St. McCain is such a global test surrendermonkey Chamberlain appeaser.
Sen. John McCain of Arizona, close to clinching the GOP nomination, called Sen. Barack Obama "naive" today and faulted the Illinois senator for waffling on an earlier commitment to abide by public financing limits.
One day after Obama scored double-digit victories in Wisconsin and Hawaii in his drive toward the Democratic presidential nomination, McCain blasted him for advocating a bombing of Al Qaeda hide-outs in Pakistan. "The best idea is not to broadcast what you’re going to do, that’s naive," said McCain, who also questioned the very notion of "bombing Pakistan without their permission."
It’s difficult to imagine just how many days of phony wingnut outrage we’d be subjected to if Obama said he needed foreign country’s permission to defend the United States.
Remember this?
"When our country’s in danger the president’s job is not to take an international poll. The president’s job is to defend America," Bush said.
Hellz yeah! said the wingnuts, then. What will they say now?
Yglesias has more.

Hi BT!
hi BT
It’s as if the two parties are chasing each other in a rightward circle…
You know how it is with the wingnuts – ”Heads I win, tails you lose!”
Evidence of early onset or complete tool of the spin doctors?
I’m already tired of listening to McCain’s war talk. I’m soooo not impressed.
No the job of the president is to uphold and support the constitution… by performing that job THEN the Prez keeps the American people safe… That is the oath that the Prez swears to….. to uphold and defend the constitution.
Permission? We don’t need no stinking permission! We’re Team America — fuck yeah!
JFK ran to the right of Nixon, but governed in a much more left manner.
So I’m struggling to get your point here: Obama is like Bush, and McCain represents real change?
Bob in HI
The “critiques” of Obama are just getting more and more bizarre. First he was hit for being a good speaker. Now McCain is upset because Obama said he wants to blow up Osama bin Laden. What’s next? He’s too smart and too good-looking to be President?
Hi, TexBetsy!
Is there something in your inbox from me, or did I forget to send it before shutting down my home computer this morning?
Bob in HI
yes. got it bob. thanks.
If this is all he’s got I’m not the least bit worried about November.
OK, we need to find that picture in poster size.
Anyone? Linky?
The choice will be between Senator Obama and McCain. What’s your decision?
OMG… Thom Hartman is playing Michelle Really Proud statement… the tape was bleeped where the word “really” was …
No, my point is the wingnuts and their accomplices in the noise machine had a several-months long fit about Kerry’s “global test” comment, but my guess is McCain will not be subjected to the same barrage.
I think someone suggested supersizing it into a billboard. Or Billoboard as it were.
Seconded.
Obama needs to go on the offensive now. Attack Attack ATTACK!
Perhaps the last seven years of hell have wised everyone up to the GOP noise machine that got chimpie elected. No one is listening to the GOP alpha dogs anymore and boy are they ticked about that. No one wants to be omega.
Exactly…he’s a “poet, not a fighter.”
Actually, to take the boxing metaphor a little further, the GOP is trying to soften Obama up with these little jabs that really aren’t amounting to much. Attacking his wife might hit some short-term paydirt, but in the long run won’t matter.
It would be nice if Obama could bury McCain by rope-a-doping him on the issues, but that’s not gonna be enough. Barry will have to go on the attack with a couple of nicely placed uppercuts and a final haymaker if he’s going to win in November. Can’t play defense all year.
5th time – why do I keep getting thrown off FDL this morning?
Mods? Techs?
There is no one qualified to replace someone that is hard right wing. It isn’t as though someone at that end of the spectrum has anywhere to go, or that there is any balance to the left/right thing. One grows up without knowing hatred until you learn language. If you choose to become more conservative, you do. But when you get out on the limb as far as the fearful, you don’t have anywhere to go except off the deep end or over the cliff.
Rational folks try not to forget what it was like when they were young and happy. They promote child welfare and they don’t like wars. You can’t even discuss this with a right wing job, as it just doesn’t make sense to them that their taxes should not come back to them in form of kickback.
once the country wakes up, things may change.
“The best idea is not to broadcast what you’re going to do, that’s naive,” said McCain, who also questioned the very notion of “bombing Pakistan without their permission.”
I guess McCain thought the whole “Axis of Evil” speech was a stupid, damaging, and pointless as I did. I wonder how he feels about all the “this shall not stand” threats against Iran. If there was ever a threatening, name-calling, needlessly-antagonizing, punch-telegraphing administration, it is the Bush Administration.
The idea is to rid the White House of the Republicans. Am I wrong on this?
Kimberly Strassel, WSJ discussing “Enlightened Conservative Principles” 707 at the Heritage Foundation on C-span. Taking questions now, from 2/15.
You do not broadcast what you are going to do. Unless you are going to bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, Iran.
-G
Enlightened Conservative Principles
cheeky concept – there’s a moxie-moron for ya
lol!
To take it further, McCain has a big, fat glass jaw.
Yesterday the local talk show host talked about McBush being a board member of this organization … IRI ….. International Republican Institute…
does anyone know if this organization actually does non partisian good or pushing Repug memes?
Has anyone heard about it?
IRI
There is this infinite wisdom;
http://campaignspot.nationalre…..E3NWI2MGQ=
Chimpy most recent poll is 19%.
Memo to the Brilliant Architect Karl Rove.
Don’t try to set your clients legacy AFTER they have hit 30% in the polls for over 3 years.
Also, don’t have your client running around talking about the virtues of helping the poor after you have made the poor a punchline for decades.
Also, your base thinks that helping African-Americans is a waste of money. They think helping Africans is a real waste of money.
-G
What about pictures of their antedeluvian summit, with the birthday cake and the guitar?
I hope Barack in one of his eloquent speeches articulates to McCain what true Naivety is. You know like staying in Iraq for a hundred years and not knowing much about the economy. Yet he wants to lead our country. That is about as naive as they come.
Actually McBush is listed as this at IRI
Board of Directors
Bush=Eternal sunshine of the thoughtless mind.
-G
McCain better start reading the papers and find out that the CIA IS conducting such attacks… the same attacks that Obama was advocating in August. Bush 2.0 should for that matter as well. This is precisely how we SHOULD be fighting the war on terror! I posted about it on my blog here but I’m glad that others are noticing the hypocrisy. When the Repubs want to bomb, go for it but when the Dems want to without Pakistan’s OK, it’s “hell no”!
Mr. Purple
Oh, right, “plagiarism.”
Ah yes, the International Republican Institute or as Mother Jones calls it “The Coup Connection”. They promote the overthrow of people we don’t like. Naomi Klein talks about them at length in “The Shock Doctrine”.
Little dolls being manipulated for maximum effect-klieg lights on-Roll ‘em.
MSNBC persists in replaying the edited version of Michelle Obama’s statement. Shame on MSNBC. Will KO give them WPITW?
MSNBC = lynch mob
I am wondering when the media and everyone will really turn on the Bush crew and start chasing after them like the creeps they are and run them out of town, instead of treating them like serious people.
I don’t think I am the original coiner of the phrase, but I sure like the sound of it. Here Goes: McCain’t
Hey BT…. another topic to explore!
When will the curtain come down and they call them for the lying phonies that they are? Will the MSM ever?
Has anyone seen the rightwing blogs upset about the fact that the media isn’t reporting just how effusively Bob Geldoff has praised George W. Bush?
I couldn’t stop laughing.
Geldoff! They are upset about the fact that some left wing singer has praised their Dear Leader and no one is listening.
Hey Geldoff, no one heard you cause we believe entertainers should ’shut up and sing’.
I also want to know how much money Mr. Lookat Me I’ Relevant is really ponying up and how much comes from future budgets.
-G
Don’t forget to Digg! Must get Right Wing Nuts into cognitive dissonance.
Yes, the GOP is incredibly obstreperous. It doesn’t matter if an idea or action is good for the American people. They just can’t let dems “know” anything or get any credit for it. No success is better than Dem success.
If this sounds wrong, it is! ;)
Here is the Mojo article, “The Coup Connection”
It can’t be that far away.

OT, and double epu’d:
Watson: I lost my mind
from Texas Politics by chron.com, MySA.com
http://feeds.chron.com/~r/hous…..ost_m.html
State Sen. Kirk Watson, D-Austin, has come up with a list of Barack Obama accomplishments and the knowledge that Chris Matthews is “as ferocious as they say.” Here’s his statement about his appearance on Matthews’ show, entitled “MSNBC and Me”:…
I would hope obaman has staff reading the lake because they couldn’t get a better source for information, advice, and the pusle of americans
anyway, I keep saying this;
each and every time mccain says something slanderous or even insinuates obama wouldn’t protect this nation FAR better the this administration, obaman must DEMAND equal time, and PUNSISH mccain for the REDICULOUS claims the man makes
we need to embarrass the crap out of this man any time he assiciates himself with the “strategy” of the most moronic “comander in chief” in american history
But guys. From outside America threatening to bomb Pakistan, and maybe getting OBL, (you missed him in Afghanistan remember), and perhaps getting several small Pakistani kids instead, looks like the old US policy of kicking the world around, whoever is doing it. I hate so much to say this, but I agree with McCain, it’s naive, and I wish Obama wouldn’t say it.
OT: Obama Dallas speech finished. It was primarily the same speech as in Houston last night, but with a few additions. One part I liked, he said Bush would be coming back to us in Texas and then he listed all the Bush domestic and foreign horrors and said those would be gone. At another point, he said he had taught the Constitution, he knew the Constitution, he believed in the Constitution, and he would follow the Constitution.
Just listened to that Thom Hartmann bit, it was you that mentioned it?
My Reaction would not pass the mods. It is going to get very insane-the desperation of drowning rats all the way live for all to see who care to look.
I heard some retired US ambassador or other saying very IRI-like things on our radio in the UK about what the US should do on post Fidel Cuba
That FAUX edited the tape of Michelle by cutting out the word “really” and all the other news feeds picking up THEIR vid vs someone else. A caller played the CNN piece and it was complete without the cut out word.
THAT is the outrage…. I suspect the BO campaign watched the video and was not aware that FAUX noise punked them…..
This behavior is beyond the pale. But it really does serve to emphasize just exactly where things stand in this Country…
Geeze, I left 4 hours ago and we were talking about this. You hit the nail on the head katymine. I am amazed at how many here on FDL got all bent out fo shape about what she said. . .
This is what makes me crazy….. the question that the Repugs never want to even look at……”WHY do they hate us?” is the total premise of IRI…..
And who is leading the parade? MCBush….. Chairman of IRI
Permission Bush paid Pakistan how much money?
Pakistan claims they can’t go after Ossama because they don’t control or are afraid to send troops down there after him. If Pakistan does not control the land where Ossama is at then its not their land to object to if we invade.
So many Americans have never been outside of the borders of America… not that provides a big bright light but seeing our country through the eyes of another country and their culture can put things in perspective.
As I have said in previous comments…… I love my country but there are times and events that do not make me proud. Love and pride are two very different emotions and I know the difference. My snarky retort to the wingnuts is …”don’t you?”
Hi BT, everyone.
I’m not pro war but Ossama is different I see no reason to have troops in the mddle east except to get Ossama.
Word is we’ve been sending unarmed drones into Pakistan’s frontier for a while now.
Flaky McCain has to keep up with current events.
ABC News’ Jennifer Parker and Eloise Harper Report: Sen. Hillary Clinton took a swipe at her daughter’s profession today at an economic roundtable discussion at a restaurant in Parma, Ohio, suggesting wealthy investment bankers and hedge fund managers on Wall Street aren’t doing real ‘work.’
The former first lady’s daughter, Chelsea Clinton, works for New York-based hedge fund Avenue Capital Group. She previously worked in New York for McKinsey & Company, her first job after graduating with her master’s degree from Oxford University.
“We also have to reward work more,” Clinton told a small group of Ohio residents today. “and by that, I mean, I have people in New York working on Wall Street as investment managers, as hedge fund executives. Under the tax code, they can pay a lower percentage of their income in taxes on $50 million dollars, than a teacher, or a nurse, or a truck driver in Parma pays on $50,000. That’s very discouraging to people.”
Provided that General Shinseki approves the plan to get Ossama I am not trusting any of the surrender monkeys in the Pentagon who surrendered to Bush’s plans for war without resigning.
I want Eric back as head of the joint Chiefs!
She can diss her but she can’t pimp her!
Yea, total bullshit propaganda, and then we can take real comfort in tweety and the cut of KO’s response…..and stayed tuned more comedy at 6:00
ThingsComeUndone@67
Don’t disagree on OBL, but please consult the sovereign state first if possible. Pakistan may in any event see things very differently now. One of the interesting things about their election is the crazies lost in Swat to a secular party.
I’m not pro war but Ossama is different I see no reason to have troops in the mddle east except to get Ossama.
How many times you expect the guy to die?
Hey if he’s dead then all the troops go home.
You think she meant any of that?
Another hour, another bunch of MShillNBCers pushing the “should Michelle Obama clarify her comment….”
Here’s a thought. Maybe the MSNBCjerks should consider clarifying why they are persisting in pushing an edited version of what Michelle Obama said.
Shame on MSNBC.
If anyone knew where to drop the bomb that takes Bin Laden out- it would have been dropped by now. Obama tryin to get his bombing card punched and McBush tellin him “Ya ain’t there yet son”.
Politics as usual.
I agree the new Pakistani government might play ball Bennie before she died said something about a joint U.S, Pakistani raid on Ossama which is more than the General ever suggested…despite the money we gave him.
There are still the administrative details of Hillary and the Huckster- but it appears that the general election has begun.
personally I think she’ll say anything if she thinks it’ll help her get elected.
Hey if he’s dead then all the troops go home.
Unless there’s someone, somewhere, personal or corporate, who has no vested interest in seeing the end of perpetual war.
In that case, it would not be to his/its interest in making that fact known, would it?
Hillary and Huckabee, Unity 08!
Eat your heart out Bloomberg.
-G
Then we go home now! I’m cool with that!
Ding, they him had at …
Oh thank the goddess, I’m not the only one.
Been having the same problem.
We are not alone.
But, we’re also not the ones with 19% approval — I’m sure you’re is Much higher. And, we’re not spewing naughty language/hate-heart language, so, I guess we’re doing okay. All we have to do is re-boot, refresh, and we don’t have to keep looking over our shoulders, right?
when the Clintons were trying to get the Senate seat in New York against Lazio, they swore up and down that she would NEVER run for President. If she does not get within 50 elected delegates of Obama by the end of the primaries, which seems nigh impossible at this point, what will she promise to do at that juncture?
Obama doesn’t need to fight McCain. Obama is riding a spectrum-wide surge based on the desire for a new political (as opposed to ideological) landscape. Obama beat Hillary by refusing to get into the gutter with her. McCain will self-destruct in similar fashion, particularly in debates. McCain, like Bob Dole, doesn’t have enough sense left to be taken seriously. Already he’s exposed himself badly by waffling on torture.
The only thing to fear is Hillary winning the nomination because Obama supporters (who fill arenas rather than high school gyms) have bonded with their candidate. For Hillary to win the nomination and get elected, she needs to convince a majority of Obama supporters that they made a mistake and that she saved the day. Experience and electability aren’t enough now. She has to convince people who already voted for Obama to switch.
