I know people have been all over Texas senator Kirk Watson's appearance on Hardball, and his inability to say name a single legislative accomplishment of Barack Obama. But really, could it be any worse than Clinton surrogate Lanny Davis?
(Unofficial) Clinton flack Lanny Davis just explained on Fox News that Barack Obama is like Ned Lamont (who, whatever you think of him, won that Democratic Senate primary), and Hillary Clinton is like Joe Lieberman (who, whatever you think of him, refused to abide by the primary result, ran and won as an independent with massive GOP support, and has subsequently endorsed John McCain). Lest anyone miss his meaning, Davis noted that he had been a devout Lieberman booster.
Will Clinton run as a Republican-friendly independent if she fails to get the nomination? Of course not. But that's the scenario Davis has gone out of his way to sketch metaphorically. That's the way to help Clinton get the Democratic nomination.
Watson was just not properly prepared. Lanny's obviously hit a speed bump in the space-time continuum.
I mean, did anybody but Joe Lieberman think this would be helpful?

Hi Jane!
Renee - left a comment for you at the bottom of the last thread.
PushTruth.com is a website that lets anyone create campaigns, and submit articles about issues they care about (FISA, big brother policies, constitutional rights, etc). Money generated from ads on the site pays for the highest voted campaigns to be turned into TV commercials or billboards ! The most a person has to do to affect the US now, is visit a website ! The people have a voice now!

lanny davis DEKE initiate still burning from the cigarette burn he got 50 years ago from bushee while at Yale.
Gotta admit, I was a bit surprised to see an article on the importance of govt on a financial page: http://finance.yahoo.com/exper.....3cGIm7YWsA
…and this just in from Atrios:
Holy Crap!
“February 20, 2008
Concerns over Economy Push
George W. Bush’s Overall Job Approval to New Low
George W. Bush’s overall job approval rating has dropped to a new low in American Research Group polling as 78% of Americans say that the national economy is getting worse according to the latest survey from the American Research Group.
Among all Americans, 19% approve of the way Bush is handling his job as president and 77% disapprove. When it comes to Bush’s handling of the economy, 14% approve and 79% disapprove.”
Ponies all ’round!
based on the burgeoning Obama-wave, I’m trying to visualize how Hillary will eventually find a way to gracefully bow out. doesn’t seem to be the Clinton family style.
Lanny Davis, Fox Democrat.
I took the liberty of editing
Exactly!! Are Lanny Davis and Mark Penn golfing buddies? Then again, at least Lanny Davis isn’t giving Bob Shrum a good name.
ARG had Hillary up 10% the day before Iowa. They had Obama up 13% the day before NH. They were the only company to have Hillary up the day before WI, by 13%! I’m thinking this company needs to be ignored and put out of business.
Mr. Davis achieved a loonier eclipse
”The Barack show is playing to rave reviews sold out at college campuses after college campus. Standing room only crowds to hear his silver-tounged orations. Hope, change, yes we can? Give me a break! I’ve got news for all the latte-drinking, Prius-driving, Birkenstock-wearing, trust fund babies crowding in to hear him speak. This guy won’t last a round against the Republican attack machine. He’s a poet, not a fighter.”

I want to point out again something we discovered yesterday that makes no sense what so ever
lieberman is going to preside over a pro forma sessin while congress is not around
lieberman is a cheney puppet and it is nothing short of bizarre we are allowing that to happen
can we say “wolf watching the hen house?”
the closer they become to loosing their seat to power, the more brazen they become and if you don’t think either cheney or libermans is above pulling something on this day, then you have not been watching
if there is a vote that cheney wants, he’s going to get it while lieberman presides
Moonlighting as a reporter?
I admire Hillary Clinton and feel somewhat badly that I’ve decided to vote for Obama in the March 4 primary. But the advisors and representatives the Clinton campaign has put forward, and the strategy, or lack of it with which they have conducted the campaign, are major reasons for my decision.
Sounds like a hint of blackmail to me is Hilary angling for the VP slot by threating to go independent like Holy Joe did if she does not win?
link to lieberman presiding over pro forma session
This is precisely the kind of stuff that pisses me off about the Clinton campaign.
Chris Matthews thugging vidclip on MSNBC again:
Can you name anything he’s accomplished as a Congressman….
oooh, ooooh, boogga booga, embarrassing moment says MShillNBC talking head right now. KO smackdown of Chris not in evidence. Surprise. Surprise.
Shame on Chris Matthews. Again.
This inventor wasn’t so dim…The Gravity Lamp.
Kos sticks a fork in it:
Can Holy Joe pass any laws or do anything while he is in charge?
There’s a stroke of brilliance, comparing your candidate to one of the most hated political figures behind Bush and Cheney.
That ought to get the attention of a few DFH’s.
Looking stupid is pretty much what Texas state senators do. And stunned silence is usually the LEAST ridiculous reaction you get from them.
why wouldn’t he be able to introduce law and have it voted?
why not?
especially since “the president of the senate” will be available
Think I am going to start a “book” on how long it will take for divorce proceedings after her loss.
Seems as though Clinton is finding herself in the midst of a campaign run by saboteurs…
Can Holy Joe pass any laws or do anything while he is in charge?
I’m wondering if he can manage to hit the desk with the gavel…
Listening to both Hillary Clinton and John McCain admit that Obama is a powerful eloquent speaker, and then downgrade the importance of that ability suddenly reminded me of the F. Murray Abraham role in Amadeus. No matter how hard they work or try, they just were not blessed with the gift.
kos is premature of course
I don’t think hillary is out of it yet and she surely has some fight left in her, don’t forget there’s still some jokey for appointments left and if she doesn’t want to be vice president (I hope she doesn’t), she does want to be somewhere…probably secretary of state
would she look good in boots?
The Clintons just played the race card again. This time in Ohio with “Tom Buffenbarger” (sp, Tom I hope I got your name spelled right). Tom now claims that Obama is no Muhammed Ali since Obama, according to Tom, has a history of running from the ring. So we have the Clintons, playing the drug card in NH with Sheehan, the Jesse Jackson card in South Carolina by “Bill”, the Afro American Card in Pennsylvania by “ed” Rendell and now the Muhammed Ali card in Ohio.
The only remaining question as to the Clintons is what will the Clintons do when Obama ends up with a plurality of elected delegates before the DNC.
The only remaining question for Obama is what will he do about the Clintons when he is leading with a plurality of elected delegates going into the DNC.
Obama is not like McGovern who never had a poll lead nationally over Nixon and Obama is a whole not more savvy than Lamont.
Saw it, thanks. I’ve heard Daniel Tammet speak, and even transcribed part of an interview he did a while back.
Need to get ready to teach tonight’s class, but here’s some backstory about the challenges we’ve faced with our son’s school.
I believe this would apply…but if enough Pukes showed up..hmmmmm:
When quorum is not met, a legislative body cannot hold a vote, and cannot change the status quo. Therefore, voters who are in favor of the status quo are able to use an obstructive strategy called, in the United States, quorum-busting. If a significant number of voters choose not to be present for the vote, the vote will fail due to lack of quorum, and the status quo will remain.
A quorum in a legislative body is normally a majority of the entire membership of the body. If there are vacancies, that fact is not considered. Thus, a quorum of a legislative body that has 100 seats would be 51 (more than half of 100), even if some seats are vacant. However, it is also common in a legislative body to have a rule that the lack of a quorum does not affect the proceedings unless a point of order is raised.

Some people say . . . Lanny Davis is just out to get Alan Colmes’ job at Fox.
New Hampshire was different there you had the Tweety effect going with all the MSM showing video of her crying and Tweety Preening. That is what swung the independents.
Although the MSM has tried to blame the polling companies for the mistake rather than admit that they gave Hilary New Hampshire because the voters there thought the media was unfair.
I agree with New Hampshire on this.
But otherwise I agree with you the polling companies are slanting this race after all how come nobody is polling if America thinks George Bush should be impeached.
By controling the questions asked they control what the MSM talks about.
Senator Clinton. Her best positioning.
I agree with kos, already said it’s time to stand aside at my place earlier.
So do we frame the continued MSNBC pushing of Chris Mattshrew’s bullying this morning as evidence KO doesn’t have as much juice as we think he does?
Do you really think Hillary is angling for V.P, Sec. of State, etc.? I just don’t see her accepting anything less than the big prize. Why not just stay in the Senate and actually be a leader?
My attitude is that the Clintons care about one thing. Winning. And they are not above doing lousy logic in the process. This sort of Lanny Davis thing makes me angry. In a bit over an hour I will be eating lunch with my lady in the school cafeteria. She will calm me down. She is my rudder in rough seas.
I wonder…did they review his remarks prior to him speaking?
I swear, HRC’s own campaign is trying to take her down. It’s too late to fire them all.
Great Bush will appoint everyone when Holy Joe is incharge.
Lanny’s comparison of Hillary to Lieberman was embarrassing for Clinton, but her supporters have been hard pressed to find traction throughout her campaign. Desperation has clearly set in when they start comparing her to Walter Mondale, a candidate so stodgy and dour that he made
El CidRonald Reagan look young and vibrant. What are the odds that Hillary will drop a hopelessly dated “Where’s the beef” reference (with proper attribution, of course) on Obama at the next debate? Obama could capture Hillary’s final base, seniors, by responding with “there you go again.”I need to go to work but I have to say, we really have to find out if lieberman can pull a fast one and get some laws voted in while he presides over pro forma session
what would prevent someone from proposing law, joe recognizing and asking for a vote?
the republicans would show up in masse of course
anyway, I will read what can prevent that later, I have to go to work but if there is nothing to prevent it then we have to be out of our minds allowing lieberman to preside
That poor guy was a Dem state Senator from Texas. He isnt in Washington at all. He should have been told what would be asked. Tubbs Jones is an avid Hillary supporter.Does she work on the HRC campaign?
Matthews is a jerk
One of the problems of appointing her to anything in the new administration is her dic* head husband.
Top of the afternoon to you, Jane…
(am assuming you’re on the East Coast today, ‘coz ya never know, right?)
Can I just say as a reader of many, many blogs I have been unable to decide or determine where the majority of front-pagers here come out on the primaries. It has been very even-handed to the point of making me nuts.
That is a huge compliment.
I think it would be more productive to follow Redshift’s advise (#153 in the “Wanker National Park” post) and go to this post in Obsidian Wings, read the post, then make a list of his accomplishments and the priorities he’s worked hard to make into legislation to come up with an adequate answer for the naysayers. This is about Obama’s qualifications, not Hillary’s, and certainly not Lanny Davis’. Lanny is an idiot; that’s nearly certifiable. Not worth the effort to talk about. But this will not be the last time you’ll hear questions about Obama’s experience and qualifications. You need to be able to point to something solid. Since there appears to be something solid to point to, we need to know them and be able to name them.
Lanny Davis is a supporter of Hillary Clinton, not part of her campaign.
See the rude pundit’s bit on Hillary channelling Mark Penn. the rude one provide’s an excerpt from a Penn book and juxtaposes it with a sour grapes remark from Hillary. Very telling. Hillary made some very poor choices when choosing her campaign advisors and strategy.
Damn Jane, a word from my childhood, so descriptive, so appropriate, It diplomatically replaces what my words would be.
jayt February 20th, 2008 at 8:58 am@30
The operative word via Perris-what is he going to hit it for.
Is it three strikes and yer out.
Watching the Lanny Laff-in clip, I got in the mood for some Italian…perhaps TortaLanny Afraid-oh?:
Next comes the scramble for positioning in the Obama political universe.
A whole lot of people made wrong bets on this one on the Democratic side (Carville, Begala, Donna Blue Hair, etc.) and now will be scrambling out the side door before all the choice seats are taken on the Good Ship Obama.
Bill has not, it is felt, been a help to his wife’s campaign. Fact of the matter is… last night Lahoma brought up the idea of spousal sabotage to me. If it was anybody but her (Lahoma), I would have written it off.
Is this the guy who said Obama “wouldn’t last a round” against the Republicans? Clinton won’t last many more against Obama. I’ll take Muhammad Ali against Clinton’s big, dumb slow Sonny Liston any day.
Hillary could carve out a place in history by playing LBJ to Obama’s JFK, not as his VP, but as Senate Majority Leader. Reid and Pelosi are jokes who got their jobs when they were vanity prizes for no-hopers who were willing to provide shrill opposition because that’s all the minority could do.
It’s time for Democrats in Congress to choose leaders who can take charge. It’s time for Hillary and other senior Democrats to come out of hiding and run for the leadership so they can help Obama bring about change rather than hiding behind tired, partisan excuses for maintaining the status quo.
Obama does not have an impressive legislative career in the U.S. Senate. It hasn’t been long enough. John Kennedy and Abraham Lincoln also had unimpressive legislative careers and were thought to be somewhat shallow but with speaking ability. They both beat opponents with extensive legislative records.
Chris Matthews did not ask Tubbs Jones to name any legislation Hillary had authored. She only named areas, like medical care for children, and claimed Hillary had been a leader. Matthews apparently accepted her word for it.
the clintons are tough. they are losing and cant find their message other than I am ready, he is not.
she is doing what you would expect of a candidate who wants to win. I think the failure is perhaps a bigger symbol of why she wont be able to do in the WH what she says is her strength, and that is get results.
What better proof is there than that?
Sure she will take the job after all VP means next in line for the presidency if anything happens to Obama.
Which if it does we are soo going to take out every right wing hate monger off the TV, Radio and the Net.
Germany has some nice laws about Hate speech that we can enact.
That’s who Hillary Clinton is. She needs to fire herself.
This is the person that is supposed to be ready on “day one” to do the business of the presidency. Her campaign is in chaos at the moment unable to deal with a slate of losses. She was supposed to be anointed, the rules were changed to help her, everything was in place and the damn voters got in the way. Looks like she was ready on day one to govern but without the people
This is much ado about nothing. Lanny Davis is an idiot. He always has been. He’s the kind of tame Democrat that cable news loves to have on to show how balanced they are. Clinton’s campaign will continue to implode nicely with or without him.
I remain hopeful that the Clinton wing of the Democratic party will be effectively marginalized by Obama. It would be great to send the Clintons to Burma as joint ambassadors where they can try their hand at doing “good” which they proclaim to be good at. Then the Clintons resign their seat in New York and work part time for a hedge fund. Seriously, I really hope that Obama can finesse the Clintons post convention. No way does our party want the Clintons on the national ticket.
I agree. As much as I respect the Clintons, I think it best to try to delive a coup d’ grace as soon as possible. I think of it as tough love.
Are you saying Mr. Davis has no say in the HRC campaign? Say as an unpaid and perhaps informal advisor, or something akin to that. ;0)
“Tubbs Jones is an avid Hillary supporter.Does she work on the HRC campaign?“
Yes she does. I think she may even be her Ohio chair or co-chair.
Pols like the Clintons are by no means “all bad”. They do want to do some good things, unlike the R’s, but they are so in bed with special interests and the whole beltway mind set that they sound like snake oil salesmen.
This is almost inevitable because of the way beltway politics work. A few don’t bend to the corrupting influences.
Which is yet another reason why term limits makes sense, it mitigates against the inevitable inside the beltway corruption. You don’t get the bush or clinton dynasties. You do have to give up on the Ted Kennedy’s and Nadlers, but I think the trade off would benefit our democracy.
First my definition of a dim bulb is:
1) Anyone who hopes make a case for the Clinton by using the Leiberman was Obama’s mentor song. Leiberman hasn’t been Democratic party relevant for years in fact. I still see that once in a while in support of Clinton. You don’t see Clinton saying Obama was a Leiberman protoge in her campaign, and I guarandamntee you that won’t be one of McBush’s talking points–he of the O’Leiberman on the stage with him all over the place.
2) On that segment, there were 3 dim bulbs: Tweety, Tubbs Jones, and Kirk Watson.
None of them could snatch legislative history for Obama and Clinton off the top of their heads and it’s not like they do neurosurgery for a living–they’re politicians and a political hack for MSNBC.
Tubbs Jones could have recalled: As to experience in the senate that’s a non-issue. One has 7 years and one has 4 years.
Clinton is remembered for her Iraq Authorization, her dumb vote on Kyle/Lieberman, her vote against the Levin amendment and explanation that Karl Levin himself said was evidence she didn’t have basic knowledge of how to read the amendment.
Further, Clinton voted with one of her mentors, Hooker Vitter from Louisiana, who voted to table the earmark transparency component of Obama’s legislation for ethics reform.
Tubbs Jones of course was as dim as Kirk Watson and of course tweety–three equally dim bulbs.Ever think that Tweety makes a lot of money for being a dim bulb, complementing everyone on being a fantastic guest most of the time even when they are as dim as he is?
As for Lanny Davis’ analogy, I guess he’s one of the Democratic lawyers who rails about Bushco breaking a panoply of rules, but is chomping at the bit to break rules to coop Michigan, Florida, and delegates Super and pledged for Clinton–none of which is going to get a foot off the ground.
Wanna see more confusion than Grand Central when all the trains run off the tracks at once–try being a fly on the wall in meetings with Maggie Williams, Mandie Gruenwald, Mark Penn, Howard Wolfson, his Billness, her Hillyness aka Billiary 2 for one this morning as to whether to go negative or where the hell we go from here.
Jane put up the stats last night adapted from Chuck Todd, NBC Political Director–that’s the grim reality Hillary faces and those get exponentially worse if Obama wins more states than that conservative estimate is based on:
From Jane’s post last night:
Hey man. Glad to see you. You seemed to have disappeared. I was asking about you the other day…Christy said not to worry, that people disappear and then come back from time to time…
Who introduced the Patriot Act in congress?
I’ve read and I’ve heard on teevee as late as the morning that HRC may throw “something” out there in a last ditch effort to stop Obama, but I believe that is probably her campaign attempting to seed doubt. I don’t think they have anything.
See my 37. *g*
Hugh, good to see you — I’ve been looking at your BushCo list lately, wondering whether the fullness of their contempt for the courts might be of some use in getting past the issue of standing with regard to warrantless wiretapping. (Can you say “pattern of misconduct”? Sure you can . . .) Let me just say it once again: your work in pulling that list together, and keeping it up to date, is much appreciated.
I dislike cliches. But I am of the opinion that Lanny Davis is a stinkpot.
President Obama. We see you!
So an unknown state Senator and a Hillary operative are a fair match? I just feel sorry for the guy, Remembering how Keith said how difficult it is to get the guests.
http://www.delegatehub.com/
New Clinton site explaining how she sees it.
I just hate to see defeat drug from the jaws of victory.
Moral Monster McCain
I’ve been getting a “passive aggressive” feeling about Bill myself. Your lady is wise.
Heads up. Polynomial equations has just gotten in the way of politics. Later…
Reports and stats have it that most Edwards supporters voted for Obama in WI and elsewhere yesterday. Therefore in the last thread I declared fo Obama…
Go Obama!
But of course FDL as an entity remains neutral until General. That’s correct, right Jane? (if you’re here.)
I agree. He’s been disloyal before.
LOL how come Tubbs Jones looked like a robot who could only spout “solutions to problems” from the talking points email that went out from Penn and Wolfson?
Tubbs Jones had as much of a grip on the legislative history of the two candidates as a seminar with Britney, Paris, and Nicole would.
You have hit on something there. She thought her campaign would be a coronation. She lined up all the important people, all the institutional Democratic power brokers. About all she forgot about were the voters. In an election where the central and obvious message was “It’s the change, stupid,” she chose to run on experience. For a politician, she has a remarkable tin ear. I have no sympathy for her at all. She had all the advantages and threw them away. She has a nasty habit of making mistakes and worse persisting in them. She did it with Iraq and now her campaign.
I just got polled in Texas.
I said Obama and Noriega.
That was the reason I had to let the polynomial equations go in the 10th grade.
The Patriot Act’s sponsors, House Judiciary chairman James Sensenbrenner (R-Wisconsin) and Rep. John Conyers (D-Michigan)
I dont support the HRC bashing. I think she would be a fine senate leader, but what do I know about her ability to master those rules. It seems she plays very well though with intricate detailing but not so well with salesmanship on a grander scale.
The Gooper machine. You just gotta be ready for it and be nimble.
Michelle Obama is magnificent. Did she say something out of some 20,000 words that night that the wurlitzer could seize on? sure?
was it a miscue–I think so.
But then, you have to know they have the video gnats out and are looking for a Macaca moment.
I would take Michelle over the very scary looking McCain spouse. that is some cruella de ville in that woman.
But you cant wurlitzer an impression.
The Clintons have already setup a 527 to run attack ads in OH. They also just today launched a Web site to explain the “facts” behind the delegate situation, and to argue for including MI and FL as is, which is laughable to me. I REALLY hope they don’t go out slashing and burning.

Wow, Just Wow.
Sometimes I don’t understand the Lake at all.
Sometimes there are civil, intelligent debates about important issues, and then, other times I get here and read stuff that just doesn’t really matter.
On one post, there’s a mod flagging everyone down, if they cross their eyes in the wrong (read, unpc du jour) manner…
And, then on another post, people are smacking with the worst of them.
Maybe there could be a thermometer up top that let’s me know whether we’re being nice and smart,

See, I can rant with the best o’ them.

If Hillary quit for the sake of the party, she would forever be a heroine.
LOL!!!
Are you implying that FDL might be off the rails? (*g* and /snark)
I think I just decoded this. Hillary is like Joe Lieberman in that she cares too much about winning to play by the rules.
And Conyers never read it-fire sale-democracy cheap.
Nice to be back. Thanks for the concern. I had something in my family to deal with.
I agree with that if she doesn’t win Texas and Ohio by a large margin. But I am actually starting to dread the long gulf between then and the Democratic convention. It’s a long time to keep up any Obama momentum.
Off the rails?
Is that what happens right before a train wreck?
Hilary is fine. she just wants to win. she is behind. she is scared and really wants it.
she aint Joe Lieberman and never will be.
you wont ever see her fronting for the Goopers.
this is really getting ugly.
Evidently MSNBC plans to shill that Matthews spot all day.
Puke on them.
I’m getting this creepy feeling that this is gonna get real ugly real fast.
As you state, fighting for Fla. & Mi. is beyond desperate, it’s ridiculous.
I would hope HRC’s campaign would stay on the higher road and not take a “scorched earth” path towards trying to get the nomination. After all, their legacy and future earning power is at stake.
Oooo…Howard Dean’s sharpening his claws. Just saw this on the DNC’s frontpage:
“McCain Wins Nomination: Fights for a Third Bush Term.”
http://www.democrats.org/
Between the DNC and Cliff Schechter, we’ll have to to pick up the slack on taking down McCan’t while Hillary stays in this thing.

I hope everything is alright,
or at least dealable.
Life does have its issues.
But, sending best wishes to you, hugh.

The Clinton campaign is a boat full of party hacks that are steaming mad that they are not getting back into power. I think HRCs biggest problem besides a myopic, sluggish campaign was the stench of greed and ambition was palpable even at a casual glance. They were so cocksure and triangulating towards the general election, they forgot to win the runup.
This will be a book lesson in how to lose a won election
Jeez, you are really hitting on all cylinders today, from my point of view. Everything you’ve said today perfectly states my point of view. Both Clinton’s are fighters. Bill managed to bring down Newt Gingrich, Bob Livingston, Louch Faircloth, and about half of the House Mangers during impeachment and after. I think she cares enough about the Democratic Party and the country to do the right thing. If her desire to win overcomes, I hope that Al Gore, John Edwards, and other potent super delegates with bring about a healing conclusion.
Oooo…Howard Dean’s sharpening his claws
geez - I love Howard Dean.
V.P. Candidate for Obama?
