Why has the media lost its way? The easy answer is that it makes them money. But why would the real news not make them money? Is the truth boring and no one would pay attention?

this is becaues of reagans repeal of the fairness doctrine, clinton’s refusal to reinstate it, and then republican rule relaxing rules that limit the amount of media a single entity can own

we used to have 40 or 50 owners of mainstream media, now it’s down to about 5

they will promote their egenda, they will sensationalize any story that helps them get law they want, they will refuse to report a story that will add regulation that might cut into profit

it’s consolidation of the fourth estate

But teevee is still the thing citizens turn on to get most of their world view.

Even THIS blog reports what is on the sunday bobblehead shows as if we need to tune in to cokie and noron and whomever they pass off as an expert.

I gave up on the MSM and dip into the guys like Rich or Krugman or Rick Hertzberg via online. I avoid teevee at all cost and watch only nature and arts shows. Keith? Sometimes, but 10 minutes of something good on Keith is a drop in the ocean. Moyers is another drop.

If you want to understand the world, don’t waste your time in MSM. It’s that simple.

So the media is now owned by those who have an agenda. I suspect it is a free market corporate right leaning agenda. It is about consumerism, buy now, pay latter, america is better and we are entitled to the high (sloppy) standards of living, that ware is a means to effect this because we have special interests offshore. The owners of the media are promoting their classist and racist agenda, with or without nuance.

Exactly, except get rid of the word “now”. Per the Wikipedia entry on W. R. Hearst:

It’s hard to believe that adults believe that shooting missiles and knocking out satellites is any way to conduct international affairs. Or is it all to just keep the spigot open to the MIC?
