. Looking like it could be another blowout tonight in Wisconsin. Obama holds an 8% lead in the polling average, Gallup says Obama has taken the lead over Clinton with women, Hispanics and Democrats, and the Clinton campaign seems to be in a bit of disarray.
. Obama’s projections have him up 52% to 47% in Hawaii, per Ben Smith.
. Congratulations to TPM for winning the George Polk Award for legal reporting on the US Attorney scandal.
. Big Tent Democrat goes after Howard Fineman for flying the misogyny flag high. Do people simply have no clue how this stuff sounds?
. John Edwards…not endorsing any time soon.
. Here’s today’s schedule:
- Wisconsin: 74 Democratic and 37 Republican delegates; Polls close at 9 pm ET
- Hawaii: 20 Democratic delegates; Caucuses end 12:30 am ET (Wednesday morning)
- Washington: 19 Republican delegates; Polls close at 11 pm ET
. Jerome Armstrong offers his theory on why Republicans root for Obama. And yes, now that he’s received the coveted Althouse endorsement, the "Why Obama Lost Me" post is imminent.

Hiya Jane!
Hiya jayt.
Hey Jane
Interesting.
I think I will let the Hawaii votes comein without my virtual oversight so I can catch up on sleep.
funny – I was just considering a nap…
“FINEMAN: . . . [T]he problem that Hillary‘s got is in certain ways her whole candidacy is an act of ventriloquism from her husband. Or at least, some people view it that way. And Hillary isn‘t always known as the most authentic candidate that you‘ve ever seen that come down the pike, very calculating, very scripted and so forth.”
Interesting how immediately after Howard Fineman states his true feelings in an outburst of candor, he realizes his imprudence and tries to attribute his view to “some people”…
Yeah I think we’ll let the West Coast contingent catch that one.
Obama seems close to putting this thing away- wouldn’t mind seeing him take a few more punches first just to make sure he CAN.
Since they are 6 hours ahead of the East Coast we can get em at sunrise.
Don’t figure the pukes will be doing that?
well, he says “yes we can”…
When Obama wins- it will be partly as a result of the media who HATE Hillary- so his victory should have an asterisk (* windbag aided).
No, Jane, they don’t have a clue. Hate to break this to ya, but you are not part of their discourse community and their audience. It is, as you know, the boys club. They are speaking to each other; they could care less what any one else thinks and will only stop until forced.
Five hours behind in winter – six hours behind in summer (daylight savings time – Hawaii does not recognize daylight savings time) – It is 10:12AM Hawaii time right now.
Something I’ve been wondering about – are the poll numbers off because Obama’s supporters are on average younger and more likely to have cell phones only? Are they polling cell phone users?
I like Obama more and more but some of his supporters are way too anti-Hillary. Some of them sound positively Republican. Very sad.
Here’s a comment I read this morning at Capitol Times:
Those of us with teenagers got a hilarious reminder of the Clinton scandals of the 1990s last weekend while watching the new movie, ‘Definitely, Maybe.’ It takes Bill Clinton apart in a way that John McCain and the Republicans only wish they could. It is a must see for all those who want to inoculate their teenagers from the impact of future ‘Bimbo’ irruptions, fits of lying and other attractions sure to come our way with another Clinton presidency. Clean slate!!! Barack Obama, ‘08 !!!
Truly sick.
OH Yeah- but by THEN it will be too late.
Hi Jane! My freshly minted RN son and baby in the family just reported from Wausau,WI voting turnout there is large despite horrid weather of continued freezing and snowpack. He is a wildly enthusiastic Obama volunteer.
Jeez, Raven you have been SO on it today. *g* Are you suggesting that Jane and I need to set our alarms early so we can but up (and awake enough) to see the numbers come up on the monitor minute by minute. OK, Well, if Jane agrees to it, I guess I will too.
It’s nice to be backing a winner. For a change. The view here is that we are looking at the next president of the United States.
I think (hope?) that Edwards is waiting for a time closer to March 4th to endorse Obama. That would give Barack a boost going into a day that has the potential of wrapping it up. It seemed in the last few debates that included Edwards that he and Obama were almost coordinated. It would be a shocker if Edwards endorsed Clinton, especially now that many of the big unions are going to Obama.
At the moment, Obama has plenty of momentum on his own, so might as well save the Edwards headlines for right before the really big fight on March 4th. JMHO.
oh fer chrissakes – I’m agreeing with Ann Althouse?
(well maybe it’s just for now – but – how embarassin’)
I think in the new America we/they are weighing votes based on the weight of the voters. But, it is a new art to estimate that in the winter when people are wearing heavy jackets outside, so that is why they are way off.
Here in Racine, Wisconsin, I’m hearing an awful lot of Republicans saying they’re crossing over to vote for Hillary Clinton. See the exit poll video here: http://www.journaltimes.com/local_news/
Here’s a typical GOP blogger: http://realdebatewisconsin.blo…..llary.html
At 12:30, I was #284, which seems like very strong turnout.
One way to view this is that it’s a referendum on Iraq.
Ha! I’m not suggesting anything but, having an old door gunner buddy on the big island that sometimes “forgets” the time difference and calls me to ask what size flip-flops I wear, I am quite aware of it!
Not only that, I saw Dan Grrrrrstein from Traitor Joe’s CT campaign is supporting Obama as well.
The Clintons claims that Barack plagiarized material from the Mass Governor in Barack’s speeches are frivolous. It is axiomatic and hornbook law that in order to plead a legally sufficient claim for plagiarism, under New York law, that the copying must be UNAUTHORIZED. See Malkin v. Dubinsky, 203 NYS2d 501 (Sup. Ct. 1960). Since Barack had authority to use the subject material, no plagiarism.
The Clintons would apply plagiarism like college students might. You better quote your material. But that sophomoric approach ignores that most college students guilty of plagiarism would copy from the text of a book without authority. Not the case here. Does anybody reasonably want these folks running our country again?
The charge of plagiarism against Barack by the Clintons is baseless and irresponsible. It is McCarthyism, so it seems. “Plagiarist” It has a ring, doesn’t it?
The thing that strikes me about your comment is that the younger generation has been raised on a very different Corporate News than you or I have. I don’t want to excuse the behavior. But i think Modern news consumption is a factor to consider.
Grrrrr
steinsquared….Jeez, and last I looked (in August) most flip flops cover about 10 shoe sizes. But maybe if s/he will do a house/apartment trade with you a couple of times a year it will all balance out.
My bad
Have y’all seen Alice Walker’s endorsement?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..ack-obama/
Those Wisconsin (+8%) and Hawaii (+5%) numbers don’t look like much of a “blow out” to me. Are the Primaries in these states “winner-take-all”? I thought they were proportionate, and with thresholds for getting additional delegates that were fairly high. Obama may win, but they will likely walk away with about the same number of delegates. A 54%-46% and 52%-47% wouldn’t do much more than earn a handful more delegates than the other candidate.
Unless of course, the Obama campaign can draw out more people. It’s about 7 degrees and snowing in Wisconsion today…with a wind-chill bringing it to minus 10-20. That could have an impact. Watched some of the local noon news in Madison and turnout seemed to be heavy with a regular, but organized, flow of people filling in their ballots (though maybe the TV took their shots when a crowd was at the polling place).
Not many female door gunners in 68. These were some special jobs LOCALS
hey jane, sorry to go off topic but did you see this?
Didn’t Ann Althouse just win an award for her Rehab song?

I made sure my vote got in the drop off box this morning.
One of the few things I can say with any certainty today.
can you say “wolf guarding the hen house?”
this is SUPPOSED to be to prevent bush from pulling any funny stuff but if you ask me, we are INVITING it
Want to talk about “madness”? I have handed back a quiz I gave a few days ago. The quiz had nothing to do with what I attempt to teach (math). It had to do with politics. Everyone got 100%. I have opened the discussion to debate. My classes are very civil. And since my lady’s planning period is seventh period,(now), she is moderating.
Lieberman is going to be like the Zombie in Dawn of the Dead and leave the door open so Bush and his hordes can barge in and approve everone.
-G
I’ve heard from friends that work in various campaigns around the country that Repubs have a coordinated effort to vote Hillary in any open primaries they can, since Johnvez McSharraf has the nom wrapped up, and they feel Hillary is their only chance in Nov. Recent state polls are showing this is the case, with Barack opening up 10% leads over McCan’t in many states, while Hillary loses to him almost across the board.
I didn’t like it when Kos encouraged people to do that in MI against Mittmo, and I think it’s pretty pathetic and childish.
Actually, it’s a five hour difference now… Once you ‘Spring’ ahead, it’ll be 6 hours…!
I like the Ohana’s.
This is why I thought the Kos efforts to screw with the Michigan primary and vote for Romney were stupid.
Goose, gander and all.
G
Flip flops and georgia fire ants do not mix!
I should say that I’m only sharing the Alice Walker link for people to check out.
I did not vote for Obama.
And,
What do you people think about the open primary (like WI).
Is it fair that people of one part can try to throw the election but voting for who they think might be the weaker candidate against who they really want elected?
Ladies and gentlemen. It is the dawning of President Obama.
Aloha from Hawaii! I’m pumped up and ready to caucus! I’m caucusing for Obama and my better half is voting for Hill…!
These GOP-ers may be biting off their nose to spite their face it their efforts end up giving Huckabee another strong showing though.
-G
Oh well, I stand corrected by you again. *g*
This is getting waaay tooo technical for me. ;0)
When I left the islands, I had a pair of Scott’s that I wore for another ten years as slippers year round before they fell apart.
Are things tense in your house seeing that it is inhabited by a racist and sexist?
-G
*g* Thank god you don’t have a voting age kid they supporting Edwards, or else you would have to deal with the the Classist label as well!
You’re evil, Dood…! ;-)
Lahoma and I are Obama supporters. We base this on Iraq.
Republicans like Obama as an opponent because they think he’s soft, and they know he’s black.
Same here. Why isn’t this obvious to everyone?
Oh dear. I think I’m going to have to moderate the moderator in my class. This is getting quite spirited.
yes, we could be looking back months from now and saying: the independents and goopers came home to McCain after flirting with Obama in the primaries.
I dont put this forward as a clinton or obama backer (you all know me well enough after all this time)…I just see the possibility.
I mean Martha Raye flew in a few slicks out to 3rd Herd Firebases and I wouldn’t be surprised if they let her cook off a few rounds. . .
And Hillary credits her speechwriters? Barack cribbed two words from Deval Patrick “Just words?”. Sure he referred to a host of other quite famous speeches in history…but that was the very point, wasn’t it? That one easily recognized what those speeches meant…and that they did, indeed, carry important ideas…even if they were not filled with specific policy guidelines.
Imagine if the Constitution had specified precisely what “All men are created equal” meant in the social context of that period? White, land-owning males! That would have essentially killed the idea of a “living, evolving Constitution” wouldn’t it [that’s the whole view of the Federalists, I think].
Or if FDR had laid out his plans on how we were going to defeat the Japanese in the wake of Pearl Harbor, just a day after the attack.
Or that MLK had restricted what his “dream” was to just ending segregation?
Sure, Hillary is a policy wonk…as was her husband. But without the capability of pressing the big fundamental ideas those minutia can get lost and attacked with ease.
Ditto – And you too do it with class.
WAY over my head Raven.
CNN – “Huckabee urges voter to shake up GOP race” and vows to stay in race.
It goes to (eyes rolling) “character”. He should respond that Clinton wants to plagiarize her husband’s administration.
The impression is that voters want change.
No class warriors….homophiles.
The classs race was the default argument for when Coulter slur couldn’t be used in mixed company.
-G
Prudence should be the watchword..i.e. they can hurt ya!
g
I stayed with you on that one Raven.
The Supreme Court is now flexing their corporo-plutocratic muscles. Democractically approved Chief Justice presiding.

My wife and I have about decided to vote for Obama in the Texas primary. I think either candidate is capabable of doing a far better job than any McCain and repairing at least some of the damage done by Bush. My primary reason is that I would like to do what I can to put an end to the competition so the party can begin to unite. I think it’s also possible that Obama has the charisma and leadership to arouse a movement which could forge a larger Democratic Party and enable it to remain in power for some time to come.
It’s also time that I fish or get off the pot, to mix a metaphor.
It was a long time ago I guess.
I know that I can seem a bit strong when it comes to the Clintons. But their rap is a con. The Clintons are about nothing worthwhile.
Cut bait or cut the cheese. eh?
I think it works both ways. Some Republicans might be doing that. Others may be voting for someone that they prefer over McCain. Others may simply be “saying” that they’ll vote in the Democratic Primary to throw a monkey wrench in the system.
Every State has slightly different rules. Some States allow day-of registration. One can become a Democrat that very day. Others only allow Democrats and Independents to vote.
In almost all cases to this point (pre-McCain coronation) the Republican cross-over has been miniscule, and generally by those disappointed by what the Republican candidates had to offer. According to exit polls, some voted for Obama, others Clinton, and early on some voted for Edwards.
I suspect that Republican cross-over is limited enough to make very little difference in actual delegates. And in many races they would give up voting in a House Primary election for their own Party if they do this.
My ex-wife’s mother and my friend, a life long Republican since she emigrated here from Chile has become..gasp an Obamakin..wow, I mean she was Riverside, Ca. dyed in the wool staunchly on the right. Sayin’ something eh?
I don’t understand how the Fineman remarks are sexist. Although, I have a bit of a tin ear when it comes to sexism. Which, I didn’t even know until now! Thanks for making feel like a dick, Hillary!
Senator Obama. Understand this. We expect great things from you, when you become our president. You have four years of toil on your plate. And hopefully four more after that. We in this house think you are remakably up to the task. Do not let us down.
As an Edwards supporter who’s now working for Obama, I’d be happier if Edwards doesn’t endorse at all. I just don’t see what good it does for the causes he champions. Most of his supporters have gone over to Obama by this point (or haven’t gone to anyone, and I don’t see an endorsement changing that), so either he endorses Clinton and we all say “Whaaa?” or he endorses Obama and it’s something of a yawn.
As for what influence he might have, and what support he might get for his causes, I think that’ll work as well if he campaigns for the nominee as if he tries to gamble on guessing the nominee. But what do I know…
The Republican Party in California made a major strategic mistake in disallowing Independents from voting in their Primary. The Democrats had an open-Primary and as a result many Independents and a few Republicans marked a Democrat on a ballot for the first time.
There is something that psychologists have noted…that many people have an aversion to undertaking that first instance of any event. But once they have crossed the threshhold they will actually do it repeatedly, sometimes identifying with the group they associated with at that point. This happened when Regan drew over many Democrats to the dark-side….and they didn’t come back. Maybe it’s gonna happen in reverse in this election.
IMO, I’d say that it was due to her intense dislike of Hill/Bill and her distaste for McCain… I’m sure she isn’t voting for him for his voting record…!
I agree. I would like Edwards to be in the administration of whoever wins and he should just not say anything until the nominee is chosen.
I agree and gives new meaning to the old adage – always expect the unexpected. Hooray for transformed GOP voters!
We, Lahoma and I, think President Obama will do his best, and will once again get our vote.
I think that if Edwards goes with one or the other he will anger great groups of supporters. He would do better to keep them in his camp for later.
Obama – a plagiarist of the worst sort! He’s copying his victories from some other politician, isn’t he?
I agree. I think Edwards’ endorsement is more “for him”, than any benefit that would accrue for the candidate. It might help the candidate a bit in North Carolina, where Edwards could assist in some practical logistic support. But Obama has that State wrapped up IMO. It would simply mean that he could get out even more people to vote for him.
Maybe it would help in West Virginia?
Attorney General Edwards. Sweeter music I have never heard, to my ears.
Will Edward’s endorse Clinton? Not that it was her doing, but NAFTA went through under her husband. Isn’t that gonna, well, piss off alot of his supporters?
What if he’s going to be the Obama’s VP? I think that’s a real possibility, and would be an unbeatable ticket. If that’s the case, he might be waiting for just before March 4th to give Obama a boost at a crucial time, and all this has been a Kabuki Dance to make it seem like Edwards is in fact torn between the two, which would minimize any alienation some Hillary backers might feel if he came out supporting Obama right now.
But indeed, what the hell do we know…
McCain is just about irrelevant.
CT
Having talked to her I think it is more than that, she is genuinely concerned about what she sees(comma)-my grmmer is sooo bad.
My sexismeter works. I actually *gasped* when I heard Droopy Fineman say “ventriloquism” last night on Countdown. I wonder if he‘ll be suspended?
Kiddo you are Da Bomb.
Big G
Hmmm… I like cherry vanilla ice cream! I’d sure like to try Ben and Jerry’s ‘Cherries for Change’…!
Elizabeth Edwards, stalwart & brilliant in her own right, is clearly John Edwards closest advisor and they would be wise not to endorse this early.
Me too. And the look on his face when he realized what he had just said and then had to backtrack…priceless.
On Jerome’s little assessment, Obama just got done swamping Hillary AND the republicans in conservative South Carolina, Virginia, and Maryland.
His big win in South Carolina, where he beat McCain and Huckabee by 16,000 votes, and got 25% of the white vote while doing it, and beat the democrat with the best name recognition in the party, and a democrat who’s a native son here, and who won the state in 2004, has HUGE implications for the republicans and their “safe south” refuge.
In Virginia, he beat ALL of the republicans combined by 136,000 votes;
620,919 to 484,392
If Jerome Armstrong thinks that the RNC is looking at these numbers, and at the crowds Obama’s pulling, and is WANTING him to win the nomination, he’s either flacking for Hillary, or is just a political fool.
If she loses in Wisconsin and Hawaii, it’ll mean 10 wins in a row for Obama.
It will also mean that she’ll be going into Texas, etc., in a do or die mode.
I think it was Wengler (a born troublemaker…:o) ) on GNB, who was speculating about her being desperate enough to just go for it in a state that hasn’t gone democratic in 32 years, and start blasting Obama for being “too far left”, or for being “soft on terrrr”. :o)
I’m not sure she would do it, but if she did, think of how many “misogynists” will be posting at The Lake. :o)
Maybe. But Edwards was pretty much of a “centrist” (a la Lieberman and other members of the New Democrat Coalition caucus) when he was a Senator. He supported the China and “Andean” Trade bills…although he did oppose the Sub-Saharan and Caribbean trade Act. Oddly, he voted against Wellstone’s Amendment to condition trade benefits to those nations only if they Act contained labor and human rights provisions.
It still makes since for me for a cadre of heavy hitters, like Gore and Edwards to hold off endorsements and try to end any party dividing problems after the primaries by throwing their weight one way or the other.
This does say something strange about where you’re fishing.
npb,
Thanks for the comment at my place last night! I’m getting a lot of e-mails from composers and artists WHO DON’T want their name mentioned, for fear of retribution.
With McLame having only his 100 yr war and the people seemingly having had it with the war I can’t see how the republicans can expect to get into the white house next go round.
And with the economy seriously tanked voters are going to want the republicans out.
It seems the only people are OK with the pukes are the big corps and the wealthy, everyone else has taken it on the chin with these creeps.
I can only see the completely paranoid people who want a military dud in the WH to protect us from terra.
And of course the media likes to play the race for all its worth. It’s money ain’t it?
Sorry Busted, I had been going to respond to your earlier humor, and ended up with a general comment. I forgot to removethe reply reference.
You’ve got it pretty much right. It would only be a “blow out” because our political press is incapable of reporting anything other than who “won” a state, Electoral College-style. By straight percentages, if those poll percentages hold, Obama would win two more delegates in Wisconsin and even in Hawaii. Since most Democratic contests are proportional by congressional district, it could be a bit different than that, but not a lot (there are bizarre effects like the fact that winning districts with an odd number of delegates is likely to matter a lot more than ones with an even number.)
But yeah, the only sense in that it’s a “blow out” is relative to polls showing that it could go either way. It’s pure narrative.
Hey hippies,
Here’s a link out of an email I got from move-on.org.
http://pol.moveon.org/lte?camp…..&t=83
Also, in the email, this:
More and more Americans are making the connection between the billions we’ve spent over there and the crumbling economy here at home. In fact, a new AP poll shows that most Americans think ending the war is the best way to help the economy.2 But pundits still talk about the war and the economy as two unrelated things.
RWCole@9/ what are the republicans going to hit him with?
A lack of patriotism for the fact that he spoke out early against the great success that has been “operation enduring mayhem”? :o)
Hawaii has 29 delegates at stake tonite, and they’re broken down by State House districts…!
OT: brent wilkes sentenced to twelve years. (cross posted at ew’s)

Here is part of an email that I wrote to my daughter, that expresses how I feel, and maybe what some of you do also, not pushing anyone, just sayin’
We are all ready for a change, a very big change. here is an example of possibility that you might think about. In the early part of the last century, 20’s, 30’s there were two countries with similar problems, extreme unemployment and poverty. One country helped and nurtured it’s citizens (much to the everlasting hate of the right-think my mom, heard about many times as a kid), the other subjected it’s citizens to death and misery..Roosevelt..Hitler. Obama is not Roosevelt but I feel that magic, and he can potentially steer us and the world away from the totaliatarian state we are becoming, and help remove the gray pall across the world cast by this administration. If you think I am wrong, read Naomi Wolf’s book The End of America: Letter to A Young Patriot outlining the steps that every government of this type has taken to achieve this result..this is serious as a heart attack shit we are dealing with…that is why I will vote for him, and feel that his strength of character and seeming wisdom, will carry him vis a vis foreign policy, which, I don’t know if you know this, has been driven by troglydites for years with self evident bad judgement that has hurt the world in any area you care to name, and I pray to the gods that we can change this and deal with the very real, species ending problems we face instead of the criminality we have today that all but ignores our very survival. Go Obama..on the light side, and sorry this wasn’t a rant this was an explication, you know what republicans for Obama are called….Obamakins..hehe, sounds like a bunch of gerbils.
I love you
I would find it odd if he did, considering the recent campaign, but there was talk about it last week in the press. Fortunately, I believe John and Elizabeth have enough sense not to talk to anyone who might talk to the press about their thinking on endorsements, so I dismiss all such reports.
Well, it’s four more years than what Duke received…!
We are trying to decide whether to drive 40 miles into downtown Dallas tomorrow to hear Obama. We’ll have to deal with some rush hour traffic. If we do it and I come back from all that still impressed with his speaking ability, it will mean he is a mesmerizer for sure.
I’m a bit confused about the reaction to Fineman’s statement.
Was he implying that Hillary is just a brainless woman, or that her campaign may be unduly influenced by her husband?
Because one way is horribly offensive, and the other is an opinion. I’m leaning towards thinking he meant it as a non-gender specific putdown.
His follow up statement “And Hillary isn‘t always known as the most authentic candidate that you‘ve ever seen that come down the pike, very calculating, very scripted and so forth.” doesn’t strike me as sexist at all. It can apply to a candidate of either sex.
I dunno, maybe I’m completely off-base here. Wouldn’t be the first time.
Soviet General, strike that, American General says it will ‘take years to defeat the Taliban’ in Afghanistan.
So, the decade long struggle in the 80’s for the Russians in Afghanistan made them look weak. But this one makes America look strong?
-G
BTW, I’m not saying that I agree with Fineman’s assessment of Hillary at all.
I probably should have made that clear.
Totally worth going and witnessing history, whether he wins or not.
Bonkers@22; I think you got it.
When I saw Edwards 3 months ago, here in South Carolina, his profound regret, and his unequivocal apology for his vote to help enable the misery that is Iraq, was as genuine a statement as I’ve ever heard.
And the fact that Hillary has never done anything like that, will, I deeply hope, by itself, preclude his endorsing her.
I hope Obama’s got John’s endorsement in hand, and is waiting to use it on March 4th. It just might be the horse that carried us to a landslide in November, instead of a Cliffhanger for the republicans to steal.
Thinkprogress has a post about how the US is using threats of eminent domain to take poor and old folks land to ‘build up that wall’ against the Mexiclamofascists and that the wall conveniently stops at the lands edge of a Bush pioneer who happens to be an oil millionaire.
Two America’s.
-G
Ventriloquism, by definition, requires a dummy.
Yeah, I think so too.
That’s astute. How come guys like you get that and the MSM can’t connect the dots?
One of the main reasons I’m for Obama is that at this time in history, the world needs to be united. The world loves Obama – he is everyman…it’s our best shot at peace and at repairing the notion that we are all a bunch of jerks like Bushco.
JMHO
Would that be Cheney’s favorite Texas canned bird hunting camp? Is it the King Ranch? Are they one and the same?
Hi, Jane, all!
I was listening to Fineman on Olbermann last night when said that. My wife had to restrain me from throwing my burrito at the teevee.
I like Olbermann ok, but why does he have to have on his show repugnant scumbucket wackaloon political “analysts” like Fineman and whatshisname with the caricature pompous asshole tone in his voice?
I was about to say, “Hey. A whole post about the election and not one pie thrown.” But, then I went back to see #117, and it’s gone.
So. Never mind. *g*
I find the press concept of “authenticity” really annoying. Especially since the people they dub “authentic,” like Bush and George Allen, are inevitably people whose entire public persona is fake.
“Authentic” means “Republican who pretends not to engage his brain before shooting off his mouth.” “Calculating” means “Democrat who actually considers their answer, both because that’s what thinking people do, and because the press will try to find a ‘gothca’ in anything they say.”
I think we should be concerned about a very popular populist type leader. They don’t have much of a shelf life in this country.
I’d be very careful were I Obama. Kevlar underwear?
Right.
So it’s a nasty characterization, but not necessarily misogynistic.
The wall is a ridiculous boondoggle – another Buschco excuse to hand billions of dollars to a few favorite corporations. Any terrist worth his salt can enter or exit the US without crossing the Mexican border, especially if he is a friend of the Bush family.
Very disappointing news, indeed. Are classical musicians without organized labor support here, there and everywhere within the U.S.? Damn. Having never been to Alaska I am woefully uninformed on stats there yet I would hope and trust community organizers would support the plight of facist corporate bullies forcing the orchestra to endure a inappropriate p.r. gimmick by grabbing all the credit when it is hardy their due. Alinsky is turning in his grave! Guess a general strike is out of the question?
coulda fooled me. think puppet, strings, and no brain?
Osama bin Laden will attest to the benefits of being a Bush family friend.
Who is Dana Milbank?
707. Good one. Jeopardy.
while I’ve been embarrassed by the many flimsy charges of racism and sexism that have been lobbed by the campaigns, I will say that comment by Fineman is disgusting and unacceptable.
What a royal dickface.
Made of wood, plastic, and polyester
He could attest to that, but would he? If Bin laden had announced to the world (in an ominous taped message) the fact that his family and the Bush family have been business associates for years, it would have dismantled the Bush machine (lets say prior to the 04 election that was close enough to steal via Ohio). Who would Osama vote for?
He’s looking for a job in the general election. Too little too late, and too bad.
Anyone here from Nevada with us now?
I called Harry Reid’s Washington office and spoke to the young woman, Natasha, who answered the phone. Reid’s in Washington working for the recess she said. And she’d give him the message that I would like to see another Senator open the pro forma session other than Joe Lieberman. When I asked her to call me back with a response, she said they could only call back constituents.
Anyone else want to give it a shot – just to let them know we’re here? The pro formas are supposed to be today and Thursday. I don’t know what time or which day Lieberman was assigned to.
Reid’s office in DC: 202-224-3542
Christy’s upstairs…
By herself.
could we be looking at this with too fine a microscope? I don’t think the point is that Clinton is a woman and thus can’t speak for herself. I think it might be more that people fear/love Bill Clinton and so are imagining that anything she says is coming from him. If Hillary was married to anyone else, then I could see it as sexism.
Double that. I have never forgotten (and I have a photograph I took to remind me if I do) watching JFK give a stump speech off the back end of a railway car in Springfield, Ohio. Go.

What will goopers hit him with—caught being black? Goin to a moslem school?, hating america? Affairs with white women?
Beats me- but they’ll think of something.
I’m so tired of a Bush or a Clinton being in office for the past 28 years that the thought of Hillary getting in makes me want to pull my hair out one by one and then make some mittens with it!
As I periodically have done when I was feeling down since New Hampshire, I think Hillary might pull this out tonight. I certainly do not think the exit polls will call it for Obama when the polls close.
That’s some picture: he’s not walking on water….but on people’s heads. Oh my!
Fineman’s comment was despicable, as was KO’s reaction to it. They acted as though it is a given that an accomplished woman had to have a man behind pulling strings. When Hill gets all wonkish and spouts out facts and numbers from her fingertips, something that neither W or, for that matter, Obama can do, she is just being Bill’s dummy? I am sick and tired of MSNBC’s never ending misogyny. In this regard they are a class by themselves. Not even FOX with its odious O’Reilly can keep up with Tweety and the jocks.
I don’t think you can blame Hillary for making you feel like a dick.
I don’t believe disliking HRC = misogyny. HRC has done little to endear herself to progressives and has done a lot to alienate them. I can’t stand her at all, though there are a number of women I’d vote for if they were running.
I’ll even hold my nose (and my stomach) if she’s the nominee, but I believe if she is, it’s a clear path to the oval office for McBush. Hillary cannot win. Obama WILL win if he’s nominated. To me, that’s the difference.
I guess if that makes me a misogynist, I’ll wear the t-shirt but Hillary has done far too much triangulating and supporting of Chimpy McClusterfuck’s policies for me to ever be able to willingly support her.
That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it.
If you listen carefully to the debates, their responses are so so very often, Clinton POINTS TO (literally and otherwise) the past, and Obama, moves the question and the issue toward the future. Apparently a whole bunch of listeners are following. Who could blame them, with things sucking so badly in the here and now.
I don’t mean to offend anyone here, but Clinton (and I do NOT refer to her anywhere as “Hillary”) is so very obviously “current Washington, DC”, like McCain. And THERE’S YOUR BUG!
I don’t WANT WASH/DC as it is!
I have said at least a bazillion times, whenever and wherever possible, petitions, news sources, blogs, to people at dinner parties, bbq’s, really, the little tiny local paper here, and in the larger town over, and to Congresspeople, mine and others, Reptilian AND Snake alike:
I WANT MY COUNTRY BACK!!!
And I want it back NOW!
Clinton wants the White House!! For too many reasons to list, and those are the ones we KNOW about.
Speculating here, I don’t KNOW, but I think Obama is as friggin sick of our government as I am. I think he stepped on out there to work to make things better and found out quickly that the stench was coming from on high! And he didn’t want to live his life trying to deal AROUND the chit. He decided to straighten it all out, or at least FIX SOME OF IT.
