Well, as I understand it, capitalism is the mechanism whereby human effort is used to create accumulated wealth for other individuals, particular the many for the benefit of the few. It is the idea of this accumulation, of “private” property, that enables a multitude of dysfunctions. For me, examples of “humanistic” capitalists ignores the original sin of exploitation.

There is no system, no “ism”, that can replace or correct this, of course. It’s a shift in worldview, on the individual level, one by one, away from “having” stuff and towards a sharing of the burdens (and joys) of life.

It all sounds very Danish, I know ;).

The first time that Hillary Clinton opens her mouth about “the surge is nothing but bribing the insurgents to help bush try to put Iraq into lockdown to give he and the GOP time to get out of town” (that is, IF she ever DOES it) the republicans will be running ads with these clips in them:

Even if you prove to be right about all of your opinions, what good will the end zone dances before the fact have accomplished?

Additionally, although I will probably vote for Obama in the Texas primary, it is only after long considered judgement and attempting to ignore the tendency of many Obama supporters to be abbrasive and insulting to FDL participants and Democrats who are at least their equal in learning and thought.

Even if you think of it as a choice of the lesser of two evils McCain vs. either Clinton or Obama is equivalent of a choice between cancer and acne.

And some people keep bragging about how they’ll “support the nominee of the party” as if it were some Gregorian Chant to ward off the devil of dis-unity.

Kiddo! Everyone ON here will support the nominee of the party. You need to stop using that as an excuse to not deal with the fact that in CONSERVATIVE states like South Carolina, Maryland, and Virginia, Barack Obama has been pulling huge margins over the republicans, with all that that implies for our success in the general.

With Hillary’s supporters, it’s getting to the point of comedy, as they hammer on bush and the wingers, and then ignore the fact that the candidate opposing Clinton is shellacking both she AND the republicans, and he’s doing it in states that have predominantly been republican for years and years. :o)

The tax structure means that accumulation of fortunes is harder and that most of the wealth created is distributed to the society.

Sweden as huge corporations like Volvo and Ikea, but they also have a wide range of social programs for all.
