If this article is true, Texas is teeming with phony soldiers.
Few communities have more at stake in the upcoming presidential election than Killeen. Whoever wins will preside over wars in Iraq and Afghanistan that dominate the lives of Killeen residents, including the approximately 50,000 soldiers who call neighboring Fort Hood home between deployments.
But the seemingly obvious choice here — McCain, a former prisoner of war who has been a staunch supporter of the Iraq war — may not be so obvious after all.
"I don’t see a consensus on any candidate at all, on either side," said Ralph Gauer, a retired Army colonel who many community leaders said has the best sense of Killeen’s leanings.
What?! How is this possible? There’s only one choice if you’re in the military: vote Republican.
Don’t these soliders know that Democrats hate them? Don’t they know the Democrats want to surrender in Iraq? Don’t they know Osama would vote Democrat? Don’t they know we must defeat the defeatists and elect a Republican?
With few immediately visible signs that presidential politics are at work in Killeen, the most active organization in town may be volunteers for U.S. Rep. Paul of Lake Jackson— all 28 of them.
No! Not that Republican!
Don’t these soldiers know that Paul is a clueless joke who wants to pull out of Iraq and blames America for everything? What’s going on here?
But it gets worse.
…people such as Sgt. Maj. Antonio Barnes, who likes Clinton’s experience as a U.S. senator from New York but has not picked a favorite.
While getting a high-and-tight haircut, surrounded by stylists chatting in Korean, Barnes, 45, declined to discuss the war — "being a soldier, I follow orders" — but he said broader concerns about the economy are more important to his eventual choice.
"I’m concerned about the middle class getting smaller," he said. "The gap between the haves and the have-nots is getting wider. I’m thinking about my children: Are they going to live as well as my generation has?"
Sgt. Maj. Barnes is seriously confused and needs an intervention immediately. The fact that he’s even considering voting for cut-and-run Hitlery is bad enough. But for him to swallow this whole Democrat fantasy that the government can make the economy better for the middle class? Pathetic.
The middle class is doing just great. Stop believing the liberal media’s lies and suck it up, Sgt. Barnes.
If these are the views of the soldiers in Texas, we might as well put all our women in burkas and burn all our bibles now. We’ve already lost.

hello there.
At work–gotta go–will read later Blue Texan.
you know, the democrats can REALLY go with that sign, “who would bin laden vote for”
this president has been bin laden’s fantasy, his wet dream.
if bin laden wrote a playbook for what would need to happen and he would enjoy total achievment of all his goals, george bush read and follows that playbook
its as if this president is on bin ladens team and it is bizarre they actually want to use that as some kind of tool to get people to vote republican
the republicans ar the party of draft dodgers and they have alot of nerve trying to reclaim the brand they relinquished long ago
I knew it!
Clearly these soldiers can’t hold Bill Kristol’s jockstrap.
The GOP jig is up but the mainstream media is afraid to tell the truth by and large.
-G
Part of it is what websites and radio programs are available to them. On the other hand a sizable chunk of (majority?) of the military does not support Bush – which says alot.
I want to cut and paste from this page
I know it’s a long cut and paste but for those that won’t click the link it is a devasting attack assault on the republicans who TRY to make believe they are anything but yellow skinned cowards
if a mod feels the paste is too long, please feel free to edit
More here.
The reality is that no one from the Bush family has honestly served in the military since WWII. It’s amazing that anyone in the military would support any Bush now.
Yet one more problem with an all volunteer military. I would be willing to bet that not a lot of IQs over 100 carrying those guns in Iraq. Or anywhere else come to that.
Aw, bucha pussies!
Now I’m not sure that’s entirely fair.
the fact that they don’t support bush is differant then not supporting the republican that runs
the democrats have to make it clear, the republicans are the enemy of the military
one of the reasons we are over extended is to break the military, this president wants to privatize the armed forces, they do not want a government military, that would be too hard to steal from, they want blackwater and private companies like that, very easy to steal government assets when you privatize these types of services
It way less that unfair, remember the pickle Kerry got into for saying something much less stupid.
I would expect that the military has pretty much a normal distribution of IQ- although I don’t know for sure.
A lot of them surely did not want to be around a lot of pot smoking beer drunks they preferred cocaine and cocktails at home.
LOL – you are on a roll today!
raven, I understand the discomfort but let’s look at something that developed under the bush tenure;
right now, it would seem very few people will enter the military who don’t have to, this war cannot really be supported by too many people, whether from a military family or not
what we are left with enlisting now a days are the bottom of the barrel, they’ve even had to relax their standards in order to get anyone to enlist at all, they are bribing people with 25000 dollar bonuses, and deals of becoming a citizen
the intellectual quality of those that would enlist would have to drop under such a miserable commander in chief.
Walter Reed.
Buying their own armor.
Deployments over and over.
No job when they return.
Losing their homes.
PTSD.
Yeah, vote for McBush and have some more…
Not.
The troops know what’s going on.
DOW down again today- guess we needs us some more tax cuts fer the rich.
The officer corp usually prefers war to peace- few make big reputations by movin hog’s bellies from Omaha to Danbury.
Rather than a shrinking middle class the U.S. would benefit far more from a shrinking Republican Party.
No worries – Helicopter Ben will take care of ‘em.
If McBush wins- he could be the first prez who needs to worry about bein fragged if he shows up in a combat zone.
Thank you perris for making sense out of what I was poorly trying to get at. Damn sorry if I offended Raven, no dummy there.
Nancy and Harry are working to keep that from happening.
Yes, folks in Killeen typically vote Republican, but that hasn’t been true lately. I remember a TV news report (probably PBS) that interviewed folks there prior to the 2006 election. While they weren’t necessarily sympathetic to Democratic views of the issues, many said they’d vote Democratic that year just to shake things up. I don’t know how much longer that thought will hold there, and that’s something Democrats ought to contemplate.
You are right. Alas, the Dems have been so timid that they have not been willing to target the troops with advertising etc. And, part of the issue is the geographica demographic. The bulk of the bases are now in the south which not only brings critical revenue to the south in base support -and military support operations more generally- but also puts them in the right wing CNN/FOX markets. Another factor is the Evangelization of the military from the academies (Airforce among others) down to the sort of programing available on armed forces radio. I was shocked a couple of years ago when I was living in Germany for 6 weeks for research and to give a series of lectures just how bad American services radio was. I felt especially bad for the minority troops (and well, just about everyone) because the music sucked especially. Nothing close to an urban edgy Rap or Latin beat.
When Texas goes back dem- which it will in the not so distant future as Hispanics become a larger percentage of the population- it’s a new day.
Discomfort my dying ass. Your statement may have some veracity but saying these kids have IQ’s less that 100 is pure bullshit. Remember, I was one of those “bottom of the barrel” punks who ended up in the Army and beyond while the cream of the fucking crop went to college. No way I let this slide.
McCain has made it clear that he will put the troops in harm’s way for at least the next 100 years.
Hey Blue Texan,
Nice post
Except it is bad for my health-what with boiling blood and the physics involved vis a vis my arterial system.
Surrender-fuck that word-all it means to me is evisceration continued by the fools who created this mess, a bunch of fucking amateurs running foreign policy whose hegemonic view when held by other nations in history, failed every goddamn time
Oh the ignorance
Free education
Free Medical Care
And by the way Bin Laden would vote for McCain so he can continue as a consigliore in his army, doing the job done so well by the other moron.
f*&k
Mad would be a pale word to describe ones emotions in the face of such as this.
I agree with you Raven, but they have lowered the standards of late to keep up with recruitments – both for prior mental problems and for amount of time in H.S. (I don’t have specifics).
Don’t know how this thing will work out in the end- but Hillary and Obama must both be lickin their chops at this point achin ta get a piece of McBush.
Thanks nomo, I didn’t really think that was thought through. My friends kid, U of Minn grad and infantryman just got back from his first tour, I’m a little sensitive.
In 100 years, will a Bush serve in harms way?
Well said…and, hey all you right wing fools what’s on your resume, you that send us to death.
Only if there’s a war in Paraguay.
No question, IQ under 100, come on. Even in the heyday of Project 100,000 that let my educated brethren have some ghetto kid pull his weight for him it wasn’t any 100 IQ.
Yeah- probably. There’s a lotta Bushes out there—and at least one of em will probably get the idea of riding a military career to the White House.
ok, I announce my candidacy for president and the following is my only platform;
“before I bring the troops home, I will declare a draft of the period of 1 hour, in that time, every single person who voted for the war, every single person that votes to extend the occupation will be drafted
if they are too old to serve, there will be someone in their family who will serve, if you have immediate kin, they will all serve”
there, how do you think the twins are gonna look in kakis?
A fair question, Ms. Whomever-you-are:
And the answer is;
He’d vote for John McCain and his “hundred year plan”. :o)
For the simple reason that assholes like McCain (as evidenced by george bush) are an Al Queada recruiter’s wet dream come real.
The exponential increase in the numbers of pissed-off Muslims who want a piece of us, is unspinnably due to bush’s ginning up the La Brea East shit-and-tarpit in Iraq. Why on earth would Osama want NOT want an american preznint in office who’s got a hard-on that a cat couldn’t scratch, for sustaining it?
I said I agree with you. *g* And, one could add another factor, increasingly people who want to go to college find they are unable to afford it so they are going into the military first with the idea they can get the necessary funds. So, in short, it is the “new” college.
In all, 354,000 men were rolled up by Project 100,000. Touted as a Great Society program that would provide remedial education and an escape from poverty, the recruitment program offered a one-way ticket to Vietnam, where “the Moron Corps,” as they were pathetically nicknamed by other soldiers, entered combat in disproportionate numbers. Although Johnson was a vociferous civil rights advocate, the program took a heavy toll on young blacks. A 1970 Defense Department study disclosed that 41 percent of Project 100,000 recruits were black, compared with 12 percent in the armed forces as a whole. What’s more, 40 percent of Project 100,000 recruits were trained for combat, compared with 25 percent for the services generally.
George P Bush, Jeb’s kid, joined the Naval Reserves. He’s supposed to be in trining now to go into Military Intelligence. *shudder*
At least, that was the plan last year.
Even if both Twins enlisted and went to Iraq- it wouldn’t make the war one ounce less stupid.
RWCole@32:
The problem is that Hillary CAN’T get a piece of McCain for Iraq.
Here, again:

And postage stamp sandwiches with gray poopon mustard
Even though the “funding” is totally inadequete.
There are also a lot of folks entering the military who see this as their best way to get some education and a paycheck, especially from inner city and poor rural areas. Not so many jobs around those parts, but the military offers a way out.
Of course, there’s a steep price to be paid for getting that education and paycheck.
Yeah that kid already has the presidential bug.
Well, I can’t remember who or what I agree with….. I should be editing, and if the discussion is not about proverbs, fairy tales I feel the drive by I am doing now is not helping anyone’s cause.
Jebidiah’s kids are half hispanic- just waitin fer the new age of politics. One of em could win California?
say hello to the new head of intelligence
Aw, it’s all bullshit (or Kabuki if you are real smart and hip) :)
“Yet one more problem with an all volunteer military. I would be willing to bet that not a lot of IQs over 100 carrying those guns in Iraq. Or anywhere else come to that.”
Wrong! Wrong! Wrong! My son is in the 1st Cav, currently stationed at Ft. Hood. He lives in Killeen. He returned from his first 15 month deployment in Iraq last fall and will go back in Jan. 2009. He had 2.5 years in college before he dropped out the join the Army. Not my choice but it is his life. He is very smart and capable but a warrior at heart. Most young people join the Army for college money, health care, a steady job, a wish to do something important with their lives, a yes, for partiotism. Agree or disagree with them but don’t insult people who put their lives on the line for their country every single day. BTW, he’s dem and will vote for whoever the democratic nominee for president is.
He did indeed, but it’s mostly just for show. There’s really no chance of him serving in Iraq, but it should help him when running for office.
So Raven what does one do when saddled with this knowledge..and I feel as you. Serious question by the way
LOL
The Iraq war is very important in this household. We have family in the Air Force and the Army. And all of us want out. I can speak for those in our family who are in the military, and who vote, and who are Democrats or Republicans. We are united, regardless of political party, on the need to bring our soldiers home from Iraq.
If I were the religous type I’d say bless him but all I can say is Gerry Owen!
The Pentagon likes goopers cause they give em lots of money and start wars for em in which they can get promoted to General Officer. They also look forward to jobs in the gooper controlled military/industrial complex after retirement.
This won’t change in our lifetimes.
To the people of Iraq I say, sorry. For what my government has done to you.
Carol@54/ I don’t question your son’s intelligence for a moment, but I certainly question that he’s putting his life on the line “for our country”…
At this point, he’s HAVING to do it to try to give bush and the republicans time to get out of office and leave the democrats holding the pinless hand-grenade.
The United States government never seems to tire of war, bloodshed and genocide. General George Custer Bush obviously feels the same way.
How much Bush, McCain or Lieberman family blood has been spilled to the higher calling of spreading Democracy in Iraq?
So Raven what does one do when saddled with this knowledge..and I feel as you. Serious question by the way.
Watch Lewis Black roll his eyes?
Someone (Lanny Davis) said soon after the invasion of Iraq:
“If yer gonna be the wartime president- you’d better win the war”
Somethin Clusterfuck can’t do- nor will McBush. By the time November rolls around- he’ll have another year of stalemate under his belt.
oh man, you are gonna LOVE this, emboldened is by crooks and liars;
I want justice. I want the rule of law. I demand war crimes tribunals.
For a long time, the mean IQ of enlisteds was around 105. But in the last few years, the percent of Category IVs that have been allowed to enlist has been repeatedly raised. Whether this has lowered the overall mean below 100 is not something I can find, but you can be pretty confident that the mean is now under 105.
With that said, may I add that I find little to no value in the standardized IQ test that is used. When IQ is estimated from other data, as is often the case when making statements about enlisteds, the lack of value is magnified.
Americans don’t mind war- they mind LOSING.
George P is gonna be the new and improved Bush political candidate with real military experience (non-combat, of course – and not stationed in any dangerous places – he knows the right people).
Brown and black people are by far the majority of those folks who have perished in Iraq since we began our attack.
No- that’s exactly the same military track record as the OLD Bush. Flew airplanes in Texas till he got so scared he shit his pants while tryin to land em.
This was fucking lost when it began as all wars are, every goddamn one of them
The 10 Most Brazen War Profiteers
Hard to say- Clusterfuck messed it up so much that it’s impossible to go back and see if there might have been a way of winnin the thing- but you’re probably right about this one- not WW2 though.
Take a look at this pix if you will.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/200…..ccain_bush
i resemble that remark – i’m an american and i mind war. i mind war a lot. bring them all home. from everywhere. and then take care of them – whatever they need. and then rebuild and care for the people we’ve been destroying in iraq and afghanistan and most of the globe.
I apologize, I am too mad, will quit commenting..no offense to you rwcole.
If you really, really love war, then McCain is your man.
If Clusterfuck had been able to invade Iraq and occupy it with few casualties- americans would be kissing his ass and threatening to make him King. It was the losing that got their goats.
Has anyone done a test commercial yet of McCain’s face morphing to Bush’s- and back again. We’ll certainly see it before this is all over.
“man’s inhumanity to man”. Lord, what a timeless statement.
If you get a chance sometime..take a look at this excellent diary about Hezbollah and other things:

Ding, ding, ding
Bush and McCain seem to have a peculiar zest for death.
Have I told you today that you are on a roll?*g*
I really enjoy your sardonic wit!
Oooo….it would be really cool to see him taking the oath of office during inauguration and morphing into W by the end of the oath.
Exactly. He has no intention of going to war, this is preparation for running for office in 10-15 years. I’d bet his military involvement was carefully planned to make sure he will never be in danger.
He’s the Bush’s next generation “chosen one.”
Not so sure: there still would have been major push back from the M.E., terrorist threats to the West (G.B., Spain, U.S.) that would have been matched by the fear FEAR FEAR meme. Plus, we would have had to find more markets to export our armaments too (and wars so that the officers could rise in the ranks). Very complex and nasty stuff.
There will be no peace in the Middle East until the gates of the Gaza gulag are opened. And there is a Palestinian homeland.
RW Cole – oh oh, was that snark? If so, my bad.
Whew, the $64,000 question. Do what you can and live life to the fullest. Some folks get so wound up in the whole thing that they will never enjoy themselves.
But who knows if the dems would be worse? The pukes are playing the notions that the dems are peaceniks and don’t fight.
http://www.deathsiniraq.com/casualties-race.html
US Deaths are overwhelmingly white, come on Kiddo, do your homework.
George P need only do one thing – that is he simply doesn’t go AWOL like Uncle Dim Bulb, he will have a record that will be propped up, primped and polished and advertised proudly by the corporate media. Dubya had to keep references to his own military service discrete, b/c of the tax money wasted on training an incompetent dumb ass to fly, the unexplained AWOL, the cocaine and alcohol, the purged records, the “lost” driving record, and so on.
No question that George P is intended to be the resurrection of the Bush.
all we can assume sandero is the obvious, if the obvious fails we will regroup
That’s it in a nutshell and should be a banner headline.
65% are white.
Does that represent the population of the USA?

neat, “Hebollah sleeper cells,” sounds like a neocon wet-dream.
Americans start every war with great bravado- marches- bands- flag waving.
It’s only later that the reality begins to intrude.
In the early days of the Civil War- at the first battle of Bull Run- thousands packed picnic lunches into their buggies and went off to spend the day “watching the war” and cheering the boys on. Turned into a bit of a mess as the drunken onlookers blocked roads needed as their boys retreated in a frenzy.
Would you say that the lower IQ’s gravitate, or are gravitated, to the combat arms?
Seems to me if only 1 % of the people that put this pres in office had to send their kids, or for that matter had the courage to enlist themselves, instead of sending someone else’s kids the problem would take care of itself. It’s easy to send someone else to die for your own failed policy – fucking cowards, all of them.
BT says “If these are the views of the soldiers in Texas, we might as well put all our women in burkas and burn all our bibles now. We’ve already lost.”
I say digg it
That would be…Scalia and
Spartan mothers and wives had a departing message for their loved ones marching off to war “WITH you shield or ON it”.
Unfortunately, when you are in the military, you don’t get to pick and choose.
Only slightly OT (via ThinkProgress):
“BUSH: I don’t think so. I think actually the spending in the war might help with jobs…because we’re buying equipment, and people are working. I think this economy is down because we built too many houses and the economy’s adjusting.”
Hmm, so that ownership society stuff is working a little too well?
How the fuck is this imbecile still President?
which is as it should be;
the art of war, sun tzu
I’ve felt exactly that way for a long time. Beyond the WTC massacre, the political implications of 911 have been a quintissential success story for Bin Ladin–he never dreamed he could decimate the Constitution and cow the lilly livered shivering Article III appellate judges into rubber stamping States Secrets since 911.
Thanks for sharing this. Very interesting and informative. It really gives pause for thought.
Spot on Blue Texas. I hang out at a college football site with a lot of Red State wannabe’s. It used to be, if anyone said anything a millimeter to the left of Grover Norquist, they were crucified as a commie-pinko-you-know-what.
Now we’ve got Iraq Veterans (and some serving in Iraq who are online) telling the chicken hawks on the board to STFU.
it’s as if the bin laden family and the bush family are friends, isn’t it?
oh, wait…
lol…there’s Bandar Bush and Osama Bin Bush.
Oh why do they hate our freedom so?
1,761 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen Blue Texan and the Firepup Freedom Fighters:
America’s world has changed but the old power structure hasn’t… yet. There is no longer an industrial base to sustain a broad based consumer economy or middle class but the structure of public controls of economic production and distribution remain producer based. While the old industrial infrastructure rusts away, the securities and exchange laws and regulations as well as the progressive tax structure that were put in place to insure that the velocity of capital thru the economy was slow enough to keep it reinvested and distributed domestically have long since been dismantled (thanx Ronnie Reagan). While a new information or financial model has replaced the industrial model, the political controls and infrastructure remain the same and ,thus, the people can not easily improve their lot by simply changin’ the politicians thru the ballot box.
On top of all this, the old model of the military has also been deliberately de-funded while the hemorrhage of tax money has allowed private, corporate armies to replace the large inefficient standing military. Why is it surprising then that the “soldier class” of career military has changed their political affiliation to reflect the reality of their experience?
We are experiencing the results of 27 years of “friendly fascism” and the old political structure (read “the Constitution” here) that was in place for a little less than 200 years to mitigate against such a concentration of power is long since gone. The change in political attitudes and vocabulary of the working military simply reflect the changes in their social and economic reality but the old mechanisms of democratic political and social expression that used to be in place to channel that reality into coalitions for change are no longer in place.
We long ago lost our constitutional democracy and with it went the mechanisms to secure any kind of social or economic justice.
This election is indeed about change but most of us don’t have a clue jest how much change is necessary or the costs of recapturin’ our democracy…I ain’t optimistic.
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION, THESE BASTARDS SURELY AIN’T GIVIN’ UP WITHOUT A FIGHT!!
McBush says that it might be good fer the prez to do some fundraisint- but WITHOUT McBush.
LOL
You know, if you look at the really, really big picture down the road…the Bush family actually wants to literally own and rule the universe. That is really, really scary. That sounds kind of demonic to me.
Bin Laden and Bush families have a detailed history of having benefited from government contracts bequeathed to their respective businesses. Bin Laden Construction Companies and The Carlyle Group, Excite! and other Bush enterprises are very interested in corporate welfare aka big business deals.
McBush doesn’t want to appear with the Prez- afraid that people will notice the resemblance!
I’ve done my homework. I was referring to the overall death numbers in Iraq. Not just American deaths. How many millions of Iraqis have been killed since the invasion? Last time I checked, most Iraqis killed have been brown.
You mean Ignite! or is Excite! one too?
I’ll tell you something ls;
if someone were to write a novel and use the events as they transpire, depicting a deliberate overthrow of this country, an overthrow from within
and if that novel used the events as they happened under this president, his decisions, the advise he was given vs the decisions he went with
and in that novel, America fell
the reader would have laughed, the novel would have never been published for being too incredible
here we have a man making the EXACT decisions that would facilitate the fall of our nation
and we KNOW he was given the correct decisions to make, but he did the oposite each and every time
and yet nobody is challenging the intentions of this administration
I submit, then administration has deliberately undermined this country, her armed forces, our constitution and we are in grave danger
there’s a new post up, I go for the zed
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5SoE9vBc6I
This should pretty well explicate that question
gahtit!
Yes, you are correct. I meant, Ignite! by Neil.
I don’t think IQ has anything to do with whether or not you’re in a rifle company. I think you would be surprised.
That should read “how many thousands…”, not “millions.
Citizen Kiddo:
Yer right as the rain we haven’t had fer five er six years!
This was in the NYT yesterday and the whole premise of protecting the people at risk has bothered me. We all know close to 80% of the deaths in Iraq for our soldiers are from IEDs and their sequels that are tripped by heavy vehicles planted a few feet under the road. We know that the million dollar MRAPs are very successful at protecting from the roadside bombs that are doing most of the killing. There is also evidence that the Israelis have a jamming technology that has over 95% efficacy that the Pentagon has ignored because of the politics of bids, contracts, Congress, lobbyists, and contributions.
This ought to bother the hell out of anyone. It’s a callous disregard of life and it has tragic proportions.
As to the MRAPs:
Study Faults Delay of Armored Trucks for Iraq
Maddy@128; hell of a link. Thanks. :o)
Well, I guess I apologize although you were pretty much stating the obvious if you meant all deaths.
Blue Tex, I came to your article late, maybe too late to comment, but I was turned off by your remark about HRC “cut and run Hilery” What has that got to do with the Sgt’s comments? Sounds like he told the interviewer (was it you?) that Iraq was off limits for him due to “military orders”. That’s what you should be highlighting, not your distaste for Hillary.
ye gods! We all know Killeen is populated by military and their families, requiring them to live buttoned up lives (have you ever been a military dependent living on base?) You’ve got to answer to all kinds of regulations…cleaning your place spic and span when moving, etc etc.
Surely if follows you are frowned on for speaking your mind.
Lots of military have contributed to our enlightenment on the war (occupation) thru letters, blogs, tv appearances after retirement. Not all of them are gungho Bush.
My fellow Texan, please don’t contribute to the candidate slamming we see often here on FDL. it’s not going to help the nominee in the long run.
Sounds a lot like th early M-16 that caused so many Marine deaths in the “Hill Fights”. Fuckers tried to blame that on the troops.
It was sarcasm, geeze.
Well, I missed it. Will go back and re-read.
Raven asked: “Would you say that the lower IQ’s gravitate, or are gravitated, to the combat arms?”
No, I wouldn’t. In fact, I would say that any discussion of who enlists that focuses on one parameter, such as IQ, is doomed to be incomplete and probably misleading. And then I would run from said discussion as fast as my little legs could carry me.
MarilynSanAntone@140; that was BlueTex being sarcastic. He might should have wrapped that phrase in quotes, but I guarantee you it’s not his; it belongs to Limbaugh, Coulter, and their ilk; lock, stock, and barrel.
And, if the “candidate slamming” is accurately pointing out the facts about the candidates, particularly, if there are links to them speaking the words that give us a true picture of their ideas and feelings about such important issues as the war, then it can only help us get the RIGHT nominee.
I wouldn’t be so quick to assume our military people have been dunned down.
Whether you like Ron Paul or not, he is the only candidate who is flat-out against the war and wants to bring our troops home ASAP. Our military personnel donate more money to him than any other candidate, so what does that say about their intelligence? It sounds like, when they let their money do the talking, they’re smarter than the average American.
Just an observation.
Having carefully read the post, it appears (darkly thru a mirror) that the author was reacting to an article written by the retired colonel. However, the adjective ‘cut and run Hilery’ was offered by Blue Texan. My reaction was why slam, even in satire, one of our candidates? Not trying to nit pick, just saying…
To expose the level of idiocy and hatred from the right. I’ve written “Barack Osama” before for the same reason. Obviously I don’t think the troops are “ignorant of the issues” either.
Perhaps the soldiers would like to ponder how many tours McCain’s “100 years in Iraq” implies for them? How are their families going to feel about that?
And that overthrow from within would be the only way to overthrow the U.S. government. And they would be doing it because they “hate our freedoms”. Damn freedom interferes with their power. It used to be hard to believe that traitors are in our government. Not any more.
Regarding the “intelligence” of our troops in Iraq. We all know the lower-ranks are at the bottom of the slope, and there’s that old saying about “shit flows downhill”.
Where the change in attitude and “intelligence” will come from is from that portion of our military commanders—our ACTIVE DUTY military commmanders—which is sick of being used to cover george bush and the republican’s asses for their monumental fuckup.
There are a LOT Of them.
And the quickest way to get them to speak out, is by nominating a candidate, and Commander-In-Chief-to-be, who does not have one iota of political capital invested in keeping this fucking mayhem-opera going, to try to cover a vote for it, and to try to cover a refusal to admit what a bloody, cynical, mistake it was.
And that candidate, if anyone is in doubt, is Barack Obama.
In the last Congressional race a very interesting woman candidate challenged the Repub Rep. She did not win, but she got good attention; she is so credible. Will be very interesting if there is a more successful challenge coming up.
The local coverage about Paul is that he has so turned off much of his district that he may not succeed in his reelection. They don’t like all that get the troops out talk. According to one speaker, he has been pretty far removed in recent years, so much of his stance is new to the home folks.
If HRC wants to be taken seriously she needs for Bubba to shut up, he
is yesterday’s news and has done enough damage already, but he keeps
cruising around explaining it all for us like we need his help with HRC
and her candidacy… for me he is the proverbial turd in the punchbowl.
