It’s so lame, dated and harmless. It’s almost kind of cute:
Grover Norquist, an influential conservative tax reform lobbyist, said: “Barack Obama has been able to create his own image and introduce himself to voters, but the swing voters in a general election are not paying attention yet. He is open to being defined as a leftwing, corrupt Chicago politician.”
…
Newt Gingrich, the former Speaker of the House and Republican guru, recently described Obama as the “most leftwing candidate to run since George McGovern” – a reference to the anti-Vietnam-war Democrat who lost 49 states out of 50 to Richard Nixon in the 1972 election.
OMG, Obama’s leftwing! He’s a socialist!!!!!
McGOVERN!!!11!!!!
So pathetic.
The days when the GOP brand was strong enough that all a wingnut had to do is scream "McGovern!" are over. Now the game-changing name is "Bush."
And do these two dinosaurs even realize they’re playing right into Obama’s hands with this kind of "left/right" partisan attack? It’s almost as though they’re totally ignorant of the 2006 midterms and America’s strong preference for Democrats.
I think it’s going to take the Repubs losing another 2, maybe 3 elections before they realize just how much damage Bush/Cheney has done to their party.

It’s not really ankle biting. It’s more like having your neighbor’s tiny, terrified lap dog pee on your ankle…
OOOH, I got a zed!
[tap, tap, tap] Is this thing on?
Yep, I hear ya loud and clear! Congrats!
Blue Texan, How does Texas look for Obama?
yes. it is on. i just told ron your lap dog pee comment. Priceless.
BT, you’re up awful late! Nice post!
Howdy, Blue Texan…
a tale full of sound and fury, told by an idiot, signifying nothing.
they are a joke.
Do you think this is because they are stubborn or stupid? Or because the American people are unaware?
LOL and happy zed!
He has clearly been one of the most Liberal in the Senate, according to his voting record. Didn’t people realize this?
Isn’t he being a hypocrite for voting Liberal and orating Middle-of-the-road?
Gee John Edwards was raked over the coals for being from a Conservative state and governing that way before orating as a Progressive in the mold of Teddy Roosevelt.
Why hasn’t anyone called Obama on his ‘hypocrisy’?
What I’d like to know is how we are ever to have a Progressive Dem president if they have to come from a state where they were free to govern (governor, senator, etc.) as a Progressive? Which state exactly would produce such a person?
Now we have Obama campaigning as an Independent (or somesuch) and nobody seems to care because he gives great speech. Hmmm.
Wake up!
They’ve really got nothing left. They’re running on fumes.
Great post, as usual, Blue Texan! Hope you’re well?
Someone once asked “if you don’t believe in space aliens, how do you account for Newt?”
Still a good question and also applies to Grover. Why does anyone on this planet take either of them seriously? Boggles the mind.
FYI, Senator Clinton is speaking live on C-SPAN at the moment. Not sure how much longer the speech is.
Ahhh… do I sniff concern troll?
Yes.
And Newt is so accustomed to the fawning political media treating him as a “serious thinker” that he’s forgotten that he was the last person the Dems successfully made the subject of a national campaign. He still thinks he’s going to be taken seriously talking about Democrats.
First, from Norquist & Gingrich’s mouth to god’s ears–i wish obama was a socialist.
Next, hail to MarkH for making the most salient point of the evening.
That’s a good question.
Good on ya for your work today. I much prefer independent to conservative, these days.
You’ll have to tell us what You hear from the citizens regarding stubborn vs. stupid.
Oh. I see she’s decided to campaign in Wisconsin after all… It appeared for a while that she was going to just let it slide. Seeing as it’s Founder’s Day Gala I wonder if Obama will be up next… Does anyone know?
No. That’s how it’s done. Don’t like it much, but that is how it’s done.
They are stinky aren’t they.
Looks like they let the psycho pooches out to bite. Too bad their teeth fell out a long time ago.
a big daddy concern troll.
You’re wrong on two counts. First, that “most Liberal Senator” rating is not legitimate, and, more importantly, Obama is not running as a centrist independent. He is more subtly encouraging independents to vote for Democratic and progressive causes.
Hawaii, naturally! The most progressive congressional delegation since statehood, Inouye has been slipping of late, tho…!
I haven’t been feeling like doing much political blogging for some time now, but in light of Booman’s post about Harold Ickes, I finally wrote something for Buckeye State Blog about why I can’t vote for Hillary Clinton.
Don’t belittle the danger of the gooper machine. Just remember that they have almost total control of the media and that means that their sick message will be repeated and repeated over and over again FOR EIGHT MONTHS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Glad to see my sniffer still works!
I agree.
And, just this am, I was wondering out loud how the triumphant candidate, whomever it turns out to be, will change once they’ve won the job.
Certainly, with the confidence of the win, and the power of the job, do you think they might tone down?
I remember not long after the Iraq invasion started, Norquist debated Richard Dreyfus in London. The debate was over whether the invasion was justified. Dreyfus mopped the floor with him. The funny part, though, is that Dreyfus was either drunk on his ass or pretending to be. Anyone else remember seeing that?
Grover Norquist, incidentally, is way high on my list of really despicable persons.
This country will not recover from what Bush has wrought in my lifetime. And McCain represents more of the same. Norquist wasn’t just trying to starve the government. He was robbing our children. That is, he and the Republican Party, starting with Governor Ronald Reagan, have been stealing from our children. They have been trying there best to kill public education. And in that gross endeavor, these horrible people have largly succeeded.
Shall I tell my Newt story again? OK
Here is the story:
“When congressman Newt Gingrich was a graduate student at Tulane University I baptized him by immersion into the membership of the St.Charles Avenue Baptist Church. Perhaps I didn’t hold him under long enough.” Rev. G. Avery Lee
I grew up at St. Charles Ave. Baptist Church. Dr. Lee married my first husband and I. My husband went to Tulane, was the same age as Newt so might have known him.
Dr. Lee is the coolest southern baptist I know.
Good to see you again, Renee! Have you been sick? What have you been up to?
Gosh, it’s good to see you again! I’ve missed your comments. Hope you’re doing well.
Newtie is a disgraceful hypocrite. Why anyone pays attention to this awful man is way beyond me.
That should read:
my first husband and me
I think it’s going to take the Repubs losing another 2, maybe 3 elections before they realize just how much damage Bush/Cheney has done to their party.
It’s sure taking the Democrats a long time to realize what the DLC-style politics have done to them. Nothing is more unlearnable than behavior that’s a product of partial reinforcement.
{{{mary}}} LOL
George the cowardly liberal
He volunteered for the United States Army Air Forces during World War II and served as a B-24 Liberator bomber pilot in the Fifteenth Air Force, flying 35 missions over enemy territory from bases in North Africa and later Italy, often against heavy anti-aircraft artillery. McGovern was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for saving his crew by crash landing his damaged bomber on a small Mediterranean island. McGovern’s wartime service is at the center of Stephen E. Ambrose’s book The Wild Blue [2], which the author dedicated to McGovern’s wife Eleanor.
Since Bush and his conservative policies have set the bar SO low, I don’t see how they can demonize liberal policies with their alternative.
I’m a Baptolic. That is, I was baptised into the Catholic faith (my mother) and the First Southern Baptist Church of Rancho Cordova (my father). My lady tells me I am a half breed. Which I am. My experience is that there are an awful lot of very good people of faith.
Like Bill Moyers.
And Kiddo and Lahoma.
Who cares about facts….Thugs think Ronnie flew Hellcats.
That’s the million dollar question, isn’t it?
She is still live on CSpan giving a remarkable speech before the Dmocratic Party of Wisconsin. Calling Obama a friend, a good man “with the wrong ideas. She is subdued and serious and must note considerably more compelling. Big applaud line for her declaring she is the only candidate who can get the job done. Hope & trust Bill is gagged and bound somewhere so he can’t sabotage her any further. “Women’s rights are human rights” -
Seeing as it’s Founder’s Day Gala I wonder if Obama will be up next… Does anyone know?
According to C-Span’s listing, Obama will speak as well. I don’t think he has spoken yet, but I’m not sure. If I was Hillary, I wouldn’t want to speak after Obama. :)
AP – Sen. John McCain, the presumed Republican presidential nominee, picked up a total of 50 GOP national convention delegates from Michigan and Louisiana Saturday.
McCain is readying the nasty anti-Obama machine.
Obama liberal??? He isn’t liberal enough..his Senate voting record put him in about the middle of the Dem Senators.
In the movies he did…! ;-)
Yea and the Nam was “the wrong war at the wrong time” for that punk ass motherfucker Newt.
Well, he was married to Nancy after all (ducking)
Ding!
707!
While “Dead-eye Dick” had “other priorities”
FOFLOL!
LOL!
Hi npb!
That is some blue suit!
Yes. Why is he always labeled the most Liberal??? I suspect the scardy cats.
Thank you thank you. I’ll be here all weekend. Try the veal, it’s excellent…
Wasn’t he banging Nancy while Jane was having their baby? Or so the story goes.
I found this cartoon amusing.
But I love the 3 Stooges, so…
Uh, compliments of Valley Girl…
Hi Renee Nice to see you. Ill go read your blog.
Hmmm… Dolly’s 9 to 5, now BTO’s Taking care of Business, I detect a theme…!
With the extreme polarization of the Parties, the “L” word is unlikely to shift many votes.
Hi Marion and Ann and anyone I might have missed. I’ve been all right–just always busy with enough things that I don’t have a lot of time for writing. And only occasionally do I have the focus, although I’m making an effort to create the conditions for focus. Plus, the rough and tumble of the primary battle was a bit much for me, so I spent a lot less time on blogs. Explained a bit of that here.
Life moves too fast. Son in Ohio is starting high school next year. :0
C-span announcer says Obama should be up in a bit.
I just wish I’d found this cartoon much much earlier. A picture (cartoon) is worth a thousand words. Uh, the general idea being that Bush has his head up his ass. In case anyone needs the explanation.
Obama about to speak in Wisconsin on C-SPAN.
Reagan’s wiki has Ronnie and Jane divorcing in June of ‘48 and him meeting Nancy in ‘49. FWIW
Why is he always labeled the most Liberal?
Media Matters has commented on this dubious rating from National Journal.
http://mediamatters.org/items/200802110005?f=h_top
Hillary received a good but hardly wild ovation and the audience seem to be awaiting another speaker, or maybe just milling around. CSpan still has live footage – and a fellow is at the podium but not speaking – but appears he will speak. Attendees paid $150 and event is sold out. Apparently they are awaiting Sen. Clinton leaving the auditorium before Sen. Obama is introduced.
Glad you’re well. The “rough and tumble” of the primary season has taken a toll on most of us! Congrats on the boy child starting high school… (I’ll bet it feels like he was in diapers last week!)
I voted for George McGovern. I have no regrets. It is apparent my friend, that you respect Mr. McGovern as do we in this house. George McGovern: no one have I better seen. Hope you are having a great evening.
Lahoma and okk.
Renee, aren’t you Cafe Press?
I felt that some of her “guaranteed applause lines” were falling flat, and that it was mostly “polite golf claps” until Obama showed up. Either that or the entire room is made up of people from Lake Woebegone, who just never make a fuss about anything.
I respect him greatly. That was the first presidential I could vote in, 3 years after I came home.
poor Obama
and newtie says
too bad they can’t call him an INCOMPETENT WAR CRIMINAL REPUGLITARD too
about the only thing worse that left wing corrupt Chicago politician is a greedy incompetent corrupt war criminal repuglitard
oh yeah, somebody remind me again, which candidate was photographed humping george bush’s leg
and remind me again, while all those people were dying in New Orleans, who was george bush singing happy birthday with again ???
and who is the candidate that wants to continue a war that 70% of Americans want ended NOW ???
kinda rough when your candidate makes a “left wing corrupt Chicago politician” look like America’s savior
how bad does a political party have to fuck up to do that favor for the opposition ???
newtie and dobson know how bad they would have to be to do that
wanna bet they’d trade places with us in a heart beat ???
I guess I knew you from the DNC blog but i have always liked your writing.
Hillary still shaking hands with the WI Democrats so guess Obama will follow any minute. Wes Clark thanking the audience for being there.
We in this home will vote for Senator Clinton if she is the nominee. We will vote for Senator Obama if he is the nominee.
We in this house will do exactly what you in your house are planning on doing.
Thanks, went to see Juno tonight and loved it after seeing Little Big Man for the first time in 30+ years last night. My heart soars like a hawk.
In this house we will work a little harder so that we dont have to vote for HRC in the election
Oh, ouch. Gov. of Wisconsin just thanked Hillary for her presence and service and was greeted with almost silence…
Wisconsin Gov. Doyle just announced this event set a record number of donations. Mild applause following Gov’s thanks to Hillary for being there. Looks like another great Obama audience welcome is in the air.
Naughty Newtie. The man who served his ex-wife divorce papers while she was in the hospital. Mr. Newtie Moral Majority Gingrich. Take a look at this man’s life. If you can stand it.
WI only has 74 delegates. Isn’t that one of the insignificant states that Mark Penn (Clinton advisor) mentioned by implication recently?
Also, it means something when the Governor introduces you. I wonder who introduced Hillary?
Yep – right on the money VG as always.
I was in ROTC in college in ‘72 while I was also a McGovern delegate. The active duty types in charge of the ROTC dept and most of my fellow cadets did not like my choices.
I do recall telling a couple of them they could go p*ss up a rope. Politely of course.
Not on a full stomach, thank you. Well, come to think of it, it’s hard to handle on an empty stomach too…
Chuckee Cheese Head
nobody can resist a fat clown
Dopes!
Hello Marion.
L.
When Doyle mentioned that he’s looking forward to ‘change’, that received a rousing cheer, I think Obama’s the star attraction! ;-)
Hello, Lahoma. It’s always a pleasure to “see” you and Kiddo.
According to the national Journal Obama is the most Liberal… …just like Kerry was the “most liberal” in 2004. See a pattern?
If you ACTUALLY look at the votes, Obama ties with Biden for the 10th most liberal Senator.
Oh, OUCH. Gov. of Wisconsin calling out Hillary on “picking and choosing” the states she’ll campaign in…
No question Obama is awaiting a rock star ovation – that is if the Govenor of Wisconsin ever introduces him. (grin)
He is deeply honored – he is one of the very best.
Well, I guess we know who the room in Wisconsin is voting for!!
Dayum — Obama is getting more applause on “thank you” than Hillary did on her best lines…
They can’t very well call Hillary a liberal.
Dopes!
Marion is Sen. Feingold present – I didn’t see him earlier?
Don’t know. I tuned in during the middle of Hillary’s speech, so I’ve missed a lot.
They already do.
Look at how many new young democrats we have. Thanks to Obama, thanks to Clinton, actually thanks for the FUs in the Bush administration.
Hurray for the new, young democrats! Hurray for all of the candidates willing to fight against
No..They call her a Socialist.
oops, they are wrong IMHO
Lahoma and I are settled and snuggled under a comforter on the couch on this very cold night watching Sen. Obama. I fixed homemade cinnamon rolls and Swiss Miss with marshmellows.
Every time I hear Obama speak I feel a little happier with him. He seems to “get it” that change starts with you and me.
I have never like political speeches but I like to hear Obama. He is as comfortable with his silences as he is with his words.
Marion is Sen. Feingold present – I didn’t see him earlier?
The C-span listing has him listed, but I haven’t seen him. I haven’t seen every speaker.
Church
Obama is doing the job.
MMMM… Yummy! If you’ll share that I’ll share tomorrow breakfast with you. I cut the first asparagus spears out of the patch this evening and I’m planning on asparagus omelets for breakfast. Sound good?
Maybe, but more likely just a great orator.
I’ll bet that during his inauguration address he asks us to do something for the country other than shop.
Both me thinks
Truth has no relation to what they say. It’s all BS, they only care about whether it works or not.
Obama appears fatiqued – as did Hillary earlier – course it is past 10 PM in that time zone. Both impress and give me hope.
Obama is the first high-level politician that makes me laugh out loud. In a good way. Bush does that, but in a bad way. :)
Obama is saying that he hoped he would be related to somebody cool. Not Cheney!
I like the way he handled his friend Hillary.
“Sound good?” Oh yes!
You got it!
God bless him, he surely does know how to modulate his voice…
I am getting a little tired of the ‘My cousin, Dick Cheney’ routine…!
Obama’s good. Really good. My first choice is Hillary.
Yes. In our home we are going to continue to focus our eyes on the prize next November. The White House.
Lahoma and I like reading your stuff.
Well, it’s a guaranteed laugh line and segue…
yeah, and hi all you pup dobbies. Obama needs a speech writer. he NEEDS to stop recycling the same one. anyone who even cares 1/2 a whit has heard that at least once.
I am really HOPING he gets into civil liberties restoration, how he’s going to repair the damage Bu$hCo has wrought.
think it’s going to take the Repubs losing another 2, maybe 3 elections before they realize just how much damage Bush/Cheney has done to their party.
this kind of thinking is pretty dangerous. right now, the republicans have the democratic president set-up to take a lot of hits from the bush/cheney wreckage including:
- Iraq. Iraq is a disaster no matter what, but any troop reductions under a democratic president and the howling how the democrats lost Iraq will be good for at least 20 years.
- terrorist attack. Anything that happens under a democratic president will be specifically because democrats didn’t follow the bush/cheney authoritarian, totalitarian dictatorship lead and instead were “soft” on terrorism.
- the economy. even though the economy is in the tank anyway for a long time no matter what anyone does, if democrats manage to ram through healthcare reform it will be the cause of a bad ecomony. Same ole same ole if bush’s tax cuts for the wealthy are not extended, that will be the cause of the poor economy.
not saying any of this is true or can’t be counteracted. Just saying to count the republican slime and smear machine out is foolish. For one thing, they still control US corporate media, and there doesn’t seem to be any democrats with any initiative to do anything about it. So corporate media will continue to poison the political air and foment republican lies and smears while smearing democrats and portraying them as weak American-hating girly men. The cult of republicanism will make Clinton era seem like a love-fest compared to the viciousness of their attacks on the next democratic presidency.
.
Lahoma and I say hi.
okk.
Hillary is pre-Swiftboated. There’s nothing bad they can say about her that hasn’t already been said. Endlessly. Big plus there.
Kids-only health plan is tepid and centrist.
Universal coverage is where Hillary started out long ago, and what she’s still aiming for. Gotta love her consistency and strength in the face of huge obstacles.
Moi, I’ll take the sharp progressive Wonkette, thanks.
“Obama needs a speech writer. ” I thought he had Sorensen, a Kennedy speechwriter. No?
But, the recent comments by Penn and Wolfson have done her no good at all. As a friend of mine said “total arrogance”. And, like it or not, those comments have some sticking power as to “arrogance”.
he NEEDS to stop recycling the same one
No. This is how it works. They can’t rewrite a speech every time just because a super tiny politically-geeky audience out there (that’s us) watches all the speeches.
Not everyone is like us, seeing speeches and being riveted to our sets on Primary nights…
We are such Geeks!
It’s Saturday night, and we’re blogging while watching C-Span…
Welcome to the Lake!
I respect your choice, however where I live and work there are Republicans and independents AND DEMOCRATS who flat out refuse to vote for her. The same folks, including the Republicans and independents, will vote for Obama.
Did I mention that I’ll be caucusing for him on Tuesday, here in the Isles, alongside the Wisconsinites…! I’ll relate my experience if ya’ll are interested later…
Email from a friend in Oregon
“Obama needs a speech writer” is spot on. He remarked on his superior health care plan compared by inference to President Clinton’s Hillary effort. That line is getting very stale if not disengenuous. sp?
I really never want to hear “ready on day one” again.
Please do — we love on the ground reports!
Couldn’t the democrats give up the republican-type backdrops at least????
Wow. That smacks of flop sweat…
“A child on an Indian reservation”. Obama likes teachers. Obama is speaking to us in this house. Good Lord this man knows my wife and me. And we’ll probably never meet him.
I whole heartedly concur, even McCain is using it…!
The GF said she would never vote for Hillary..until last week when she was in a store and heard a wing-nut misogynist anti-Hillary rant. She asked the store owner if he listened to that radio station..he said yes..she re-shelved her items and walked out. She is now a Hillary supporter.
Hillary is pre-Swiftboated. There’s nothing bad they can say about her that hasn’t already been said.
Yeah, she comes with pre-very-high-negatives-that-will-never-go-down.
Universal coverage is where Hillary started out long ago, and what she’s still aiming for.
In the 90s, she did the DLC-thing and bailed at the first sign of resistance, and never returned to the fight for the remainder of the Clinton term. I’d expect more of the same from her Presidency.
She was my third choice. Obama was my second. So I’m going with the new guy. And since I apparently live in a “significant” state according the Mark Penn, my primary vote will count.
Heh, by the time it’s over it’ll be two or three am your time! ;-)
My friend on the Lakota rez is a stone anarchist, but if he were to vote he’d vote for Obama. (He confessed he might even register and vote…)
He has a speech writer..he is a 26(?)yo man..IIRC the NYT did a story on him.
I can read when I get up at around 5:30!
I’m crying watching Obama. I so much wish a president of ours would do what he’s saying he’ll do. I’m crying because I don’t really trust him, but I badly want a president who really will be for the people.
I’ll be at my precinct caucus here in Austin on March 4. Still don’t know whom I’m voting for.
Hillary supported NAFTA but denys it now.
Obama is closing the deal.
Your heart will tell you when it’s time. Trust it.
Hi guys! I like Obama, I love Hillary’s strength. (I think I’m a minority now.)
We desperately want to see Bobby in our candidates. No shame in that.
Not likely, but to be hoped for.
FWIW I share your conundrum. Current motto: trust but verify. ;~)
Will ya read it before the NY Times…? 8-)
Possibly, but no guarantee there!
OMG! Obama said if he is elected, we will have a President that believes in the Constitution and will restore Habeas Corpus! All I can say is, OMG! I tell you, this man is playing possum. He is indeed from the south side of Chicago! Go, Barack!
No arguement at all. She is loyal beyond serving herself.
What’s the source on this?
Very interesting…
Deal, then! *g*
A huge missed opportunity for our country.
I very much respect you standing by Sen. Clinton. No BS. The Senator is a Democrat. ;0)
Obama channeling Lincoln and Roosevelt.
I felt Bobby in John Edwards… Oh well…
as a woman I wanted to like her but shes part of a machine, an old machine.
And I was delighted when my daughter who voted for Bush fell in love with Obama and what he stands for.
Just words…wow
Love him or not, he literally owns this crowd.
Lakota is Lahoma’s middle name. She is Cherokee.
Maher made a good point last night. Isn’t “Ready on Day One” WHAT WE EXPECT?????
I’m huge for Obama, but YEAH!, we need, expect and demand anyone in there is ready! or maybe they shouldn’t be running. no more learn as you go preznits!
Obama said he wants to make politics cool again and to help people believe in government again. That is a direct attack on the heart of the conservative philosophy. I approve.
Obama understands hope.
I respect your choice, but have you noticed that everytime Hillary gives a speech these days, she is saying what Obama said a month before. Her new mantra is “yes we will.” It is getting embarrassing for her. And, Bill is at it again. This time he is distorting Obamas health care plan.
Hey to you both!
Obama has once again mentioned Indian reservations. Good God. My lady and I are excited and pleased.
He has a speech writer. Probably several.
Actively sobbing now.
Obama: “John Kennedy didn’t look up at the moon and say, ‘That’s too far.’”
Ha!
The dangers you point out are real. But the Republican tripod (”security”, “fiscal” and “values” conservatives) has fractured, probably irretrievably. Within the next 10 years, we will have a huge realignment, and it’s likely that neither party will resemble today’s parties.
The later Roosevelt I trust. ;~) I owe you a debt of thanks Loo Hoo. Until I read your comments on Hillary I was caught up in the Obama excitement – and grieving Edwards withdrawal from the race.
Bobby was a lot tougher..I suspect that Bobby was keeping the JFK Presidency on the rails..At the time we really didn’t know how medically impaired JFK was.
well, i wish he’d let rip with some new ones! His SC Victory Speech was really used.
Our country is so hurt and divided and sad, Some one is lifting us up so we can change things ourselves. Obama
My friend is Sioux, but didn’t learn that until he was in his 30s. He’d been adopted, by wonderful people but not Sioux. He’s been learning where he came from for a while now, and is becoming fluent in the language and customs. You and Lakota would like him.
yeah and Bu$h looked up at Mars and said “thet ain’t alll THET fur. We’all otter go thar!!!”
That’s what happened in NH.
Signed, Sealed and Delivered?
Signed sealed delivered!
Agreed. She has screwed up on her advisors. This does not mean that Hillary has not been working for regular Americans (and the Constitution) for her entire career.
I don’t expect her to win at this point, but I still support her. SO SMART.
Well, I recall that he was in Texas visiting Connolly to mend fences and fend off a possible primary challenge. He wasn’t all that strong a president…
The coming financial collapse will likely force the realignment much sooner. The odds are that it will not be toward a more liberal society.
I want the T-shirt, bumper sticker and coffee mug that says “I am a Hope Monger”.
Wow. Just wow. What a speech!
I’d love to see her in Reids place.
Well, my coach is turning into a pumpkin so I’ll bid you all adieu. Sleep well and warm and happy, pups.
Yes, I think so. Don’t see how Hillary can overcome that. Great speech.
I also respect the HRC supporters here, and will vote for her if she gets the nomination.
But if all of her “experience” led to her Iraq vote, is it really all that valuable?
I suspect that vote was one of political expediency, not leadership, exactly what we don’t need more of. On top of that, she hasn’t “come correct” on this point yet.
That’s what I see as the major difference between her and Obama.
Good for her! Hallelujah (as it were).
Now THAT’S an idea!!! I’ll bet she’d be great. Now I’m really heading off…
I’d like to see Feingold in Reid’s place, and Sheldon Whitehouse take over the Justice Department.
That is my memory but Jackie and Teddy White re-wrote the “play”.
Now that would be brilliant.
I disagree. BushCo has decided the middle class doesn’t matter. If he wanted to preserve a plutocrarcy, he would be bribing the middle class to be a buffer against the angry masses. Instead, he’s made them part of the angry masses.
Did you ask about Fiengold? He spoke before Hillary was introducted by the Lt. Gov.
Obama gave another great speech. I am an Obama Girl.
You may be right….I don’t know. But, I’m one of those people that desperately needs to believe it’s not too late for this country. I need to believe that we can return to our former glory. Morally, economically and politically. I want the country to be for my children what it was for me.
John Edwards would be a dynamite AG.
or better…more better.
This mama’s
votin’ Obama.
I’d like to see Dodd in Reid’s place and Whitehouse as AG, I like Feingold right where he is…!
Probably can’t do all three.
Whitehouse needs to stay put as well.
Have you seen him on his FISA amendment?
Stellar.
I am not sure where you disagree..financial collapse? Not a liberal society? I don’t think the outcome will be “liberal-new deal”. The plutocracy will be toast as a result of “American Populism” with some of the good and a lot of the bad that that implies.
I’m still waiting for a Sen. Clinton supporter here to explain how all of her experience led to the Iraq war vote.
Anyone?
(serious question; not looking to start a fight.)
The republics are too stupid to understand and or admit what they have allowed Bush to do to their party, the entire country and world to a large extent. Bush truly is the worst ever.
Those would be EXCELLENT choices too! In MY perfect world, President Obama dismantles Homeland Security, rebuilds it and CALLS IT SOMETHING DIFFERENT, and within that new department, is a whole other department dedicated to getting to the bottom of the last 8 years (investigations and indictments), and another branch whose sole purpose is to restore the Constitution and Bill of Rights, and I’d like to see Dodd head THAT branch!
I haven’t given up either..I am sending money to ~20 progressive challengers..but if it is not too late..it is going to be damn close.
I wouldn’t be so quick to praise him on FISA, he voted yea of final passage of the Senate atrocity…!
Thers is in the house…
come on up!
I know I’m sticking my neck out here.
Read his amendment, though.
Yeppers.
Goodnight to each and every one of you. Kiddo has already gone upstairs to bed. And I shall be there with him soon.

Still waiting for Grover Norquist to slip on a bar of soap in the tub and drown.
I would not shirk the power of Gnewt and Grover off. Grover is responsible for attacks on Bill and Hillary in the 90s (Whitewater, Paula Jones etc.)
as well as the Bush Tax Cuts!
I recently saw Gnewt tell the NRA that the Democrats would like to get rid of the Department of Defense. At the end of the speech the audiance gave him a standing ovation. The NRA has tens of millions of members.
And for those who say that Obama should get a new speech writer…in fact it is possible that he might not have gotten Caroline Kennedy to back him…because Obama has Ted Sorenson (Kennedy’d speech writer…as in “ask not what your country can do..”) on his team.
Having seen Obama give about 20 speeches, I say go Hillary!
I am delighted that our choice is between Obama and Clinton! Sweet.
The secret to maintaining plutocratic control is to carefully control how much of the middle class can “make it”, and thus back your goals. Howard Zinn does a great job showing how this worked in the Revolution in his books. You have to keep enough of the middle class thinking the threat comes from below. If they realize the real threat comes from above, the plutocracy is toast.
Some historian (Rick Perlstein, maybe?) has posited that after the New Deal, the money elites were so desparate for help that they opened the gates to the neuveau riche. These are people who are so deluded, they think they deserve to be rich, so they forget you have to throw peanuts to the crowd. They have lost control. Poor rich assholes.
That’s right; a corrupt, leftwing, Chicago politician that beat ALL OF THE REPUBLICANS running in red-state Virginia by 136,000 votes.
Folks, the RNC is shitting their pants at the prospect of John McCain running against Barack Obama. :o)
There is nothing that Bush has done that the Republicans did not support.
While the Democrats believe in working for the greater good as a way of achieving a more perfect union, through SMART government.
The Republicans equate this with Communist Central Planning (”The Nanny State”). They are looting the Treasury of the United States with Tax Cuts that 30% went to 130,000 people.
Every tragedy we experience today has been predictable and a torture to watch unfold, at the hands of Republican Ideology.
They hate the Government of the United States, and by their governance of it its shows. For decades they have been trying to get rid of the Agencies Americans pay to protect their interests: FEMA, EPA, Army Corp of Engineers, Consumer Product Safety, Army Corp of Engineers, Department of Education etc. etc. etc.
They pushed out thousands of NonPartisan Civil servents (SUCH AS CONTRACT NEGOTIATORS), replaced them with thousands of Brownies, and people who oppose a woman’s right to choose…And brought in Republican Fundraisers effectively turning them into Central Headquarters for the Republican Party.
They thrive on an igrnorant electorate and have been trashing the teachers of our children for decades. They use PR slogans to deceive and GWB hired 450 PR people since 2001.
They divided us when we needed to be strong and United, in order to garner votes. Veteran against Veteran, Catholic against Catholic, African Americans and Christians against Lesbians and Gays. State against State, the not to bright or ill informed against the knowledgable. And on the day after the 2004 election tried out the idea that fat people should pay more on planes because they “use more fuel.”
They have a warped sense of what Pro-business means. As they destroy the American Middle Class (begun by Reagan) they are actually destroying the LARGEST CUSTOMER OF THE CAPITALIST WORLD. So apparently they are more PRO-Republican CEOs than pro- business. And the Depression came about during a Republican administration.
In insurance they have tried to eliminate “SHARED RISK” by eliminating the people who most need it and only covering the ones who don’t.
Their 1100 Think Tanks have replaced Rational Thinking with rationalization for their looting.
Their Prescription Drug bill that does not allow the Federal Government to negotiate VOLUME DISCOUNTS. This is something that Walmart does every day of the week, and basic principle of Capitalism. Yet their PR people have been calling it: “Price Fixing”
As for this “free Market” business. It is the so called free market that got us the current Mortgage Crisis (Where they did not want Mortage companies to be regulated like the banks).
As far as Unifying our country. Bill Clinton had a Republican in his cabinet. And while Republicans claim to be for smaller government, under Clinton we had the beginging of not only smalled BUT SMART GOVERNMENT.
And he ballanced the budget by combing it LINE ITEM BY LINE ITEM: Asking “If I cut this who will it impact, go find out.”
Meanwhile of the 9+ Trillion we are in debt since George Washington, 70% of it has been under Reagan, Bush1 and Bush2…which tax payers are spending as significant amount of their taxes TO PAY THE INTEREST ON THAT DEBT.
The sooner this rubbish comes out the better, so we see how Obama deals with it.
I don’t know why anyone would listen to or give publicity to either Norquist or Gingrich, deeply evil slugs that they are, but Barack Obama is a lame, empty candidate on face value and quite possibly a corporatist below the surface. He has ducked important votes in the Senate and gives pep rally speeches. That’s little to like.
