Itches can be tough to figure out in a dog; and they aren’t always that easy in humans. There are a lot of people with intense itching where no lesion can ever be seen and some dermatologists have spent their careers researching the inflamatory response–I know one of them.

I’m sure sorry about the bulging disk–I have a Basset and they have long backs and can have back pain not infrequently–a substantial amount may be due to disk disease.

Mine had pain several months ago that made it painful for him to walk and he stopped jumping (he likes to jump on walls all the time when we walk, and is good at it with those huge hips and shoulders. I used some Remadyl my neighbor gave me, although I had tons of Ansaids around of all types, and it seemed to help him. He got better before I could work him up, and I thought he had torn a back muscle or had a severe sprain. It could well have been disk impinging on nerve root–I hope it wasn’t. It hasn’t come back since–I hope it was a muscle sprain that got better.

I wish you the best of luck with yours.

The Rimadyl is for the bulging disc that we discovered when she woke us up screaming in the middle of the night 2 week ago. The itch is weird, she really goes at it but she also will chew on rawhide and such for hours on end. The vet thinks allergies but I think it may be a combination. Like I said, if I hold her on my lap she falls asleep. Gamin me maybe?

If Dinovite is working well for you that’s good. We have a million dogs around here, and people are always coming up with remedies that work for them for itching.

In a person, I’d see Remadyl as just one more anti-inflamatory like the Motrin group and the 20 something other NSAIDS, (as many as there are teams in the NFL) and as long as they didn’t have an active ulcer, I wouldn’t hesitate to use it for intense itching–it’s a pretty safe glucocorticoid. Remadyl gets used by vets all the time as an ANSAID–it’s fairly expensive as well.

Prednisone worked well in my dog for itching the one time he got dermatitis from fleas until I got a quick handle on it using Advantix or if you prefer Frontline–pretty much the same although they both claim primacy.

The vet didn’t think of it, but I didn’t need a vet to figure out how to treat my dog. 99.9999999% of human medicines get on the market by being tested in dogs before they go through NDA’s to get to controlled hospital beds and then later to controlled patient trials in physician offices.

Whatever’s going on, I sure hope your dog(?) gets better.

say for something like intense itching from poison ivy tapered pred can

150K buys a lot of robocalls. I got about 8 Al Wynn calls on Saturday and Sunday, about twice as many as Donna Edwards calls. All of which suggests Al was worried. I did not get this kind of attention from my representative last election.
