Donna!
Wow, what a night!
me too.
Donna!
And Jane!
Obama’s bringing a movement that’s going to bring a lot more wins like Edwards’
We’ll finally be able to hold dems accountable.
hurrah! leaving my sickbed for a bit to check in, this makes me feel better *g* *ndfg goes back to coughing*
Looks like the fundraising letter I got from Donna today will come in handy after all!
(still a little apprehension….Wynn seems as slimy as they come and he’s got Steny helping out)
Top 10?
Anyone going to inform downstairs?!
FunnyD
Revdeb, YHM.
I got the same snail-mail. Handy.
Personally I like to think that Donna won this one. She’s been working really hard the last three years and I know the people working for her. They are seasoned activists working for an outstanding and incredibly motivated candidate.
feel better ndfg -
and I can’t think of anything else to say since the “Me too’s” have all been taken.
gimme a minute….
Donna to Wynn: I. Stomp. You. OUT!!!!!
OK. I’ve been undecided and what I decide doesn’t really matter because my state didn’t have a primary. But anyway, I decided tonight that i like BO better? Why did I decide that? I listened to BO & HRC. Damn, Obama’s good. But anyway, remember how people have been sayin’ they both been sucking up to Edwards for his endorsement? And when Edwards suspended his campaign he said he wants the candidates to talk about poverty and Hillary said john is a fighter who was so good talking about poverty? Hillary didn’t talk about poverty, did she? BO mentioned it. Hillary really is fulla shit. I’ll vote for her, though in what seems every day like a more unlikely event that she gets the nomination.
Bill Kristol on TDS. Jon in his element. No spoilers but worth watching.
Some night indeed!
Hi Jane!
Donna and Obama: a twofer…
I’m looking for the vote counts (not just the candidate percentages) to compare the number of dem voters vs repub voters. Not on the front page of any of the news websites. Anything being said on teevee?
True.. I don’t want to take anything away from her. I’ve been saying this whole primary season: It’s the Candidate Stupid… The citizenry is becoming more involved and knowledgeable. Incumbents aren’t as solid as they used to be.
I guess Donna winning (hopefilly) takes abit of the edge off the FISA debacle today. Which reminds me. I have to write Senator Spaceman and tell him he’s an asshole.
Hey there. You must be happy tonight, eh?
Crap! But thanks for the reminder. I’ll record the later one – and get, unfortunately, all of the sleazy commercials which come with the later recording..
Oh well, that’s why “fast forward’ was invented…
It’s a New Progressive Day… and a New American Majority
New math:
Great candidate + grass/net roots + Obama coattails = more and better Dems
I listened to a speech she gave tonight, and she did talk about poverty. Hillary and Obama both talked about it.
Hi…Saw your comment on earlier thread about MN FDLer meetup… Thanks!
Can Jon Stewart just go ahead and marry Bill Kristol?
I lost a lot of respect for him when he karate chopped Chris Matthews and he still has Kristol on for fawning talk and gentle proddings.
Kristol is one of the architects of mass death Mr. Stewar.

Bush Dogs OUT! Go Donna!
Now we need to take out the Senate DINOs who voted for telecom immunity w/ the RePuke National Security State today.
I think the commentators who believe it’s nearly over between Obama & SHillary are being overly optimistic, but I sure hope it pans out that way. (Speaking of the telecom immunity bill, I note Obama voted against, the Corporate SHillary was absent)
Beyond! Very impressive. (Thanks).
This is so cool. Finally, a candidate I gave money to is winning. Thanks for the report, Jane.
Yes, my small portion of wit, bestowed upon me by the gods and I am left with this: enjoy…..yahoo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNaKWXqXkhw
I hereby move that Noron be henceforth required to wear that black leather suit that she had on the other night.
As a member of the relatively small straight male contingent, – at least that would spare me the annoying effort to have to try to keep track of both of her eyes at the same time…
MSNBC Alert WGA reports writers’ strike is over.
And, Kristol on once again The Daily Show. He truly is sleazy smarmy scum….
thanks, actually i am feeling much better, but the cough remains, its a tickling annoyance. But having heard via the threads how sick some folk have been, i feel like i got off light.
woohoo! I hope this trend continues with Edwards. My 21-yr-old daughter & her best friends, all huge Obama supporters, don’t read political blogs (yet … i’m workin on ‘em *g* ) so they have listened with enthusiasm here in Minneapolis to my info on people like Donna Edwards. The ripples from the Lake spread wide …
Bitter sweet night in truth. Sad about FISA and all those GM employees, happy about Edwards, Obama, and the writers.
grrr edit
Yes, my small portion of wit, bestowed upon me by the gods has failed me, and I am left with this: enjoy…..yahoo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNaKWXqXkhw
got it up on the news ticker! woohoo!
707!
And correct!
Virginia (formerly a red state)
Dem Votes-over 950,000
Repub Votes-less than 500,000
speaking of $$ I wonder what happened to all of that walking around money that Wynn got hold of in the last few days?
Seems to be a long stall at 39% reporting to the AP/WaPo site.
I’m not popping any cork until it’s official. Wynn and Hoyer worry me.
that long stall reminds me of one up in WA state, teddy
I also have to pinch myself when I hear people like Obama speak about how we never should have gone into Iraq. I think the tide is turning on this too. Not so long ago, politicians couldn’t speak publicly in that way.
From the WaPo:
as I mentioned downstairs – Pat Buchanan’s hair is crazy tonight, which makes me wonder whether his brain is exploding from the inside-out…
Prairie Sunshine, Biodun & i’d like to have a Firepups meetup, it’d be great if you could make it down to twincities
tis just his inner ugly escaping again, jayt
I wonder if Pat Buchanan knows that Rachel is a lesbo-American.
If Donna pulls this out, I’m going to mail the results to Hoyer, Pelosi, Reid, and a few other Dems I don’t like at the moment.
Eevening, all.
IIRC, Plame is never off topic-
I got to go see Valerie Wilson tonight-she is in Tampa on a speaking tour. What an incredible, inspirational woman. Got to ask her a question and all. She was very gracious-and spoke very highly of FDL.
Speaking of pundits, what’s going on with JoeScar? He’s still on assignment? Is he off licking his wounds? Having a nervous breakdown? Anyone know?
?
like any true fundy, if he does, he knows it is a test from g*d because he knows, deep down inside, he is just the man to convert her but his marriage vows prevent him from doing so.
A:
She’s very open about it. How could he not know?
How does that Beach Boys song go again…the one CrazyTrain likes so much?
Obama bama bama…bama bama McCain.
Oh yea. That’s it.
Kewl, man!
Glad to hear she still regards FDL highly. Nice to know that SOME PEOPLE don’t toss the netroots aside when no longer needed (Darcy Burner, I’m talking to YOU!).
FunnyD
Oh CNN Election center has the vote totals. you have to click through to the results by state. There is a page for the state primary with both Rethug and Dem vote totals.

Than I stand corrected. I heard her speech but my 10 year old was asking me questions about the election non-stop. Thought it was great that he was asking. So I probably missed it. My bad. Hillary’s less fulla shit than I thought. Thanks for settin’ me straight on that Margot.
By now, Pat must have enormous professional respect for Rachel.
How and who she loves, probably not so much. He is Pat Buchanan, after all.
Keep this pair together. Great political teevee.
As a member of the relatively small straight male contingent,…
oops – forgot my soon-to-be-standard disclaimer: (in NUMBERS, goddammit!)
thank you – that is all.
Considering how bad he’s been at managing his country’s expenses, I’d guess it wasn’t spent very effectively.

Virginia is 99% reported Dems 970,000 to 482,000 Republican.
Currently it’s running about 272,000 Democrat to 100,000 Republican in Maryland. But a lot of precincts still out, and hard to know which are urban vs. rural vs. suburban.
In DC it was ridiculous 103,000 Democrats to 5100 Republicans.
Amen.
wn
they should require ‘em to establish quorem for these primaries… 5100 can’t be a representative of anything other than their obsolescence.
where was she at? Maybe I missed her here in the City Beautiful. maybe nobody comes to this dump.

Proud to say that I was one of those 970,000 Dems who hit the polling places today.
I am so loving that there have been more D’s voting than R’s voting this primary season. *based on memory
Good for you, LL.
Hope you’re staying warm.
FunnyD
McBush still needs to shore up the base so he’s gonna still keep beating the drums for the lunatic fringe.
He’s gotta keep telling people they are stupid if they want to pull out of Iraq.
Not the way to win that vaunted 70% of the electorate that doesn’t do Kool-Aid enemas.
Four more wars.

Thanks for playing, LL! *g*

Yeah, I came across Loudoun in my hunt through some of the sites reporting on the race. You did the Party proud! Was it chaos at your precinct? Any comments on the numbers of people?
Some bloggers mentioned such long lines and slow check ins that people left before voting. And I saw one report of a handicapped voter who couldn’t go down a ramp due to the crowd. Apparently things went slowly because they had to check to see if the person had voted absentee, or something.
Good Lord, she’s killing Wynn.
Phenomenal turnout tonight for Dems:
The math as of a few minutes ago, via CNN (w/o Ron Paul in the mix):
Virginia (99% reported):
Obama + Clinton = 962,159
McCain + Huck = 421,621
Maryland (38% reported):
O + C = 354, 345
Mc + H = 110,006
DC (98% reported):
O + C = 112,860
Mc + H = 4790
Percentage wise, that’s:
Virginia: ~ 69 % DEM turnout
Maryland ~ 76 % DEM
DC: ~ 96 % DEM
Good night.
Teddy ;-)
FunnyD, yes I’m all toasty here. Got everything done this morning so I didn’t have to navigate in the ice this afternoon and evening. Nasty out there!
This is great, Teddy.
Thank you!
it’s happenin’ again, suze. make it stop.
“Four more wars.”
Maybe IranShrub will oblige with some rhetorical antics or something. And of course we have the Khalid Mohamed show trial (um, sorry, illegal military commission) coming up…
SWEET!
I just got home, it’s nice to see some good news.
Sounds fun–let’s plan for when the weather’s better. ReneND would likely join in, too.
You are CORRECT, Madame! I think the only state where the Republicans polled more than Democrats was Utah….possibly Missouri.
Oh…and maybe (though I can’t really recall since they didn’t count for the Democrats Michigan and Florida).
No doubt this has been observed on earlier threads (that I haven’t had time to read yet), but one of the most hilarious contrasts I’ve ever seen is McCain (and his pallbearers) following the Obama festival of life. Even more hilarious was the MSM treatment of McCain’s appearance as if it was anything more than strikingly pathetic. A rousing and inspiring statement of hope and optimism followed by a weak and tinny voice saying ”hope is a platitude my friends.” Laughable. Laughable. Laughable. And in the best way possible.
Apparently, if I’ve heard it correctly, Obama won the white vote in VA – 50% to 49%.Which is a terribly annoying statistic, but – there it is…
I fervently hope that this statistic will soon be a non-story, and not reported… *s*
C’ape, matter of fact I was in and out of my polling station in about 5 minutes today. There was one person ahead of me, and one waiting behind me, while I was there. I was there in between the early morning and lunchtime rush periods; and I imagine it got busier as the day went on.
Noron sez Hillary has to win the remaining states by more than 60% to re-capture the pledged delegate lead.
good, Biodun & I wanted to include ReneND, i don’t know how to get in touch with her other than lurking in the threads. If you’re in touch with her, let her know. Ya, no blizzards works for me, you betcha.
G’nite all.
An odd day all in all. Intense!
Thank you!
Thank YOU Jane, Christy and FDL!
And looks like Obama alone beat all Repubs combined.
Chuck Todd developed that estimate earlier.
Per Markos, another Maryland Congressman may lose his primary, too: a GOP one, Wayne Gilcrest. That takes the retiring GOP House number to 30.
OK, report from the field, as it were:
My 17-year-old son just left my place after a visit (he lives with his mom a few blocks from me). He said all his friends’s parents are voting for Obama, including rightists who don’t even believe in gun control. His 19-year-old sister, a college sophomore, ditto.
(Disclosure: They’re both biracial and have tons of white friends and live in MN.)
He strongly thinks that Obama has this sown up for general…
It seemed like very complicated math for Noron.
heh. Noron refers to Pat Buchanan as “Pat Robertson” – twice.
Paging Dr. Freud once again, somebody just slipped….
Yes,and yes
BFL, listening to your 10-year-old is probably more important. My older son, age 25, likes Obama; I like Hillary (but Obama gave a wonderful speech tonight, and I like him too) and my younger son likes the Beatles. And Quentin Tarentino movies.
Nice work. I think I’ll spend my lunch hour tomorrow checking on the other states. This should be a topic for the pundits.
Donna up 59 to 37 percent with 51% reporting
Who doesn’t get this?
The message that “100 years” of war is better than “hope.”
duh.
Hey LL, Snowy and freezing rain here today, and of course, no voting until March. So glad to hear from you, and see you soon. Thanks for FB contact (I’m such a novice).
It’s getting past time for the MD-04 Democratic establishment to report their cheatin’ precincts to put Al over the top.
I’m starting to think I need to consider switching horses. You Obamakins seem to have so much more fun.
wtf? ‘they send us to washington to fight our real enemies’? did mccain just call the d’s the real enemy in the war on terrah?
Finally – some good news, this is where we need to do it – get better Dems in Congress in the first place.
McCain on tv again. Makes me sick. Makes me sad. I admired the old John McCain at least a little for things like McCain Feingold. That was then this is now. We have to beat this guy.
*waving and smiling at Chris*
Fantastic news!
Shitty weather here in jersey too, but staying up late to get some payback on today’s disappointments with FISA.
GO DONNA !
McBush’s speech is full of the same tired nebulous platitudes. “We are the makers of history; not the victims.”
He looks tepid.
I think the hard right is voting him out because he turned against the Bush/McBush Permanant Occupation and Great Patriotic War.
-G
Now for the police state incident of the day.
watching the clip of McCrazyTrain’s speech from earlier tonight – and none of the cadavers standing behind him have yet keeled over.
Oh well – guess I’m just gonna have to let that little hope go…
but hey – there are speeches yet to come – and hope springs eternal, eh?
just giving voice to their heartfelt belief that the real enemy is us, and our secret leader is named Bill, who’s in league with the forces of hades. Coultergeist has been articulating this view for years already.
You Obamakins
sounds like some kind of gerbil
Right. And behind him stands Warner, looking into the abyss and seeing Alfred E. Newman staring back.
Has anyone mentioned that John McBush has been in congress for 25 years and has been running for president for ten of those years?
-G
So they can call it for O with 0% in but can’t call the MD 04 with 51% in and a 22% lead.
Funny, that.
strange hearing it out of a candidate and not a talking head.
When McCain was young he thought ”all glory was self-glory.” (Message: Barack is rather uppity – my friends.)
Izzat that prick Zell Miller standing behind Crazy Train?
Nice! So just help me along, and I’ve found ndfg today too! Such a wonderful day for me. Sorry to all, but I love FDL and it makes me so happy.
I’m watching McCain too. Low energy in that bunch. They look like they lost.
Don’t get caught up in the details. The MSM doesn’t.
i thought the ghostly looking guy was warner.
“He looks tepid.”
Hey, when you’re 71 years old, it beats the alternative, which would be a good bit cooler, if we’re speaking about body temperature…
Yes – as these people have said before – they create reality.
The guy on the left corner of the screen looks a little like John Larroquette. I’ve seen more life in a crowd in the autopsy room at CSI Miami.
Kinda. I suspect that they didn’t do much exit polling on the MD-04 race. Nothing to see there.
RE: cadavers keeling over:
we should be very wary of the McCrazy VP pick.
Because if all the the bad things that COULD happen DO happen,
well you know what I mean.

OK,
I must turn my traitor tuner down a little.
McBush had the Virginia GOP Dead Man Walking Caucus behind him looking like a casting call for Dawn of the Dead. Retiring octogenarian and former Liz Taylor paramour, Sen. John Warner, retiring future liver recipient Congressman Tom Davis and rejected White Knight of the Old Dominion, Felix Macaca Allen.
Yeah, a real ebullient lot.

IT ISN’T SHOWING HERE BUT ON THE WAPO WEB SITE THERE IS A RED CHECK MARK IN FRONT OF DONNA’S NAME AS WINNER.
WaPo just called it for Donna
“President Lieberman”
Cujo!
-G
i thought the ghostly looking guy was warner.
yeah, that was Warner, doing his best cadaver imitation, but still refusing to keel over, darn him, which would have been so utterly perfect as the lingering image of the McCain campaign…
I can go to sleep now.
At least something big and good happened today.
Geriatrics “R” Us.
Donna the winner!
WOOHOO!!!!!
RevDeb channeling Norske :-)
Great News!
So much for my Al Wynn snow drift theory. Hurray for Donna.
Hurrah for Donna!
Clinton has to win 56% of the remaining electable delegates from here on out–and I don’t see her doing it given the amount of time for momentum and Obama to campaign. I know Mark Penn and the financial co-chairs of her campaign say that momentum voting is not taking place but you sure could have fooled me. If she doesn’t I don’t see her co-opting enough Super delegates to pull it out.
did you see the incredible contrast between the OB speech tonite and the McCain one?
dead man talking. It was gruesome.
can we do the election right now, and not wait for the fourth quarter?
Great news.
Another Republican hack swirls the bowl.
AARGH!
you’ve spoken the unspeakable.
commented the uncommentable?
that would really suck.
Ok foxman, but for now, let’s dance!
Snoopy dance
Hurray Donna Edwards !!
we should be very wary of the McCrazy VP pick.
Absolutely – and I’ve been meaning to bring that up.
At the moment, I’m tired, and hangin’ on by a thinly caffeinated thread – is there any respectably informed commentary/predictions as to who that Veep choice might be?
Venezuela to ExxonMobil.
Suck it.

wapoo article:
Md. Challenger Edwards Wins Stunning Victory Over Long-Time Incumbent Wynn
McCain and the whole bunch behind him all looked like they got very bad news just before coming out. Maybe they were told that the country is turning against the repubs big time. They all seemed depressed instead of in a celebratory mood.
And, with that check mark, I’m saying goodnight.
same wa poo article:

Rick “Good-Hair (Thanks Molly)” Perry, Gooper Gov. of Texas.
Pumpkin-head is talking about “white guys with guns and boats”- the new “soccer moms.”
the ones I’ve heard mentioned scare me, though they all seem implausible:
Rice, Lieberman, Jeb Bush
I saw her on either NOW or Bill Moyers, I’m not sure, but she was impressive and much shaper than Wynn. I think the turnout for Obama from across the nation will help bring us a lot of great new progressives.
Rumors are Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota or Mark Sanford of SC. They are both much younger and are rightwingers that are acceptable to lunatic fringe.
But who knows. The fantasy ramblings about Condi or Jeb Bush are ruminations of the Katherine Jean Lopez, divorced from reality club kidz.
-G
One last thought. I’m trying to decide which repub slogan mentioned tonight is my fave. “Fear more Years” or “Four More Wars”. Tough choice.
Maybe they realized that the independents are not going for McCain by a landslide. They are going for Obama. See open primary state Virginia. Oh and Obama just moved in position to win the nomination…
Handwriting on the wall? I sure hope so.
Can you say get our Constitution back? I thought you could.
It’s almost like they smell a very bad smell – the decaying corpse of the republican party.
Fear More Wars.

post updated with wynn’s concession at top
Obama out did Hillary with the union vote.
OOooohhhhhh
Not good for Hillary.
The unions have been Clinton supporters in the past.
Gov Perry Tx is a good pick for McCain VP slot. I met the guy. Very smooth but in a slimy used car salesman way.
He became gov of tx when Bush took the presidency because he was lutenant gov. Before that he was commissioner of agriculture.
Best news I’ve heard all day! 8-)
How about “Fear more Wars”
We want change!
We want change!
Absolutely fantastic. A hopeful thing to happen after an awful day.

Woo Hoo! Now i can go to bed happy! Donna Edwards! w00t!
g’night Firepups, may we all have pleasant dreams of Progressive victories!
pleez not to give ideas to enemy.
R U terrist?
[smiley face]
A casting call in a casket, I’d say. The Edwards win doesn’t make getting f*ed on FISA hurt any less, but it bodes well for less of that in the futuer. Thanks to all for the good work on her behalf; you put the good back into this good night.
That’s great news! I’m down with the flu, so I need all the good news I can get.
only thang sweeter is boosh/cheney impeached
(waving g’nite to the leaving sleepy pups)
Even George W. knew that he had to run on “change.” McCain seems to think he can run on “even more of the same.” I guess he thinks he can get by on pure charisma.
perhaps that can happen after they leave office. That way we could send ‘em to prison at the same time.
McBush plus ANOTHER war mongering Texan on the ballot?
The ads will write themselves.
-G
Hopefully all Democratic incumbents are feeling a little uncomfortable tonight. Too many of them aren’t paying any attention to us.
Dude! It’s been a while.
Sorry, I was away writing about this. I needed some good news to balance this travesty.
I hope that comes with a money back guarantee
Bummer!
I hope you feel better SOON!
Drudge has the banner declaring Sen. Obama the front runner, which he is indeed.
With that comes the heat from the opposition.
Best of luck.
Also props to Donna Edwards and also so long to Gilchrest. The GOP is going to be like Slim Pickens riding the bomb all the way down.
-G
I feel so much better tonight than I did this afternoon.
Yes we can.
I like the idea of summer arrests – far enough away from the general to avoid cries of ‘not fair’ from the r’s.
I like the title of your blog!

Poor Ari (Fleischemanuel, makes no difference) loses again. can’t figure out how to buy it
You are much, much more civil than I.
I won’t even link to mine, it’s over the top.
Not my idea!
blame to MsAnnaNOLA!
(seems really nice, but could be EVIL!)
Pat said that the republicans “have to take Obama down.” In view of our history, I really wish people would refrain from using that type of language.
I wonder if darth cheney is going to declare himself to be the best person to be VP (again) in a let me make ya an offer ya can’t refuse thang to crazytrain
Speaking of prison
Ney to get early release from prison
and, while i’m wearing this lovely tinfoil hat, i wonder if anyone has snagged the wynn for maryland party website yet.
i’ll snag that for the news ticker – thanks, margot
Good night pups. Well done, Donna Edwards!
Major props to Donna! But due props to Jane and Howie, too, for their not small part in galvanizing the insurgency nationwide. La revolución comienza otra vez.
Over the top, but nonetheless spot on. Sad when we have good reason to say things like this about the people who run our government.
Night gang.
Talk about a roller coaster of a day.
