Update III: Stoller on the phone says it’s a train wreck for Wynn, he’s losing in his base precincts. Wynn is telling the press he’s going to win. He’s friggin’ Baghdad Bob.
Update II: at 10:33 PM ET, 11% in, 55% Donna, 42% Wynn.
Update: WaPo is starting to post results. With 6% reporting, 55% Donna to 41% Wynn.
Via Open Left:
Montgomery County #521 which went 59% to 35% for Wynn last time, went 508 votes to 167 this votes this time around for Edwards.
Also, Prince Georges County 13-13 which went 60% to 38% in favor of Wynn last time, was 415 (Edwards) to 432 (Wynn) this time.
So, way early. But two precincts in with favorable results.
… 0504 Montgomery 371-161. In 2006 it went 280-161 for Edwards last time. Another great result.
Too early to draw any conclusions but early results aren’t discouraging.

Donna!!!!
Jane!!!
Hi Jane. Hope all is well.
Go Donna!!
HEH
Zed! for Donna.
I think Donna took Montgomery county. PG is anyone’s guess.
Donna!
that face is bright and hopefull, she makes me feel that way
Any new reports from Stoller?
Go Donna!
This is the race I want to see us win!
Jane!
Donna!
Fantastic about Donna! She deserves it.
Very promising so far – she’s totally outperforming her ‘06 results.
Update (Tim): 6% in — 55 to 41 Edwards.
Crosssing our fingers, doesn’t look bad…
I wear that red hat all the time, MM.
McCain up speaking – somehow he’s managed to put people on stage behind him who manage to make *him* look lively.
Pretty neat trick.
(as long as nobody keels over on stage). sorry.
Go Donna! We need some good news to redeem us from the shame of what happened earlier in the day.
sorry.. been out of it due to work. Where’s Montgomery County?
he does that weird smarmy voice … creepy
In her latest column Camille Paglia calls him “a weird old coot with a short fuse.”
McCain just appropriated one of Obama’s lines: “I am fired up and ready to go!” Sheesh.
omg Old Lord McCain just said “My friends, I’m fired up and ready to go.”
Where have I heard that before?
Oh, and go Donna!
{{{{ Jane }}}}
Teddy, you owe me a Coke ;-)
The woman behind McCain’s right shoulder is a dead ringer for Joe Liarman. Poor dear. ;)
I’m hoping the Obama wave carried her over the shoals and into the pure water.
Ya know, McCain MADE some pretty good statements, and he’s talking about, GET THAT, TALKING ABOUT not having “free speach zones”. I wish Obama would or hope he will TALK about those little “perks” brought to us by Commander Codpiece!
Very cool, I just knew that one would be you.
ITS VIAGRA TIME go john get it
firedupWhat can I say? I rather agree with Molly Ivins (of blessed memory) about Camille Paglia. It’s classic Ivins…
I remember Biden’s words: (something like) the BEST, MOST QUALIFIED, MOST EXPERIENCED PERSON in this campaign is John McCain. But he’s wrong!
bless her heart…
The photo of Donna is mesmerizing.
Camille is a nut but I did think that was funny.
LOL It would be funny if we all showed up at a McCrazy rally with canes in honor of him…you know…Mr. Old Viagra!
Large county in Maryland adjacent to Washington DC. Beltway goes thru it.
ok – so here’s my theory – presidents age in dog-years.
And McCain is already boring the sh*t outta me. 4 years of Crazy-Train? Just shoot me now.
She’s beautiful!
Dubya has managed to age *everyone else* in dog years…
Hey Jane -
Donna edwards is a great candidate. Let’s hope her lead holds and that it is a landslide prelude to a landslide year.
I hate the sirens of the sidebar. They’re trying to seduce me.
Hey Kay where in Maine do you live… I used to live in Limerick, near little Ossipie lake. I miss it sometimes until I remember just how cold it gets there! I’ll take California any time.
ick. i can’t take the news anymore. TERMINAL tim & tom dyspepsia. Cherokee flute music time.
I’m looking at the Washington Post site for results. I don’t know if this means anything but Donna and Wynn total over 4000 votes. The top 2 repubs have less than 100 votes. Anxious to see how it ends up.
thanks. California ignorance on my part :)
Hi Nahant. I live in Paris, but my family had a camp in Waterboro on Lone Pond, and my brother had a house once on little Ossipie Lake! We grew up in Cumberland.
The Republican race in Montgomery doesn’t mean much because MD-04 is so heavily democratic. So the disparity in turnout is not as meaningful as in other races.
that 6% has been holding for quite a while. Don’t like the look of that. Shades of WA state last week.
Go Edwards!
Some early Maryland results in for Obama. More opf a rout than in Virginia. With 5% of the vote in Obama 25659 (68%) to Clinton 11124 (29%). John Edwards has 364 (1%). McCain 55% vs. Huckabee 33% (4% counted).
Hi, Jane
Hi, pups
Anyone know if a good blogger is on the 21-year old Dem superdelegate from Wisconsin–the one who hasn’t pledged yet and might be “the Decider” of the nomination? Randi Rhodes was ranting and raving about him today, but it would be nice to get some facts and a bit more coherent, if snarky, commentary.
FunnyD
LYa know, McCain MADE some pretty good statements,
I’m gonna have to take your word on that one – somehow, when McCain came on, all of my senses shut down…
Was Obama expected to take today’s primaries?
MD-04 is a Democratic district. The Dem nomination is equivalent to election. We shouldn’t expect to see many GOP votes.
I wonder if there’s a sore loser law in Maryland to prevent Wynn from Lieberman-ing Donna should she win tonight.
nahant, what region of California are you? Just wondering if you know about the early March meetup at Suz’s wonderful cottage on Boulder Creek.
(OT: writers just voted 92.5% to lift the strike action. writers are officially back to work while the vote to ratify the new deal commences. woo hoo, great job wga negotiators!! and there’s hope yet for more “lost” episodes this season)
Is noonan here, betcha he would know.
Who told Noron to wear that outfit? Ick.
The Daily Show really needs those writers…throw Jon Stewart a bone!
I thought that you were joshing…or that the different Primariues were off in their vote counting. But both have 6% counted. That’s an amazing differential!
I suspect it’s a “Democratic District”.
It is nice there, like I said I do miss it at times and the fishing was great. But the cold got to me so I had to leave and I love it here in the Bay area. And oh I don’t miss the bugs in the Summer… and those misquotes could carry you away I swear… Black Fly season was never any fun either… But … I do miss the people.
thanks, egr.
one unintended benefit of attending my caucus on Saturday was I learned about the local progressive talk radio station. Not nearly as good as the Lake, but I can’t read threads while I’m driving my car around!
FunnyD
Well, he’s got a wiki page already
hey katy, I have relatives very near. Do you shop at the Coop in Norway?
With 11% of precincts:
Edwards 55%
Wynn 42%
Looks like Mad Mary Matalin could be dressing her. meow!
Yes, but I think that she was supposed to make it a bit more competitive, particularly in Maryland. Her hope was to win a few dozen delegates. She may not even come close to that.
I’d have to check the names versus ages of the superdelegates to see who you’re referring to, sorry.
Most of the bloggers are “down state” and don’t pay much attention to us up here, and the feeling is somewhat mutual. :)
Obama’s campaign emailed – tonight’s speech is up here
Sen Clinton’s speech from this weekend is here but nothing yet from tonight.
Anything besides Open Left on Donna Edwards?
Holding steady as the precincts come in…sounds good! Go DONNA!
You know, I was looking at a picture of McCain, and while his face looks pretty good for a seventy-year-old, his neck looks like he borrowed it from a rhinoceros. It’s sorta weird.
It’s cold here alright. Yesterday on top of Mt. Washington in New Hampshire it was 65 below zero. We were under zero with the windchill (I’m in the foothills near New Hampshire) yesterday too. I would love to go away for the winter like my folks do (I’ve never been to the West coast). Winters get harder and harder as time goes on and I find myself dreaming of palm trees and warm/hot weather! Though, I don’t like the humidity at all. We “suffer” with the humidity for a couple weeks here in Maine.
Don’t even get me started on the Maine Bird (mosquitoes)! LOL
OH, ok, he works with Herb! (Thanks to the Wiki link). I think I know who he is now. I’d have to see a picture to be positive, and before I’ll say anything more about the guy.
Interesting article on chickens coming home to roost re Hillary & Bill’s past.
and wordsmith @ 70, the Post has results as they come in here.
55-42, Edwards w/11% reporting
LOL I’ve not been in yet. ‘Been meanin’ too….yessah.
OMG. you guys gotta read this from Cesca on Huffington Post.
When you are ready for a “recap”. Honestly, LOL!

Guy’s name is Jason Rae. From Wisconsin. Too young to have ever voted for POTUS before. Could end up deciding who’s nominated in Denver this summer. Being courted by some very, VERY big name, high powered folks.
How do you even get to be a superdelegate? The guy seems awfully young to have paid enough “dues” to the Party already.

It’s the look that all the fascists are going for this year.
Ok, I remember seeing the youth phenom at the last state convention, but that’s about it. No insight, sorry.
I was surprised to see on MSNBC that Christine Pelosi is one too.
Can we request the list of qualifications?
Somewhere early I saw a warning about huge swings in results for the Wynn/Edwards race. The warning specifically said to not get too excited if Donna takes an early lead. (can’t remember where that was…)
Why did John McBush deliver his victory speech on a stage with the cast of Cocoon behind him?
-G
If you can wait until after Saturday, I’ll know more about Jason Rae and where he’s leaning (well, maybe). I’m sure he’ll be at the big shindig and I snoop around the best I can.
Good place. Say hi to manager, my niece, mention Chicago. With all the snow we have here now, I can’t say it is worse there — and so beautiful. Talk later. !
Just wondering if you know about the early March meetup at Suz’s wonderful cottage on Boulder Creek.
Hey – I got an invitation to that one! So let’s see… from downtown Indy, I get on I-70 west, go past the airport, drive a thousand miles or so, try to avoid stopping for my once-every-five-years re-enactment of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and.. I’m a little hazy from there.
Oh what the hell – I’d never make it past Vegas anyway – surely all the statutes of limitation have expired by now.
And I bet she’d have cookies and stuff, too… *s*
We don’t get the high humidity here I did forget to put that on my list of reasons why I came here to California… boy those 90 90 days I won’t forget them you are never dry. Although swimming in Long Ponds was great what with the white sand and the deep cool water!!
the look of the Party of the Living Dead.
Aug. 8, 2006. THAT was a day! and night too! I will always remember that one. :-)
Appreciate Christine Pelosi stopping by for a chat like she did, but was disappointed in seemingly superficial knowledge of the political landscape.
Lots ‘o bipartisan talk and the importance of being cordial. Yawn.
LOL! THAT was one teeny teeeNINY tiny little room there, after just watching Obama address a packed full auditorium.
Will do! We just bought a house in Paris back in September and I haven’t been to all the great places yet up there. Plenty of time. ;-)
Okay, I’m off to bed. Nite nite everyone. ;-)
They’re his peeps…
Dan Abrams at HuffPo has his MSNBC interview with young Mr Rae.
Plus it looks like a post worth reading.
FunnyD
Thanks Rev!
I’m at work and actually working – but I want to keep an eye on this one.
Ms Pelosi should renounce that appointment. This system is archaic and needs to go. I was asked by a Chinese national today to explain it today… she thought it resembled their system, ‘cept with two parties instead of one. If somebody can make that comparison with a straight face, we have a problem.
1932 :)
Actually, it’s called Lone Pond…not Long Pond…though, it’s a common mistake because our little pond in Waterboro is not even on the map, because it’s small. :-)
Nite nite.
Ha! “If you vote for me, you’ll never get old, and you’ll never die.”
Oh jayt – thanks and am LOL with bright red face – hey nahant you have a misdirected comment at 55.
Yeah, it’s not like state results where there are a large number of precincts reported in a random order, which is usually somewhat similar to counting statewide. It’s a small number of precincts, and there may be significant differences in her level of support between them.
It was. McCain was surrounded by the 80 something John Warner who’s retiring. Tom Davis who’s retiring to nurse his liver back to health and George Felix Macaca Allen who’s on tour doing Civil War reneactments after getting his ass handed to him by a moderate Republican named Jim Webb.
-G
Kewl, thanx.
Plenty of time. Seems like this year is a good time to shine a bright light on the supredelegate phenomenon in general and this youngster in particular.
FunnyD
It seems that the election results are coming in via pony express without the express. Wonder what’s taking so long . . . . suspicious.

Both are national committeepersons from their states, WI and CA.
Go, Donna, go!
George Allen would do well in macaucuses.
Nooo….maybe it’s the weather.
According to Steve Colbert, it’s a rule, McCain must always have Warner behind him.
“If you vote for me, you’ll never get old, and you’ll never die.”
Only a slight variation from the message on the back of cans of Cheeze-Whiz, fwiw.
Preservatives (or maybe half-lives) are important, ya know…
I was wondering if that was Warner, but he looked like a ghost.
He’s gotten calls from Bill and Chelsea Clinton for Hillary, and from John Kerry for Obama. Somewhere I saw it proposed that maybe Scarlett Johanssen call him for Obama in addition to Kerry; reading his bio, though, it seems like maybe someone else would be better, maybe that cute Will.i.am or John Legend.
I don’t get it. What kind of party would allow Macaca to show his face in public?
My brother said it looked like McBush had roused Ramses III for some stage time.
-G
HA!
Well, if McStain gets the nomination, frankly, I don’t think Warner looks like he can “stay the course”. He had that “coffinesque” look about him, I am afraid. You heard it here first!
(rises to applaud)
Watch out for punaise, however – you’re gettin’ into his wheelhouse…
LOL.
LOL!
lol.
They’re about to announce at the dog show.
Obi will win the nomination. Then let’s see how Hill gets on board.
Uno won! Best in show. First ever for a beagle at Westminster.
The Mummy Returns?
And RobZuber @ 111: 707 man! Good one!
FunnyD
And……the beagle wins……the beagle wins
Very bad weather, per Stoller. Elections workers refusing to bring the boxes in to headquarters for counting, and police/sheriffs unavailable to go pick them up due to the number of accidents needing their attention throughout the area.
R u kidding??? These idiots trot out friggin TOM DELAY!!!!! He’s everywhere! Except jail!!!
He’s friggin’ Baghdad Bob.
voters had an adverse reaction to Chemical Al
Oh my. That brought tears to my eyes I was laughing so hard.
16% precincts
54% Edwards
42% Wynn
For those interested in the DC vote with 89% in Obama 75% to Clinton 24%. I know it’s a very Democratic city, but 103,000 Democrats came out in the nasty weather…only 5100 Republicans. McCain won that Primary 67% (3425) to Huckabees 17% (874), Ron Paul with 8% (437) Romney (308) and Giuliani (83).
Things shifting a tad in Maryland with 14% of precincts counted ~ Obama now at 60% (58,571) to Clintons 36% (34,783). Democrats hyave pulled out more than 97,000 voters, the Republicans about 35,000. McCain now at 54%/the Huck at 31%.
My four beagles are ecstatic! Aroo!
I’m dipping in and out of the Lake, as I’m trying to pack for a trip tomorrow . . .
Could it also be the other way around from what Chris is reporting — that Donna energized her troops, and is giving Obama a boost? Given the way Donna has been working the district for the last two-plus years, I could see that as a possibility too.
Either way, it is great news, and each candidate’s campaign is likely feeding off the energy of the other.
Well, at least they didn’t have Wide Stance and Ms. Mcconnell.
Uno the beagle is Best in Show!
When we worked in CT the poll workers called the numbers in. Then again, they had the old fashioned lever machines.
latest for Edwards..54% to 42% with 16%reporting
Token says he is much cuter than that silly Uno and that he could take ‘em. Of course, Token is feeling brave after making a Dobie back down today.
The poodle bites it, the poodle chews it!
Suz!
Paper ballots rule!
It’s all over but the crying.
Breaking News:
John McBush’s stage crew has run out of Febreze trying to get the smell of formaldehyde out of the victory speech room.
-G
It’s not significantly changing with increasing count. I think she has it, unless there ios some huge pro-Wynn precincts out there holding back!
YEAH!!!!
Beagles!
The other dems in the race total 6% and all the repigs in their race combined have fewer votes than that 6%.
Remember, the poll closing was extended to 9:30 because of the weather, so it hasn’t actually been that long.
LOL! Go, Token! (hope you tell the story at Late Nite).
He’s right on the first assertion and probably on the second.
FunnyD
And old Steny will be doing a lot of crying if Donna wins – great!
a miniature dobie?
Holy Cow, looking at the Washington Post results, it a friggen blowout of epic proportions.
Big jump. 58-37 with 26% reporting.
yo, Steny – how’s it hangin’?
Woo-hoo – go Donna!
McCain inspires me.
In much the same way, interestingly enough, as does prune juice.
Pay per view?
Steny better get to the store before it closes and stock up on tissues because he’s going to be crying for days after this one.
58-37 at 26 looks good!
Don’t forget all the lost votes for Wynn that will be found before morning! It’s not over yet.
Wynn cheated his way to victory in 2006. This ain’t over, folks.
Vote McBush for Four More Fears.
-G
Did Un-O release a statement after his victory that went: “Death to the Fascist Felids that Preys upon the Life of the Canids!”
I’d pay a lot for a ticket to see that. He and Nancy were pumping Wynn like mad.
Perhaps he’ll find the needed votes in a Prince Georges County snow drift.

I’m sure his buddy Boner/Boehner has enough of a supply to get him through.
Will be a real poke in the eye to both of them.
The difference in the number of dem votes vs. repub votes is still huge.
About 28,000 dem votes. 2,300 repub votes.

The way these numbers are looking, it would have to be a sizable snowdrift.
full sized dobie. was headed for his sister, goldie, and token leapt in between them, snarling and air snapping near the dobie’s face. dobie backed away.
Works for me.
Deb, Al used to be my Congress Critter when I lived in Maryland. I met Donna and her campaign last summer at a Cheverly town picnic. Progressive Cheverly, a town organization, has really been working hard for her the last three years. I know right now, in Cheverly, there are quite a few folks just dancing, or sliding, in the streets right now. I’m so happy for them.
That McCain commercial voice is the creepiest voice ever. I want to duck when I hear it.
Well, you have to understand — Warner has seen his state party move so far to the right that they rejected his long-assumed successor, Tom Davis, who is now retiring rather than face probable defeat. And he’s gone from being a fairly well-respected moderate voice to knuckling under to what will be considered the worst president of our lifetime with barely a peep. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s pretty hollow inside.

I soooo wish this had happened for John Laesch.
Have any of the talking heads pointed out that, in all of the races tonight, Obama has won by greater margins than McCain has? I mean, the Republican nomination is supposed to be over, while the Democratic one is still a “horse race”, but that’s not what you’d guess from looking at the spreads.
This one’s over folks. 39% of the precincts are in and Edwards lead is increasing. It’s now 59% to 39%!
We do not know yet which precincts are unreported.
ain’t necessarily so. didn’t wynn pull some ‘miraculous’ come from behind win last time?
Final Virginia count (99%) Has Obama 64% to 35% for Clinton. Democratic turnout was 970,000 to 482,000 for the Republicans. Both were competitive primaries…is this really still a “Red State”?
Anyone know what total votes counts are between Obama/Clinton? I know MD’s not done counting, but seem to remember seeing Obama up about 200,000 before today. He should increase that greatly tonight.
I don’t hear the soprano even warming up for the finale yet. It looks good, but it’s still going to be a while.
on VA, they’re saying heavy rethug crossover for Obama (open primary state). If McCain is just moderate lite, why not go for the real thing? I must say that this doesn’t increase my confidence in our new presumptive nominee.
Washington Post has her up 59% to 36% with 39% reporting
Pat Buchanan has crazy-hair tonight. Is his brain slowly starting to explode from the inside-out?
I’m just waiting for him to declare for Obama.
Lisa,
I remember you talking with Maxine about Donna on the “morning after.”
cecal-cranial shunt.
hard to know.
REvdeb, YHM
I have an idea on this. The war. McCain today is not the maverick McCain of old. This is a totally different guy. There is plenty of footage to prove it.
Those in proximity to the beltway have probably much more information than the country as a whole. When we have a nominee we just have to educate them. Even Republicans don’t want the war, that is why I was so puzzled by McCain’s stance. However, as many posts her at the lake have shown he is in bed with the Bush crowd and that means being for the war.
No way to be Bush’s lackey and be against the war. Shrub would take it as a personal affront.
I think you’re probably right about what VA rethug crossever voters were thinking today. And it’s in McCain’s nature to be a warmonger. Old warriors need wars. I tink it’s less about pandering to George, with whom he has no love lost, than it is just his instinct for a good shock an’ awe opportunity. He’s literally the candidate of four more years, four more wars.
I find it kinda cool in way. It doesn’t worry me just knowing how pathetic McCandyCain is as a candidate. Imagine those two going head to head, and in debates. It’ll be laughable I think, and I tend to be cautious and skeptical.
I’ve talked to some Repubs that are leaning Obama, and there’s nothing weird of mischievious about their crossovers. They just like Obama and get inspired. Of course, have had some say say there’s no way they’d vote for a Dem, but you’ll always have that 25% or so.
I feel OK about as well since Obama is also attracting much more of true Liberal base at the same time. Once Clinton gets out of way, the Obama train’s gonna derail the Straight Talk Express.
The exit polling showed about 7% Republican participation in the Democratic Primary (71% did vote for Obama). Independents and Decline To State were much more important (22%). They went 67% for Obama. But even if the Primary was closed Obama still received 59% of the Democratic votes.
Feel more confident?
In Maryland (where admittedly theres a lot of counting to be done) the differential in Primaries (with same %age of precincts counted) shows 272,000 Democrats to 100,000 Republicans. Looks like more of the rural and suburban precincts and counties have finished up than the urban ones…which seem really slow (maybe because of lines extending past the extended deadline and weather issues?)
