In response to fahrender @ 67
if we don’t stand together and elect a Democrat this coming November

berating people for an honestly held view, no matter how wrong you think it is, is NOT the way to convince them to reconsider.
_______________
this is so EPU’d that you’ll probably not read it. never-the-less, here goes:

when i wrote my opinion (which, evidently, got nomolos going), it wasn’t directed at any individual. i don’t care who anybody supports. i’m not a Hillary supporter and i do support Obama since “my” candidate, Edwards, suspended his campaign. my gripe, and i think it is a very valid one, is that given the situation our country is in we do not have the luxury to sit out an election or throw away our vote just because we don’t like the candidate that best represents the interests of this country.
is John McCain a better choice than Hillary Clinton? if so, vote for him.

George Bush would never have become president of this country if enough Americans had thought about whether or not Bush or Al Gore was the better candidate. whether they didn’t bother at all to vote or decided that Ralph Nader was a good way to express their contempt for the other two, people with this frame of mind allowed us to be living the disaster we are now in the middle of.
i hope i get to vote for Obama. however, i will still gladly vote for Hillary if she’s the candidate. if she is the candidate and if she confounds all her critics and actually wins the election she will prove a far better president than all of the nay sayers would have us believe.

I’m a Hillary supporter, and I find it mind boggling that anyone could deny the fact that Obama supporters, at least online, spew a much higher level of vitriol than Clinton supporters.

i am so NOT a hillary supporter - but on this point we agree.

So are first ladies automatically precluded from running in your book, or do the Clintons somehow have responsibility for the fact that there have been two Bushes as President? And if the Supreme Court had ruled differently in 2000, would Hillary now suddenly be an acceptable candidate?

And do you think McCain will change his tune that we need more Roberts and Alito types on the Supreme Court because the Dems have a veto proof majority? As I said in my last comment, there are many good reasons to support Obama. But this dynasty stuff is nonsense. You must have been very disappointed when Obama enthusiastically accepted Ted Kennedy’s endorsement. I mean, who represents political dynasties more than Ted?

I’m a Hillary supporter, and I find it mind boggling that anyone could deny the fact that Obama supporters, at least online, spew a much higher level of vitriol than Clinton supporters. This isn’t based entirely on my personal prejudice. I just came around to supporting Hillary about three weeks ago, and one of the tipping points for me was the amount of time I was spending on blogs defending her against ridiculous accusations and innuendo. I would begin each comment by saying something like “I’m not a Hillary supporter, but I have to defend her here.” After a while, I just found it sickening how much hatred there was towards her. I didn’t support her because Obama’s supporters were so nasty, but the process of constantly defending her helped crystallize my thoughts.

I think part of the problem is that Obama has brought in a lot of people who are relatively new to politics, and don’t understand that you can engage in a primary campaign without hating and demonizing the opponent. I think it’s indisputable that way more Obama supporters insist they won’t vote for Hillary in the GE than vice versa. But I’m willing to bet that they wouldn’t be so full of hate towards her if she was running against Biden and Richardson. But they love Obama, so Hillary must be the personification of evil.

I really think the reason so many OBama supporters can’t see the difference in attitude between the two groups of supporters is because they get whipped into such a frenzy over every standard campaigning move Hillary makes. So she went to Florida the night of the primary to declare victory. So what? Obama had a big win in South Carolina, and her campaign was staging an event to try and take some of the luster off. But to hear Obama supporters, she was being “Rovian” and “slimy,” as if Obama never stages events. I guess all of his campaign stops are just groups of true believers gathered on the banks of the Ganges. I have to say, many Obama supporters seem to be cut from the same cloth as right wing radio listeners, in that they seem to live to be outraged by any move the Clinton campaign makes.

And to save time for a lot of commenters, I certainly recognize that there are many good reasons to support Obama, and that he has tons of well reasoned and civil supporters. Obviously,I’m not talking about them.

As a side note, can we please stop applying the term “troll” to everyone we disagree with? If someone makes a point, then returns to defend their point or refute what others are saying, they’re not a troll. The word has lost all meaning as it applies to blogs.

You well might conclude that my reasoning is that of a petulant, politically immature person.

Hillary Rodham could earn my vote for president of the United States. However, Hillary Clinton – essentially the same person – can under no circumstance get my approval.

George Washington was correct to step down as he did, in spite of the Neanderthals among our human population urging him to assume the mantle of nobility just-so-recently and violently cast off. The Adams family was not strong enough to resist and the result was a nonperforming disaster. The Bush family actively and openly pursued and pursues dynastic ambitions even as and after all iterations are disastrous, with the last an unmitigated failure empowering the worst elements to the detriment of civilization.

If Hillary Clinton were elected, at the end of eight years my 39-year-old daughter would have been under the rule of the Bush and Clinton families for all of her life as a voting adult.

We have, as a people, long recognized the problems of nepotism in government. We have made rules to root it out at many levels. The dangers of nepotism at the federal level are now glaringly apparent in all branches. The results will haunt us for many decades.

A wise people would see this, and seek to prevent it – either through laws or with the ballot. My wisdom may be foolishness for you, but – yes – I think that a President McCain under a veto-proof Democratic Congress is less a danger to my daughter and grand-daughter than a precedent-setting continuation of one-family rule.

if we don’t stand together and elect a Democrat this coming November

berating people for an honestly held view, no matter how wrong you think it is, is NOT the way to convince them to reconsider.

OK nomolos. the truth is that i don’t know anything about you or your wife. my original comment was directed at petulant people who, in my view, are immature politically if not disingenuous.
i’m not keen in any way for Hillary but if your distaste for her is so great that you think John McCain would make us better off than Hillary would, you’re entitled to that position. my amoral politics won’t let me agree.
i meant no offense to you and certainly not to your wife. i do think that eight years of the Clintons was clearly better than eight years of George W Bush. if we don’t stand together and elect a Democrat this coming November we could well find out what would be worse than both Clinton and Bush. now that Edwards is out of the race i hope to vote for Obama. i will vote for Hillary if she is the nominee.

I’m sorry, but this is just Krugman spouting the latest media talking point.

in defense of krugman…

i don’t have cable tv, so my exposure to talking points is primarily through reading blogs (especially the comments, or diaries). and i think krugman may be right, and it scares the shit out of me…. because i am no fan of either clinton (to put it mildly) and obama looks to be my only alternative.

Frankly neither I nor my spouse who has worked in the Choice movement for over thirty years find that clinton2 would hold firm to a pro-choice supreme court nominee. We both find that she would go to where the money is and nominate a screamer if that would help her power base.

And I do not claim to be mature….so stop being personal.
