Everyone’s favorite game show contestant, Dana Perino (or Dana Peroxide, as Holden at First Draft has dubbed her) had quite herself the press briefing today. The subject at hand? The economy and how, despite the adminitration’s protestations to the contrary, it is inextricably bound to Bush’s Baghdad Boogaloo (aka Republican presidential candidate John McCain’s 100 Years War). Once again, Ms. Perino put her awesome command of the intricacies of the country’s economic condition on display and cudgeled the White House press corps into a stunned silence:
Q How does the President plan to pay for this war? There was apparently nothing in the budget that shows how we’re going to pay.
MS. PERINO: Well, there is a — there’s a $70 billion component to it. And we also have supplementals that are in front of Congress. So we’re waiting for those processes to work themselves through the system.
. . .
Q — $2 billion a week. How is it going to be paid for?
MS. PERINO: There’s no doubt that the war is an expensive — that war is very expensive. The President has set out in his 2009 proposal for $70 billion for the Pentagon to be able to continue operations. At the same time, we have supplemental requests out there.
. . .
Q It’s going to be paid for as we go along, or in the future?
MS. PERINO: Well, we have been able to pay for the war and to bring down the deficit, but we are going to see an uptick in the deficit as a result of the economic stimulus package that the President will sign into law on Wednesday. Because we think that we need that economic stimulus package as an insurance measure in order to prevent an economic downturn.
[Note: not one reporter followed up on this statement.]
There you have it, ladies and germans, in full-throated Orwellian Bushspeak: up is down, spend to save. Somehow, it’s now our fault that the deficit is growing. Not the $2 billion spent per week off the books, not Bush’s seven-year booze-and-hookers spending spree, but us. The people who will receive those $600 checks, endorse them, and hand them back to the credit card companies, the heating oil companies, the car companies, the mortgage companies, and the IRS. The people who are sucking the lifeblood from the country by utilizing government entitlements. We stopped spending, so now the government has to write us all checks and shove us out the door and into the malls. [Oh, and by the way, you senior citizens who are only getting a paltry $300 to cover your prescriptions: be grateful you're getting anything, you Medicare leeches! The government would have turned you into Soylent Green already if it hadn't tied up all its goddamned covert CIA flights for renditions.]
As the country slouches toward a recession (if it hasn’t already arrived there), Bush and his minions scramble for quick fixes to avoid being saddled with the responsibility for paying off their war addiction. The Warmonger in Chief and his crack "Financial Literacy Advisory Council" are playing kick the can down the road until it winds up in the next administration’s front yard, despite all of the experts who crunch the numbers and flatly state that a check for $600 per person is woefully insufficient to shore up the economy.
However, this administration will continue to clap their hands over their ears, yelling "lalalalala, I can’t heeeeeeear you!" even louder, because the economic warning signs are getting bigger and brighter. Maybe Dana Perino will demonstrate how to adjust our blinders at the next press briefing so we, too, can pretend that all is well.

Well, I’ve dubbed her DAD. Hasn’t caught on like I’d hoped. But I’m still usin’ it.
Hey Watertiger! I told ‘em downstairs..
Dana makes my head hurt.
Between my wife and I, a sad look and a shake o the head along with “Oh, Dana” has become shorthand for, “Honey, you’re being stupid.” Always with a smile.
Miz Peroxide is a microcosm of this Maladministration’s grasp on reality…
Fuck Dana.
She is booooooring.
uh… “we’re waiting for those processes to work themselves through the system.” sorry to be explicit, but kinda sounds like shit to me.
I am convinced that at this point, they are intentionally trying to wreck everything they absolutely can, as badly as they possibly can. This is a conscious strategy to hand a Democratic President and Congress the nation in as bad shape as they can manage, so that there is as little chance as possible of a Dem controlled government achieving anything of value.
For example, the Republicans fought tooth and nail to eliminate from the stimulus package the things that economists across the political spectrum believed would be most effective: extending the duration of unemployment benefits and increasing the provision of food stamps. This is, in part, because the Republicans want the economy to be as bad as possible when a Dem president takes over.
This is my theory.
This is my theory.
Ann Elk?

Wow,
I’ve been around for a day or two, but it takes a special kind of evil to even attempt to spew that kind of transparent shit, and to then assume that there are ‘bots out there who are gonna buy it…
Do you think they’re so easy on DAD because a) they’re fucking lazy; b) she’s fucking stoopid and they feel sorry for her; or c) because she’s a woman? I say a & b.
What was so special about that comment (you can read the full briefing over at whitehouse.gov) was that nobody followed that shit up. My god, if ever there were a statement that required “clarification”, that was it!
They’ll just press the easy button and all this unpleasant financial stuff will just go away.
Well, i think she’s hot.
What’s up, counselor? Not still stressin’ out about a verdict not goin’ your way, are you?
Honey, if I did to that to every boring person I know, I’d nevvuh get anythin’ done … *g*
I mean seriously, this shit should be greeted with howls of dirisive laughter. These are friggin’ knee slappers. And these pople are just takin’ notes? Jiminy Cricket.
Nope. it is for the same reason they don’t ask Bush anything that matters.

Huh? Nice post, BTW!
Fixed it.
Heh, sorry. Monty Python reference.
“This is My Theory,” by Ann Elk. Lots of throat clearing.
And thanks!
It’s your typing, NOT your spelling. Know what’s really pathetic? you’re right about the absence of follow ups. They’ve just given up.
Maybe the next president can rewind the time machine back to 1999. All appointments still apply. All economic considerations still apply. We all have constitutional rights. etc etc etc.
Whoever has thrown their lot in with the Bush regime has, without exception, been irrevocably tainted with obloquy.
Yea but i bet she is still a virgin.
Bush is slashing and burning and the GOP in congress are cutting and running and they are leaving a flaming turd in the punchbowl for the rest of us.

Brackets Miss, brackets
I’ve heard Hillary asked the question directly about giving back the power bush grabbed. She said she would be more than willing to go back. I am sure Barack would as well.
I call her Purina, she is always shoveling the kibble out instead of things like facts or truth or anything else that a normal person would call relevant.
marymccurnin@42:Yea but i bet she is still a virgin.
She’s an inarticulate boobs.
The only good thing about another year of Bush is that he cannot keep the plates spinning that long. Assuming there is a God, Bush will have to begin paying for his own mistakes.
I hope that is a valid assumption.
What’s up, counselor? Not still stressin’ out about a verdict not goin’ your way, are you?
Of course I am – I don’t lose well at all…
godammit…
OT, did anyone watch Clinton’s debate tonight on Fox?
see, marymc? damn typos.

This reminds me of those stories that came periodically out of Iraq that we were making so much progress that we could expect increased casualties because the insurgents were doing so poorly.
Dana doesn’t worry her pretty little head about things like this, and she doesn’t understand why anyone else does, either. Someone needs to tell her that the rest of us don’t have jobs at Fox News waiting for us at the end of the year.
IANAL, but assuming all that excess executive power can somehow be reclaimed, I wonder how one would word the Constitutional Amendment to prevent anything like this kind of power grab in the future.
It’s definitely something to worry about. There is no guarantee. Bush has already screwed the pooch, there may be no going back. What would the American people be willing to do about it? How in God’s name was bush allowed to throw our constitution away to begin with?
imo this is a dangerous time…. bushco will do anything he can to wreak more havoc on the country b/c they know they’re going to be replaced by dems…. ergo – lets see how much we can fuck up america and let the dems sort it all out…. this crowd doesnt love america and its constitutional principles..
Listen for the sound of crashing China in March.

precisement.
Regardless of who takes the White House, we the people will need to fight very hard to get that power back. Governments don’t give up power easily. Even if Dem Presidents don’t use them, those powers could lie in wait for a future authoritarian.
“They” cheated and gave the constitution to an idiot son of an asshole.
Screwing up the country as bad as possible now makes it as hard as possible for the Democrats for the next four years, and thus helps Republican chances in 2012, and maybe even in the 2010 midterms.
exactomundo.
Remember Rumsfeld noted signs of their desperation as far back as 2004.
They’ve been on their desperate last legs going on 4 years now.
-G
we really need congress to pass legislation that makes it illegal to issue signing statements. as the r’s are so fond of saying, up or down. sign it or veto it but no more signing statements.
Everybody sing along…..The idiot son of an asshole….
-G
I wonder how one would word the Constitutional Amendment to prevent anything like this kind of power grab in the future.
Damn Ron – no amendment needed – just an adherence to the present one for a change.
Ironic that adherence to existing law feels like it might need legislative adjustment, huh?
Some of the most insidious signing statements have been aimed at curbing congressional oversight. Think about that!
Haven’t read comments but offer this illustration. There was a study (don’t have link)that stated the projected cost of both the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and the ancillary costs-vet care etc would be 2.4 trillion dollars. Some one measured a stack of compressed one dollar bills and then extrapolated the height of 2.4 trillion dollars…180,000 miles high and death beyond calculation. And then I listen to those running for office and puke.
A most excellent idea, Ma Cheri!
Suzanne, I don’t think it would work. He would either veto it, or issue a signing statement saying it conflicts with his Artucle II power. I think it would take an Amendment.
http://www.bushflash.com/idiot.html
“2.4 trillion dollars. Can we get that on pallets?”
[/Paul Bremer]
This congress has allowed bush to do whatever he wants. What’s going to change especially if there is a Dem president?
I’d like 9 pallets of hundreds please, with room for a forklift….
Um … Reid/Pelosi will deny the Dem President whatever she/he wants ?!!
1 thing i know for sure… the repugs will not play dead as the dems have in the bushco regime… believe it!
What if the dem president wants to bomb Iran? Go into Pakistan?
I agree with your sentiment, but the only legal recourse the Congress has over a sitting President is impeachment. So I would say that Congress should declare all signing statements null and void (as opposed to illegal), then take the fight to the courts to settle that issue.
i’m thinking its going to take someone filing criminal charges against boosh before congress sets the forking table.
This doesn’t look good ;-(
Hillary refuses to reveal her tax statements
Seems she will only do it after she secures the nomination. So she expects us to support someone who refuses to let her financial ties to become public? What’s with her?
how many have retired or need to spend time with their families so they are not going to run again?
I have no doubt. I hope we know everything there is no know about Barak.
dems only get tough with other dems…. they form a circular firing squad….
question for all the legal eagles here:
Is it possible for the next prez to issue an executive order nullifying the current admins signing statements?
Is it even necessary? (should next prez just commit to upholding all laws as passed? As in upholding the Constitution?)
What about an executive order nullifying ALL executive orders of the current admin? Or do they need to be undone one at a time?
We don’t.
That is like a circle jerk but no fun.
The upfront cost of the war $800 billion
The cost to resupply and rebuild the army $500 billion
The cost of longterm healthcare and support for all the soldiers injured in these conflicts $500 billion
The interest paid over the years on the money borrowed to finance the war and other costs
$1 trillion
These are my wild ass guesses but ballparking it this way gives you an idea how a $800 billion war can become a $2.8 trillion one.
oh you are sooooo right lol
What if Bush does both before November ?
Actually, Shrub basically nullified all of Clinton’s signing statements and EO’s in one fell swoop…
Some of the most insidious signing statements have been aimed at curbing congressional oversight. Think about that!
I’d love to see someone attempt to discern the efficacy of presidential signing statements. I’m of the opinion that they don’t mean shit… but this is kind of new territory (and it doesn’t come up often in central Indiana, heh).
I don’t think that they’re worth the paper they’re scribbled on… – but maybe that’s just me.
I worry that we don’t as well. We’ve already endured 8 years of investigating virtually nothing. I can’t take that again.
Frick, we have till January to sweat that one out…! 8-(
McCain looks like he’s gonna win with a piss poor showing in Washington
“The only one who could ever cheat me, was the idiot son of an asshole man.” Good song – Dusty Springfield, I think.
Sorry, that was bad.
Newt, no spoiler but please do not miss Stephen tonight …
What if he does. Uhm, I’d say probably nothing. Well perhaps there would have to be a draft because unless they start cloning folks I don’t know who would be left to fight more wars. My point was the Congress isn’t going to stop anyone from doing it, dem or republic
Never miss Stephen. Never.
The tax man is going to look the grim reaper to all those on the lower spectrum of the totem pole….party on eh hosers.
Someone mentioned Matt Taibbi’s piece on Reid and Pelosi on an earlier thread so I went and looked it up. How can you not love an article that starts?
http://www.rollingstone.com/po…..cken_doves
I bet Hillary remembers that and would feel obligated to return the favor.
Wouldn’t that be a hoot? All of Cheney’s hard work to make the preznit all powerful is vested in the new officeholder, a democrat, who nullifies all the carefully crayoned signing statements of BushCo.
DING!
Right on target, Rob. People have asked around here before why would the Repubes give all this power to the next, likely Dem President. That is the answer. They figure any Dem will not give up all this super cool shit they can do now, and just bide their time until the next time they can take the WH, either 4 or 8 years from now. In the meantime, they can get their act together and devise some really cruel crap. Also, Dems are Dems because they have at least some semblance of a conscience, so they won’t do anything too crazy with all that power. No harm, no foul for the Repubes.
Thing is, and I could be naive, but I think Obama understands all this, and he’ll restore much of the Constitution. Clinton? Not so sure.
It’s a mockery of a sham of two mockerys of two shams.
Huckabee is going to ask for a recount.
-G
And to all – a good night.
Bye, y’all.
Aloha, Jayt!
Adios, jayt
Although the new Dem Pres. should retain the Cheney power of instant declassification and declassify the shit out of Cheney and Bush records.
Let it all hang out and destroy those thugs in the history books.
-G
Huckabee is going to ask for a recount. that’s funny as hell.
‘night, jayt.
I’ve seen some criticism of Taibbi in the Liberal blogs. Never understood where it comes from, since every time I see one of his articles, it is stellar.
Have you noticed another interesting trend? Twice now I’ve heard our leaders refer to us as ‘consumers’. Not ‘citizens’, not ‘American people’ but ‘consumers’. First was on the Senate floor by (maybe) Susan Collins (not sure). Then Bush said it in his conversation with Chris Wallace. He said we have to ‘rush those checks to the consumers to spark the economy’. Demeaning, no? That is our identity with the repubs. They don’t even see us as people.
We’ll let that one slide.
-Crusty Springfield
I saw Matt on Bill Maher and he was smirking at the talking heads …
Via Huffpo:
Assuming they haven’t been shredded.
let it all hang out
I have a hard time believing that Cheney wants this power used by a NON neocon admin.
Has he passed the secret antidote to repub members of Congress to use when a dem admin tries to play the same tricks? dem members of congress are SO pathetic in fighting the Cheney.
One thing that gives me pause, is the notion that no President has rejected tools that their predecessors have accumulated in their ‘toolbox’! Whether or not this is borne out with the next administration, we shall see, but, we must remain vigilant…!
Hey WT, hey dawgs -
It’s quite teh trollfest over on the Hannity thread tonight. I hope waters are calmer over on this end of the lake.
I caught Henry Paulson speaking at a meeting in Europe the other day. He sounded like a total idiot. It was embarrassing.
These people are pathetic.
And so are shrieking ads.
I think (magical) that we are getting very close to an implosion a point, i.e. cheney and bush are going down, just seems that way, may be wrong.
Their pathetic at fighting any republic for that matter.
***Ding!***

Holy sh*t! And here I thought these FDL night posts are supposed to be kinda lite-fare and different from day posts…You guys are these brilliant at night? My my, I’m outta here *g*
Just kidding. I’ll be around just lurking till me beddy-bye in another hour…
Hi Danielle…
Hi Hugh…
yeah, but you can’t declassify stuff that’s been disappeared.
Making stuff disappear seems to be Cheney’s specialty.
Did you hear Herbie Hancock won a Grammy?
aiiight, i’m turning into a pumpkin.
keep up the good work, pibbles!
g’nite watertiger
They’d declare us enemy combatants, freeze our identities, and seize everything we have.
It’s all set up to do just that. Today.
Well I can understand a recount if he was gaining on the son of Cain, but with 5% more of the vote counted he’s increased only 0.1%. Somehow I think that he’s not going to get 50% of the remaining votes when he’s only pulling in 25%.
Yep. He broke Amy Winehouse’s streak…
Yea, just ask Lynne. I’m thinking a little sumthin sumthin has been disappeared from their marriage for years. That’s why she’s gotta write books like this.
http://www.whitehouse.org/admi…..isters.asp
Perhaps not, but I’m at least somewhat hopeful that none of this will matter come November… when we get 2/3rds in both houses aong, the presidency, and the rethugs are consigned to some combination of a generation or two of wandering in the desert of their own making, permanent entries in the rolodexes of countless special prosecutors,… or to whigdom….
They are not light. They are different. All kinds of nasty, hellious thangs are happenin. Clown car stuff. Camel toe stuff. Musak stuff. Stuff stuff.
Rough stuff. Enough.
Yep. The Constitution.
it just looks different in the dark
It’s really quiet out there.

Oh Suzanne,
I love that!
You nasty. I like it.
But how many children do you have?
re: clown car/vagina issue/number of children
28 R’s, I think.
And the Late Nite Mod stands right out there under the street lamp, so that things don’t get too out of hand when things get out of hand.
Wouldn’t it be fun if laura dumps george and writes a book?
I’ve had similar dreams. I think it’s possible if we get the Better part of the “More and Better.”
However, haven’t checked Howie’s place in a long time, but I must say I’m a little concerned we didn’t get John Laesch or Mark Pera to win last week, two excellent candidates. I’ve been worried for a while now that the Netroots has sort of plateaued. After exploding onto the scene in a few short years, it seems readership has really slowed down. We must grow our numbers greatly. Each one of us needs to get people to check out FDL and others.
We need to do that to make that dream a reality.
goodnight, cinnamon ape.
what’s that catch phrase… DFWM,F?
Still not enough of them…!
Wouldn’t that be wonderful!
Huckabee is going to ask for a recount.
The best part is that there is total confusion as to what should have been counted. It’s a mess. A beautiful beautiful mess.

actually I had the same thought about one second after sending the previous post.

The clown car jokes are waiting to burst forth from where ever they burst forth from.
Clown Cars Rule!!!!!
Aloha, Peterr, and any I missed…!
I’m partial to camel toes…! ;-)
Betcha “Staples” Huckabee wishes he had an Easy Button for the WA recount.
We must grow our numbers greatly.
I think only a small percentage of the population follows politics closely, and only some of them have the $$$ and time to spend online. I’m not sure how much we can grow. It would be nice, but we may have reached a saturation point.
Perhaps programs to encourage the spread of lower cost high-speed internet access would help.
You have a partial?
Maddy@127: Bingo. It’s all hanging by a thread. The entire asshat construct. Iraq; supply-side economics; our international stature…you name it.
I think Iraq will be the thread that breaks, and if it does, we better have the candidate with the least responsibility for it.
I’m just wondering if bush can get the Kurds to postpone that Referendum again. He’s already gotten them to move it to late June, which of course is right in the middle or our election. Not good, if you’re a gooper to have THAT Sword of Allah hanging over your head.
Bush would love to get the Kurds to agree to move it back one More “Friedman”, which would very likely put it in the democrats laps.
If the dems hold still for that, it will be hard to feel sympathetic for them, if all hell breaks loose in the north.
Going back to the original article…
Jeebus on a Pogo stick…These people, (Bush and company), are not acting like they are leaving office anytime in the foreseeable future.
What could come about to facilitate a complete and legal declaration of Marshal Law and a suspension of elections and all civil rights?
Remember what happened in many parts of the country when Martin Luther King was assassinated? Imagine what would happen today…Bush would be given Carte Blanche to declare Marshal Law.
Dear God, Please don’t let that happen…
From the back cover:

I agree-but worry about the prospect. The demands for ideological purity enforced by the left on our candidates are off-the-chart. Witness the number of people you’ve read saying, ” I will never vote for so-and-so, because of that thing….” , or the sheer vitriol directed at the Clintons.( as if people would rather have McCain appointing judges than HRC) That has to stop, if the movement is to grow. People need to identify the common elements that make Democrats similar, and unify around those principles…and be willing to accept some things they find disagreeable, if they are going to grow the movement based on the bedrock principles.
Or…something to that effect..
Hi Biodun,
As long as I am ranting, one of the things that bothered me today was the coverage of the 6 al Qaeda figures who were going on trial and face the death penalty. I never heard anyone mention that Hartmann was imported into the process as a partisan hack and backed the introduction of “evidence” gained through torture or that Susan Crawford the convening authority was a Cheney protegee. I heard her referred to as if she was some kind of prosecutor but the job of the covening authority is to act as a guarantor of the process and assessor of the gravity of the charges and potential sentences against the accused. Take these two, add in the bogosity of the Military Commissions Act, and calling the result kangaroo courts might be generous.
I have to wonder too why after holding these guys from 3-5 years they have suddenly decided to go forward with trials now. It strikes me as another effort on behalf of Bush and Cheney at CYA. See they really were guilty. A court said so. There may be also the idea of limiting the next Administration’s options by getting the MCA courts up and running before they leave.
I just got his from Shirley Goulb who is challenging Nancy Pelosi for congress. She will sitting on a table in front of Nancy’s SF office every Thursday…. check out her website and video. She has some big ones…

G’nite peterr – good dreams!
G’nite pups – happy comments to you

Secret courts are like the Hotel California. They keep going and going. You can never leave.

Good point. I wonder though, if more people were exposed the feeling of empowerment you get from the increased knowledge of these blogs, perhaps more would feel inclined to tune out Conglomerate Media, and to participate in the process, both with actions and money. Dunno…
Plus we have generations growing up right now with this new media model in place. Should be interesting to see what happens over the next few decades.
‘night, Doc.
Apologies for the quick drive-by, but:
Heads up: C-SPAN 2 rebroadcasting a 24-minute excerpt from today’s Senate Session at 12:30am Eastern / 9:30pm Pacific. I’m guessing Dodd and/or Feingold on FISA, but don’t know for sure.
I don’t think Bush is planning on staying. He is laying land mines for the next pres. I think that’s where all his (or rather, Rove’s) energy is going. They’ve given up on 2008 and they’re planning to make it so impossible for the next pres that they’re hoping to re-take in 2012. Case in point, the new executive order that says the next pres must give a detailed account on all expenditures.
At least, that’s the way it looks to me.
I will vote for the Dem nominee in November… I’m disappointed that the choices for me on the 19th of Feb. have dwindled sharply, but, I’ll make my vote count…
Hugh, the resaons you describe all seem plausible to me…
I’d add one more: October Trials
(no surprise – we all know what the verdict and sentence will be…)
and now to bed…
The timing does seem strange. If it were an election year I’d say that that was a huge part of the equation…
Aloha, Doc!
Solai, that is my read as well. If they can make the Democratic President’s term bad enough, it sets them up for 2012.
Screw the nation.
tribute to tom lantos
Oh for f*&^# sake, it’s Mitch McC on Tom Lantos…. never mind…
Years ago, when I started blogging I coined the term “Credit Card Conservatives”. Nice to know that the sleeping SCLM had finally caught up to that fact.
If BofA had financed the Iraq-cle (Iraq Debacle) would they be demading higher payments now too? Would Billy Frist and Tommy Delay be whipping out their checkbooks alongside Grover and the Club for Greed?
Inquiring minds, etc…
Christy had a great post about that the other day…pointing out the things that unite us as opposed to divide us.
I remember an informal poll done around here a while back that showed a very small percentage of FDL readers actually look at the comments, which is where most of the animosity arises. If a visitor is focused on the main posts here, I think they could attract to the min themes advanced here at least.
Plus, maybe we’re weird here in the comments, I tend to get more engaged i the process when having to defend viewpoints and perhaps change my opinions based on a particular conversation that takes place, so maybe the abck and forth can actually help? Who knows…
‘night all. Pillows calling.
sleep well solai
the It Takes A Democrat post?
and an “edit” button would definitely increase hits. Yeesh….
DING!
Kinda like “Liberal Fascist”.
That’s it! Classic.
Aloha, Solai!
I enjoy the posts immensely, but, I think the threads are even more informative at times…
*waving g’nite to all the leaving sleepy pups*
That should help. I’d also love to see new technologies that allowed casual folk to consume blog content (text, audio, video) as easily as they consume TV shows. I’ve said this before, but “I want my FDL TV.”
Thanks, Suzanne. That’s eactly what I’m talking about.
Oh, guess what? I wrote a piece sometime back about what a retreat under fire from Iraq would look like, and today it got a hit from John McCain’s campaign HQ!
Exactly! The White House admits that President Bush authorized CIA waterboarding of detainees and would consider doing so again. Common Article 3 of the Senate-ratified Geneva Conventions prohibits all cruel treatment of detainees, including torture, which the Senate-ratified U.N. Convention Against Torture defines as “any act by which severe pain or suffering, whether physical or mental, is intentionally inflicted on a person for such purposes as obtaining from him or a third person information or a confession …” (Training exercises, for example, won’t qualify as torture.) Article VI of the U.S. Constitution makes Senate-ratified treaties “law of the land,” and the War Crimes Act of 1996 makes violations of Common Article 3 federal crimes, which are triable in federal courts.
So, Bush is a self-admitted war criminal. And, now he has to balance his sins with the safety of the American People, whom he believes to be a nation of pants-pissers. There is only one thing for him and his fellow “conservatives” to understand: the American people don’t piss their pants for safety:
— “Those who would trade a essential liberties for a bit of safety deserve neither liberty nor safety, and will lose both.” [Benjamin Franklin]
— “Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves.” [William Pitt]
This model is old hat for the generations to come. They see the teevee as not relevant. The internets are the thang. That plus KO and Obama.
HA! Damn right. Where’s Mark Knopfler when you need him?
“Money ain’t fer nuthin and your chicks for free…”

OT – I’m kind of surprised we haven’t yet had a nationwide pattern of people spraypainting the word SPY on AT&T-logo’ed vehicles and equipment. Seems a natural.
*cough cough* not that we are condoning such action *cough cough*
I will not be available for 6 minutes and 4 seconds. I am in Dire Straits.

Right on. Just throw up the hands, scream a lot, and have some fun.

Shirley every Thursday noon at 450 SF gate, Pelosi’s office. Thanks to Nahant for that. How about a food giveaway for the homeless and get a great crowd.
The following point probably has been made above considering the amount of comments, but I heard on the radio news yesterday that the Bush Regime is issuing a report that there will be no recession this year. Nice huh? Have the noticed we currently are in one? Nope! They’re just driving the car with mud on the windshield again! Assholes.
I believe the good soldiers that have already given so much and their families could use my rebate more than me . Where’s a good place to send it without a suit getting any of it? Anyboby?
