Another good thing about it is that, especially with so many primaries being so early and front-loaded, that some dramatic event (say an illness, scandal, or change in political circumstances) would allow them to shift away from a candidate largely established early in the campaign and who has managed to hold on to just enough “normal” delegates at the end to win the nomination.

To use a Republican Party example…let’s say McCain went utterly bat-sh*t crazy next month. If there was a big jump to Huckleby in the remaining primaries and caucuses a set of “Super Delegates” could shift the nomination to the Bible-Man.

I’d agree that many Super Delegates are elected officials and would be subject to local pressures if their votes are known. Not sure about how that works. But some Super Delegates are also FORMER office holders (e.g. Speakers and other high party officials, Former Presidents (at least one Hillary vote there) and VP’s, etc.

The blog I’m finding the most hilarious is this one. Between the dittohead lingo and the bad grammar and spelling, and the hand-wringing over “liberal” John McCain, I damn near peed my pants laughing.

Ok, if you walk 20 steps outside with a wet head, and it’s -11, your hair freezes before you can get back in the house.

Just a community service note :)

I ask again, did you look at the names on the commission? Such as Gov Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas who recently endorsed Senator Obama. Did you read that Senator Levin of MI was a driving force in establishing the commission?

And I say again, not every action taken by Terry McAuliffe when he was Chair of the DNC was taken to make things easier for Senator Clinton to run for the presidency. He was the Chair of the Democratic National Committee prior to Howard Dean’s election to the post in early 2005. That does not equal dictator mandating things from on high.

As to why they are changing them now, I really don’t know. You’d have to ask Howard Dean and all the folks from FL and MI who pushed to move their state primaries earlier than the agreed upon window (including their own state representatives to the DNC) AFTER the DNC had established the schedule

I don’t see how any of stories you linked counter what I’ve said. If McAuliffe appointed the nominating committee, then that would hold almost as much sway as his being the Top-Gun fund raiser.

And if those were the rules then, why are they changing them now? Who’s behind that? Not Donna Brazile or Howard Dean.
