We’ve got caucuses in Washington and Nebraska, a primary in Louisianna and a convention in the Virgin Islands today. Here’s what we know so far:
- Huckabee overwhelmed McCain 60% to 24% in Kansas. Paul got 11% and Romney 3%, all delegates go to Huck.
Update 5:09PM PST: from the WA Democratic party site:
WA – 24.1% reporting
candidate percent delegates
Obama 65% 5136
Clinton 33.5% 2654
Uncommitted 1.3% 101
Other .25% 20
Update 2 5:20 PM PST:
Nebraska 73.5% reporting
Clinton 30.8%
Obama 69.1%
Update 3 5:27 PST – CNN projects NE for Obama
Reports so far from NE are high turn out – same for WA but LA is expected to be low. Here’s one report from Nebraska:
They were overwhelmed and sometimes outnumbered, but Douglas County Democrats say they are pleased.
Kris Pierce, with the Douglas County Democratic Party, says caucus captains did everything possible to make sure that no caucusgoer was turned away.
"The caucus we did today is a different caucus than we planned on in February, because we weren’t sure Nebraska was going to be in the game," said Pierce.
"We went from expecting 3,000 to being prepared for 27,000 within 10 days," Pierce added.
From Washington, Jesus General has an illustrated report on his caucus on "the Alabama side of the Cascades" and statewide, turnout is huge:
At Democrat caucuses at Kennydale Elementary School in Renton, volunteers reported running out of sign-in sheets and scrambling to find more. More than 1,500 people turned out for caucuses at the Civic Auditorium, exceeding the room capacity.
At a GOP caucus in Lynnwood, a crowd of more than 400 spilled out of a church gymnasium and into adjoining rooms.
The high turn out was preceded earlier in the day with a server-crashing run on the state Democratic Party’s Web site.
The state Democratic party’s online "caucus finder" tool was overwhelmed and flashed this message: "Due to extreme traffic volume, our caucus lookup tool may operate slowly, please try back at a later time if you are having difficulty."
If you’re in these states, what was voting like? (and why aren’t we all at the Virgin Islands convention, eh?)

About Firedoglake
Got my first phone call today about the campaign. Obama’s people asking me to volunteer. Still haven’t seen any commercials other than McCain. No word from Hillary’s people.
High turnouts for the Dems….!
Ah, those words always make me a happy camper!
Apparently, in WA Obama leading 3 to 1.
The question is, what’s going on in Maine?
I also volunteered to live-blog the results from the Virgin Islands, but no one would provide the tickets. :(
OT. I just want to give a shout out to Siun for bringing light, vision, insight, and peace making skills in her comments on a whole bunch of hot issues these last few days. And, she writes beautifully, even under pressure :-%
Noonan! you and me both!
If folks see neat coverage from local sites of the vote – please pass them along.
The descriptions from WA are astonishing.
Cheer up, Hawaii’s caucus is on Feb. 19th, ya could still make it… ;-)
Theat’s exactly how it played out Tuesday in Alaska – Obama 74%…
Ya, and who got stuck covering Caribou Maine today?
Never OT – {{{{{SIUN}}}}}
The Island vote (American Samoa last week, Virgin Islands this week, Hawaii next week) has seldom been so important! Here in Hawaii, people are already talking about the “Obama influx” expected at the party caucus on Feb 19. Our party caucus two years ago was rather quiet– I got to be president of my precinct because I was the only one who showed up! I don’t expect that to happen this year.
Bob in HI
Ha!
CT – I’m very willing to provide dawn to dusk coverage, if someone will get me there.
Of course, we do have people here that are from Hawaii, and I’d rather not fly out there if I didn’t need to. I’m not aware of anyone from the Islands that reports in here :)
Yeah, like Bob :) Hi Bob!
Heh, Definitely not a desirous spot this time of year! ;-)
MSNBC is running a special on Hillary. Hillary wants Shuster to have more than a brief suspension.
My prediction from 2 threads back. I was way off on Nebraska but since they didn’t vote today, I don’t count it.
Washington: Obama-50, HRC-28
Louisiana: Obama-30, HRC-26
Virgin Is: Obama-3, HRC-0
Maine: Clinton-14, Obama-10
Nebraska: Clinton-13, Obama-11Obama actually pulled 74% here, I’m told.Ummm, Bob and I are residents of Hawaii… I’m on the Big Isle and Bob’s on Oahu… *g*
Maine caucus is not until tomorrow
The results from one north Seattle precinct caucus:
5 Obama, 2 Hillary, 1 undecided delegate selected for the legislative district convention in early April.
The Party regulars were predominantly for HRC. There was no apparent ground game for Obama but many of his supporters seemed to be first time caucus attendees.
Overall attendance for all six precincts in the meeting place was about twice the 2004 attendance.
Good. I would have loved her to look at Shuster and say stte that “Dave, you you can say anything about me you want, But the next time you use the Word “pimp” in a sentence about my daughter, I’m going to pull your teeth out with a pickup truck.”
Her polls would have gone up 10%.
Yup. So cold you can see the crystals coming out your ears
Right, that’s why I wanted to know what’s going on up there. Guess I wasn’t clear in my typing :O
I caucused (for the first time in my life) this afternoon in Vancouver, Washington. The small elementary school gym was full but not crammed. My precinct had 44 people present. Lots of first-time caucus-goers. Most had already chosen a candidate but there were a few undecided. Speeches fell along the experience versus freshness lines, with a couple of comments about electability. Bottom line: eleven delegates, with 8 for Obama and 3 for Clinton.
February, 2010: F
ormer Vice President Mike Huckabee, who was installed into the Presidency after
the Supreme Court voted 5-4 to declare John McCain mentally incompetant,
is scheduled to meet Iraqi President Muktadr al-Sadr in Basra to discuss the
role of faith in government. Sally Quinn will moderate.
There is a move afoot to help Shuster keep his job http://www.dailykos.com/story/…../73/453519
RBG- I am not in a caucus state- briefly, how do caucuses work?
Will her Presidency include telling cable networks to fire journalists?
She’s taking this a step too far.
OT and I’m sorry but I just have to say this.
That was one slimy rethuglican we just had over in the book salon.
JMHO.
Thanks for getting out there and participating!
Rock that vote!
This site has been tracking some anecdotal WA caucus stories:
http://www.king5.com/news/spec…..fcdeb.html
Obama seems to be doing well and the Rethugs seem to be in disarray.
Thank you for this report!
noonan- try TMB tomorrow
http://www.turnmaineblue.com/frontPage.do
been trying to get reports from Mainer FLDers, but no word.
Thanks for letting us know. I’ve never lived in a state with caucuses. I imagine you have to be more “committed,” either to a candidate or to the process, than you do in a state where all you have to do is mark a ballot. (If only I could do that instead of touch a screen…) How long did the caucus process take?
That was one slimy rethuglican we just had over in the book salon.
Ha! I purposely avoided that thread because he was on Sam Seder’s show and I thought he was repulsive. :)
I’m sad about it though. I was thinking Schuster would make a good WH correspondent or even Press Secretary.
I don’t blame her for being pissed, I just wish those words had tumbled from Matthews mouth instead.
I was working this afternoon, so I didn’t have a chance to read this, or participate. Was it just one, or was there an infestation of trolls?
Clinton hasn’t explicitly called for Shuster’s firing. She may just be asking them to clean up their act as a whole.
Now, when does she go after O’Reilly?
No, it was the author!
From that King5 blog:
http://www.king5.com/news/spec…..fcdeb.html
Thanks. Did you see the update? I didn’t take it that she was asking for Schuster to be fired necessarily, and is looking for something bigger. Like rational reporting.
Oh, ouch! That would make for a rather uncomfortable Book Salon, I would imagine. Even if he’s a nasty piece of work so you think the book is worth reading?
I want my edit back!!! That should be DO you think the book is worth reading…
4:20 here.
Agreed. Multiple apologies have been offered. If she doesn’t show the grace
to accept them, she comes off like a shrew. Besides Chelsea ought to be able to
take care of herself. She’s been raised in the political mosh pit and should have
the emotional hide of an armadillo by now.
I would think it’s interesting, but I’d get it from the library.
Read the Book Salon and you should get the gist of the book…
It was just fine at the beginning, but got into nasty stuff from the author towards the end. Insulted mmb at the end, for example. And, “ethics” issues. It’s an interesting read, tho.
RobZuber@39: “Now, when does she go after O’Reilly?” :o)
EXCELLENT question!
During the FauxNews “debate”??? :o) :o) :o)
I decided to go about fifteen minutes before the doors opened. The caucus itself took a little over an hour, which is about the same amount of time it takes me to figure out my vote-by-mail ballot! I’m still a recovering Dodd and Edwards supporter (and discovered at the caucus I wasn’t the only one in that boat) but ended up buying into the change thing long enough to vote for Obama.
Hope that helps!
How particularly gracious for a guest who was here promoting his book. How very Republican… I’ll make a point to read the thread.
I didn’t buy it. It seemed as though it was just about New Hampshire with a little sprinkle of info on higher ups including Rove and his tech skills.
My pleasure!
It sure does! (Another Edwards supporter here, voted for him in 2004 too, and I fell into the Obama camp as well.)
It was Alison substituting for Keith who made fun of the dress Wendy Vitter wore when defending her marriage to the diapered FunBoy Senator from Louisiana.
I think Keith’s a straight-shooter, but he gets caught up when on-air with the other lads. As some of us do when in a man-cave. The problem at MSNBC is their gender imbalance — sometimes they act like they are in a man-cave. They need more than Bay Buchanan and the empaneled Rachel Maddow talking amongst themselves on election nite. They need more women and more people of color on their channel.
This is the kind of thing that really ticks me off:
http://tpmelectioncentral.talk…..d_shus.php
Yes, Shuster’s comment and the extreme sexism in American society angers me even more, but to now start using a person’s career to score political points is unacceptable. After at least three on-air apologies, letters, and a suspension, that’s not enough for Hillary.
She sends a letter today saying she won’t be happy until Shuster is fired. Shuster fer shissakes! To me, this is simply a tactic to try and steal news time from the thumping she’s getting today from actual VOTERS.
If she was this concerned about the treatment of her daughter and family in the BigMedia, she would never accept money from Murdoch, Ailes, or appear on Pox News, as she now does on a regular basis.
Some people here at FDL have been convincing me to vote for Hillary if she is the nominee, and I’ve been warming up to that opinion with the reasoned opinions here about that, but Hillary herself is making go back to my initial opinion to write-in Edwards in the General if she gets the nom. For shame!
True of all the stations. Your memory just amazes me, Teddy!
I saw that update. But, it left me thinking that she needs to come out and say that. (It is not enough for it to be intuited for her). Alas,I think her campaign is milking this to get contributions for her. Indeed there was a Kos post (this morning?) specifically about Shuster, MSNBC, with a note to readers to please contribute to the Clinton campaign – along with a handy button.
I’m looking at CNN and it just hit me — when they make the movie of this campaign the ONLY person who can play Huckabee is Kevin Spacey. It’s uncanny how much Huckabee looks like him…
Marion- granted, I didn’t see what if any comments might have been removed via mods- ones that crossed the line- but FDLers really were on their best behavior. Really trying to understand what the guy was about.
And yet I’m told my most-asked question around our house is, “What day is it again?”
So maybe I’m remembering the wrong things. *g*
What? No way. I think Roseanne Barr should do it.
Ok, Spacey for Huckabee and (from Super Tuesday’s thread) George Washington can play his wife.
I can’t get over how much he looks like Huckleberry Hound.
Aw, come on now, I want to be able to go to the movie without a barf bag! And Noonan @64 is right about George playing his wife. She’s one formidable woman, bless her heart…
Really? Funny.
I can report from my WA precinct, 26 people showed up, 16 for Obama, and Clinton got either 9 or 10. (There was one person who kinda grouped with the Clinton supporters, but I don’t actually know if they committed or not.)
Lively, opinionated, group. It was a blast. There were 5 precincts at one location, and at least 100 people were there. In 2004 there were maybe 10 from my precinct. To go from 10 attendees to 26 is pretty great.
They had enough supplies, but it was hard to hear what people said.
Interesting exit poll data on CNN just now – in LA, Clinton voters are more likely to say they will only be satisfied if their candidate wins while Obama voters are 44% only to 47% satisfied if either wins.
That’s what I like about caucuses – it’s much closer to the good ole town meeting style and I love anytime we get voters to hash out their positions together.
Huckabee won Kansas?
I think it’s time for McCain to drop out.
In my precinct – south of Seattle – we went 3 to 1 for Obama with high turnout.
If you are looking for a place to follow the race probably the best place is http://www.horsesass.org/
Great tales from the WA caucuses here.
707
But seriously, why not?
Which precinct, Nindid? I grew up in Normandy Park.
A counter narrative to the new younger voters supporting Obama and questions about whether they will vote. I think this election will come down essentially to the independents.
Well, wasn’t the prevailing wisdom that if Huckabee won anything outside the Deep South it was all up in the air? You’re right — Snuggles should bow to the inevitable and step aside.
I particularly like that picture, because he’s not only snuggling, but he looks like he’s getting ready for the grab.
AWESOME link – as always – Siun!
So what’s up with this Hillary Clinton infomercial on MSNBC? Are they making nice?
Me too. It’s the next one I put up on my office door… I just need to find the perfect caption…
Funny thing going on with the Republican candidates – both are NOT what they appear to be. Huckabee comes off in his TV persona as an affable, moderate, every man sort of guy, live and let live on various matters. (Not). McCain comes off as a moderate, calm, non-confrontational, able to negotiate sort of guy. (Not).
I’m too close to the Dems to do a comparable breakdown.
Infomercial? My guess is it was paid for and scheduled weeks ago, before the latest kerfuffle.
Voting irregularities in Louisiana. This is very bad: http://www.dailykos.com/story/…../21/453563
Not anything new… Remember how we were told W was “a regular guy,” and “compassionate,” and whatever other crap they said? Seems just more of the SOS that they’ve been serving up for years.
As far as W is concerned, I’d have a beer with the little weasel if I could be guaranteed an hour with no minders or handlers so I could tell the little shit EXACTLY what 72% of the country thinks about him and his policies and his friends and his cabinet and his recess appointments and his signing statements and his war(s) and his Katrina response and his… I just ran out of breath. I guess I’ll just have to bring Hugh’s list with me.
What happens if they all drop out?
Kos people think it’s the Clintons…I don’t…I think it’s the Rovians..
Not scheduled – it’s from the series they used to do of Biopics and the originally scheduled show – at least acc to my TV listings was “Deadly Encouter” part of their usual weird crime stuff.
Hey, RBG!
Missed you in the crush, since I’m sure we were packed into the same school multipurpose room (climbing wall, right?) though we’re obviously not in the same precinct.
I overheard on my way out that it was 87% Obama, but that was volunteer chatter, nothing official.
I think my precinct came in at 4 Obama and 1 Clinton. And guess who is the alternate Clinton delegate for April 5th? Should I wear my sparkly “Diva” pin? This was my first caucus, and I signed in as uncommitted. One brave soul signed in for Edwards. My next-door neighbor was there and committed to Obama. Somehow, I think she and I will still be cordial.
Lots of passionate and personal “discussion”, with the Obama supporters being noticeably more aggressive. Did you know that everything bad that’s been said about Hilary is true and unbiased and that the media is biased against Obama but not Clinton? Me either. Although that individual backed way down when I mentioned that I don’t have a TV and read leftwing blogs. Dunno if that was just disgust at my new-media bias or what.
Anyway, there were some moments I definitely felt like people were very in my face and judgemental for not getting behind Obama. That was very offputting. Sort of got my back up, in fact. Here’s a hint, everyone…if you’re passionate about your candidate, great. But please don’t suggest that I’m being emotional or irrational because I don’t share your view–especially when there’s so much emotional punch in how you yourself communicate. That goes for me, too. I cut loose with a “don’t wanna sing Kumbaya” and had to backpedal because I knew I was using a loaded phrase.
I wish somehow this wasn’t all about “winning”. That somehow we could agree to disagree. That somehow we could all step back and realize that we’ve got two good (compared to CrazyTrain), but flawed frontrunners instead of one “electable” and one not. And I especially wish I didn’t feel like I’ll be holding my nose in November, no matter who gets the nomination. Oh, and I was clear that I will vote for the Democratic nominee…no third-party, no write-in, no non-vote.
Back to read the thread!
FunnyDiva
Yeah, I watched Hillary on the news this afternoon and that’s the way I took it.
This goes beyond bad. This smacks of a continuation of what appears to be a concerted effort to “business up” LA after Katrina. We won’t rebuild, because those people will come back… We’ll supply Federal money to build casinos and hotels but not houses… To me it looks like part of a concerted effort. [sneaks off to adjust her tinfoil hat]
Not all of them think that. Cooler and more logical heads have prevailed to counter that ridiculous claim
Was hoping to see you too. Sorry to hear that some people behave in person just like they do in blogtopia.
Rachel Maddow on MSNBC, along with Buchanan…
Just updated with some numbers from WA – refresh your page.
Sounds like you’ve read Shock Doctrine.
and we reported before CNN … hehe!
We’ll have a regular schedule of posts tonight with Ian at 4PM, Kirk at 6PM and Thers at 8PM and we’ll keep today’s vote scores updated in separate threads throughout the evening.
Where? Got a link?
Nope, just the news. It’s all there.
And no Diebold, ES&S, etc.
Well, the thread we’re in right now is the first of these…
Are you surprised…? ;-)
BTW, how did you and FD caucus? Obama or Hill… If I may be so bold…? *g*
MSNBC: Projects Obama wins Nebraska
They’re calling Nebraska for Obama…! (MSNBC)
KING-5 TV live, with 27% of WA Dem caucuses reporting, 67% Obama and 33% Clinton.
No link yet.
Huckabee talking to Wolf on CNN.
You may, but I ain’t telling.
Thought I would ask…! *g*
Wolf just asked Huckabee if he would be upset if he “embarrassed John McCain” somewhere or other. WTF?????
NE results added – refresh
(again, before CNN)
I believe they are trying to make nice!
CNN reporting WA Dem caucus results:
Obama 7,094 67%
Clinton 3,353 32%
30% reporting
That _is_ interesting. Except, wait, there aren’t enough numbers there! What exactly was the breakdown of “only” vs OK with either for Clinton? Ooh, and what’s the margin of error? (and where’s the option for “not completely satisfied with either but still voting Democrat?)
Interesting because in my blog-comment reading and again at the caucus today, I’ve only read/heard “well, I’m NOT voting for Hilary”. YMMV
Looks to me like there’s a lotta blinders and projection to go around this primary season. YMMV
FunnyD
still tryin’ to get through the thread!
Rachel is kicking Pat’s ass again on the General Electric channel. LOL!
Well, at least Wolf is just as big an asshole with Republicans…
CNN calls NE for Obama
Hey, RBG
Maybe we weren’t in the same place after all? It felt like there were waaaaaay more than 6 precincts participating. More like 8 or 10. It was just this side of clausterphobic trying to get to my precinct table to sign in. And the creative parking in the immediate neighborhood was most entertaining. Good thing my car is native to Western Washington and doesn’t mind a few blackberry cane scratches…
FunnyD
I saw a report around 11:00 A.M. EST from a reporter in LA, who said that turnout in LA was virtually non-existent…
(correction – report was from New Orleans). So has there been a way made available for those formerly from New Orleans (and intending to return, thus establishing domicile) to vote?
Has anyone else had the little gremlin in their head whispering that the Shuster comment may not have been impromptu misspeak, that it was scripted? And by whom?
My First Amendment values have sure been uncomfortable with the state of “journeylism” and “infotainment” the last few years….
She hasn’t lost a match-up yet… I’m beginning to feel sorry for Pat, he was tagged teamed on McLaughlin Group last nite by a bunch of females… ;-)
And the NE state party site has crashed!
CNN mentioned the low turnout and murmured something about a “lack of trust in the Federal gummint.” Um, I would have thought that would have energized people to get the current crowd out of office, but maybe I’m wrong. Everything I’ve heard about the voting in LA sets my warning klaxons off.
Funny Diva makes some good points. Too much nanny-nanny-boo-boo, for sure. My experience in our Alaska caucus last Tuesday was that the HRC people were hard to talk to after being creamed, but that the Obama people weren’t rubbing it in. Hard to tell if somebody would be a sore loser when they’re elated over their victory.
This photo I took clearly shows that kind of a story. It is my precinct voting their Obama cards. The people in the front have just voted their HRC cards, and are not happy.
Update says no Clinton involvement known.
Scripted by whom? It’s been my perception that MSM is salivating and drooling and all ready for Hillary to be the nominee. They’ve been crowning her as the nominee for months and months. Why get ugly now? I don’t think this was part of any sort of a plan. God help me, it may be something as simple as an old guy my age trying to sound “hip.” It’s agonizing when they/we/I do that…
Right now, anything is possible. This election is one of those groundbreaking types that, if you’re into politics, you hope happens at a point in your life where you can participate. All the hype and conflict just feeds the political junkie.
They just declared Obama the victor in NE, according to Seattle TV. What are the rules in NE?
Yeah, I heard that comment too. It was straight Republican propaganda from a CNN employee.
well, as I finally remembered, the report was from New Orleans. I think that most Democrats have been purged from NO. Doesn’t necessarily make sense for the rest of the state, however.
otoh, if I was from Louisiana, I would be sorely tempted to boycott all things government-related too.
The Rovians want the Dems to mistrust each other…that is their game. Stay united.
Yeah. As I said, my BS klaxons go off over crap like that.
Awww, CT!!! You didn’t digest my brilliant, preening prose @ #89??? I ended up in the Clinton camp!!! I’m even the alternate delegate for the next round!!!
How’s Paradise???
FunnyD!!!
Yeah, from the pic, I could see how that might be just a tad disheartening for the HRC supporters.
What are the rules in NE?
I think that there’s something about no bib overalls in church…
Unfortunately, Edwards was a causality of that Hillary obsession by the MSM…
Kiddo and Lahoma don’t seem to be here this evening, so I’ll do my best to channel them:
In this house we are currently supporting Sen. Obama, but we are planning on actively supporting and voting for whoever the Democratic nominee is in November. We would suggest that you consider doing the same.
How did I do?
Gee, I wonder if the fact that 500,000 Louisianans have been “relocated” has anything to do with low turnout…D’oh!! Not to mention a bunch of voter irregularities…like closed bridges, etc.
And I’m STILL pissed about it…
Pretty good Marion!
Update: We’ll have a fresh results post in 10 minutes – between Ian’s and Kirk’s great posts …
latest results will be there
707…what do you think they’re doing!!!?? ;P
That’s pretty good!
Thanks!
31st district out of Auburn…. the rest of the precincts seemed about 50/50 split between the two but the statewide results are coming in at one hell of a landslide.
Rachel vs. Pat Buchanan seems to be shaping up as the most interesting contest of the evening…
They are probably out dancing and drinking margaritas…and…and…having fun!!!
In ten days I shall be caucusing… Cloudy but dry today… Allowing us to dry out… Sorry to hear about the Imperial Sugar explosion…
Carrhart should sue!
Not sure — I know last night they had houseguests and margaritas and pool playing and dinner and fun and… I hope they’re having a ball doing more of the same!
MSNBC projects Obama as Washington winner
Obama takes WA…2 down.
MSNBC projects Washington State for BHO.
In WA and NE, Obama’s averaging leads of 35%. Uh, yea.
I’ve been really struck by hom dominating his wins have been in states that were ignored for years by the Terry McAuliffe-led DNC. Not just ignored, but actually dismantled DemocratIC offices in some.
The 50 State Strategy has had a few years to percolate in many of these same states now, and Obama has emphasized many of these, and his won almost all of them, by a lot.
McAuliffe was never shy to talk about his strategy of putting all the resources into the big states, and Hillary has been winning those, but not nearly as wide as margins as Obama has been winning the others. Now that McAuliffe is part of Clinton’s campaign, I’ve been wondering if they’re able to pull some strings in those states where he really built up the machines.
OH and Penn are two states that really benefited from the McAuliffe strategy, so I think Obama’s going to really have win by a lot in all of today’s states, and pull off a surprise or two in the big ones coming up. Obama come incredibly far this last month or two, but he’s still got a lot of uphill battle to go yet. Yes, We Can?
Marion and kdh22 — I saw the Shuster comment and there’s just been this note of wrongness that I haven’t been able to shake off, and I don’t know what it is. It could be anything, it could be nothing. But the pimp line just struck me as too “delivered.” Maybe it’s as simple as Shuster channeling his inner Tweety, I dunno. But it sure would have been interesting to sit in on the pre-show production/editorial meetings at MSNBC of late.
And having said all that, why is it that serial offenders–like Matthews and O’Reilly and Limbaugh–get away unscathed?
Hey Marion- what was your GA primary voting experience like? Now that we have been Diebolded?
Hillary speech on MSNBC.
Marion- I have my own report, but just wanted to get the question in before you went to the next thread.
OKK is having fun with Ian!
I’d bet you are correct about the number of precincts. Think I got confused about an official who told me they had broken all the 04 precincts into 6 different locations this year.
OMG, the Dixie Crystals plant. Read the reports yesterday. Just horrific. I should Google which relief agency might be helping.
I remember reading about combustible dust/explosions back in undergrad, almost 20 years ago, though in the context of grain elevators. Seems like some clever tech-head could’ve come up with a solution by now. Though maybe since there’s no obvious _military_ application…
FunnyD
Good points!
This a bit disappointing. I thought MisogynyNBC would have boosted Hillary’s numbers a little more. Even if it didn’t, I still want that Shuster prick fired. We should ramp up the pressure to make that happen.
I hope he’s working at Burger King by Monday.
Our polling place changed, and I was amazed to find lots of machines (touchscreen though they were), lines, organized and helpful poll workers, and lots of happy looking people voting. The turnout was high enough that they ran out of “I Voted” stickers around noon. The poll workers said the lines were out the door when voting started, and there were lines (short) when I voted at 4:15, not a usually busy time. All in all, other than the crappy machines a grand experience.
Hillary is saying the more important issue is to elect a democrat. She is playing fair.
LOL, Marion. Perfect! Thanks for that!
Hope Kiddo and Lahoma are still having fun with their friends and Margaritas…it’s Saturday, after all!
FunnyD
Move along. Nothing to see here today. Don’t y’all feel sorry for me?
Pretty much the crux of her campaign right now
/s
snark? troll? Shuster is one of the few who does some serious homework and is not above speaking truth to power.
Great point, I don’t understand why the line was drawn at Schuster.
Excuse me, but Shuster is a good reporter who was about the *only* reporter on TV who accurately tracked the Plame case. Asking for him to be fired is outrageous, especially since O’Reilly, Limbaugh, Hannity and the others are one million times worse.
(I don’t think Clinton is asking for Shuster to be fired, by the way.)
Siun, thank you so much for getting us the results.
I’m picturing you rushing about the place here and there to get them and put them up :)
Hmmm. Remember the mirror effect. If you try to read text in a mirror it comes back with you in reverse.
HUH?
Shuster’s head was put on the block because they ‘couldn’t’ do the same thing to bigger names who are more objectionable.
She needed to steal as much air-time as possible, since she knew she was gonna get smoked today. They couldn’t let Obama have all the momentum after today for the next couple of weeks.
So they decided to play games with a respected reporters life and career in order to have a sacrificial lamb. Yes, Shuster deserved to be called out for his ridiculous comment and questioning. Fired? Please.
Shuster has done some very good reporting. He fills in on the pundit shows occasionally, but he’s not really a talking head. Matthews says all kinds of crap and should have been fired some time ago. Since Shuster is an actual journalist, it seems he’s being held to a higher standard.
MSNBC needs to have that standard apply to all their on air people.
Well it’s Saturday night *g* – but from my vantage, Hillary hasn’t always played fair in this thing(her campaign trying to block the agreed to Nevada Saturday voting places, her decision to stay on the ballot in Michigan after the Dems had decided against Mich voting, all the blog evidence of caucus problems in Reno with closing rooms etc. So, when she says she wants people to play fair, I see it as a reverse of what she is sometimes ding.
I think we’re back to Sun Tzu: kill the rooster to scare the monkey[s].
And while we’re at it, you don’t really think Bill Clinton thinks it’s going to be a nice civilized campaign if it’s Hill vs. McCain, now do you?
Shuster’s head was put on the block because they ‘couldn’t’ do the same thing to bigger names who are more objectionable.
JoeScar loathes Shuster. Wonder if that had anything to do with it?
(though that loathing is only expressed from a safe distance – never face-to-face).
MSNBC got punk’d – and should have had the testicular fortitude to simply let Shuster apologize for using a word with more than one meaning in a manner in which it could possibly be interpreted wrongly. Grow a pair, MSNBC!
CNN saying exit polls say Obama is ahead, but no projection. On the other side, a “competitive” race between McCain and Huckabee.
DUH, in LA
I have said this before, but as with Imus (dispicable comments, alas) it seems that Shuster’s “mistake” is being used by the right to get rid of a more liberal voice. And, frankly, what this goes back to are comments by two strongly Clinton supporting media people (Whoopie and Joy of the view) who totally trashed Chelsea (and the Clinton campaign) for having called them at home within minutes of each other to ask them to vote for her Mom.
Ummmm…her letter to MSNBC says suspension and apology are not enough… :(
She’s sounding pretty, shall we say…unforgiving. Shuster has been a good voice for progressives, and I think this has really gotten out of hand. Interesting how the attack on the press is so “selective”.
For ongoing LA numbers, the NOLA.com site may have updated numbers when they start coming in.
Marion- thanks- hope you are still here
My polling place, same as ever. But, there was a huge bottle neck- had to have registration verified by 2 (editt- one of 2)workers at their touch screens, before allowed to go vote on touch screens. Took ages to get through this step. Church basement, their connections via modem (I asked) Touch screen stations virtually empty.
Before, there were at least 4 workers at this step, looking through books of registered voters to verify. It was much much quicker.
I figured that at the rate this was progressing, they could process about 60 voters an hour, 10 hrs x 60 = 600 voters, way less that the # of voters in the precinct I imagine. Wait time to vote for one Pres. candidate and one ballot issue here was 30 mins to 1 hr 15 mins.
I just thought, oh, this is gonna be a disaster in November.
New election thread.
I must admit that I have never watched Shuster before, so I can’t attest to his journalistic integrity, but certainly MisogynyNBC can do better than having a reporter that calls a candidate’s daughter a whore. That’s deeply offensive to me, and that filth should be taken off the air permanently.
One down, a whole slew of others left to go. Off with their heads, I say.
