Sen. Thad Cochran, on the idea of John McCain getting elected:
"The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine. He is erratic. He is hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me."
Captain Mustache John Bolton:
Revealing information that he said had never before been made public, Bolton discussed how McCain secretly tried to shepherd his nomination to the United Nations -- a nomination that was held up in Congress over Bolton's controversial anti-UN statements and policies.
"He was very active behind the scenes," said Bolton, who was ultimately sent to the UN via a presidential recess appointment. "He thought I was the type of ambassador that ought to represent the United States at the United Nations."
"We will face other challenges ahead that will require new energy and before long, new leadership. I'm absolutely confident, with your help we will elect a President who shares our principles. As we take on the challenges, we must be guided by the philosophy that has brought us success. Our policies are working. The American people support our points of view. They share our philosophy."
Y'all ready for another four more years of craptastic Republican Bushery? Because with McCain, it's gonna be "less jobs, more wars" as far as the eye can see. Boo yah...what a legacy. Carrying on the Bush/Cheney agenda, piling more failures in the corner on top of the others?
No thank you.

Hmmm… the worst Prez calling his Veep the best in history! Serious credibility issues there…
Well, better now than later -
Good evening, Christy. Hiya Tut.
Sorry for off-topic, but Sam Seder fans can catch him live on air starting now for the next three hours:
http://samsedershow.tv/sammy_cam.htm
Just what we need, more hotheads in charge.
pppbbbbbttttt!
Howdy, Ma’am!
Thanks, Rob.
Evening to you, Christy…
Evening all. Have a snoring old dachshund sleeping beside me here on the couch — cracking me up. *g*
“We will face other challenges ahead that will require new energy and before long, new leadership. I’m absolutely confident, with your help we will elect a President who shares our principles. As we take on the challenges, we must be guided by the philosophy that has brought us success. Our policies are working. The American people support our points of view. They share our philosophy.”
This is either evil or delusional.
Sounds like McCain gave him wayyyy more than a hug. I wonder if it involved a roofie, because Bush sounds like teh delusional.
Delusional. Absolutely nuts.
Both! ;-)
The evil part will catch up later on.
299,000,000 people (and that is just in our country) disagree.
Either that, or the rest of us have just been declared not American.
Oh my. I notice that all three of kiddo’s computers are running in the downstairs bedrooms. My guy tells me it’s easier for him to run all his computers than to go from site to site on just one. He sort of plays musical computer chairs. I see him do it every night.
kiddo amazes me. He seems to be correct almost all the time. One thing I am sure of. He’s right about this: McCain must be dealt with and beaten. Once again, good night. Time to for more pool. kiddo is my partner. L.
Freaking John Bolton likes McCain, because he is better on IRAN than Bush.
Regardless of the faux “polls”…”they” are only a really, really, small, tiny segment of the population that rants and raves about their “supposed” powers…
Reminds me of that Twilight Zone or (Outer Limits) epizode with those tiny creatures on the staircase that said, “bite them in the ankles”….or something like that…
Have a lovely evening, Lahoma.
I sympathize — the Siamese and the black cat snore in stereo!
They must feel oddly powerful to be so disliked…both of them. Psycho…
How cute!
That’s creepy in the extreme. Where is it from?
I’m finding the Neocons….really tiresome.
John McCain:
{h/t kiddo}
Christy - Didn’t get to the last thread on time to comment - but I very much appreciate how you take the temperature of the lake and then give us the kind of posts that help to keep folks on a bit more of an even keel. Expecially the last post - skillfully done.
It is from the post above quoting Boooosh.
Thanks Fern — it’s more taking my own temperature, I think. I needed a pause, and thought everyone else might appreciate one as well. Glad you enjoyed it.
Redd’s got a weiner dog- Redd’s got a weiner dog.
I’ve got a dog that looks like a walking bear skin rug. If she lays down on the beige couch- she disappears.
Ahhh… Duh… (I guess I’ve gotten into the habit of ignoring anything he says as a self-defense mechanism!)
I’ve got a couch potato mastiff, and when he lays on the couch…he takes up the entire couch….but he’s a big baby. He says “wa wa” for water!
More than that, she’s a 9 pound, 10 and a half year old miniature weiner dog who thinks she’s the biggest damned dog on the block. And she’s old and arthritic and cranky…and got me through a couple of miscarriages and a pregnancy full of bedrest, and still my baby after all these years. :)
LS - I guess I am sort of sensitive to that sort of exclusionary language. I’ve been doing some geneaology on my Grandfather’s family in Poland. Their whole village ended up being taken to Belzec. My grandfather and his brother did not come to this country in 1905 to have their grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s rights under the US Constitution destroyed by a bunch of people who decided that THEY are the American People … and the rest of us are …the enemy.
That is precious.
Whoever the Democratic nominee is they need only one slogan to answer McCain or any Republican on any issue:
“If you want more of what you’ve had for the last 8 years, vote Republican.”
Say early. Say it often.
OT - Keith Olbermann issues an apology to the Clintons and specifically, Ms Clinton for David Schuster’s remark.

Damn straight, Hugh.
I couldnt sleep last night and was listening to AM radio. Boortz started with “Its not the economy, its Islamist Fascism” I switched…Mike Ray gun was talking about the same thing.”Economy wont matter if we are all dead.”
I guess the word is out but the question is… are they expecting another attack, planning one.
Redd
We got this dog a year ago. She came as a fluff ball- and ends up weighing 60 pounds. She’s a water retreiver on both sides- standard poodle and golden- and she cannot stop running after things. Wouldn’t give her up for anything. Best dog I’ve ever had- and I’ve had many.
A second Schuster apology.
Amen, Hugh.
I used to walk in the country playing a trombone while a mastiff would follow and sing. We were quite a pair..)
When I refer to “they”, I am only referring to the powers that be that aim to take away the rights of the citizens and disregard our Constitution and our laws….you know, the one’s that condone things like torture.
Redd- you should run a fashion magazine great eye for photos of beautiful women dressed to kill.
I am repeating myself, but can’t help it. I will always remember the day shortly after the Iraq occupation started turning into a bloody civil war two or three years ago. McCain was on some talking head pundit show. He had a very accurate and insightful criique of the Bush/Cheney blunders, and of the bleak road ahead in Iraq. Then he clearly articulated all the problems with seeking a military solution in Iraq, and how small the chances were of any good outcome growin out of military approach.
Then, to my amazement, he went on to advocate a military solution. He droned on saying we had to grind along and continue with military only policies that were indistinguishable from the ones he had destroyed just a few momments before. This was a corporate big media news show, so the ignorant blowhard idiot moderating it did not mention antything at all about the stupifying contradiction in McCain’s words.
Ever since then I have viewed him as a deluded man with little insight and no common sense or judgment at all regarding anything involving foreign affairs or the military.
And let us face it -he was a pilot, and his suffering as a POW do nothing to change that. He really has no life experience that qualifies him to claim any special insight into strategic military or foreign affairs. He is no Wesley Clarke, no Eisenhower, no Marshall. He is not even a Teddy Roosevelt or Truman, since he shows no sign whatever of being able to educate himself to overcome limited views and attitudes from earlier in life.
Some have been relatively friendly (me included) to McCain compared to most of the other GOP candidates. Certainly McCain, along with Huckabee, do not have obvious sociopathic psychological disorders. But he will be very very bad news.
He is an extreme conservative. He is violent, bloody, unthinking and unimaginativem self-righteous and extremely narrow minded and deeply unclever and uninsighful and simple minded militarist.
And over the last four years he has destroyed any claim to his rather flimsy claim to maverick and straight talk status.
So, let us take political aim straight at our fell foe for the next election, good old (very very decrepit and old, in spirit and mind, if not in body)
‘Less Jobs More War’ Dishonest John ‘The Straight Talk is Crock’ St McCain.
AKA
‘I dunnot much about economics let the Fed handle it’
‘Bullshit Local’
‘bald face on national presidential debate TV liar’
McCain
The horrifying Bolton endorsement speaks for itself.
It’s all they have. The economy sucks — and if people focus on that, they know they are screwed. Word is out: scare them shitless again for the next few months, or the gravy train is pulling out of the Cronytown station.
“trombone and a mastiff”
Now THAT’S a great picture.
I need a picture of that!
And don’t forget to tie Bush around McCain’s neck like a millstone.
Didnt someone say he was at the bottom of his class and I read that Bolton will be AG.
Mine sings all the time…led by “Wolfy”…their conductor…I have a bunch of dogs and a wolf. They are hilarious!! They each have their own voice…sigh.
You must have been an adorable pair…Mastiffs are really special beings.
Dog thread, oh good! Lil Bit got another check up and her bladder stones were infection related so no special diet, here little eyes are better but will never be healed, her back is better and her allergies are still awful. Progress I’d say! And the bodhi is slowly warming up to her.
I just watched “Rescue Dawn” and one of the first things those commie rat pathet lao did to Dieter was to waterboard him.
I’d love to see the video of that! *g*
LS
Mine’s a far cry from a Mastiff- but I don’t try to keep her off the couch any more. It’s too amusing to watch her “relax”.
I too would like to apologize on Schuster’s behalf. I didn’t follow the story but having seen a few of the Friday roundup shows, I realize now that knowing what I’m talking about is vastly overrated so I feel comfortable weighing in.
I want a dog so bad. As soon as I can afford to take down the big old dangerous dying tree so I can put up the fence, I’m getting one!
McCain=Bush, McCain=Bush, McCain=Bush… ;-)
Great news. Don’t know how people get along without a dog around.
And let us face it -he was a pilot, and his suffering as a POW do nothing to change that.
What does this mean?
So, here’s this evening’s fashion question: do you think a deep wine red dress would work with my red hair? I love the color of this dress, but I’m wondering if brownish-auburn hair would clash?
Thoughts?
His main strength among well intentioned independents and centrist Dems and Repulicans is his reputation as a maverick straight talker.
That was always a rather flimsy claim, but not entirely false… until his ambition drove him to his despearte pandering, equivocations, flip-flops and lies of past four years. Need to nail him on that.
He has bald faced lied several times on TV lately. Need to start posting those clips, with smoking gun evidence that he has become a conscious liar.
My bride is a color expert, unfortunately she is at one of those “women only’ parties so she can’t help!
Not only Bush - Cheney, Gonzalez, Addington, the works. Let’s see John McCain campaign carrying that load.
My feeling exactly…to the detriment of the couch….I just hate to “harsh their mellow”, which they do a lot better than I do….
I have a great picture of “Arthur” and “Arty Bell”, the cat…but I don’t have anyway to post it, it is really a nice picture.
I generally avoid red, because it’s like neon hair and neon coat, ya know? But deep wine red is such a pretty color…tempting…
Sorry to say, no photos were taken. I was house/mastiff sitting at the time. We were miles from the nearest neighbors, which is why we could pull these tragic and comical marches off for miles at a time. The trombone spent several years on the Harvard Band prior to my corruption of its sensitivities.
I agree. Life experience does not translate into wisdom. McCain is as you describe him.
Go for it ! Anyone who writes like you do can wear whatever she pleases. I think it would be great with your hair. I also love Coldwater Creek clothes.
Christy - I think it’s more the color of your complexion. My mom had red hair, but also was one of those freckly-redheads. She had no problems with that sort of red. But purple????OMG.
Also read something that claimed Bush said McCain is best person to continue and Bush policies. I am very confident that is true, if Bush is thinking about foreign policy. In that case, I am sure that McCain will continue policies of stupid mindless killing, that in addition to being immoral and expensive, are counterproductive and in all but the most short-sighted run, endanger national security.
McCain will also be more humorless and self-righteous about it, too.
Christy, wear it. Are you thinking of a special night out or daytime wear or what?
CHS- The cut is wonderful and the color could work. Hard to be sure with a photo.
that dress + CHS = yes! in my opinion. but then with regard to fashion, the common sense rule is usually to do the opposite of anything I say. I am a classic rumpled slob. so that is the warning label for my advice.
Daytime wear. This would be something one wore around the shanty whilst chasing the p-nut?
The other thing you can do that will mitigate is to find a printed scarf with that red and some other color in it…like..(this depends on your complexion) forest green or blue or perhaps chocolate brown. that will give a neat segue to your complexion and then the whole “red hair thing” won’t mean a thing. My two cents.
Nice dress!! Hmmm…you have to do that “color” thing…winter, summer, spring, fall…
The dress is “winter” blue tones….if you have blue tones in your hair (deep auburn)…it will look good…if your hair has “fall” tones…hmmmmm…might clash.
Hold up color to your face/hair and figure out what is an enhancement…it is pretty evident when you do that.
McCain has so much rage inside him that I think he would like to get rid of a lot of people no matter who they are. He is very scary. We also need to tie his remarks about the Vietnamese people to him once and for all.
Has anyone compared and contrasted the GOP and media response to the following:
Hilary Clinton’s defense of her daughter compared to the Dick Cheney defense of his daughter.
The response to Mrs. Alito tearing up to Hillary Clinton tearing up?
-G
I have to do a panel coming up at the Take Back America conference. Was contemplating a new outfit for it. Thought the cut of that dress might be nice on…
Hmmmm… I was envisioning more of a burgundy from your description, but that dress is fabulous. Go for it!
He also went way out of his way to help pave the way for relations with Vietnam.
John McCain, the worst pilot in the Navy? The man who probably was involved in the loss of more Navy assets than any other person actually on our side of the war during Vietnam? Neocon Warmonger. Leader of the Keating Five. Last in his class in Annapolis (or very close thereto). The man who walked out on his first wife and children (at a time his wife was terribly disabled from a tragic car accident) to take his carpetbag to Arizona solely out of sheer ambition to be on the political dole somewhere. The John McCain who then shamelessly immediately started an adulterous relationship with the decades younger daughter of the local Anhueiser Busch distributor who was politically connected in the Arizona GOP? That John McCain?
Pardon me, I have had the pleasure of Saint John McCain as a public representative ever since he plopped his carpetbag down here. He is an extremely intemperate, fairly slow witted, belligerent, pompous ass. But I’ll be willing to keep him here if that is what it takes to keep him out of the White House. I have met him and been around him numerous times, as well as seen him in action for almost thirty years now. He is a total jackass.
Don’t be a goof! I’m sure she has meetings during the day where she might dress up.
Buy the dress. Buy the dress. It will look great on you.
STAPLE SINGERS- Uncloudy Day (audio only)
McCain’s rehearsed, quiet tone is telling. He has to “tone it down” to not sound “angry”, but he is angry, and he has every right to be angry. I just don’t want a president with repressed anger in the WH.
I love the cut. However in comparing your pic (above the post) with the page from the catalog, I’d say no.
Yes, he did but why all the anger? It flashes in his eyes sometimes and it’s creepy.
It sure is a pretty dress and I think the cut would look great on you. I’d be inclined to give it a try. It’s not expensive - if it works, great, and if it doesn’t? *shrug*
Well, I have that weird Fall sort of tone hair, with blondish highlights here and there. But pale, pink-toned Spring skin with blue eyes. I’m hopeless when it comes to classification, I’m afraid. But I think I’ll buy it anyway. *g*
You go. Got black jewelry, purse and shoes? Silver or gold would be fine too. Very simple (but noticeable) jewelry. Share a photo!
Are we talking about the John McCain that demanded Bill Clinton immediately leave, in his words cut and run and wave the white flag of surrender, from Haiti and Somalia?
That John McCain?
-G
The great thing about Coldwater Creek is that it’s easy to return items you don’t like.
Well, we know where you stand on McCain…! ;-)
I do like their clothes — I got this dress for an evening out with Mr. ReddHedd and it was quite nice. (And Mr. ReddHedd liked it, too.)
Do I have to go to my room if I suggest that Mrs. McCain is sporting a strange Star Trek, beehive…rat’s nest..bouffant thingy..attachment to the back of her head.ummmm…that I haven’t seen since about…1960….??? Am I now banished for bringing it up?
the dress reminds me of the “Diane Furstenburg” style from long ago. You will feel so good in it.
*channelling Evil Dr. Puma*
What kind of Bushery is this?
I think it is a great dress, and I think it is the skin tone that is what does it….it will look great.
OOOOOO, Toby likes that a LOT!! And yes, i’d get the red dress — but I still think a scarf would help tucked into the v-neck ..it’s my story and I’m stickin’ with it.
Thanks for that. I am prejudiced, but you confirm my suspicions. Could you go undercover on his campaign? It would dangerous work, but you could do some good.
By the way, FDL, thanks for this note:
(YouTube of Diana Ross…seemed perfect for kicking back on a Friday night.)
I was sitting there like a goof trying to figure out what the clip had to do with anything McCain.
Ive been saying that for quite a while.
You are seriously asking why he has anger? Do you know many Vietnam Vets? I don’t care if he’s right or wrong and I sure don’t want to see him elected but I understand his anger.
Loved her clothes. Back then I had a waist.
It was a sort of play on the title…but the title was really an excuse for me to put up the YouTube.
And if there are people here who don’t think Jim Webb is angry you are dreaming.
Nope. I noticed that too… Not really a beehive, not really a chignon… Just weird.
McCains commercials on the radio sound like something out of a prayer meeting. Quiet music that has no relation to what he is saying…a mellow voise…attempts at calming scared people…grandpa
You should worship him.
Hmmm, I guess that depends if that is a comment on the mind set of the McCains, or that is your two cents on fashion advice for Christy. If the latter, then STRAIGHT TO YOUR ROOM!
I like that one too!!
