Do you get the feeling that the conservatives are gaming this thing? I knew that you would.
They know they are going to lose. They will blame the loss on the fact that McCain wasn't a real conservative (just like Bush.) They know when to fall back and regroup. They're already playing for the next election.
Everybody sing: Conservatism can never fail, it can only be failed.
Why is it that even the predictible whine of Tom DeLay can still be ever so grating? Or that Republican strategery is so nakedly blatant, and yet people continue to fall for it?
-- Marty Lederman asks why the torture memos still have not been released for Congressional, judicial and public scrutiny after WH public admissions of express, individual Presidential authorization of waterboarding. Why, indeed? Jim McDonald has it right: because the people who gave the orders want them buried. More sunshine please.
-- Mr. Leonard Pierce of SadlyNo has been visiting CPAC this week, and wins the award for amusing pix of the week. (Note to Cap'n Ed: More Queer Eye, less Leisure Suit Larry meets Engelbert Humperdink.)
-- Speaking of the smell of wingnutty desperation, Pam has a doozy.
-- Buh bye, Mittens. Redux.
-- MyDD crunches numbers and says that Hillary Clinton has a problem with independents.
-- Nikki Finke says "not yet" on the WGA/mogul deal. Closer, perhaps, but no signatures yet...and it's isn't a deal until the ink is dry. UnitedHollywood agrees.
-- House Dems are taking on abusive credit card practices. Good for them -- something that has needed tackled for a while. Especially given the state of the current economy, that doesn't look like it's getting better any time soon.
-- Somehow, I've gotten on a mailing list for Move America Forward. And they keep sending me creepy, end-of-the-world panicky e-mails with headers like: "ALERT: Code Pink Is On To Us." News flash: everyone is on to you, including people who didn't ask for your e-mails, you morons.
*Why yes, Skippy did coin that term...

zed hi christy
Christy, here is the Jon Stewart “f” you Romney clip:
http://www.crooksandliars.com/.....ney-fc-yu/
Love Aretha.
I’ve had that “it’s too late to apologize” song on my mind these days.
Do you think that there’s some Grand Master Reverse Psychology Scheme by Wingnuts to get their party in the White House by screaming how much they hate McCain?
Bizarro.
Christy! Zed + 1
Another good link to a “reality” near you. Infragard….:
http://dailykos.com/storyonly/.....979/452597
Hey all. Just got my mammogram results back and…yay…looks good. Total relief here today.
There’s probably some truth to this, since they know McCain can’t win.
Can’t even get the election close enough to steal, because the base won’t turn out.
So, why not fall back on what they do best? Whine and complain about big government while regrouping for 2010 & 2012.
Aretha
Music
Juxtaposed to
ancillary assholes
Sweet!!!!!!!!!
Great news Redd! Hug that p-nut.
{{{{{Christy!!!!!}}}}}
Congrats, Redd!
Phew!! Yay!!
Am enjoying reading whatever I can about right wing wailing.
It’s beginning to dawn on the brightest among them that GW Clusterfuck threatens the death of their “movement” not by his failures, but by his successes. He did what they claim will create nirvana- and it’s created unadultrated shit. How embarassing for them. How delightful!!
Now they must find a way to burn him in effigy- remove his name from the rolls of conservative presidents- say one hundred “Hail Ronnies” and get back to the business of returning to the nineteenth century.
That’s wonderful. A relief every year.
good news, I didn’t know you had a test you were waiting for, good it’s negative
Redd
What great news. Congratulations!!
Schuster said that Hillary is pimping out Chelsea. I hate that fucking asshole.
a reminder - men should get checked, too.
And don’t be all macho and squeamish, that’s what the drugs are for!
Having met Shuster a couple of times, he’s a nice guy. It was a stupid thing for him to say. Shouldn’t have said it. But it isn’t a pattern with him like it is with Tweety and Scarborough…it was simply a stupid thing to say in my opinion.
I like Shuster- although he’s a bit on the geeky side. I suspect that he doesn’t like Hillary and that led to a totally stupid remark- we’ve all made em- but makin em on TeeVee has consequences.
Yeah, I found a lump a few days ago and they had to work me in for a quick mammogram. Had one removed several years ago, and I have a family history of breast cancer, so we don’t take any chances on that in this house.
But, having just gotten an all clear, I can now exhale a little bit…
Ha! Christy they have stepped into our EVIL TRAP, We are not going to just raise interest rates and Taxes like they hoped.
Nope we will tax the rich ONLY. We will cut Military Spending (the GOP so hoped that their spending on the army would force us to cut Social Security, nope not going to happen)
We will put people back to work with work projects cause if it worked for FDR after the great depression it will work for us.
Now unlike GOP projects that never work like the entire Bush Presidency our projects on clean energy, hybrid cars, Healthcare will cut the amount of money Americans spend on electric power, Oil and Healthcare.
Healthcare used to be the biggest cause of Bankruptcy in America but with the SubPrime Crises I’m not so sure.
The money we regular people save will be invested back into the American economy a trickle up process.
How could Hillary and McCain be neck and neck. 99% of the Repubs hate McCain and they hate Hillary. The Dems are 50/50 for Hillary. So, it’s more like:
Hillary/Obama 50%
McCain 1%
Undecided and other 49%
This is the only time I can recall Schuster putting his foot in his mouth. I also don’t know why Chelsea’s work is so objectionable…don’t all kids campaign for their parents? It’d be weird not to.
Schuster is a smuck and always has been and ought to be on FOX where misogyny is a way of life.
Because there is an enormous pool of independents out there and they haven’t really made up their minds?
It never fails, anybody does anything wrong and we got someone that just jumps ugly. Guess it’s that free speech thing.
MSNBC have tried to put both Gregory and Schuster into talking head in charge roles- but it hasn’t worked well with either. I think Gregory might be able to pull it off with practice. Schuster just doesn’t seem to have what it takes.
I worry that McCain CAN win. For ever thing we tag him with, they can tag Clinton worse. His worst scandels are mostly forgotten and for some reason people remember him as talking budgetary sense to Bush and losing, thus insulating him from that particular bit of baggage.
Further, MSM is AGREEING with him that the surge is working, therefore he looks like a brave genius compared to tail-between-the-legs liberal idiots.
We got a problem here, folks. Clinton’s negatives are so high that McCain will get a look from a lot of the undecideds. And McCain is viewed as strong in all the areas where Obama is weak.
Boxturtle (Please, Goddess, don’t force me to choose between Clinton and McCain)
I believe Schuster began at Fox and then escaped to MSNBC.
He refused to apologize until he was ordered to by the network.
He stuck up for Tweety when he was called on his misogynistic remarks about Hillary.
So it wasn’t a slip and there’s no excuse for it. It’s outrageous. In the 50s and 60s no one would ever have talked that way about a candidate’s daughter.
Great comment.
The fact that things went to shit in and of itself isn’t the crime, just that they went to shit so quickly and on Bush’s watch and denying them deniability.
Naked ambition has to remain behind closed doors (see entry: Cheney) but Bush was just too transparent in his Power for Power’s Sake and greedy grab for more. IE his marketing sucks.
Heh. FOX (slogan: “Our lawyers said we get to call this shit news”) ID’s McCain as a Democrat.
http://hotair.com/archives/200.....f-the-day/
Or maybe we get a Center Dem for President who relives the Carter Presidency
who fixes the economy at great cost thus paving the way for a second Reagen.
In which case living standards will drop again and without a second Bill Clinton we will never get out of the hole.
We will be England after the Second World War a fading empire.
That’s not how you spell schumck, schlemiel.
McCain must be a red herring.
I have to say, I’m just about up to here with the all angry, alla time thing. Wearing me out.
Republicans. We are going to beat you all. Soundly. Get used to it. You’re going to gone a mighty long time.
Obama/Hillary or Hillary/Obama. Now that’s the ticket!
I know but do you see any end in sight?
I just finished eating jeesh
Being this way for them must really be fun
I wish I was only 2 degrees
Of the magnificence of 360 degrees of possibility
Then I wouldn’t be so insanely upset
That’s not how you spell it either: “Schmuck”….
;P
How was school?
Yes, I believe that I said it was a stupid thing to say. Or did you miss that part?
What a relief, I’m so glad to hear this!
Ha!
I was checkin to see who was paying attention *g*
I forecast Nasty until November…after that, who knows?
Alas, not any time soon. In fact, as edgy as everyone has been of late, I worry that it will get worse before it gets better. Blergh.
I’m skeptical that Clinton is “polarizing” and that she antagonizes independents, and I’m an Obama supporter (I think her advantage among white women is an underestimated advantage, and Obama’s race an underestimated disadvantage). It is going to be a different country in ten months, and not in a better way. Neither independents nor anyone else will be more disposed to any Republican candidate.
Having met Shuster a couple of times, he’s a nice guy.
and to his everlasting credit, Shuster seems to be absolutely *hated* by JoeScar. The Scar called in this morning to lay some crap on Shuster. And here’s what I noticed:
Scarborough *never* insults Shuster when they’re in the same room. If Shuster is on the road and comes in via satellite, JoeScar says “Here come the America-hating portion of the show”. This morning, Shuster was on the set, and JoeScar was not, but called in by phone, dropping some crap on Shuster.
But *never* while they’re in the same room, at the same time. Guys notice little things like that…
Haha, I saw that. It’s either lazy, incompetent, juvenile, intentional or all of the above.
I think the economy is going to be McCain’s bane. He wants to out-Bush the Bushies, let him have at it. He can attach himself to each and every failure, whole hog.
The DSCC has 29.4 Million left to spend while the Repubs have 12.1 Million. Huge advantage there.
Parent-teacher conferences all day today. The kids got the day off. I love my job, even on days like this. ;0)
I’m going to stick up for Shuster now. He’s the only one I’ve noticed that really confronts BS artists when it really matters and he does it with…Facts. I really really like that in a journalist.
Bush’s failed tenure in office highlights the problem that repugs (esp. neo-cons) have in general; if you hate government, what’s your incentive to run it correctly?
Government only serves as a grab bag for them; no bid contracts, pallets full of US currency lost (is anyone even looking for the 8.8 billion anymore?) lobbying gigs & 50 grand-a-pop boring speeches when you’re done.
Oh yeah, they also appreciate the chance to stack the courts from SCOTUS on down to minimize jail time for the unlucky few who get caught.
I don’t know Shuster, but if that comment was out of character for him, and he’s otherwise a good guy, I’d give him a break.
Here’s a nice break:
The Potato Song by Cheryl Wheeler
They’re red, they’re white, they’re brown
They get that way underground
There can’t be much to do
So now they have blue ones too
We don’t care what thay look like we’ll eat them
Any way they can fit on our plate
Every way we can conjure to heat them
We’re delighted and think they’re just great
Refrain
Poh tay toe Poh tay toe Poh tay toe Poh–
Tay toe poh Tay toe poh Tay toe poh Tay–
Toe poh tay Toe poh tay Toe poh tay Toe–
Poh tay toe Poh tay toe Poh tay toe!
Sometimes we ditch the skin
To eat what it’s holding in
Sometimes we’d rather please
Have just the outside with cheese
They have eyes but they do not have faces
I don’t know if their feelings get hurt
By just hanging around in dark places
Where that only can stare at the dirt
Refrain
I guess the use is scant
For other parts of the plant
But that which grows in view
Is eating potato too
I imagine them under their acres
Out in Idaho and up in Maine
Maybe wondering if they’ll be bakers
Or knishes or latkes or plain
Refrain
I love the digby quote above. Goopers only chance of winning in the long run is to lose this election. I don’t know how many of em realize that- but it’s the truth. Dealing with the aftermath of GW Clusterfuck is going to be SO nasty that it will KILL the next presidency. If that president is a gooper- that’s all she wrote- end of party. Hand in yer elephants guys- this things OVER. Buy mooses.
I guess the MittSpawn are gonna have to pimp a new ride now. Apparently their wheels were made by “Lose-abago.”

Bush is conservatism writ large. And he needs to be hung around all of their necks like the big, sinking anchor that he is.
OT - Mukasey won’t enforce Meirs and Bolton supeonas
—————
Our Constitution is under threat and the most basic principle of checks and balances is being undermined. Not since Watergate has a president so openly disregarded the will of Congress.
During hearings in the Judiciary Committee yesterday, I told Attorney General Michael Mukasey that I called for impeachment hearings because of the stonewalling and blatant abuses of the Bush Administration. He responded by stating that he will NOT enforce a contempt of Congress citation against Harriet Miers and White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten for refusing to testify before Congress. The video is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7M9sjRLCtQ
Alberto Gonzales may be long gone, but the Bush Administration continues its executive overreach with the new Attorney General.
We can debate the need for Impeachment hearings. We can argue its effects on the election or our agenda. But one thing is abundantly clear:
If Congress’ right to require testimony is undermined, then our country’s leaders - Democrat, Republican, or Independent - will be immune from accountability.
The power of the subpoena - to call officials before us - is one of the most fundamental safeguards in our system of government. To have it effectively discarded - by virtue of the President instructing Administration officials to ignore a congressional subpoenas and not even appear before Congress - is unprecedented. The idea that the Attorney General would willingly defend this position - despite Congress’ constitutional right to call such witnesses, is outrageous.
Impeachment hearings could render this moot: The President, Vice President, and all officials under them would no longer invoke executive privilege. There would be no more smokescreens.
In one week, I will be delivering my letter calling for impeachment hearings to Chairman John Conyers. Already, 16 Members of Congress have joined my call, including 3 Judiciary Committee members. I am hopeful for more in the coming days, but it is important for you to reach out to your representative in Congress to express how you feel. You can view the current list of signers, here: http://www.wexlerforcongress.c.....ItemID=230
I do not know how Congress will react, but I do know this: I will pursue this course aggressively. I will not compromise away the constitutional role of Congress. Your support is invaluable. Please know that I am working everyday to ensure that the Bush Administration is held accountable.
Please continue to support this movement at www.wexlerwantshearings.com.
Yours truly,
Congressman Robert Wexler
I have to agree I think Hilary is too much in the Center myself. I don’t find her annoying personally.
Christy
Great News, and great post, lots to think about.
But most importantly you are healthy..Big Smile
It’s gonna take a lot more than one slip to turn me against Shuster….
This is a bit shallow, but I think people will also find his persona and his physical presence off putting — I hope not too many people here take offense, but he comes across as a bit of an old kook. He’s not aged well, or matured politically in the eight years since the press fell in love with him. And on matters of war — when he’s not a bore he’s a psychotic. People don’t want any more of Iraq, much less Iran, and even that warmonger Clinton can campaign against him on that, much as it will disgust me to see her avoid any responsibility for or discussion of the real substantial problems with out imperialism.
TGIF folks. My lady will be here shortly and we are going nowhere tonight. We are having another teacher couple over later for supper, and we all appreciate the benefits of big shaved ice margaritas. As usual, I’m the tender of the bar and the cook. Probably the KP’ster too.
Afu3kingmen
Thanks. Just sent that to my granddaughter - she’ll love it.
you deserve a raise… *g*
You never know what can happen with a foursome and enough margaritas.
McCain is Bush III (Dr. Dean’s slogan looks pretty good to me).
I’m wondering what will happen first? — the final exhaustion of Delay’s pretrial appeal which seems to be in interminable limbo or will troops be withdrawn from Iraq to stop the unaccounted for hemorrhage of lives and treasure. I’m betting both of them have a life of at least one hundred years.
Idiot’s award to former Judge in S.D.N.Y. Mike Mukasey who took a whiz on his former federal judges in trying to scare House Judiciary on the release of crack offenders mandated by the recent decision by the U.S. Sentencing Commission.
Division in DOJ Over Crack Retroactivity
Confusion Surrounds New Crack Sentencing Rules
Mukasey tried to tell House Judiciary yesterday that hundreds of violent offenders would be released attempting to undermine any aspect of rehabilitation that occurs within his own prison system managed by his own spralling agency, BOP, and trying to pretend a federal judge doesn’t review the releases on a case by case basis. Maxine Waters called bullshit on Mukasey telling him he was in effect lying to them, and that’s what got Gonzo canned. Good for her.
Waters Catches Mukasey Bullshitting and Tells Him to his Face
Mukasey was a spineless bastard on the federal bench as well, pretending to examine a defendant who was beaten from the bench by eyeballing him (Mukasey has zero medical traning and even less medical knowledge), and demonstrating his total ignorance of Supreme Court case law that governs medical care for prisoners.
Mukasey rounded up scores of people who had committed no crime and held them as material witnesses where they were abused in NY by the BOP, and often prevented from contacting lawyers or family.
Seventy Two year old midget with a grapefruit sized growth of some kind on his cheek would be the best person to represent the gooper party in my opinion.
I’m the tender of the bar and the cook
may you be the recipient of tender “mercis“
Oh yea. Now that’s how you do it!
Wexler said “not since Watergate…” This is so far beyond Watergate, and was about 2-3 years ago. Just think if Impeachment was on that lonely table last year. We’d have so much more information now, that the Repubs would be done for good. Mucousy exists to stonewall just long enough now, and that’s all he’s doing.
Thanks Nancy and Harry!
Now is the time we feel (in this house) to encourage an Obama/Clinton or Clinton/Obama ticket. To ensure victory. It is time, we think, to tone down the invective on Dems and to turn up the positive volume on our Democratic candidates. ‘Happy days are here again’ sort of thing.
My favorite quote about McCain this week — from Thad Chochran of Mississippi: “The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine. He is erratic. He is hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me.”
The fact that he’s totally reversed course since Mittens dropped out makes it all the more amusing…
Move America Forward truly confuses me. They want Marines to speak to student and tell recruiting lies to young minds because they need more and more to feed the greedy war machine. What do they use to argue their rights: Freedom of speech. Are these the same military who do not have the right to criticize the military and the prez war policy? This boggles my logic.
Where do you suppose all those skin heads came from who traveled over hill and dale to get to Berkeley, where they didn’t live? I first lived in Berkeley in the sixties (gave myself away) and they objected to the military hanging on their streets then.
Move America Forward does have reason to want to shut Berkeley up because other cities will follow and others after that and soon you got the governor going against the Bushies and the EPA. See where such rebellion leads? Everywhere.
I so did not need that mental image. *g* (Have a good evening, kiddo…but no pictures.)
McCain=Bush, McCain=Bush… Rinse and repeat… Aloha Ya’ll!
Good to hear of your test results, Christy.
God help us all if the old man got traction.

That’s the ticket
…which is why a Rovian campaign appeals to me. Frame this survivor of war as “unfit to command”, mentally and physically. On the domestic front, frame the “straight talker” as an S&L crook and a Bush-hugging flip-flopper.
I used to make the real margaritas, with freshly squeezed lemon and lime juice, and Cointreau. Drinking them out of the big margarita glasses was the mistake.
You said: On the domestic front, frame the “straight talker” as an S&L crook and a Bush-hugging flip-flopper.
Well…um…he is an S&L crook and a Bush-hugging, serial flip-flopper. So that isn’t exactly a stretch. *g*
If ya liked Bush 1 and Bush 2- yer gonna LOVE Bush 3 (show picture of McCain kissin Bush’s armpit- eyes closed in glorius sexual ecstasy”.
stupid question, maybe - does Ann Coulter have any influence in the wingnut group or is she just talking to herself? I honestly don’t know.

the public discourse in this country has become so coarsened in the past fifty years that it is difficult to hold the line at much of anything. television and radio networks should certainly make the effort, certainly with their employees. David Shuster doesn’t have enough character to work to a high standard in this environment. as you pointed out, he let his true self be revealed when he backed up Tweety Matthews. he confirmed it with his stiff and disingenuous “appology” for the pimped episode.
Are you singing the mammogram song?
(to the tune of Thanks for the Memories)
Thanks for the mammogram.
The left one and the right,
You squished them really tight.
But now I know that I’m OK
And I can sleep at night.
So, thanks for the mammogram.
Old Coastie needs to toast herself: http://camajorityreport.com/in.....038;ptid=9
As it gets nastier and nastier I notice I retreat deeper and deeper into my patio garden which is where I am heading now. I need the sun and earth to heal my poor soul. Lordy be. Have mercy!
Collect pictures of McCain tryin to get down the ramp of an airplane- he hobbles like a ninety year old.Vigorous enough for the toughest job in the world? I don’t think so.
Clarity - Not FDL but news in general
I have to say, I was thinking about your mammo song while I was getting it. And the tech got a giggle out of it, as well, when I told her why I was laughing.
They will show that picture, thank God. I am in the DC media market and I was frankly surprised to see Ben Cardin’s campaign commercials feature pictures of Michael Steele and Bush…framed by a heart. The idea of McCain as a formidable opponent is laughable.
McCain’s just a placeholder. His VP, Jeb, will be hanging in the shadows, really running things and waiting for McCain to auger-in. He may not have to wait long.
Oh boy, my lady is here! She brought the sunshine in with her, just like always. And she’s happy. And so… I’m happy too.
McCain’s been in the senate for eons- taking Goldwater’s place I believe. He’s probably voted at least once for every hateful thing in the universe and at least once against every good thing. His voting record is a trove to be mined- as well as his Keating Five days…
Goopers are pleased that he will be the sacraficial lamb this November to atone for the miracle that was GW Clusterfuck. They HATE him.
I’m very glad it turned out well. The techs do seem to like it, don’t they?
Sounds like a sunny weekend!
CHS - Quick drive by here since you seemed amused by this mess yesterday (I have been for a while now and I am not even a Clemens fan). Why is a Federal Controlled Substances criminal distribution investigation being handled by an IRS investigator (Novitsky), resulting in a plea agreement (Radomsky) that mandates cooperation with an independent and case un-related sports business (Major League Baseball), the credibility of whose report is now being more doggedly protected by the Congress of the United States than are our Constitutional rights as to FISA? Add on to that pile of poo the creepy government informant that is well known by previous law enforcement that has had encounters with him on a rape case for being completely untruthful and whose bizarre lawyers think their client engages in “standard practices in the business” for keeping bloody steroid needles over seven years in a crushed up beer can in his garage (after lying to federal investigators and courts that he had no such evidence)..
Rasmussen has CrazyTrain beating Clinton right now by 3%. Obama beats him by 5%.
Hey AZ.
That should be true, but don’t be suprised when it’s not. The Democrats will do nothing except continue their march to minority status. Remember, they selected and have kept in place Harry and Nancy.
Thank You from Chris Dodd (YouTube)
No way they add Jebidiah to the McCain atonement sacrafice. Givin up one old goat is enough.
Tom Delay’s comments about global warming on Hardball yesterday were unbelievable. Anyone see Laura Bush on Charlie Rose last night saying no child left behind and the liberation of the people of Iraq were among the administration’s greatest achievements? Dilusional.
Obama’s up 20% in Virginia in today’s SurveyUSA poll. They been a little more accurate than some other polling companies. Saw an article also where Gov. Kaine was hinting Jim Webb as a VP for Obama. Sure would dovetail nicely with Barack’s Raygun comments.
Would that mean a return run from Macaca Allen? That would blow.
Rudy Giuliani. Joe Lieberman. For some inexplicable reason early polls are very kind to this type of viscerally repulsive fiend.
When LBJ was President in 1969, some newscaster make a comment about LBJ’s two “semi-beautiful” daughters. He let them know in no uncertain terms that his daughters, I believe in teens at that time were off limits.
Hilary is right to put her foot down on NBC. They went through this when Bill was President, when I believe Chelsea was 12-13. Like LBJ, they let media know that Chelsea was off limits and it stopped. Now she is quite grown now, but Schuster did cross the line in my book.
I think this is Hilary’s way of putting the media on notice to play fair.
Three words. You ready?
“Enormous PR Potential”
(Okay, technically that’s probably four words, but I’m counting PR as one. And yes, it’s incredibly creepy and weird, and still boggles my mind on the legal quanderies alone.)
Yeah Clusterfuck will point to No Child and his medicare drug programs as some of the highlights of his presidency- which will make goopers choke.
Dr. Dean’s slogan that “McCain is Bush III” works just fine for me.
What will come first:
Withdrawal of troops from Iraq or the resolution of Delay’s pre-trial appeal so he can be convicted and jailed where he belongs?
I’m betting both take over a hundred years.
Hi punaise
L.
Picking Webb would be too good to be true. That would really be threading the needle to pick a genuinely and actively anti-war figure who is at the same time an economic “populist” and a reminder of our Reagan-era power. Any complaints?
tasteless i know . . .
my kid, a very bright 7 year old, made a joke about McCain.
she said ‘that we should call him McWalker or McWheelchair. get it; cause he is old!!!’
tasteless.
Any complaints, that is, other than that he’s a sexist pig.
I’m probably the only person on earth still payin attention to GWs job approval numbers- but there’s a new one out from AP- 30% lowest in the history of that poll. People still hate the little fucker.
By this time next year, Laura will have completed her eight years as First Lady. That should make her a front runner for 2012 since she’ll have nearly the same qualifications to be President as Hillary Clinton has now.
Why hasn’t Hillary done this to Fox News. Many more outrageous things have been said there about Chelsea for years. Roger Ailes was the slime that produced the “barking dog” cartoon about Chelsea when she was 13 that Limpballz used to play. Now, Ailes’ employer Murdoch holds fundraisers for Hillary and they have lunch together. Bill taped a happy birthday message for Jabba the Ailes recently.
Hillary appears on Pox a lot even now, while Obama shut them out nearly all of 2007. Why now MSNBC and not Pox?
I like it! Very astute from a 7yro! ;-)
Bush sees himself as the best at being low, thus beating out his father yet again.
General Ma’am, Sir!
thanks, for bein’ healthy!
Fahrender’s off to sleep now. ‘nite, y’all ….
Where do you suppose all those skin heads came from who traveled over hill and dale to get to Berkeley, where they didn’t live?
Quaker, what the hell are you talking about. We had short hair because we couldn’t go off post without it. Last time I checked there were not residency requirements in this country. This is over the top.
Really? From which state will she be Senator for the intervening 4 years?
Shuster’s been suspended from MSNBC, for folks who were talking about the Chelsea comment earlier.
Running mates?
Wes Clark for Hillary
Robt Kennedy Jr. for Obama
Teddy Roosevelt’s ghost for McCain
That was fast.
Laura can run on her record of being instrumental in helping to stabilize Burma.
I thought RKF Jr endorsed Hillary.
How about Admiral Stockdale?
damn. Though, if I have any complaint about Shuster at all, it is that when he hosts “Tucker”, he does allow himself to somewhat fall into the patter of Tucker’s pre-arranged neo-guests.
I still, however, remain in his corner
“The enemy of my enemy is a friend of mine”.
Fuck JoeScar.
OK, let’s hear the whining that the suspension isn’t enough.
I believe RFK, Jr just came out for Senator Clinton and has a large amount of baggage himself that might keep him from running for elective office.
me taking my laps around the blog track tubettes and I find this VERY tasty clip from c and l
tastey
Now they need to cancel the venue for the remark.
That’s sad, altho I don’t condone his tasteless remark, I hate to see him go… Well, maybe they’ll give Rachel another shot!
now that is one excelllant analysis
This after his State of the Union where the GOP were giving him standing ovations???? Go figure.
just can’t let that “Rachel” thing go, can ya? *g*
Not to mention his unusual voice, he talks like it is painful for him to speak sometimes.
Suspended, not fired. But the thought police will get on that most rickey tic.
I forgot about that-thanks and thanks Old Coastie
And Christy, about David Schuster-he messed up but I do not think he meant it as other than what it means generally=to put someone out there to make it for you, in this case for her mom in a way that is the underbelly of politics as usual.
Slam me but that is how I view it..as not a pejorative, just not the thing to say in a goddamn pc world. mho
I love him on ring of fire, what kind of bagage do you think he has?
I don’t even know of any rumors
Oh shit, I changed my mind, I’ll vote for her now.
WASHINGTON (CNN) — In the latest edition of Us Weekly hitting newsstands Friday, Hillary Clinton accompanies the celebrity magazine on a “greatest hits” tour of her past fashion faux-pas.
In a playfully-mocking four-page spread titled “My Worst Outfit Ever,” Clinton addresses some of her more debatable wardrobe choices during her life.
Clinton dodged blame for the striped pants she wore in the 1960’s, claiming “It’s not my fault… It was the ’60s.” She also promoted her environmental policy while considering the massive, brightly-colored overcoat she wore at a Feed the Children event in New York City in 2000. “I’m a big believer in recycling - even carpets!” she said.
Heck no, I *heart* Rachel! 8-)
As for all that “peace” stuff — “It’s not my fault…It was the ’60s.”
The problem is that MSNBC has established a pattern of allowing offensive comments against Hillary Clinton. If that pattern didn’t exist, Schuster might have gotten off just by apologizing. In effect he is paying for what Chris Matthews, Tucker Carlson and Joe Scarborough have been doing throughout the primary season.
rotflmao…………tears
I was thinking mainly of an arrest for heroin possession and subsequent rehab.
drug use
As for all that “peace” stuff — “It’s not my fault…It was the ’60s.”
Yea, and her punk ass husband didn’t inhale.
That is too bad about Shuster. He does not have a record of being so crass.
A lot of this has to do with the tabloidization of the media and the cavalier way that other people lives are bandied about.
I consider him to be one of the best, if not the best reporter on TV. He is very concise and clear and explains difficult news stories with great facility.
Hopefully Shuster will be back soon and hopefully the media will get back to news as opposed to gossip and hyperbole. Facts, facts, facts.
I hope this means MSNBC will not ever allow Ann Coulter on as a pundit after her pronouncments.

No Cancer or anything that is really great news Christy. I know as I was told I had cancer of the Liver last August. I went in for surgery last month and the next day the surgen told me they were wrong and no Cancer… Still need to go CT scans… but that is better than what they were getting me ready for. Good luck in the Future Christy!!
Yeah I know the Robt Kennedy clan has been largely pro Hillary. I don’t know much about the current crop of Kennedys- but maybe there’s ONE who would make a good running mate. Would be perfect for Obama.
He did at one of the Farm Aid concerts when Willie Nelson handed him a doobie backstage… I’m still trying to find the you-tube of it… ;-)
Heck no, I *heart* Rachel! 8-)
well, me too, but I’ve held off on my standard marriage proposal - even more barriers there than usual…
Besides, I try to hold that down to one or two per year - and I think I’ve already used those already this year…
Hi Val! - sorry Joe!
OT slightly, We still need to support Rep Robert Wexler, I got this e-mail this morning so I thought I would pas it on to all the pups at the Lake:
Dear
Bill,Our Constitution is under threat and the most basic principle of checks and balances is being undermined.
This is one of those where I will defend Big dog. He always impressed me as one of those types who was so intent on not doing things wrong in case it would affect his career, and that including smoking back in the fifties and early sixties. Cigarettes that is. Inhaling is a learned response and I don’t know of anyone who inhaled the first time they ever smoked anything.
So yeah, he probably DIDN’T inhale when he tried to smoke pot. And the others I saw smoking pot who didn’t inhale turned out to be narcs.
Everybody is entitled to their opinion; but that is certainly a ridiculously uninformed one assuming you are not joking.
It’s been strange how certain commentators I’ve really liked in the past can get so partisan for a certain candidate that all rationality seems to leave them. Taylor Marsh, Larry Johnson are two right now in Clinton’s camp. David Sirota was like this against Paul Hackett’s run once Sherrod Brown declared for a Senate run. Now he’s pushing completely false narratives against Obama.
http://www.creators.com/opinio.....s-war.html
A simple search shows this current talking point is bunk…Obama is not getting most of his money from the rich, while Hillary gets her support from the under $50,000 crowd. It’s the exact opposite and has been this whole time. Quite easy to find:

FDL has been one of the best at keeping it even and based on facts, and yes, I’m aware of some of the brouhaha from the other night with LHP’s post (still hoping to see a followup on the Hsu-Clinton connection which seems much more troubling than Rezko). These others…I’m not sure how I can go back to trusting them after their odd transformations in the last few months. I guess there’s no reason I need to, now that there’s so many options now and FDL has remained a trusted source of info through all this zaniness.
Sadly, we’re the wrong persuasion for her…! ;-)
Come on my friends laughter is good for you
We can’t have that, this is some serious shit we need to be more like this.

NBC News President Steve Capus sent the following statement to Media Matters for America:
NBC NEWS STATEMENT REGARDING CHELSEA CLINTON COMMENT:
On Thursday’s “Tucker” on MSNBC, David Shuster, who was serving as guest-host of the program, made a comment about Chelsea Clinton and the Clinton campaign that was irresponsible and inappropriate. Shuster, who apologized this morning on MSNBC and will again this evening, has been suspended from appearing on all NBC News broadcasts, other than to make his apology. He has also extended an apology to the Clinton family. NBC News takes these matters seriously, and offers our sincere regrets to the Clintons for the remarks.
Were this kind of speech a normal pattern of behavior by Schuster, I would say fire him. No cable at my house so can’t watch Schuster but I’m told by a lot here whom I respect that’s not the case.
Suspension will suffice. Point made, by Hilary, and maybe, just maybe, the media will be more careful in their choice of words.
We don’t need MSM deciding who will be our next President.
>i>Sadly, we’re the wrong persuasion for her…! ;-)
Well, *I’m* open to persuas…., er, never mind.
I kinda think the “friends of fox” will close that gap
A little addition to the Blogtopia via Fromkin:
Mukasey’s argument that he can’t prosecute the people who carried out the waterboarding because they were told it was legal makes a certain amount of sense. But what about the people who told them it was legal? It seems to me that they are the ones who could more likely be prosecuted. But the Justice Department obviously can’t prosecute itself.
Isn’t this exactly what special prosecutors are for?
We no longeer have A department of JUst us.
Fer chissakes. After all these years of completely over the top sexist, racist, and all kinds of other -ists statements from Tweety Mathhews, JoeScar, countless “guests,” The Entire Pox Newz on-air roster, Hillary gets a “point made” on Shuster?!? Shuster is the worthy of taking to the mat about sexism in the BigMedia?
Jeezus. It just perpetuates the Pox line about big bad NBC, and about Liberal journalists, since Shuster wasn’t liked by the Noize Machine. Way to take a stand Hillary after all these years.
”House Dems are taking on abusive credit card practices. Good for them — something that has needed tackled for a while. Especially given the state of the current economy, that doesn’t look like it’s getting better any time soon.”
Well, that’s nice considering how many of the democrats are responsible for that piece of shit. And it only took 3 fucking years and a housing implosion!
Whoo-hoo! Go TEAM!!!
I am happy for you!!! Scary stuff - and an all-clear is such a relief!!!
So, I’ll put you down for being a “stick” fan in the carrot and stick universe, then?
Lest we need reminding, as we will repeatedly be assailed with the “wonderment that was Reagan,”–The Existentialist Cowboy has a wonderful piece entitled, “Reagan was no hero, but he played one in a movie” at https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=19580203&postID=8630824017545891082
Time softens many things, and we occasionally need a jolt to get our talking points neatly arranged to counter the zealots who wish to elevate Ronnie to sainthood.
I think what Shuster said was completely and totally stupid and thoughtless, but I think that for the Clinton campaign to call out this example of such behavior when so many examples exist from Faux News and other right wing media outlets over the years is sort of interesting in itself. I guess it’s all about timing. Thanks Tweety.
Does she think she’ll get better coverage from NBC? (duh, I think I answered my own question.)
I think Schuster is one of the more solid people on Cable or TV news for that matter, and has a long rich future. His analyses are on point, and valuable. He has not been fired from MSNBC, and he’ll be back on the air soon. If it had been my call, he wouldn’t have been reprimanded or off the air for a nanosecond given the language that has now regrettably become part of the culture and the obvious intent of his comment which was not to insult Senator Clinton’s daughter who has hit the campaign trail at selected sights only now. Schuster just grabbed some of the semantic lingo that has become common place as reading habits and vocabulary deteriorate as part of the educational failing in the U.S.
Rachel Maddow has pretty much become a fixture at MSNBC and she’s been terrific, and if they’re smart they’ll give her a show. Someone should snap her up. She’s done a great job at Air America.
Since so many of you tune into MSNBC so often, I’d recommend that you check out the new format for Dan Abrams (on after KO–the son of the famous 1st Amendment Lawyer Floyd Abramns). He came out of Harvard Law, and he’s now starting to focus on the exeuctive/legislative branches and the election, instead of what he used to do which was put most of his coverage onto daily local crimes and trials. I think it’s made it a much better show, and he’s good at it.
I don’t think Schuster meant his comment in any way frankly to insult Chelsea Clinton. I really think he was just caught up using a word or phrase that has made it into the slang of this time–that would have had many of us scolded at the dinner table if we had used it when we were growing up. “Pimp your rig” is very commonly used on TV, whereas 20 years ago the word “pimp” would never have been used because to most people it denoted someone who manages prostitutes for their own gain.
I remember that I made what I thought was a valid refrence to Chelsea Clinton’s being given a job with a hedge fund via connections not merit that pays about $150,000 noting that the Hedge Fund chief was an old friend of the family.
I was scolded that children of candidates were off limits by someone who doubles as a mod on the late night blogs. I was puzzled because I had just happened to see Chelsea in town on the campaign trail for her mom–noting how irritated Chelsea got when a cell phone went off and frankly IMHO how very vapid her remarks were to the crowd.
Two day’s later, after I was scolded for making a reference to Chelsea being silent on on stage, and having no background for a $150,000 job as her entry into the hedge fund management business stating now and then she got the job because of her mom and dad, not because of her expierience in any lesser job in the same field, or educational training, Jane Hamsher did a headline post saying “Chelsea Clinton is Fair Game” or close to it, and I thought “yep Jane is right that she’s on the campaign trail” because I saw Chelsea in the flesh with my own eyes appearing by herself attempting to speak in support of her mom.
Jane also noted, and I thought it was relevant, that she went to places where she was not likely to be challenged by questions from the crowd–and that she specifically avoided going to her alma mater Stanford University even though her mom was in California very recently campaigning, because she was likely to be confronted with pointed questions.
We sure are becoming a society that is strange–not offended by the terrible insults to our own civil rights by very very attentive to semantic references that weren’t intended to insult anyone or anyone’s gender.
If you don’t think your civil rights are being shredded, drop over to EW–it’s an orange tab up there because Marcy is doing an incredible job of nailing and analyzing some of what’s really important that’s happening to your rights and your government as Bush is intrepid to try to put his destructive mark on it for generations to come. AG Mukasey has now become a full fledged contributor into turning the DOJ into a guard dog for any violation of your liberties that Cheney, Addington and Bush want to launch.
We have the lowest possible threshold for what is politically correct, but have no problem when the same channel shows sensational stabbings, killings and follows a rock star’s hospitalizations and psychiatric problems nanosecond by nanosecond because she has a $40 million dollar net worth.
Meanwhile, issues that are foreclosing our civil liberties are occuring every day–and if you want to see them explored–hit the Empty Wheel tab because few of them are missed there.
This is a serious question. It is not intended to demean Senator Clinton.
I see a lot of women in dresses looking out the window right now. As far as I can tell, dresses are still very much in. NYT has their fashion editors reviewing dress designs, as does WWD.
Why does Senator Clinton not wear dresses any more? Ever?
dayam. i’m so sorry he’s not still in the race.
Is it not true that Hillary presents herself as being experienced because of her time as First Lady?
Hillary does have an independent problem… the independents are essentially republican-lite. If they break, they would likely break towards a male democrat, but not a woman. Thus, if the dems want to get the “independent” vote, they ought to never run a woman candidate for President. And this will make it safe for independents. OTOH you can look at the primary results in the populous blue states and figure that none of this really matters because Hill got the plurality of the votes by a huge margin. All she needs is to pick up Florida and some Southern and Western swing states with enough of the “independent” and Hispanic and Asian votes to augment the traditional democratic vote. She may even make some in-roads into women republican votes.
Pete - I think that Schuster is very good and I like him a lot. I think his remark in this case was uncalled for and inappropriate. Chelsea may be “fair game” because she has been out on the trail, but this was not fair or supportable. From everything I can see, the Clintons have somehow or another really done a good job raising Chelsea, she from all reports and indications is charming, extremely bright, has her head screwed on correctly and she has certainly comported herself with class and not been in any unseemly limelight whatsoever. I think Schuster should be reprimanded and apologize; what the reprimand is is up to his employers. Personally, I don’t think I would have suspended him, but if his employers choose to for a brief period, that is their prerogative. The bigger problem, and I watch MSNBC a lot (except for Tucker), is that they all have really been on a clear cut attack of anything and everything Clinton for a while now, even Olbermann. It is unseemly in my eyes; and although it got a little more below the suface since then, it has only increased in frequency and effect since Matthews was called on the carpet for his way out of bounds hateful comments about Hillary after the New hampshire primary. They have been on a tear since then, and they needed to be called on it. It should not be just the Clintons calling them out either; what they have been doing is so unprofessional as to demean the credibility of NBC news in general and the presidential election cycle. Like the Clintons or not, what MSNBC has been doing is indefensible.
If you are going to equate that with freaking dead plant laura Bush, there is no reason to engage in a discussion with you. Peddle your cheap crap somewhere else; I am not buying. I am not even a Hillary fan, but this crap is insane.
Really? A serious question?
Hillary Clinton chooses to present herself as more experienced because she was First Lady. Laura Bush has been First Lady for nearly as long.
after the past 3 years, and especially since breaking all the promises of the 2006 election? Not too many carrots.
I still dole out the occasional carrot: when Bob Casey votes the right way, I call him out for praise to the 800 subscribers to the Drinking Liberally Philadelphia bulletin.
But in the case of the
Let’s Rape Consumers ActBankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005? Not forgiven, not forgotten. That bill fucked up my credit but good: first my rates went through the roof, then I couldn’t pay off a credit card bill no matter how much I threw at it, and now the thing’s in default. If I had a stick, I’d break it over Joe Biden’s stupid fat head. The housing implosion, btw, is intimately linked to the bankruptcy bill.
Right, an “honorable” defeat for dishonorable people.
Listen, clearly you don’t like Hillary Clinton, and that is fine; but this is a moronic comparison.
Giuliani stole them all.
I’d like to think even though I’m for Obama strongly and have all kinds of reasons why I’m not for Hillary, I’d have been more sensitive to what scores of people here have characterized as Mathews’s aindefensible attacks on Clinton, and I haven’t noticed the negativity as much as everyone else has.
I’m not trying to be insensitive, but I think the issue has become obliterated by the slang use of the pimp phrase.
What strikes me, and I’m sure you noticed is that when KO or Mathews have pitched their attempts at humor at Shuster (and I don’t mean what they’ve been criticized for here) Shuster has reacted with such propriety it’s odd to me he would have used a slang term like this on camera anyway–but who knows.
Maybe I’ve heard so much Hardball in the last year or so, I’ve tuned out a lot of his comments. I didn’t notice it and I’m not being cute–I’m probably honestly just being dense.
I wouldn’t have suspended Shuster. I’m with you there, and it’s of course their call, but if they have any sense of proportionality he should be back on Monday IMHO.
Bmaz– have you noticed that Dan Abram’s show (Floyd’s son) has morphed into examining more relevant EW type topics lately. He drilled into Bradbury last night. He used to do a lot of police blotter/Britney in court/Baby Daddy legality/OJ stuff with the local DA talking head types, and I tuned him out, but he’s gotten better and more interesting lately.
