Evidently he will announce that he’s dropping out at CPAC on CSPAN2 (where McCain was reportedly booed this morning).
Will it be the revolt of the snake handlers, led by K-Lo of Arc?
Watching the GOP go Naderite would be some quality entertainment.

HA! Great title!
Nice headline
Mitt takes his money & goes home.
With what’s left of Tagg’s inheritance.
Apparently the Romney camp did the math.
what’s rush got to say
WooHoo… or maybe he’ll do another of his patented Willard Flip-Flops… out today, in tomorrow.
The GOP illuminati like Limbaugh, Coulter, Hannity, and he rest have been humiliated.
Paper tigers.
Now they have to walk back their rhetoric or shut their pie-holes.
-G
P.S. The elephant in the room that no one has talked about is that the southern states will simply not vote for a Mormon.
Romney to Quit Presidential Race
I was really hoping mitt would spend another 50 or so million before he dropped out
this is a crying friggin shame, the economy will now not have the stimulous plan that was romnery
but I am very surprised they didn’t know this was going to happen
Laura Ingram just said she respects all the candidates.
Besides, those horses of Ann’s are takusan expensive. She’d never forgive him if she had to give up being an equestrienne.
James Dobson should declare his candidacy immediately. He should run as the Evangelical candidate and the perfect person to put McCain in his place.
In fact all right-wing fundies should write-in Dobson as their man this November whether he’s on the ballot or not.
Anyone care to start this movement?
Ambinder had this earlier today, but wouldn’t even Anon source it. Mittens people at CPAC didn’t have a clue. I guess it has been confirmed.
The empty husk of a talking point that is Laura Ingraham is clouding my TV screen.
-G
They have always been paper tigers. They have always been wrong about everything. This has never stopped them or shut them up for a second. Not one.
pass the popcorn
So Ingraham says she gets to introduce the conservative of all conservatives… whomever could she be speaking of? Why it’s none other than the Mittster.
Heh. Nice headline. The kind I’d wish a NYT staffer who no longer needed his job snuck up on their web front page — even if it just lasted ten seconds. Juuuust enough for a screenshot.
Ingraham sure as hell doesn’t seem to have a clue that he’s dropping out. Would love to be a fly on the wall backstage when that shoe drops and she realizes she’s given this whole rah rah speech for Romney only to have him drop out in the next breath.
hey, you guys are gonna get a real kick out of this, I just went over to wikie and you are not gonna believe what’s up right now;
Mitt: Laura Ingraham is Gorgeous and Brilliant!
Truly in the eye of the beholder.
oops, could a moderator change the tags that highlight the last line in my quote on 21?
Gore to endorse Obama?
http://www.thewashingtonnote.c…..002818.php
that would be a kick in bills’ face, wouldn’t it?
McCain is really going to have to sell it, even with Mittens no longer in the race. From todays NYT:
When you have to tell your own “friends” six times that you are a republican… heh… pass the popcorn…
Christy! Calm down. *g*
Shrub will now ask Congress to make an addition to the so-called “stimulus bill” to wit: since Romney’s rich the amount of his personal fortune he spent on the campaign should be tax deductible. I mean he’s rich, right? That means he should get a tax break because he stimulated the economy with all that money, right? Grover Norquist would agree.
I didn’t know he was attracted to men
Mitt quoting Colin
“we only took enough land to bury our dead” Nice ring to that.
Goodbye mitt. So we are left with McCain. Can anyone tell me how it would be possible that this crazy maverick(Joke), war monger, with, seemingly no sense of what is needed, as george is, here in America, could possibly be elected, because if that is the case I am out of here with my family because they will lock this country down so fast it will make your head spin.
maybe he thought long and hard about Obama’s “return on your investment” comment at the last debate…
doesn’t anyone find it really strange wiki already has the info that mitt retired his campaign today?
I think that is bizzarre, is he writing his own wiki?
tee hee
man that had to smart
I know. It’s kinda creepy.
It’s just so dissonant to hear the words coming out of that mouth.
Then what is he, I wonder? He sure as hell isn’t a Democrat. And I don’t think “pure evil” works with Cheney sharing the planet.
Maybe he’ll get the nomination and form a “new” party with his BFF HoJo and declare himself and “Independent Republican”.
Can someone ’splain to me why a growing population is necessary for a robust economy (as Romney avers)?
Any bets on whether KLo is deep in the cooking sherry and Kleenex with added lotion at this point in the speech? *snuffle*
They can call it the Bastards Party.
ROFL!
The GOP Caucus in Alaska chose Romney – almost overwhelmingly. McCain came in 4th behind Paul. The votes aren’t even done being counted here, and their preferred guy is branded a loser. I’m loving this…
‘Cause it takes a whole lotta serfs to run a manor.
So it is Deputy Dog and Huckleberry Hound on the Repug side…
BTW the AZ election observers came and spoke at our DFA group last night and said that there was something very hinky in the Repug vote count. The mail-in votes with Romney 47% & McCain 41% but the at poll scanned in ballots flip the percentages exactly. These guys have a grant to evaluate the integrity of our voting processes & systems.
McCain’s alleged liberal bonafides are designed and promoted by the SCLM to court Democratic and Democratic-leaning Independent voters. The best thing that we can do is to take it (the BS liberal bonafides) away from him. He is a Republican and we need to help him make that stick like glue.
And Huckabee throws a party, “Grilled squirrel for everyone!”
I’d start packing.
Remember that half of the electorate is brain damaged.
Reference: 2000, 2004.
A HoJo VP would be the answer to Sean Hannity’s prayers.
Oh dear, “They hate our freedom!”
I’m waiting for him to say atheists are the cause of 9/11.
Thanks for the explanation. I forgot to learn that in graduate school. *g*
Willard Walks
Golly Guy- we’ll miss ya!!
mccain is in fact their only hope, he actually will get some swing voters, he will also get some people that want to give the republicans one last try
nobody else had a chance
Knowing how popular Romney was among the republican candidates, I don’t see a spot in a McCain administration for Mitley.
Everything that is coming out of Mitt’s mouth makes me want to upchuck & he speaks for the bush/cheney crowd.
McCain is liberal in the same way that Arlen Specter is liberal. That is – he grandstands for the rights of the common man – and turns around and votes in favor of the Corporatocracy every time.
I’ve never really listened to Willard before. What a crock he spouts.
With regards to what Romney was just saying about family values, every child should have both a father And a mother…
When I first met this gal at work, I asked her about the name “female gendered” which is tatooed on her arm. She said, Oh that’s my wife. We’ve been married for 7 years. I asked her if they had any kids and she whipped out the photos. Real cute little boy they adopted.
I just didn’t have the heart to tell her that her life style is the reason our country is such a mess. I mean, had they not adopted that baby, maybe Mittens could have, and taught that sweet baby how to treat the family dog.
Poor Mittens, it’s not about him… It’s about America.
Guess we need some people to work to balance out the people who want to relax and collect social security? If that’s the issue, then the need for a growing population presumes a growing number of elderly. The conservative solution is to suspend medicare and let em all pass on to their rewards. Problem solved!!
Those goopers have an answer to EVERYTHING.
Of course immigration accomplishes the same thing and the profile of many immigrants is a better match for the jobs the goopers have created- why do they HATE them so?
What Mitt Romney spent on his campaign is nondeductible for income tax purposes.
I listened to bush ‘I care about the poor’ breakfast prayer & now Mitt. I should know better. I won’t be able to eat for the rest of the day.
The news is a laugh a day. CPAC meeting with McCain reports the Repug org trained and lectured them on how to play nice with Mac. Clap lots and show support like good Republicans. Did I really hear that on C-SPAN? I say revolt and show your true feelings.
So does Willard write this off as an active loss or a passive one?
really?
I am surprised at this, I would think running for president is would be a write off
oo demi, Mitt deserved that
That is what scares the shit out of me. I live in Oregon and feel relatively confident of our system of voting but everywhere else, it seems like if the vote is not how one want s it, they wave their magic wand and poof they win, like elections in some country like say Kazakhstan.
written by the unseen hand
Susan Love (http://www.susanlovemd.com/)and Helen Cooksey are acquaintances of mine. They took the case of the other partner being able to adopt the child (Susan bore their daughter, artificial insemination from sperm of a male relative of Helen’s) all the way to SCOTUS.
Not really. I understand from a colleague that he and many others were “live updating” the Superbowl Wiki while the game was in progress.
Damn edit that should be in response to Katymine@43
Me bozo
Well, here’s the good news: we now know who we have to beat. And I think McCain has given us some good material to work with.
Good on them!
What was the decision?
Amen
not so fast though
we got rid of ghouliani too fast, it would have been so easy to beat him it’s not even funny, we got rid of mitt too fast, he would have also been a snap to beat
we need to hold off on our material against mccain till he’s gold
Kleenex w/added lotion! Hahahahahaha! Remind her not to wipe her glasses eith it.
(I will write to you, but as I am home sick today, I’m only good for snarky one liners. Not thoughtful dialogue. :)
Oh, I agree. For example, there’s plenty of time before we have to roll out the “bomb, bomb Iran” attack ads.
Yes, the other partner can adopt. In other words, they won. Daughter (Katie) is now in college, Stanford iirc.
I wonder if his accountants took a look at what the value of his stock investments were at the Start of the campaign and what they are now? Mitt may not be as rich as he was a year ago. He may not be a $50 million-dollar man…but more like $10 million…and his campaign may have eaten a lot of THAT up.
Need to watch out for that Huckabee surge. *g*
The conservatives love him but didn’t contribute. Heh.
Lived in Oregon for 19 years and do trust their mail in voting system. They do not have a political environment which we do here. Like seeing one of Sheriff Joes deputies wandering around the secure tabulation room seen by the observers. Our scary toughest Sheriff is BFF with McCain…
Didn’t take Willard long to bolt. Talking heads see a gooper advantage now as McCain can drift through the remaining primaries without spending much money or getting the shit kicked out of him by someone with a half a billion dollars to squander on the opportunity….
Meanwhile dems will continue to empty their war chests and create mortal wounds as the battle continues…
Talking heads may be right this time.
It’s a debt…like a business debt. You take it off the income, I believe. I doubt Mitt will be paying any taxes thuis year, and if he plays it right he may go tax-free for the next three.
So all his talk about the wealthy paying “more” under the Democrats didn’t really apply to HIM!
Now, that is a great story.
Best news I’ve heard in quite a while.
Thanks for the uplift.
When Hillary loans her campaign 5M, her bank account feels it. When Romney throws tens of millions at his campaign, he barely notices. It’s just a check book bottom line reconciliation. There’s lots more where that came from.
Those Rs don’t have any fight in them.
Down to McCain and Huckabee.
Wow, who’d a thunk it.
You’re welcome. They’re nice people.
Best campaign commercials for the dems will be pure McCain clips….
McCain sayin we’ll stay 100 years in Iraq
McCain singin Bomb bomb bomb- bomb bomb Iran
McCain holding Bush in a love lock and kissin his armpit.
Any sentence spoken by McCain with the word “bush” in it- spoken in a tone of adoration.
There’s plenty out there- hope someone’s collecting it.
Turn McCain into Bush.
And BTW, Susan Love is a breast cancer guru, so anyone with that disease should check out her website. She also wrote against hormone replacement therapy long before her side won that arguement. She’s one of my heros. http://www.amazon.com/Susan-Lo…..038;sr=1-2
Howard Dean has suggested that the Democratic candidates actually get together and resolve a ticket before the Primaries are over just to prevent an all out spending fiasco that would kill either’s chances in the General Election. That might piss off some of the latter Primary States.
But maybe both could agree on undertaking some spending limits in the upcoming months.
P.S. The elephant in the room that no one has talked about is that the southern states will simply not vote for a Mormon.
_______________
but they’ll sure’s hell vote for Huckabee ………..
“Down to–”
Don’t forget Paul.
Should be a jolly next gooper debate. Will McCain try to out “Jesus” the Huckster? Stay tuned.
McCain failed to show up and vote for the stimulus package that had benefits for military & vets…. after all they can fight for 100 years
Hate to drop in and run off but I must bring Molly to the groomer. I’ll check in later. Will Mac be on C-Span3 this afternoon to address CPAC? Can’t find it.
No worries Demi, get better
Is that Sherrod Brown’s normal voice?
Woooot!
Yes. It was announced on air. I think at 3pm ET.
I think that I perceive the approach you’re using, but I can’t see a bad debt deduction (nonbusiness or business) under Internal Revenue Code Section 165 or 166 (more research needed) for what he’s paying out of his own pocket to run for office.
My continuing rant-It should all be free, he said Ideologically.
McCain doesn’t “do” economics….
So have Coulter, Hannity and Beck jumped out the window yet?
Damn, I wish I had a TV in my office….
Hmmm, does anyone know these folks and how much will it hurt having them on the Federal Reserves board? Randall Kroszner, Elizabeth Duke and Larry Klane
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. President George W. Bush said on Thursday that the Senate needs to confirm his three nominees to the Federal Reserve’s Board of Governors as soon as possible to the positions which are important for the economy.
http://www.reuters.com/article…..38;sp=true
Susan Love is a leading breast cancer researcher — at the CWA last year in Boulder, she gave a great presentation on the current understanding of the risks, types, and treatments for breast cancer.
I have several CD recordings of her presentation — anyone interested?
This can’t get any funnier for those who are enjoying the GOP meltdown.
Their options are now down to the two least rigidly rightwing men, McCain and Huckabee, for the die hard faithful.
That and they are still going to be badgered by Ron Paul.
Jeebus, that is funny.

Tula is up with Border Crossings Start in the Boardroom
If only Mitt had bought that blimp. It would have carried him to the general election.
I’d love it if they could get the clip from the Simpson’s where Homer is leaning over baby Lisa’s cradle and says “And I’ve just put the first installment of your college savings plan in Lincoln Savings and Loan.”
Then a huge DOHHHHHH! With Homer’s head transmogrifying into John McCain…saying something about his involvement with the Keating Five real-estate/S&L scandal.
“John McCain says he knows all about how to resolve the the sub-prime crisis….You believe him DON’T YOU?”
Then a Homeric “Doohhhhhhh!”
I highly doubt that the reason Dean wants an agreement is based in the campaign’s finances (or lack thereof). Unless, of course, BigDogg has had a lil’ comin’ to Jesus with Dean.
This could prove interesting.
‘NEW YORK (Reuters) – U.S. authorities arrested 54 organized crime suspects on Thursday including three they considered high-ranking members of the Gambino crime family, officials said.
More arrests were made in Italy in a trans-Atlantic operation targeting some of the most-wanted Mafia suspects in both countries.’

Sorry to be off-topic, but I need a reality check on this Florida/Michigan delegate thing. I voted for Edwards and could go either way with Obama and Hillary, but to me, if Hillary gets the nomination by seating those two delegations, that has “stolen election” and “Florida 2000″ written all over it. I’ve just been through 8 years of that. No matter how I look at it, it makes me nauseous and I can’t see how it would ruin everything.
Am I tripping? If so, talk me off the ledge. If not, the DNC phone number is
202-863-8000 and we should get some kind of call-in campaign going.
Romney went all out in insulting just about every demographic except rich people. It’s all about low taxes, no regulation and robbing little old ladies out of their social security.
Howard Dean has suggested that the Democratic candidates actually get together and resolve a ticket before the Primaries are over just to prevent an all out spending fiasco that would kill either’s chances in the General Election. That might piss off some of the latter Primary States.
________________
i think so. and not just for saving money. they need to get together and look at what needs to happen. the two camps need, really need to sort out how they can work together regardless of which one wins. they need each other. i won’t be holding my breath though …..
After calling several Hillary campaign numbers, it’s clear to me that they fully intend to win the nomination by seating those two delegations. They’ve all got their talking points and are drinking large quantities of Kool Aid (”the voters of MI need to have their voices heard … bla bla bla”). They just don’t get the negative implications of it going down that way.
My understanding was that he told them some arrangement would have to be agreed upon to avoid going through the primaries and having a long gap with no candidate awaiting convention. That would be bad news. They would tear each other and the party apart during that time. Hopefully, we’ll have a resolution before then.
I hope the organizers at CPAC have removed all sharp objects from the tables.
Romney to Quit Presidential Race
—-
So if the remaining Dems can act like adults they may have some good free press for the next month.
that would be a kick in bills’ face, wouldn’t it?
—-
I gotta imagine that deep down Gore thinks Bill’s lesser moments caused him the election. Not that he likely thinks about it much anymore. Most people have an external reason ready for failure (and I am sure he has internal reasons he has pinned on himself as well since he is a smart person).
I am out of here
—-
If so, then ditto.
Can someone ’splain to me why a growing population is necessary for a robust economy (as Romney avers)?

So the younger generations can pay the bills of the older generations.

and just as important if not more so: what will the voters in both of those states do in November?
McCain is liberal in the same way that Arlen Specter is liberal. That is – he grandstands for the rights of the common man – and turns around and votes in favor of the Corporatocracy every time.

Yeah, but its the DAY AFTER (or sometimes 2 days) the story was covered – so no need to report on the “flip-flop” (actually as you pointed out the “grand stand”).
How I wish the candidates and their ‘advisors’ would do that. However, they don’t want to be mean, and even if other independent groups do ads with McCain singing ‘bomb, bomb Iran’, they will be sued and prevented from airing them. Yet they wiill run swill against our candidate.
It should be easy to defeat McCain, but the media are on his side, I fear.
I wonder if his accountants took a look at what the value of his stock investments were at the Start of the campaign and what they are now? Mitt may not be as rich as he was a year ago. Yeah selling stocks in this market must have really been killing him.

I agree. I will support anyone (assuming no new scandels) that won the other Primaries fair and square. Those two were not a real contest, and even stats from them have a 100% margin of error.
Heard at the Political Ticker, wrt The Mittster:
Mark: I’m a conservative Christian and I will NEVER vote for McLIBERALCain…I plan to write-in Mitt CONSERVATIVE Romney…even at the cost that Hillarious Clinton or Obama win. : (
JCL: I feel sorry for the supporters being left out of the loop, but it could have been worse……Mitt could have shown up at his campaign headquarters and found the doors locked
Stacy: Well, Romney is always changing his mind, so who knows he might come back!
DAVE IN ME: Mittmentum has died. Now we can sit back and watch the Republican party cannibalize itself over the prospect of John McCain being their nominee – FUN!!!!!
RHETT: Huckaboooom
HYDER-KHAN: McCain should pick Mr. Romney as his VP.
McCain is no liberal at all- he’s a Goldwater Republican- gone bad by exposure to GW Bush
Yep. One definition of the very very rich is the number of people in their household employment: the housekeeper; the butler; the dog walker; the personal trainer; the nanny; the cook(s); the chauffeur(s); the grounds keeper; the gardener (these two are different); the pilot for the private jet; the captain for the big yacht; and oh, lets not forget the “personal assistant.” I’m sure I left some out–help anyone?
the hairdresser…
Hey demi–did you my message to you this morning?
jane: “Watching the GOP go Naderite would be some quality entertainment”.
do you mean Perot-ite, as in gop voters jumping ship to vote outside the party in the general election? i’m hoping you’re not using this term (naderite) in the unenlightened sense, as those do who continue to believe in the fantasy-based sense of “ralph brought us W” when he did nothing of the kind and wasn’t even among the top 5 reasons the 2000 election was stolen from the will of the american people.
I suppose Mitt would fit this bill…
One person I forgot: the private tutor for the kids, or “governess” for class…
MsMolly…don’t worry about Tagg’s future windfall….Old Dad is worth
a couple of hundred million at the moment and within a few more years,
the fortune could easily double…..Ole Mitt looked pathetic during his
speech….sadly pathetic….his speech was off the wall and even my
husband remarked…what is with him….he is just rambling and saying
the craziest things….HOW TRUE! Mitt also received the boos from the
group….don’t think any of them were too happy with them..
Since I live in MA, we are well aware of the ego of Mitt…glad to see him
withdraw…but now we wonder if he will try to take on Kerry or even Kennedy
when he has to run again. Time will tell!
That was snark.
Well now the Romney boys can park the Winnebago and go enlist and support the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
