No one could have foreseen Bush not giving a damn!
The Bush administration has failed to nominate any candidates to a newly empowered privacy and civil-liberties commission. This leaves the board without any members, even as Congress prepares to give the Bush administration extraordinary powers to wiretap without warrants inside the United States…
Previously, this board had been set up by the Bush Administration and staffed almost exclusively with cronies who always managed to find that, lo and behold, Bush never did anything wrong! It was so miserably partisan and kowtowing to Bush that even Lanny Davis (LANNY DAVIS?!!) the sole Democrat on it had resigned in protest.
In 2007, with the Democrats in charge the Board was made into a typical bi-partisan commission requiring the approval of Congress for it’s members. As of January 30th, all of the previous lackeys members terms have expired, without any replacements named. All while FISA provisions are being considered by Congress.
But don’t worry Joe Lieberman and Susan Collins are on the case. I’m sure they will demand FISA be held up until this group can monitor and attempt to prevent unwarranted intrusions into your privacy.
Just kidding, of course, worry.

g’morning attaturk
*worrying*
Good morning Attaturk…
If Harry had stones, he’s find the nearest microphone and offer up some “recess appointments” for the slots, just to jab at something, anything these fools have done.
But I’m not sure if we would better off with his lackeys than with Chimpy’s.
the only stones harry has are the ones rattling around in the void that used to be a spine

i’ll put that up on the news ticker, wigwam. thanks
Cool!
Hmmmmm. I just learned about this: http://www.wikileaks.org/wiki/Wikileaks
But… But… But you make it sound like Bush doesn’t care about my privacy or civil liberties!
depends on the size of the contributions one has made to the GOP whether or not he cares is my best guess.
Wonder what the price tag is that’s been paid by all of us for the establishment of this non-functioning board?
wigwam @ 7 –
I was just reading an article that identified Wikileaks as the source for some piece of leaked info. that’s just come out….can’t remember where (very sorry) b/c I’ve just finished hitting *all* my usual blog sites to check the latest news. LOVE that “uncensored, untraceable mass document leaking” part. Some day, if the fates are kind and I live long enough, hopefully a few bits of truth will begin to filter out for public consumption.
From CommonDreams
but…
oops, everything after the “but…” should’ve been part of the quote
would you like me to fix that for you smgumby?
Thankee!

Wonder what ol’ AK’s been up to these days? *g*
Hey, Suz…..you be up late/?/early; must be a “show the house” day.
Please Suz, you’re too good to me.
(coincidently – I married a Sooz!)
Good Morning! Egregious will now be on a different time zone and she’ll me missed for us early birds or in the case of Suzanne, night owls. Waccamaw, I found the cartoon about the dog. It’s actually in a book titled “Things are Looking UP” by Lynn Johnston. It’s a collection of For Better or For Worse cartoons and is on page 23.
do a hard refresh of the page and its all fixed
had a lookie loo showing at 5pm sun evening. got flipped around by a blasted 5 1/2 hour afternoon nap yesterday and was up most of the night last night. tonight is just a repeat performance.

You *are* a sweetheart; thank you so much for going to all the trouble! {{{smooch}}} Will check to see if B&N has the book tomorrow.

Been there; done that wrt the naps and it is near enough to drive you barking mad when it happens. Ah, for the younger days when I zzzzzz’d eight hours straight with no hassle. :-(
Good morning, pups. It’s Monday so it must be Kristol [sigh]. We also have Mr. Cohen and Mr. Krugman in the NYT. Bill “AWATT” Kristol has typed something called “Dyspepsia on the Right,” and wonders if conservatives will sulk if John McCain is the Republican presidential nominee. Some of their heads are already exploding, Billy… Mr. Cohen’s column is titled “The Cold War as Ancient History,” and he says that the subject of communism seems about as riveting and relevant to post-wall German high school students as the Holy Roman Empire. Paul Krugman once again is the only one who actually discusses [gasp] issues. He says the difference between the health care plans of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama could well be the difference between achieving universal health coverage and falling far short.

The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and the biscuits are out of the oven. 351 days of W left. Have a good day.
I actually read kristol today (just for the hoo of it)…..NEVER. AGAIN.
Marion, I never got a chance to thank you for that Dowd column you highlighted yesterday.
WOW is all I can say. I don’t think I have ever read a more pretentious piece of nonsense in my life!
That someone PAYS her to do that in a NATIONAL FORUM sends a shudder through me.
Waccamaw, No problem, sitting on the floor, scanning a few old books of cartoons about dogs is fun. Krugman once again has an important point on mandates. I don’t think that our country is ready for mandates and what we’ll achieve is total gridlock. The first step is to rid the country of pre-existing health conditions and set up Medicare like insurance for all. That will give people a choice.
Morning made-the-coffee Marion.Hats off to all Giants Fans on their win, well -earned, too.
Wondering if there are any thoughts from NYS on the impact of the SB parade falling on election day?
Be back for my answer. Good day everyone.
May this be the last Feb 4 that we ever have a George Bush in the WH.
What is that you say?
NO!!!!
time for me to try for some sleep – g’nite all
call your congresscritters about fisa
It’s funny, before kickoff they had a big advert with players and coaches urging folks to register and vote
The sad thing is that Dowd actually used to be a good writer years ago. I used to enjoy reading her columns when I was still in NYC. I don’t know what happened to her, maybe cocktail wienie poisoning… If you think she’s bad, don’t even attempt Kristol. He’s pretty much guaranteed to drop your IQ level 10 points if you read him. I have a Hazmat suit or I wouldn’t attempt it myself.
Morning, Attaturk…
Morning, all…
She still is…She’s just become highly cynical and somewhat bitter. And it ain’t been pretty.
In that respect she’s still TOO good a writer! I meant good in the sense of actually used to write columns about issues, and without the dripping fangs and claws… Welcome to Dawn Patrol!
Good morning, all! Woke up too early this morning and first thing I read was this article (albeit OT) by Michael Chabon in WaPo. It might be helpful if you haven’t decided who to vote for in the primaries and is a great read even if you have.
!
Thanks! As you can see, I need breaks for breakfast and coffee and all that… Things are kinda slow at the Lake at dawn, eh?
Peaceful, we calls it! NPR just informed me that St. John McCain “took a break from campaigning to watch the Super Bowl with his friend Sen. Joe Lieberman.” How, um, bipartisan of them… Feh.
Thanks for that link. Good piece…
And Huckabee just said on MSNBC that he’s not representing Wall Street Repugs, but Wal Mart Repugs…
they have dismantled our government and they cannot be held responsible
criminals will not be prosecuted, thieves will not be returning the spoils
the infrastructure is not maintained and repairs are far more expensive then maintenance
our schools are under funded under equipped
our military is devastated, not even able to address an event on our own shores if one occcurs
our jobs, our industry, our future, all exported overseas
integrity establshed over the entire history of our country turned into the most vile hatred for any country on the planet
and our enemies band together against us
HOW IS IT POSSIBLE THIS MAN REMAINS IN OFFICE?
what the hell is going on here?
we voted the democrats in office to reign this terror in, to begin the process of rebuilding
TO BRING CRIMINALS OF THE STATE TO THE BAR OF JUSTICE
yet instead, they are rewarded, they are ignored, and they continue their depravity
Good morning all, talking about writer etc;) I probably missed this, but this is worth re-reading..

Hey Norske! How’s Wisconsin this morn? St Croix River valley, right? Minneapolis is balmy…
nice, i’ll vote for him.
It really sucks when I call one right. But then again, even a broken clock is right twice a day.
In BlueBayState market, when we were truly blue from defeat, we had an Obama advert.
