Skippy and Jon Swift are promoting Blog Amnesty day, in order to encourage folks to visit places you might not ordinarily frequent. And Pam Spaulding created this fabulous widget to make it easy.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go take it for a test drive…

Wow! What a great widget! I know some of those places, but I’m about to dive in and learn about more…
Looks fun!
Maria Shriver endorses Obama.
kewl thang!
What a cool widget!
Backroad Blogging.
Oh that’s happening a lot mommy and daddy making different choices. Innerstin.
I sure miss Bob Geiger, but ya gotta love the General’s Are Women Fit to Lead? Are Men Fit to Serve?
Agreed…. plus the Saturday funnies…
The General claims to be an 11. I believe he’s at least a 12…
OMG, looking at the train station in China (CNN), I can’t believe how much better their train, station, and tracks look than ours.
I’ll bet they invest in infrastructure. Here, not so much…
What a great widget … and there are so many neat blogs. I always read Moon of Alabama and Main and Central – both of which give me interesting views from outside the usual.
thanks for joining in, jane! i knew i could count on fdl!
anything for you, skippy.
Cute thing-y!
I saw Juno last night. First movie I’ve seen in over a year I think.
It was sweet.
someone should add Philly Bits.
ray does great blogging.
I read that Fox started their Super Bowl broadcast with Pat Tillman’s widow reading the Declaration of independence… is that a put-on, or did it really happen? (Actually it was from TexBetsy over at EW’s place, so I’d be pretty surprised if it was incorrect!)
(signed)
Sports-Challenged Hmmm.
Here’s video of Maria’s endorsement.
Hi Jane,
What’s the update on the writers’ strike?
When I rode the trains in China, they still were a little unclear on basic concepts of sanitation. The ex and I were bunked with a couple of older Chinese men and they never let their socks touch the floor. The ex asked why and one Chinese man opened the door and pointed at the woman cleaning the floors. She mopped out the filthy toilet bowl and then proceeded to mop the floor. ACK
You actually had a toilet bowl? We had just a hole in the floor but the food was good on the train.
actually, it was a bunch of players and coaches and others connected to the nfl (including tillman’s widow) who recited it – they cut from one to another on and on. it was kinda surreal listening to the words and juxtaposing them with where we are as a country.
It was a Fox sports with the NFL…. Tillman only provided a few phrases, it was spread across demographics but had military, firemen and others as back drops…. Still do not know how I feel about it….
It is GREAT that someone is actually broadcasts the Declaration of Independence text but….. still not sure about the hyper Americanism/militarism with football.
I don’t know, I should probably try to find out, huh?
Been a bit busy…
UAW Will Not Endorse Dem in Primary
WASHINGTON (AP) – The head of the United Auto Workers said Sunday his union will aggressively work to elect either Hillary Rodham Clinton or Barack Obama to the White House, but reiterated that it will not endorse either one for the Democratic nomination.
I think I saw that 4 movie companies had settled, but don’t hold me to that.
Hey! Blogs less travelle missed Progressive Democrats of Hawaii!
Bob in HI
rosalind @ 23, katymine @ 24 –
Thanks much for the info. I would very much like to hear about the background on that, in case anyone here happens to know.
Last I heard were rumors about a settlement in the works, but I don’t have the connections you folks do :)
Well it was usually a hole where you could watch the tracks go by and usually a lot of diarrhea on the floor…but I didn’t to discourage people from train travel in China.
WGA news? From the FDL newsbox.
That’s what I saw, but it’s not in the current newsbox. How do you access older ones?
It happened, but she read a few lines toward the middle not the beginning. The whole thing was started off with a statement how most americans can’t recite the Declaration of Independence, hell I would be glad if most americans read a paper everyday. It was really a tribute to the soldiers in the military which to me at this time means war=patriotism.
Doubt it’s like that any more. This was back in the fairly early days when they really began to promote tourism. I loved the place and the people.
omg that album cover game over at Republic of T has wasted all my post-writing time.
help!
use teh Google …. fox nfl declaration of independence
several hits from 2002 forward, it looks like something the NFL has been insisting to be in part of the entertainment section of the bowl games.
Pregame show not all about football
The league and the teams are in control of what is shown in the pre, post & half time shows. If you do not like what is shown at the games of your choice, now you know who to complain to. The networks just hire the TeeVee crews to broadcast what the customer sets up.
I haven’t made it through the blogs less traveled yet…
But I have a made it a point to check out state political blogs, esp. those with interesting House/ Senate races. They provide a wealth of info re: the local scene.

There was sort of a war after the declaration.
When in doubt, read the instructions. *g*
How do you feel about mt man Petty doing “Won’t Back Down” at halftime?
I feel better about Petty singing at halftime than I do about McCain co-opting “My Country” for his theme song.
I got goose bumps listening to it, as I always do … The Constitution ranks right up there with all other sacred texts for me …
Does he sound even better now than in the 80’s or is it because of the lack of talent now …
Did you see the pictures? I haven’t seen them on the web, they were on CNN tv. They are nothing like you describe.
Yea, ya never know what these clowns will do
I got in a little hometown jam
And so they put a rifle in my hands
Lack of talent? Not sure what your point is there but I’ll resist.
The best thing about this year’s halftime show? No apparel malfunctions – no offense Tom.
Half time soooo here I am And Jane that new linky thing is great!… Tom Petty is great as usual..
… I was just checking out DU and Nancy Gregg’s Journal and she has some words for all of us here at the Lake:

Link (hope it works as last evening they sure weren’t)http://journals.democraticunderground.com/NanceGreggs/340
Makes great sense!! Vote for whomever has a D behind the name for President!
Now that Petty’s over, I’m officially giving everyone permission to talk about football. I know it sometimes causes bruised feelings to just for this thread.
Not that I even know who’s playing.
The team that plays in the same town you went to the baseball game in.
What I meant was, does Tom sound better now than he did 20 years ago or is his music better than what’s out there now ?
What a treat to watch …
coupla blogs noted over at drifty’s place, by some people y’all might know…

Don’t like football? Here’s the alternate halftime show from “In Living Color” Warning, it makes fun of gay folks.
Fighting Bob
I took my little sister to see Petty at the Paramount in Seattle…um…a very long time ago.
In relation to one of the points brought up during book salon, I would like to let folks know that when the New England Patriots built their new stadium a few years ago, they self-financed and paid for it themselves with the exception of $30M from the state for highway and infrastructure improvements. I believe that was less than 10% of the total cost.
It’s not perfect but it beats the hell out of eminent domain and gouging the taxpayers for the full cost.
Oh I remember that. Good marketing ploy.
Here’s a revolting thought. Lieberman for Secretary of State.
and might i also throw out:
http://letsibeledmondsspeak.blogspot.com/
I don’t know, last time I saw him, about 5 years ago, he was great. The documentary by Bogdanvich, “Running Down a Dream ” is really fun and the box includes their 30th anniversary show in Gainesville and it smokes. Even has Stevie for those of you who liked Fleetwood Mac after they were a bules band.
Hear! Hear!
And, better still, the public supported stadium in Manhattan was killed.
Have a nice 2nd half, peas!
I won’t ask how long ago:>)
There’s a girl announcer on the Superbowl?
Noooooo football talk.. I’m melllllting. Football is socialized torture and it’s bad for children and other living things.
Why is making fun of gay folks still perfectly socially acceptable?
I haven’t seen or heard Tom for more than 10 years, he sounded like finely aged wine … Stevie Nicks is one of my faves too, I’ll go see about that Box … Thanks Raven !
Thanks Jane! I have been just dying to talk about the Superbowl. ;)
Heck, I’ve been holding my tongue on that, and on another issue.
I went and read RGB’s link to the post at Patriot Boy- about misogyny. Interesting article. I think that there’s as much fear of women and of losing power they have accrued, as there is misogyny. But maybe it’s the same thing.
http://patriotboy.blogspot.com…..it-to.html
Good picks. I’ve been trying to stop by both those sites whenever I have a few moments.
Do tell.
Hang in there…just 30 more minutes and Siun will have some meat for you to chew on.
Two sides of the same coin…
Here’s a good one! What the candidates will look like in four years.
Try teaching teenagers that saying “that’s gay” is derogatory.
But they gave Steinbrener a public park and millions to build his new stadium on it
As I tell my nephew, they didn’t have electricity back then. It’s a wonderful modern convenience.
Oh yeah. I was thinking Jets. Well, 1/2 is better than 2/2. And, as If Steinbrenner needs it.
Now you have completely exhausted my knowledge of this subject.
Um … Noonan @ 76, you used my name with marshen’s query …
hahahhaha. I drive3 past it… and Bernie K’s buddies and Roodi’s are involved in the contracting… of course.
Sorry P – I’m watching the game, still shocked the Pack isn’t there. :(
We are not surprised.
D’ya think NYSAG Cuomo will go after them? I’m sure they’re crooked up to their eyebrows & cuomo has political ambitions.
… why did you have to go and remind me … :-(
((( Bret & Noonan )))
Now I know how the guy who spends the whole game on the bench feels.
:-(
It wouldn’t be so bad if they had different announcers. As much as I respected Aikman as a QB, I hate how sure he is of himself as an announcer. The trait that made him a winning player makes him a pompous talking head. Not as bad as Collinsworth or Howie, but he just bothers me to no end.
I tell my grandkids that you had to pickup the phone and wait for the operator to ask number please? :>) Actually my aunt Mable did work as an operator and and did say each time Number Please and then she manually connected you to your call in a small town named…. you guessed it Nahant,,,
((( RBG )))
How goes it ?
cute widget in theory. I loaded it onto the laptop but it doesn’t work—for whatever reason.
As for new sites, I met Susie Madrak last summer at YKos. She’s a Philly lady and her site Suburban Guerilla I’ve just added to my tabs. Good stuff.
Yes. I was there for 8 months in 2002 and I took those trains…
What’s Belichik smoking … passing on 4th and 13 ?!! Does he remember that he’s in the lead … in the 3rd quarter?
Er, yes…*g*
One of the last teachers I had for a teacher (I work where I went to school) is retiring this year. He and his wife are part of a group traveling to China to work on repairing sections of the Great Wall. I can’t wait to have him come back and talk to my classes about his trip. I’ll ask him about the trains!
Pretty dang well. You?
Repairing the Great Wall is a wonderful thing to do. I was there in 00 and it needs a lot of resotration. It’s really great where the work has already been done.
China’s pace of modernization is truly staggering …
I cant get it to work in several places, I keep trying
It reminded me of leaving beautiful Frankfurt for a return trip to LA. Left absolute beauty and arrived in 50 year old infrastructure. Airport and highways. I was so embarrassed because there were so many Europeans arriving in LA for the first time.
We’ve got to get this fixed.
Excellent ! We got 15 inches of snow on Friday … spent the last 2 days building forts and chucking snowballs at the kids, drinking Hot Cocoa and eating Pizza, etc.
Hey, is it just our cable, or did the sound die during the commercials?
Did I mention book salon takes more work than most anything else we do?
I love it but it is time consuming. We have some good books, hosts and authors coming up, though, you know?
*g*
Drinking hot cocoa, sure.
Latest on Writers Guild strike:
Efficiency is overrated ! /s
((((( Loo Hoo )))))
America invented Sheetrock and they build structure NOT to last. We live in a throw away society these days and only museums and the like are built to last or “museum quality”. Americans don’t care. Compare any cafe in Italy with a coffee shop in america. We live in crap and we don’t ask for better. We just tear it down or throw it away.
We’re slobs, no class.
Thanks for the heads up, Jane…*g*
Jane, the book salons are incredible. You have snagged some great thinkers.
How about Paul Hawkin?
Where’s Marcy?
Her husband got Kobe hooked on “fumble drill” with his fuzzy jack toy. He can’t catch anything but he can fall on it.
He’s inspired by the Superbowl.
Today’s Book Salon was great!
not sure of the spelling of his name…he’s an economist.
I just knew you were gonna say something … *g* … Hot Cocoa with the kids, some insanely expensive Cognac with my neighbor, who must have an uncle in Monaco … *g*
The LA Times has a few more details.
Yep. That’s what I heard this am from a writer friend.
He sounded very encouraged and he’s an insider.
ditto…
It’s just that at some point I forgot that he’s a NYTimes reporter as well as an author, coz I asked him a question I shouldn’t have asked a reporter. But he handled it pretty well. A classy kinda guy…
Thanks!
Well, Book Salon is truly great. I’m a bibliomaniac–read books, books on tape, buy books that I don’t have time to read, glued to BookTV, Book Salon. So thank you very very much.
Linky no work…a 404…
My chihuahua is a retriever. She’ll play retrieve-a-tennis-ball for an hour. Dogs are weird.
Thanks.
Hey–check your incoming in a few…
… she might be humoring you … **g**
Hate it when I do that.
http://www.latimes.com/busines…..3513.story
Too bad the game itself has been uninspiring. Just the commercials. But you can always put the money (so to speak) on those…
K.
Uninspired? Hell, I think I’d rather watch Loo Hoo’s dog and the tennis ball.
ROFL
… how’s dem nails, hon ?!! *g*
Thanks again…
Great! Now the prez candidates can stop getting a break from the strike…Pace Leno, Letterman, and so on.
Dear Jane,
Greetings from Stevie and the Bear.
Hope all is well and positive in your world.
Really nice widget, BTW.
Gonna put ’er up on BruinDesign.com —
