I believe the Pulp Fiction lines would be:
“Whose motorcycle is this?”
“It’s not a motorcycle, baby, it’s a chopper.”
“Whose chopper is this, then?”
“This is Zed’s chopper, baby.”
“Zed? Who’s Zed?”
“Zed’s dead, baby.”

My prediction: the groundhog won’t see his shadow, everyone will start tomatoes early indoors on their kitchen countertops and we’ll be trading recipes using massive amounts of tomatoes all summer.

A Triple Hot Fudge Sunday?
Last night I critcized KO’s skills as an interviewer. In short, I noted that Edward R. Murrow, he ain’t.
This critism went over like a turd in a punch bowl at a Monday morning sorority social.
Well, tonight I want to criticize him on his choice of topics. In his first story he featured Mrs. Charles Rangel. KO, great thanks for exposing
yourself as an unmitigated idiot. Please do everyone a favor and get back to covering the Mets.
Remember, just because he is the lone liberal voice in the MSM, doesn’t say anything aout his ability. We deserve much better.
My brother was such a huge influence about music for me. He made me listen to Eric Clapton when I was just 18.

By the way, Bush’s stooges are working on Iraqi timelines only they are called:
The Iraq chiefs are working off a blueprint that calls for “conditions-based withdrawal,” Crocker said. That could bring combat troops home by sometime next year if security conditions allow it but leave other forces in Iraq for long-haul missions such as training.
Fucking wordsmiths these guys.
-G
ah OK. just checkin!
Yes, lamer than a three legged dog with a sore foot.

I am in a big dilemma… I have no clue who to vote for on Tuesday….
Edwards has been my guy since 2003 and that was never an issue.
How do I decide? One minute it is Obama…. because I am really pissed that Hillary is trying to break the DNC rules which weakens Howard Dean then the Obama campaign pulls something stupid like the Harry & Louise ads about Hillary’s healthcare plan. Universal healthcare is a BIG issue for me.
ohmygawd, i have failed as a mother
baby girl just called and said she is voting for mccain because she likes his war policies
can i blame her father for this?
The reply didn’t take.
That was Bustednuckles youtube I found so very impressive.

Woo-hoo, I figured out KPIG!!
I signed up.

I would give my recommendation but The Lurking Mod could use some rest.
Oh Suzanne! How awful!
Where did she get the kool-aid?!
I am expecting a similar disappointment from my father any day now…
Tex, painless dreamless sweet sleep for you, may you awake rested and refreshed and pain-free.
‘Ats sumthing, isn’t it.
Yep.
The Lurking Mod….sleeps?!
Hey,
Bill Moyers wants to know what one book (other than the Bible) you would want the next president to take to the White House.
Hillary Clinton said the Constitution, because apparently it wasn’t used much in the present administration.
What book would you nominate? I’m thinking maybe Naomi Wolf’s The End of America: Letter of Warning to a Young Patriot.
Let Bill know.

Sure is, I’m checking out some of his other stuff now.
The conventional view is that Obama has cornered the “let’s be different” view while Hillary appears to be “more of the same”.
I say vote for whoever you think will piss of the Repugs more … and I do believe right now, that would be Obama …
i am still here. stomach won’t cooperate with the sleep plan.
Add Miss Klein’s tome, and it’s a tie IMO.
thanks – baby girl is living in Utah. you shudda heard the silence when i told her i was thinking of voting for romney.
That’s the second time TEOA has been recommended to me in the same night. Guess I better read my copy this weekend.
(Am I the only one who buys these books to reward the authors but can’t stay ahead of the growing pile?)
Suz if she is old enough to vote then it is here decision but… daym I don’t blame you for feeling bummed. But by now you have done what you can and she WILL make up her own mind. I just hope that she does her home work before voting…!
Delurking here, since you invited…
I agree. I was quite despondent this afternoon when I read that Reid (again) capitulated to the R’s. I was even ready to give up, crawl in bed and pull the covers over my head. Then I got angry and decided to find a way to fight back. I composed several emails and phone calls in my mind to my respective Senators, none of which would be, er, productive, shall we say.
So I’m open to suggestion. I live in California, so I have one good Senator, one shall we say not so good. I’ll spend the weekend on the phone or faxing, if that would help. (I’ve already called DiFi once, but I could do it again.) I could also email, send telegrams, hire skywriters, do whatever it takes.
I’ll be damned if I’ll let them destroy the Constitution and Rule of Law without a fight.
raising hand
my pile gets bigger right along with my wish list just based on book salon
Mark Broussard up on KPIG right now. Love and Happiness.
you are no longer a lurker but a pup :)
Feingold is quite pleased with this bill, though he says it still needs a bit of work … did I miss something ?
(No.)
hi kristine. welcome
see why i enjoy my time in the sty so much?
You have an irritated nerve?
My Doc told me once thats like getting a finger in the eye as a way to explain it to me.
Once it gets good and irritated, it’s kind of self inflammatory.
Once it’s started, it’s hard to get it calmed back down.
Yes’m!

Suz, a lot of our loved ones are going to vote for the wrong person or not vote at all … send them love and be patient … the light takes a little longer to turn on for some people …
Kristine I got this letter today from Weinerstain
Dear Mr. :
Thank you for your letter concerning impeachment proceedings against Vice President Richard Cheney. I appreciate the time you took to write and welcome the opportunity to respond.
In our most recent elections, the American people expressed clear disapproval with the path this country was on. They are tired of partisan politics and of an Administration that pays little heed to the wishes of the American people. They want-and deserve-a Congress that holds the Administration accountable and fulfills its Constitutional responsibility to check and balance the Executive branch. I share this sentiment and am determined to work hard and across party lines in the United States Senate to promote issues that are of real concern to most Americans, including the situation in Iraq and Afghanistan, homeland security, global warming, and lobbying and election reform.
At this time, however, I believe that impeachment proceedings against President Bush or Vice President Cheney will only divide the country even further, frustrating our hopes for a meaningful change in direction, while having little chance of success.
I have been deeply disappointed by many of this Administration’s actions and have been outspoken in those instances. Nevertheless, given the challenges our country faces I believe that we need to focus on constructive and cooperative steps that would lead us in the right direction.
Again, thank you for your letter. If you have any further questions or comments, please contact my office in Washington, D.C. at (202) 224-3841. Best regards.
Sincerely yours,
Dianne Feinstein
United States Senator
I am still fuming I haven’t been able to come up with a return letter… but I do know this she will never never get my vote again and hopefully next cycle..2012 I think I will work to elect whoever opposes her in the primaries… I know I will remind her of her oath to the constitution… she is a nimwited twit. Divide my ass it is going to unite this country if we can get impeachment done…
Who do you think fetches Suzanne’s coffee??
Sciatic is one of ‘em, sounds like. Thats a sonofabiscuit.
I had two lamenectomies and they took a chunk of bone out of my pelvis and broke it into little pieces and stacked them around the bottom vertebra where it meets the pelvis. took two years to fuse and ain’t been right fom day one. I got all kinds a misery with it, so I know ‘zactly what you are talkin about.
They did that to me when I was 25 yrs old.
I just turned 48.
I feel for ya hon. There ain’t no magic cure, but they have come a LONG ways since they got a hold of me.
grrrrrrrr
Thanks to all for the warm welcome.
Actually, I’ve been around since the Libby trial days, but never commented much. Mostly just love reading the comments. It’s like hanging out in a great old pub with friends, listening in on the conversations, learning lots and cheered by the thought that there are still good people in the wold fighting the good fight. You and all the other Firepups give me courage.

Check out Belvedere Chardonnay in Healdsburg Ca…they make a really yummy wine… they do ship to those states that allow it… We joined their wine club years ago and every other month we get two bottles of wine, we have never been disappointed!!
‘Night, ES…. dream sweetly.
We’ll see if all of these endorsements help Obama … I heard that Hillary has a huge lead in potential delegates on Super Tuesday …
hey ET – how cold is it up there tonight? i’m sitting right at 36 at the moment
Hi folks. Just got in from seeing “Not a Genuine Black Man” and thought I’d pop in to say hello.
Kinda like Lord of The Rings ? *g*
Was that a dig at Barack ?!! *g*
Just above zero F, wind at 5 knots, getting cloudy.
Hey, do you want it dry, or do want it warm? Can’t have both, them’s the rules. /snark
Eisenhower’s granddaughter endorses Sen. Barack Obama.
LauraD! how ya been?
thinking of a meetup at the end of feb or maybe first weekend of march – you gonna be able to come down?
Here Suz, something I have always liked.
Hi Laura!
The best thing would be to read Glenn Greenwald’s posting of this morning: http://www.salon.com/opinion/g…..index.html
Last week, Harry Reid showed vestiges of spine when he announced that he would force the Republicans to actually filibuster if they wished to require a 60-vote majority on the FISA-bill’s amendments:
Of course, the Republicans didn’t want to be on TV requesting Orwellian powers for Bush and retroactive immunity for Bush and the telcos for having alread implemented Orwellian surveillance.
Via Thursday’s agreement, Reid backed down. Per Glenzilla:
Augh, I miss ‘edit’.
love me some EC busted. saw him twice and he’s forking awesome. thanks.. tis a great tune.
Tallis is quite beautiful, thanks!
And goodnight.
Really.
ET, that’s forking cold!
Thanks for the *g*, you gave me the vapors for a minute! No. Brian Copeland is a wonder. It was the longest running solo show in S.F…..and worth going to.
She’s a lost cause, methinks. However, that doesn’t men we should give up. In fact, the more we bombard her with letters, faxes, phone calls, carrier pigeons or whatever she might finally get the hint.
Someone once made the observation about training a mule: First, hit it over the head with a 2X4 to get its attention…
ET, poor don – last in raising money and no money to pay them lawyers for the expected indictment(s).
All moderators do precisely what Suzanne does, just not as fast. She trained most of us.
I’ve been shoveling snow for half the day … so my brain is frozen … trying to warm up with lots of Cognac … now my Brain is numb … *g*
brian copeland did his show at one of our department christmas dinners. funny funny stuff he was saying to a room full of cops. brass ones :)
I’m sure there are some body parts that I really don’t need I’d give up to see him.
I am not sure a two by four would work with this one all she thinks about is twinkies and how many more she can get! She is a wannabe senator just look at her record…bushdog
I’m hangin’ in, thanks. I will do my best to be there, Suz. Would love to meet you and the gang face to face. My mother lives in Salinas….maybe I’ll bring her along. When I set up her computer last year, I put fdl on her bookmarks bar so she’d know what her ‘lil darlin’ was up to….
i keep working on my mom but am gonna have to just bite the bullet and drive to palm springs and make it her home page. that way she can’t claim she can’t find the bookmark.
Knowing some of his stories about cops, now, I’m imagining some gutsy stuff.
Thanks Wigwam, you give me an education every time you’re on FDL.
TPM says that Feingold is pleased with this Bill …linky
This is rather disgusting:
HALF a day? Great heavens! Hope you can move tomorrow! (Move around, I mean. I assume you like where you are….)
Wow. I’m listening to some beautiful Thomas Tallis thanks to Kristine.
I will! Thanks for the suggestion.
That is just wrong.
What moms won’t do to get a visit! ; )
I live in Toronto and we got hit by a big snowstorm. I have a snowblower so I was out helping all the other neighbors shovel about 15″ of snow …
A visit to Healdsburg (and environs) is a fun thing, too. Sonoma County’s a beautiful place. (AND we have Lynn Woolsey!)
Brrrrrr. And was the cognac a gift from a grateful neighbor, or are the casseroles coming later?
(HEY Newton! Hello Margot!)
So nice to see you, Laura
I got Cognac, Cohibas, Pizza …
You’re lookin’ good yourself, Newton!
…hand-knit wool socksies?
sigh those are the best kind
I LOVE my snowblower!
FWIW, the agreement went through unanimously. There are 17 amendments, which are analyzed here. Four of them are on the UC calendar; nine the Republicans have agreed not to filibuster; and four will require a 60-vote majority (to spare the Republicans the public embarrassment of filibustering).
Too true. Hand-knit anything. You KNOW the person who makes it for you loves you, because there’s no WAY one gives away hand-knit stuff to just ANYone!
Isn’t that a great piece of music? I’ve got two different recordings of it in my music library. My favorite Tallis piece, (and please don’t ask me for a link, because even of there was one, I’m not sure I know how to do it) is a piece called “If ye love me.” Beautiful harmonies and a counterpoint that predates Bach.
bastoids (spitting)
LOL … nah, but I’ll probably get some amazing Greek, Lebanese and Italian food over the weekend … I love this city !
…and if nothing changes over the weekend, it’s gonna be a bloodbath for the Fourth Amendment.
We like to stay in Monte Rio at the Monte Vista and visit all the wineries on Westside Road which turns into Dry Creek road..It take two days if you stop at them all. Also in Duncan Mills (pop. 35?) there is a restaurant named Cape Fear they have the best prime rib to die for, the food is just beyond words….
oh my gods. it’s exquisitely disgusting! *reaches for the bleach*
What that i had the media power to change it!
So has Russ crossed over to the dark side ?
i think there is serious fuckery afoot on capitol hill
i wonder what this really means. how accurate are neilsens these days? is it possible to know how many people are actually watching these shows (vs. how many aren’t)? is it even an audience the size of the Fuckwad Diehards? i don’t know the answers to these questions. i get the impression that television and newspaper influence is waning but how important it is now would be interesting to know.
NBC news isn’t going to last long at this rate. The hell of it is that as much as we bitch about Tweety, he’s way better than anything I’ve seen on Fox.
They buy Goat Rope in bulk.
I simply don’t understand why no Senators — not one! — are willing to blow out the calendar on this thing.
the neilsens also go for certain demographics when picking who gets the boxes. That makes a difference. I doubt very many DFH’s or those of my age group have them. Or if they do? They’re a helluva lot better off than i am,since they can bloody well afford cable to watch!

do you know the Vaughan Williams “Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis”? it’s quite nice and very much in the spirit of Tallis …..
Petro, I never saw any of those movies. I’m thinking more of The Once and Future King.
Nahant! Next time you’re up, let me know!
Kristine: If ye love me
only dodd and i think they have froze him out of being able to do anything monday (spitting) forkers
Here’s a link to the full Nielsen report.
((( ET )))
I think my neighbors are gonna build a temple in honor of mine, tomorrow … *g*
Yes and I love it. Also his Serenade for Music and–my favorite–The Lark Ascending. Hubby and I walked up the aisle to that one.
sorry, my 257 was in response to hmmm at 252
Do you think they all agree with the Conyers position about their responsibilities?
Yah, I figured. (Insert perky smiley here.)
My nephews had all of us sit in the front row to watch the LOTR Trilogy … luckily it wasn’t all at once …
i don’t know
Shit piss and corruption is all I can say about our Senators… what the FUC* do they think they are doing to our constitution. There will be a http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87yq372R4Ts when the ramifications of this become clear to the public….
or this
I am here most nights:>)
BTW Margot, didja see what I left @ 73 & 83 ?
Daym Suz you remembered Tracy… I do like her but I had the Beatles on my mind, we had the Beatles on during dinner tonight
Feingold too ?
I’m picturing something like this, temple-wise
Ms ET, ETette and ET, Jr. watched the four Ring movies two per night for two days over the holidays. I skipped it. They loved it. The only multi series I’ve watched back-to-back this past year was the Kill Bill movies. It was worth it.
thanks, WW. much work this weekend. maybe i can get a round tuit later.
Hah !
… that’s about how much snow we got …
I don’t want a revolution. People are hurt, and worse, in revolutions. I just want the Senators not to gut the Fourth Amendment instead. So I want the Feingold spot to run as a commercial during the Super Bowl. So the people will direct a din at the Senators before they vote the amendments Monday.
Simple.
Now? I thought that was a permanent affliction…! *g*
that is forking cool!
LOL !!!
I was just thinking about you …
Laura drop me an email @ bill at 3hunters dot com and I will send you The Lord Nelson Mass in D minor with my sweetie singing soprano part… real goo=d ear candy… Suz can attest to it!
unfortunately, its not so it is up to us to call and make our voices heard. again. they keep thinking that if they ignore us, we will go away. they are wrong.
Gives new meaning to the expression “chillin’ !”
I’m sure Russ still with the children of light. So, what can be going through his mind? My guess: the Republicans have agreed not to filibuster his immunity-stripping amendment and will let it pass if he can get a simple majority (because they are confident he can’t). That’s the best shot he can possible get and blocking immunity, given that Reid went forward with a bill that had immunity in it. Had Reid not done so and instead put forward the Judiciary Committee version or the House version, the Dems could have filibustered any attempt to add immunity, which would then have required a 60-vote majority.
My guess is the the Republican’s knew exactly what they were doing and that they have the necessary votes to stop all critical amendments. In that case, it’s up to the House to dig in their heels. Here is an analysis of that possible scenario by Senate expert cboldt, who did that analysis site for the amendments.
this has been a hell of a bad week for the home team. i hope we can regroup and regain our momentum. right now it’s about all i can do to lick my wounds, metaphorically speaking.
y’all take care. i gotta go pretend like i’m working.
Who will unmask Reid and the other sell- outs ?!!
Cold keeping you up, CT?
yeap, is why tonight we have popcorn and cartoons to get us back into fighting shape. enjoy your day, fahrender.
Hey Buddy, how’s it goin’, eh ?
Even with the GoDaddy ad pulled, Hmmm? It’s not so easy to get it up there. I’ve never heard of a slapdash edit like that thrown together ever. Any backups they possibly have for that spot? Are likely to be a repeat of an old commercial or one of the other ‘runner’ up bidders that they made sure made something for just these problems. They’ve been at this for 30 years. They’ve got a system in place.
The key is to plan a year ahead, BUY the spot and keep our eyes and ears peeled to use that spot for something we need to do in that time period. Commercials don’t take long to slap together even with the logistics. But you can’t buy out the spot 2 days before the rest of them air! Not when they sell out the time piece months ahead! (and set up the backups)
Thanks for the insight … wow, I can’t believe what the Dem Senators are doing … keep calling and faxing everybody !
Thanks! I’ve sent you email just now.
No, I’ve never heard of it. I’m familiar, of course, with his Fantasia on Greensleeves, but not on Tallis. I’ll check it out.
Wow, a recommendation for a good winery and some good music. Not to mention points on getting my Senators to do their f*cking jobs. Which reminds me, I’m also going to contact Clinton & Obama and ask them why should I help them become President when they are not willing to do the job they were elected to do in the first place? What part of “protect and defend the Constitution” don’t they get?
And with this, my fellow Firepups, I bid you a good night. Must be ready to fight the forces of evil in the morning.
It’s 3:30 in Toronto … G’nite all … my snowblower and I deserve a good rest …
Good night, Kristine. Nice to meet you.
g’nite petro
Good night Petro. May hand-knit sockies find their way to you!
My ‘puter seems to be afflicted with the same cold… I keep getting ’script nonresponsive’ prompt every third word I type… 8-(
That document you linked to doesn’t sound like Conyers’s position. I suspect that Pelosi somehow forced some “trustworthy” aides on him.
g’nite fellow pup Kirstine :) nice to have ya back
reboot your browser, ct
nite Kristine. nice to have you here again
nite petro
Well, my goal is to some day make it to Pull Up a Chair before everyone else has moved on. Good night all. Thanks for the lovely visit. Suz, I’ll do my best to be there, whichever date you pick. Sweet dreams, everyone.
You are, as ever, right.
Aloha, Petro!
That is beautiful!
This is what I found on YouTUbe:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvu0lrliPW0
I do appreciate your points, but a year from Monday is a year too late for this.
g’nite laura d – i’ll let ya know when i get it figured out. right now, its either the first or the second of march – depending on sat or sun – i’m thinking it will probably be the sunday, march 2 date.
Quite likely that rumor of Pelosi holding his chairmanship over his head if he starts impeachment hearings is valid. I know he’s a congresscritter of my state, but i’m not in his district. So unfortunately there’s no way i can really contact him in any valid way, i think.
Bloody stupid leadership. But yes, it doesn’t sound like him. Conyers, Leahy and Waxman are all bulldogs for their chosen committees but they cant’ do crap if the leadership won’t implement their recommendations. Which hasn’t happened. Hence all the scolding letters. They’re pissed, and i’m betting there’s a lot of private letters burning up the way between the lot arguing about this. It’s a chess game, but the players aren’t bothering to cooperate. Much less the problem with the leadership to begin with! ARGH. It’s inner politics and in that? We’ve got very little influence when it comes to that kind of shifting! Slim to Nil unless it means unseating incumbents(and we are!we ARE!).
I agree it doesn’t sound like the usual Conyers attitude we all know and love, but it certainly squares with Conyers’ (non-existent) outcomes these past few years.
Tunes on the way.. might take a bit as they are in wav format… and in 3 mails
The Real McCain – seen this one yet? How about your daughter?
“… will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic …”
I know, Hmmm. But buying the ad time well ahead of time is still good for whatever issue is burning us up NEXT year. It’s marathon not a sprint! I know media, i think in terms of media time. :P We can’t do shit right now becuase the idea is too late to be implemented in terms of working the media system. Catch it in time to DO that, and we’re set. But we’re pretty much stuck right now. So we’ve got to use other methods in the meantime. Snag up a spot when they next come up to be bought and it CAN be done next year. But the logistics wont’ work worth a damn because we’ve missed the time to BUY a spot on this year’s Super Bowl because we missed the chance to buy a spot last year. We can do it, if it’s a full team effort! (as in all of Left Blogistan that wants to get a spot up for whatever issue can be agreed on when the ad is filmed. Raising funds, drumming up talent and then filming)
Belieeve me, we’ll have issues with the new admin and the new congress. There’ll be something to toss up there!
I’ll save the date, Suz (see you there, Newton?)
thank you nahant. i’ll check in tomorrow a.m…..’nite gentles.
i saw it and loved it – she and i had to agree to disagree and agree to table the discussion until a later time.
she thinks obama has a policy statement that says women should not run for president and i challenged her to send me the link. we will see.
its gonna take baby steps with her. she gets her stubborness from me.
It took the conservatives sixteen years from Goldwater’s defeat in ‘64 to Reagan’s victory in ‘80. I sure hope that progressives can turn this country around before 2016.
You will, indeed, Laura! I will regard it as a good day.
OT – Anyone else seeing WordPress famous five minute installation process prompts?
Damn! I like the way you think.
gosh, laura d and dr kirk are gonna be here, newton. gonna be nice to have faces and voices to put with their fonts.
yeap, we had a hiccup but everything seems to be back to normal now.
if anyone is still seeing that install prompt, just do a hard refresh of your page (F5 on a PC) to remove it.
Yeah. I just did a hard refresh and it went away.
I think we can. There are more of us DFH’s in media now, which helps. But it takes a long time to do. We’ve GOT to break the back of Murdoch’s monopoly and that of Clear Channel. That’s gonna be one of many things to do. I’m not sure what i am, really. I’m too young to be a DFH, but i am a brat of a 30 year old with way too much cross discipline training to be useful sometimes. ^^ Pharm tech, media student…DJ. *evil grin*
Ha I missed that one! I usually get bombed with them when it happens!
I think that the only media that have significant impact with the mass of voters are car radios and cable-TV news. Right?
i think it depends on how the populace gets to work. if they drive – car radio. if they commute on public transit, it tends to be newspapers.
OK wake up! I way too much coffee with that apple pie tonight so:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Xl8YtgDAKc
Yes, and the print media to an extent with the old school of things. Really we’d still have to make a mark on all 3. Hence breaking the monopolies up or finding a way to get our own voices on the air. Air america is a start, the print media is harder to establish nowadays, but i think the blogs have an edge on that while print goes to pot.
But those that don’t blog? Watch tv or listen to radios. Then get confirmation from print. It’s the way i think, though i tend to check and double check online from several sources and compare bias. But i was pretty aware of the bullshit from about age 17(or was it sooner?), the media training just honed the ability. And i learned a few of their tricks. I’ve little to no training, but i learned enough of the system. I just don’t have the means, nor money to take it further. Training wise or otherwise. *sighs*
The Super Bowl ad is a great idea, but the best thing is to get it to Jane, and have her spread it among the rest of our illustrious leaders. THEY have the means to do it, and to get the message out. I’m betting Jane(or someone she knows) has contacts for when those ads go up for sale and the general pricing of the time slot as well.
Too late nahant, I am toast.
Good night y’all,sleep well.
just wanting to buy a spot does not mean ya get one iirc. if fox is carrying the superbowl, there is no way in hell they will approve a progressive ad for example.
g’nite busted
Good night Busted… sleep tight and don’t let the bed bugs bite :>)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RaNQjhXhfVs
Yup. Unless you pay through the nose. But there is that. If it isn’t filmed by FOX then we’ve go a better chance of buying. If it is? Then the price will be even more rediculous and then we’ve got to find a way to get the message over their pointy little heads without confusing the Average Joes by the the millions watching.
I agree, but the general idea of strategic prepurchasing of spots is a very interesting concept. An outfit like MoveOn probably could raise that sort of funds. Hmmmmm. Interesting.
wasn’t it our very own jacqrat who did the media buys for howie and the had enough blue america candidates ads?
They have before at least in the NYT WWell move on may be worth a try… if we can get their attention!
Keep on baby stepping!
Just as a thought experiment, I’ve sometimes wondered how hard it would be to set up a left-wing cable news channel, perhaps via a foundation the way the Pacifica radio stations are set up.
laughing… i haven’t seen that movie in years.
wish I had found the clip with just the baby steps… …that was the closest I could find. If only I could’ve just posted the last 2 minutes…
Here is some info from last Decembers fight in the Senate from Moveon.org
Dear MoveOn member,
There’s a fight brewing on the Senate floor today. President Bush wants Congress to give immunity to the phone companies that helped the administration spy on innocent Americans.
This fight strikes at the heart of accountability in our democracy. No president should be able to work with corporations to break the law and then use Congress to cover up the crimes. Holding the phone companies accountable may be the only way that the American people find out the extent of the Bush administration’s illegal actions.1
Progressive Senators Chris Dodd and Russ Feingold are pledging to block any legislation that includes “telecom immunity.” 2 And presidential candidates Joe Biden and Barack Obama have said they’ll support a filibuster.3
It is critical that other senators support Senators Dodd and Feingold . Can you call Sens. Feinstein and Boxer today and tell them to join progressives in the Senate in blocking any bill that includes immunity for lawbreaking phone companies? Tell them voters want accountability and oversight—not immunity.
Here’s where to call:
Senator Dianne Feinstein
Phone: 202-224-3841
Senator Barbara Boxer
Phone: 202-224-3553
Then, please report your call by clicking here:
http://pol.moveon.org/call?tg=…..F&t=2
An investigation into the illegal wiretapping could expose how far Bush and the telecoms went in breaking the law. President Bush keeps insisting that his illegal spying program was narrow and only targeted at suspected terrorists. But AT&T whistleblower Mark Klein—who has firsthand knowledge of the program—says the program was a massive invasion of Americans’ privacy and AT&T is covering up the truth:
“They want to portray it like the president does, that it’s a handful of international phone calls. That’s the sound-bite, and that’s not true. It affects millions of people domestically.” 4
That’s why the Bush Administration and the telecom companies are desperately seeking immunity to conceal their crimes. AT&T has even hired a consulting company headed by John Ashcroft, Bush’s former Attorney General, to lobby for immunity.5
We need the Senate to stand up to their pressure and hold them accountable, not aid their cover-up.
Can you call Sens. Feinstein and Boxer today and tell them to join progressives in the Senate in blocking any bill that includes immunity for lawbreaking phone companies?
Thanks for all you do.

Support our member-driven organization: MoveOn.org Political Action is entirely funded by our 3.2 million members. We have no corporate contributors, no foundation grants, no money from unions. Our tiny staff ensures that small contributions go a long way. If you’d like to support our work, you can give now at:

I’m certain that the glodfish scene is Paris Hilton’s inspiration for the “PocketDog”…
And that, is totally beyond my ken. It would probably have to start up small and then start expanding the way most do. Unless you had the money and interest to start a specialty channel the way the entertainment ones seem to spawn so insanely. Fox took a long time to get together, but CNN was the foundation idea. Everything else took shape after that. But that was Turner funding it from the start, and he had a media empire of his own first. Just the way Murdoch did with FoxNews. MSNBC was a teamup of what we know and M$, again more dollars.
At the moment, that’s the only model we have. Getting around it? Is part of the challenge, unless we can find a pool of rich donors to get it off the ground and funded for some time while those running it drum up advertisers and set up round the clock programming. (If you’ve done scheduling of ANY kind, i think you can guess on the kind of headache any station startup has. i experience it in my streaming radio gig. There’s a reason why we have multiple ways of tracking schedules and gigs!) Once it gets off the ground and people start tuning in? It could take hold, but we’d HAVE To find the audience. Infinitely possible, but oooooooh what a challenge.
I would presume that Jane and Christy must have some sort of regular contact with outfits like MoveOn.
Also a friend told me about an outfit called Wellstone Action that is trying to promote effectiveness of progressives. He went to one of their training camps and said it was excellent.
kewl thanks, fyi, having a lot of links in a comment will get it caught in the spam filters. the mod squad will free as soon as possible but… i try to break up a comment that has a buttload of links into separate comments to avoid that hazard – usually with a part one and part two clearly delinated
How about this for DiFi: Fork You! Insulting letter to follow. Yours Truly, nahant.
Thanks for the tip… consider it stored in memory :>)
(laughing) difi is old enough to understand the telegraph joke and it might slip by her staff who may not.
That is my wish but that would never get through her minders… I will come up with something I need to stew on it for a day or so…But she sure is falling down on the job she was elected to do for US! :>(
ok, time for me to bail (whine whine). forking housework to do (more whining). i’ve put it off long enough and gotta get to it so it is all shiny for the showing at noon.
How did that streaming-radio effort work out? Was it able to sustain?
Night SUZ and I hope the fish bite real good….:>)
Sweet dreams Suz and happy weekend.
(Uh oh, picked up the guitar and disappeared for an hour!)
‘Night Suz, in fact ‘night everybody… Sweet dreams to you all.
Yup, we’re actually growing! *laughs* I LOVE IT.
I’ve been out of commission since my laptop has been acting up and i haven’t had time to get it put back together. But i’m still keeping an eye on things in the meantime. Our presence in SL is growing, but it’s akin to what any media empire has grown from.(slightly accelerated the way SL time seems to run.) A small group with enough talent and committment to do it.The funding has turned up as we got a rep on The Grid for being that good.
But i plan to be back in action as a DJ(while planning a gig for the spring time) in the next month or so. Job hunting and studying for the Pharm Tech Boards hasn’t helped with that. I keep in touch but at the moment my time is limited. Once the test is out of the way, i think i’ll be able to concentrate on getting back on air again. For now? I’m going absolutely BATTY being left out of things, while i’m up to my ears in real life issues.
I guess thats it for me also… … good night all you good firepups… we will just have to figue out how to defeat this dam immunity with the rest of the firepus over the weekend… we don’t have much time!!
G’nite, nahant.
I think the best bet will be to get the House to dig in their heels. The Dem majority is a bit larger there, and Nancy has re-election in a very liberal district to worry about.
Sigh, nahant am sad to say DiFi is a good ole Republican boy in bad drag and I gave up on her a long time ago. I’m equally disillusioned with our other US Senator and, sigh, most recently I gave up on Nancy Pelosi as well. I do like my congress-critter Rep. Sam Farr a whole lot and only wish he were a hell-raiser. At least he is a dedicated progressive and scandal free.
That’s cool. It might be worthwhile thinking about streaming audio as the first step.
How vulnerable is Pelosi’s seat? Coming from a liberal area, I’d guess that she might have some worries.
Niters Suz and nahant & Hmmm – and fellow sleepy heads as well. Am off to dream land as well.
G’nite NPB.
I think it has been taken as a step. DailyKos has an HQ in SecondLife, but i wasn’t able to afford to go to that virtual version myself. (they charged for entry just like any other convention.) But if i’m not mistaken, TheYoungTurks do TV and radio spots of their own streaming online. That’s one group, if we can get more into it(a real variety of stations to choose from with a liberal bent), it’s the start of things. The hard part is translating it out into cars radios, tvs, and print. That’s where cold hard cash comes into things, which right now? Is the most telling factor between NetRoots and establishment methods. We’re catching up though. It may not take 20 or 30 years to get there, but to take a solid bite in about 10 years? We’re got the seeds in place. Now to nuture them and plant a good variety. *grin*
Teddy SF would be a better judge of Pelosi’s vulnerability yet even though I’m on the Monterey/Carmel central coast I would think her constituents in her SF district are very restless if not disillusioned as well. Pelosi has a history of riling up conscious constituents in recent years, especially progressive/activists who consistently challenge her when she is in district.
niters all you remarkable late late fire dogs and happy weekend.
If a group could get a reasonably successful liberal talk stream going say as some sort of non-profit thing, the transition to say XM should be relatively easy. But I have no idea of the fiscal dynamics of something like that.
A lot of the NPR stations are independent and only carry NPR on a selective basis. Hmmmmm.
I have to sign off now. Been very interesting thinking about this.
G’nite
I’m pretty sure there’s some type of basic infrastructure out there of political net radio. It’s almost a given, just hard to keep up because it’s usually talk radio. The absolute HARDEST thing to keep up material for. I could probably hazard a few places to track down a few, but i doubt they cooperate with each other. Which is another idea.
A lot of streaming is amateurs doing vanity radio, and some of it is experienced pros like the group i’m with, or else legit radio stations using streaming to get audiences elsewhere. We’ve all had live on air via college radio, or actual live gigs as DJs elsewhere. That makes a world of difference. Find the talent, the time and get the guests and topics to grab your audience. Word of mouth and a reputation for quality? You’ve got a working product! Even my station in SecondLife has competition, we’re having fun with it since we’re unique in quite a few ways.
Now it’s my turn to go SPLAT. Night owl tendencies are fun, but exhausting.
BlueState waking up. Anyone there? Before I got the tea going, any word from/on Darcy?
Guess not. See you in an hour or so.
Back yet, BSRH?
yo
Good morning, pups. And I thought I would be the early bird this morning! It’s La Collins and Bob Herbert in the NYT today. La Collins has a voter’s guide for us, in which she wonders if Mittens is an android. Mr. Herbert says those who may think that a woman or a black man will have an easy time winning the White House this year should switch from whatever it is they’re smoking. He cautions Democrats not to become overconfident.

I’ve got lots of coffee, tea and hot chocolate for y’all, and I was in the mood for corn muffins. Then, looking at those muffin tins, I said to myself, “self, let’s get silly.” So I did that, and there are also some Groundhog Day cupcakes for later. I’ve got tons of work to do, so I’ll lurk around when I can. Have a great day.
Hey, Raven -
How goes the latest medical travails with the new pup? You have a heart of gold, sir.
Puts me in mind of my OES shelter rescue…$50. adoption fee and then, WHAM! $500.+ for heartworm treatment. Tho’ handling by his former owner(s?) showed no evidence of kindness, as in your case.
‘Bout time for y’all to head out for morning coffee, isn’t it?
Morning Pups -
This was in my inbox from the Darcy Burner campaign this morning:
Sandeep was not speaking for Darcy or for the campaign when he said what he said. If we are going to reclaim our country and right its course, it will take a broad-based movement, including the blogs, working together to get it done.
We are truly sorry that a part-time political consultant associated with this campaign said things to a college student which reflects poorly on Darcy and her campaign. Please know that they do not reflect her views.
We hope for your continued support. Please feel free to contact the campaign at anytime.
I hope someone from the campaign, preferably Burner herself, shows up here soon.
why aren’t the tags working?
Hi! The Lil Bit is doing ok, we are reading too much on the internet about the pro’s and con’s of pain meds for the disc problem but I guess we need to go with what our vet has told us. We are headed out and then I may go to a research symposium this morning. . .whoo hoo.
Ya’ll cold up there?
What OES is?
Raven, I have been away for awhile because of computer woes so I’m not sure if my advice on disc problems will help but here goes. Year’s ago we adopted a 4 month old golden that we discovered had hip problems. The vets advice was no exercise. With tears streaming down my face, I said that the dog wouldn’t live long without exercise and he assured me that the dog could play but just no walks. Long story short with the help of occasional buffered aspirin, the dog lived until he was 16.
Fellow Georgians, Are you excited about super Tuesday? We do have decent candidates and I’ll vote will count.
Whoops, meant to say OUR Vote will count.
Hello Raven,
Dave in Okinawa delurking. I’ve enjoyed reading about your pet rescue. You’re a prince of a human being for taking in a poor stray.
Waccamaw – the same salutations to you for taking in a shelter animal. I’ve gone through the heartworm treatments now with two of my four-footed kids. Both of them were abandoned and showed up in my neighborhood. The cost of the heartworm treatment out here is less expensive – subsidized by the military. The affection that they give back every day makes it a bargain.
Reading about 20° on the north side of the house; haven’t taken a look-see for today’s weather yet.
OES = Old English Sheepdog…he’s been gone a little over a year now and there’s still a hole in my heart.
Had I but known……….the heartworm treatment was the *cheap* part. LOL. The last year of Pete’s life came to a total dollar figure that some would consider obscene…..and he was worth every damn cent of it! There is no price tag on affection and you do whatever you can to compensate them for that love.
How old was Pete?
Good morning pups! Happy groundhog day :)
Reporting to you from the airport. It’s moving day here, off to California.
Waccamaw, There was a great New Yorker cartoon about dogs. It said that “my mother always said that I’d find someone that worshiped me, I just didn’t realize that he’d have long hair and bad breath.”
Morning egregious, Happy moving day!
Obviously out here on Okinawa, long-haired dogs aren’t too common. I’ve been out here now for 14+ years this time around. I think we’ve seen a sheepdog once – about 12 years ago or so. He must have been an OES. He was sitting in the passenger seat of a Jeep Cherokee (with kanji plates) in the parking garage of a big hardware store out here. My family all still remember seeing him sitting there guarding the jeep while his owner was inside.
Phil saw his shadow according to MSNBC. Is the sun even up yet?
I’m east of there, near Maxatawney, and there’s no clouds and there’s no shadows here. Maybe it’s all those klieg lights in Puxatawney
Well, the sun is up somewhere. I’ll just fly around til I find it.
I got him in ‘97, iirc and he was supposedly about two years old at that time so that would mean he lived at least 12 years which can be pretty good for a large breed. If the one you saw had no tail, an OES it was….’course, if s/he were sitting, the *teller* is missing. *g* Got my first one in the ’70’s due mostly to falling in love with their looks; found out their souls match the appearance. Not a breed for those who require low maintenance in grooming, tho’.
JPL9 @ 386 -
If you ever come across that ‘toon again, would love a linky.
Happy Moving Day! egregious!
Hope you enjoy the flight to your new home
Does Phil have a brother – Maxatawney Mike?
Good morning.
Coffee’s up.
Doesn’t seem like much is going on. Will try to finish reading my book today, Among the Dead Cities by A.C. Grayling, a discussion of the morality of the allies’ bombing German & Japanese cities during WWII. The discussion of the book on amazon is quite heated. Grayling is a venerable British philosopher, and one who tries to make philosophy accessible to the masses; for example, he wrote a column in the Guardian for awhile. However, some on amazon argue that he gets his history wrong in ways that influence his moral conclusions. That has to do with the justification defense. Anyhow, the subject is fascinating & Grayling’s book is clearly written & arguments clearly presented.
Waccamaw, I’ll try to find it later today. Dogs are special.
Thankee; tried teh google briefly with no success.
Hey Lurking Mod…what happened thread did a major repeat???
There’s your answer…they consider these
“news programs” and probably haven’t examined the major drop in Cable viewership for any of these. One can lead a list of “ratings” but if no one is watching anymore it doesn’t matter. It’s sort of like being the top-rated variety show in Prime Time TV…you still aren’t gonna be Ed Sullivan.
