And speaking of depressing, how about the continuing forfeiture of our civil liberties and the wonderful world capitulation bipartisanship gets you? Demonstrated, as always, in great depth, by Glenn Greenwald and Empty Wheel.
So how about we try to have a small laugh? Found through the ever reliable Crooks & Liars.

Attatuk!
Attaturk!
+ ‘r’
atta boy.
another good fun thought.
Did anyone see law and order’s ‘Blue Plate’ primary special? Larry Craig + criminal donation bundler(Ho) + Hillary presidential candidate and look-a-like + generic black elder statesman NY politician (Rangel?) + what looked like a shot of a fake political rally in front of a real city hall. with reminders that Thompson is gone.
Blue plate special buffet!
And now GBGB (not George Bush twice, but Good Bye Great Blog). off to work we go.
Andrea Mitchell hasa serious problem with John Edwards, it would seem from her comments again on MSNBC’s Morning Joe this morning that his serving one Senate term didn’t qualify him for his prez run…
EPU’d down stairs is a comment by bilbo quoting Glenn Greenwald thus:
Investigate. Interrogate. Impeach. Indict. Incarcerate. It’s our duty to our nation and our heritage.
John Edwards for AG!!
Well good morning all.
It would be great weather for an impeachment hearing!
Good morning all. Just a heads up, Sheldon Whitehouse will be on CSPAN this morning taking feed-back and calls regarding Mukasey and yesterday’s palaver on the SJC.
and that was a good laugh, thnx.
I can’t imagine any weather NOT appropriate to that probe.
Well that’s kind of the beauty of it isn’t it.
Impeach Indict Convict Imprison!!!
with justice for all!
palaver fantastic have not heard it used in a long time. not really to work.
Letterman also said last night that people shouldn’t worry about Giuliani coz he’s already out looking for his fourth wifey…
Dumbass!!!!
Yep. That pretty much sums it up, Dave. LOL
Great- thanx for the heads up on Whitehouse, & thanx also for the morning Letterman laughs, attaturk. I’m just back to Santa Monica from business in Scottsdale AZ, where the wealthy & very white Repubs live, play, & retire. Saw so many gas guzzling SUV’s w/McCAIN ‘08 stickers plastered on ‘em I thought my brain would liquify & start oozing out of my ears.
Home sweet home, Santa Monica, my dear old funky liberal mecca…
man
well, I can say ‘about friggin time’ some of the main stream is finally getting it but I am amazed dave doesn’t get fired by corporate media for that
I did cough up my coffee, I do have to say
I woke up this morning and read Glenn and wanted to just shoot myself. I know that this is a marathon and not a sprint, but I have to wonder if there really is anything we can do about the fascist state we now live in. Grateful I have this place to come to but as far as I’m concerned, the election is now over for me and I’m feeling totally powerless to do anything that will change this awful situation we are living in.
Bring ‘em all to justice for all.
Come on Rev, the big world keeps on spinnin and people like you are needed badly.
don’t say that RevDeb, we have a mission, to elect more and better Democrats at the local level. The national election is disappointing to me, too. Got the Primary Blues. but we’s got lots to do.
Depressing is what it is, no doubt. We have to work very hard at getting progressives into Congress. We need as many dem senators as we can and more, many more, progressive reps. Neither of the candidates that we have been “given” are worth a snot as far as I am concerned but I will be working as hard as I can to get more dems overall into Congress. It seems to me to be our only hope.
Trying to lead my congresscritter down the impeachment path but I find the lack of spine—either that or they have all sold out—on behalf of the whole lot of them disgraceful. I preach a lot about moral compass but it seems that the country has lost it.
When the RAGE is there the spine will follow.
Wigwam, here was my comment in response to Glenn’s post:
I think they had rage and spine removal surgery the day after they took their oaths of office.
Gotta go to work. Be back soon.
Beautiful. Thanks.
What bothers me is that there is nothing Bush can do that will make the congress do its job. His nastiness is getting worse and the Senate continues to be polite. He made a signing statement authorizing him to have permanent bases in Iraq and everyone said ho-hum.
This is going anywhere good and now the one voice who cared is gone.
RevDeb,
Does this describe the problem: http://tinyurl.com/yog37o ?
h/t Retired Military Patriot at Glenn’s blog
This is going nowhere good.
My congresscritter thinks impeachment is a joke. Told me if we DO impeach Bush we will have President Cheney on the bully pulpit until the election.
Does that make him or me stupid?
I think that many of our fellow citizens have a strong moral compass, but that few of our elected leaders have one. The pragmatic approach to political problems leads people to abandon strong moral feelings in the name of getting something done. That is just as true of torture as it is of universal health care. Eventually, putting up with pork to get a small change in SCHIP becomes a way of life, and it is just as easy to agree to warrantless wiretapping and torture to get some minor progress on something seems like a reasonable trade.
I think RevDeb is right to be depressed. I don’t see the source of change in this pervasive bipartisan attitude.
Seems to be stand operating procedure for federalists society members to lie in their confirmation hearing.
Good morning, RevDeb- YGM @ your alternate addy.
The “wifey” thing is certainly a fascinating topic. Last night, while loving the commentary here on the debates, I saw some wife “pics”: even Mrs. Romney looked like she was about to puke, and Rudy/Judy stood by with the adoring Nancy R. gaze. Mrs. McCain looked calm and classy. Sorry, I started this. It really is not quite fair just because they are on standby. Just saying: Mrs. Edwards and Mrs. Obama certainly look like they can go the distance without “stepping in it.”
I think we have to resign ourselves to no impeachment, no great change in a new prez, no effective oversight from Congress, no universal healthcare, no affordable education, no increase in the dollar’s value, no withdrawal from Iraq, an increase in belligerence toward Iran, more sucking up to Israeli rightwing nutfucks, increased invasion of our rights to privacy and more buggered up foods. It is a mess and there is no chance of meaningful change in my lifetime.
Any dem will be miles better than Bush and his neocon theocon con artist clowns he brought into government.
Progressives will require a revolution and they will not speed in electorally. That’s pretty obvious.
Struggle!
Here’s a video with some sayings from Martin Luther King -presented by Jay Smooth- for some needed inspiration this morning.
Hey! I’m supposed to be the incorrigible cynic around here!
Who is going to fight poverty and reform our government in a principled manner?
We’ve got Clinton scandal fatigue redux already?!
Here are Clinton scandals that just hit the paper today. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01…..ref=slogin http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/…..038;page=1 We are getting Clinton scandal fatigue and the Primaries aren’t even over!
We’ve got a serious electability issue. After seven years of incompetent, corrupt government, America is extra sensitive to this type of stuff. Look what just happened to Rudy. This kind of baggage would weigh the Clintons way down in a run against McCain, who has always stood for cleaning up government.
The Clintons have only one small Obama scandal they keep bringing up, which Obama admits was a mistake and fixed. Obama is vastly cleaner, less baggaged and more principled than the Clinton.
For my diary on this: http://www.dailykos.com/storyo…..221/444226
Sorry, I didn’t see that Sander was here :)
The powers up there have a strong grasp on EVERYTHING in this country and are not going to let go without some serious battle.
Progressives can make a bit of headway through elections, but we need numbers and people SHOWING their anger before those up top get nervous.
It’s all about controlling the masses, keeping them ignorant, selling them stupid junk and false dreams and playing on fear.
I’m very surprised they are hitting us with clinton scandals now, I would ahve thought they’d save them for the general if she wins the nomination
I guess they really want to run against oboma
interesting
hahahahahahahahaha
dont try to call your bank today
Mideast internet outages spread to India
Updated 13m ago | Comments3 | Recommend6 E-mail | Save | Print |
CAIRO (AP) — Fallout spread Thursday from a cut in two undersea Internet cables off Egypt’s coast, with India waking up to half of its bandwidth disrupted and widespread outages still hampering a wide swathe of the Mideast.
Officials said it could take a week or more to fix the cables, in part because of bad weather. Officials in several countries were scrambling to reroute traffic to satellites and to other cables through Asia.
Not gunna vote Obama are you?
McJohn has scandals in his past… Keating 7 ring a bell?
yup ,that is abundantly clear…STATUS QUO peeps they aint givin it up just yet
lol! omg, no tech support across the US!!!
“They” want to get the dems into a huge food fight so that real issues cannot be put on the table.
They have so many that they have to start early.
he is a very corrupt short little Napolean
Our economy may speak instead. Things would change if there was an awful meltdown.
yup the oligarchs are playing one no trump
New splitter being installed?
lol @ “They”
“They” _are_ everywhere! Aren’t they. :)
i am hopelessly ignorant
These guys see america as the wild west.. the place where you make it big by “no rules”… but making it is their measure.
Never understood why wealthy don’t just kick back and spend it all, but they seem to like getting as much as they can.
Has anyone studied in a serious fashion why the wealthy keep at it when they can’t spend it? And their heirs can’t even spend it? What’s the deal?
I figured if Edwards could last till March as the sub-prime debacle($265 Billion) he could reap the populist backlash. Alas, not to be.
McStain born in 1936 …is REALLY old school, wonder if he has a computer?
I am assuming a splitter to reroute the data so dick cheney has access to all transactions
just a guess
more like the going for the grand slam, but going down doubled and redoubled.
It will be interesting to see how much pain comes from the economy this year and how that is manifest in the election.
If people vote their pocketbooks, it looks bad for the Rs.
That was my guess.
it’s not about acquiring wealth it’s about taking wealth from whoever they can
they want there to be as great a divide as possible, they are desperately trying to bring back the robber baron economy
Johhny Rocco, Key Largo, “What is it you want Johhny”? “More, yea, that’s it, more”. Buddhists call it the hungry ghost.
People vote their pocketbooks
unless they are scared shirtless
That stuff is depressing, but there’s no time to think about that. Princess Jenna is getting married soon! I just know that seeing the joy of the Bush family will make everything ok for us all.
i liken it to the smash and grab theifs ,that used to be prevalent in Harlem…those thieves go to jail….the corporatist oligarchs RAING this country …eh not so much…we are a nation of laws….as Leona once said “for the little people”
OT
I’m posting this because some of the posters here are fighting or have fought with cancer. The article says that 2 cancer drugs were accidently mixed together and one was so strong it shouldn’t have been injected in the spine.
Tainted Drugs Tied to Maker of Abortion Pill
BEIJING — A huge state-owned Chinese pharmaceutical company that exports to dozens of countries, including the United States, is at the center of a nationwide drug scandal after nearly 200 Chinese cancer patients were paralyzed or otherwise harmed last summer by contaminated leukemia drugs.
…
Problems with the cancer drugs first surfaced last summer after leukemia patients received injections of one cancer drug, methotrexate. Afterward, patients experienced leg pain and, in some cases, paralysis. …
…
(Near the end of the 2nd page we find out how it happened:)
Describing the cover-up at the factory, Ms. Zhou, the regulator who led the investigation, said workers did not tell investigators that vincristine sulfate — a drug too toxic for use in spinal injections — had been stored in a refrigerator with materials for other drugs. …
…
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01…..ref=slogin
that was RAPING………….. more mocha java……..
chinese capitalism ….beginers bad luck?
ok is it time to call it CRAPITALISM?
I think they have had chinese merchants fir a while.
Unfortunately, rather than actually do something about that, the Republics would use it to show that abortion is evil.
gaki (餓鬼, “hungry ghost”)
cool, pinhole mouth and all
Jesus moneychangers temple 2000 years ago
O.K. I suffered through part of the McSaint/Mittens food fight last night. I have to say that as an American I am so embarrassed this morning. WTF x 2!! McSaint is outta his f*ckin’ mind! Mittens will say anything. They both lie with conviction. AQ, the Taliban or any fundamentalists watching that fiasco last night had to be laughing their asses off. What a joke, and to Ahnold sitting there like he’s the terminator just added to the folly. Wow! I’m couldn’t believe the immaturity and the total batshit crazy goings-on for two hours last night. Did I say that McSaint if f*cking crazy? The box destroyed his mind.
Re: McCain’s age- from Col. Pat Lang’s blog a few days back:
Just Too Old, Sad But True
that a whole new genre to me.
If Permanent Vice President Cheney feels that McCain is ok, then no one should question the age thing.
nice
McCain is too old, He’s falling apart.
I had enough after watching Mukasey. What did Cain say.
McCain now truly believes he is going to be President.
This insatiable force also is given more description when compared with the Buddhist version of the “hungry ghost.” When told of this spirit’s bottomless belly, which it’s forever trying to fill through the inadequate vehicle of a pinhole mouth, the addict can more fully relate their addiction with the language of yin and yang.
and dont we also want AN ENGAGED prezledent this time….tech savy
it prolly comes down to …my dick is bigger than tour dick
ok …i cant type…arg!@#$%^&*()_
Great read if you can find it. Weaves an intriguing narrative around how medieval Japanese painters would paint the hungry ghost in courtly scenes using them as an analogy for the starving poor of the country.
damn
Great Post Attaturk, Staying warm?
Can everyone say it out loud: Buck Fi-Partianship. This is the mantra. When the GOP has gone so Righ Wing extreme that the Minutement are considered a legitimate political group versus the radical extremists they are, any sort of Bi-partianship means the Democrats have to move to the center. Sorry. I refuse. Thank God John Edwards was in the race this long to move the Glam Cands towards the progressive causes. Buck -Fi-partianship. My new mantra.
Forever war, served his country, will employ economists to do his job, extreme rightist (immigration policy much, John?). He acted like a total psychopath! All rhetoric, no real substance. Likes the taste of Bush’s ass, too. :)
So why not vote Republican?
lol, yeah, glad i missed it :)
With the assistance of Diebold, many probably will.
Whitehouse up on Cspan1.
yea major rusted screw coming loose in his brain imo
Bloomberg is an electrical engineer. Just sayin’.
In the spirit of good cheer, if Letterman doesn’t do it for you, maybe for a moment Ellen will. I give you the Hawaii chair….
disclaimer: I do not watch the show, didn’t even before the writer’s strike, but this transcends.
Gotta fly, got my blogpost to write. Thanks Attaturk for starting the day light… I think we all need that.
Whitehouse is acting as if the Constitution was still in effect. Foolish man.
Ya, why not?! If you are in the US military think of the travel opportunities you will have for at least the next 4 years.
Agree, and it’s getting worse as the days pass and the stress increases. The fact that people (I use that term loosely) vote for any of these guys amazes me. The 27%ers are a testament to how brainwashed a part of our electorate really is. IDIOTS!
i would prefer him to any of last nites debaters
…but which one is the master debater?
FTA, we always said
Fun Travel and Adventure
thats how we got CHUMPY … the evil corporate media covers for the crazies, and IGNORE the John Edwards’
hahahahaha…you are the early bird
The first syllables that come from Sentors Clinton and Obama tonight will totally negate the two hours of blather from last night. BTW, CNN and Anderson Cooper are pathetic. Add condescending Bill Bennett too.
Man, I wish I could type when I’m fired up…alas, not the case. :(
McCain came across as arrogant, self-righteous, imperious, mean spirited and testy.
-G
it all is really unwatchable cept for KO…it is more sureal than Hollywood,or Bollywood combined
We got the chimperor thanks to the supremes, diebold and corpomedia.
Because I would rather a pig in a poke :)
oh yes the perfect storm….which has devastated all of us
Pretty much says it.
Glenn’s take on it all lays it bare. That’s what so depresses me.
Gosh! His true self.
Without a doubt, but hey, he has the support of Ghouliani and the Terminator. How did you expect him to act? /s
He believes he has the Presidency wrapped up now. It’s all his, in his mind.
An official at Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, speaking on condition of anonymity, said it was believed that a boat’s anchor may have caused the problems, although this was unconfirmed, AP reported. He added that it might take up to a week to repair the fault.
Whitehouse on CSPAN: “this administration led the tel-cos in to this situation deliberately”
excuse me …raise your hand if you thought it would TURN OUT DIFFERENTLY
While Mukasey may be marginally more straightforward than Alberto Gonzales was — more willing to conform to the procedural formalities of independence — he is, ideologically, a clone of John Yoo and David Addington and is as much of a loyal adherent to the Bush/Cheney extremist worldview as Gonzales ever was.
http://www.dailykos.com/story/…..635/446855
Great article about what we really lost with Edwards. he ran an unspun campaign.
A signatory of the program.
i know cause i felt it in my heart, when Elizabeth got the lousy diagnosis…he changed…and i will never know why the LEFTY blogsphere didnt catapult him to the white house
my hands are still in my pockets
Do you think that any who ‘confirmed’ him are surprised?
I missed it, can you expand?
Im comforting myself with the thought that we havent heard the last of John
Mulkasey just isnt sleazy but that’s even worse somehow.
In listening to Whitehouse on C-Span I find that most of the gooper callers are total crazies. I am encouraged.
why didnt we PUSH,PUSH,PUSH for him….we let the media control us again
He was a Naval Officer…
it is 1 good thing about Walmart …Prozac is 4 bux per Rx…hahahahahahahaha
I was cool on him from the get go due to his DLC/Third Way heritage.
He is a cold arrogant lying shit. Just perfect for this administration. They do seem to find the dirty and corrupt with an unerring eye.
Annapolis too, my old man, a destroyer sailor hated those idiots! “
well, my short term memory lasts but a fleeting moment, but I believe a caller had told him he was rude to poor mucousey. whitehouse interjected that thought before explaining that he actually complemented the atty gen for some things he has accomplished. sorry i cant be more help :)
he did say he was suspending his campaign,
maybe sitting back and let the top two wrestle off?
*sigh, such a dreamer
I feel that too, & hope you’re right. Fed Gov. badly needs a shot of JE’s personal & professional integrity.
Must drive in to work now- Thank you FDL for everything. Bit of the folding for the FDL kitty today…
Look forward to reading you all later.
i felt his personal tradgedies changed him for the better
I was always thankful for his ousting of Loach Faircloth. If you don’t remember Faircloth, he was Jaba the Hut, only really ugly, and made Jesse Helms sound like George McGovern.
Thanks
I certainly value the direction he has taken while campaigning.
Seconded
Yup. That Saint John, the media’s favorite and the neocon’s favorite.
I don’t remember. Sounds interesting tho.
Final Report released on National Guard and Reserves
now up on CSPAN !
well, here’s the bad news everyone;
my entire office is releaved mccain is going to be the candidate and they will all be voting for him
both hillary and oboma are definate “no” from these republicans, edwards was the only candidate they would have considered on the democratic side
we are gonna have one tough fight
Blue Texan is upstairs…
no shiiite
That clip really gave me a belly laugh!! Thank you for sharing it!!
Goodness, gracious! Are you implying that we might ‘lose’?
with either oboma or edwards against mccain their chances improve exponentially
You’re pullin’ mah leg. You done gone and ‘truthed’ us.
To be quite clear about this: Do you mean ‘edwards’ or do you mean ‘clinton’?
Why did he say suspending and then not endorsing?
No linky but this is a manifestation of genetic mental illness, running in families, a pathology of excessive greed coupled with lack of restraint and perspective, paralleling pathologies of sociopath and psycopath dysfunction. These people would be and are winners in rat-race competition for economic resources which is the foundation of their extreme wealth. Couple this with social-darwinism as justification, with limitless economic resource, no institution is or can be safe from their predatory natures.
Once kings used such behavior to assemble an aristocracy that protected the interests of the king, no king would allow any in the aristocracy to have any more than an insubstantial portion of power in relation to the power of the king.
When the American economy was developing, no heed was given and the economic plutocracy that developed were able to either completely monopolize an economic process (Rockefeller and Standard Oil) or limit those acting within an economic process to a mere handful of entities (Look at the five grain companies who control about 90% of US annual agricultural output, at least one is privately owned and no annual accounting is given) controlling an economic market.
Nothing in history has prepared any government to handle such a situation, no king that allowed a substantial accumulation of power survived without a battle to the death with those accumulating such power. The prognosis for the future is bleak with conflict, those wielding such economic power will not relinquish their hold without the use of force greater than theirs.
Now you, Arnie, have really ‘truthed’ us. The reality, that you have elegantly and precisely delineated, is actually ’sinking in’, more and more.
As a means of perspective, nothing more, regarding the ‘power’ of the wealthy, relative to everyone else, see if you can discover the answer to this question:
What percentage of the combined ‘wealth’ of the bottom 40% of the American people does the ‘wealth’ of Bill Gates, alone, equal?
Would anyone care to guess?
well, wow. someone else is dealing with some depression today. i know I sure am. Codswallow McMouthpiece exercising his signing statement crayon on Tuesday is bad enough, but THERE IS NO MSM COVERAGE of this at all that I have seen. i’m talking teevee, where so many people go exclusively for their “news”. it’s the “no coverage” and the other thing that just puts me in the pits is that OUR CONGRESS harrumps, and bitches and moans about these things and won’t do a damned thing about any of it.
Then there’s the Mckassey debacle. HORRIFIC and GLOBALLY shameful to us all!
i KNEW this was going to be a rough year with the Bu&h/Cheney crime family, but it’s started out harder, faster and worse than i imagined. And STILL ONE PERSON stands in the way of shutting them down and beginning the recovery of my country, and that’s PELOSI, who is just as “spitting nails” as she is useless with ANY of this.
God help us, and i think i’ll watch movies all day. try not to eat cherry bon bons on the couch, i DID manage a shower.
*sigh*
John Edwards!
