Just waking up in Europe-sounds like a great debate. Really enjoyed seeing Ariana, Josh, and John with KO (now that KO has come out of the blogger closet).

It’s FANTASTIC to see real liberals on the TeeVee for a change.

Most distasteful, IMO, was right before Obama’s line, as Hillary again defended her Iraq vote.

Just saw this movie…Across The Universe which is a love story-musical that takes place in the 60’s and is scored with adaptations of the Beatles’ catalogue of great songs. The cinematography and effects are excellent and the score is nicely done for the most part. Hard to encapsulate the 60’s in a single film but this does a pretty good job of catching the crazy energy, anger and despair of the times.

I suggest highly you see it if you have any sort of emotional connection to the Beatles music…you might see some different interpretations than the ones you thought existed.

Will try to gather my best Santa Ana gusto and see what I can do.

Saw an interview with the director of the film on Charlie Rose quite a few months back.. Is it still in theaters or did you rent it?

My younger son is a Beatles fan and can’t wait to see this movie. I’ll wait till it’s at Blockbuster, but it does sound good.

looking at the preview, it kinda reminded me of the preview to almost famous and evoked the same kinda vibe.

I really enjoyed that movie when it came out. Still fun to watch on the DVD player every couple of years.

and the soundtrack was forking great too ES.

Just home from work. Minus 16F, calm. I’m going through the firewood pretty fast keeping my shop above freezing during the day and in the 50s when I come out to put the dog to bed and maybe write something.

I was listening to a replay of the GOP CNN debate on the radio for a while on the drive home. I almost had to pull over and puke! Turned on the CD player and listened to some Telemann, who had a better sense of history in the early 1700s than these idiots have now.

A press release from the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs dated January 30th announced the dissolution of the White House Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board.

WASHINGTON – Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Joe Lieberman, ID-Conn., and Ranking Member Susan Collins, R-Me., Wednesday thanked the members of the White House Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board (PCLOB) for their service over the past three years and called on the White House to hasten its nomination of members to a newly strengthened, replacement board.

The old board – first created under the 2004 Intelligence Reform and Terrorist Prevention Act – expires Wednesday. But the administration has not been forthcoming about any preparations it may have made for the new board, reconfigured under the Implementing Recommendations of the 9/11 Commission Act of 2007.

The new board will serve the same functions as the old board of advising the President and other members of the executive branch on the privacy and civil liberties implications of new terrorism policies or regulations and overseeing and investigating subsequent government actions to ensure that privacy and civil liberties are upheld.

The new board has been given greater authorities, however, by removing it from the White House, requiring that its five members be Senate confirmed, and giving the board authority to issue subpoenas through the Attorney General. Other changes to the board will require that no more than three members can be of one party; the board will have expanded responsibilities to hold public hearings and inform the public of its activities; and the board will be required to tell Congress if the Attorney General refuses to issue a subpoena it requests. The 2007 9/11 Commission implementation act required that the administration and Congress work together to appoint new board members “in a timely manner to provide for the continuing operation of the Board.” The Administration has nominated no new board members to date.

Sounds nice on paper, but without a board in place there’s not much it can do. I bet the new nominees (if any) won’t be put forth until after the PAA/FISA issue is put to bed, one way or another.

I once thought my shoulder had been hurt by sleeping on it. By the time I learned that that i hard to do at my weight and size, I had a frozen shoulder, or inflammed roator cuff. 14 months of pt to avoid an operation. Whatever it is, shoulders in experience react better to ice.
