As Attaturk noted in the last thread, MSNBC’s election crew of Pat Buchanan and Joe Scarborough, the 2nd best political team on television (Blitzer says CNN is 1st), are on to something. They’ve simplified the McCain campaign slogan as "less jobs and more wars." That sounds like a winner in the Republican Party, given their continued support for George Bush (66 percent in Florida, according to exit polls).
However, Mitt "Chameleon" Romney has shown himself to be infinitely adaptable. I’m expecting him to tout his business experience and come out with something like, "once I’m CEO, there will be even more layoffs, and even more Islamo-fascist wars." It will be a tough choice for Republicans.
Rudy Guiliani told us last night that "I never back down from a fight." He said that after declining to engage in the contests in Iowa, New Hampshire, Montana, Nevada and South Carolina and then quitting before Super Tuesday.
Rudy also said "we ran a campaign that was uplifting," which Joe Biden once translated as "a noun, a verb, and 9/11." Rudy then vowed he’d help "win the terrorists war on us." The best thing he can do to keep American safe is not become President. Bye, bye, Rudy, and thanks for the simplified tax form.
Mitt Romney said last night that "before kids have babies, they should get married." I should write that down so I don’t forget. Unfortunately, Mitt’s speech rudely cut off Mike Huckabee’s concession, so we don’t know whether Huck will put that idea in the Constitution after he becomes St. McCain’s running mate.
Mitt also said that "all the politicians in Washington should be replaced with real people." Apparently, we will not have a Congress under a Romney Administration, following the precedent pursued by the Bush Administration. However, this confirms what I’ve alway suspected: some of those Republicans are probably pod people. The nation is saved.
Breaking: World War III option preserved!
White House officials expressed anger on Tuesday about an appearance in which the United States ambassador to the United Nations, Zalmay Khalilzad, sat beside the Iranian foreign minister at a panel of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on Saturday.
Don’t worry. The story explains they didn’t talk to each other or shake hands.

Here we go again…….
They better get this buillshit straightened out before the general ‘caus the turn out is probably gonna be even higher.

Who/what is Willard point at? Ron Paul? “Hahahahahaha, he wants to end the war. Hahahahahahahahahaha.”
A real knee slapper.
Good Morning Scarecrow,
very scary pod people they are.
Good point about Rudy being all tough talk but a pussy in reality.
“We have to stay on the offense against Islamic terrorists.” If he had any balls as a candidate, he would have gotten very offensive on any reporter that made an issue of his personal life instead of the meek plea “Please don’t judge me on my persoanl life. We all make mistakes.” His personal life is a legitimate issue, for sure. But if he had any balls he would have/could have put an end to it much sooner.
Rudy = Eunich.
Mitt also said that “all the politicians in Washington should be replaced with real people.”
Then why is Mitt running? He’s as bogus as they come.
The fireman in the rat suit sunk his punk ass.
Good morning everyone.
This is scary. It seems the WH is furious that our UN Ambassador to the UN sat on the same stage with an Iranian diplomat at Davos — right on the same stage. Fortunately they didn’t speak to each other or shake hands, which would have given Cheney a heart attack.
I’m really happy that Rudy is gone. Next target: Tweety.
That really sums up the GOP party line very well.
that is priceless
I think Mitt expressed the anti-Washington sentiment about as strongly as I’ve ever heard it. Apparently, it is the city itself that holds some evil curse over everyone who enters. I kept waiting for him to announce where all the real people should meet and begin to govern. Salt Lake City?
Well, if the GOP campaign proves anything, its that the media will simply not tolerate a candidate who does not feed it what it demands.
In a “normal” world, where each early state isn’t a “crucial test” but simply a reflection of who some small, electorally unimportant groups prefer, Rudy’s strategy could have worked. But the media portrays each early state as “crucial” to determining the chances of one or two candidates, and pretty much forces a choice between those two in each state. And if you aren’t one of the two candidates in contention in each race, you become invisible and irrelevant.
IMHO, Rudy blew his chances in the last debate — he gave his former supporters who had gone to McCain or Romney no compelling reason to switch back, and came off almost like a less senile Mike Gravel at times (rambling, unfocussed…)
That was funny. They were also carrying around a 16 foot rat doll type thing at his rallies.
Something about the beltway forming three times the number six?
Yea, that’s what I meant, I though it was a dude in a costume but I could be wrong.
True. they always winnow it down to 2 people, at most, in each state.
Could have been both. Rudy’s a hero. Not.
Originally, I had typed “Rudy’s a her.” Wonder why?
Demented; Deranged; Delusional
is a better summation?
Did anyone else hear McCain’s
viceroyvictory speech? He’s healing the party wounds confident he will get the nomination.on Romney:
where’d I put that emotipuke?
Less Jobs!!
More Wars!!
Go McCain? – USA? USA? USA?
Kerry on Imus
Chris Matthews did one of his seemingly unintenional torpedo jobs on McCain last night. He started off saying something like, ” …as tired as he is, it will be interesting to see if he can make it through Super Tuesday and to the convention.” Then he rambled on to compare “dead man walking” McCain to the obviously fit and healthy Romney.
I’m going to ask this question one more time,
Why is this man still on the air?
Joke if you must, but that slogan does have its proponents. (Wealthy) Retired Republican voters don’t care about jobs and they like wars (purportedly to keep them safe – which they buy hook, line and sinker).
They’re not too crazy about their stock porfolios going south, though.
Not just wealthy ones – stupid poor ones too.
That Orlando voting link story, this gets to me:
Heavier-than-expected turnout in some locations also had elections officials scrambling to make sure polling sites didn’t run out of ballots.
snip
I mean, what if every American showed up to vote? Shouldn’t they have enough just in case?
My question is what does Rudy want for endorsing McCain?
Attorney General?
Saints preserve us.
Morning, Scarecrow.
Morning, all…
more scary
Biodun, you are up early this morning.
Morning crow and all on board
I myself am war weary.
Doughy Pantload: “If Hillary is nominated the Republicans will rally around a ham sandwich”
Good Morning Firedogs!
Here is my quick analysis on the Florida vote.
The FL primary was closed, so only registered D’s could vote for a D and registered R’s could vote for an R. According to the Orlando Sentinel’s article this week, of the 10.1 million registered voters, 2.2 million are independent or minor party, 4.1 million are D and 3.8 million are R. http://www.orlandosentinel.com…..7102.story
The statewide referendum on property tax could be voted on by everyone, and the current numbers on the Division of Elections website shows 4.1 million votes cast on that issue. There were 1.7 million votes cast in the D primary and 1.9 million votes cast in the R primary. That means there were a half million people who voted on the referendum but not in the presidential primary. It looks like independents were under-represented in the overall voting.
Given that the D’s knew their vote was likely to be meaningless, it appears to me that a D could well win Florida in the general. It will be necessary to for the D to get a large majority of the registered independents. For that to happen, I think Obama will need to be the nominee instead of Clinton.
“Homeland” security czar
McCain is beating Hillary in the Orlando Sentinel Poll 47 percent to 44 percent with the remainder voting “neither”. I just voted for Hillary in that poll. It made my skin crawl a little.
yes, but, it doesn’t address intent.
So you noticed that, eh? I have a nasty cold. I was at he Lake last night too, my first visit at night. Somethin’s happening to me…*g*
I tried to find out what the percentage of Republicans is in Florida compared to the rest of the state but I have to believe that a favorability of 66% of the R voters places the overall Bush favorability at right around the national polling figures of the low 30s.
Just sayin’.
question is what does Rudy want for endorsing McCain?

Give him a compass and a canteen and see if he is as dangerous as a 2nd LT!
Do you think the Iraq war recession is starting to affect them?
Maybe I’m watching too many Sopranos reruns, but I’ve never regarded Giuliani’s “campaign” as anything more than a moneymaking scam by New York’s best known crossdresser.
If I’d donated to his run, I’d be wondering WTF?

Uh, in NY that is What DA Fuck
They will rally around some hog jowls.
ahh the Sirens call . . .
Yes, it is beginning to affect them, but they are still buying the security/terra BS in a big way. It is spoon fed to them 24/7 on the teevee.
Using the numbers from the Orlando Sentinel article I linked to above, 66% of the registered R’s in Florida amounts to 25% of the registered voters. They would form the core of the low 30% overall Bush support if you add the few Bush supporters among indenpendents and D’s.
Fresh Scarecrow upstairs
G’morning, Scarecrow and pups. About the Republican VP thingie? There’s a very strong and real chance that McCain’s VP pick will be Minnesota’s own Tim Pawlenty. That has been on the radar for more than two years. Pawlenty is young(er), good-looking in a Romney-esque way, a party loyalist, and acolyte of Bush with mentorship (confirmed) by Cheney and Rove. Pawlenty was pulled from running for U.S. Senate when Norm Colemeleon ran, and Timmer was promised much for bailing on that. He has spent an inordinate amount of time in D.C.
Funny thing is, he likes John McCain. He told John McCain, “You know you’re in my heart!” the other night, and he’s had him on as guest and I get the feeling he really likes him, even though Tweety is against the war and McCain is a hawk.
Edwards bailed
How did Orlando go in the last two presidential elections?
Mitt Romney – The Republican John Kerry, but without the charm.
noooooooooo
Yeah, I know he likes McCain. I really don’t understand the guy. On some level, he’s like a naive kid. He rambles, seems to take everything literally and try to base his understanding on his interpretation of some old movie situation.
Bulletin: Wife just said C-Span said Edwards to withdraw at 1:00 O’clock.
DENVER (AP) — Democrat John Edwards is exiting the presidential race Wednesday, ending a scrappy underdog bid in which he steered his rivals toward progressive ideals while grappling with family hardship that roused voters’ sympathies but never diverted his campaign, The Associated Press has learned.
“It will be necessary to for the D to get a large majority of the registered independents. For that to happen, I think Obama will need to be the nominee instead of Clinton.” Jim White
I think so too. Also, if it comes down to Clinton vs. McCain, not much of a choice…more war vs. more war?
Chris Matthews remarked (in his uniquely admirable way) that Mitt has been very good at “adapting to the marketplace” in various states, e.g. MI and FL. ONly Tweety would refer to such political behavior as adapting to the marketplace. I can’t make this stuff up.
