Don’t need food stamps? tell that to my buddy with aids, or all the people on unemployment that have to pay rent with nothing left over for anything.
And the truth is that welfare for those in need pales in comparison to the welfare received by those who need nothing. I defy anyone who does the math to dispute this (not referring to all of you).

I’m absolutely STUNNED that Bush is trying to block the benefits of the “stimulus” from reaching those who are going to be most devastated by his policies…and who will likely do the most to stimulate the economy by spending. These are the folks who are so poor that they actually don’t submit an income tax return and the retired.

Get this, the “stimulus” is limited to people who make more than $3000 a year. The Pugs are trying to block giving $600 to these folks. Why? Because it would increase the cost of the bill!

Just how many people out there are living on less than $3000 a YEAR? How can ANYONE actually survive on THAT? Yet Bush and his imbeciles won’t even give these people foodstamps, or a bit more to find housing, or get a coffee a day?

There is something sickly insane about the leaders in this country where they expect people to live on under $250 a month!

Like we didn’t already know that you were a nerd. This is not news. But of course I think that being a nerd is a good thing.

I’m in Pacific Beach Washington. This morning everytown around us we either delayed or closed due to snow yet this moring I woke up to 42 degrees and a damp road. This always seems to happen. Everyone else gets a day off while I wind my way through the trees to work. At least our school year will end earlier than everyone elses.

heh heh. I remember reading those things in junior high school, they helped turn me into the anti-war protester that I became at age 15 (oops, dating myself)

Fractal @ <strike>29</strike> 25

Now we are celebrating the fact that Reid has come to his senses, but I think we do not fully understand why he has done so. And if we don’t understand, we cannot ensure that he won’t backslide on this the next time we are not paying attention. That’s why this is a bittersweet moment.

You’re right of course. Is there something going on that we don’t know about? Or how are we going to prod him into senses again if he backslides?

Earlier above or on a previous thread, somebody speculated that Reid & his leadership team may be gaining courage from the huge Dem turnouts in the primaries. Another theory I just came up with — Reid supported Hillary in the Nevada primary, won the state for her (Reid’s son Rory Reid was her campaign director in NV, so Reid is identified with Hillary, Hillary is under threat from Obama for the same old “go along, get along Washington politics,” and from Edwards (yes, still from Edwards) who has promised to “fight to take back the power.” So maybe Reid has decided he needs to show some balls to help Hillary, indirectly. I really don’t know.

Oh yeah, like I am actually buying it. LOL You want me to give Mr. ReddHedd a heart attack on the spot? I just stumbled on the whole collection looking for another book, and started drooling over the reading potential there. I am SUCH a nerd.
