Last night on "60 Minutes" the FBI field agent who interrogated Saddam Hussein after his capture revealed that the politically-correct, ACLU-dominated FBI refused to take the necessary measures to protect American lives.
Piro says no coercive interrogation techniques, like sleep deprivation, heat, cold, loud noises, or water boarding were ever used. "It’s against FBI policy, first. And wouldn’t have really benefited us with someone like Saddam," Piro says.
What a scandal. Agent Piro is clearly a weak, cowardly terror-lover, and he and those in the FBI’s leadership responsible for this travesty should be immediately dismissed.
When Saddam was captured in December 2003, the insurgency — an insurgency he personally planned — was destabilizing Iraq and killing Americans. Worse, Iraq’s extensive caches of WMD could not be located and could’ve been passed on to or discovered by terrorists.
Every minute was critical. It was the perfect ticking-time bomb scenario. Saddam was a high value suspect who no doubt was in possession of information that could’ve saved American lives (and the worst mass murderer since Hitler). Yet here’s the FBI, wringing their hands about "policy" and wasting months and months chatting away with this monster. They even gave him cookies on his birthday.
Those true patriots and brave terror warriors at the National Review understand that waterboarding is necessary — even something that Americans should be proud of. It’s just no big deal, akin to a swimming lesson.
I look forward to the Republicans in the House and Senate’s call for investigations into this criminal negligence by the FBI.

Don’t the cookies constitute “aid and comfort to the enemy”?
treacherous and treasonous, I tell ya.
So Saddam Freakin Hussein does not get waterboarded then just who does?
Hi there, Blue Texan…
Exactly.
Exactly my comments last night as my family watched 60 Minutes.
-G
Why so soft on the Hitler of the Middle East George?
-G
The Clintons probably feel like waterboarding Toni Morrison right now:
http://tpmelectioncentral.com/….._obama.php
At least his momma had the sense to slap him upside the head when he told her he gave Saddam the cookies!
Morning, Raven!
That segment was so instructive about how real, effective interrogation works, explained by a skilled professional, and in such contrast to the ignorant yahoos baying for torture.
Does anyone else think that maybe George and Darth like to torture people to prove how tough they are? Maybe its an over compensation for being draft dodgers? McCain served and is against torture how many in Congress who served are pro torture? How many who served in combat are pro torture?
What part of “do onto others as you would have them do onto you ” is our dyslexic Christian President reading upside down or backwards?
Great snarky post, BT!
Does anyone think America noticed when the guy said that Saddam didn’t want any part of dealing with bin Laden, whom he considered to be a threat?
Mornin? Dang, I been up for 5 hours. . .Hi Ron!
Obama’s raking ‘em in now. Caroline, Ted, Toni…
Watch for the Clinton attacks to ratchet up. Again.
John McCain’s great victory in Iraq claims another 5 US soldiers today.
-G
Clearly lying. That’s why we should’ve waterboarded him until he admitted that he and bin Laden were partners in 9/11.
Right now, the meme says “He had WMD, and hid them in Syria” or something similar, even as the UN and all of our inspectors as well as Saddam said there were none. If he had said the same thing even while being tortured, would this have seriously undermined the ability of the Admin to make that claim? Maybe they didn’t torture him because they didn’t want to know.
As I watched that segment, I couldn’t help but think that if the CIA and military intelligence (I know, that’s a contradiction in terms) weren’t so picky about hiring gays, they’d have more young Arabic speaking agents to do the work that needs to be done!
Iran and Egypt ’to restore ties’
Mr Mottaki said he was waiting to hear a response from Egypt
Officials in Tehran have announced that Iran is close to restoring full diplomatic relations with Egypt.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said that the relationship was ”going ahead in a natural way”.
Other US backed dictators might jump ship if they see the US torturing the head of state.
If you truly thought that Saddam had WMD and torture was not ever used to get him to talk. Then why torture people for lesser crimes?
Or was Bush worried about the UN or somebody asking if Saddam was tortured and then maybe someday having to go on trial himself for war crime violations.
1,740 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen Blue Texan and the Firepup Freedom Fighters:
Great catch, brother Blue, now how do we infuse enough hormones inta the Democratic Congress ta stop the consolidation of the facist brave new world with the telecoms today? It seems that all this shit is of a piece here…the brankruptin’ of the treasury through tax cuts and stock market larceny, perpetual war and the transfer of the remainin’ equity in the public treasury to corporate holdin’ companies and the reconsolidation of the telecoms as the last repository of US dollars. Of course the breakin’ og the Geneva conventions was jest a piece of the deconstruction of America as a broker for peace anywhere.
Where do we go from here today, now that everybody knows that we have transfered power from the federal government to the corpoate oligarchy…seems we only have a small window ta crawl through ta consolidate opposition in the Democratic Party and hit the streets in preparation for the Convention in Denver.
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION…WE GOTTA USE IT OR LOSE IT!!!
Is it possible that GWB has succeeded where Nasser failed, in uniting most of the Middle East into a unified superstate?
You’ve nailed it…if the US isn’t going to torture Saddam for WMD info, what possible rationale can there be for them to torture anyone else? Aside, of course, from legal and moral considerations (which don’t appear to concern them much anyway).
Iran finally pulled down the street sign named after the assassin of Sadat.
Nice of them!
-G
Have you noticed how in the past two or three weeks the branding has moved from “Hillary”, to “The Clintons”?
Yep especially one who we sold the weapons they used to kill their own people with. I could see several Israeli Prime Ministers jumping ship after that, Israel after all is the real governing power in Palestine.
They are responsible for what happens there and one day America will not veto a UN resolution condemning Israel.
Has supporting evil dictators ever really worked out to our advantage in the long run.
Ahmadinejad also was invited to the Hajj in Saudi Arabia and he’s planning on visiting Iraq in March.
The brilliant Bush strategy has sure isolated and neutralized Iran.
-G
Yep.
Rev. Huck sez they were sent to Jordan.

Piro says no coercive interrogation techniques, like sleep deprivation, heat, cold, loud noises, or water boarding were ever used. “It’s against FBI policy, first. And wouldn’t have really benefited us with someone like Saddam. Actually, all we needed was a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue, Christ, the guy became a magpie,” Piro says.
OT on the SOTU address tonight, youtube
…and snark from “Brilliant at Breakfast:”
Is the FISA vote today? Great Bush is going to lie about FISA in the State of the Union and the Press and Dems will say nothing about those jerks listening to my phone calls.
Which given this administration’s respect for the Constitution and human rights does anyone think that Bush is not spying on us?
Although to be fair Saudi citizens, even bin Ladens all had their rights respected after 9/11 and got to leave the country without the FBI asking them a single question.
I on the other hand have to ask for a lawyer if questioned by the police but Saudis don’t even need lawyers the police CAN’T question them! Law and Order my @##!
Yep — Senate doesn’t come back into session today until 2 pm ET. In the meantime, any calls and FAXes folks can continue to make would be much appreciated. Will have something up on it in a bit…
Great post, Blue Texan. Sort of reopens the whole discussion of the CIA’s criminal destruction of its torture tapes. Experts like the FBI interrogators would have been able to cite chapter & verse from an actual interrogation using “enhanced” techniques to prove they are worthless, not to mention medieval & barbaric.
Besides, isn’t it widely assumed now that some person(s) in the White House actually viewed those torture tapes? Pulverize the tapes, immunize the telecoms, stonewall the courts, defy congressional subpoenas, cover it all up, get out’a Dodge before the sun comes up. Scum bags.
I loved the FAX-a-Thon. Also, thanks for the relinks to Correspondence School and TRex’s recipe for angry letters from liberals.
REMINDER the Senate convenes at 2 pm:
so plenty of time to get those phone calls and faxes in …
like Scarecrow says @ 58 in the last post, you know what to do.
A professional courtesy from one war criminal to another?
It’s all part of Bush’s cunning plan.
Wouldn’t it be great to somehow get the internal correspondence on this issue from the FBI? It had to have been discussed…find out who advocated torturing Saddam, who resisted, and why?
Right on BT!
Clearly, we need Snarlin Arlen And his evil counterpoint HOJO to start investigating this immediately.
That oughta keep em busy long enough for us to get some real bidness ntaken care of.
Great snark.
To any and all FBI sources…a leak of this info would be a patriotic act…
Given the current level of violence in our regular prison system why do we need to torture people?
Yeah or the Dems could do their job and subpoena that information.
And the follow up on contempt of congress would be…?
Jail! JAIL! JAIL! Until they talk!
Aside from Sadam Hussein, I wonder how the other “face cards” in captivity were treated and what their status is. What ever happened to Tariq Aziz?
As an employee of Bushco there was no need to waterboard him, Bushco
already knew more than he did, they didn’t even offer the witness
protection program, just hung him to shut him up.
I can’t believe I’m going to reference John McCain…the reason we don’t torture people is not about them, it’s about us…if we do that sort of thing, we have no moral authority to complain when anyone else does.
George Washington on torture:
“Should any American soldier be so base and infamous as to injure any [prisoner]. . . I do most earnestly enjoin you to bring him to such severe and exemplary punishment as the enormity of the crime may require. Should it extend to death itself, it will not be disproportional to its guilt at such a time and in such a cause… for by such conduct they bring shame, disgrace and ruin to themselves and their country.” – George Washington, charge to the Northern Expeditionary Force, Sept. 14, 1775
How did we know Saddam Hussein has WMD?
We have the receipts.
I would love to see these chair-borne motherfuckers in Navy SERE School…no, really I would. My guess is that 8 out of 10 would be crying for their Mommies to come rescue them from the mean ol’ SERE instructors. The remaining two would become either advocates of hardcore torture or be donating to the ACLU at the end of the experience.
Idiots.
You and I would be waterboarded. You know, American citizens declared “enemy combatants” because of unAmerican anti-war positions, anti-Bush positions, anti-GOP positions, etc. THAT is the type of “terrorist” that gets waterboarded.
That and the stray goatherd from the sticks in Afghanistan.
