Flashback to Dubya’s triumphant first State Of The Union. He was so hopeful and positive back then.
I’m sure you all saw this evening’s SOTU address, and you all probably have a better idea of the actual state of the union than Bush does, so I won’t bother with a recap. However, through judicious application of alcohol, dramamine and my masculine wiles, I was able to obtain the top secret first draft of tonight’s address, which is significantly different from the one that pre-empted Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. I will now share with you some excerpts and highlights:
- "The American economy is strong, especially when compared with the Great Depression, but it needs a well-placed firecracker to really set it off. After reading a lot of books, I now believe that we must convert the United States to a 100% jello-based economy by the year 2013. It will take hard work and sacrifice, but I know America is up to the challenge. To lead this vital effort, I am proud to present Bill Cosby as the first African-American to ever serve as Secretary Of Jello. It is a great honor for him and for me – please give us a warm round of applause."
- Bush presents three-point plan to eliminate dependency on foreign oil. Point 1 is to crack down on the sale of steroids and HGH, freeing them up for the creation of "Barry Bonds Switchgrass." Point 2 is that someone told him cold fusion was close to a breakthrough. There is no Point 3.
- Bush warns America that he has seen documentary evidence that Mars has deadly WMD in the form of pods, tripods, and perhaps iPods ("Some say that those were just movies, but there’s no proof that Mars does not want to invade America – I will not stand by as danger-related program activities possibly gather"). He announces that Operation: Mars, Bitches! will be accelerated so that we can nuke the Martians before they nuke us. We will also send troops, equipped with windbreakers and snorkels to combat the harsh atmospheric conditions.
- Bush reiterates the importance of enhanced surveillance capabilities to allow adequate enforcement of the underwear-must-be-changed-every-half-hour law introduced in his first SOTU (see video).
- Bush clarifies why we need telecom immunity: "It’s just like when you get your shots at the doctor, see. You don’t want the telecoms to get sick, do you? You and your children are putting that phone up against your faces every day. You want that phone to be healthy, but some people want your family to catch diseases from it and die horrible painful deaths."
In other words, more of the same.

Eli!
Eli hi!
woohoo
Hiya, Ann! Sorry about that, there was a bit of a schedule change.
Hiya, BSRH!
hi and bye. It’s been a long day.
BTW, anyone else get error messages when posting this eve?
Eli – i would dive but i’m too sore from that forking bellyflop i did about the stfu speech.
Hmm Andy Card or Phil Simms…
good Card is gone now
Can’t stand watching Tweety any more. Gotta tune it out. What happened to Keith?
Hey, Eli doing Late Nite!
Tweety did a decent job on Card. Ol’ Tweety’s a flip flopper. Maybe Olbermann’s ratings are giving him pause.
I, um, sort of accidentally volunteered for it.
Ok, off to bed for ColberT. Thanks for making the spoiled tapioca served up tonight a bit easier on the stomach.
*waving g’nite to all the leaving sleepy pups*
evenin Eli….will just one person other than KO…exclaim that chimp is buttnekkid on the red carpet?
slow comments ’cause we’re still gobsmacked
Andy Card, former Bush administration member, raging pud.
-G
Oh God. Opie Delay on with Tweety. He’s my critter, Adam Putnam, FL-12. On behalf of those of us who fought him…we’re sorry.
No.
This has been another edition of Simple Answers To Simple Questions.
Eeeeeewwwwww, Adam Putnam. Ick.
where’s FL-12?
You mean you weren’t all tuned in to the Underground Cities on the History Channel with us?
Hugs out to Mrs. K8–an iconic pup. We in the Sunshine house know the challenges enduring medical stuff. Take care, warm lady who helped make so many of us feel the heart of the lake and stay.
Impeach the crooks or their will be no justice
another bushco flunky – this one a gurlllllllllll lol
Quite alright! Gave me a chance to read the post and get something to eat before the barrage.
There’s a history channel?
I probably ain’t even gonn a vote tomorrow. I haven’t gotten out to early voting and I need to run an errand at lunch.
justice? justice? in amurrikah? nahhhhhhhhhhhh
Tampa Bay and just east.
I think someone had a serious talk with Tweety!
impeach the crooks or there will be plenty of pardons and retroactive immunity for the cabal…(not you or me of course)
and you are bragging about it? what a shame that you think your vote matters so little that you are willing to not step up to your duty as a citizen. so what if you are busy, make time.
yeah all those emails and phonecalls to daddy GE lol
ya think?,mebbe the shrink adjusted his meds
Missed the SOTU myself, had a friend over for dinner so that came before the Chimpoooo. Sounds as if it went swimmingly! All the right notes sounded, the American people are confident once again, ready to offer more of their sons and daughters to the total effort of American expansionism around the world. I can sleep well tonight.
Now that I think of it, I think they told him journalists are supposed to report the news, not become the news! Pundits are supposed to discuss elections, not influence some of them adversely!
Shorter Kathleen Sebelius :
Stop being an obstructionist dick.
NOW they bring on rachel??? WTF???
damn near midnight!
Yup. Please go vote for Edwards, even if it just helps push the agenda his way.
LOL. That comment is much more effective than her speech!
Did anyone notice that when MSNBC showed the three way shot of Dick, Nancy, and Dubya, the chairs and icon formed a heart? ew.
way to go rachel
hahahahahahahaha

Hey all, I just uploaded my video of “The Kiss”. I was so shocked by it that I missed most of the speech because I was editing this.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=mDbt9fCpgKI
Polling on Bush’s legacy.
He’s doing great.
Vote now.
-G
niceeeee
I’m in FL-24. Tom Feeney. Douchebag.
Brilliant!
Excellent!
Hi folks….
Bush’s SOTU = Old Bag of Tricks Surging into Oblivion
I think there’s a global reaction it’s time to turn the page…
She did her hair different! Today she has bangs!
Went back and rated it. Forgot the first time!
Bob, it looks like it’s time to retrofit the float with a pair of glasses.
-G
Very nice, CTBob! Loved the narrative. I kinda think you might be in Shays’ district. Correct?
dugg your post, Eli
Not bragging. Just matter of fact. i hardly ever voted in primaries in NJ, it was so late and the race was over by then. Same thing now. No delegates. it’s no election at all really.
Tweety did a decent job on Card. Ol’ Tweety’s a flip flopper.
What – did Matthews say something? I musta missed it.
I still can’t believe, this soon after The State of The Onion, that the pundits have ignored it, pretty much in its entirety, and moved on to tomorrow’s politics. I mean, a
brand new sixteen wordsthe same old sixteen words, with one “n” substituted – Iraq becomes Iran… and no one cares, no one is paying any attention, no one even bothers to pretend that there’s any credibility there. The polls have said, for fucking forever, that the prez was/is irrelevant – but tonight is the first time that I’ve seen it so starkly, unblinkingly, reinforced, if not magnified, in the post SOTU coverage.
Finally, finally, thank the Whoever-It Is-Upstairs, George W. Bush, the 43rd president of the United States of America, has realized the utter lack of attention, the total lack of respect, the full recognition that he is everything that this country no longer wants, needs, or cares about – that he has so fully, completely, and without deviation, earned.
Now I’m all weepy.
Maybe you can do another one with the three of them, set to Bizarre Love Triangle.
I’m right next door, but since I’m in a safe Dem district (Rosa DeLauro), I can spend all my efforts on bringing on Shaysie’s retirement.
It’s gonna be a FUN year!
if you don’t vote, you have no right to bitch about the results. tsk tsk
Waving at you. *g*
Cool, thanks!
So, did Shays get tongue?
CTBob- k, thanks for info. But you really must be right next door! Only one CT rep left to bring down!
I already know the result. For Clinton= 0 delegates; for BO = 0 delegates; For Edwards = 0 delegates. What the hell kinda election is that? What else? Mayor. Basically unopposed. And a constitutional amnedment. It depends if I think it’s worth it to go vote no on that.
wow, check out the sitemeter
back atcha ecahn.. lovely evening we had ;o}
117,552 individual hits today
I bet RGB is glad that the site was behaving its self today…..
Of course. Remember, it’s a small state. Short Ride says so!
That is amazing – mods must have been very busy. Thanks to all of them.
Gotta run. wanted to say to the late night pups we all deserve a pat on the back for our work on that (first) cloture vote today. I really believe that they know we’re there and we’re politically active (except for me not voting in a beauty contest).
*waving to eCAHN and juslin* I’ll make it up there to one of the NYC meet ups one of these days!
The entire FDL crew was working hard to keep it smooth for ya’ll.
Yep. Glad you were able to come.
I’ve been busy with other stuff since Friday night, so first time I’ve hooked back up.
Wait, there are NYC FDL meetups? I get up to NYC every once in a while.
And, CTBob- my take is that Jim Himes will beat Shays handily. What’s your sense from CT?
We’ll get you in “the city” eventually.
and looking forward to another time
Gotta agree with Suzanne. The vote will be important for the momentum it gives the winner…and I think Nelson was right when he said the FL delegation will eventually be seated.
Email me at xx@xx.com & I’ll add you to the list. I also notify FDLers in OT comments several times in advance.
Eli, eCAHN can hook you up…
Eli, let me know when you have her e-addy and i’ll x it out.
Did everyone behave properly?
Got it.
Okay, they just brought up Gore. I’ve been thinking, as a Gore fan (bigtime), I realize now why Gore decided not to run. He’s right. The Clintons would have trashed him royally. They would have been as bad with Gore as they have been with Obama. Maybe worse, if that’s possible. Not only does the Big Dog not like to lose, he’s losing his chance of living in the WH again. He’ll do anything to get back there. So far he’s trashed his relationship with the entire black race (for the most part) and seriously downgraded his legacy in pursuit of going back to the WH. It’s not pretty! I hope he stops while he’s still got anything left, because, Lord help me, I like him.
You are such a dilligent & responsible mod. Many thanks.
edited out :)
Let your imagination be your guide.
Wait. Did Fucktard say anything about AIDS? Some clown on Fox the other night said he would ’cause it was important to him. Right.
OMG, McCain and Clinton. The two losers, as planned.
Say, here comes Michael Bloomberg to the rescue.
aw shucks, its not just me. there is a whole squad of folks – i’m just the front man.
He extended the Africa program. What I want to know is what the payouts have been on the original $15 billion in 3 years.
I have to vote in my own place tomorrow? I never did that. I always voted early.
And a very talented “front” you are.
I think most of ‘em are gone now – my cursor’s moving again.
My #57 took about ten minutes – type, wait for it to show up, edit…
(note to self – stfu – busy night – get over it)
(second note to self – remember to thank mods)
(third note – writing more than one note-to-self may indicate a problem). heh.
Gotta run. Voting tomorrow? Doubtful.
ecahn, iirc, i read it is actually a cut just using words that did not make it seem like a cut. am trying to remember where i read it, perhaps it was at the group news blog or americablog?
As long as your self doesn’t start writing notes back.
Hear hear. Or is it “here here”? Never have been sure about that. Anyway — Suz, you rock.
Damn, Rachel is good!
You would almost think that Dubya’s speechwriters have been trolling the progressive blogs for themes that might work “rule of law”, “cutting the deficit”, “withdrawing troops from Iraq”, all the things that he hasn’t done and his policies have systematically destroyed. The fact that he has to methodically lie about these things shows just how desperate he actually is.
thats MY girl – she can stop all that bullshit repugs spin
As long as your self doesn’t start writing notes back.
Oh, but yeah, I talk to myself – and I answer… I figure that as long as an argument doesn’t break out – I’m fine.
I read somewhere that it was an extension, billed as an increase. I get really tired trying to keep track of W’s lies.
Think Progress debunked it too… Watching Shrub while sick it not a good thing… ;-)
Depends on how much cash the Republicans dump into Shays’s campaign. So far, we’re looking good. Jim’s got a solid chance of knocking off a 10-term incumbent. But it’s gonna be a battle, no doubt about it.
Is our SOTUs repeatin’ yet?
That speech was so mostly desultry and otherwise laugable or pathetic and phoned-in I couldn’t even work up much outrage. I feared my outrage after six and a quarter years*, and tend to avoid exposure to the actual sounds and sights of this administration and read what these guys say instead. Getting on in years, and… gotta watch the blood pressure. But I kinda listened and just as he would start an outrage inducing moment, he went off on something else, or it got silly or stupifying.
Still wants to privatize social security, huh? Is he gonne offer that great invest at 2% and pay 3% for the honor deal? I do hope so. I think the most reasonable part of the speech was the manimal warnings. Gotta be someting going on we don’t know about for him to keep repeating such dumb sounding stuff.
Actually, the disease program stuff sounded good, if you haven’t been paying attention to what his administration has actually done (hand out 6 bucks with one hand, take back 7 with another, and jiggle some obscure regulations to kill some folks for domestic political pandering purposes). So if you don’t mind that little inconsistency, the disease stuff sounded OK.
* dumb-ass me gave him half a chance for almost a year. Why… I dunno…
BTW, a grand day among the blogs I should acknowledge, for the calls to senators and a stalling of the FISA with immunity. That IS an accomplishment, and FDL, Greenwald (nice email Jane), and every other blog that was a part of motivating people to call are to be lauded with joy and verve!! *G*
I haven’t seen the final vote yet, but I’d sure like to know who swung who and why.
I fear it’s a short term win, but Hope springs eternal in her new ballet slippers . . . *G*
What I’m really concerned about is that I don’t see anyone addressing the following. I’ve posted this concern else where:
Tonight, our republic was fully sold out.
Welcome to the new United Corporate States Of America.
In his first five minutes, BoyKing signed the papers, inked the deal, and sealed it with his announcement he would issue executive orders to ensure the handover proceeds smoothly.
The Dem’s were shocked, stunned, like deer in headlights, hit with a brick on the head while Pelosi and Shooter gleamed their glomming glow of total and ultimate power. All in the first five or ten minutes. Game over. The rest was salt in the wound. The look on the dem’s faces was incredibly sad for me to see. Like they finally get it, they are a target and the bullet is flown, and they KNOW it’s for them.
The House, and The Senate have been nullified as forms of government.
The Executive Branch functions as a CEO, and answers to The Board Of Directors.
Obama, or any Prez, even HRC, will answer to The Board, from here on in. And so now the rich will fight amongst themselves to coalecese their power even further.
And the military forces sit on the Board, and serve to protect the interests Of The Board, not We The People.
And no one is talking about it. No one. That I can find.
I’ve read a lot of Chimpy Derision N Snark that’s so rightously deserving, but, no acknowledgement that BoyKing lowered the boom, and did it with a BANG of a headwhacking. On us all. Which is how I saw it. The dem’s faces and eyes on the cutaways said it all.
“He extended the Africa program. What I want to know is what the payouts have been on the original $15 billion in 3 years.”
Loads of cash to the
faith-healers…I mean faith-based abstinence programs that argue that condoms don’t help stop the spread of the disease…zilch to any group that also offers family-planning information.Yes, I was thinking earlier that the speech was a bit unusual- not in presentation, not in the lying, but in the use of progressive memes as buzz.
just wait til the dems are in the WH….lets see how bipartisan repugs will be………..hmmmmmm dont think so
And she can talk faster, too!
Great photo of Obama being gracious with Hillary tonight at the SOTU
hope you are feeling better ct. next year, get your flu shot, dood!
I don’t know the answer to that, but this is what I found:
link
I started it, but it was just too horrible. Dick smirking behind him made it even worse.
I’d read the transcript, but I can’t read anything Bush says without *hearing* his horrible voice with perfect clarity.
We’ll likely have a brokered convention in which the person that came in with the most delegates may not leave as the nominee. That would surely be disappointing to the supporters of whoever got the most votes coming in, but it’s a very real prospect. Just sayin’.
Yes, Mother! I shall… ;-)
Yes, especially since Shays had the district with all the CT hedge fund managers. Still, his last win was narrow.
I’m in NYC but volunteered to work for Jim in the crunch time.
Damn, I forgot about both of those. I totally should have worked in something about manimals. Maybe even the problem of whether manimals should be eligible for Social Security.
Thanks for info CTBob. Nice if BA could do an update with Himes. Any new news there, apart from the kiss?
see eli… this is why i dont watch or listen to bushco bullshit… it makes me want to do crazy stuff….
Yep. That’s about what I thought about the first $15 billion. It’s pretty simple arithmetic. Why doesn’t the MSM keep track? (Don’t answer that.)
has there ever been a SOTU with less applause?
Or content?
Nancy is non plussed taht her fav Prez is cheating on her
affection…poor Laura…Nancy has the goodies Georgie wants…
georgie got her goodies already…all his friends are under the bus
What a back stabber.
I couldn’t figure out Nancy’s expression, at times it looked pained then devolved… On FISA, I greatly enjoyed the complete silence from the Dems while the Repugs leapt to their feet…!
Jim’s been keeping busy. Plus, he’s really reaching out to the 4th district’s large Latino community. Here’s a video of him speaking Spanish:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ff9dowh3jNE
Well, I gotta go sleep now. What a fun day, Firepups! Good times…
I did not watch the entire speech; they would have to take me to the hospital by ambulance if I had. Just couldn’t do it. Did the jerk say anything about Afghanistan or Pakistan? I haven’t heard any of the pundits say anything about them.
Larue, can you explain a bit please? What did you hear in the first five minutes, exactly?
from reading comments on the lake – it was all recycled bushco bullshit from his 7 years in power…
CT,
You can get Tami-flu now. It’s supposed to lessen the duration and severity of the flu quite a bit.
The new wedge issue?
“Damn, I forgot about both of those. I totally should have worked in something about manimals. Maybe even the problem of whether manimals should be eligible for Social Security.”
Minority foreign alien Islmaobuddhafashionista switchgrass manimal kids eating our clean coal, and eligible for social security, bio-engineered for phonics beating our youngin’ in school. Damn no wonder the Democrats are so timid. They don’t know what to do?
I think the lightened up on his meds tonight. Did he read all the lines, or skip some things. Sounded like he skipped some passages to me, but I need to recover before I read the print copy.
you shudda listened to me ann lol
Manimals took our jobs!!!
I bet the Chinese will hold all the patents on them plantmanimals who will be beat us out.
At one point, later on in the speechifyin’, Dim Son took a drink of “water” and then promptly slurred the next one or two words out of his mouth. Anyone else catch that?
my kitchen awaits my clean-up time… i was on the lake a long time…. anyone have a clean-up person i can borrow?? no? oh hell i gotta go then :o(
Did the jerk say anything about Afghanistan or Pakistan?
Yes.
Just don’t ask me what it was – I don’t remember…
ears heard, brain rejected as crap – you know how it goes…
I liked before the SOTU started, and Brian Williams said, “The president likes the trains on time…”
OT But The pollsters are getting McCain’s hopes up about California.
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITI…..eref=yahoo
“>McCain Rises in the West
The big problem is that the poll mentions that McCain is picking up support from “liberal and moderate Republicans”. That’s a red flag that they are not polling California Republicans. Those folks are independents that vote “for Republicans” on occasion (like Ahhnold). But the actual GOP registrants are about as Conservative as one can find.
And the Repug leadership has, for the first time in decades, excluded Independents from voting in the Republican Primary in California. So suddenly all those votes evaporate into the miasma.
there has already been some tabulation of mail-in ballots and poll-workers have said that this is beginning to be a real issue. “They are sending in ballots with the names of candidates written on the ballot that won’t be counted”, said one official in the Secretary of States Office. “People should realize that Independents can vote only in two Party Primaries that have allowed this…the Democrats and the American Independent Party. If one is an independent one cannot vote for a Republican, Green Party, or Peace and Freedom Party candidate. Those are restricted to those registered in the Party.”
As Registration and Change of Registration deadlines have passed many supporters of McCain and Ron Paul will either find that their mail-in votes denied (actually they will never know), or they will be denied a Republican Party ballot at the polling-place.
That’s assuming I could get a Doctor’s appt, like tomorrow, not here, we’re hemorrhaging doctors and none are replacing them! We’ve a serious health care crisis here…
Was that something about man-on-dog hybrids? Or maybe animatronic Romneyoids?
Here in Mi. Hillary kept her name on the ballot while Edwards and Oboma kept their word. They didn’t campaign here AND took their name off the ballots. Hill is using trickery to get our delegates.
I think you’re thinking of Sanimals and Taggimals.
Yep, no important issues on the Florida ballot tomorrow:
Toxins upon toxins! Take excellent care, CT. Green tea with lemon. Japanese food in general, in fact.
I didn’t know that about the CA GOP primary. Man, that complicates things for McCain. The CA GOP is an insane rump disgracing the distinguished and often prgressive history of California Republican party (and I speak that as a lifelong Democrat, but need to be fair). I cannot imagine them voting for McCain. Unless they receive Direct Orders from the The Party Headquarters (that is how the operate here, even more than nationally).
To them, the barely tolerable Gubernator who talks a good game but either cannot carry through or slips back int reactionaryism is a rank and hated Bolshevik, even though they are careful not to say it publicly (though the slip up from time to time).
Those with the clap definitely seemed to be on one side of the butt-crack.
Problem is in CA, The Party Headquarters will probably order a vote for the hybrid plastimal candidate: Romney.
Did you watch it? If so, then you saw what I saw and heard. First five or ten minutes.
I don’t have photo recall, so I’m looking for a vid or transcript to answer you more specifically.
His statements about executive signings to back up his points rang telling. That alone, should be of great concern. It’s how he’s managed to turn the Executive into a Single Source Of Control, and neuter House And Sentate.
But if you watched and listened, you heard it, too. *G*
True, and I sweeten it with honey!
Yes, I can relate!
When the republic is unwell, business hereabouts is good.
Kind of a conundrum: what to root for?
What do really think they want all those rhino horns and bear gall-bladders for…and they are using prisoners for these cloning experiments, too! I saw it in a Harry Harryhausen movie!
I’m seeing manimal rights….
PEMA…
(and radical manimal rights: MLF)
Morminal!
Evening pups! We did watch dufus but missed much of the content as the four legged had a lot to say during the speechifying, he kept attacking the tube and growling and barking up such a storm we were rolling on the floor. What we did could be summed up same as old shit said a different way… No wonder the right kept getting up and down reminded me of a Catholic mass… up down…now kneel… now up… now genuflect… ooops up again.. they really must know their parts !!… When IT was done speechifying we partook in some chicken ravioli with a tomato meat sauce … fresh bread and a nice salad with dijon mustard dressing… Oh well lets see what we can find for desert.. to enjoy time at the lake with
Huh! That’s about the only thing he hasn’t fucked up! But then again, he hasn’t tried.
Thanks for explaining, but actually I missed quite a bit at the start. I had to join in-progress. (Fortunately it wasn’t too difficult to amp my outrage up sufficiently to get caught up.)
Kirk, I hear ya. My feeling is that all elections are worth our while, all the way from local water commission board to the POTUS. Get out there and get your voice heard, no matter what.
dayam mahant – you’re making me hungry..and happy for your good appetite!
yeap
kirk, nahant said he’s gonna make chili for the next bear creek meet up. i’m just saying…
I think the national party is hurting us with the ban on FL…I’ve heard people say, “the Democrats don’t bother to come here, don’t care what I think, why should I vote for them?” Those who don’t follow the primary-date machinations don’t care why-they just feel snubbed. The bill that moved our primary also got us a paper-trail ballot-we couldn’t have not moved our primary without killing the paper-trail provision.
Howard Dean and Karen Thurman, FL Dem party chair, need to make a deal.
Eli, you scared me. I thought I might have accidently recorded the SOTU instead of Sarah Conner!
I wonder if Bush slurs when he says “Spurring New Cold Nuclear and coal slurry production.”
It likely does those things, but it’ll take a hefty chunk out of your pocketbook even if it is covered by your RX program. 3 times out of 4 times i’ve seen that stuff go out? In no way is that even worth that kinda money. If it’s so bad that it needs antibiotics? Ask for a ZPak if you prefer to get somethign not in the usual ‘cillins. Generic now and pretty effective in most cases. It’s also given to those with the penicillin and amoxicillian(and all their cousins) allergies.
I’d only go for TamiFlu if it was last resort or i knew that nothing else would clobber it.
Well all I need is two to three days notice if you want my chili…. no one gets any until eight hours into day two of cooking…. dfay three it gets even better… Suz and I will make an apple pie… just like mom made… honest

Boo hoo, I haven’t read anything ALL DAY, and see this from Eli and laughted my ass off!! PODS< TRIPODS AND PERHAPS IPODS… Eli, I"m sending this to the curators of photography…</p>
And Preview gives me all sorts of punctuation that I didn’t put in.
I do think Kennedy’s endorsement of Obama is on a par with Oprah’s endorsement! My wife has voted for Teddy and her Pappy voted for him, she was visibly disappointed with Teddy endorsing Obama! She’s a Hill fan, tho, I’m still working on her for Edwards…
i no longer watch fox anything. not much difference between the fictional programing and their ‘news’ coverage
here in CA, we still haven’t recovered from the property tax cuts (courtesy of Southern Pacific and other megacorp property owners) of Prop 13 and evil progeny.
irrespective of their substance blood levels, i can not comprehend how anyone who styled themselves as having the remotest political interest – much less liberal values – would abdicate their franchise on such basic issues as funding of state services.
Who is better for the US: Dubya or SkyNet?
Discuss.
Prolly, but he sure does manage to say “terrisssssstssssss” really well!
what do you mean i’m baking?
wait, let’s table this discussion of the meetup until late late nite posts – i’ll dicuss with you the repercussions of volunteering me then (laughing)
Happy to be of service! Your photography has curators?
I do watch the sports … kinda hard to spin a live hockey game.. but they couldn’t keep up with the play..
i’m a comin’
(just crossing my fingers it’s not Pantheacon weekend)
we can work on the scheduling on my late late nite thread later tonight (and not sully eli’s thread)
eli, i’m sorry i brought up the meetup and am trying to stop it from hijacking your thread
Hey, I participated in the hijacking my own self.
Could you be referring to his “I’ve instructed the bureaucracy not to implement programs not voted upon by the Congress (i.e., slipped in in committee)? Isn’t that how the issue on the Asst. Attorney Generals getting confirmed was slipped in by the Repugs?
The Transcript:
http://www.allheadlinenews.com/articles/7009860334
Taxes, tax cuts. Permanent. Backed by signing order and vetoed by him if Congress don’t accede to him.
“I also asked you to stop slipping earmarks into committee reports that never even come to a vote. Unfortunately, neither goal was met. So this time, if you send me an appropriations bill that does not cut the number and cost of earmarks in half, I’ll send it back to you with my veto. And tomorrow, I will issue an executive order that directs federal agencies to ignore any future earmark that is not voted on by Congress. If these items are truly worth funding, Congress should debate them in the open and hold a public vote.”
“Make the tax relief permanent. And members of Congress should know: If any bill raises taxes reaches my desk, I will veto it.”
Free trade proclamations, ethical medical research . . . everything he said about our foreign interventions, and the unspoken RIGHT to do so . . . all sold to the Board Of Directors, to parcel out in sole source contracts, like the some 1-2 Trillion gone already?
I guess that pretty much sums up the end game I see he announced.
You?
oops – my bad
Heh, tough decision since they’re both bent on total annihilation of man… ;-)
No, it is the tripods comment that I’m sending to the photography curators. You are so talented and hilarious. And I still haven’t read anything of all FDL tonight.
I really didn’t know what it cost. I should have known it cost the earth, though.
Thanks for that. I walked in just in time to miss the whole thing.
Well what are we waiting for the way weather at the lake was today who would notice… Sorry Eli.. don’t mean to step on your thread… so
I dugg it just for you Eli!
(whew) ok, eli said it was ok
nahant, i am supplying the glorious location
kirk, i was thinking either the last weekend in feb or the first in march – are there conflicts with those?
Heh. Thank you, you are too kind.
Or whether manimals get the stimulus payment. And whether they will spend it on switchgrass. Like they always do.
Very funny post, Eli.
Good evening dear friends. Anyonne up for ice cream? The colors are as realistic as Bush’s take on the state of THIS union.
Maybe. But Hillary’s breaking of the embargo reeks of pandering and trying to win the nomination unfairly because Edwards and Obama held to the rules.
What the party should have said is that they would not tabulate these States final UNTIL the official submission date and that the State party should allow mail-in ballots until that later deadline. Thus the first part wouldd have represented a “beauty contest” but would actually count as part of the final Florida delegation.
And why couldn’t the paper-trail deal have been done without moving the Primary date? Are you saying that the Republicans in the State legislature would not have allowed this unless the date was moved up? I suspect that this would be very unconstitutional…if the State says one system is allowed for one Pasrty but the other party has to use another, or that it will stipulate how votes are counted based on date.
Cool, thanks! And no problem, really. Bringing people together, that’s what I’m here for.
(Wait, what the hell am I saying?)
Good night, all. The best of all possible tomorows to you all.
Switchimals? Manigrass?
yikes
Think Progress has a whole bunch of fact checking up. WHOLE bunch. Did Bush tell the truth even once?
http://thinkprogress.org/
g’nite rond
night RonD
Whenever I hear him pronounce THAT I can’t help but hear “TOURISSSTS”.
He’s prevented THEM from attacking Amerka, too!
He stole that from Orson Welles…War of the Worlds..Bush was hoping for mass hysteria would come back…the terror lights just don’t do it anymore or FISA would be a slam dunk.
I wish I had . . . the looks on the dem’s faces was truly catostraphic.
Didn’t anyone in here see those looks, in the opening ten minutes?
The Dem’s were MORTIFIED! Like they had been caught completely off guard. Again.
And THUMPED.
Thanks, Larue. I hope other folks will take a close look… I’m too tired to do much more actual thinking tonight. Even just pre-emptively nuking all earmarks — which seems like the plain meaning there — seems sure to alienate all of Congress. Big news that you caught.
Tell her big brother says you are informed and right on. Go Edwards.
Politically the endorsement of the Kennedy’s transcends Oprah–maybe not as much as MSM-TV gushed.
Billiary would have been glad to have either of them. In net votes, they don’t help her. If the Clinton twin candidates go South on ST, the logistics of her Super Delegate premonitions go bye-bye. Typical of Clinton to imperiously direct Michigan and Fla. Delegates to be seated for her. EW wasn’t too thrilled with that command.

i was eating dinner so i muted the sound at the beginning of his speechifying. thanks for the transcript, larue, and the catch.
I know, I have one too. Two, actually, but one of them sucks.
goodness suz – i must have seemed so tacky – mea culpa!
[i’d assumed the date was already set, whenever it may be.
i wouldn’t dream of nudging my hostess (or host) to change a groups’ set gathering time to suit my schedule (besides, I’d nudged about the ELAW weekend before the date was set :} ]
and i’m delighted i’d be able to come either of the weekends you mentioned…thanks!
thank Betsy… but I think I will stick to haagen dazs blackberry chip..mmmmm
shit can’t find a picture
Howdy, Tex! Aloha, Ron…
Every TamiFlu prescription makes Donald Rumsfeld richer. Even though he was supposed to divest his Gilead stock while SecDef and making decisions about DoD stockpiling TamiFlu, he never did.
Actually now I’m thinking taking away everybody’s earmarks is good for the FISA fight — it’s certainly NOT going to make either side of the Senate want to play ball much.
Wait, I’ll come in again:
AAAAHHHH!!!! They’re here!!!
*runs away in terror*
It’s like playoff football: Penalties, turnovers and special teams will decide the outcome. *G*
Larue- I watched on CSPAN (via net) and as far as I could tell, cameras focused on the applauding side of the aisle.
not tacky at all kirk, and i was trying to be accomodating. is why the fudge factor on the dates. trying to see what works best for the most…
I LIKE how you think, Ma’am! *G*
i no longer watch fox anything. not much difference between the fictional programing and their ‘news’ coverage
Your mental health..disposition and energy levels will be magnified. More time for good activities. Good on you. They are preaching to their choir. You have the most informed media on the WWW
hey larue, you gonna be able to make it this time?
c’ape @202 — lol ;-)
Unbelievable headline…
“Senator Ted Kennedy Betrays Women by Not Standing for Hillary Clinton for President”
Some thoughts on that here.
Run away! Run away!
(And his liver removed and his bowels unplugged
And his nostrils raped and his bottom burned off
And his pen–)
Really Eli,
I still think about your cloud photographs that are so beautiful. My work with the Museum has given me the opportunity to see so many wonderful historic photographs, and living in Paris doubled the experience. My daughter majored in art history, but actually spent more time taking photographs. And she won a prize at graduation!
Occasionally, they panned over to the other side… When Shrub was railing about the FISA bill, they’d caught the deafening silence on the Dem side…
I think he’s gonna be vetoing a LOT of bills, simply because they won’t get the REPUBLICAN votes without such payoffs.
And doesn’t he realize that those “committee reports” are voted on by the Congress. Yes, some are slipped in during reconciliation, but those “reconciled” bills are sent back to be voted on by both Houses again. The problem isn’t the fact of the VOTES…it’s that people don’t read the complete final bills or won’t support a Bill if there isn’t something for their district within it. And because it’s a closely split Congress the majority party has to pander to a few aisle-crossers on the Republican side more often than not who whimper “Let me play quarterback or you can’t have the ball!”
Time for bed for me, so I’ll say goodnight to all now.
is that near muhrrika?
I was actually going to use that if Hillary and Obama hadn’t shown up for the FISA vote.
Night Ann.
Hijacking progressive with 127,000 hits hijack away go blue America
Cool! An art history prize or a photography prize?
Brand name only kidna buggar, Margot. Hence my warning away of it.
I’m on a shoestring budget myself, i’d rather help others the best possible way first. Then if they have to go the expensive route, do it. But not until nothing ELSE works first.
Here’s how it works in my view. It’s an indicator that Teddy and Carolyn believe that Obama is a legitimate progressive based on his record, despite the attacks that he has faced. It also suggests that they believe the party needs new direction and new blood. In a sense it’s a turning over the reins from the Old Guard.
George is a ‘Merkin, a Muffley ‘Merkin!
Both, Goodnight?
somehow i’m sure the next conflict between citizens and corporatists will provide the opportunity to celebrate Sen WalMart and Sen Present$.
Unfortunately, Margot, the infectious disease literature doesn’t support that.
In actual fact, Tamiflu and the three other approved similar drugs in the U.S. have had nearly negligible clinical impact as to improvement of symptoms.
What they do offer is a side-effect profile that is as high as 30% of flu-like symptoms, often more severe than the flu itself. Almost every physician I know who jumped on Symmetrel when it first hit the market in 1966 have abandoned all of the neuramidase inhibitors because of those side effects–and sales have been disappointing.
What is worse, is that several states under the leadership of an HHS Secretary who is a politician and not a physician, and with the neglect of the CDC, have spent millions on Tamiflu in hopes that it would prevent H5N1.
The literature is replete with if having no efficacy whatsoever against HFN1 and dangerously it causes considerable resistance.
I wouldn’t touch it with a 10 foot pole. Taking symptomatic care of flu symptoms will work out better, and it also costs about $65 a week–a considerable lack of bang for your buck.
‘Night!
Stay in touch, you are such a great photographer. See me at cedmonson@clevelandart.org
Thanks Pete.
I only know my end of it and can’t explain the exact reasons why besides the fact that insurances do not LIKE to pay for TamiFlu at all, half t he time to begin with. Home Treatment first, then if you can’t shake it. Then you go for antibiotics. Only going for the big guns after all else has failed.
I don’t go to the Doc for the flu half the time, much less a cold.
Thanks Ma’am. And others, too. BoyKing went Nukular outta the box it seemed to me. Total offensive, and drove the stake of corporate america thru the dem’s hearts before they knew what was happening.
When folks catch the vid rerun’s, watch the cutaway’s in the first five or ten minutes of the audience dem’s.
How the dust around all this settles remains to be absolved, I guess, but, ‘I got a baaaad feelin about this Ricky!!’ *G*
My fear is BoyKing use’s tonite, and he all but ANNOUNCED his intent, and his final days to further condense Executive Privilage And Power, so that no matter WHO or WHAT party comes to govern, they are reined in by Corporate State Board Of Directors.
N that will be his legacy.
N Bill Clinton, of course, furthered the Executive Powers in HIS time only folks kinda forget that cuz of the blow job.
“Won’t get fooled AGAIN! NO NO!”

Oh thanks Eli – how did I miss Dim Wit’s Mussolini Moment. We were distracted rescuing a mouse from the jaws of death of our cat Frances. Happy ending for the terrified rat thanks to mrbrat’s perserverance. ;~)
As you’re learning first hand every day at work, Insurance companies have imposed a lot of ridiculous hurdles on pts., docs, and pharmacists.
However, in the case of these drugs, which have a high rate of flu mimetic side effects the insurance companies are on the money.
But if you’ve just been to the doc, and you feel like hell, and you’ve gone to the time and trouble and expense to go and you have a prescription they won’t pay for or co-pay, and you don’t have the perspective of how this group of drugs has performed for years you’re understandably pissed off.
It’s always frustrating to give a patient a drug–they’ve paid for it and it’s not cheap, and have side effects come up that are worse than the smptoms–and when they’re flu-like and they have flu–it can be awfully hard to sort them out.

Hey VG, interesting the cable did it different. Media, go figure.
. . . I caught it on network tv. Was switching back thru ABC, NBC and CBS. All were mostly about the same, I thought, but that’s not a formal survey by anymeans, I was also cookin dinner!! lol
Camera’s were pretty good to pan around on all, many angles used. Much more overt reactions I guess, than the version you saw.
I’ll bet youtube and google vids will show you what ya missed at some point. Might be a bit of work to find.
The Dem’s were shellshocked. Early on, too. Oh well, it’s old nooze now, I guess.
FISA and a few elections are ahead, to see if we really are sold out, or if we the people CAN take back some of our country for ourselves.
Here’s Hopin, Hope Springs!! *G*
Make What, Ma’am?
THAT’S some deep congressional insight I don’t read about often . . . thanks! *G*
Do you think BoyKing and his gulag CAN be neutralized in the final final months?
Or has he set the Executive Privilege Bar so taut all other Pretzeldent’s are compelled to follow the corporate schticj laid forth by BoyKing?
Wow, good thinky.
Camelot, passes on, finally, to a possibly worthy party?
And it IS time Camelot passed on to SOMEONE!
Cuz it WAS grand the first time around, in the beginning.
Rest their souls, both of them.
Sometimes the situation is such that EVERYONE (dem and repug) is tainted. In that case the old adage does not work, I suppose one could write someone in but that is not terribly effective.
