Flashback to Dubya's triumphant first State Of The Union. He was so hopeful and positive back then.
I'm sure you all saw this evening's SOTU address, and you all probably have a better idea of the actual state of the union than Bush does, so I won't bother with a recap. However, through judicious application of alcohol, dramamine and my masculine wiles, I was able to obtain the top secret first draft of tonight's address, which is significantly different from the one that pre-empted Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. I will now share with you some excerpts and highlights:
- "The American economy is strong, especially when compared with the Great Depression, but it needs a well-placed firecracker to really set it off. After reading a lot of books, I now believe that we must convert the United States to a 100% jello-based economy by the year 2013. It will take hard work and sacrifice, but I know America is up to the challenge. To lead this vital effort, I am proud to present Bill Cosby as the first African-American to ever serve as Secretary Of Jello. It is a great honor for him and for me - please give us a warm round of applause."
- Bush presents three-point plan to eliminate dependency on foreign oil. Point 1 is to crack down on the sale of steroids and HGH, freeing them up for the creation of "Barry Bonds Switchgrass." Point 2 is that someone told him cold fusion was close to a breakthrough. There is no Point 3.
- Bush warns America that he has seen documentary evidence that Mars has deadly WMD in the form of pods, tripods, and perhaps iPods ("Some say that those were just movies, but there's no proof that Mars does not want to invade America - I will not stand by as danger-related program activities possibly gather"). He announces that Operation: Mars, Bitches! will be accelerated so that we can nuke the Martians before they nuke us. We will also send troops, equipped with windbreakers and snorkels to combat the harsh atmospheric conditions.
- Bush reiterates the importance of enhanced surveillance capabilities to allow adequate enforcement of the underwear-must-be-changed-every-half-hour law introduced in his first SOTU (see video).
- Bush clarifies why we need telecom immunity: "It's just like when you get your shots at the doctor, see. You don't want the telecoms to get sick, do you? You and your children are putting that phone up against your faces every day. You want that phone to be healthy, but some people want your family to catch diseases from it and die horrible painful deaths."
In other words, more of the same.

Eli!
Eli hi!
woohoo
Hiya, Ann! Sorry about that, there was a bit of a schedule change.
Hiya, BSRH!
hi and bye. It’s been a long day.
BTW, anyone else get error messages when posting this eve?
Eli - i would dive but i’m too sore from that forking bellyflop i did about the stfu speech.
Hmm Andy Card or Phil Simms…
good Card is gone now
Can’t stand watching Tweety any more. Gotta tune it out. What happened to Keith?
Hey, Eli doing Late Nite!
Tweety did a decent job on Card. Ol’ Tweety’s a flip flopper. Maybe Olbermann’s ratings are giving him pause.
I, um, sort of accidentally volunteered for it.
Ok, off to bed for ColberT. Thanks for making the spoiled tapioca served up tonight a bit easier on the stomach.
*waving g’nite to all the leaving sleepy pups*
evenin Eli….will just one person other than KO…exclaim that chimp is buttnekkid on the red carpet?
slow comments ’cause we’re still gobsmacked
Andy Card, former Bush administration member, raging pud.
-G
Oh God. Opie Delay on with Tweety. He’s my critter, Adam Putnam, FL-12. On behalf of those of us who fought him…we’re sorry.
No.
This has been another edition of Simple Answers To Simple Questions.
Eeeeeewwwwww, Adam Putnam. Ick.
where’s FL-12?
You mean you weren’t all tuned in to the Underground Cities on the History Channel with us?
Hugs out to Mrs. K8–an iconic pup. We in the Sunshine house know the challenges enduring medical stuff. Take care, warm lady who helped make so many of us feel the heart of the lake and stay.
Impeach the crooks or their will be no justice
another bushco flunky - this one a gurlllllllllll lol
Quite alright! Gave me a chance to read the post and get something to eat before the barrage.
There’s a history channel?
I probably ain’t even gonn a vote tomorrow. I haven’t gotten out to early voting and I need to run an errand at lunch.
justice? justice? in amurrikah? nahhhhhhhhhhhh
Tampa Bay and just east.
I think someone had a serious talk with Tweety!
impeach the crooks or there will be plenty of pardons and retroactive immunity for the cabal…(not you or me of course)
and you are bragging about it? what a shame that you think your vote matters so little that you are willing to not step up to your duty as a citizen. so what if you are busy, make time.
yeah all those emails and phonecalls to daddy GE lol
ya think?,mebbe the shrink adjusted his meds
Missed the SOTU myself, had a friend over for dinner so that came before the Chimpoooo. Sounds as if it went swimmingly! All the right notes sounded, the American people are confident once again, ready to offer more of their sons and daughters to the total effort of American expansionism around the world. I can sleep well tonight.
Now that I think of it, I think they told him journalists are supposed to report the news, not become the news! Pundits are supposed to discuss elections, not influence some of them adversely!
Shorter Kathleen Sebelius :
Stop being an obstructionist dick.
NOW they bring on rachel??? WTF???
damn near midnight!
Yup. Please go vote for Edwards, even if it just helps push the agenda his way.
LOL. That comment is much more effective than her speech!
Did anyone notice that when MSNBC showed the three way shot of Dick, Nancy, and Dubya, the chairs and icon formed a heart? ew.
way to go rachel
hahahahahahahaha

Hey all, I just uploaded my video of “The Kiss”. I was so shocked by it that I missed most of the speech because I was editing this.

Polling on Bush’s legacy.
He’s doing great.
Vote now.
-G
niceeeee
I’m in FL-24. Tom Feeney. Douchebag.
Brilliant!
Excellent!
Hi folks….
Bush’s SOTU = Old Bag of Tricks Surging into Oblivion
I think there’s a global reaction it’s time to turn the page…
She did her hair different! Today she has bangs!
Went back and rated it. Forgot the first time!
Bob, it looks like it’s time to retrofit the float with a pair of glasses.
-G
Very nice, CTBob! Loved the narrative. I kinda think you might be in Shays’ district. Correct?
dugg your post, Eli
Not bragging. Just matter of fact. i hardly ever voted in primaries in NJ, it was so late and the race was over by then. Same thing now. No delegates. it’s no election at all really.
Tweety did a decent job on Card. Ol’ Tweety’s a flip flopper.
What - did Matthews say something? I musta missed it.
I still can’t believe, this soon after The State of The Onion, that the pundits have ignored it, pretty much in its entirety, and moved on to tomorrow’s politics. I mean, a
brand new sixteen wordsthe same old sixteen words, with one “n” substituted - Iraq becomes Iran… and no one cares, no one is paying any attention, no one even bothers to pretend that there’s any credibility there. The polls have said, for fucking forever, that the prez was/is irrelevant - but tonight is the first time that I’ve seen it so starkly, unblinkingly, reinforced, if not magnified, in the post SOTU coverage.
Finally, finally, thank the Whoever-It Is-Upstairs, George W. Bush, the 43rd president of the United States of America, has realized the utter lack of attention, the total lack of respect, the full recognition that he is everything that this country no longer wants, needs, or cares about - that he has so fully, completely, and without deviation, earned.
Now I’m all weepy.
Maybe you can do another one with the three of them, set to Bizarre Love Triangle.
I’m right next door, but since I’m in a safe Dem district (Rosa DeLauro), I can spend all my efforts on bringing on Shaysie’s retirement.
It’s gonna be a FUN year!
if you don’t vote, you have no right to bitch about the results. tsk tsk
Waving at you. *g*
Cool, thanks!
So, did Shays get tongue?
CTBob- k, thanks for info. But you really must be right next door! Only one CT rep left to bring down!
I already know the result. For Clinton= 0 delegates; for BO = 0 delegates; For Edwards = 0 delegates. What the hell kinda election is that? What else? Mayor. Basically unopposed. And a constitutional amnedment. It depends if I think it’s worth it to go vote no on that.
wow, check out the sitemeter
back atcha ecahn.. lovely evening we had ;o}
117,552 individual hits today
I bet RGB is glad that the site was behaving its self today…..
Of course. Remember, it’s a small state. Short Ride says so!
That is amazing - mods must have been very busy. Thanks to all of them.
Gotta run. wanted to say to the late night pups we all deserve a pat on the back for our work on that (first) cloture vote today. I really believe that they know we’re there and we’re politically active (except for me not voting in a beauty contest).
*waving to eCAHN and juslin* I’ll make it up there to one of the NYC meet ups one of these days!
The entire FDL crew was working hard to keep it smooth for ya’ll.
Yep. Glad you were able to come.
I’ve been busy with other stuff since Friday night, so first time I’ve hooked back up.
Wait, there are NYC FDL meetups? I get up to NYC every once in a while.
And, CTBob- my take is that Jim Himes will beat Shays handily. What’s your sense from CT?
We’ll get you in “the city” eventually.
and looking forward to another time
Gotta agree with Suzanne. The vote will be important for the momentum it gives the winner…and I think Nelson was right when he said the FL delegation will eventually be seated.
Email me at xx@xx.com & I’ll add you to the list. I also notify FDLers in OT comments several times in advance.
Eli, eCAHN can hook you up…
Eli, let me know when you have her e-addy and i’ll x it out.
Did everyone behave properly?
Got it.
Okay, they just brought up Gore. I’ve been thinking, as a Gore fan (bigtime), I realize now why Gore decided not to run. He’s right. The Clintons would have trashed him royally. They would have been as bad with Gore as they have been with Obama. Maybe worse, if that’s possible. Not only does the Big Dog not like to lose, he’s losing his chance of living in the WH again. He’ll do anything to get back there. So far he’s trashed his relationship with the entire black race (for the most part) and seriously downgraded his legacy in pursuit of going back to the WH. It’s not pretty! I hope he stops while he’s still got anything left, because, Lord help me, I like him.
You are such a dilligent & responsible mod. Many thanks.
edited out :)
Let your imagination be your guide.
Wait. Did Fucktard say anything about AIDS? Some clown on Fox the other night said he would ’cause it was important to him. Right.
OMG, McCain and Clinton. The two losers, as planned.
Say, here comes Michael Bloomberg to the rescue.
aw shucks, its not just me. there is a whole squad of folks - i’m just the front man.
He extended the Africa program. What I want to know is what the payouts have been on the original $15 billion in 3 years.
I have to vote in my own place tomorrow? I never did that. I always voted early.
And a very talented “front” you are.
I think most of ‘em are gone now - my cursor’s moving again.
My #57 took about ten minutes - type, wait for it to show up, edit…
(note to self - stfu - busy night - get over it)
(second note to self - remember to thank mods)
(third note - writing more than one note-to-self may indicate a problem). heh.
Gotta run. Voting tomorrow? Doubtful.
ecahn, iirc, i read it is actually a cut just using words that did not make it seem like a cut. am trying to remember where i read it, perhaps it was at the group news blog or americablog?
As long as your self doesn’t start writing notes back.
Hear hear. Or is it “here here”? Never have been sure about that. Anyway — Suz, you rock.
Damn, Rachel is good!
You would almost think that Dubya’s speechwriters have been trolling the progressive blogs for themes that might work “rule of law”, “cutting the deficit”, “withdrawing troops from Iraq”, all the things that he hasn’t done and his policies have systematically destroyed. The fact that he has to methodically lie about these things shows just how desperate he actually is.
thats MY girl - she can stop all that bullshit repugs spin
As long as your self doesn’t start writing notes back.
Oh, but yeah, I talk to myself - and I answer… I figure that as long as an argument doesn’t break out - I’m fine.
I read somewhere that it was an extension, billed as an increase. I get really tired trying to keep track of W’s lies.
Think Progress debunked it too… Watching Shrub while sick it not a good thing… ;-)
Depends on how much cash the Republicans dump into Shays’s campaign. So far, we’re looking good. Jim’s got a solid chance of knocking off a 10-term incumbent. But it’s gonna be a battle, no doubt about it.
Is our SOTUs repeatin’ yet?
That speech was so mostly desultry and otherwise laugable or pathetic and phoned-in I couldn’t even work up much outrage. I feared my outrage after six and a quarter years*, and tend to avoid exposure to the actual sounds and sights of this administration and read what these guys say instead. Getting on in years, and… gotta watch the blood pressure. But I kinda listened and just as he would start an outrage inducing moment, he went off on something else, or it got silly or stupifying.
Still wants to privatize social security, huh? Is he gonne offer that great invest at 2% and pay 3% for the honor deal? I do hope so. I think the most reasonable part of the speech was the manimal warnings. Gotta be someting going on we don’t know about for him to keep repeating such dumb sounding stuff.
Actually, the disease program stuff sounded good, if you haven’t been paying attention to what his administration has actually done (hand out 6 bucks with one hand, take back 7 with another, and jiggle some obscure regulations to kill some folks for domestic political pandering purposes). So if you don’t mind that little inconsistency, the disease stuff sounded OK.
* dumb-ass me gave him half a chance for almost a year. Why… I dunno…
BTW, a grand day among the blogs I should acknowledge, for the calls to senators and a stalling of the FISA with immunity. That IS an accomplishment, and FDL, Greenwald (nice email Jane), and every other blog that was a part of motivating people to call are to be lauded with joy and verve!! *G*
I haven’t seen the final vote yet, but I’d sure like to know who swung who and why.
I fear it’s a short term win, but Hope springs eternal in her new ballet slippers . . . *G*
What I’m really concerned about is that I don’t see anyone addressing the following. I’ve posted this concern else where:
Tonight, our republic was fully sold out.
Welcome to the new United Corporate States Of America.
In his first five minutes, BoyKing signed the papers, inked the deal, and sealed it with his announcement he would issue executive orders to ensure the handover proceeds smoothly.
The Dem’s were shocked, stunned, like deer in headlights, hit with a brick on the head while Pelosi and Shooter gleamed their glomming glow of total and ultimate power. All in the first five or ten minutes. Game over. The rest was salt in the wound. The look on the dem’s faces was incredibly sad for me to see. Like they finally get it, they are a target and the bullet is flown, and they KNOW it’s for them.
The House, and The Senate have been nullified as forms of government.
The Executive Branch functions as a CEO, and answers to The Board Of Directors.
Obama, or any Prez, even HRC, will answer to The Board, from here on in. And so now the rich will fight amongst themselves to coalecese their power even further.
And the military forces sit on the Board, and serve to protect the interests Of The Board, not We The People.
And no one is talking about it. No one. That I can find.
I’ve read a lot of Chimpy Derision N Snark that’s so rightously deserving, but, no acknowledgement that BoyKing lowered the boom, and did it with a BANG of a headwhacking. On us all. Which is how I saw it. The dem’s faces and eyes on the cutaways said it all.
“He extended the Africa program. What I want to know is what the payouts have been on the original $15 billion in 3 years.”
Loads of cash to the
faith-healers…I mean faith-based abstinence programs that argue that condoms don’t help stop the spread of the disease…zilch to any group that also offers family-planning information.Yes, I was thinking earlier that the speech was a bit unusual- not in presentation, not in the lying, but in the use of progressive memes as buzz.
just wait til the dems are in the WH….lets see how bipartisan repugs will be………..hmmmmmm dont think so
And she can talk faster, too!
Great photo of Obama being gracious with Hillary tonight at the SOTU
hope you are feeling better ct. next year, get your flu shot, dood!
I don’t know the answer to that, but this is what I found:

I started it, but it was just too horrible. Dick s
