They usually vote party, not country, so I hold little hope that they will do the constitutionally correct thing today. Interesting to note that after asking my purposely-neutral first question (What is Sen. Nelson’s thinking on the vote this afternoon for cloture?), she started to recite that he voted for immunity because the telecoms were providing a service to the country…then paused, asked if I could hold a moment. Upon coming back, she asked if I was representing an organization (I said no), at which point she let me go on. I was clear in how I thought Sen. Nelson should vote and why the telecoms (and administration) should not get immunity and she thanked me for my comments. Might just be me, but her closing seemed genuinely thankful and not the perfunctory send off I usually get (you would be safe in assuming I call Sen. Mitt used to run a hedgefund they don’t report profits like normal companies do so how do we know that Mitt’s old fund did not buy a bunch of subprime loans unless he lets an independent accounting firm look at his books?<br /> Mitt’s business expertise for all I know could be an Enron style illusion. Mitt can’t run as a business success if we can’t verify it independently.<br /> Pat Buchanan might invest in companies that don’t report their investments regularly but America shouldn’t.
