HARRY REID: I’ve never seen anything quite so cynical and counter-productive as what the Republicans are doing with the FISA bill, unless it’s my own manipulation of Senate procedure to kill the Senate Judiciary bill (without retroactive immunity) that I claimed somewhat unconvincingly to support.

What can I say? I trusted the Republicans, and now I’m forced to oppose the same bill I was lining up to support last week. Oh well, one way or another, we’ll give George Bush the retroactive immunity for Dick Cheney and the telecoms that he has demanded.

Under my leadership we’re now in the same position we were last August, when the Republicans forced us to pass a bad bill because they threatened to scream Democrats were "soft on terror." The PAA is set to sunset on February 1st, and we’ll undoubtedly give them everything they want rather than that — oh the horror.

What can you say, I kicked the exact same football I did last August. And before the week is out, I’ll use senate procedure to screw Chris Dodd over, something I’d never do to a Republican.

The President says he wants to work in a bipartisan fashion. Heh.

(Note: Durbin is reportedly going to support the Dodd filibuster.)

DINO Ben Nelson voted with the Republicans for cloture, as did Mark Pryor and Mary Landrieu. Cloture fails.
