I just can’t help but chuckle every time I think about Jon Stewart’s interview with “the author” of this book. The look on Jon’s face was priceless. Not the best interview I’ve seen him do, but pretty painful and subtly expressive.
I only regret that Jon Stewart edited out portions of Pantload’s vain attempt to promote his spew on TDS…!
Assuming for the moment, Cheney actually steps down next year.. I suspect the Wingnut Welfare budgets will dramatically shrink and the whining about unemployment will be quite shrill for a while.

I read somewhere that the entire interview was 17 minutes and it got cut down to about six for the version they put on the show - made it choppy and non-linear, but I got the impressions that by the end, Jon Stewart was pretty much calling the guy an incredible fucking moron…

Don’t know who that favors. Hard to tell. But you take it easy Rudy. There aren’t that many retired NYPD down here.

Look,my unsolicited opinion? Edwards seems to have settled in where he’ll go about as high as he did last night. I had hoped for better but aren’t really surprsied or disappointed. We’ll probably hear more about how he has a moral duty to get out. But I’m sick of hearing how he won SC last time. it has a large # of black voters and he wasan’t running against anybody who could energize them like BO. Keep goin’ John!

I was really angry and perplexed about McGreevy stepping down for being (outed) gay. I did not understand why he had to step down as governor of NJ. Could he not perform his gubernatorial duties once he was out of the closet? It seemed ludicrous. Why could he (why did he) not complete his term?

Hillary and Edwards got about 1/3 of the white vote each. Obama got 25% of the White Vote.
Someone on the SC Primary:Live branch made the comment “How can a guy who can’t win the white vote get elected President?” I pointed out that NONE of the three “won the White vote”, and that it was insulting to the supporters of Clinton and Edwards to assume that their support hinged on Obama’s melanin levels.
I also pointed out that Obama “won” women, men, all age groups below 60 years, etc. So one could easily say “How can someone who can’t win anyone but people over 60 years old win the General Election?”
It’s important to realize that people will shift allegiences when other candidates drop out. Not all those whites will shift to Hillary if Edwards drops out; not all of Hillary’s would go to Edwards. There is a deep set implicit racism in thinking this way.
And in the General Election the candidates will be much more broadly distinguishable on policy grounds than in the Democratic primary. People will have a lot more to compare and contrast than subtletiues in their health care plans. It’ll be whether the candidate even believes in reaching out to the poor and uninsured vs. one who believes that letting the “silent hand” of laissez-faire capitalism (and Corporate bail-outism) is sufficient.

Too many analysts are focusing on percentage numbers instead of absolutes. Even if you only count the white votes for Obama, that is enough votes to put him in third place in Republican primary, ahead of Romney and Thompson.
The Dems are pulling people to the polls in droves. Percentages are only part of the picture.

He did sign into law domestic partnership benefits for state employees so he wasn’t hypocritical.
As you know BFL we expect our politicians in NJ to be crooked. There is no other way for them to get elected, as sad as that is. When you risk people’s lives though it has a tendency to piss people off.
I haven’t seen any numbers broken down by race and gender together.
But here is CNN’s exit poll numbers for the Non-Black vote.
Non-Black 18-29 (5%) Clinton 27% Edwards 21% Obama 52%
Non-Black 30-44 (9%) Clinton 34% Edwards 41% Obama 25%
Non-Black 45-59 (15%) Clinton 37% Edwards 40% Obama 23%
Non-Black 60+ (16%) Clinton 42% Edwards 42% Obama 15%
Edwards got about 37% of the White vote, Clinton 33% and Obama about 25%.
As I have pointed out to those who may want to suggest that this means that Edwards is somehow going to pick up all of Clinton’s white supporters in a general election, and Obama WOULD NOT, there is an implicit racism there that you need to recognize. The ONLY way that would work is if Edwards and Clinton’s supporters ONLY voted for their candidates and AGAINST Obama on racial grounds. Not policy, not experience, not the fact that Edwards was a “Native Son”…none of that.
That’s rather insulting to the Edwards and Clinton voters, quite frankly.
It’s as silly a conclusion as saying that because Edwards won alnmost no black votes in SC in this primary that the black community would NOT VOTE for him…and rush off to support John McCain or Mitt Romney, I assume ;-)
I think that the similarity between these three candidates is a lot closer than some might think, and that come November the chasm between any Democratic candidate and the Republican opponent will be looming.
