What, Mike Brown was unavailable?
The Department of State is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Paul Wolfowitz as the Chairman of the Secretary of State’s International Security Advisory Board.
It must be so comforting to know that no matter how spectacularly you fail, the soft warm wingnut welfare teat is always there for you.

Blue Texan!
BT!
hahahahaha this is so hysterical
Yo.
Well well, Ann…*g*
Absolutely unbelievable. Good morning BT.
Hey, Biodun, where ya been. Haven’t seen anything from you since yesterday morn. Although, threads were moving so fast yesterday, I missed a lot!
Somewhere in Texas, former AGAG is waiting for the phone to ring . . .
I heard that on NPR’s Morning Edition this morning…Some rats get off a sinking ship, and some rats get on it.
But… but…. the one Green concept the Repugs have down pat is recycling…. it just is recycling their own from position to position or administration to administration.
And I suppose the girlfriend got a cubicle and a tidy stipend.
What a way to start my day.
This guy could fuck up a cast iron anvil with a rubber mallet.
Ann in AZ @ 7:
I basically dipped into the live FISA threads to say hello, and then lurked. I didn’t feel like watching C-Span 2 yesterday.
:~)
This definitely calls for twolf’s shoulda-been-patented emotipuke
:0====|
Ann in AZ @ 7:
Jane might put up a new me-post in a coupla days, maybe today, maybe Monday…
i like this pic better
http://www.bradblog.com/Images…..Licker.jpg
How else could it be for a Party and movement headed by George W. Bush? He’s never suffered any consequences for failing spectacularly.
There’s no success like failure,
and Wolfowitz is no success at all.
whyo whyo whyo …is is the same dumb cast of characterzzzzzzzzzzzzzz????
or this…
Remember that Rezko guy? The one that is connected to Obama? Well, what do you know. It turns out Hillary is a fraud. She’s met him too after denying she ever met him or knows who he is.
http://thepage.time.com/2008/0…..-shows-14/
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…i just lost my brekky
y, o y
From the Mary Poppins perspective, maybe it indicates that Bush does believe in extending unemployment compensation, at least under some conditions. At any rate, I’m glad they got him off the streets. The other poor folks forced to live under bridges were complaining about him licking his comb.
Thanks for that.
hahahahahahahaa
Wolfowitz goes to State to help out Condi…my my…International Security Advisory Board… WTF is that?
see, I knew better than to click on that link — and yours too!
It seems Romney may be pulling a GW with an ear piece at the debate last night. Guess he needs coaching with his answers.
“In tonight’s MSNBC Florida debates, when Romney is asked a question about Ronald Reagan – “will you do for social security what Ronald Reagan did in 1983″- you can hear a voice whisper “raised taxes” and then Romney says “I’m not going to raise taxes, what I’m going to do …”
http://stewart-rhodes.blogspot…..uppet.html
The GOP debate is on C-Span now, maybe that part hasn’t played yet.
Somewhere on the campaign trail, Giuliani is picking up his phone . . .
Rudy: “Hello, Mr. Vice President. I just read about Wolfowitz’ return to govt service. How’d you like to keep your VP job in a Giuliani adminsitration?”
Cheney: “That’s mighty nice of you, Rudy. Funny you should call, though. Huckabee, Romney, and even McCain called earlier, with just the same offer. Why don’t we all just agree to anoint me as the VP, and I’ll let you guys fight it out to see who gets to sit in the Oval Office?”
if anybody wants to fax this …i found our sullied constitution
http://odur.let.rug.nl/~usa/images/const.jpg
Let’s not forget, this is not just a guy who arranged a State Department job for his girlfriend that paid more than the Secretary of State, it’s a guy who pushed through a high-level security clearance without proper investigation for that girlfriend who worked for a foreign government. I mean, geez, you feel like you’re watching a spy movie and he’s the dupe the main character has to explain things to.
It’s just more evidence that for these clowns, the obsession with secrecy has nothing to do with security; they’re constantly undermining real national security while they use secrecy to cover their crimes.
hahahahahaha
you smart cookie
Hillary was surprised?
can we finally call them a cabal?
Well, if you made a comment, or blinked for that matter, there was a new thread. Couldn’t keep up worth a damn.
Have you already protested to Congress? I do faxes so I can leave a permanent record of exactly what I said and what I think. Also, if there’s a filibuster, and they have enough faxes, they can read them off one by one on the floor of the Senate. That would be way cool. Imagine that, ordinary citizen’s opinions on the floor of the Senate! I have to do another one for the next group of Senators that need worked on from EW’s post last night. I believe my next one will be fax #7 or #8 on the subject of warrantless wiretaps and immunity for telecoms.
does this appointment need a confimation?

International Security Advisory Board
I’m sure he’ll do well.
I think not because it’s an advisory role.
Wolfie did more than anyone else to instigate a pre-emptive war based on a pack of lies…and now he’s going to be advising Condi on international security. I guess it will give him a platform to instigate an attack on Iran. Another demonstration of the power and influence of the NeoCons.
At this stage it’s obvious that the Administration doesn’t dive a s**t what the American people think.
Morning all-
It’s strange how they decide who gets the wingnut welfare, isn’t it? Wolfowitz? Sure. But Katherine Harris steals an election for them, and is scorned for her efforts. Fawn Hall, Ollie North’s former secretary-the one who continued shredding documents even after North was fired-winds up a widowed crack addict.
I would like to see the criteria they use for wingnut-welfare eligibility.
They seem to have an issue with women.
I’ve got in on, but whyo why am I watching it? I’ll read the debate threads from last night to get the gist.
OT..Donna Edwards debates Al Wynn today at noon..WAMU live stream
here
Wolfie’s new role is far more nefarious than just clean up. His role here is to address issues of arms proliferation (remember Plame). In this position he will be able to show (invent) evidence that Iran has nuclear capability, thus to further the Bush/neocon/AI*EC agenda of sending our military into Iran.
Cool!
Except Condi, who they love more than anyone else. Weird.
Oh fu*k
hint hint wink,wink…not a woman………. fembot
I shudder to think, literally! Certainly doesn’t make me feel secure.
this will be the LONGEST year of our lives…imo
at least we have our lives, unlike the hundreds of thousands that have perished — may they rest in peace somehow.
and the beat goes on…and we cant turn the supertanker around …fast enuf
OT -related to yesterday. I don’t see we will have enough new Dem votes to pull this out, so 2 questions: 1) why aren’t we also going after blue state Repubs-Collins, Sununu for example; 2) does this mean that if we do not get the votes that a Dodd (and others) filibuster is off the table?
she’s good with a strapon?
really, they are all closet queens, I would not doubt this at all
Great rip, BlueTex! and you know what frosts my ass? I’m thinkin’ that NONE of the “big three” will jump on this with both feet.
We have this architect of the clusterfuck with his fingerprints all OVER it, and bloody fingerprints they are, and he’s not even shuffled off to hind tit; he goes to the head of the line.
and seemingly none of the democratic candidates wants to make it a campaign issue.
At this point, it can’t be that they’re saving their ammo; I think they’re afraid to start tugging on the bottom card, because they know that the whole bullshit conservative construct will collapse, and it looks like they’re almost as frightened by that as are the republicans.
We’ll see. I think that things are going to get out of control and start happening with their own momentum, very quickly.
Why not? What’s the kharmic bartab for Iraq, and a million-odd dead, with no end in sight?
Ann in AZ @ 37:
Yes I have. I do faxes too. Just got an email fom Jane. That new post will be up today soemtime before 2 PM CT. Would be nice if you were there for moral support…*g*
that was what Mark Crispin Miller was writing…paranoids…but chimp seems too vacuous to even be paranoid imo
Someday, someday, Wolfie and comrades will find a very different gig.
Close your eyes, channel Otis Redding, and sing with me:
Sittin’ in the dock at the Hague
Bound by chains, both hand and leg
Yeah, sittin’ in the dock at the Hague
Standin’ trial
Bilbo @ 40:
Thanks!
oh bravo
OfT: I thought it was just me last night hearing things – evidently somebody else heard it too. Somebody whispered an answer to Romney last night before he gave his “real” answer:
http://rawstory.com/news/2007/….._0125.html
I remember this guy…in my other life. One of the first academic critics of the evils of MSM…
Or other Rethugs, like, what was Hagel’s position on this. I thought there were other Rethugs who also recognize the wrongness of retroactive immunity. Also, if they vote for closure, doesn’t that preclude a filibuster? If they don’t vote for closure, aren’t they trying to extend until this President is out of office? I think they know there may be a permanent impasse here.
so he is a cheat too!
I am sure that was just a computer glitch in the sound chip of the MittBot 2008.
-G
I’ll plan on it.
Sunshine already linked up to the clip of the “raise taxes” whispered to Romney during the debate. Unbelievable really. Shows what happened when one candidate tries it and gets away with. The press didn’t go after Bush when he did it, and so now it’s part of the Republican guidebook on how to run a sleazy campaign.
Good point on Hagel. On the other, I guess it is not all that clear for many of us (maybe later today Christy, EW or someone could provide an overview of what may happen Monday.
Snowbird, there are a LOT of worms in Hillary’s apple, for the republicans to point to. :o)
Wolfie an advisor on arms control? This is simply beyond satire.
Hillary’s and Bill’s apples.
Not only does it portray the GOP’ers as sleazy campaigners. I think the more important message to get out there is that Romney is slamming Reagan as a liberal who raised taxes to fix social security. To me that is like eating your own. Wow. Romney has a chance to compliment Reagan for building a Bi-partisan coalition to fix social security and Romney slams him for Raising Taxes. Ouch.
I’m pretty sure Hagel is not running for re-election so he has nothing to lose by voting his conscience, and I think we know he has a conscience so I’m sending him a fax, too. If anybody can think of any other Senators who might be able to be convinced, please let us know. This is one I’d sure like to win!

I would hope everyone is listening to the senate hearing on FISA the repugs are digging deep into the manure pile.
It is now so plain to see this is not about anything, other then cover bushes behind.
Hell no! If he’s too cheap to buy new ones, he can darn his own damn socks.

zippin’ by, but gotta say, this nails it. Can’t be said often enough. Especially the undermining real national security part.
He won’t need socks where he’s going.
(sorry for missing article)
and I dont really want to hear about them again….but doesnt this remind you of the Bush Abramoff picture. Hillary should know better?
Since no one else seems to have asked, I guess the terrible duty falls to me:
Is Wolfowitz’s multi-talented girlfriend back on the payroll?
And for how much? :o) :o) :o)
between Condi not knowing her ass from a hole in the ground and Wolfie being a greedy little fuck, someone has got their finger in pie and someone has their finger in their ass.
Is he going around the world?
Please see my post at #30.
This reeks of future spin. Thats what Wolfie is for.

Walter Shapiro in Salon today:
Yes. Cool, thanks.
Arrghhh!!
Not sure I’m gonna be able to vote for any Dem as Prez. This kind of shit is making it really difficult:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/200…..pr/clinton
Hillary is now saying she has to defend herself?!?! Hil&Bill have kept on spreading lies and attacking since Iowa, while Obama’s been defending himself and not playing the same game, for the most part. I hope Obama doesn’t take the bait too much, but in typical Clinton fashion, they’ll claim whatever the hell they want anyway, and BigMedia will facilitate their lies. Change Candidate?!!? Underdog candidate?!?! Now she’s the one being attacked!?!? Please fellow Dems…we must demand better from our candidates!
Again, Walter Shapiro:
(Same link as my 106.)
There’s got to be a term for this syndrome: felonious, incompetent crooked goopers get caught with their hand in the cookie jar and whathave you, and then turn up in someone’s cabinet like a bad apple. I can’t help but be reminded that recently the ex-governor of CT in handcuffs, Rowland, got a job as the Waterbury’s economic development czar. Why? Because he’s sooo good with those contractors? Via Hartford Courant. When HoJoe gets disgraced as he should be, I am beginning to doubt he won’t have a 6-figure salary at the very least.
WTF? Peggy Noonan says that “George W. Bush destroyed the Republican Party”. Are pigs flying somewhere?
Does Mr. Lick-Spittle-Hair still have a girlfriend?
Umm, the old guard is getting cranky? Noone’s going to their cocktail parties anymore? Just a guess.
Snowbird@42: “Hillary should know better…”
I’ll say! But then, when you’re ripping your rival for his relationship with Rezko and there are shots of you schmoozing with the guy, it’s just one more little instance of how politically “savvy” she and her staff are.
But then, there are a TON of things Hillary should have known better than to do…
Most notably, taking repeated shits on the progressive wing of the democratic party as Iraq turned into the chaos-theory petrie dish that we warned them about. It’s heating up again, as the “surge” hits the wall of reality there, and we all know that what’s going on there now is just bush’s frantic stopgap to try to keep the lid on long enough for him to bail and dump the shitmire in the dems laps. I don’t think he can do it. In fact, I’m pretty damn sure he can’t string it out long enough to do that.
And when the denouement really kicks in, do we want a candidate who supported the misery, until last year’s mid-terms, and who shares a deep interest with bushCo in seeing that lid KEPT on, because if it comes off in the next few months, it will ruin whatever chance she has to be the nominee, and then, it will ruin whatever chance she has to be the president.?
Oh. It’ll ruin the democratic party and the country, too.
In a word, yes.
eCAHN, I’m sure you’ve seen all emptywheel’s done on this case

Did anyone get this in the mail? Sorry for the length. I was hoping for something louder from Edwards than an email to supporters.
This case is not Siegelman, which Scott Horton has also done yeoman’s work on, but Fieger. He is a private trial lawyer in the Detroit area who was prosecuted because he raises money for John Edwards. I haven’t seen anyone else besides Horton cover this.
The same one? After he accused her of leading him astray or something like that? Why do bad apples always get the girl and the six figure salary even when they pick their toes?
eCAHN. Got your email. May the goddess conspire.
THe NYT (which endorsed Hillary today) also is running this story. The same paper that has recently hired KKKristol, and that pays Gordon to press Iran war, seems to be going all out to support Clinton. I for one think that Bill will backfire big time (recalling to many exactly why they disliked him before (and now he is even worse).
Yesiree.
Geoffrey Fieger wiki. He was Jack Kevorkian’s lawyer as well.
AFAIK, the same one. I didn’t know about the accusation part. I really don’t give a f*ck about Wolfowitz’s private life…
I was the campus campaign manager for Jerry Brown in 92 at my school. It was the first election I could vote in and became very disillusioned with bigtime politics through that primary season. We were being told by the Ron Brown led DNC to just pack it up and stop annoying the anointed one, Bill Clinton. Man, wish I would’ve saved some the letters and recorded some conversations.
It was becoming clear to me that BigMoney interests had taken over the Party. This was before I was aware of the DLC, but now I know that’s what was driving it. Bill Clinton was their first “project” and it had already been started when Clinton blew his horn on Johnny Carson in 1988. No one was going to get in their way.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6504289/
I couldn’t understand why they wouldn’t want to just let the voters decide who was the best Dem for the General, and support whoever was picked by the voters. It’s also when I first started thinking that the BigMoney takeover the Dem Party was a purposeful attempt to destroy DemocratIC ideals from within tomake sure the 50s and 50 activism never happened again. The actions of Bill Clinton through the 1990s and how our Dem “leaders” are behaving today (many of the same names throughout) have proven this theory for me.
That’s why Blue America is so exciting. More and Better!
Well, that explains a lot. & thanks for link. Didn’t think of wiki, as I didn’t think Feiger was prominent enuf.
Finally, Shapiro on the Big Dawg:

Flashback: Wolfowitz’s girlfriend/World Bank Problem via Salon. For all we know she may get a new job at the State dept. That is, if they’re still “on.”
Here’s the link:
http://online.wsj.com/article/declarations.html
Very interesting. I sent the link to Scott Horton. There’s a note at the top of the wiki which sez it’s in dispute. I suggested Scott might want to contribute.
Man, I’m likin Walter Shapiro’s writing!
Or perhaps (and this is my own guess), Bill Clinton is out of practice and out of his era
Damn right. When you see the dramatic increase in Obama’s numbers in the last couple of months, while Hillary’s stay the same or drop rapidly, it really suggests a new era is upon us. The old tricks aren’t working like they used for the Clintons!
The question is if there’s enough time though. The Clinton’s had so many built-in advantages, and the BigMedia is still operating in the old ways, so Obama/Edwards (doesn’t that sound nice?) might not have enough time to overcome such a lopsided starting place.
Hmm. Joe Conason.Contrary to what many readers think, I am not endorsing Clinton or Obama for president — and have spared neither candidate my criticism. Also via Salon.
Right on! Support Edwards.
Mui1@113; thassit…
Probably, the main reason that Wolfowitz got the job, is that the gangplank of the Titanic is slippery with blood and bullshit; Especially if you’re boarding. *G*
Then, you need sharp little rodent-claws.
Boy I hope you are right. Zogby pollsters also seem to be working to make the Billary thing happen in the timing of polls and the pushing of particular figures.
Agree with you here. I meant keeping up with his private life after all that…
The Big Dawg at sea in the age of YouTube and blogs…
Mui@119; good post.
They’re all playing it way too cozy to suit me. It’s really starting to make me nervous. If it keeps up, I think it’s fair to say that the fix will be in.
We all know that we have a hell of an opportunity to run these people back under the bridge for a generation, if the leading democratic candidates start shaving points like the most corrupt NBA team that ever existed, then I want to know about the cost of living in Costa Rica.

Dave Weldon (R-FL) retiring. 25th one.
http://thinkprogress.org/2008/…..-retiring/
Did Lamar Alexander just say that “as everyone knows, it takes 60 votes to get anything done in the Senate,” then go on to talk about how they need to reach across the aisle to get that kind of support?
This has to be one of the most dishonest speeches ever given in the the Senate, and that’s saying something. Every other word out of his mouth is “bipartisan.”
Ah but I can envision Wolfowitz’s entourage following him to the state dept. Wild imagination. I know.
Holy Neocon! It lives? Maybe there is some magic regenerative power in that Medal of Honor for Failure?
Or you really DO need a wooden stake?
This certainly looks bad for Iran, but then Condi could use the help with all those 3rd world countries that might turn into “mushroom clouds” without WMD’s.
Gods and Goddesses help us!
Alexander: If the Republicans dig in their heels, that’s not “bipartisan bickering,” that’s just honest debate, that’s what they’re in the Senate for.
And the wonderful Bond/Rockefeller bill that passed, the only one that the Republicans didn’t filibuster, is a fine example of bipartisanship to help the telecoms who helped to protect us after 9/11. If only the Democrats would do this all the time, the public wouldn’t hate them so much.
Did you see the Zogby interview on the Daily Show. Quite disturbing how much of a simpleton he seemed. Stewart asked at the end if he thought polls actually influenced the outcome of elections, and Zogby just giggled and said, “I don’t know.” And giggled some more. Strange…
http://www.thedailyshow.com/vi…..john-zogby
Gee, a dishonest Republican Senator. Now whoever could believe such a thing? /s
It’s time for Alexander to retire. Unfortuantely, he wants to become Chancellor at Vanderbilt I believe. Woe unto the students if he does so.
tanbark…
I couldn’t agree more. Verily; well said!
However; whether or not this is sipping the ‘defeatist’ wine (whine) that seems to be creeping over and out the ‘Progressive Community’,
Our future is Hillary.
Our fate is Hillary.
Both, with all their ‘awe’ful implications, ‘win’ or ‘lose’.
Our job, our task, our ‘calling’ henceforth, is ‘to be gracious’.
To behave graciously, in the feat and in defeat.
(Alas, to what unknown and unknowable extent time alone shall reveal)
But, in the meantime, let us practice eqaunimity. We’ll probably have need of it (grinning, solemnly, yet in appreciation, regarding your grasp of the patently absurd).
.
A friend of mine worked with Wolfowitz in the mid-70s and said at the time: “Watch out for this guy Wolfowitz; he’s very intelligent and very very crazy.”
It’s what they poo. At least cats get it in the box.
JDW/ Thankee kindly…I think. :o)
But, WADR, I disagree that Hillary is our future.
I think she’s our past, as is Bill, and shortly, as is goatboy and his petroturds. She has been way more of the problem, that she is the solution.
She has not risked one quark’s worth of her political butt, on our behalf. So far from it, she has been, and to some extent, still is, trying to have it both ways, as she feints left and goes right, or fakes right and goes left.
I also think that by mid-summer the reality checks for bush and the goopers will be coming thick and fast, and that no amount of spin by the republicans will save them from a democratic landslide of historic proportions.
The only thing that can save them is Clinton, because if we nominate her, her presence as our choice will become THE reality for a substantial part of the american electorate, and that reality will trump every issue with which we could have hammered them, in the general.
