Motion to table the Judiciary Committee version of the FISA bill successful. 60-34, with just enough Democrats doing their usual rotation to kill it. Congratulations to Harry Reid on successfully manipulating Senate procedure to tank the bill that would not have included retroactive telecom immunity, which he purports to oppose. Unconvincingily, as it were.
JELLO JAY: Offering up Rockefeller/Bond Amendment. Glenn Greenwald says that these are the official White House approved changes to the original Intel version. I guess there were things about the original bill that "Dick Cheney no likey," according to Glenn. This makes it all better. Or something.
BOND: "I knew just enough about the FISA law to be thoroughly confused about how it would work." That’s a quote.
This bill will probably pass. We’re doomed.
FEINGOLD: Proposes Feingold/Dodd Amendment, which requires that if the FISA court issues an opinion that includes a significant legal interpretation of the FISA law, the government must provide its pleadings to congress. Written because the administration believes it can withhold FISA court interpretations from congress.
BOND: Because Feingold/Dodd would require more paperwork, it deserves to be voted down. Yes, that’s what he is saying. Oh, and the terrorists will win.
Stupid…or craven? The eternal dilemma.
KYL: Would that include the ability to redact?
FEINGOLD: Like I just said, the amendment would include the ability to redact.

Wahoo!
362 days of W left, God willing and they don’t gin up some “national emergency.”
wtf is jello jay talking about my ears glazed over,i know its a first
more chance to get confused by the US senate!
EPU’d Rockefeller says he came to his amendment after consulting with the Justice Dept and Intelligence sources. I feel so much better.
is this jello jays 15 minutes of fame?
Attorney General is the one who says when person targeted for surveillance. Is this what he said just now?
Reid needs to GO! he’s hearing from me, i may call daily, what a backstabber! and a liar.
s
Aaaaahhhhh! Leg room…
Hiya Jane, have I said thank you today?
Thank you!
*peeeeelz of gigggggglez* sadly!
s
Rockefeller – Will not limit scope of any current intelligence surveillance practices.
and wtf about Pat Robertsons Bussiness parner Charles Taylor?
“official White House approved changes”
Well I’ll be damned that makes it soooooo much better…..
Geesh…..
partner
Good gawd…Jay Rocky Feller is making my teeth hurt.
Rockefeller – Will not involve Fisa court in overseeing methods of surveillance – but current Executive order standards.
Bond and Blunt are BFF’s you know.
Kit looks like he just consulted his HIP FLASK…
Yes and all the blood diamonds in Sierra Leone and Kongo he has been trading in?
why don’t these bubbleheads understand that criminals are running our country? Rule of men, not laws now. Are we going to lay off our Congress soon?
Bond admits he doesnt understand the complexity of FISA.
Jesus Christ! How many times do I have to see Kit Bond’s ugly mug today?
Sounds as if kit’s batteries are running low. stuttering. blah blah.
MO’s finest? those poor people.
Did Whitehouse just stab us all on the back? It appears they keep trotting out his name to prove how bipartisan this is.
Bond: It is just too complicated to amend and change the Fisa law. Simple little statuatory provision only. (this guy is an idiot)
Bond, I think you mean deception not interception dude…..
With 94 senators voting, it would have taken 48 voting to table, in order to table it. It got many more votes (to table) than it needed. The vote was a blow-out, not even close.
Thank you Congress for your actions today!!
You’ve greatly helped the fundraising efforts of Blue America. We cannot thank you enough.

More and Better in 08!
The intelligence community isn’t going to be tapping my phone? Is he snorting Darth’s Pixie Dust?
Hiya Jane:
Did you get my email this morning? Hope this meets you well…
I hope they are just invoking his name in vain…I like Whitehouse.
russ gets the floor in a few. wonder what he can do?
so ya think they are tap tap, tapping ole Pat?
http://atheism.about.com/libra…..taylor.htm
hes a terra ist
Bullshit Kit! Darth, your dark lork, wants all of the information that we share.
Just put us out of our misery, please.
interception, deception, conception… “impossible to keep up with”
well now. that explains it. Kitty? R E T I R E!
Does anyone have a link to the actual vote by senator? I want to see who the 60 were that killed it!!
Hey Kit, if this was all so freakin’ obvious and important to you all, why didn’t you put it in *in committee*???
Bond: Intelligence community will not try to tap someones phone unless they have evidence phone is in terrorist hands […like quakers, tree huggers, opposing candidates, college professors, FDL bloggers, you know really BAD people]. Why, because they have more communications that they can keep up with. Attorney General if it is an American citizen will have to go to “fisk” depending on how collection is going to occur, if agency of foreign power.
They have more tapped conversations than they can deal with because of the massive illegal sweep here in the US.
Kit: “Expansion of protection” WTF?
feingold dodd amendment up now
Is it possible Clinton can make it back? She only had the one event today. Obama has other events schedule for 4pm and after, but Clinton has nothing after the 2pm gig.
Feingold: Amendment co-sponsored by Dodd.
Harry Reid or Hairy Asshole? I write, you decide.
Has he been getting spit-or-swallow lessons from Joe Lieberman on fellating telcomm lobbyists?
Feingold up now.
Russ they are KROOKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
OOOoooohhh! Feingold up!
What corps and lobbyists contributed to his campaign? That’d be the first thing I would look at if he wasn’t voting like a progressive.
Feingold, thank gawd your here… was tired to listening to the confused blahing of Bond…..
folks tried to keep track, on previous threads…
gotta keep track of Feingold just now, or I’d look. Check the II and III threads of this series…
Harry Reid’s financial data start there.
We’re doomed.
—
They don’t care, there is nothing we can do about it as the time to act was 20 some odd years ago. I know lets vote in a “moderate” in 2008.
Look here.
Schumer’s performance makes me ask, to what extent is AIP*C backing this FISA fraud?
What makes you think she wants to be there?
Feingold’s amendments: Fisa needs to tell congress what it is doing now, and in past 5 years. (THis doesn’t cut it for me).
RUSS you ROCK
Why don’t we all insert the word “terra” every time we talk on the phone. What mayhem that would cause. Now they would have to go back and make a list of words citizens were not allowed to use on the phone or they will create confusion and make things complicated.
terra = confusion and complicated ;)
did he vote aye….thought i heard that
Wow. That’s such a suck-cinct way of putting it. Bravo.
Courage. What makes a King out of a slave? Courage.
What makes the flag on the mast to wave? Courage.
What makes the elephant charge his tusk in the misty mist or the dusky dusk?
What makes the muskrat guard his musk? Courage.
What makes the Sphinx the 7th Wonder? Courage.
What makes the dawn come up like THUNDER?! Courage.
What makes the Hottentot so hot?
What puts the ”ape” in ape-ricot?
Whatta they got that I ain’t got?
Completely. 1) They support a totalitarian state, torture etc. as a means of addressing potential opponents of the state; 2) they consider it payback to Bush for his war press in the M.E.
Happy Corporate Sovereignity Day!
(appropriately midway between
ChristmasShop4Day andPresidents’Executive Day.so – go shopping!)
why is Angelina Jolie, sitting behind Russ?
Jane
What do you mean we’re doomed? Did you really think we’d get a bill without retroactive immunity? Is that what dooms us-retroactive immunity?
If we are doomed it is because we cannot think of alternatives to Democrats and Republicans
Just a question. I found it odd that she only had the one campaign appearance scheduled for today and tha it ended early. I was curious if others had any thought on the matter.
Link to
60-34 vote … the link isn’t “alive” yet, but it will be in due course.

They were shooting for the 60 vote mark perhaps.
Kit acts like HE IS IN CHARGE
wtf? omg
bond even LOOKS like a skid row wino from way back.
HE’S way out of bounds!
STFU

Kirk, you mean to make us cry, right? I think
president’sday is more accurately the Chimperial machtergreifung day or something like that.Dodd on Feingold-Dodd amendment- is way out of bounds puts restraints on law agencies.
Sheldon went over to the dark side on FISA back in November or December.
sit down kit…you aint in charge anymore,or are you
Fuck!
OT, but related… I am sooooooo over this “change” meme the candidates/MSM. I want to hear our presidential candidates say the word, “restoration”, and tell us how they are going to do it. NOW!
Nah, she knows exactly what she’s doing.
Bain capital is Romney -WTF
Frequent and liberal sprinkling of “terra” and “Insha’Allah” in your telephone conversations would probably get you noticed….
It’s always nice to make a few new friends….
Ok, I had to move to a different room. Did they vote on the bipartisan thing? And I’m on the new amendment now?
No fucking way… Mitt contributes to Sheldon Whitehouse? ZOMG! I thought irony was dead with a stake thru it’s heart after the 2000 Presidential election.
Lobbyists.
Each time Bond gets up to speak, he’s a little more inebriated than the last time. His flask ought to be close to empty about now.
Anyone have any good maudlin tunes appropriate for the occasion, accessible by youtube?
No voting yet on either amendment. bloviating.
Bond’s comeback to Feingold: “Too much paperwork!!”
Dip. Shit.
do you mean Bond instead of Dodd???
what is he mumbling and stumbling on about? this is nuts
who said there’s no quorum?
what about retroactive imunity…somebody help me here

More of that dreary music
you’re joking. Right?
anyone remember why Whitehouse darksided? sigh. I hate losing my heroes. He was great at the EPA thing.
Hey I want some of that retroactive immunity for everything I may have uttered right here on the lake….
Who wants to get on the band wagon?….
More Bach!
If Clinton showed up to stand up with Dodd I get the feeling they would all laugh and ask if was April 1st. Nobody is going to show, they just roate the blame and we can’t follow 10% of what they do (that is public, god knows what silly shite is behind closed doors).

OOOooooooH Brandenburg #6! Those treble instruments are all VIOLAS folks, not one violin in the bunch. YEE HAW!
I get a kick out of the “technology changed — these communications used to be carried via satellite.” What that means is that the government has been grabbing communications of US persons whose calls happened to hit a satellite. That MOST international communications, in the past, were obtainable without a warrant.
If you thought your call was on a cable under the Atlantic, or for whatever reason thought you had a right to privacy in an international call, well, think again!
The government is arguing that Americans never had privacy in international calls, and that they shouldn’t expect it now.
Shhhh! (Adie’s listening.)
i say open ALL the prison gates, and Mexicanos have retroactive immunity too…its the repuke way

Reid. Must. Go.
That’s the spirit. Let’s just clear the slate for everyone. How bout we all come clean, any weed smoking tax evading resume fudging wife cheating murders of passion, let’s just fess up, and move on.
so do a dreary dance, if u must. heathen. oh, wait. i resemble that remark.

Obama (poor honey) still desperately trying to get back to D.C.?
ok Adie, you’ve officially been at the keyboard too long.

Since we’re on the subject, can anybody explain why Leahy always seems to be slurring his words in the manner that a drunk would? Is it some sort of speech impediment or is it just me. Don’t get me wrong, he speaks very rationally like a perfect lucid person, so I don’t mean to imply drinking, just that he has a strange speech pattern, IMO.
We can dance if we want to, we can leave your friends behind
‘Cause your friends don’t dance and if they don’t dance
Well they’re no friends of mine
Say, we can go where we want to, a place that they will never find
And we can act like we come from out of this world
Leave the real one far behind
And we can dance
The instant they ride roughshod over Dodd’s filibuster on the unacceptable FISA bill is the instant they turn me 100% against the Dems come November 2008. I will absolutely vote AGAINST the Democrats up and down the ballot. I will NOT reward this shit with money or votes EVER AGAIN.
“We’ll be right back after a word *with* our sponsors.”

why is it over? what did i miss?
Is this Democratic Congress not as big a disaster as the 1600 Crew? No, really. It might be apostasy to say that, but shit folks, we’re not seeing any progressivism here. The two “senator candidates” are so concerned with scoring kindergarten playground points off each other that neither is willing to actually display anyhing actually resembling “leadership”.
I’m sick of these little wussie Bush-dog democrats who get pearl-clutching vapors at the idea that they might be talked bad about by Tony Fratto and Dana Perrino. Or that they might not get invited over for $1,000 Vienna Sausages at Timmeh and Maureen’s place on Valentines day.
[violent retching sounds]
Yeah, Leahy’s got something going on with his speech. Stumbles over his tongue, sounds like. Bit of a shame, cuz I generally love what comes out of his mouth.
Brandenburg #5. And not nearly enuf of it.
No fucking way… Mitt contributes to Sheldon Whitehouse? ZOMG! I thought irony was dead with a stake thru it’s heart after the 2000 Presidential election.

What Mitt Willard and Sheldon, must have had some great summer days on the Vinyard.
Sheesh, I had to blink a couple of times to realize you were referring to the senators. Great idea…have Dr. Phil come to the Senate floor to hear from everyone to free them from the fear of blackmail.

FISA does NOT expire Feb. 1. PAA does. Can somebody tell CSPAN to get it right. They are supposed to be neutral dammit.
Ah, the theodicy question:
So, I’d proffer different options: ‘impotent… or wicked’?
Maybe his dentures are slipping?
For Bush and Cheney, thats the Real Mission Accomplished!
I am really angry about the lack of support from Clinton, Obama and Edwards. I know Edwards can’t vote, but his tepid statement was a zero, and none of them could be bothered to return to D. C. for this.
I have sent all three of them letters stating that I will not donate to, or vote for them. I may have to stay home on Nov. 4th. I want leadership, and the Dems, from the candidates right down the line to Harry and Nancy, aren’t leaders.
I KNOW IT.
i’m just sayin’
Knights of cydonia. How can we win when fools can be kings.
Oooooo. I like that. Never heard of them. Thanks, Raven!
now there’s some good snark!
The questions presuppose that good and evil are different…and they’re not.
The glass isn’t just half full or half empty, it’s half full *and* half empty.
And even beyond that, it’s just a glass with water in it.

oops. Still Brandenburg #5, but 2nd music.
Dreary enuf for ya? Go sit in the recliner. Close yer eyes, and channel this stuff.
Spritely stuff: 3rd movement…..
ROFLMAO. Perfect.
Reid, Obama and Clinton and McKaskill definitely don’t dance.
Molly, there is no leadership left… all we see is triangulation, questing for money not justice or truth and a craven desire to continue to be re-elected, because the perks are awesome and it beats actually working for a living.
Fasten seat belts. Harpsichord about to break loose….
Yea, well we must vote for the lesser of two evils, right? Any Dem is gonna be better than any Repube.
/s
This attitude is precisely why we’re in the current predicament IMHO. We must demand More and Better Democrats.

Hi Jane!!!
Just goes to show, we either have to seriously put the fear of “Gawd” in our Congressional representation or we have got to be able to convince voters across the country that it has become necessary to remove virtually all of our incumbents from office. We cannot “renew their contracts,” so to speak. They’re all looking pretty damn corrupt and vulnerable to me.
If Edwards doesn’t win the Dem primaries, what’s the chance
of him running as an independant? He seems to be in it for the long haul.
The “generation gap” is alive and well! (:
Why sure they do. With the one’s what brung ‘em.
Depends
Oooooo. I like that. Never heard of them. Thanks, Raven!
Wow, never hear of Men Without Hats! What about Dexy’s Midnight Runners?
Yep.
NSA has been able to capture transnational calls for decades.
All those WH Blackberries? Rove’s little friends? Their signals went through Canada.
All fodder for the NSA’s data scoops and sieves.
For details, check out the report commissioned for the European Parliament’s STOA committee (sec 4.4; pp 19 – …)
For the general picture: James Bamford has been writing about it for years.
Wired and Covert Action Quarterly also cover(ed) this at length (not sure if latter still in print)
I’m afraid we might get screwed in a split the vote kinda way if that happens.
Have already e-mailed Reid and asked him to step down as Leader. Told him a lot of other stuff, too.
Unfortunately, I’m just a tad too stubborn to give everything up tot he Repubs without a fight.
Naive? Quite likely. But needed nevertheless. I will not let them win out of frustration and quitting.
Pink Floyd
“>”Money”
Are we being invaded by concern trolls?
Well, gotta go now….
The upside of this whole episode is that I have learned that retroactive immunity is a venue that can be applied to everyday living….
I thank these Senate FISA proceedings for that special thought for the day…
Aloha!….
Nope. I don’t get out much, apparently. I shall youggle them.
Let’s try that again:
BWAH-HA-HA-HA!!!
No such thing. Try a “cleaner” version. It’s more gratuitous to boot.
So, is Dodd all set to party…?
just got in- anyone in Senate mentioned the ACLU/ Melman poll about voters’ opinions? Or not matter what voters think?
Sorry, I’m having a problem making that link work.
I love cryptome. One of the best websites ever, and John Young is a hero

bond again
ah cripes, bond again. His head is going crooked.
hi lhp!
Can we send Dodd “filibuster pizzas”? I think they should be made with artisan mozzarella, local herbs and no pork.
If Edwards doesn’t win the Dem primaries, what’s the chance
of him running as an independant? He seems to be in it for the long haul.
—
He will not have enough support, and he seems to be close enought to the others (though I happen to think better) that they best one could hope for is him as a VP or US AG. He he did run as an independent I would vote for him, if the R’s won I would just leave (and if Cliton or Obama won I would stay to watch the decline).
LHP – excellent.
i hope so!!!
right bond. just share that info with cheney;s office.
and apparently *somebody* just clued him in on making a “secrecy” argument against Feingold’s wanting to see the pleadings.
Beats “too much paperwork”, I guess…
Would someone mind giving me a tip on posting a URL? TIA
Edwards as a US AG that hopefully would clean up some of the mess and make sure the D’s kept there nose clean as well.

yeah! good news
Not voting for anyone this year with the possible exception of Edwards — the Democratic party doesn’t deserve assistance from anyone with a brain — and to hell with all the hectoring civic duty Nazis who ask me if I’d rather see the Republicans win. We don’t get change by supporting the old system. I’m 62 and I quit.
“This argument has *no* *merit*!” – Go Feingold!
Okayyyy. Now I officially have whiplash.
sloshed kit straight to JSBach Orchestral Suite #3 straight back to kittylitter…
don’t cry folks, but i gotta go git groceries… i shall leave AFTER muting kitty.
…as you were…
Bond
“any time a mothod or means is exposed it is a possibel death sentnce to those workingwith us or to an agent”
Tell that to Valerie Plame asshole!
The filibuster ain’t over yet. TPM had a scorecard on the plan for today. We’re only in like the 3rd inning, I think. We’ve got a ways to go.
I think the best hope is still the filibuster: tie things up in knots for long enough that Reid decides he has to pull the FISA legislation in order to get other business done, just like he did in December. Then, remember, if the Senate ever does cough up a bill (I’m thinking here of a cat coughing up a hair ball), it still has to be reconciled with the House version and then approved by both bodies again.
So even though we’ve lost a few rounds, it ain’t over yet.
Bob in HI
Hiding behind tragedy to make arguments that have no merit. Feingold speaking about Bond. You go Russ!!
Click on the URL (highlight) then Ctrl C….go to where you want to post it and hit Ctrl V.
Let’s all vote GOP in November and turn the big shitpile over to the GOP.
Then start up a resistance movement.
It would be far better than being willing dupes in the death of America which is what the Democratic has become.
-G
yes sir……….
Right on, Russ! This has no Merit…
Hey back attcha.
How’s Cassie doing? Littleprop asked about her the other day.
What percentage of the voting public are we netroots? Are there any rough numbers? Its a growing concern, and therein lies some optimism, but it is hard to know what we know while everyone slumbers (or gets horribly mislead by the MSM).
OT: Is Russ single? Available? Anyone know how to arrange an introduction?
Russ gettin’ shitty…
More of this, please…
Interesting that little list of those “Not Voting” – I would wager that they believe that they’re paired off and would only offset each other so it’s all OK
I would love to see this on the Senate floor.
Lift up your voices.
Adie, can you bring home some musical kitty litter for me, too?
Figure out what you want to name the URL. You can even simply use “Link” after you’ve described it in your comment. Then select the name, click on the chain icon in the menubar at the top of the comment box, and you will be prompted for the URL. Then when you click “OK” your link will appear in your comment. For example: FDL Live Thread V (this post).
It’s not about quitting out of frustration. In fact, it’s the exact opposite.
Isn’t that what the whole Blue America movement is all about? Finally, fight and stand up to the Corporatists that have infiltrated the DemocratIC Party specifically to destroy it from within. Just any ‘ol Dem candidate won’t suffice anymore. We must Fight and demand More and Better.
Russ F:
I do not want to give up my power just because.
Pretty good idea.
I just can’t say how furious I am with these Democratic Cheney-enablers. They disgust me to the core.
She’s good. Moving to El Paso this weekend and eager (but somewhat frightened) about starting school there. She and my nephew will be living on base. My new niece-in-law will be joining them in May.
MoveOn petition to ban paperless voting. You can do it in half a minute.
Much as I love hte guy–he really has not experience with how DOJ works–ahem, is supposed to work. He does not have the chops for the job and would havee a hard time wooing back the real professionals who are desperately needed to restore DOj to a fully functional agency.
Nope, he should stick with the President idea.
Thank you Votecounter
In the “leave your response box, just above where you type in your message, are some little icons. The next to the last one (reading left to right) is a couple of chain links.
(1) Type in your message as usual
(2) Open another tab/window, and go to the item to which you want to link, and copy the URL into your clipboard.
(3) Go back to the FDL tab/window, highlight the text you want to BE the link, and click on those little chain links.
(4) A popup will appear — paste the URL from your clipboard into it, and hit OK.
That’s it!
Happy linking . . . and if you want to be doubly sure you did it right, click on Preview first. Preview is your friend.
(left one of these < ) then this: (so it looks like this at the beginning <a href) a href="http://wwww.whateveryouwant.com" rel="nofollow">the tag you need here “
Make sense? I can’t put the real syntax in, or you’d never see it. just remember to put the “< "</b> before the a href and then the rest will work after you cut and paste your url where the http part is (don’t forget the http:// either).
Those not voting:
Clinton (D-NY)
Graham (R-SC)
McCain (R-AZ)
Obama (D-IL)

Once again the “front runners” do not vote on anything. And of course the media could not be bothered with their voting records before they started the run – convenient, perfect way to almost never talk about votes or have to show up. Just like Mitts kids, they can’t go to Iraq since they are serving America by working on Dada’s campaign.
surely can. it’d be an honour.
must admit it’s harder to leave now, with Russ up instead of bitty.
If you only do that, the link won’t appear in the comment. You have to name your link first, then select the name and copy and paste the URL into the link window.
In case Biodun is around, I caught my spelling error. Its misled. ; )
Sad music. There is clearly someone at CSpan who is doing an aural commentary on the proceedings!
or you can do what Peterr says. LOL. :) Happy linking!!
I’m gonna miss most of the fun. Ironically, I’m going to a dinner tonight on the topic of FISA. Gonna hear our Boy David Kris’s latest musings.
I don’t know who will have more ants in their pants to get back to a screenful of CSpan, him or me. *g*
As far as I’m concerned there should be a “brawl” over this wholesale shitting on and use of the constitution, as toilet paper. Like in Japan…. a lively lot for sure!!
u thot i was joshing, eh? nope. it be. ;->
Northwest Gal, Actually, disregard my first post because the HTML parser did not like me using partial HTML commands and ate it. Sorry bout that.
My son was home sick during the last Fisa vote. He and I created these pieces of artwork using some of the slogans that came up during one of Christy’s threads.
Clinton and Obama won’t lead on FISA, they won’t follow Dodd and Feingold. They just need to get the f^&k out of the way.
What? Graham passed on a chance to be a complete robotic tool?
What I could discern from Bond’s proposal is that the pleadings from DoJ would be exempt from congressional scrutiny, am I right…?
Much as I love hte guy–he really has not experience with how DOJ works–ahem, is supposed to work. He does not have the chops for the job and would havee a hard time wooing back the real professionals who are desperately needed to restore DOj to a fully functional agency.

I do not know what sort of skills he would have to pick up, but running Presidential Campagins, being rich, and hard working laywer extracting money from mega corporations must be a good start. You may good points as well, he would sure as shite be better than Abu G, but there are many skills to consider.
The primary skill is someone who has the Consititution and the American people in mind. Bush II was supposed to be a great manager as well.
If you want to show the html, substitute brackets for the carats and then explain it that way is what I have done in the past.
TexBetsy, re: political art – cool!
The link will appear in the comments, but you won’t get the kewl “name” you give it. *g*
Thank you Votecounters
With Clinton and Obama, it is not that they could not be bothered to vote. It is that they missed an opportunity to exercise real leadership. If the 3 Democratic frontrunners, but specifically Obama and Clinton as serving Senators, had made it clear that the position of all the major Democratic candidates was the rejection of the Intel version and support for the SJC one, it would be interesting to see whether the weasel bloc of the party would still have gone with Bush and the Republicans or whether they would have stood with those, one of whom is going to be the next President.
Didn’t realize I had copied the “embed” link instead of the page the video is on. I am just so angry right now.
Thanks kindly, LS and msmolly, for helping out.

Nice. Thanks, I’ll remember that.
AWSOME artwork son of Betsy! WTG!

THE number 1 thing is Edwards favor is that he would owe nothing to anybody. He could tell the lobbyists and their big corporations to take a hike.
Thank you, Peter.
ouuuuuuu
PERFECT! TUNES!!
Our candidates don’t bother to show up to defend constitution. How telling.
I wrote this to my Senator. I was already ticked off over another vote in which she caved, but this took the proverbial biscuit
Dear Senator Mikulski,
I am deeply disturbed by your “AYE” vote in regard to the Motion to Table for the Senate Judiciary Committee’s version of the FISA bill.
We are now one step closer in allowing retroactive immunity for telecommunications companies who enabled the Bush administration to illegally eavesdrop on American citizens.
I am deeply disappointed that you did not support Senators Feingold and Dodd in their efforts in stopping this.
The Bush administration broke the existing FISA law when it instructed the telephone companies to eavesdrop on Americans. If the telephone companies acted in good faith, they are allowed, under existing law, to prove that they have done so. Allowing immunity, however, will ensure that the existing law suits against the telephone companies will get thrown out and the Bush administration will never be held accountable for breaking the law.
I do not understand how you cannot stand for the rule of law. You had pledged in your last campaign to “fight for Maryland.” Allowing this travesty is quite the opposite.
While I will never vote Republican, should you come up for election again, I will not vote for you either (which I have done twice before)
I realize this will have zero effect, but I “did this for me,” and it helped to get it off of my chest…
OMG, the house across the alley and one house over is on fire. Bet it’s like my fire was, aluminum wiring starting with an arc in the attic. Hope they can put it out fast and that nobody was hurt!
I’m starting to bug out with all this waiting and this (nice nice) music.
art work………sums it up!!!
Yikes! Which way is the wind blowing?
LHP – How about Whitehouse as AG? Or do you like him right where he is?
I’m convinced our Democratic leaders are deliberately trying to destroy our party from within. Look what the insiders of the party in power with a dismal 30% approval rating are saying:
And yet: “Some administration supporters on Capitol Hill say that they expect House Democrats and other opponents of the administration’s position to wilt under pressure as the White House steps up its effort to portray Democrats as obstructionists in the war on terror. It’s a tactic the White House has used effectively in the past–most recently last summer, when President Bush pressured Democrats into passing the temporary surveillance bill that is about to expire. Apparently he believes it will work at least one more time.”
;-)
HRC and Obama believe that the FISA/telco immunity issue is off the radar. With the current state of a complicit right wing fascist media, they may well be correct. But we won’t forget.
Horrible!!
good letter DBaker
words vs actions……….
what am I thinking? they all didn’t vote because having the DOJ and attorney general at your command would be a very good thing, not bad. also very telling.
In my experience, if you don’t name it first, NOTHING appears in the comments. It is a problem I had a week or so ago. IIRC the old version of the FDL Wordpress implementation prompted for a name, but this one doesn’t.
You don’t need a weather man. . .
I think they put it out already. When I first looked out and saw it, there was dark black smoke which appeared to be billowing out of the attic vents. Now, all I see is a relatively inocuous cloud of white smoke. Thank goodness for a good fire dept. Thanks for asking.
I think I’m going to go dig out some of my old records to listen to today.
(smiling) Yes, I did say records.
I agree with you.
I posted this earlier today:
This is a great read. Link to this sight and click mid screen on January 9,2006 A Response To The Justice Department From Law Professors ANd Former Government Officials
http://www.fas.org/irp/agency/doj/fisa/
Wish I could do a nicer job for the link.
It’s worth the read for anyone. It lays out the 4th Amend. issues and addresses the issues of Unitary Executive (inherent Presidential Authority)language, AJ and DOJ powers and “balance of Powers” (or lack there of) language.
Enjoy!
No, you don’t.

This is my optimistic (in wishful tin hat mode) take on it: The Dems are doing this so that when we get a Dem for president, she/he will use their “capital” to restore and make right all the wrongs of the Bush Admin.
Okay, maybe not.
Sounds awfully socialist to me.
Good thing we don’t run our hospitals like that.
What is the point of having a political party when the party does not have a policy line on issues, let alone anything resembling party discipline for its members? I mean don’t they all behave as self important independents?
Thanks – I am not used to this new interface and don’t like the fact that you can’t edit after the fact. The last paragraph was not in my letter and I meant to italicize the whole thing.
It’s really sad since Mikulski is supposed to be one of the “good Dems” we’re trying to get more of. Perhaps Verizon put a little present into her stocking recently or she can’t wait to get to Davos.
Thanks for all the work you have done on this.
