How ironic that Russia is rising again, buoyed by it’s energy reserves.

Will we be borrowing from and begging them for some help?

“Not with the international assistance community, with its misguided counter-narcotics policies, high-priced consultants and wasteful practices. Out of the billions that have supposedly come into the country, only a trickle has been used to good effect.”

kinda says it all for me - the rank incompetency that fills the “leaders” of the world is shameful to admit to as a human being. Are we that stupid and greedy and so filled with our own inflated self-beliefs that we don’t recognize our limitations? Have no idea why I just asked that, I already know the answer. Judy Miller was “proved f’in right!” and Middle America (centrist) is angry.

Here’s an excellent comment on Gibson’s Heath Ledger rant from yesterday’s thread on TP:

Interesting how, in demonizing Heath Ledger for his role in a “gay-themed” movie, he overlooks an earlier role that may have been more to Gibby’s liking: the young man who gave his life for his country’s freedom in the Mel Gibson historical epic “The Patriot”.

I mean, if an actor’s choice of role makes such a difference to Gibby, shouldn’t Ledger have been given credit for taking on such a patriotic role in a depiction of American history?

maybe somebody could give John Gibson a fake slap on the back - and leave a “Kiss Me, I’m Gay” sign on his back first…

I also don’t think Eisenhower ever envisioned that a foreign country would play such a determining role in US foreign policy, financially supported by individuals here whose commitment in part lies elsewhere. There were fears then of course that Russia (Marxism, Communism) was becoming a factor in the US - hence the violent and illegal moves to black list those seen to be involved. In many ways the Congress today is no better than Congress then in addressing this issue. (And what in heavens name is Congress doing at this point in particular in going after sports stars for steroids. Priorities much? Nah. Too much to ask.
