But of course.. I have mastered the art of listening and typing…sometimes :>)
get out yer lighters….
And I saw them in Philly, when “Behind Blue Eyes” was new. A very long time ago.
Oh yeah! *grooves* Wish i’d been able to see them when they reunited back in 2002. *sighs* The tour was here in GR and i couldn’t afford to go!
pete punches that tambourine at the beginning so hard – i thought his arm was gonna go right through it
I saw a funny Wilkerbean (?) comic with everyone with open cell phones, and he with his Bic.
clever substitution of harmonica for the studio version’s fiddle in the ending hoedown.
Who did you say that was?
“Bic awes the night, belongs to us” (old fogyeys)*
*speaking for myself, anyway
First(and maybe last) laser light show I saw. The Who at Veterans Memorial Barn in Des Moines. Pete ripped off a fingernail doing one of his famous roundhouse guitar strums. He was hurtin’.

Suz,
It is an intracervical device, meant to act like an IUD but pretty much a failure, then. Mr. CE is not telling me the whole truth here, and I think that it was very painful to implant… I had an IUD inserted in 1975, and they had peel me off the ceiling.
my mom was part of the planned parenthood iud tests back in the 60’s. she said it hurt less than having a kid does so it evened out.
very cool, suz
Poor Mom,
My IUD totally didn’t work.
alas, the forkers at utube limit one to 500 or less favorites. i don’t know what i’m gonna do.
I’ve seen the Who three times.
First time in 1973 at a notorious Cow Palace Quadrophenia show where Moonie passed out in a drug-induced blather and Pete called up some kid from the audience to play drums (rumors are it was the drummer from Earthquake or the Rubinoos). Here’s some rare footage of that weird incident.
I also saw them at Winterland in ‘77, just before it closed…and later in about ‘88 in a stadium show in Oakland.
Sure hope to – do you know the date?
(…trying to make certain I’ll have enough time to get to the ELAW conference in early March…)

this follows so I don’t make two posts:
and another rant -
OK how much more fawning does US media have to do the Coens’ latest psychotic excresence before all involved have demonstrating their “artistic sensitivities”…and a keen instinct follow the commercial herd rumbling off in the unerring direction of greater public titillation/desensitization…
which just happens to be the direction of greatest profits.
Gee, I wonder which came first.
Blergh. Psychopath “cinema” is vile.

Brings back memories of Bad Kreuznach in Germany 1968 at the Cave…
oh sure, kirk, no later than the 1st or 2nd of march since leap year is on a friday. either that weekend or the weekend before, probably on a sunday afternoon like we did in november.
P.S.
Sorry people, when medical people start talking, they even think anyone is interested. My bad.
Make another account (cheat a little)
I think we saw them in Philly in about 1971. Would that fit? I was a sophmore in 1972 at Univ.Delaware.
I’m interested! I had an IUD too.
c’ape, i heard a radio interview with some guy who claimed to be that drummer. i’m sorry, i don’t remember a forking thing about the interview other than that it was him.
Horton saw them live at Leeds.
I never had one of those thingys…didn’t we cover (uncover) that subject last late last night???? :>)
That probably would have been the Tommy “Pinball Wizard” tour…they did a lot of the same stuff at the Quadrophenia Tour, especially apres Keith was hauled off stage and the fan took up the drumsticks.

Hey Margot,
We should talk about this on FB. The really interesting thing is that DES has so much to do with this.
I’ve been quite interested, but until I could tell if Mr. CE was your upholsterer, your spouse, or your dad, I thought I’d best refrain from comment. :)
LOL!
kirk, mr ce is doing an exhibit on contraception that ce posted the linky to last night (hoping she has it handy).

From:
Martin Luther King III
To;
Honorable John Edwards
Dear al,
This past Saturday, while in Atlanta, John Edwards had a private meeting with Martin Luther King, III — the eldest son of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Today — Martin Luther King Day — John received a letter from Martin Luther King, III as a follow-up to that meeting. You can read it below.
I hope you will take a moment to read this wonderful call from Dr. King’s son urging John to stay in the race — and to continue fighting to eliminate injustice in America today.
Like Dr. King, John believes passionately that “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” That is why he will continue to speak out, without fear or favor, on the issue of economic justice in America.
During tonight’s presidential debate, you could see John doing exactly what Martin Luther King, III urged him to do: framing the issues of health care and the economy as a struggle for justice.
And as the other two candidates bickered over who’s right and who’s wrong, it was John who cut through the fracas and asked, “This kind of squabbling, how many kids is this going to get health care? We have to understand this is not about us personally.”
That’s why he will fight on to the Democratic Convention and to the nomination, ignoring the pundits who want this to be little more than a two-candidate race, continuing to lead with an agenda that does “not blur lines or obscure the truth.”
I hope you will continue to stand by John as he fights for an agenda of bold change, economic justice and providing a voice for those Americans that would otherwise be voiceless. Your support sustains John as he campaigns across this country.
In the meantime, please take a few minutes to read the letter below from Martin Luther King, III that so eloquently expresses why John is running.
Sincerely,
–David Bonior
National Campaign Manager, John Edwards for President
January 21, 2008
January 20, 2008
The Honorable John R. Edwards
410 Market Street
Suite 400
Chapel Hill, NC 27516
Dear Senator Edwards:
It was good meeting with you yesterday and discussing my father’s legacy. On the day when the nation will honor my father, I wanted to follow up with a personal note.
There has been, and will continue to be, a lot of back and forth in the political arena over my father’s legacy. It is a commentary on the breadth and depth of his impact that so many people want to claim his legacy. I am concerned that we do not blur the lines and obscure the truth about what he stood for: speaking up for justice for those who have no voice.
I appreciate that on the major issues of health care, the environment, and the economy, you have framed the issues for what they are – a struggle for justice. And, you have almost single-handedly made poverty an issue in this election.
You know as well as anyone that the 37 million people living in poverty have no voice in our system. They don’t have lobbyists in Washington and they don’t get to go to lunch with members of Congress. Speaking up for them is not politically convenient. But, it is the right thing to do.
I am disturbed by how little attention the topic of economic justice has received during this campaign. I want to challenge all candidates to follow your lead, and speak up loudly and forcefully on the issue of economic justice in America.
From our conversation yesterday, I know this is personal for you. I know you know what it means to come from nothing. I know you know what it means to get the opportunities you need to build a better life. And, I know you know that injustice is alive and well in America, because millions of people will never get the same opportunities you had.
I believe that now, more than ever, we need a leader who wakes up every morning with the knowledge of that injustice in the forefront of their minds, and who knows that when we commit ourselves to a cause as a nation, we can make major strides in our own lifetimes. My father was not driven by an illusory vision of a perfect society. He was driven by the certain knowledge that when people of good faith and strong principles commit to making things better, we can change hearts, we can change minds, and we can change lives.
So, I urge you: keep going. Ignore the pundits, who think this is a horserace, not a fight for justice. My dad was a fighter. As a friend and a believer in my father’s words that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere, I say to you: keep going. Keep fighting. My father would be proud.
Sincerely,
Martin L. King, III
Oh, Sorry KirkMurphy,
(BTW we love you)
The truth is that Mr. CE is my husband of 33 years, and he is the Chief Curator of the Dittrick Museum.
I saw the who live in Oklahoma City in 1968 I believe, shortly after they released the single Magic Bus
Wow – how totally cool. Love back atcha, CE.
I was so bummed for you when I read your produce update a few days back. Hoping for affordable healthy greens springing up your way.
thanks for that1 I hope John listens to MLK III. I know several here at the lake sent John letters today urging him to stay in the race… Go John Edwards
Nite! Mr. CE reminds me that I HAVE A JOB TO GO TO…Love to you all.
g’nite CE *waving to mr CE*
G’nite CE!
G’nite pups!
Nite Chris!

Evening, all!
Any ipod whizzes here? I’m good at computers, not so good with these thingmabobs.
I didn’t use mine for a few months. Tried recharging the battery but after ample time (during which I can sometimes see the battery charge icon), I can’t seem to get it to turn back on.
Any further incantations to try? Goats to sacrifice, herbs to burn, etc?
Someone actually has taken the trouble to count how many times Bush and his myrmidons (is Cheney a myrmidon…or a co-equal demiurge?) made false statements about Iraq and WMD’s and Al Qaida leading up to the Invasion. It approaches nearly 1000 incidents, with Dubya in at #1, but Colin Powell close behind. I would have guessed it was Cheney, or maybe Ari, but no..good ol’ Colin was given the journeyman task of putting on his Mr. Whipple face and telling us “Trust ME! I’m Colin Powell!”
Misinformation Campaign
hey pb – newton is some sorta mac whiz – i think he is still around…
Does your computer recognize it?
what model, peanut butter?
wudda been handy to have that report before the 2004 election
Apparently one can replace the battery, but if it starts to charge and makes some weird clicks, and then it shuts off… the hard-drive might be damaged. The I-shop told me it was irreparable and I might as well get a new one. Maybe that was bull…but I did it.
Here’s a discussion page at Apple Support. It’s an odd cure for a nano that won’t turn on, but you have to read it yourself. Hope it helps.
no. Hard drive clicks are usually a sign of doom. If you here it in anythign with one? It’s a sign of impending meltdown of some type. I had one do that to me a few years ago. I DREAD that sound to this day.
Apple’s Official walk-thru iPod troubleshooting page
Probably all they would have said was “Hey we REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY believed in the information provided by the insane Iraqi dissident, the tortured Al Qaida informant (al-Libi), the British white (toilet) paper, and voices from the Supreme Being channeled through our
WhoreWar President. After all, why would we repeat it so often if we didn’t BELIEVE this stuff!”Now that’s handy. It’s been bookmarked for future use. Quite sure I’ll need that eventually.
I wudda thought cheney wudda been #2 but was not too surprised by colin. he was their ‘trust me’ guy they used until all of his credibility was gone.
I last saw the Who @ Oakland Stadium in the late 80’s. We had nose-bleed tickets and ended up in the tenth row thanks to knowing a few folks working the show. The concert far surpassed my expectations.
The discussion forum you pointed at is full of gems, too.
Wow! That’s an interesting bit of I-Pod troubleshooting. Put it in a fridge! I know that batteries tend to preserve better in the fridge, but I didn’t think that the electrons would activate in one! Wonder how that works. Is it something to do with quantum mechanics or is it more mechanical?
I thought keeping batteries in the freezer to keep em fresh was an ole wives tale. I was wrong?
That would have been the last show I saw them at as well! It was billed as their final tour, because Pete was going deaf, but they later came back to play some very pricey small venue shows. Pete played an acoustic guitar then. And I think they’ve done one or two reunion shows since.
Sibel update (but not limited to her) – New to me, Daniel Ellsberg pens it @ consortium news
pun!
Leave it to you to determine the upper limit.
Damn them!
I do this with completely hopeless hard disks. Worked 3 out of 8 times so far. Chill overnight, room temp for 4 hours, install and recover.
It has to do with the hard drive, they are temperature sensitive. heads and all.. Clicking by the drive is always bad sign… never been able to fix one when it does that. What is happening is the drive is looking for track zero.. no track zero no hard drive heads track back and forth thus clicking when it hits the stops
ipod video, 80G 5th gen I think? nov 2006
That’s the one!
Batteries = chemical reaction low temp slow chem reaction… Works for coffee to
Here…
If my coffee ever clicks on me, I’ll be sure to try putting it in the freezer ;-)
I’m not sure if it’s clicking. To be honest, I’d probably have to be holding it.
Handy for whom? Certainly not the regime and its media enablers.
Looking forward to the February meetup, Suzanne. Now I can free up my Sundays in January that I’ve been holding open…. heh heh. So many demands on my time.
Electronics, particularly modern silicon ones? Thrive on cold. Silicon LOVES it. Which is why the storage in a ‘cool dry place’ is always essential. Basic electronic geekage there.
For the Norwegian bourse (did tank yesterday)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..re=related
The old tubes liked it cold also.. I did work with them
hey teddy – is your fiance gonna be able to accompany you this time?
Yep. I don’t work with them aside from as a user. But i remember picking that up somewhere. I read so much, and little things like that stick. *shrugs and grins*
Why i’m a girlgeek, methinks.
Gender doesn’t matter! Just an understanding of the basics will take any one a long way with electronics. the desire to fix things helps and soemtimes when you have RTFM…. or at least knowing how to use one…
Is every one watching Letterman or something??
oh crap, i forgot – edwards on letterman.. thanks
not yet it’s a corona..
I was wandering thru the Apple store, drooling over the iTouch iPod.

Wake up
oh geez, that took me back
I didn’t know Edwards was going to be on Letterman. Did I miss him?
Thanks. I have a suspicion the freezer trick may do it. I’ve done that with hard drives, didn’t stop to think that that’s basically what the ipod is. :-P
not yet!
Whew!
This one will wake you up

oh well
Kool Beatle flick/tune Donka! Amazing the charm they had and so prolific!
Edwards on Letterman West Coast now.
thanks newton
John is on
wow, letterman does not like BO
From Playboy after Dark
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33k9pRTfo2I
OT: I just want to draw everyone’s attention to the joint efforts by Jane Hamsher and Glenn Greenwald to get the Democratic presidential candidates (especially John Edwards) to go to Washington DC to lead the fight against FISA. Talking points:
— telco immunity entails BushCo immunity
— the place to try federal crimes is in federal court, not in Congress where corporate fortunes can buy a verdict
— Per Benjamin Franklin: “Those who would trade essential liberties for a bit of safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.”
— Per William Pitt: “Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves.”
Didn’t Letterman tell BO to his face one night that 70% of what he said was crap?
I don’t think John does either… Glad he is keeping the vets and all those who are bearing the social injustices of our country in the fore front of the race!
That will depend on his work schedule, Suzanne.
Wow, wasn’t JRE great on Letterman? Looks like he’s learned not to fix his hair when there’s a camera around!
wigwam, jane’s post is now up on the front page over at digg – hope a lotta folks sign up for the FISA updates
but to be saying BO is a forking liar when BO isn’t on the show and he is talking to JE about vet’s… i guess its been a while since i’ve seen letterman
when do we start getting them? Oh moderator of ours >)
Hiya, pups! Home from a long day at work.
Has FDL done a specific Sibel Edmonds post since the London Times article came out at the beginning of the second week of January? Has fdl ever done Sibel Edmonds post?
Some more for your enjoyment
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqZmtq5LhFo
Thanks, Suzanne.
Well, Dave seems to have common sense and intelligence, so… yeah he’d have to hate what BO does. Can’t get much lower than lying about the problems our veterans are having.
Granted, entertainers don’t usually express those opinions publicly, so good for Dave for doing it.
i don’t know – i guess when there is FISA news we will get updates
Ok, I’m done for tonight. See all you wonderful pups tomorrow.
g’nite TOW
ET, they have not done one recently that I am aware of. I believe there have been posts in the past, dealing with the gag order.
ET here is something from the DU http://www.democraticundergrou…..15;2746135
g’nite, pups, i’m up too late as it is! but worth it to see JRE on Letterman.
I covered the continuing non-reportage today, quoting Daniel Ellsberg’s op-ed at Bradblog at length.
g’nite teddy
that op-ed was something, et. made me wonder if the fed pushback was directed from high up congress or OVP
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpkitLUbeEg
Barracuda
probably both. Marc Grossman, the guy Edmonds fingers as having been caught on tape warning people to stay away from Brewster-Jennings long before Plame was outed, will be testifying before Waxman tomorrow (Wednesday for you lower 48-ers). Not on Edmonds, but on some Fortress America bullshit. If emptywheel fails to cover this, I’m going to out her as a gatekeeper.
The hearing will be podcast here.
Well a little something for the end of the evening for me
