I wouldn’t say it’s a "macaca" moment for him, because to give him some credit, I think his heart was probably in the right, or at least the benignly opportunistic, place. But still…wow.
I hereby nominate this to the "Embarrassing Hall of Fame", some of the prior winners:

Zed?
Bush is not merely a “moment” of embarrassment. He’s all embarrassent, all the time.
That’s right, hence “2001 to Present”
Woohoo Mitt
Aw, where’s Madeline Albright dancing with the North Koreans?

Sorry- I didn’t see anything rise to the level of the others in that video…..the who let the dogs out is stupid/flat but nothing really embarassing here that I see….
There’s also this, from Dick Cheney.
CNN.com -
BREAKING NEWS: Fed cuts key U.S. interest rate by three-quarters of a percentage point
sorry, MSNBC.com
good morning all… coffee is almost ready…
fed just dropped the rate 3/4 percent… I have no idea what that means.
everything about dick cheney is an embarrasment
what an unbelieveable, inept dweeb
Good morning attaturk.
Latest moment of BushCo political self-embarrassment? How about the presser announcing the stimulus package last Fri., where GWB, Cheney, & Paulson all looked like they’d just stepped in dog shit…
RFD TV reporting Fed cutting interest rates 3/4 point.
peterr, I just clicked that link, I actually had no idea he did that
this is amazing, if people don’t see this man is single handedly trying to start world war 3 and an arms race again they are blind as bats or partners in the crime

I think Mitt was just trying to speak to the natives in language they would understand.
What an asshat.
you know, with global warming, melting of our glaciers, the people that can do something about it but make believe the problem doesn’t exist, our technology causing our own doom;
I am reminded of the story of atlantis
what a prophesy that was indeed
In my head, I can hear the Department of State and White House protocol officers seeing Cheney and chatting among themselves . . .
DOS: So the assistant to the Chancellor says . . . OMG.
WH: Says what? OMG why?
DOS: Look at your #2 over there (points to Cheney)
WH: (eyes wide) OMFG . . . You gotta do something.
DOS: Me? He’s more of a White House guy, not Foggy Bottom.
WH: Maybe so, but he’ll skin me alive if I say something.
DOS: Sorry, but that’s way above my pay grade, and they don’t give DC-based Foreign Service officers hazard pay. Besides, your coat will fit him a lot better than mine will.
WH: OK . . . but at my funeral, say something nice.
Well, if you have any money in savings, either money funds or treasuries or whatever, your interest income will drop. Too bad that inflation is now greater than the return to conservative savings. It also means that Bernanke is terrified. If your money is in the stock market, on average, you are losing money quickly, and it is expected to get worse today. This credit mess is a lot worse than the liars were telling us.
we have been printing more paper then anyone could have possibly imagined
so much so, they discontiued reporting the m3 index which once told us how hard our printing presses are working
I am telling you, they know as a fact what they are doing, its deliberate
they are dismantling the new deal, they are trying to bring back the robber baron economy where there is the wealthy and everyone else
it is what they want
I do have a silver lining. My worry was that this would come in 2009, so the filthy republicans could blame the new Democratic administration. Now the blame will all be theirs.
It also seems to be helping the Dow Jones futures markets. Maybe the collapse today will come later, giving more of us a chance for an orderly exit.
being given free money will always help the market
is should also help the housing industry and if I can find a good deal I am thinking of trying to get some super low rates that will almost definately outperform inflation
It’s all Clinton’s fault! Don’t you remember? They inherited this recession! /s
The Romney video was great. You could tell by some of the facial expressions, they had to be thinking “Why’s this white man walking up to me wanting to shake my hand?” As for George, he never learned to act like a human being, much less an intelligent one. The only social ‘graces’ his family taught him were lying, bullying others, acting like he is entitled, and of course, taking advantage of the family name.
It STILL is all Clinton’s fault
plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose
doesn’t carter have something to do with it as well?
I would not surprise me in the least. (but I don’t have a link)
why is it that the economy does better during Democratic administrations?
edit:
It would …
My favorite cartoon of Reagan, as schoolboy siting at a schooldesk, telling teacher “But Carter sat here before and it is his fault” out of the Albuquerque Journal some decades ago.
Well let’s see, Romney got in trouble when the news came out that he had basically abused his dog by putting it in a carrier on top of the car.
He showed his “problem solving abilities” by hosing the car down after it got covered in dog sh*t when the dog displayed its displeasure with the treatment.
So yeah, I’d say Willard doing or saying anything to draw extra attention to dogs fits the embarrassing moment definition.
because we don’t steal middle class assets and give them to the rich
true
Well one reason is that the Dems actually have an interest in seeing that the poorest of the poor are helped a little, the infrastructure is worked on, money gets into the hands of the poor. And of course they raise revenues to pay for all of that. The goopers kiss the ass of tax cuts and therefor there is no money for gummint functions. QED
Agreed. BushCo brought this on, let them get full credit for it. Ain’t no shot a republican wins in November.
Does anyone know what this means in terms of mortgage interest rates?
Can I use this again (from prior thread)?
I remember when bush first took office, one of the very first things he said was;
“we are in a bubble so if the market crashes don’t blame me”
and of course, like the self sulfilling prophesy was intended to be, the market sold off the next day
Awkward turtle!
lol, cnbc pulled kramer into the pit
Bush campaigned in 2000 saying that the economy is not that good. He has gone on to prove that for most of us. However, Republics in power have thrived on the opportunities to plunder. Hopefully, they will now feel enough pain to actually participate in fixing the mess they created.
OT… i will scream this…EDWARDS MUST SAY…WHEN IS IT EVER HONORABLE TO BE A QUITTER!!!!!?…ok good morgan,i shall whisper the rest of the day
Why do voters fall for the “tax cuts fix everything” chant from the Republics every few years?
Probation has suggested Wilkes get 60 years!
This reminds me too of all those stupid furniture stores and the like who take advantage of any holiday for a fucking ’sale.’
I especially loved the moment when Mitt told the little ‘king & queen’ sitting in a convertible, “Thanks for coming today.”
OT evidently things have gotten bad at Digby’s pad.The comments are off…”a chill Pill” as Digby puts it.
you know, when tax cuts are targeted toward a particular industry that we need to develope or keep vialble, tax cuts will actually help the economy
that’s what repukes use to concince people ALL tax cuts are good
it’s a rediculous position but they are able to give their wealthy pals free money by pointing out the few succesful tax cut programs
their wealthy pals then give them a small percentage of the windfall back into the re election campaign and that is where we are today
5 min to bell
When’s the transcript for last night’s debate coming out. When?
Nixon looks like a constipated penguin.
Okay watching now during Reagan years: Obama: representing slumlandlord Rezko. Hillary: sitting on Walmart board.
I just noticed that. What happened?

mindless words

Good one.
Edwards: let me finish (on social security). Lord knows you let them go on forever. (pointing to Obama and HIllary)
I think it is an attack by the Obamazoids or the HDS’ers…I can’t think of anyone who is less deserving of an attack by any group.
Stock traders are looking like the Duke Brothers at the end of Trading Places.

I doubt anyone is fooled by it. Like the Global War on Terror, which doesn’t exist, the claimed efficacy of “tax-cuts for the rich,” is merely an excuse for helping the rich get richer at the expense of the non-rich. And everybody knows that.
So, why do some folks pretend to believe this nonsense? Some are paid to pretend to believe it, e.g., the mainstream financial reporters. Some are rich and want the tax cuts. Others are under the influence of the power of positive thinking: “I’m not poor; rather, I’m ‘not yet rich.’” These members of the unwealthy empathize with the wealthy whom they are sure they are going to join if governmental economic policies don’t steal all of their money. Many of the people are very young and avidly support Ron Paul.
The post where Digby talks of Rahm telling Bill Clinton to take a chill pill?
…market down over 450 and falling.
fed rate cut 3/4 point
Wolf says Alan Greenspan says we have to let the housing crisis “exhaust itself.” We’re merely prolonging the agony if we do something like Hillary suggested, a moratorium on foreclosures (is 90 days enough?)
You really and truly don’t want me to answer that; You won’t like the answer, and I won’t like giving it. Stop, think about your question, and use your critical analysis skills to answer yourself, we will both be better off.
At what point do they halt trading?
I think is has been building…every time she calls bullshit on misogyny or some other social/political stupidity she is called a shill or worse.
I think they halt all trading if it loses 10%. correct me if i’m wrong.
who’d trust his advice?
First time 10% drop.
I’m thinking Bush better keep his mouth shut today… everytime he speaks the Dow drops…
Dow opens & already has been down over 450. Nasdaq & S&P also plunging.

And to think Hunter S. Thompson put so much of himself into loathing the man.
That’s exactly what a friend remarked last night to me. Follow up remark by his wife- BushCo reaps the whirlwind, w/folks like us caught in the backdraft.
Incompetent. Shortsighted. Bastards.
Actually, IIRC, Hunter got along well with Nixon on a personal level. And Pat Buchanan as well. He enjoyed talking NFL football with them.
Hilary: voted for first failed bankruptcy bill. Regreted it.
By 2005 there was another run for bankruptcy reform motivated by credit card companies and big lenders. I opposed that bill *achem*. There was a particular amendment that I think was very telling. It was an amdmt to prohibit credit card companies from charging more than 30% interest. Sen. Obama voted for it. I voted against it. It was one of the biggest lobbyist victories.(?!?) Interesting piece on how Obama did bidding of insurance companies in Ill. legislature. She voted for limiting. Obama voted against (he said it was to high a ceiling.)
Edwards: to Obama so you voted against, so there’s no limit at all?
And likely drinking. Given what Hunter wrote about his own habits, and Kissinger about Nixon’s, you’ve got to think they shared a few adult beverages.
Yes. I recall a tale of him in a limo with Nixon, being surprised at how extensive Nixon’s knowledge of football was. But he still dedicated one of his books “To Richard Milhouse Nixon, who never let me down.”
Wolfie Blitzer does(?)
On the bright side, Oil is down $3.37.
The Big Dawg has been a bad bad boy…mixing metaphors but what the heck?
Someone needs to remind the lizard brains about Privatizing SS.
Maybe so and I don’t disagree. However, the man still controls very much of what you do and how you go about your day. Reminds me of the guy that you are driving behind on a two lane country road. He’s going sooo slooow and has a bumper sticker that says: “I may be slow, but I’m ahead of you”.
Edwards and Clinton taking Obama to task for voting present 100 times in Ill leg.. Obama says they weren’t of political consequence. (Edwards should ask him about Kyl/Lieberman.)
I remember that one well. I think it was from the ‘72 campaign but it may have been the ‘68 one. Forget where I read it but probably in Rolling Stone. Some of the greatest political writing of all time appeared in that magazine during the ‘72 campaign.
Or something like that.
What did he he do? I know he teed off Rahm and Ted Kennedy. Anything else?
Senate Hearing on the stimulus packages now on CSPAN 1 right now
Jump-Starting the Economy
Peter Orszag, Dir. of the Congres-
sional Budget Office, presents a CBO report on the need for stimulating the economy. He appears before the Sen. Finance Cmte., chaired by Sen. Max Baucus (D-MT). This is the first in a series of hearings on measures to kick-start the economy.
Is it stimulating?
why do you think THEY HAVE TO STEAL sooooooooooo much?
Bush pardons himself.
Thanks for the coffee on the monitor moment, but I think the LBJ and scar picture out does the LBJ and Beagle picture.

Alan “Bubbles” Greenspan!
I don’t know if I think that was high praise. Anyone who’s known George over the years could have predicted our present situation. His behavior has been consistent and constant, we can depend on it. He’s never let us down in that regard, and will continue to act true to form. Probably for the rest of his life, without a clue.
it’s not so they have more, it’s so we have less
Work!? …oh that! Yes, well I must be going. This conversation is so addictive, one can hardly keep one’s mouth shut… (or pen as it were…) (…keyboard?)
You know, at the very beginning of that vid, Mitt looks like he just finished taking a leak…just like his dog. Something about cars I supposed.
Two Mitt Romney types just rang my doorbell telling me about the stock market crash, showing me the bible, while telling me the answer is in it. I told them it was all their fault and closed the door.
