Just to be clear, I don’t have any brief for Edwards campaign. I think it’s clear his support is falling off now as the race becomes more and more a Clinton/Obama race. The result in Nevada must have been a sobering wake-up call. But I don’t see where insider know-it-alls get off saying he’s under some sort of obligation to ‘do the right thing’ and pack it in.
Julian Epstein just told all 5 of us watching MSNBC that "the honorable thing" for John Edwards to do would be to drop out if he does poorly in South Carolina.
Could anyone explain the details of this particular code of honor to me? I mean, there are certainly arguments that can be made for why John Edwards should drop out, but I have no idea how any of them include a concept of "honor."

I am announcing today that I am resigning from my position at Acme Publishing because I failed to empty the Flavia™ coffee-maker bin earlier today, despite being prompted to do so by the machine. This egregious failure of responsibility, this heinous act of nonfeasance, can only hinder my growth at the company and make it more difficult for my more popular fellow employees to enjoy their morning beverage.
Moreover, I will fall upon my sword tomorrow morning at dawn because I did not vacuum the living room as I had sincerely intended, thus breaching the unspoken code of behavior I owe to my wealthier neighbors who have the inalienable right to live their lives without having to endure the possible migration of dust mites that inhabit my apartment.
In addition, I plan to engage in an extended period of self-flagellation for my blatant presumptuousness when I unintentionally sabotaged the dry cleaners’ narrative. By forgetting my laundry ticket and asking him to look up my information on the computer, I needlessly introduced stress and uncertainty to his job, quite possibly foreshortening his life span by as much as 30 seconds. Such thoughtless, selfish behavior must not be allowed to stand.
Finally, as a "preemptive strike," I will sell off all of my worldly possessions and retire to a cave in the wilderness, where I will live out the rest of my life denied of any creature comforts or human companionship in order to prevent any of these horrible atrocities to happen ever again.
I humbly thank you for your time.

Harsh, WT, but the honorable thing to do.
But, isn’t it hard to live in a cave after falling on a sword?
They’re not in any particular order… ;-)
Watertiger!
A contested convention is not outside the realm of possibility. Even if he did finish third, he could have the swing delegates.
I’m not coming to any conclusions before Super Tuesday.
You’re going to be very busy before tomorrow’s dawn!
(Hi Suz)
Hey, Suzanne!
Laura, I drink a lot of coffee.
(waving back to laura d)
I like Edwards and I hope he does not drop out!
Watertiger, I think if you sell tickets to the self-flagellation, you can finance your next vacation.
Ah yes. That apparently has gotten you into trouble!
Coffee is far more important than vacuuming!
Heh.
That machine in my office makes the worst coffee. But hey, it’s free.
Where are similar calls in the MSM for Fred Thompson or Roody to pack it in? No problem in the Republican camp to advertise liberally (and for free on MSM stations) for all the Fascist candidates.
EPU: I wasn’t sure where to put this so I will probably put it here and as an EPU in the next thread. Re Obama’s “present” votes in the state legislature. Here is one explanation. Not saying it’s the truth:
http://blogs.chicagotribune.co…..ent-o.html
You and me, both Ms Spiffy ‘Puter. His presence seems to have an elevatin’ quality on the discourse, even though he apparently lacks honor.
These are the same people who wrote off McCain a little while back and are now sucking his ass. I’m not saying Edwards is gonna get in it. I’m just sayin’ fuck ‘em all. I love politics and I had to take a break from this. I just don’t get it. Why would it be “honorable”? So they don’t have to spend time covering the guy? They never did to begin with. He’s making the other candidates and the party better, in my view. No shame in that.
Anything is just about more important than vacuuming. Except ironing. And window washing.
Hi, WT, and all!
I agree that Edwards should not drop out. In fact, I think the honorable thing to do vis a vis his supporters is to stay in as long as possible, hopefully ending up with enough delegates to see to it that his supporters’ interests are represented in the general election Democratic platform. This assumes that he doesn’t somehow pull out a seemingly unlikely win.
IRON MY SHIRT!
Black I hope.
Edwards 08!
P.S. The honorable thing to do is boycott GE.
~
Not if it is only a flesh wound.
Ironing is important.
Suzanne, are you in a mood again?
“Finally, as a “preemptive strike,” I will sell off all of my worldly possessions and retire to a cave in the wilderness, where I will live out the rest of my life denied of any creature comforts or human companionship in order to prevent any of these horrible atrocities to happen ever again.” ~ Watertiger
Wow, Watertiger, you’re way too hahd on yourself! LOL
I was gonna say that! But I wanted to chweck to see if Suzanne was in a mood first.
Um … beware Suzanne’s whip … quickest draw in the west, our Suz … *g*
ya mean like this?
…and WTF does honor have to do with politics anyways?
Ditto, especially in terms of delegates. But if Edwards doesn’t beat either Obama or Hillary in South Carolina (where he’s sort of a native son) then all he’s gonna be able to do is act as a kingmaker. That might get some leverage on the platform, or perhaps a position in the cabinet (or as VP if he can stomach it). In my view the only thing stopping any of these candidates from getting a VP position is their own egos. If they put that aside and think about the good of the party and the nation, and are willing to devotedly fight the Republicans with all their essence…then they’d do it.
And the other one would certainly be a fine addition to a Cabinet, or a replacement for one of the ailing Supreme Court members. Imagine a Justice Obama, Edwards or Clinton on the Court! Imagine TWO of them! I can hear wingnut brains exploding at the mere whisper of such a possibility!
Watertiger can say it, bfl. you can’t.
Heck, what about the calls for members of the punditocracy to step down? When was the last time any of these guys were right about anything?
I thought the honorable thing to do for pudits and reporters when they blow calls like who will win in Iowa and New Hampshire was seppuku, not kabuki.
Well, there’s that…
Nowadays, WTF does honor have to do with [corporatist] journalism?
Fight on John Edwards, or I’ll kick you in the shins dammmit!!! Keep on keepin’ on!!!!!!!
Why should Edwards get out? He’s pushing the others to the left and talking about important issues. He did, by the way, collect about $300,000 last Friday from the toobz.
Really. Good point. What about his supporters? Including those people whose daughter was killed by the insurance company. People put alot af faith in Edwards. He owes them a hell of alot more than those assholes who never covered him. they piss me off to no end.
Dentiny has NY in it.
Watertiger, you got as much chance of my ironing your shirt as I do of getting a blow job.
Or queenmaker, right? I don’t think he’ll be able to have that much influence in terms of the number fo delegates he has. Which is exactly why he should stay in- try to keep ‘em honest now.
Detiny has NY.
The Edwards campaign is emailing tonight a letter from Martin Luther King III urging Edwards to stay in the fight. Stressing Edwards is the only one talking about economic justice.
I’ll bet the letter is on the website: johnedwards.com
Along with an opportunity to contribute to his continued campaign. Just sayin’….
ROFLMAO
… quick, clean up that keyboard ...
Googling Julian Epstien results in a log of references to him as a “Democratic Strategist”, a position I consider somewhat less essential to society than Tax Attorney.
i know how to iron. but not cause i am a girl.
That wasn’t a very nice thing to say. You couild have expressed that thought otherwise.
Destiny has GIANTS in it.
No shit. There are still stickers on the windows of my house that the installers left on during construction. A year and a half ago. Thing is, it would require me to get out the ladder, and move it around the house to get to each one and scrape it off. I keep hoping they’ll just fall off, but mostly I just forget they’re there.
FWIT I do not think Edwards should quit. He’s the closest thing to a progressive in this race, and it is still early. And the idiots who are saying this are not the highest ranked regarding reliability as far as I’m concerned.
BTW Hang Seng (China) is down 7.68%. The Nikkei (Japan) 3.63%. At the moment the Hang Seng is still heading south while the Nikkei appears to be rallying a little.
BUY!!!!
Think we will close below 11k?
Somewhere bin Laden is smiling.
you want nice? *snort*
Today’s mainstream journamalists–with few exceptions–are friends (or wish they were) with many of the political figures whose actions they are supposedly investigating and analyzing. They run around in the same social circles, go to the same parties, went to the same schools, and are from the same socioeconomic class, and have a common interest in maintaining the Beltway (and its New York City outpost) social status quo.
This is why Edwards is persona non gratis. If Hillary or Obama become president, there will not be any major interruptions or disruptions in the cocktail party circuit. They are part of the Beltway insiders crowd, and what their election will do to that social milieu is both predictable and mild. But if Edwards gets elected, who knows what will happen, what kind of unsavory characters will be at the parties (weird poor people?), will we even get invited!?
If the Chinese Gov’t are bailing out their bourses, it means there’s a long way for them to fall yet …
btw, watertiger, i completely forgot my manners. excellent post and the point you make tonight is important.
Edwards didn’t even break out of character to participate in the high school hissy fit. He’s a real pro!
I’ll bet Edwards could act like a president for at least 4 years. Dubya can’t make it 4 hours and Clinton & Obama only lasted about 9 months (being generous).
John Edwards for President — Leadership that will grow on you!
It’s just that I hate to see you sink to that level. You’re better than that. You’re able to express your views forcefully, indeed eloquently, without being a pottymouth.
That would be a little like cornering the market for ice cubes on the Titanic.
I can’t remember who it was who wrote a few weeks back that candidates only drop out when they run out of money (or foresee that they’re definitely going to), and never because of some calculation that they “can’t win.”
I certainly hope that’s true, and Edwards will stay in as long as we keep giving him money. *g*
… preview is my friend …
“are” should have been “aren’t”.
The code of honor in question is the rich pompous parasitic blowhard know-nothing celebrity media toady’s code of honor.
It is completely arbitrary, and is formed spontaneously as they spout it and act it out on the teevee.
Obviously it is hard to summarize, but generally it conforms to what a contemptable toady would do. Most people are not a contemptable toady so they might have a difficult time understanding it.
I have to admit – the more o and hill snipe at each other, the less i look at either of them as being ‘presidential’. edwards looks better and better.
Boo freakin hoo for them!Is it possible to pinpoint a time when the media went from investigators out to find the facts and stenographers looking to continue the status quo?
Something to monitor before our “tomorrow”..Owwwwwwch:
http://money.cnn.com/data/world_markets/index.html
It’s daytime in Asia and Europe. Nasty things are continuing to happen.
pottymouth? gee, that is a word right out of my fundy ex husband’s mouth. now, why would you want me to think of him every time i see a comment from you?
I dunno. No matter who gets elected, these people will suck up to ‘em. That’s what they do. But I guess you’re right. They’d prefer to just keep kissing familiar asses.
Bhutto said he was killed…but…we can’t even ask her now.
That’s a good question. When did that happen?
Destiny has NY in it.
I was being my usual sarcastic self.
I thought about it, but I dunno.
Destiny has NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS in it.
bfl, you gonna football whore your team all night?
I think institutional investors and hedge funds will try to put some brakes on, which is not to say that it might not get ugly.
Was it you who put up this link information about circuit breakers?
http://www.nyse.com/press/circuit_breakers.html
Got it, subtle is not you’re style, right? I am leaning towards the NY football Giants just cause Eli’s a local boy and they beat the team I wanted to win it all.
Me too.
Wow. How long did it take you to get that written? I’ve been watching it morph, thinking it was some kind of secret code.
Eagle eyes nice find:
The Edwards campaign is emailing tonight a letter from Martin Luther King III urging Edwards to stay in the fight. Stressing Edwards is the only one talking about economic justice.
I’ll bet the letter is on the website: johnedwards.com
Along with an opportunity to contribute to his continued campaign.
I love it, back at ya Epstein. I guess now John Edwards knows how badly
they want him out so some deals can go down, he’s got the rest of the states. It’s about getting the message out amd holding their feet to the issues. Nice work MLK III and Prairie Sunshine you can make hearts sing.
OT: Watch the stock market tomorrow
I though I was being subtle.
It’s a little weird for me and , I think, alot of Giants fans, being all gung-ho behind Eli after trashing him all year.
I might go back on sabbatical from the campaign until the Super Bowl is over. No Dem action here. Only fun is watching Rudy’s total and complete desperation.
I was looking at intial press coverage of the debate, and this Yahoo news item jumped out at me.
Canadian survives wilderness ordeal on rotting meat
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/200…..rvival_col
Brings to mind the ordeal of reading corporate press coverage of the primaries.
Poor guy was stuck under a jeep and ate the game had collected. Couldn’t cook it in piss or vinigar, which usually fixes it up so you don’t get sick. Wonder if there is a similar treatment for primary season?
Those are called fairweather fans. The Giants do not deserve to win. (Sorry Betsy.)
http://www.johnedwards.com/new…..0121-mlk3/
check out the front page hit piece on him in his hometown paper he is gonna wake up to. rudy is gonna be mad.
Rudy, going down like Larry Craig in a public restroom.
-G
This comment should come with its own brain bleach dispenser.
That’s not being a fair weather fan. The guy sucked all year. He’s still throwing into double coverage. I’ve been a Giants fan since the Tucker Frederickson – before Fran Tarkenton. We’re just demanding of our quraterbacks. Know what? They’re better for it. Ask Phil Simms. He was booed mercilessly from the day he got drafted until he got the Giants to the playoffs. I’cve been with them through good (not so often) and bad (much more often). Eli deserved all the abuse he took.
The media repeats the mantra that Rudy G. has ignored all of the primary states.
He dumped 2 million into NH.
How’s that ignoring?
-G
I have been getting a great amout of amusement from it. Don’t you just know Judy is throwing the crokery around on a daily basis? Bet she already had a tiara picked out for the inaugural. Any takers on how much longer that marraige will last?
A lot of our current problems could have been avoided if George Bush I and Barbara had had beds in different states. That would have been the honorable thing to do.
“My father was not driven by an illusory vision of a perfect society. He was driven by the certain knowledge that when people of good faith and strong principles commit to making things better, we can change hearts, we can change minds, and we can change lives.
So, I urge you: keep going. Ignore the pundits, who think this is a horserace, not a fight for justice. My dad was a fighter. As a friend and a believer in my father’s words that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere, I say to you: keep going. Keep fighting. My father would be proud.”
This whole push for Edwards (or anyone) to drop out of the race at this point seems to me to be a symptom of the ADD-aflicted media who just can’t wait for something to play itself out and who believe that they are entitled and justified in “calling the race” way ahead of time so that they can go on to the next big thing.
There is absolutely no reason for Edwards to drop out now or at any time prior to the convention if he has the money and desire to carry on.
In 1992, there were 4 candidates for the Democratic nomination. All four ran for quite some time (way longer than 2-3 weeks past the Iowa). Over the course of the primary campaign season, which ran from February into June, 2 of the candidates dropped out (Paul Tsongas & Bob Kerrey). Jerry Brown and Bill Clinton remained in the race all the way to the convention in spite of the fact that Clinton had a majority of delegates somewhat earlier in the spring.
But even after Clinton had achieved that majority, Jerry Brown won some states. During the pre-convention period, Jerry Brown was able to use his delegates to get some more-Progressive ideas into the Democratic platform that what would have been there if he had withdrawn or released his delegates earlier. At the convention, for at least the first vote, Jerry Brown’s delegates voted for him and had some say in the direction of the party.
The party wasn’t torn assunder, there was no civil war within the party, there was no damage done – what happened was that the electoral process was used to accomadate diverse members of the Democratic Party.
It’s a different campaign and a different world today. But somehow I just don’t think that Democrats should make their campaign decisions based on what media personalities and pundits want.
Personally, I think John Edwards adds a lot to the campaign, and I hope he stays in and continues to give voice to his ideas. I wish some others were still taking part.
Betcha there’s lots of tossing and turning amongst the Wall Street types tonight.
Not a lot of clear heads and sweet dreams going into tomorrow.
They’re walking into a buzzsaw in the AM.
-G
Uh, ok, if you say so. That is really too much football for me to think about right now. I need to sign off to get my beauty sleep.
Letter to Edwards.
OT…Has Obama taken a page from the Hucster’s playbook?
link
The only thing that surprised me about Rudy 9iu11ani’s political downfall is that I thought it would require a public freak out for the voters to see how scary he is. But the voters can put two and two together, so just a few facts about him coming out in the press did the trick. And his own megalomanaic themed campaign material. Endless WW-IV run by a creepy tempermental authoritarian type all the time all the where does not make a good campaing theme. Who woulda thunk?
I hope his downfall continues and accerlates.
Hope it gets picked up nationally. Those details I’d never heard before. But people from that area knew the guy was a nasty, petty, megalomaniacal prick long before this “America’s mayor” bullshit.
Norway is getting some capital other markets are losing…a progressive country. Is it a sign of the times?
I read the excerpt of the MLK III letter earlier today. It gave me goosebumps. Edwards still has my vote, even though Louisiana votes after Super Tuesday.
Link’s at 81, I think.
Good stuff.
Glenn hits the same topic:
Salon
I hope he winns in FL, gets that party’s race even more fucked up than it is and then he limps the rest of the way through the campaign after shooting his monetary load in FL.
So, Edwars should get out of the race because of some unknown code of honor?
So, the last debate is summed up by ‘Obama calls out Bill’?
Giuliani has not spent any resources in primary or caucus states yet?
McCain has never pandared.
Man, they are just saying stuff to fill in the air time and promote arbitrary story lines. I remember wating Second City TV reruns that had skits that consisted of media news pundits covering news events while getting drunk and bullshiting like dopey college kids or unemployed high school dropout barflies. I didn’ think it would come true.
Yahoo to lay off hundreds of workers
Bank of China taking a big hit on US subprime market.
back atcha, bigbrother…these are shaky times. We must stick together and demand better. Do better.
That *is* a rather lovely hit piece, isn’t it? Karma, baby!
That’s weird. We both used the same word – magalomaniacal – at the same time. Not one I use very often. But it fits like a glove.
I read Edwards topped one million on Friday.
Black Tuesday…
We cannot continue to do business like the neocons have been doing. We are getting the bill for tech, dot.com anfd housing bubbles that have put of the payment. The regulatory environment has to change no more lip service. The fat cats have to ante up now…under John Edwards leadership it will happen He has taken on big capital in the court rooms he knows the territory..that is crucial discipline but don’t kill the goose that pays the bills.
Hmmmmmm…well, they have a lot of oil off the coast, that is one thing. They are nationalistic enough not to have joined EU….the oil is most likely their trump card…just guessing. They are tenacious that is for sure. The problem for them is that the Russians are “casing out the joint” – Subs in the fjords for years…so to speak. They represent 4,000,000 people only… NYC has 11,000,000….and they are sitting on a shizzolla-load of oil..Go figure…
Nato??? That is pretty much their only hope. Staying out of EU seems to have had an effect on their currency…they are worth something…oil. Maybe not good for them in the longterm…I don’t know.
the candidates will start heavily addressing the economy when their contributions start to dry up of it
Edwards would I am sure follow this secret code of honor and withdraw. Unfortunately, no one sent him the secret decoder ring or taught him the secret kool kidz handshake so he is forced to follow his principles and stay in the race.
I want one debate moderator to ask Rudy one question:
Why should we believe you have what it takes to stand up to terrorists when you were too big of a scaredy-’fraid pussy to run against Hillary for the Senate seat she now holds?
We were both commenting on Rudy. Megalomaniac follows. Not so weird.
Rudy also brings this to mind.
Lately whenever I listen to Bush Jr, I think drugged up to the gills to keep him half-way functioning until his term is over. Cheney is scarier than Bush because Cheney can survey the damage and it gives him a natural high -he needs no meds to keep from losing it.
I think Giuliani would be a disastrous mixture of Bush and Cheney. He must lose in the primaries, anything else is too risky. I hope the GOP nominate one of the other losers. THe only candidate they could nominate that would not keep me up at night worrying would be McCain, and he would be more than bad enough.
If the press were honest they would go on a tear about McCains economic expertise: ‘I don’ know much about that economics, let the Fed straighten it out.’ Let us see if they do.
Well, that time again. Got work tomorrow. No more holidays until Good Friday. No wait. Presidents’ Day, right? Anyway, I gotta run. God Nite everybody. Lemme just whore the Football Giants one last time (today)
Destiny ain’t destiny without NY.
Meanwhile, the Bush Administration’s FDA is stalling on putting a new treatment on the market for chronic leukemia.
You’d think, in a sane world, they’d want to see treatments available to patients. But then this is Busharro world.
g’nite bfl
Maybe they think it’s like college, where if you withdraw from a course early enough, it doesn’t appear on your record. *g*
Agree about Rudy. Presidency now-with all the power it has accumulated and appropriated to itself in te last 7 years- just isn’t for a guy like him. But McCain is the only one of their guys I worry about. Don’t worry about Rudy. He’s history.
“WH Has No Comprehensive E-mail Archive”
http://www.washingtonpost.com/…..eheadlines
LOL
i’m adding it to the news ticker -thanks
And whatever they’re giving him, it makes him feel hungry all the time, because he can’t give a speech without talking about how eager he is for the next meal. It’s pretty weird.
I agree completely about Giuliani. I’ve always thought he was the most dangerous candidate in the race, and even having him be one of five “frontrunners” is too much of a risk.
How come John Edwards has to quit but Charles Krauthammer doesn’t?
How come John Edwards has to quit but Deborah Howell doesn’t?
How come John Edwards has to quit but Tim Russert doesn’t?
How come John Edwards has to quit but Chris Matthews doesn’t?
How come John Edwards has to quit but William The Bloody Kristol doesn’t?
How come John Edwards has to quit but Michael Gordon doesn’t?
How come John Edwards has to quit but Peggy Noonan doesn’t?
How come John Edwards has to quit but Fred Hiatt doesn’t?
How come John Edwards has to quit but David Broder doesn’t?
How come John Edwards has to quit but Richard Cohen doesn’t?
How come John Edwards has to quit but Robert Novak doesn’t?
Asshats all.
I noticed that. They are the only ones, it seems.
Oh, Hi, double-you-tee! Great post!~
i would rather boosh displace his lust for war with food.
hey teddy
You can tell John Edwards to stay in the race right here.
message sent, teddy
Thanks Teddy, I’ve sent him a message of support as well.
Blowjob isn’t pottymouth. Blowjob is high crimes and misdemeanors, impeachable offenses, and national security.
and it is pretty much a sure bet that i will not be on the receiving end of one.
I agree eleven times, Teddy.
Marcy has been covering this for a while. I read through the WaPo article. It didn’t seem to mention the “recycling” of the backup tapes so not only could emails be removed before a backup tape was made of them but the back up tapes themselves were not archived but re-used with the old information on them lost.
But illegal invasions, occupations, and outing CIA agents, not so much. Welcome to bizarro world!
Oh Teddy,
I’m with you.
Chris
Hang Seng down 8%, the Nikkei 5.39%. It’s 2:30PM in Tokyo and 1:30PM in Hong Kong.
Thanks for the link, Teddy. I sent him a note, too. Oh, and the reason for the how comes? Because they have no honor, of course!
(And I think Edwards staying in IS the honorable thing for him to do!)
Hey Margot!
Sent you a message on FB (I don’t really know how to respond to a poke).
Chris
As the markets make their corrects I wonder if they can erase Bush/Cheney.
Off to bed, good night all!
Me neither. I don’t really understand them. I keep thinking there is a
message that I am not getting.
Chris, Got it!
at what percentage do the asian markets put on the brakes or do they not have circuit breakers?
Speaking of appetites, I think Bill Clinton has to discipline his gastric appetites for fear of premature death, and his other appetites for fear of messing up his wife’s campaing. Managing both at the same time probably making him very very cranky.
Regarding the Mystery Code of Honor, they do want Edwards gone because as long as he is there, substance, and real world working class economics will be injected into the campaign, and that makes the media stars very uncomfortable. They wonder how to report it without making their billionaire bosses mad, or getting the plutocrat buddies on Nantucket (or the Hamptons or wherever those dowdy celebs hang out) pissed off.
Maybe there is a subtle psychological factor at work between the media and Edwards. Edwards is a true son of the poor working class white (trash) south who has really made it big on his own terms (spekaing professionally and financially). These celebrity media types like to think of themselves as Players on the par with the financial bigshots. But they are not Players they are toadies and low grade courtiers who would have no visible means of support were it not for their pompous newsy pundit showbiz skills. I thnk maybe Edwards needles them pyschologically somehow. Reminds them that in some important sense, they are really insigifnicant nobodies and contemptable fraudulant toadies rather than Players.
I’ve fallen in love with that description of the media pundits -toadies. I don’t know why, but it seems to fit them very well.
I think that is one of the best one’s I’ve heard yet….Busco Who?????
((((( Mary )))))
((((( Margot )))))
I don’t know what that poke is, but I’ve been on the pill as a precaution … *g*
g’nite madmommy
Arriving late, carrying my Rudy the vengeful link, to find the pups were “all over it.” I now understand why he liked opera so much. Just in case there are any latecomers, here it is again:
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01…..UWqaj3Mntw
Surely we all know someone in Florida who needs to know this. Even if they are true Blue Dems, they might meet a Republican at the pool or the Publix. This is something that people can get their minds around and sink their teeth into. It’s akin to office gossip.
Are they any more repub debates that are accepting audience questions?
Assuming he is toast, how do we make it so that the crumbling takes his business reputation with him? I can imagine that the vengefulness might actually be appreciated among those who like “The Apprentice,” but the wasted 2 million dollars for 0 delegates in NH would get you fired from the first casting call.
Who wants to bet the lady with the Vuitton bag dumps him after the nomination process is over? Any Vuitton bag siting in FL? In fact, have they put her back in the kennel from which she came?
Grateful for anything that keeps my mind off of the way the Democratic primary is playing out….
Seeing the three of them in the debate tonight, I say
1) Edwards
2) Clinton
3) Obama
so I think Edwards should stay in. Does he have the $$$ to continue? His being there makes the debate interesting. It is to the benefit of the American people that he stay in, for the effect of elevating the debate.
I think John Edwards understands that many Americans’ hopes and dreams are bound up in his quest in the same way the oil, drug, and pharma companies’ hopes and dreams are bound up the quests of his opponents. He understands that he’s accomplished something in this race and that he’s got more to accomplish.
I think he sent that letter out from MLK3 for a reason. To let us know he’s in for the long haul.
Bill Clinton didn’t win a primary until the eighth in his cycle, and his wife’s running for President now. So there.
A poke is like, Hi, I’m glad you’re you and you’re here.
The most telling sign for me is that the Chinese Gov’t aren’t stepping in yet …
a poke is a ‘i’m thinking of ya’ kinda thing. if you go to the f/b ‘home’ link at the top right of your f/b page, all your ‘pokes’ are listed on the right sidebar. you can poke back or delete the poke if you don’t want it.
Hi Suz I see you are in rare form… Hello to the other pups and be good to Suz…. you know why
Suzanne Malveaux mentioned — very briefly — that the CNN focus group thought Edwards the winner as well. But you won’t hear that again, I bet.
Well, poke me!
Tho’ you don’t see me, I hang out there a lot. *g*
Given the brouhaha over missing info from Clinton’s time, we should expect to see lots of outrage over shrubco’s, shouldn’t we?
*crickets*
all goes back up to my comment at 39
And tonight, again, we return to: You poke her, you brought her.
Watertiger, I will file this post somewhere for use as a template in my later endeavors, which are sure to make such a speech necessary …
Nice list, TSF.
How ’bout them Asian markets? Once again, those NYSE circuit breakers require a 1-hr halt for a 1350-point drop that occurs before 2pm, a 30-minute halt for one between 2 and 2:30, and an unimpeded stagger to the finish after 2:30. More at link.
What if the market rallies tomorrow? Fake out?? Could be. Stranger things have happened. Now that the rest of the world is in chaos…wouldn’t it be typical for our market to do the opposite…??? Just sayin’. I expect to see huge volatility, and we will see. Hang tough.
… that’s what I tell all the girls … *g*
Could be that he ends up “the one”. Could be.
I know I skimmed the thread and could see that you are… Hope all is well with you Suz!
Great post Watertiger, thanks.
Are there multiple circuit breakers? In other words, if there is a 1350 drop by 11am, and they resume at noon and there’s another 1350 drop by 1:30, is there another break?
I don’t know why I care, I just want to know the rules for what promises to be a very exciting day!
Give John Edwards some green love and:
HELP GET EDWARDS TO DENVER < (bumper sticker)</p>
(and along the way, keep working to wake up the American People)
wish i could stay around longer but the job beckons. keep on keepin’ on, y’all !
Hiya Boo!
Let’s ask Margot, she got my return poke.
I was able to back up the computer at the fucking Howard Johnson’s hotel i worked at in the 90’s yet we are supposed to believe the Whitehouse was incapable of storing information.
Can we start turning up the heat on this matter.
Hello Speaker Pelosi, is there anyone home?

enjoy working, fahrender (if that can be done)
yes ma’am …
On the Rethugvengeful front, here is a diary about a woman who was fired for asking Sen.Minority leader McConnell a question about the war in, according to him, a violent threatening manner, although the tape shows her doing so otherwise.
Another macaca (sp?) moment. A McMacaca moment. Any Kentuckyians present?

“Crickets from The White”
Its in the top ten.
Unfortunately, “incapable of….” seems to be this White House crew’s mantra.
Or else they want us to think so.
Hmmmmm….
lol, Petro!
nahant, tis 38 and i’ve gotten 1.26″ of rain so far today. snow around me (on the hills east and north) but nothing here. my lights keep flickering tho which is not a good sign.
Now that is pretty funny — you should check out Mr. CE’s site for the historic contraception collection at Dittrick Museum.
The outrage over Rose Law Firm!
I can’t take this anymore.

Hi guys, I missed the debate….looks like y’all had a good time!
Saying it would be the “honorable thing” to bow out of the race sounds like emotional blackmail to me. I want Edwards in it to win it! Maybe we should all start talking about how handsome and presidential he looks.
thanks, I told Edwards to stay in the race and chipped in some dough.
To be honest, not sure which one would make best candidate or president. All have their strong points. Hillary is least favorite because too hawkish and corporate and vague in a bad way. But she has reassured me somewhat except on Iraq issue.
Probably Obama’s wife would be best candidate, but I guess that is out for this cycle. Edwards is a very good influence in the Democratic primary so will send him some support.
Linky please …
Gag me.
A silver lining to this is that it’s one of the few things that might penetrate at least some of the denser skulls around here.
Teddy, there’s an intermediate round of cbs at 20 percent, or 2700, with a close if it happens after 2pm. If at any time there is a 30 percent or 4000-point drop, the market closes immediately.
It’s really never clear what the carryover from markets in one place to the next within a day will be, but after 2 days of crunch in Asia, and some known unknowns here that might be revealed at any time, there sure seems to be a lot of wariness here.

Comments please.
Chris
wow, i wish i go go see it
It is really something else, Suzanne. And the pride of my husband (oops, Mr. CE).
Top ten *already*? WOW!
i just don’t wanna know what that metal thumbtacky looking thing was for (shrudder)
Makes you glad to be not living then — and I thought an IUD was tough.
Low forties and rain is coming down … been off and on all day keeping the buck stoked well! Tucker doesn’t like the rain… earlier he wanted out to chase a squirrel got as far as the wet line and turned right around back in the house and in front of the buck stove and plunked his butt down… Takes after me… oh well.
i had to chase token out in the downpour earlier. he is a wuss even though he was wearing his manly blue sweater to keep his belly dry.
They should all be very proud of this … please congratulate Mr. CE and the others on my behalf.
All my guesses end in “Ouch”.
I am not sure when circuit breakers kick in on Asian markets. From what I could find googling the Nikkei has them on futures contracts but they are largely ineffective because the futures contracts are simultaneously traded in Singapore on the SIMEX. Trading in individual companies can be limited or suspended. I coudn’t find any rules on the Hang Seng.
all mine ended with ‘bet it was invented by a guy’
Um-hum! But the exhibit as a whole looks quite interesting.
Anyone else getting repeat of the last 11 comments?
bsrd, sometimes there is a glitch with refresh comments. a hard refresh of the entire page usually fixes it up
Oh thanks so much, I will. The collection has a new home, and we hope to really promote it in realia and the web.
Sometimes if you hit the new comments button more than once the comments repeat.
The stock market in Bombay plunged more than 2000 points, triggering a circuit breaker … shuts trading down for an hour.
fork
In the fresh thread comments over at Calculated Risk someone said Bombay (or Mumbai I guess) hit a circuit breaker, probably around 10 percent. Things seemed calm on the local finance tv network, and trading should have resumed about 30 minutes ago.
I mentioned this earlier but yesterday world markets lost something like a trillion dollars.
Great show coming on here in bay area on KQED “The Lobotomist”. An intriguing look at what the NY Times once dubbed “surgery of the soul—-the lobotomy…. Think George Bushco had one? Might explain a lot things about him:>(
Given the Neocon agenda Vs contraception, it is more important than ever to demonstrate that contraception has been prevalent in many civilizations throughout history.
Of course, I am assuming that they are interested in facts …
A-Ha! The famous Rope Trick:
From CR comments.
Our main index in Toronto lost almost $100 Billion yesterday.
Novak’s compelling evidence Operation Mockingbird existed.
Correction Hugh Not lost…(((ERASED)))
“Marcy has been covering this for a while. I read through the WaPo article. It didn’t seem to mention the “recycling” of the backup tapes so not only could emails be removed before a backup tape was made of them but the back up tapes themselves were not archived but re-used with the old information on them lost.”
Actually, wouldn’t it be more honorable for Hillary to drop out?
Bush/Clinton/Bush/Clinton……….. I think it was completely selfish for her run in the first place.
(but then you already knew that, huh :-) )
So, the honorable thing for Hillary to do now….. is drop out. There. Problem solved. We would the be freed from the bonds of serving the Imperial Dynasty and return to Democracy….. with honor :-)
If the NYSE drops 5% that is 600PTS
If the NYSE drops 10% that is 1200 PTS
It would be a shocker for sure to see that much after the adjustments so far this year. My bet is a slower steady down graph unless their is more bad subprime news for the investment banks. As more private capital withdraws to safer havens there is more demand on the global federal reserve windows to dump in capital. As big investment banks struggle to comply with their reserve requirements under pressure of mortgage debt increasing ..it is a lesson in why the S&L should have stayed separate institutions. CDO leveraged the debt which was then leveraged by lower real estate values. Tjes huge portfolios are capital sponges. That is why bush headed over to the oil money spigot last week to get reassurance for more oik flow and get more capital commitment. Might be wrong but don’t bet the farm on it.
In a letter to John Edwards:
Great praise indeed. John Edwards will not quit us. I won’t quit him.
I’m just a dumb Canadian watching your process and I am puzzled. Was it not the case that Gore was pressured to abandon the Florida fiasco based on honour (sorry, we not only see it differently, we spell it differently)? Was it not the case that Kerry was pressured to abandon the Ohio dispute because of honour. Now Edwards is being pushed to do the same. Seems to me that if the media and particularly the Republican media, wants to shut down Democrats, all they do is say 911, patriot, salute the flag or honour and Democrats fold. If your politics are the politics of ideas and not shallow celebrity to suit the media’s desire to write the script, then you need Edwards and Clinton and Obama need Edwards. Democratic ideas being kept in the limelight are making converts to those ideas such as universal health care and sane foreign policy. Why would Democrats want to see this debate and its command of the national stage tamed?
Very cleary put. Please post this all over blogland. I can’t be said enough…converts to progressive solu5tion for the 21st century. The machinery is old and broken and needs repair.
Well shit, the nattering nabobs of negativism have been ignoring him up until now.
Why don’t they just keep ignoring him if that’s their advice.
Freddy,
Great observation…. Canadians are great. As with your national sport, we can duke it out on the ice, blood and guts then, drink cold beer together after the game as hockey fans. This is something many PC compromised Americans will never get. Even Jefferson was well aware that in matters that effect people’s lives, civility, in certain instances has no place! The MSM brainwashes America. The American people do not set America’s agenda. Corporate America sets the agenda, via the boob tube, lobbiest and politicians Instilled needs by corporated design, just conditioned minds, for self-profit first and nation second!
Check put this link for a “reality check” with links concerning “Assachusetts” wonderful fraud called “mandated health insurance” “earmarked” to save the citizens while making them broke. Again no talk of the large number of “tax exempt” very profitable corporations, listed as not for profits.

I’m for HIllary, but John Edwards has a LOT to add to this race!! His voice is so important, and I hope he stays in through every debate and every primary. Who knows, he might just win it.
I much prefer John Edwards over Obama. Obama is a sweetheart, but when I see him stutter during debates, I think he’s too young to have the confidence or experience to run the country. And when I hear him talk about unifying the country, he just sounds a little too naive thinking that he’s capable of such a big task–especially when he himself claims he made a “bone-headed” mistake in the real estate deal with Rezko. Hillary exudes confidence and a “kick ass” attitude. And I don’t think John Edwards would take much BS from anyone either. Gosh darn, Obama is just too sweet and young!!
