Did Bill Kristol’s column really consist of a poem???? Good grief. I’d like to audition for Mr. Kristol’s job by submitting a poem that describes Mr. Kristol himself:

Casabianca

The boy stood on the burning deck
Whence all but he had fled;
The flame that lit the battle’s wreck
Shone round him o’er the dead.

Yet beautiful and bright he stood,
As born to rule the storm;
A creature of heroic blood,
A proud, though childlike form.

The flames roll’d on…he would not go
Without his father’s word;
That father, faint in death below,
His voice no longer heard.

He call’d aloud…”Say, father, say

The way to defeat McCain, should he be the Republican nominee, is to point out that the economy is tanking partially because of the clusterf*ck in Iraq, that Iraq wiped out the Clinton surplus, which could now be used to help ordinary Americans and that John McCain wants U.S. troops to remain in Iraq for the next 100 years. Ask your Republican friends this simple question: Why is it okay to flush a trillion dollars down the sewer in Iraq, but a mortal sin to spend a dime helping American citizens?
