For John McCain to begin explaining his economic plans for the recession coming at the American economy like a freight train.
After all, other than having both fists in with Operation Clusterf**k and the eternal love of the beltway media, Ol’ Johnny has virtually no other tangible plan he can enunciate. His one domestic achievement, opposing some of Bush’s tax cuts is hardly going to win him any love with the base. It was, after all, less to do with policy than exacting some small, meaningless, revenge on Bush for the way he ran his 2000 campaign. After that it was nothing but the loving.
When asked to discuss economic policy McCain has stated:
“The issue of economics is not something I’ve understood as well as I should,” he said. But, “I’ve got Greenspan’s book,” he assured the audience.
I think we’re all relieved now right?
Has he read "Atlas Shrugged" yet?
How does Mr. Straight Talk plan on addressing the economy?
Douglas Holtz-Eakin, McCain’s top economic adviser, said his approach is to simply let someone else deal with the problems affecting working Americans. “The best course of action is to let the Fed handle it.”
Great, and he’ll let St. Petraeus handle his foreign policy.
Awesome, he’s morphed into Bush already.
UPDATE: Bill Kristol’s third column for the New York Times is about McCain and Peggy Noonan should sue for plagiarism. For a more offensive and surly take on this, see my profanity-laced normal blog.

365 days remaining.
morning!
Joy, St. McNovaCain is the anesthetic!
That is a beautiful thing.
Mornin’, gang -
We’re now officially in count-down mode; maybe the day number will become the new “zed”.
What’s happenin’ in your worlds?
I’m guessing there’ll be some terrorist alert around election time that’ll help him against either Clinton or Obama.
In the meantime, I hope we get answers from all the candidates on their economic policies. A recession is such a grave fear for so many Americans, if not most. I honestly don’t even want to think how bad it’s going to get even if we have a president that does an astounding job in spite of inevitable right-wing opposition.
365!
late DING!
For those of us d’un certain age who grew up with the Kingston Trio, John Stewart has died at 68:

RIP – there’s lots of singing in the hereafter.
Sounds good – return Greenspan to the Fed and elevate the Beatified General to Sec of Defense. Pottery Barn precedents practically mandate it.
Wonder what McCainucil thinks of this:
[whistle!]
They’re none too happy so far in Europe today, either, indexes at Bloomberg down over 3%.
From Steven Landsburg, economics professor at the University of Rochester:
And one wonders why his “NYT Column Supporting Free Trade Draws Sharp Criticism”. s/

Good morning pups!
Bloomberg probably meeting with his new consultants as we speak.
“You’re a sooooooooooo awesome Mike. That’ll be $55,000. $155,000 if you want a focus group to say you’re awesome.”
Shrub’s Third Term
what an appealing message.
John McCain the next Bob Dole
maybe he can get Liddy to be his vp
yo
So you mention Samantha Power last thread. This ep article titled There Is No “War on Terror” also mentions her. I just started the article but it is good so far.
from your link:
Good point – the unemployed will have time to engage in artistic, academic and intellectual pursuits..
Good morning, pups. It’s AWATT, Cohen and Krugman in the NYT today. Bill “Always Wrong, All The Time” Kristol says one might call John McCain a neo-Victorian — rigid, self-righteous and moralizing, but (or rather and) manly, courageous and principled. He left out bad tempered and aged. Mr. Cohen says that US soldiers and shoppers have hit the wall, and he wonders if the United States is losing control of its destiny. Mr. Krugman helps debunk the Reagan myth, and says that how we talk about the Reagan era still matters immensely for American politics.

The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and the biscuits are out of the oven. It’s Monday, but there are only 365 days of W left. Have a great day.
As they slowly starve/freeze to death….other than that, sounds like a good plan. s/
And maybe sell the primitive crafts they create to the rest of the world for enough rials to buy gruel…
Naw, they can sell them to the millionaires hiding in their gated communities.
No, wait……..a lot of *them* are in the process of losing the home behind the gate. Well, there’s goes another plan.
All right people, one year to go.
This year is our last chance to impeach these clowns. This is our last year to show once and for all that the abuses of this regime will not be allowed to stand.
Will our next president be innaugerated with the power to declare you an enemy combatant and strip away all of your legal rights?
Will the next president be allowed to wiretap every American?
Is torture to remain our newest American ideal, placed right next to baseball and apple pie?
Unless we remove this criminal regime, the answer to each question is yes.
One year left…
So the RACIST Pat Buchannan has officially proclaimed that Obama is now Jesse Jackson, of course on Joe Skankborough this morning there was no one to rebutt his claims, which he stated as fact. I thought you would all like to read what someone on the ground actually witnessed in Nevada

Looking at the silver lining, the newly homeless millionaires will now have the opportunity to be flexible and compete for the service jobs.
Well, as someone pointed out in the threads recently (can’t remember who, sorry) when the gatekeeper leaves the gate open because he’s sick of protecting them…
Elliott, if you’re around -
Assume you will be putting up the Washington Journal schedule shortly but have you noticed in the last few days how they seem to have gone to fewer guests in one-hour slots? Heard a caller recently take them to task about that very thing and how s/he had tracked the increased number of callers when guests were able to be there longer. Don’t know if it’s any kind of permanent change but interesting…
Hi!
here’s the listing Waccamaw, can’t say about the guest schedule but now that you mention it, I’ll be paying attention to it. And thanks for the biscuits and the Marion take on the NYT editorials, Marion.
it’s 11 freezin’ degrees here!
here’s what is on
Washington Journal
After newspapers and viewer calls, we hear from Amaad Rivera of United For a Fair Economy, who describes the impact of the subprime mortgage crisis on African-American communities. Then Marian Werber Serafini of National Journal explains the health care proposals of the Presidential Candidates.
7am – Newspaper Articles & Viewer Calls
7:30am – Amaad Rivera, United for a Fair Economy, Co-Author, “Foreclosed” Report
8:30am – Marilyn Werber Serafini, National Journal, Staff Correspondent
9:30am – Newspaper Articles & Viewer Calls
I’m trying to get my thoughts around the idea of John McCain as the Republican candidate but then I feel that way about all the Republican candidates. It is so hard for me to believe that after two terms of the raging success that is George W. Bush, the Republicans haven’t all left that Gross Old Party.
Morning all. Missed yesterday’ threads due to heaving duty hanging out with the EW crowd. So hope this does not repeat
Curious, Marion, if Obama’s speech in GA got any notice from the GA papers.
I am not 0bama 08 all the time, but am someone who welcomes anything that will focus the campaign on progressive values, including opposition to anti-Semitism and homophobia.
There has been skepticism about BO’s rhetorical style heard here at the lake, and wondered what the reactions would be. I
here is a link to the entire 45 minute speech at Ebeneezer Baptist Church:

I’ll be in lurking mode as a deadline looms. Bye for a while.
Good morning Attaturk and all the fine American Patiriots .
Went to a pot luck dinner for ART LANDIUS last night a man who shames me after we (over 75 people) heard Dr. Martin Luther KINGS riverside speech we learned about the school of the america’s and their so called hall of fame.
Art who was drug into the public eye last night quietly works for peace and was arrested for trespassing at the school last November. The last 23 people brought up on these charges have been sentenced to over 91 years total prison time. The dinner was to raise funds to defray Art,s travel expenses to Georgia to stand trial and he’s no spring chicken. Rise up / Work for peace now ….www.peacecoalition.org….do something today.
I understand Huckabee and Big Dog are speaking at Ebenezer today. That should be interesting.
Will try to register to vote today.
For anyone interested, I found this on digg:
“There’s a protest against the clusterbomb manufacturer, Lockheed-Martin, at their offices in Bethesda Maryland today at noon. Peace out to all human-rights advocates here on digg.com, y.cakewalk”
MD, Bethesda: Protest War at Lockheed Martin – “No Profit from Death”

Huckabee at Ebenezer?
Oh, that Confederate flag thing should go over big.
Well, kudos to him for having the guts.
Maybe McCain would put Tommy Franks back in charge…so he can further profiteer off the blood and death of the soldiers under his command. Don’t have the link, but the offensive charity scandal shows once again the total corruption of this outfit and their brethren.
Listened to the entirety of the Martin Luther King speech this morning on the Imus show, segued into a bit of Dylan’s Blowin’ in the Wind…
Let freedom ring… Jan 20, 2009.
oh the mccain folks have plans for us allright. They got planss….just like the shrub folks had plans for us. They have a plan
You got that right!
NPR just now said King Day events in ATL, didn’t mention Ebenezer. That was my understanding of the venue, but could be mistaken.
Huck knows the language, betcha he’ll do fine, as will Bill.
The three men I,a white male, admire most;
Jesus,
Gandhi and
Martin Luther King
They changed History without a gun or cluster bombs
Little George, not so much
The way to defeat McCain, should he be the Republican nominee, is to point out that the economy is tanking partially because of the clusterf*ck in Iraq, that Iraq wiped out the Clinton surplus, which could now be used to help ordinary Americans and that John McCain wants U.S. troops to remain in Iraq for the next 100 years. Ask your Republican friends this simple question: Why is it okay to flush a trillion dollars down the sewer in Iraq, but a mortal sin to spend a dime helping American citizens?
Did Bill Kristol’s column really consist of a poem???? Good grief. I’d like to audition for Mr. Kristol’s job by submitting a poem that describes Mr. Kristol himself:
Irving would be proud.
Beggin’ to differ, but the image with your piece clearly demonstrates McCain’s economic policy. The hand you don’t see is picking Bush’s pocket— or coppin’ a feel… Nevermind, it’s probably the latter.
@33 Martin Luther King’s Riverside Church speech is where King turned against the illegal, immoral, unconstitutional Vietnam war and urged all to engage in civil disobedience to stop the slaughter.
http://www.peacecoalition.org
I just want him to keep bragging about how much he supports the war, and about what a success it now is. :o)
BTW, Ataturk; hang onto that photo. If McCain manages to get the nomination, that will get as much mileage, if not more, than the shot of Joe Lieberman smooching bush.
(Are you listening, Hillary? :o) )
And; I sure wish someone would ask Hillary if Joe Lieberman is on or off her list of potential cabinet appointees. (smile and wink…:o) )
