South Carolina, 97% of precincts reporting, per CNN:
McCain 33%
Huckabee 30%
Thompson 16%
Romney 15%
Ron Paul 4%
Rudy Giuliani 2%
Nobody told Fred Thompson he’s dead. He gave an endless and rambling speech of a quality you’d expect at an Elks Lodge pancake breakfast, and now says he’s on to Florida — where Joe Lieberman is stumping for McCain.
Holy Joe is telling Florida voters that St. John the Divine thinks heaven is filled with Jews praying. Since the Democrats have agreed not to campaign in Florida, no wonder Hillary Clinton is saying lovely things about him — nobody wants that bitter, vindictive little man torpedoing them there. Which he most certainly could and would.
And speaking of Lieberman, why didn’t he sign this letter condemning Muslim smears against Obama? And for that matter, why didn’t Feinstein and Schumer?
eRiposte says Nevada results "are being used by the media to sow the seeds of division amongst Democrats." Thank you, Andrea Mitchell.

JANE – fabulous post!
Fred has served his purpose: siphoning talibangelical votes from Hucklebee, ensuring McCain’s unlikely SCarolina victory. Thanks, Fred. Watch Old Lord McCain pay Fred’s debts now.
The press wouldn’t try to do that, would they?
A few minutes ago they said (on MSNBC) that they expect Fred to withdraw by Monday.
i love the way you spelled out ghouliani’s name – touche jane
I’ll be happier when Rudy withdraws.
Fred Thompson says reports of his life are greatly exaggerated.
-G
Have I mentioned that I detest the Greenspans.
Can’t believe I am leaping to Feinstein and Schumer’s defense here, but perhaps this sentence was key to some signatories? (my bold)
Dianne has endorsed Hillary. Hasn’t Chuck as well?
It is hard to describe the sense of relief in the media at the McCain victory.
-G
Excellet point about Lieberman, Feinstein and Schumer, Jane! Very interesting, indeed.
Now I’m rooting for Romney. IMHO, McCain would be the repubs most formidable candidate.
The word “moist” springs to mind.
from eRiposte: Can I just say how much I deeply detest the frauds on TV, the ones like Andrea Mitchell – among many others?
Can I just say that since the primary season has begun, I detest Mrs. Greenspan even more than the other frauds?
from last week – Mrs. Greenspan hissed – “Well, I guess she (HRC) is now the leader of these people“.
Solid, unbiased reporting from Mrs. Greenspan, as usual (though she’s
raisedlowered her game since having been assigned to the Clinton campaign).Good point, but, no matter which candidate they are supporting, shouldn’t they all have signed the letter?
That gave me a nose full of rice last post.
IRT to Mrs. Greenspan, it was also reported here that she gave Hillary a ‘compliment’. She said her voice wasn’t too grating.
KO knocks out Tweety. What you askin bout Stem Cells for?
Hat tip to Ron Paul for beating Rudy again – no surprise.
In actuality after RayGun McCain the Edwards 4 percent is the story; union and all but that zero penetration (well 1 in 20). Cover the Media assasination or go flip mode and find out Tweetys snake salesman theory is corrct, he was rejected!. I hope he stays in and gets a second or so in SC. Just another 1 of 50 US.
I just did a digg on this post and urge everyone to do the same. Oh how I hope & pray Rudy’s campaign staff read this. Oh wait – a simple email should do the magic.
Back to McCain. Was he getting emotional during that speech? Did I detect some tearing up?
Americans oppose the surge but John McCain supported the brilliant Petraeus strategy that is sooooooooooooooooooo wonderful.
I mean John McCain may hold the GOP convention in Baghdad.
-G
I’m off to bed. Way too early to be saying that but my poor strained eyes need a rest.
Hat tip to Ron Paul for beating Rudy again – no surprise.
How’d my (old white) man “Uncommitted’ do?
I think Teddy SF @ 8 is right. Sounds right to me.
Great idea actually.
A collective media chubby has been sprung.
Along with some moisture too.
-G
McCain can stroll through the streets of Baghdad wearing nothing but a banana hammock and a smile.
I’m just saying that perhaps the unaffiliated Jewish Senators got together to sign a letter, without asking those who support a candidate. Did Feinstein and Schumer have an opportunity to sign?
(can’t believe I’m defending her….)
This may be OT…and it may have been addressed in a previous post. My concern is the increasingly visible role that Bill Clinton is playing in the Democratic primaries. Is it appropriate for the titular head of the Democratic Party to be leading the efforts to discredit the candidacy of Barack Obama? This morning Bill Clinton and Gary McAuliffe barged into one of the caucuses and proceeded to urge attendees to vote for his wife. How would we feel if Jimmy Carter teamed up with Obama and proceeded to lead a campaign to discredit Hillary Clinton?
A collective media chubby has been sprung.
that sounds pretty non-threatening…
Keep laughing at Mc Cain.
Is McCain’s wife a)alot younger than him b)just well-preserved? or
c)everybody alot younger than McCain? Or A & B? Or B & C? All of these? None of these?
Former Governor Beasley tells Cuppa Joe that Thompson “dogged” Huckabee all over SCarolina, and was the reason Huck lost. Sez Huck made up a 15 point deficit in a week.
Perhaps a McCain/Al Sadr unity ticket.
-G
2nd wife.
Pass. He’s the goods, Raven. We need us a nominee. A real one.
Maybe, but I think this sort of thing looks very bad when they do not sign on, or issue their own comparable statement – something like the Jewish leaders did recently. Their silence, when others have stepped up, says, in essence that they see nothing wrong with the emails.
With whom he adultered his first wife.
Cindy Lou Hensley McCain (born Cindy Lou Hensley p. 1954
who’s laughing? ole mac has just become the front-runner
Keep laughing at Mc Cain.
well, *I’m* not laughing – he scares the hell outta me…
I gonna keep laughing at everybody.
McCain already says the Straight Talk Express is going to the gates of hell after Bin Laden.
All aboard.
-G
Bill is also looking increasingly over-the-top, like someone who can blow up at any moment for any issue – not the sort of spouse model people want to see in there. Remember how John Kerry’s wife was treated – like she would say anything, and hence was dangerous?
Is that like, “We teh These People”…
Did anyone point out that her husband was in charge of the economics of the friggin’ entire universe, forever, until recently, and now the country is on the brink of economic disaster???? No… just more wienies and martinis, I’m sure. Path”friggin”etic…
Spit!
Keep laughing at Mc Cain.
I will. Him and all the Republicants.
That’s a real bar to office isn’t it? Find me a Vietnam Vet who isn’t divorced.
The horror of it all!
KO knocks out Tweety. What you askin bout Stem Cells for?
Hat tip to Ron Paul for beating Rudy again – no surprise.
Ooops, also have to say I only have seen a few minutes and not the Dem speeches (and all is focused on trying to crown a R establishment candidate – so I only saw Tweety coronate RayGun McCain and say he is gonna call Nancy Regean tomorrow for any endorsement (Thus KO commenting on Stem Cell policy stance).
So I also heard KO note that Obama investment in teleprompter was worth every bit. Will watch later as possible.
How much $ did Edwards raise on Friday if anyone knows off-hand.
Also any trends for Clinton to beat out Obama rural, or split union, or just fairly steady throughout? I did not learn the Nevada caucus so wont yet understand it anyway.
Okay, altogether now, one…two…three-DUH! Isn’t that one of the few things that are totally predictable about our press corp these days? Isn’t that one of the last and only things that they’re good for?
Wife #2 is considerably younger then McCain. He divorced his wife who faithfully prayed and waited for him to come home safely from his prison camp in north Vietman and he dumped her rather unceremoniously soon after his return home.
Good question, though it looks like the Obama campaign generated the letter and I have a hard time believing they wouldn’t ask.
Though I suppose it’s possible they wouldn’t want Lieberman’s help.
Jam on bro, my point is that he may seem funny to all us geniuses here at the Lake but his rah rah bullshit will move plenty of the unwashed masses.
I’m not understanding that. If Huckleberry made up 15 points in a week, Fred’s dogging him didn’t hurt, did it? I mean, 15 points in a week is pretty good, no?
Maybe the letter was generated today, and Lieberman couldn’t sign.
So, that would be A & C, right?
It was a week for the Hukster, but for Frederick of Hollywood, it was just weak.
Really
By 1964 he was in a relationship with Carol Shepp, a model originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; they had known each other at Annapolis and she had married one of his classmates, but then divorced.[14][17] On July 3, 1965, McCain married Shepp in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.[13] McCain adopted her two children Doug and Andy,[19] who were five and three years old at the time;[
Wonder what happened to HER 1st hubby?
People often have other people sign for them. I bet since this is a three day week-end, that many are not in D.C.
zactly. he worries me. i can still laugh at ‘em all. but he worries me. the rest, i think are losers.
obama’s jewish supporters i think will s l o w l y pull away from him….. and i don’t think for 1 moment he’ll pull a win in So Carolina..the bloom has gone from that rose
Ding
I just had an image of Hillary Barack and McCain singing in harmony to Lieberman I Just Want To Be Loved By You.
Rachel wants to know what the pubs hate Mc Cain so much?
ahhh – the 2 bright lights on misnbc… rachel maddow and KO;o}
McCain doesn’t scare me. The fact that the press just luuuurvs him, scares me.
Of course it will.
Never overestimate the intelligence of many Americans, especially in these days of Foxification.
But McCain is going to end up ruing the day that he cheered for “a bajillion years in Baghdad”.
That place is back to slow boil, with Al Sadr talking about a possible end to the ceasefire…..Also the Sunnis are going to start putting the screws to the Iraqi government and the US for more and more.
The media aint gonna be able to paste over that shit.
Not to mention the economy in full collapse.
None of the old tricks worked in 2006…from the taunts about the evil liberal San Francisco Pelosi to the out and out threats that a Democratic election would be an actual vote for terrorists and that there would be terrorist attacks.
Also, don’t forget that a non-veteran Clinton walked away with the race against a wounded WWII vet.
But I aint underestimating McCain, it’s just that things are going to be all over the map.
-G
Not only that, wife #2 was from a family that was rich and politically connected and could help launch his political career.
Under those circumstances though, isn’t it kinda crummy to release a letter knowing some people who may have signed didn’t get an opportunity to do so? I don’t think that’s it. I think it’s that part Teddy SF pointed out – the signatories are people who haven’t made endorsements.
wifey #2 has lots of beer distributor money
Also, don’t forget that a non-veteran Clinton walked away with the race against a wounded WWII vet.
Agreed but he was an incumbent who had stepped upon his pecker.
Actually, I see it the other way around. But, time will tell.
According to MSNBC’s tally, Ron Paul has for delegates to Giuliani’s one. This makes me grin.
Feingold, Kennedy and just not goosestepping in proper fashion with the authoritarian cultists. He obediently caves at opportune moments, though.
I’m thinking that I may have to root for JoeLie’s V.P. candidacy now. Unless that’s somehow a plus for McCain that I can’t see…
Who, what?
-G
All I was saying was that the inability to have an actual signature doesn’t cut it. They probably called around, see who they could get to sign on with them, and then went with that group. But, who knows.
I would imagine the unaffiliated Senate Democrats talk amongst themselves quite often. Not having publicly declared a choice must put particular pressure on them all, and daily.
immigration stuff, mostly, i think. but i also think alot of them are warming up to him because the rest are losers in the general.
Oh. OK. Bottom line, you’re right, is who knows? Maybe somebody will actually ask Schumer about it.
Remember, you are not going to be able to assualt the character of a republican for the same kind of stuff you can a democrat. That goes for swiftboating and heiress wives.
Oh words cannot express my white-hot hatred for this Noonan person.
Fight it out, gettin late for this ol dawg.
And that will mount, once the senate gets back into session. “Gee, you want my help with that bill? An endorsement would go a long way toward helping me get behind you . . .”
Of course, that works both ways: “I’d love to endorse you, but I’m hard at work on getting this bill passed. Of course, if you decided to get behind the bill and help me out, I might be able to lend my name to your campaign efforts.”
Wheels within wheels.
wifey #2 has lots of beer distributor money
yep, it’s true – all the good ones are taken…
Disgusting Peggy Noonan is a crabby sack of shit.
-G
Night Raven.
New news on Sibel Edmonds case here.
-G
My bottom line is: if it was the right thing to do, Schumer, Di Fi and Lieberlier COULD/SHOULD also write a letter to that effect. Otherwise to me it looks like they are saying, the email attack on Obama being circulated among Jewish voters is fine. Indeed they could get very huffy, and go after the others saying, you should have included us, how unfair you were, we support it too, but you assumed we would not.
ole mac got a lil taste of swift-boating in this silly season – they said he colaborrated with the veetcong doncha know….
night raven
In response to TeddySanFran @ 76

Maybe even within wheels. So…if this letter originated with the Obama campaign, as someone mentioned above, does it make some sort of sense that those (nominally) Jewish senators that have endorsed someone else might not get asked to sigh on? Or even excluded so that they’ll look bad and reflect some of that on their endorsee?
BTW, Is DiFi actually Jewish? I thought Feinstein was her married name?
Evil minds want to know…
FunnyDiva
Alot there. All of it right. When you start handin’ out money like we are in Iraq, sombody will always put the screws to you eventualy. How the admin could even call that a “strategy” is beyond me. it didn’t work In Afghanistan when scumbag bin Laden was cornered in Tora Bora. Why would they do it again? It’s the part about not underestimating how ignernt alot of Americans can be. Can’t understimate McCain. The rest of them? I think my estimation of ‘em all is correct – losers.
wiki
She is actually Jewish, yes, although Feinstein is the name of her second husband, who is deceased. Dianne Goldman Berman Feinstein is now married to war-profiteer Richard Blum.
As soon as Novakula named Brewster Jennings, I knew it wasn’t retribution for Joe’s yellowcake expose. But I always thought it was so they could lie us into the next war, with Iran.
Sure hope this gets legs.
She is equally hideous with the sound on or off.
Well, it’ll be billed as “bipartisan” or maybe even “tripartisan,” who knows!
Small wonder he’d have to announce withdrawal.
How else would one know?
Somebody must tell these also-rans that they have a chance of being elected and that destiny calls them. To his credit, Fred Thompson acted like he never believed it. Everyone now sees that there never was any untapped support for Fred.
I never could see Rudy. People who vote in primaries take the trouble to run their emotional preferences through their rational brain. Rudy didn’t register emotionally, it turns out. The number of people who actually like Rudy is quite small. And if you had the idea he has moral stature, well … fuhgeddaboutit !
Will Fred hang on to be somebody’s VP? It’s a no-show job – he’d like it. I don’t see Rudy as anybody’s second in command. He’s so egotistical he fired his chief of police for getting headlines.
“Holy Joe is telling Florida voters that St. John the Divine thinks heaven is filled with Jews praying.” I did notice that Holy Joe wasn’t on stage during Juan’s victory speech……..and who says this isn’t an ethnic race?
Frankly, at this point I really don’t care. Once Senator Russ Feingold gave his best to blow up the only Progressive candidate in the field there is little to worry about. A Progressive has little chance in the first place. Why would one turn against another? It’s like a Democrat race baiting another.
what a wacky world we’re living in. I blame Dubya.
I wouldn’t bet on it. I think they’ve mostly drunk the Coolade and wouldn’t care if he killed someone publicly.
Of course, those are the PhDs and all the cool kids, so they couldn’t possibly be wrong…could they?
I wonder, if someone has been a member of that cult, where would they go if they left it. Would they become like the ex-drunk who rails against drinking or the ex-smoker who campaigns against cigarettes?
Clearly they are looking for hope, optimism and great rhetoric. I guess that leaves out Hillary. Maybe they’ll go for Huckabee. Heh.
