We in this house are of a mind that the priority is to beat the GOP.
Now they’ve got HRC at 53
and Obama at 44.
Nevada Democratic Party website
http://www.nvdems08.com/
With 47% reporting, Hillary 50% Obama 44% Edwards 5%
We in our house are of the same mind. Regards to Lahoma.
FPUd: How are you going to cook the cats? Fileted, dredged in corn meal, pan-fried?
CNN numbers seem painfully behind the actual totals…
Jeralyn says Obama has left Las Vegas for Chicago…
I’m guessing he figures he lost…
who likes Bloomberg?
Although Romney won, Ron Paul tied with McCain for second, both at 12%
http://www.nvgopcaucus.com/results
The caucus is not a fair vote in my opinion.
Im really going to have a problem voting for Clinton.
Someone tell me why she would be good for our country
So why does Obama and Edwards still win in EVERY head-to-head poll out there against the possible Repube knobs? Hillary still loses the most in the head-to-heads.
Why do people argue that Hillary is the most “electable?”
Votes should be in private. I don’t like the caucus idea.
I’m not going there.
It’s obvious that Edwards supporters went to one of the others.
Someone’s second choice vote is choosing who my president is going to be, and I have no say in it as a citizen.
CNN exit polls didn’t poll the Strip, so they are way off.
i cant think of anyway….she cant even BAKE COOKIES
Isnt it really who the DNC wants not us. Wonder what info they have
I gather the anti-caucus folks have never participated in a good ole town meeting … soemthing I miss from NH. That to me is real democracy.
it’s another word for impeachment will be on the table.
not only can’t she bake cookies, she’s far too short to be president…
With 66% reporting, Hillary 50% Obama 45%
Hmmm…outside of using his middle name, how does this differ from anything Bill&Hill have been saying constantly for the last two weeks?
http://tpmelectioncentral.com/….._obama.php
I think town hall meetings are great. I just think a voter should be able to vote and the vote stand. Whoever gets the most votes, wins. That is democracy to me.
I guess the only question can be. Will she pick more liberal Supreme judges.
I want GOOD FAITH BAKED GOODS for the coming depression
She’d better, with a D Senate and a D House. Why would she have a need to play to conservatives? OH yeah, there is the getting ready for the second term election . . .
CNN just called it for Clinton
CNN calls Nevada for Hillary
yes! Faith baked cookies! but, sadly… she’s short and is blonde and cannot bake… definitely not presidential material there…
;-)
You’re confusing open debate and dialog, which is great, with open voting, which is awful, IMHO. There the overbearing husbands, bosses, etc. can make sure people vote a certain way. And why can’t I vote for a certain person on the ballot just because enough other people aren’t also voting the same way? That’s not democratic.
CBS calls Nevada for Hillary
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories…..1581.shtml
A ton of Clark County just reported and it has pretty much cemented Hillary’s lead. Still some in Washoie out that may help Obama. But I think Hillary’s got the win, if not the massive amount of delegates needed to make it a “strong win”. Don’t want to spin this too much, but in a State where there are so few African-Americans this is a good showing for Obama. It suggests that he can draw a good number of Hispanic and white Democrats.
Any one care to compare the numbers vs. the Republicans? Seems like a ton more Democratic voters than Repugs (yet again in any contested Primary).
now you’ve gone an dunnit, staturely challenged is not PC is it?
I am very disappointed. I was hoping John Edwards would win
The whole point may be to defeat the rethugs, but who really thinks that Clinton or Obama will be a breath of fresh air? They are both DLC types that will take us to the same place that the rethugs want to go; it will just be a slower trip. Just look at their records in the Senate, look at who is funding them, and look at their advisors. I am not a real Edwards backer, but he, more than the other two, is a chance for change. The real change is Kucinich, but he can’t get any ink or air time.
John Edwards had a very bad day and I’m sad…
think about Shrub’s third term
at Town Meeting you vote by raising your hand … your neighbors and friends and family and all see how you vote and hear what you argue …. very public and often very contentious … and energizing
Any one care to compare the numbers vs. the Republicans? Seems like a ton more Democratic voters than Repugs (yet again in any contested Primary).
Has anyone seen an estimate of actual vote count on the Dem side? I think the Dems only officially report delegate numbers.
Impeach Hillary
My only hope is that Clinton Hires Edwards to be the new attorney General and she takes it to the bushco’s vast right wing conspiracy. On this point she has been vindicated in my eyes…We need to prosecute the thugs who have been operating illegally within our gov’t since Nixon…My hope is that she has the venom to do it.
im gettin nervous as in if HRC wins …..another VERY CLOSE general inNov
The Clintons get 300 votes ahead of Obama and that is a victory!
your neighbors and friends and family and all see how you vote and hear what you argue
Yes. And wife beaters see how their wives vote. And bosses see how their employees vote. That would be just great for unions!
Are you defending the 15% qualifying rule that limits how I could vote at a caucus?
Something keeps picking at me…Why is Bill Clinton so pissed off about the Obama campaign? Why? It doesn’t seem rational to me, but that is because I don’t know what is behind it….but there is definitely something there, because Bubba doesn’t lose his cool, which is why he was always so successful…at least has hasn’t until this race. I dunno.
and then ya go off together and have a beer and talk about the warrant issues that got voted up or down and how the snow-plow jobs will be this winter.
And if she wins DC is back to the DLC and the Dean revolution is entirely OVER.
Has anyone heard a cogent explanation as to Edwards poor showing today?
Thanks Dakine .. glad someone else knows how it goes!
Siun, you are so right on this one. I’ve participated in a few caucuses and there really is nothing like actually standing up in front of your neighbors and letting them know what you think. It’s participatory democracy at its roots. Secret ballots are for general elections.
CBS calls Nevada for Hillary< .i>
With about 350 votes separating them at the moment.
What utter bullshit that the votes of maybe 10,000 people can carry such weight.
Why in the world would the networks be calling this race with less than 400 votes separating the candidates?
Supreme Court Justices.
(for one)
Cheryl and I just got back from our precinct caucus.
The disorganization, man, wow. These people need to get a clue.
Yep. :}) I lived in small town NH a couple of different times and my sister has lived up there for 35 years now.
So if there is really dirty stuff on Obama and it comes out…what then.
Hillary will rev up all Repugs who have been drooling about running against her.
http://www.dailykos.com/story/…..879/439500
I agree, no attention is being paid to Kucinich, little more is being paid to Edwards. I’ll just have to keep contributing to both, though, if only to help keep Edwards at least in the debates, and hopefuly force the other two to address some progressive issues.
Yeah, but everyone knows Obama worships Reagan and won’t really manage the government.
It’s been all over the media.
Thats impeach Hilliary…. by extension you don’t want to see bush impeached??
One year we had the very best scandal …. the town snow plow driver was arrested for DUI in the plow midday …
since town meeting is mid-winter, this led to considerable discussion.
When people get a chance to speak up, we all win I think
With Edwards at about 4% right now – can he move his few hundred votes?
The BBC has a good presentation about the major economic problem facing the candidates
Hillary hearts Lieberman. How on earth anyone can allow themselves to believe she intends to do anything other than embrace this criminal cabal is beyond me.
since impeaching bush isn’t an option i’ll settle for hillary.
SHE KICKED HIS A-S-S!!!!! I guess next time the Union Boses really ought to check with the rank and file about who to endorse huh?
Looks like the media BLACKOUT on news of Edwards is working for them. i am extremely sad.
I liked it when I found out that the (elected) sheriff enjoyed certain green leafy substances.
okk and I are disappointed. kiddo is cleaning fish.
lahoma
You mean there aren’t enough Republicans to Impeach? Why Impeach someone on our side??
You know, fuck voting for whoever the Dem nominee is. I’ve been getting so disgusted with the Clinton campaign in the last two weeks, especially Bill’s rants and flat-out lies, that I’m not sure I can bear to see them in the White House again. Seriously. It probably won’t matter because anyway because she would likely lose in the General.
We can put all efforts to Blue America and seriously stack Congress with More and Better. Then, down the road, we can get an actual Democrat in the White House since the pendulum will have swung far enough by that point. We’ve made progress, but the fact that Hillary is winning anything, and that their dirty campaigning seems to be working on some of the sheeple, shows we’re just getting started.
If the Clinton Machine does win, how long before Bill “The Doughy Pants-off” Clinton has another affair? I ask this seriously since when I worked for a campaign against him in the 1992 primaries, we had all these reports about his affairs as Gov, and how he would embarrass the DemocratIC Party and everything we stood for. Sho’ nuff!!! (we chose not to stoop low in our campaigning, unfortunately the Clintons and the DLC-led DNC did take the low road)
Obama has openly chastised the DLC and Pox News. Hillary has been President of the DLC, appears on Pox Newz, and takes a lot of money from Ruturd Murdoch and friends. I still think Obama is walking a tightrope walk while campaigning he has to walk given his skin color and lack of name recognition. His life’s work proves that he’s a pretty Liberal guy.
I’m not willing to gamble on Hillary because she MIGHT appoint a somewhat Liberal judge. Even if she does, she’ll destroy everything else.
OK…take breath…there’s time still. I better go…
ooooh … bet that was quite a time!
Corn meal, salt and black pepper. Deep fried.
lahoma
Sure the blackout is working. I’ve supported/donated to Edwards from the beginning. He’s my 1st choice, Hillary my 2nd. I really don’t want Obama. Not at all. So who do I vote for in my primary? ‘Waste’ it on Edwards and maybe let Obama win or forget Edwards and vote Hillary.
Of course, this is all hypothetical. I’m from NY.
Let’s just say we didn’t worry too much while he was in office.
One possible explanation for the low Edwards numbers in Nevada
apparently in the Nevada caucus there is no second choice
so in places where he was marginal I’ve heard he suggested people go with obama
Welcome to my world, brother.
if impeaching a democrat is what it takes to challenge the unitary executive theory, i’m all for it.
Yum! Enjoy. Side dishes?
Oh boy! Cue the Clinton Comeback storylines again! She’s such an Underdog!
hotlineblog.nationaljournal.com/archives/2008/01/clinton_camp_gi.html
They literally just make shit up. Constantly.
http://hotlineblog.nationaljou…..mp_gi.html
OK I will bite, what charges?
Edwards came to my town last night, but I missed him. Both of my daughters were in, one had my new grandbaby with her. One of my daughters lives in Las Vegas, so she missed the Caucus.
beats me. i’m sure it won’t take long for republicans to come up with something.
Now we get to watch Matthews salivate at the prospect of his 9-month wet dream coming true.
PANTSUIT! CACKLE! KNOBGATE! CLEAVAGE! CRYING!
I can’t wait.
How odd that everything the media says about Obama is false
but everything the media says about Clinton is true
You don’t think he is the slightest bit chastened?
Nevada has a viability threshold. If enough people don’t show up to vote for your candidate, you can’t vote for him/her.
I thought so. Lets get all the RNC for destroying all those White House e-mails!
I don’t think the word “chastened” is in his vocabulary.
Apparently, the exit polls are suggesting Hillary did much better than Obama with Hispanics. Anyone have an explanation for this?
Cool little tidbit:
http://www.lasvegassun.com/blo…../republic/
Is the threshold level 15%, like Iowa?
Latest has McCain leading Huck in SC. Romney is way back
Who did they vote for?
I believe that is the standard threshold across the entire Democratic Party.
Huh? It is odd though that most things the Clintons and their highest ranking campaign staffers say turns out to be false. Strange, or more of the same?
fuckery??
I don’t know. The Las Vegas Sun says, “If the candidate group does not meet the threshold to win at least one delegate…”
The Republican caucus in that state has private votes.
Delores Huerta, a hero for many Hispanics in America, works for Hillary’s campaign. Huerta has been very active, and just like the Hill&Bill, she been very negative about Obama. Huerta has a lot of sway.
Who would be more likely to bring a reluctant, disengaged base out to vote?
I wonder….
great big WAG and gross generalization… the Hispanic Dems I know tend to like Bill and I would classify as more conservative Dems… I think Obama is perceived to be more liberal in spite of his admiration for Raygun.
Why are the results shown as ‘votes’ for the repubs and ‘delegates’ for the dems?
http://talkingpointsmemo.com/
that is fine by me. Still doesn’t challenge the Unitary Executive and the DLC/DCCC is equally culpable in the executive overreach, imho.
I’m watching my man clean fish, and as usual he wants to talk politics. He says he’s going to hedge his bets and say just about anything is possible. If elected HRC could prove to be a great president. I reminded kiddo, the opposite could also happen. He responded he couldn’t argue with that, and that we’ll just have to see. I am unable for obvious reasons to prove him wrong on that point. We both agree it would be wonderful to shove Senator Clinton down the throats of Bush, Cheney, Rove and the rest.
we need to start a club anyone but Hillary
Unfortunately, the Dems don’t release actual voter counts, but the number of delegates won.
I’d love to see the vote counts to compare them directly to the Rethugs.
Hi, Lahoma! I suspect that of all the candidates, she bears the deepest personal antipathy to the Republican Party muckety-mucks, after what they did to Bill and her when he was President.
Nevada caucus toals for the Democratic caucas are about 12,0000 who cares>Hillary had the entire State Democratic Party with her and so much for the culinary workers
At least one county, Horris, in South Carolina, has had massive Electronic Voting Machine failure. I am shocked and I will be probably be more shocked when the Democrats try to vote next week.
http://www.bradblog.com/?p=5579
Per her votes to date in the Senate, she is the GOP.
they are releasing totals with 80% about 9,000
Katherine,
Re: “I am very disappointed. I was hoping John Edwards would win”
That’s quite interesting. If I can take you at your word, then I have to say that of the three viable choices we had going into this thing, I’m with you. I much prefer Kucinich’s honest record to the gulf between Edward’s rhetoric and record, but I do like Edward’s rhetoric.
From my previous acquaintance with your writing, I sure wouldn’t have guessed you for a populist upstart. (smiles) I’m delighting into my new insight into KGC. So unlike your namesake:
“We live in a dirty and dangerous world. There are some things the general public does not need to know and shouldn’t. I believe democracy flourishes when the government can take legitimate steps to keep its secrets, and when the press can decide whether to print what it knows.” — Katharine Graham at a 1988 speech at CIA headquarters
If either HRC or Obama is our party’s nominees, kiddo and I will drag each other kicking and screaming to the polls. We are certain that John Edwards and his wife belong in the White House come next January.
L.
The caucuses are as inaccurate as the moronic voting machines that are being used in the majority of counties in the majority of states. The primary schedule is assinine as well.
A lot of people were excluded from the Nevada caucuses because they were held on Saturday.
An EPUed comment about Edwards you might find of interest.
Pete – that’s simply not true.
I have to agree with lahoma. As much as I don’t particularly want to vote for her it is pleasant to think of cramming Hillary down the Repubs’ throats and watching them choke on her.
Unlike Clinton.
Those are delegate counts, not the number of people who voted. Bit of news from the Las Vegas Sun:
http://www.lasvegassun.com/blo…..ds-100000/
Women made the difference in the Nevada caucuses
the economy is the issue
OT: Off Topic
Hi Pete, I tried out the AVS software and it seems to solve my DVD stutter issues. Thanks for the suggestion. :)
So then, if it comes down to Mittie, Rudy or Johnny vs. HRC, you will vote Republican? Or not vote?
Great quotes Ray but as far as John Edwards is concerned There aren’t enough voters in the mills left and the Congress is not a courtroom unfortunately
Unfortunately, the Dems don’t release actual voter counts, but the number of delegates won.
I’d love to see the vote counts to compare them directly to the Rethugs.
I’m pretty sure I heard David Shuster say that there *is* a paper trial in Nevada, and that raw vote totals should be available later.
Per her votes to date in the Senate, she is the GOP.
That’s just not true. Look, I’m an Edwards supporter at this point, but this wild Clinton-hate is just not rational. She’s a very good senator, and she supports the key values of the Democratic party. She’s quite a bit more conservative than I am, but that’s true of most national politicians.
If she wins the nomination, I will certainly support and vote for her. A vote for Mitt or Huck would be nuts.
If she rounded them all up and threw them in Guantanamo, I would laugh my head off.
Apologies to anyone who finds such vengeful vindictiveness troubling.
If you love Iraq, you’ll love Hillary because she’s going to continue to help kill other people’s children but not her precious in Iraq.
Help me with the concept. Clinton is mirroring Bush on every major vote and for that matter so are most Dems in the House and Senate.
She won’t be in the Senate when Reid rams through Telcom/Comco Immunity, but plenty of Dems are voting with Bush to help Reid ram it though in the Senate.
Lawbreaking telecoms still conniving to obtain immunity from Congress and the majority of Complicit Democrats
It would be megaultrabajillionuts!
Provided they have to choke on her and that they don’t eat her for breakfast and stick us with 4 or 8 more years of Rethug rule. I’m not optimistic.
I would find its absence a sign that you just aren’t paying attention. One can only imagine the dark thoughts she has for the Repub mover/shakers.
how come edwards got so little?
Hilariously, Cheney said that he wanted to build up the presidency for future generations. I doubt a President Hillary Clinton is what he had in mind.
______________
Seriously though, I honestly think that if she’s the nominee it’d be a plus that she’s so hated simply b/c the left won’t cut her any slack. With Obama, the man gets away with praising Reagan and worse! Obama doesn’t need us–at all–since he has a movement behind him. That immense popularity with (non-partisan) Dems, Indies and Repubs, and his right-wing rhetoric means nothing but trouble. This is why I honestly think Clinton is be more vulnerable to pressure from the left than Obama. I still don’t like it though, but after today my hopes of an Edwards resurgence are gone.
How can you be for fundamental change is you threaten your supporters saying if you don’t win this time…you won’t run again?
Hi Old Coastie,
Re: Clinton’s voting record —
Voted for AUMF, voted for PATRIOT Act, voted for Military Commissions Act, voted for all imperialism funding requests, voted for all support for the illegal occupation of Palestine.
What part of Hillary votes for the Bush Agenda don’t you see?
If you think Hillary is genuine, I have a bridge in Minnesota you can purchase for a song. This lady has too much baggage and I suggest you look more closely at her record. Just more of the same-she is in the club.
I suspect that of all the candidates, she bears the deepest personal antipathy to the Republican Party muckety-mucks, after what they did to Bill and her when he was President.
Yup. I figure she’s pretty likely to kick ass and take names. I’m all for it. No more Kumbayah.
and it hurts
I don’t know, but it is disappointing…
I put that in there because the last time I said it I was told off for being mean.
Imagine.
107 thousand people participated in the Nevada Democratic caucus
In this house we will do whatever we can to defeat the Republicans next November. Lahoma and i are in agreement on this. We are Edwards supporters. Nevertheless, if our candidate is not in the game we will not vote GOP and we will not stay home on election day.
I honestly believed the man could pull it off. My hope is that Clinton (or Obama) will have him at the top of their list for AG. This man needs to be on the cabinet. He’s too good for us pass him up. America needs him!
For the record, I’d just like to say that I don’t care who Bill Clinton sticks his penis into or what parts he sticks it into- or who sticks their penis into Hillary- OR ANY OF THE OTHER CANDIDATES.
Here are the obvious options next November on election day: Vote Democratic, vote Republican, do a “write in”. Or don’t vote at all.
Re:
If Hillary is elected in November, you should expect Bill to travel arm-in-arm with Poppy Bush and signal to the world that their twin aristocratic dynasties are marching in lockstep for the New American Imperium.
TMI!
I wonder where he was coming from with the Reagon ( ill advised ) comment. I believe he was addressing it in terms of elevating positivity with the American people disgusted with similar economic situations that we face today
and in the wake of a ” Malaise. ” with the Iran hostage situation. He is not scripted buit maybe should be and he MOST certainly is not right wing.
glad you got that off your chest :/
What you’re calling “wild Clinton hate” on my part has nothing to do with Hillary Girl being a girl; and it has nothing to do with irrational hate. She is one of the most disigenous two-faced, hypocritical politicians in the history of civilization, and her voting record is horrendous.
I would never be crazy enough to vote for any of the pathetic Rethug candidates. But I’m not sure I can vote for Hillary Girl in the general. I know too much about her duplicity and her inflated and gradiose idea that she has more experience than Edwards or Obama based on absolutely nothing.
The arrogance in stripping away my basic rights, destroying emails on the RNC and White House servers and the backups (or hiding them), the signing statements and the imperious disregard for any group but the very rich by this Administration is reprehenixble.
The S. Ct. just took two more employee rights cases Friday, and there are a slew of ‘em and you’re about to see Roberts and Alito shut employees down writ large.
Voting Record Clinton
Hillary is Ms. Big Corporation Contributors
Lahoma is fixing supper. I’m going upstairs to call our daughter in Cali. You folks are doing a good job of hashing things out.
He is still a good man and should be respectable in S.C. but his involvement is helping Hillary.
Jerome Armstrong has posted that Obama left NV and will not be giving a “concession” speech. If that is true, it is not good for him or the Party..I hope he is not acting pissed off..we really need to win the WH with any of the Dem candidates.
(disclaimer: generalization to follow and no way means to imply FDLers fall into this generalization)
I’m beginning to think we’re going to need another election cycle or two. There still are too many “boomers” out there who know “better” and constantly lecture us youngins on how “things work.” They say that’s just the way it is, and always has been.
This is the generation that helped bring us the “Me” generation, along with their parents. They sat idly by through the 90s as a supposed Democrat was selling out our country (NAFTA, Telecommunications Act, etc), doing very little for Civil and Human Rights, and allowing multi-billion dollar companies to continue to set up P.O. boxes in nearby islands to avoid paying ANY tax, while small business startups pay incredible tax rates comparatively.
This is the generation that has allowed a rogue band of fascists take over the Constitution and scare us into submission.
This is a generation that has allowed America’s voting integrity become a joke, and still to this very moment, pay little to no attention to this issue, which is perhaps the most important issue of our time.
I understand…people don’t like to change their ways and admit mistakes. It’s human nature, especially as people get older. However, we need some new thinking and new blood to become the main voting bloc of America, and demand real change.
Just like the “boomers” did in the 1960s. Look how much was accomplished then. Hopefully the next generations will realize that those attitudes need to be for life, and not just in one’s youth.
The arrogance in stripping away my basic rights, destroying emails on the RNC and White House servers and the backups (or hiding them), the signing statements and the imperious disregard for any group but the very rich by this Administration is not only reprehenixble(*g* I like the sound of that; it’s egregious and reprehensible as well.
Ray, I can’t find the source this second, but, IIRC, Clinton rates about the 90th percentile as a liberal… she has failed mightily on many counts, but the overall isn’t bad…
I’ve supported Edwards but his voting record is significantly more dismal than hers…
Oh PUUUUHLEAZE. I frankly don’t care if women, WILLING, CONSENSUAL women line up, slip on their ex Presidential knee pads and play the Star Spangled banner on his skin flute! So go vote for Nader or Ron Paul or LaRouche or whoever floats your boat. Jeebus Crispies somma the folks really spend to much time memorizing the repugnantklan talking points about the Clinton’s. Waddaya gonna bring up Vince Foster next? Seven years, combined taxpayer and wingnut money of about 100million dollars, the ENTIRE investigatory apparatus of the Federal Government misused to crawl up the Clinton’s BUTTS and what did they find? HE GOT A BLOW JOB from a woman who unlike so many of the repugnantklaners MALE heartthrobs was of LEGAL age to consent to play the Presidential flute!!! THAT’S IT!!! And you’re wailing and gnashing yer TEETH! To quote someone you apparently have HDS in common with “Boo-FREAKIN-Hoo!”
Boomers have been voting
the generation that gave us Shrub are the young people who did not vote
Not all of us my friend.
Ray,
I used this
http://www.techcrunch.com/get-youtube-movie/
along with some media player that I can’t remember now. Or find.
Please see responce to bonkers@71
And didn’t bother to come back to support Dodd’s filibuster — nor did Obama. That just made me disgusted with their lip service to the Constitution.
I dunno. Is that “skin-flute” playin’ in the Huckabee Bible Constitution–lol–the move right out of the Taliban Playbook to use religion to foreclose basic rights?
If you think Hillary is genuine, I have a bridge in Minnesota you can purchase for a song. This lady has too much baggage and I suggest you look more closely at her record. Just more of the same-she is in the club.
I don’t select my candidates based on “genuineness” whatever that really means. As far as I can tell, she’s a live human being. Her positions on government functions are far, far closer to mine than those of any republican. She is emotionally strong, she has a good moral compass (takes her promises seriously), and she has a pragmatic streak that I like.
Like I said, I intend to support and vote for whoever the party nominates. I’d like that to be John Edwards — hell, really I’d like it to be Al Gore — but neither of those things is going to happen. So I’m not going to get caught up in the Clinton-Obama war. It’s too destructive of the party’s efforts in November.
It is not that he got a b.J. It is where he got it. Get out of the peoples house anf get a hotel room and don’t shake that nasty finger at me.
Your house and our house are in agreement. The people inside the houses agree too.
I wouldn’t either, except what he chooses to do with it can diminish everything we’re trying to accomplish as Democrats. As Monica was pulling down that zipper, it’s a shame Bill couldn’t muster up enough “courage” to say, “Hey, this isn’t a good idea.” Seems to me you might realize what kind of impact that would have on the millions of Democrats that were counting on you.
Gore’s campaign was tainted with Clinton’s infidelity. This did more to hurt Gore’s chances than Lieberman or Nader ever could.
Bill should just get some cushy corporate job, make more millions, and he ccould screw around all he wants, with no effect on what we’re trying to do as the DemocratIC Party.
It is unfortunate but id we do not get a change in the White House we won’t have a Constitution
I agree. At 42, it’s quite gratifying to be a “Young ‘Un.”
If the economy crashes…what then?
Pete, the use of “Hillary Girl” needs to stop. The mods will remove any future comments using that term.
Wow. And I got chastised for describing someone’s comments as “nonsense” earlier.
I hope we still have a constitution a year from tomorrow.
Well…didn’t we have a good economy during the Clintons or am I misremembering? It wasn’t under Mitt, that’s for sure…and if the economy crashes, it happened under the Repubs watch, and because of the Repub’s policies….
I believe that there should be a blow job incentive plan for the president- if he manages to keep us prosperous and avoids dumb ass wars, he should get as many blow jobs as he wants- and I don’t care WHERE he gets em. Same for female presidents.
The Blue Hairs Have It!
CNN Entrance Polls
Democratic vote by Gender
Female: 59% — Male: 41%
Democratic vote by Age
18-29…13%
30-44…19%
45-59…32%
60+……36%
Nevada caucuses reflect the typical pattern of youthful indifference to the political process. I’m quite struck by the 20% disparity between women/men attending the caucuses. Could Obama have been done in by the Saturday sports schedule?
From the Edwards campaign
Thank you! On behalf of John and Elizabeth Edwards and our entire campaign, I want to thank everyone who made a contribution on Friday, January 18th. In particular, I want to thank all those from the netroots community for rallying to our side at a time when we need it most. Thanks to you, we received several thousand contributions on Friday – and more than half of those contributions were from folks who had never before made a donation to our campaign.
As a result of your support, Friday was one of the best online fundraising days ever for our campaign. And, importantly, the great majority of those contributions will be eligible for matching funds, doubling the impact of your extraordinary effort.
We appreciate every contribution and every contributor to our campaign. We know many of those who have given to this campaign do so because they see that John is fighting for them – for their families and for the American dream we hold close to our hearts. Thank you for continuing to stand with John, and for helping to get out his message of bold, transformational change.
That’s an intriguing rationalization….
I would like to celebrate my 66th birthday with a Democratic swearing in ceremony.
Bill Clinton wasn’t the first President to get a blow job in his office, and he won’t be the last. Get over it.
I spoke on the phone with her reps during the telecom votes and her rep stated that Hillary would be voting against immunity. Her rep then referred to her public statements about no immunity for the telecoms!!
Why do you all tell lies? Did you make phone calls that day??
Also, just to let you know the Obama team just said they would pass it on to Obama.
Yes, I know. In fact, I get inspiration from the boomers out there still fighting the good fight. I’ve just gotten tired of Those Who Know Better always lecturing me on how “things work” as the world crumbles around us. We need drastic action. It’s getting desparate.
I have kids now, and I want them to have a good world and country to grow up in.
More and Better!
…and they will back pedal and stall until it crashes during a Dem administration and the pumps are already primed to blame it all on dem.
Paving the way for President Little Brown George in 2016. And Chelsea in 2024.
I think Rampant egomaniac is the phrase coming to my mind. HRC has to know that a lot of young black people who’s votes she’s gonna need are really pissed at the Clinton’s sending out their old guard Negros to assault Obama.
cinnamonape if you’re still around … left a response from the last thread @ 164, or click here
107 thousand people participated in the Nevada Democratic caucus
Apparently 114,000 now. So what are the numbers on the Republican side? The “vote” counts on the R side seem to be too low. Are those delegate counts as well?
Ouch! Jane Fonda says that Hillary is a “ventriloquist for the patriarchy with a skirt and a vagina. It may be that a feminist, progressive man would do better in the White House.”
Ah yes. That’s just the way life is, isn’t it.
My wife will never have to worry about infidelity. I promised her. Seems pretty simple to me.
They aren’t going to be back next week when Immunity gets included either. It’s unavoidable. The egotistical House members and Senate members of the individual states that compressed this primary season made damn sure of that. Want an example? Debbie Dingle and Carl Levin in Michigan moved the primary ahead. Other primaries jockeyed to get to the front of Super Tuesday. They don’t have a minute to breath on the campaign trail now.
Ms.Molly both Obama and Clinton issued statements against Immunity. A few points though.
Neigher of them is coming back for the floor vote–they’re in a tight race to win on Super Tuesday and to get Edwards’ delegates.
Does S. 2248 mean something to you? If so, you must be a might disappointed lady because:
If you ignore immunity–it’s still a bill to shred your rights. The remainder of the bill–read it cedes entire control of what is illegal wiretapping to the DNI McConnell and DOJ Mukasey.
Please read this month’s New Yorker article on McConnell. He is determined to make it legal to read all your emails, archive them, and archive your phone calls and matrix them.
As to Immunity: Here’s the skinny molly. Your Democratic Majority Leader Reid and scores of complicit Democrats met including Leahy on about December 18. They decided to bring the Jello Jay Rockerfeller bill to the floor with Immunity intact.
60 Votes 60 Votes 60 Votes. Did I mention this thing resolves around 60 votes? That’s a 3/4 majority of the Senate.
It takes 60 votes to invoke cloture or stop the fillibuster. Those votes are available in spades from the Ditto Head Republicans and the Complicit Democrats.
It takes 60 votes to add an amendment stripping Immunity to the S. 2248 version now on the Senate floor. Dodd, Kennedy, and Feingold don’t have those votes due to the same group–complicit Democrats and Ditto Head Republicans.
Boys will be boys. Deal with it ladies!
Hillary and Willard win Nevada and move on. McCain leading in S. Carolina?
thats why she loves OLD JOE
No, he’s not a closet republican but I think this does show that he is naive.
He just doesn’t see the criminality of those years…especially when he puts “uniting” the dems and republicans BEFORE “accountability”
I think we need accountability first…which surely will not unite dems and republicans. Alot of republicans are going to be called out for colluding with the criminal behavior. This isn’t going to make them happy.
I just think Obama is a little naive. I hope he’s pres one day and that he gets a little eyeful actually being a senator for a few more years.
Re:
As is said, timing is everything. Oh, except when money is everything.
I will support Hillary with much more enthusiasm than I would Obama.
(oh, damn, it seems even we have written off Edwards)
http://www.dailykos.com/story/…..790/439573
And men know better.
Meacham, you say it so well.
A schism in the Democratic party is what the Republicans are hoping for… well, more than hoping for, they are actively working for it! I’m sure many of those fanning the blog flames are Republicans in Democratic clothing.
Absolutely support your candidate passionately, absolutely speak your mind and viewpoint, but don’t do it at the expense of another Dem. Come the General Election, I’m voting Democratic.
This is the mature way to vote, the true Democratic way to vote.
Anything else, including staying home on election day, is just playing into the Republicans.
Spew alert!
If only it were that simple. When you run for office, I would think you realize that your every action has tremendous impact on the world. If a person can’t handle that, they probably shouldn’t run for public office.
Stay in the public sector, do all you want, and you don’t really have to worry about repercussions outside of your immediate family.
Lets educate some firepuppies right now.
1) Hillary and Obama both gave statements they oppose immunity.
2) The bill without Immunity being considered one way or the other allows McConnell and Mukasey total control of wiretapping and what’s legal.
3) The House passed a bill without immunity.
The bill S. 2248 on the floor of the Senate is pretty much going to ensure that Immunity passes, and I’ll make it clear why.
Reid and complicit Democrats like Leahy brought immunity to the floor(the SSIC version).
It takes 60 votes to keep the fillibuster going. Because of Dems and Repub Ditto Heads they don’t have them. The fillibuster will be stopped by cloture.
It takes 60 votes to put an immunity amendment back onto the bill. Because of Dems and Repub Ditto heads they don’t have them.
I’m more sorry than you could imagine. Immunity is pretty much a done deal. Follow Glenn Greenwald @ Salon as he chronicles the horrible play by play of this. Read his article from Thursday I’ve linked about 5 times on threads.
A lot of crazy stuff can happen between now and the Democratic and Republican Conventions, so don’t right off anybody who is still in the race or who hasn’t entered yet…
http://www.nvgopcaucus.com/results
Interesting, both Pox and CNN are posting numbers that lag nvgovgopcaucus.
Seems to me if people, male or female, want better, they should demand better. Isn’t this the whole reason behind the “More and Better” Blue America theme?
Great to hear Ray. I’m not a developer but if I can ever help I’m glad to do that. I help on Windows newsgroups a lot.
Wowwaweewah!
Best quote in the comments:
“Hillary Clinton is turning out to be the Tanya Harding of Politics”
Goodness SAKES an Jeebus Crispies onna STICK! There are some SERIOUS PRUDES round here!!! “where he got it” Oh, that pile of bricks is SACRED!!! Well maybe it’s time to start dealing with the reality based universe instead of holding the Oval Office “sacred” Does it count when chimpy gives his war criminal, illegal orders that KILL tens of thousands of innocent people? It’s a BUILDING fer Crispies sakes. How bout we grow up huh? Maybe deal with some things like going after the war criminals who have attempted to subvert the Constitution huh? But NOOOOOOO, somma you folks would rather be all teary eyes over Bill gettin his dick sucked intha SACRED place. Like I said PUUUUUHLEAZE!!!
OT OT OT
Re:
Embracing your inner borg? (wink)
You are a gentleman and a scholar, and I really appreciate your offer. :)
I spent the majority of the 1990s saying WTF?!?! when watching Clinton in office. I started to conclude, once learning more about the DLC and the DNC (at that time), that our Party had been infiltrated by BigMoney interests in order to destroy true DemocratIC reforms to society.
This last year of DemocratIC “leadership” in Congress has proven this theory for me. The Clintons are key leaders of this effort IMHO. So with this theory, I agree with your statement, and that’s why I’m not sure I can support a Clinton for Prez again.
The Netroots has been instrumental in “outing” many of the people. Lieberman has left the Party already, although Hillary just said this week that he’s a good “Independent Democrat” and thinks Holy Joe should be able to still caucus with Dems, as he campaigns with CrazyTrain McCain. Obviously, we need to turn up the heat even more, and big step in that direction would be to purge the Clintons from the Party next, so they won’t be able to keep PURPOSELY creating division with our Party.
Touche,You are entitled to your opinion and I do not like the GOP cast either… BUT … I think she blows with the wind and is a corporatist of the first magnitude. She supported Goldwater -anti civil rights & pro use of nuclear weapons – (now she ids LBJ who gets things done) then Nixon ( we know about him) then served on the staff to impeach him during Watergate, became first lady of Arkansas while serving her masters the Rose Law firm, Walmart,LaFarge, etc, had luck with the stock market( 10,000 % profit on one deal (and u should see her Presidential financial report),then as first lady handled healthcare and then disappeared from sight only to reemerge to slime Bill’s girlfriends, fire a few Republicans with misuse of FBI records, lose and find 2 years later supoenoed records, and blast the right wing conspiracy ( Hey I applaud her for that). She is not an internationalist like W does not care for U.N.She thinks landmines and cluster bombs are good things ( check the record ). She was so concerned about the working man she voted for the draconian bankruptcy bill which did not pass but no thanks to her. Her Iraq vote was made without reading the N.I.E. which contrary to her b.S. did contain new caveats on going to war based on information being propagated by ” W” and co, but there was already enough info out there to know this was all garbage. THEN WHILE SHE SAYS NOW THAT SHE VOTED FOR INSPECTORS WHY DIDN”T SHE SCREAM BLOODY MURDER WHERE WAS HER OUTRAGE?She supports Nafta and Gatt but will say anything to get a vote. Just like ” W” She can’t admit a mistake. Her campaign coffers are filled by lobbyists, the Goldman Sax crowd who will look to her like they did to Bill to bail them out on bad deals while they rip off the free world.WE do not know what impact if any she had on policy besides healthcare because they won’t release the records or the records for multi million dollar donations to the Clinton library- like the pardons given out by BIll were her brothers brokering those deals as well? I think she is an empty shirt and should be called on her 35 years of public service. The ladies get in an uproar when anyone asks her a question. There should not be affirmative action for the election of the leader of the free world. What has she-not Bill done Can someone enumerate her accomplishments? She is consumed by her desire for power. She has one term as Senator and no executive experience except healthcare and white house travel office. The Republicans will rip her apart even before Monica’s with Blue stained dresses start appearing at campaign rallys. We still have time to stop her and I hope Democrats wake up.If she is blocked till the convention there is a chance to draft someone. For me anyone but Hillary.
Hi Margot,
Thanks for the link. We’re actually working on something a bit more grandiose than youTube .snvs. I need a big program to deal with .avi, .mkv, .XviD, etc.
Cheers!
nice touch snowbird
Re:
I love that idea conceptually. As a practical matter, Hillary is the Judas in our midst. She’ll ruin what’s left of the middle class with her imperial overreach.
I’m a little disappointed. Nothing, though, compared to the weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth that I’ll be in November if we end up with four years under any of the Republicans.
It’s not about the bricks and wood of the White House.
It’s about the job (as in occupation that is) and what comes (oh stop it) with it.
I think Al Gore would’ve won by enough that vote manipulation wouldn’t have mattered. Clinton’s BJ tainted Gore’s candidacy by guilt from association IMHO.
Thus, I feel Clinton’s lack of control is what allowed Shrub to “win,” and cause all the death and destruction the neocons have inflicted upon the world. Until someone convinces me otherwise, I will have difficulty feeling good about the Clintons moving into the White House again.
I’m not trying to convince you of anything, but polling throughout the impeachment showed increasing support for Clinton. The MSM almost went bonker not understanding why the public wasn’t as outraged as they were. In the end, Gingrich, Livingston, Faircloath and about half to the house managers were gone and Clinton remained with a higher popularity rating. For me, it was one of the great reassurances in Democracy, that despite the disappointment in Clinton’s personal quirk, the public at large got it. It was an attempted political coup over something unrelated to governing.
This is arguably revisionist. There are very astute political observers who believe that if Gore had embraced Clinton, rather than distanced himself from him, he would have won handily.
Do you know that during Clinton’s administration more people moved from the lower class to the middle class than any time in recent history??? (barring the industrial revolution??)
Mrs. Andrea Mitchell-Greenspan be confused. There was not a state court battle between the unions instigated by the Clintons–it was federal court. The feds were who her husband worked for. But Andrea’s not the NYT is she?
I remember that it was the biggest jobhunters labor market I had ever seen. I had three kids, out of college. They could move from job to job if they wanted, without fear of burning bridges. I had never seen it that way before and haen’t since.
Well, I don’t have links or polls handy to support my claim, but it’s an opinion I started having during the hearings (not to mention his perjury and meaning of “is” nonsense…yeesh!). As we’re seeing right now as well, national head-to-head races can be radically off from more individualized polls done within Parties, or in more regional areas. I was quite active at that time all around the country, and remember many people agreeing with me.
I don’t see how Gore would’ve benefitted by embracing Clinton more. Is the theory that more Nader voters would’ve backed him? That doesn’t make sense since Nader voters were pissed at Clinton’s economics. Would more “centrists” have backed Gore? Doesn’t follow for me either, since Gore was in a mad dash to the mythical “center” and had picked Benedict Lieberman for VP.
I just simply don’t remember any sort of groundswell of Clinton support after the Monica affair. I wonder if those polls mentioned were a result of the economy doing well, and things at least appearing Okay internationally. If so, this still doesn’t mean that people wanted an end to the Clinton shenanigans (like me!).
Keep in mind I was already disgusted by Clinton based on his policies, and then this happened.
I guess NAFTA, Media and other Industry Conglomeration, Union-busting, etc. are all good then!
More and Better Centrists!
make that “If so, this still allows for the possibility that people were tired of the Clinton shenanigans.”
Well, I was shocked and disappointed by the BJ, but didn’t see the other shenanigans. My recollection was that he was pretty well under siege for Richard Mellon Scaife and others to a degree I’d never seen before. I consdired him preferable to both the elder Bush and Bob Dole. Ms. Clinton, IMO, is definitely preferable to Romney, McCain, Giuliani, Paul, or anywone else who has the nerves to come out in public and say they are Republicans after the crap we’ve been through the last seven years.
But, it’s obvious a lot of other FDL’s will chose to stay home, vote Republican, or join in with some other party.
No More Media Blackout and Response to Dr. Ron Paul’s Surge
1) The media will have to take a different tactic against Ron Paul besides their failed attempts to black him out, not invite him to the debates, discount him as a long shot or nut job, and continues to talk about their favorite Rudy’s eventual Florida comeback.
And
2) Expect Dr. Paul’s Martin Luther King Day “I have a Dream” one day internet fundraiser to beat his $6 million anniversary of the Boston Tea Party December one day record breaking fundraiser.
As Hunter Thompson said: When the going turns wierd, the wierd turn PRO.
Anyone besides me get disgusted by posters who say “Boo hoo, I’m for Edwards but, gosh, maybe the always-truthful media is right: John should try to be someone’s VP or angle for Attorney General.” ?
How about people who decry playing the gender card or the race card … but can not accept that both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are NOT agents of genuine change; both sport $100 Million campaign war chests from corporate lobbyists who don’t care which card gets played in the Democratic nominee — woman or black — because both are bought out by the for-profit health and war machines. And both will lose against virtually any likely GOP nominee.
So, not playing the gender or race card means pretending to not notice how retro, non-progressive and undemocratic — say nothing of unelectable — both are? I don’t see that positioning on HRC or BO as liberal, non-divisive or a step in the right direction. I see it as painfully naive and non-reality based politics.
And if I point out this LaLa Land Magical Political Thinking, then I get called anti-female (i.e., anti-me :-O), crypto-racist (good one! hahaha I still think we all got lots of ’splaining to do, Lucy, regarding Native Americans … the Square One targets of American genocide and racism) OR I hate this one the most: I get told how much better Democrats are than Republicans. Duh-oh. Thanks for the tip on that one, oh child of the cave.
THUS: In line with Hunter Thompson (above) and William Burroughs, Jr. — who said a paranoid is the person with all the facts at his/her disposal — I tend to think there is some other kharmic chess game sh*t going on here.
When people willfully ignore Barack Obama’s GOP Vote Fraud style of qualifying for elections in the Illinois Senate and US Senate (check out the Chicago Trib investigation and BlackAgendaReport.com) …
When people persistently choose to ignore Hillary Clinton’s atavistic DLC credentials, with all the lobbying PAC money and Corporatist Defender Woman baggage …
And when we hear people like John Kerry, Gary Hart, Senator Progressive Patriots Fund Russ Feingold, allegedly-sane Pat Leahy of Guerrilla Vermont, and who-cares ersatz Democrat pundit O’Donnell GO OUT OF THEIR WAY to diss John Edwards …
When we hear Edwards box Obama’s green ears twice in one day — Jan 18, 2008 on drooling over that ole class warfarist/union busting/Alzheimer’s ridden Reagan; and whacking BO upside the head for sitting 5 ft from Edwards during the Nevada debates and promising to stop the divisive politics, then lyingly/hypocritically condoning dirty and malicious UNITE spots against Hillary Clinton … whom Edwards defended Bwhaaaaaaa …
I do believe we’re seeing a potential All-Time Historic Cold Cock of the American Crypto-Fascists underway. I don’t think Hillary Clinton is what we need in a president; DITTO Obama. But neither do I think either one of them is an idiot. (Why else would Obama act like a buffoon sometimes during the Nevada debate: ooops I can’t keep up with my paperwork so make me Prez and I’ll lose that Presidential Briefing Memo on terror attacks? Or Let’s see how many tender Dems vote for me if I start rimming Ronnie Alzheimer’s Reagan’s ass. Aha! I did it. My supporters don’t even know who RayGuns was!) Why else would Hillary Clinton defend — defiantly and stamping her foot! — defend the dozens of million of buckaroos she swallows from Big Health Insurance, Big Pharma, Big Defense Contractors, et. al? Irony? Hypocrisy? Or warm-up for Comedy Club?
I think there is a giant cold cock going on here. Someday I’d like to get Russ Feingold drunk and beat the game outta him. But, I, for one, am not going to go mewling and puking off into the sunset right now … looking for job openings for “failed John Edwards.” Don’t buy that meme, thanks.
[RBG Note; metaphorically speaking, no doubt?]
I am for Edwards…and I can’t disagree with anything in the above post, but I really don’t have much patience for the Hillary haters who do not use the facts.
I didn’t defend Nafta…and by the way neither does Hillary.
But the world was a lot better for poor folks. I am telling you the wages were going up because jobs were so plentiful. Republicans couldn’t find people to work the job available and were having to add benefits and higher wages. The republicans don’t ever want that at happen again. They were at the mercy of the labor market. Why do you think they’ve worked so hard to keep the hispanic surge going??? So they never have to be nice to workers again.
During the Clinton years at least where I live, we had 0 unemployment, a balanced budget, and more folks spending money IN the economy being able to buy stocks, more folks moving from middle class to upper middle class. That’s the truth. I am not for Clinton for other reasons.
But SHEESH!! before you trash on someone get your facts straight.
Go EDWARDS!!
wavepeac at 228 …
Scusi??? Hillary Clinton IS Mr/Mrs/Ms NAFTA. Ha ha ha. Fresh off anti-GATT protests in Seattle in 1989, I hounded the new Two-for-One Clinton White House in 1992 about why NAFTA was a really really proven (via GATT) no good, bad idea for American workers.
I got back blah-blah-blah 7th Grade treatises on White House stationery about how I just didn’t understand the wonders of the corporate capitalist system. (and, hint, was I maybe a Commie?)
Well, NAFTA and CAFTA and Peru Trade Agreement (favored by BOTH Hillary and her sidekick Barack Obama) have worked out real well for American workers, hasn’t it? Worked out real well for Chinese job slaves and maquiladora Mexicans whose babies are born without brains. (It’s called anacephalic and it comes from General Motors plants shuttered in Michigan and moved to the US-Mexican Border.)
Thank you, Hillary Clinton. Mrs. NAFTA. Now, who doesn’t have their facts straight?
After four years of McCain/HuckaBee! the country will finally be ready for John Edwards and we will be also. With the Trojan Horse Obama stuck in the Senate where he can, maybe get some work done, we in the ’sphere can continue electing ‘More and Actual Democrats’.
Edwards/Edwards /12!
And I am very serious about this.
