You may have been wondering why conservative stalwart Rush Limbaugh is so enthusiastic about a candidate who was, until recently, a pro-choice socialized-healthcare-supporting not-evangelical-christian government-interventionist tax-raising moderate governor who abandoned the heartland for the liberal hellmouth of Massachusetts.
In the wide-open Republican presidential contest, Mitt Romney boasts an influential fan who has the ear of millions of voters.
Rush Limbaugh, the cigar-chomping conservative stalwart, has been on a tear over the last few weeks, talking up Romney and taking whacks at John McCain and Mike Huckabee. And in a race where no candidate has been able to unify the base of the Republican Party, Limbaugh’s chatter matters. With 13.5 million listeners on 600 stations, the nation’s most highly rated talk-radio host could give Romney a big boost.
…
Just as tellingly, Limbaugh has been crusading against Huckabee and McCain, whom he does not consider real conservatives or suitable heirs to the Reagan legacy.
If either wins the nomination, "it’s going to destroy the Republican Party," he told listeners Tuesday.
…
Limbaugh also derides the independents and moderates supporting McCain and Huckabee as "quivering masses of Jell-Os" and not real Republican conservatives.
…
While Romney’s advisers are aware of the kudos, Romney himself seemed unaware that he was being singled out for praise by the man who calls himself El Rushbo. "I haven’t had the chance to hear Rush Limbaugh lately, but if he is saying nice things then I appreciate it," Romney said yesterday.
As our french friends (hey, we’re liberals, we must have french friends, right?) say, WleF?
Well, I’m here for you. Here’s a quick list of the leading Republican candidates’ positions on issues of importance to Rush that will help you understand what he sees in Mitt Romney.
Abortion
Huckabee: Never supported it, doesn’t support it now. Wants to amend the constitution to ban it.
McCain: Doesn’t support it, has voted against frequently
Romney: Ran for office on a platform of keeping abortion "safe and legal"
Founded and built Bain Capital, which recently bought radio giant Clear Channel
Immigration
Huckabee: Governed a state with an economy supported by poultry processors, who depend on immigrant labor. Fought the Republican establishment for better treatment for the American children of undocumented immigrants. Has since demanded that those children be deported
McCain: Supported Our Fearless Leader’s business-friendly immigration plan, which Limbaugh and his cohort in radio opposed to such effect that conservative stalwart Trent Lott suggested bringing back that Republican bete noir the Fairness Act
Romney: Wasn’t interested in keeping undocumented immigrants out of his yard, let alone the country. Founded the firm which recently bought Clear Channel, a division of which franchises Rush Limbaugh’s show
Taxes
Huckabee: Raised
McCain: Didn’t raise
Romney: Raised, but did it in the context of having a large equity stake in a company with little concern about the free speech of its political opponents which recently bought the company that owns a division which syndicates Rush Limbaugh’s show
Path in life:
Huckabee: evangelical preacher, from red-state blue-collar family, bootstrapped his way to the top
McCain: War hero, son of war hero
Romney: Privileged child of a Republican moderate who spent the Vietnam war in France. Former partner and current equity holder in firm which recently bought Limbaugh franchiser (and radio station/concert venue monopoly) Clear Channel, a company which does not hesitate to make its political opinions known
I think if you look at it in context, you’ll see that Romney is exactly where he has to be in every area Limbaugh gives a shit about. Shame on you for doubting it.

Julia!
oooooooooooohoooooooooooo
ZED??
BillO and then Rush? Ack!
Dammmmmmmm
hi Julia,didja get your Cinnamon?
hey there
julia!
Clear Channel is coming through loud and clear.
Your message is coming in loud and Clear.
I was at work all day, but it’s one of the things I want to do this weekend.
My family is a little jumpy about my going craft- or ingredient-shopping, because sometimes I can be a little obsessive about
because they’re just silly, that’s all. But it’s nice to have an excuse.
AAR, I have your offer bookmarked…
hahahahahaah
Rushbo is a conservative, here or when he is Casa de Campo?
Rush is a bonehead, too,.
Rush likes Mittens? The flip-floppingest, say anything to anyone, change his positions every few minutes, empty suit that is the Mittster. Heh. It’s official. Rush has jumped the shark.
good
Thank you FCC. Less and less small ownership, more and more concentrated ownership. Makes sure you get the honest news!
Rush likes Mittens? The flip-floppingest, say anything to anyone, change his positions every few minutes, empty suit that is the Mittster. Heh. It’s official. Rush has jumped the shark.
————–
they have the same exact MO …do or say ANYTHING
rush tried to jump the shark but the shark called him a pervert and told him and his bottles of v*agra to go elsewhere
good bein’ here. only a few more days of my sabatical from the campaign. g’night.
*good* post – I like your style…
Evening, Suzanne!
Great comparison Julia!
I think Romney is the one that is the “Chosen One”, because of his connections with Bush via Jeb/Schmidt/Blackwater/Cofer Black and Mormon mogul, Devos/DeVos via DeVos.
He’s the rich man’s money-cruncher man.
Romney doesn’t care about the wedge issues, he just has advisers that tell him what to say to get the vote. He’s an introverted geek, money cruncher, business-mogul type.
His kids bought him a horse mask as a present to send the message to his wife, who he must be ignoring (therefore all of her attentions are to the barn), to stop ignoring him and pay as much attention to him as she does her horses. True story.
Hmmmm.
that is a hilarious.
I’ve been listening to a lot of right-wing radio for fun lately. It’s like an anthropology experiment. Truly, they are the stupidest people on the planet (pardon the blogwhoring, my profile won’t seem to link).
g’evening madmommy
Man, you forgot that Mitt’s dad marched with MLK. In spirit, anyway. Really, it was real!
Rush is probably just appalled that Huckabee could say something like this: “You don’t like people from outside the state coming in and telling you what to do with your [Confederate] flag. If somebody came to Arkansas and told us what to do with our flag, we’d tell them what to do with the pole. That’s what we’d do.”
Those little pills keep the blood in his brain.
evening Suz.. whats the temp up in in hills?
I did that, too, for a while. But it becomes more depressing than the truth pretty quickly.
I was thinkin’, maybe he hallucinated it!!!
money cruncher, business-mogul type. translated big thief,/racketeer
and half my comment disappeared.
dammit. Rush has been on a crazy tear lately about everything. He rides McCain like crazy, it’s hysterical. Just yesterday he remarked somethign about FDR being an unpopular president.
The self interested flacking for Romney is no surprise: Rush cares about one thing, and that’s Rush.
tis 40 and dropping. we are supposed to get down to the 20’s this weekend and next week.
I didn’t think that one of the Republican candidates would go with sodomizing the opposition so early in the race, but I’m from New York, so I’m a little naive about politics, I guess.
and drugs, and small boys with accents
A lot of the bad feelings people have about Hillary are because they listened to Rush during the 90’s when he was relentlessly spewing the “slick willie” thingy and the Whitewater trash…before they realized they were being brainwashed. JMHO
problem is the blood is needed in the bigger brain (although it really is a tie as to which is smaller)
I appreciate it too, but for different reason than the Mittster. If Rush endorses him, it’ll make it easier for the Mittster to get his ass handed to him in the general.
hahahahaha
he excels at that
It looks like Mitt has the overweight, pain-killer addicted sex tourist vote locked up.
There’s a visual I did NOT need.
Hi Suzanne!!
Hillary is my only hope.
rofl
I’d love to get Shark-fu on the radio to replace El Rushbo. For instance, there’s today’s post-Shrubbery press conference rant:
Yep. There’s got to be a radio station ready for the Angry Black Bitch.
Be afraid, Rush. Be very afraid.
hey wangdang
shark-fu tells the truth and that is verboten on radio, peterr
We’re supposed to get down below zero. I wonder if that’s with wind chill? I hope so.
On the radio, she’s have to *wink* and *blink* and “Catch thy knee” a bit more often.
I really enjoy her.
Just saying.
Put some bricks, big rocks in the oven at 200 degrees for 1 hour… wrap in a towel and put at the bottom of your bed… will keep your piggies warm all night..:>)
I can have tee-shirts designed by tomorrow. ;)
the dog and the cat take care of keeping the bed warm.
She’s got a few herself.
The “acceptably black” refers to a rant that can be found here.
Just tryen ta help:>)
But who warms the bed for the dog and the cat? Show some love for the 4-legged bedwarmers :)
Where do you guys live to be thinking about warming up rocks to keep warm? Good eco thing.
Digby.
Jane.
Angry Black Bitch.
Howie.
Froomkin.
Sounds like a nice dinner party to me.
Rush? Not so much.
thanks for the tip
We have a “beddog” footwarmer. She warms our feet all night long.
In the Ay area and it is cold…. that is relativity cold… you have to remember we are not used to the cold…. the thin blood and all that
I must say that I really don’t want to hear any more about Rush or his limp bough. It doesn’t surprise me a bit that he is a
whoreshill for those who pay him.Old frontier trick… saw it on the tubz a long long time ago
The fact that teh limpball is not in jail tells us everything.
But can anyone please explain why Arianna would have the sleasy photoshop of Michelle Obama up? I do not get it.
Been around longer than that, i think. Pretty sure that dates back to europe, but the warming of the bricks is definitely something you rarely see nowadays. Always something i was curious about, myself. But never had the chance to try it, nor the inclination.
i am a wussy northern californian wearing 3 layers already. down to 39.2. yikes.
I also heard something about warming a bag of rice…but I can’t remember where…that works the same way.
HRC.
i have a back buddy – baby girl made me one for christmas a couple years ago – tis an old sock filled with rice that i heat in the microwave. keeps me toastier when placed under the layers.
Suz, I have a room to rent here near San Diego. Come on down and warm up!
Rush is out to nail one of Romney’s sons.
I think that is what I was thinking of..
Thank you so much for that mental picture.
Is the brain bleach in the usual locations, Suzanne?
Hmmmm??????!!!!
Fortunately for Mittmo, that’s about 52% of the Repube Party.
Predicted for tomorrow morning in Kansas City: -2. For some folks even worse, depending on your microclimate.
Surprising both Mrs. Peterr and myself, our six year old California kid loves this whole cold weather thing. He got off the bus from school this afternoon (temp: 14 degrees), bundled up in his down coat (but without his gloves on!), looked at the snow flurries coming down and said “Daddy, let’s go for a walk.”
He may have been born in CA, but his midwestern genes are showing.
HRC? Ariana has done everything possible to destroy Hillary. Wrong, LS. Why do you say that??
55 gal drums by each entrance and exit and small personal pouchs under each chair. one gallon jugs by each power strip.
Looks better than McCain…That is a worry. Imagine.
that’s only because the snow newness hasn’t wore off yet.
wait until the end of february
Yea Julia,
Love “WleF” heh heh heh.
I’m a California kid who got used to colder climates right away as well. It’s kind of exciting to have something so different, that is if you move young enough and you don’t know better yet.
hey christine… hehehehe twas my fav line too :)
It also a method used for a cookout on the beach. Put a bunch of rocks in a good big fire [it, let the fire die down cover rocks with seaweed add the food cover with more seaweed and then go play for an hour. come back take off the top layer and enjoy!
Sweet. So you guys moved from California to the midwest?
I didn’t know that. But, why/who at Huffco would want to denigrate Michelle Obama and for what reason?? I doesn’t make sense at all…It seemed to me that HRC is the main rival…or the Rovians, but that wouldn’t be Huffco would it?
I dunno. Tis a puzzlement for sure. I’m confused.
Below zero by Sunday, Margot — down comforters and chili.
I don’t follow Arianna…just thought I’d throw that in, so I’m ignorant about what appears there.
Now that would look great on a T-shirt!
Yep.
The Kid is now 10 minutes from one grandma and a half-day’s drive from the other. Both grandmas think this is a much nicer arrangement than him being half a continent away.
Oh, and they like being closer to me and Mrs Peterr, too.
It is alittle when you move from the notheast and come to California….
I’m not correct all that much, but I called this Mittmo thing before he even officially declared and there were rumors that he’d run. It was simply based on his smooth talking and his looks and family’s looks. The lizard brain that is required to be a Repubelickin responds to simple stimuli only.
Just like a certain Isreali lobby group and the Shrubinistas, they can overcome religious differences in order to appeal to their one true “religion” – money.
I was waiting to see who Lush Limpballs would “get behind,” and once that happens you know who the Chosen One is.
bonkers, you don’t think rush would not support anyone without permission from the GOP?
Hello to all the fine late night folks, hope everyone is doing well.
hey MMan
LS, the photo won’t link for me at the moment, and I am too pissed to work it. Look at the Huffpo crap. Scroll down.
This is disgusting. Arianna loses me.
(coming out of the woodwork) hey Millineryman :-)
Got to call it an evening. G’Nite, all!
loohoo, looks like huffpo picked it up from this site
And you can look forward to the temperate summers as well
^_^
Good night Pete
That picture is truly tasteless.
Hiya MM – good evening.
g’nite peterr
Wow. I agree. I never warmed up to Huffco at all.
Went to a Mauri cookout in NZ once..they dug a pit but rather than exotic rocks, they threw in old brake drums, brake shoes and iron chain..progress I guess.
Hi Suzanne, Loudoun, what’s shakin’?
Hallelujah
very nice performance by kd lang, such a voice.
OMG. Cannot beat that! Grandma and Grandpa love is like no other.
Yes ma’am…I think I’ll start a green chili stew. That should keep us warm.
best kd ever
Stop, stop, stop. Do you have a recipe??? Please, please, please…I’ve been looking for one for years….????
That would work but would lose the heat faster. Beinging conductive and all that!
Wow. Like it was written for her. Thanks!
Wow MM, she nails this song. Gorgeous.
Second that, Margo.
Julia, nice post. You flat laid it out.
bonkers, I think you have it the opposite!! Cheers. VOTE! I know times are really rough, and unlike anything we’ve ever seen before, but be a patriot. We can win if we continue to have strength. You are NOT alone!
That is just beautiful. Thank you.
SO may choices, you can see she feels the music. I was fortunate enought to see her live, and that voice is so real.
Re:
Apparently some people have not picked up on the fact that 23/6.com is a satire site.
***
One of the best pieces of satire you’ll ever see is “Esteban and Lou Dobbs”. This is truly tasteless and utterly hillarious. Stephen Cobert at his politically incorrect best…

TeleRaimundo Sez Czech It Out!
Glad everyone enjoyed that video, and I hope I didn’t distract from the conversation. I just saw it and thought I would share it. And thanks for confirming that it is indeed as good as I thought. I drank a lot of rum tonight.
i get the feeling that she is like emmylou in that her voice is so much better and clearer in person – when i saw emmylou the first time, i realized there is no way for media to properly capture how clear and pure her voice is. kd must be the same in person.
kd lang and Roseanne Cash having too much fun performing Loretta Lynn’s You Ain’t Woman Enough To Take My Man.
Yep. Pure genius.
hahahahaha thanks, i needed that
did they prep Dobbs or does he really speak Spanish?
This was going back a few years and I really wan’t that familiar with her music, however I went along and got blown away. She sang her heart out for 3.5 hrs, and boy was I hooked.
I never seen emmylou however I can imagine how impressive she would be.
Been up top tipping cows for Applebees – cool. More fun than clicking on Newt(which I absolutely did do for the cause).
recent emmylou (with Mark Knopfler)
That album they made together is a good ‘un.
I can imagine a lot of people identifying with that statement.
But, clearly he isn’t worried about being a ‘uniter and not a divider’.
jeez, louise, almost an hour and a half into the post and you pups haven’t dugg it yet?
Tinfoil propeller head Alert:
New book exposes inner workings of the C.I.A.’s Mighty Wurlitzer. Read All About It! World is not as it seems!
THE MIGHTY WURLITZER: How the CIA Played America By Hugh Wilford.342 pp. Harvard University Press.
A couple of days ago, the New York Times ran an op/ed by Gloria Steinem. I did not know until reading this review that Steinem has had a decades’ long relationship with the CIA. From the article:
And to The Washington Post she said: “In my experience the agency was completely different from its image: it was liberal, nonviolent and honorable.” Compare to reality here.
Steinem was a “witting” participant. Many others dependent on C.I.A. backing were “unwitting” (the terms, it seems, were in common use in the agency), because the money they accepted was channeled through existing foundations or through organizations ostensibly set up by wealthy individuals…

Some may find the routes used by the CIA to channel funds to leftish organizations to be troubling: http://www.leftgatekeepers.com/
Kiddo and Loo Hoo are drivin’ me nuts. I can hardly tell when they’re serious or just yankin’ my chain.
ROFLMAO
Bad link
Dugg your post Julia…
But I almost feel bad linking to something with Limbaugh in the first graf!
:-)
double crap – my apologies here is the fixed link
I am Digg challenged :-( Each time I try to do it, I mess it up somehow.
I heard years ago that the CIA funded MS Magazine.
Ergghh, I get a 404.
But check out the fine western footwear in this one…

Re:
I’ve no idea, but “cue cards” comes to mind for some reason. :)
(I couldn’t find my Pink Adobe cookbook but found the recipe online. Looks like it needs more liquid. Also, needs potatoes or posole.)

I think that it is in Aaron Russo’s documentary/movie “Freedom to Fascism” that they talk about that. Interesting.
Wow, they did an album together? I really need to crawl out from under the rock.
Thank you!!! Can’t wait!!!
I see what I’m cooking tomorrow, thanks!
Wow, that is quite a collection of country sang-in’ luminaries!
Hiya Lou, congrats on getting the whole weekend off!
Sounds pretty mild to me, wheres the habaneros ?? gee
I think Dobbs wife is Mexican.
-G
I can’t wait until all of my hair is that color!
Love this video. I met Minnie Pearl one day at the post office when I lived in Nashville. She was as sweet as could be, my Granny was with me and they talked a bit, and she signed an autograph for her. She was a very popular lady around town, always kind and friendly to fans.
Dobbs does speak spanish. his wife is hispanic (Mexican?). for us Dobbs triggers more than a little cognitive dissonance. the guy is quite intelligent and some aspects of his sociopolitical analysis are spot on.
me neither. when i cut my hair all off, the hairdresser told me my hair is coming in silver white and not grey.
WWJSWAFP?
Who Would Jesus Sodomize With A Flag Pole?
-G
How-DEEEEE!!
Thanks wangdang! I would’ve had Friday off, but I told ‘em at work that I’d pull some overtime.
How much for Minnie’s hat?
-G
So how did Dobbs’ wife become a citizen, I wonder?
$1.98
I love me some Loretta
Thanks, Margot. Gonna try this one soon. Is tea salt similar to sea salt? *g*
Same here, but I’ve got a long way to go. I’m only about 10-15% there.
I finally took the plunge and got mine cut, too. (As opposed to the whack job I gave myself a little while back that only layered it, didn’t shorten it.) Mid-neck bob.
Wiki refers to her as “Mexican-American…”
Funny! You’d get a different answer from kiddo and Lahoma is my best guess, but I totally support Hillary.
Thanks.
-G
Oddly enough, that’s about the tone of my growing witch’s streak Suzanne. *grin* Since i’m getting it at such a young age(i just turned 30 and the hispanic/black mix means its rare to get grey/silver before 50 or 60!), it causes much amusement. It shows up in very dark brown hair, and startles no few of my patients because i’ve refused to dye it.
*shrugs* I’m weird that way.
tis obvious to me but others don’t think i have much.
Re:
That’s interesting. I’ve done quite a bit of research into Operation Mockingbird/The Mighty Wurlitzer. It’s quite unnerving to anyone who cares about real democracy to find that the CIA sees the whole thing as a Potemkin Village to be controlled from behind the curtain.
Another very dubious character is David Corn, the Nation’s Washington bureau editor. He’s been very well compensated by the State Department to lead seminars in glorious four-star resort locations. It’s kind of creepy to think that the guys like him who get the bullhorn on the Left are actually deeply in bed with the grotesquely Orwellian-named “intelligence community”. Gawd do I hate that term. It’s a bastardization of everything good about un pueblo unido.
And in another grotesque and Orwellian power grab, apparently “the Company”
is trying tohas completed a Department of Truth whitewashing of history by removing references to The Mighty Wurlitzer at Wikipedia. Here’s what they have on Operation Mockingbird which is also under attack by the Agency:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Mockingbird
AND THEY DARE TO CALL IT DEMOCRACY!
have a good night everyone.
That’s one thing I never volunteer for. But then, it’s chinese overtime, not real overtime.
Now Suz and Margot,
Call me crazy, but I actually have salt and vinegar collections…from France, Spain, etc. Oh, and paprika too! Loved that recipe yesterday.

wangdang — Chinese overtime? Please ’splain.
Nite, nite MM.

Tain’t nuthin’ crazy ’bout that. I have a whole shelf in the pantry just for spices, about 4 square feet.
The more hours you put in, the less you get per hour. They call it Salary, Non-Exempt.
The thread topic also explains the support of Boston radio hack Jay Severin, aka Jimmy Severini.
Severin used to rail on about flip-flopping John Kerry…..And then he embraces Mitt “all things to everyone” Romney.
-G
Wow, that’s not much of a deal is it? :-P
Oh it blows, for sure.
I hope that meant one teaspoon salt!
Joni Mitchell with Pat Metheny “Goodbye Pork Pie Hat“
Among the times for which e-mail may not have been archived from Vice President Dick Cheney’s office are four days in early October 2003, just as a federal probe was beginning into the leak of Valerie Plame’s CIA identity, an inquiry that eventually ensnared Cheney’s chief of staff.
Zombie nation doesn’t care about this.

I have also been surprised at how much the Mitt supporters have changed the references to the LDS Church.
Fill a pillow case with buckwheat put it in the mocrowave…a cozy headwarmer.
We travel a great deal in Europe. We love to eat, and I like to cook. My suitcases are usually filled with stuff from the grocery stores, including the Spanish ham that they took away from me at Customs in Cleveland! Love the spice counters, especially looking for ground ginger in UK for fruitcake.

Now that is fine!
But you have guys like Larry Johnson as sweethearts of the blogosphere and the left (now) and of course Valerie Wilson of CIA fame.
The CIA is a really nasty operation and they have insinuated themselves into EVERYTHING. Don’t trust them. The wizard behind the curtain.
I queried Rush’s fawning fan club over at Captain Ed’s… “Who’s El Rushbo gonna pimp for now?”
http://www.captainsquartersblo…..p#comments
Would you believe no one had the courage to respond… or as GB might exclaim in his best vernacular… “Can you believe them lack of cajones?”
That part about taxes is the strongest argument – wait, my head hurts – Mitt Romney is a member of an LSD church?!?
thanks you, thank you, thank you. nice piece Julia!!
Rush got his instructions from the GOP big boys, and he’s dutifully following their orders. I love how messed up the GOP is this year–but i think the GOP establishment will win as always–it’ll be Romney/Huckabee in that order (to keep the religious right coming to the polls)
What astonishes me is the rightwing media support for Frederick of Hollywood Thompson–it’s insane.
