In case you didn’t know, Bill O’Reilly mocked John Edwards’ plea for homeless veterans the other night, basically denying their existence.
I realize that a fundamental principle of conservatism these days is to ignore facts that contradict ideological biases, regardless of empirical evidence, so I doubt this video will actually change O’Reilly’s mind about anything. Just a buncha phony soldiers.
But for the rest of us, it’s another sickening example of how little use the Bush administration has for our veterans when they’re not serving as wallpaper for a W. photo-op.

Does anyone know if Media Matters is looking into this? Seems like a good project for them, hot off the success they had in bringing attention to Tweety.
Maybe not on the streets of BillDo’s gated estate. But if you happen to stroll through the areas fringing the Central Business District of any American city you’ll find scores of them. Many of these guys are “intermittantly” homeless, getting temporary housing and jobs…others are chronic. In Sacramento there is a biennial meeting out near the homeless camps that is designed to assist homeless and impoverished Veterans, and the organizations often find their resources swamped. There is no small number of former Servicemen who lack health services, housing, jobs, and other basic needs.

I can’t believe it would be that hard to get a bunch of homeless vets together and meet outside Fox studios.
They could get some great news coverage and point out the stupidity and cluelessness of O’Reilly and his ilk.
But the Dems are too passive to do this…you can believe that if Republicans were on the right side of this issue they would manage to round up hundreds of homeless vets to parade around…

Paul Reichkoff was on KO last night. He said you can just look right outside the studio window and find a couple of vets, if one cares to look. The interview was very good.
I have no idea what Billo can possibly gain from spewing the crazy on this. Just baffling.
The existence of homeless Vets is an inconvenient fact to Falafel O’Loofah. To him anyone who might vote Democrat or oppose the powers that be/status quo are to be punished or ignored. As long as you are his ideological soulmate, you are OK. Or his supplier of Falafel or Loofahs.
OT But the DCCC has just announced their first “tranche” of where hey intend to put funding in order to “change the direction” of the House.
On their list I see only one progressive…Charlie Brown in California. They may have decided on that race before Doolittle dropped out. There’s also a “potential” promise of funding for a takeover of Denny Hastert’s old seat…but they have indicated that they support Bill Foster, rather than Jim Laesch in the Primary there. That’s despite Laesch’s very successful campaign against a well funded and entrenched Speaker in the last Congressional race. Odd that they don’t support the guy who demonstrated that Hastert was vulnerable…to the degree that Hastert resigned.
Otherwise not a Blue America candidate amongst the litter. I think that’s where I’m going to divvy up my “tax rebate” over the next few months.

In addition to this outrage, many vets and friends have been calling the talk shows on Air America in response to BillO, telling stories about vets in VA limbo, the govt indian giving on their enlistment bonuses if they get injured, and more BS. It’s fricking awful. Another one called in and explain a little about the accounting of “deployables” and Rumsfeld’s tasty little quote about troops are “fungible”. F’ing monsters, this entire administration. I cannot believe what we are witnessing and esconcing.
I can’t think of a better “stimulus package” than to elect Democrats!
Mr. O’Lie-ly: We count more than 4,000 homeless veterans here in Vegas. I do pro bono stuff for US Vets, the organization that helps them. 4,000+ in one city, asshole.

I spent a couple of years living like a Mountain man in a State park in Alaska to just get away from everything and everybody when I got back from VN. I trusted No one and nothing. The ONLY people I trusted as far as I could trust anyone were a couple of other vets who were living on their own there too. I WANT ver badly to meet this chickenshit, chickenhawk in an airport or train station some day. This coward talks big when he’s trying to intimidate a woman he sexually harrassed, let him try it with me or any other vet. That this chickenshit chickenhawk and Rush Limpwithnoballs have an audience after dissing vets and active duty soldiers is a DISGRACE. Hope it works
For the past 20 odd years I have been a part of the Denver V.A. Hospital system. Most of it was for physical stuff but some for alcohol abuse.
A recent relapse brought me back in Oct for the first time in 5 years.
The effort by the hospital to find temporary shelter has risen dramatically.
The change is the profile. It is no longer dominated by vets in our 40’s 50′ and yes 60’s….but a significant number 35 and below. What cannot be lost is these vets are a part of the volunteer force so their numbers should not be this high.
Denver is not a big place so if the numbers are high here, 200,000 is a low ball figure.
(note: I am doing fine, so many others are not)
Hope all you vets will stay with us and keep us posted about what’s going on. We need to know so that we can push Congress hard on this. Thanks for being here.

I still say (with absolutely no evidence) that O’Donnell in saying that Edwards should drop out so Obama could win the south was doing the bidding of the Clintons, by getting the Edwards people mad at Obama and vice-versa, so that they would knock each other out. Here in SE Ohio too, lots of biker/veterans. Every summer our town has a huge biker rally, very nice to see so many friendly people.
Both Ron Paul and John Edwards know economics and could best cope with our Recession.
