Well, I don’t know about the “person of interest”, but apparently that anthrax did come from Ft. Detrick, here in Frederick, Maryland. How or who got that material out has not been determined. Yet, the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID)is planning to expand its labs at Ft. Detrick, including the biosecurity level-4 spaces where researchers study agents with a high risk of life-threatening disease for
which no vaccine or therapy is available.

In case you don’t know, and why should you, Frederick is a city of more than 55,000 people. Ft. Detrick is the largest employer. USAMRIID has submitted an Environmental Impact Statement saying that their plans are fine, excellent, no danger threatens our 55,000+ people. Some citizens question that assessment and there will be some activity tonight where the Army will defend its Environmental Impact Statement. Some citizens will be questioning that defense.

The Army and various citizens submit that Ft. Detrick has an excellent safety and security record.

Other citizens question that assertion, given the fact that (and here we go, back to paragraph 1) the anthrax that was mailed out and caused 5 deaths in 2001 came from Ft. Detrick, indicating a possible breach of security.

Of course, none of the 5 people murdered by that anthrax lived here in Frederick, and even if they all did - 5 people killed as the result of a security defect would leave about 54,995 not killed. Unless one of the 5 is you or yours, that’s pretty good odds.

In point of fact, since the days of Harry Truman, when things are explained clearly and in perspective, the vast majority, consistantly in the 70% range do, actually, support a ’single-payer’ type system AND, ahem!, they are willing to pay higher taxes to support such a program.

Sorry no linkerages, but simple investigation will confirm this assertion.

You know, this phenomenon is present in lots of situations. Take health care — the vast majority of Americans don’t want “socialized medicine.” I have been watching this for over 25 years. Back then, it was worse. As time goes by, and health insurance companies get greedier and greedier, more and more want socialized medicine. Why? THEY are suffering. (Who cares about others?)

What happened to Americans wanting the common good? Did they ever?
