At Tuesday night’s Las Vegas Lovefest, one person spoke for me — more than the candidates and more than the moderators. But I did not hear that person’s contribution discussed during the MSNBC gabfest afterwards.
Will you stop all these race-based questions?
These are race-based questions….
The candidates all seemed relieved at the interruption, although Punkinhead Russert’s discomfort was evident. Clearly, he had more race-oriented questions he planned to ask. All in all, didn’t the heckler speak for you, too? Cut it out with the racist questions, you "gotcha" morons.
Thanks, heckler!

About Firedoglake
Hi Teddy.
Folks seem to have taken the night off from the threads.
Pinko Commie Hecklers, unite!
I wondered what that heckler was saying — couldn’t quite make it out last night.
Hi Teddy!
Zed? teddy, the video doesn’t work…but YES the heckler spoke for me! The liveblog about that last night was great. More rebellion please.
They also serve who heckle truthily!!
Up the heckel!!
Last night a heckler stole my heart
The liveblog about that last night was great.
It *was* fun, huh?
The video is working for me.
The heckler speaks for me, Teddy.
Hi Teddy. Evening dear friends.
Russert was there TO race bait.
Yay The Heckler!
hello everybody!
oh dear me, where are my manners
Teddy!
RevDebZed
The sad thing is that, if you ask, young Washington-based journalists coming up in political coverage now will tell you that the “journalists” they most admire are Broder and Punkinhead. Which means we’ll only be subjected to more of this as TradMed fades into the sunset….
I wonder if PW has seen this…
UTube is doing some site maintenance but the video is playing – perhaps it was a hiccup at the start of their scheduled site maintenance tonight.
Gee, good evening, Teddy I’d no idea Hillary could keep her cool in the face of such severe distraction while staying on message so … well actually The Heckler demonstrated coolth, courage and ‘presence’ to such a degree that I hope he attends future debates as well as he has done this.
Hail to the Heckler!
It must be a historic first! The first time the moderators are heckled…
The heckler sounded like Barney Frank to me. Wouldn’t that have been a hoot!
…oh, and if you dig this post, then please Digg this post.
My 17 year old son just came home from phone banking for Obama. He (my son) was amazed at being called a “cocksucker” and a “motherfucker” when all he said was “Hello, this is Peter and I am a high school student calling on behalf of Senator Obama.”
He’s a bit fired up tonight. He said he doesn’t want people like that to decide his future. He’s signed up for more volunteer work.
He is also to write a 300 word column for the local paper on behalf of Young Democrats. He is to choose a topic and the Young Republicans will write on the same topic. The last subject was religion. Any suggestions for him.
(Oh, he said the Young Republicans wore their new t-shirts – “Young Republicans proudly supporting Fox News” – today.)
I think they spoke for many of us…the debate was a sham for the avoidance of questions regarding just about anything where the candidates might discuss their policies in depth. Wasting a half hour on trite…and half the other questions were also about issues regarding the campaign…not questions regarding the vast problems facing America. Nevadans, in particular, must have wondered why the debate was even held in their State. Nothing that might assiust them on how the candidates might deal with Federal issues that impact their State.
Anyone know who the heckler was…and what happened to them? Were they evicted from the debate?
Teh stupid, it burns!!
Isn’t Bachmann the one who jumped on the shrub at the SOTU address and wouldn’t let go of him?
The people are pushing back against the infotainment ‘gotcha’ crap that passes for journalism nowadays.
About forking time!
done dugg, teddy
what state are you in?
When all you’ve got is second rate Mods, you’ve got to expect this kind of thing to happen every once and a while.
Perhaps this is why Meet the Press is produced on a closed set.
Adastra, see good for Peter. See if he’s interested in joining the writing “team” at http://youthinkleft.com/
They’re not doing much in January but hope to restart in February.
Could be… McMackin is the new Head Coach of the Warriors… A defensive guru…
Kansas. I’m the former NZ Expat….though about to move to Montana next summer. Sigh.
And for a follow-up performance Bachmann will start advocating forced labor camps to keep America competitive.
They could write about journalistic responsibility in a democracy/republic, and how that role has changed over the years.
I’ll send him the link. That might be a good connection for him.
The Mod Squad did not get an invite – they obviously did not want first rate Mods.
She’s the one! Seems like SHE wouldn’t mind having two jobs! Laura better keep an eye on THAT one!
OT-Sorry..Jonah’s on Jon Stewart right now
“When all you’ve got is second rate Mods”
You flatter them, Peterr. Fourth rate would be an unearned compliment.
CLEARLY!
Heh, but they’re the prima dons of NBC… ;-)
***please, no west coast spoilers for TDS***
but i appreciate the warning to bring a barf bag
You do seem to get around! Where in Montana?
Where in Montana? I am in Missoula.
Anyone able to tolerate watching Jonah Goldberg on The Daily Show?
Uhmmm, I wish Missoula. It is the beautiful town of Butte. If you marry an environmental engineer, you sometimes end up in toxic places.
No barf bag required. You’ll enjoy it.
Dang, I wish the writer’s strike was over, Bolten, last nite, now Jonah…? WTF?
Williams probably spent more time lining his nose up with the camera than reviewing the questions handed to him.
Please no TDS spoilers for the Westies here…
No.
Oh, shoot, I missed it. John or Josh Bolten?
Oh yeah baby, bring on the Doughy Pantload.
I could use some good material to skewer that stupid bastard with tomorrow.
MWAAAAHAHAHAAAAAA.
ADS not TDS.
Tried to watch A Daily Show last night; got as far as the guest portion, which comes much earlier now, and turned the channel. Clearly, Jon’s gonna have only wingnuts who are willing to cross a picket line. Do you think he realizes what’s happening to the wonderful brand he and his writers created?
Take care. I may have to get up earlier than usual to shovel before work tomorrow. New semester, new faces, new hopes begin with fresh new snow to set the scene. Very pretty winter pictures of my work setting here: http://www2.ku.edu/~features/winterbeauty07/ The campus is a beauty.
Bummer, OJ posted bail I see.
Just make sure you end up upwind and upstream of those toxic places. It may not be 100% safe, but it’s generally a lot better than being downwind and downstream.
As they say, “it’s a dirty job, but someone’s got to do it.” On behalf of the future residents, please pass along to the engineer our thanks.
Hmmm. Toxic is one way to describe Butte (do not drink the water). I have also heard it described as “interesting. Actually not too bad. Fairly progressive for Montana (which really ain’t saying much). It is also in the mounatains which is a definite plus. You absolutely do not want to be in eastern Montana (makes Kansas look scenic).
Right out of the gate, Brian started in on the Race baiting… It was exasperating the first half hour, nothing but the Camps’ tit-for-tats… *gah*
Mr. Mustache, I was a little disappointed in Jon, I’d expected a bit more…
Gorgeous pictures.
Very pretty! It’s always nicer to see pictures of snow and ice than it is to actually try to get anywhere while there is snow and ice.
But Jon did call him out on the ’stache, referenceing Yosemite Sam…
Worth it, I thought.
Ad Astra. Here’s an idea for an essay. The death spiral of the pursuit of corporate profits at the expense, ultimately, of the customer base.
If our manufacturing and now service jobs get shipped off, and the middle class is driven under by mortgage rates and health insurance costs, who will be around to buy all that “made in China” crap?
Sounds like the wingnuts think they have figured out something. “Hey, with the writers out on strike, maybe I stand a chance in getting through an interview.”
And forever after, they will boast of this day:
Foolish, foolish fools.
It was fun, and as I read it to Mr. CE, we laughed till we cried at some comments.
I only watched very small bits and pieces, thankfully, I did catch the heckler tho :)
You do remember the part about “300 words” don’t you?
*g*
Not that it can’t be done, but that’s a tall order.
gorgeous eye candy. my kin are in southern ks, the arkansas city area.
So they get little wingnut merit badges?
I really am going to go to bed now. But yes, it is a beautiful sight. Thanks for looking.
My son wants to somehow convey the hope and the attraction for youth that he sees among the Democrats (particularly the Obama campaign) but he wasn’t sure if he could pull that off. I think I’ll counsel him to get to something specific.
Thanks and goodnight!
Only after they run the gauntlet, Maher, KO, Stewart… *g*
It’s more like a bump on the Wingnut Welfare Pay Scale.
Interviewer, looking over the resume: “Oh, I see you did TDS . . . we can make you an ‘associate fellow’ instead of a ‘research associate’.”
Anyone hungry?
Check out Chris Kelly’s review of Johah’s new book at HuffPo.
Little ADS merit badges, though, since they crossed a picket line. Not TDS. Although Bolton’s been on before — I think he’s Stewart’s favorite neocon.
Thanks TSF, I wanted to know what the heckler said. What happened to him? Who was he? I wished that the candidates would have called out Russert and Williams on their dumb-ass questions. Not like there aren’t any serious issues to discuss. Any of the candidates would have scored huge applause and soaring support if they had dared to have an honest “give me a break” moment.
“Arm around the whole plate, slowly dragging away…”
That’s not too far from where my sister lives in Ponca City. Actually less than a hundred mile from where I grew up at a guess.
don’t let The Lurking Mod see those chocolate pecan cookies – I want at least one.
Yummy, thanks Betsy.
Good thing I have 12 plates!
Last time Bolten was on he fibbed about Lincoln. The following night, Jon Stewart called Doris Goodwin to ask her. Did Jon mention it to Bolten last night?
Coo-kie!
THIS enough to keep y’all for an hour or so?
What about the Yucca Mountain discussion? I thought there was more substance in this debate than in anything previous. And the debaters, not the moderators, provided the substance.
Except for the people in the U.S. House and Senate.
Don’t you remember the “trickle-down theory” espoused by Barak’s new BFF, Ronal Reagan? The “little people” will buy Chinese shoes with all the scraps that trickle down to them from the tables of the Republicans. That is their appropriate lot in life, should they prove worthy.
I don’t know about the rest of the pups, but that should keep me busy for about an hour and a half.
OT, again: BlueAmerica candidate John Leasch has returned tonight to the Studs thread to say thanks!
Listen moonbats! Protect the border or else I’ll do it myself.
-Uncle Lou-Lou
Ain’t that the truth! Not even banker’s hours…!
OT: A few hundred votes and just a few hours.
highly recommended reading – the whole thing: Mark Morford in the SF Chronicle.
etc.
Excellent heckling..
I’d (almost) forgive P-head’s crap, if he’d asked Teddy’s excellent question.
Are the candidates provided the questions before the debate? Jes wondering.
It was typical of the clinton way to trot out an attack plan and when it backfires on them to back off and make nice. This went south back with the whole gender basis of hillary’s campaign. Senator Obama had not run a race centered campaign as hillary had run a gender centered one. I was put off by it from the start as someone said something once about being judged on the “content of your character”. It spoke to me as a young girl and it never left.
Hillary’s “oh, nemmind” press release on Monday was intent on blaming the media for trying to make her responsible for her lack of character the week before. However, in doing so, it made the debate focus on her…… again. Too much time was spent on all about her and that took time away from detailing the larger issues. I think that was her plan, as it always is. Keep it about her, what she said, what she meant, how that’s changed from what she said 6 months ago….. Hillary at the center always. The media aids and abets this tactic. Heck of a campaign hillary!
TeddySF!!! :-) Hey, any news on who this guy was? Plant this time or a real fed up guy? It IS a crappy thing being done to voters who really just don’t think in those terms when making decisions or choosing a President. I agree with the heckler’s sentiment on that! :-)
MMMMM, The food channel is having a dead cow parts cook off.
This should be good.
See: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/…..81828.html
Oh, you do look after us.
Smooches.
morford is a wordsmith always worth reading.
hugs back!
tis why tex is the queen of snack ’round these here parts.
are emtywheel’s posts listed in pacific standard time here?
Probably, FDL is.
i don’t know – i thought they were timestamped in marcy’s time zone and not fdl time (pacific)
and
Well put… No need to read any further…!
Hey guys.
I personally love hecklers. I am going t become a professional heckler.
“Hey McCain. where is your wife, Lieberman?”
“Hey Gouliana! 9-11 9-11 9-11 9-11 9-11 9-11″
morford is a wordsmith always worth reading.
he often rises to driftglass-esque heights of snark, but today’s column is mostly straight-up common sense analysis.
php scripts, like worpress, usually take the time from the host machine. FDL server is in cali.
*making mental note not to piss off mary mc*
Whatever time zone, she has three posts up in a little over an hour.
I think it’s Pacific time looking at the time stamp on her post below, she say’s she’s going to bed a little after 7 oclock.

I’m going to bed. You’ve got about eight hours to catch up.
No, seriously, there;s still about 4 things I wanted to get to today. Damn terror tape propaganda taking up all my time. And if I don’t do a Borat story, bmaz might just wilt.
bmaz asked her if she’d been drinking Red Bull or something…! *g*
Actually she was being pretty nice, ‘Wife” wouldn’t be the word I would have used for Short Ride……….
Well, I ‘m out of here. Take care all.
But the Doughy Pantload just wants to be taken seriously in the halls of ComsympsocialistpoliticiallycorrectsurrendertraitirliberalIslamofascsistacademia.
-G
Chocolate pecan cookies? Mmmm.
sleep well dr (pause) dick
Say THAT fast 3 times!
LOL!
Good thing for Jonah Doughy Pantload that his book was not peer-reviewed. It would not pass muster. So the Hertitage Foundation has very low standard of scholarship(make up whatever you want). That fits in well with Faux NoNews too.
the only reason to see doughy pantload on jon stewart is to check to see if he got all the cheeto stains off his fingers.
I literally 707′d one day reading this one about his lady’s parrot. Love Morford.
Hey Margot — lemon squares… my favorite.
Thanks Tex!
Can’t you just hear that sucking sound, the fingers being cleaned off the cheesy residue.
Someone pointed out that Jonah hasn’t addressed the fact that Saddam Hussein was protected by the Republican Guard.

Even at Home, Backers Worry About Giuliani
from NYT > Home Page by SAM ROBERTS
Even as Rudolph Giuliani plummets in some national polls, his rivals are encroaching on his own backyard.
:o my mother makes some awesome lemon squares!
Another debate in Myrtyle Beach Monday Nite (probably mentioned) done by CNN–Cooper/Wolfie?
It’s a shame that the goofy format they’ll probably use–”pop culture does debates R Us”–with Mickey Mouse Questions from You Tube and lots of “raise your hand if you agree” instead of real questions–they ought to go to blogs for questions.
The debates get so trivialized by the mods who are there to showcase their “stardom” instead of to ask probing questions.
This is what I’m craving right this minute, since y’all are discussing desserts.
So Mary, here’s some news re:
your areaone of your areas of expertise:Thanks for the youtube. Russert looked really unhappy. if a heckler can do that, imagine what talking heads could do to him…if they talked back.
wow, mommybrain, i had missed that one – thanks.
The production level of a lot of these front pagers is awfully good. Marcy’s is out of sight.
I don’t know how the timestamps work here, but Marcy is posting from Ann Arbor, Michigan.
I forgot to say goodnight from the BlueBayState. Read you all tmr.
make that latter today.
Kiss all the mothers who bake — I grew up with one and turned into one myself. Best lemon squares for me: Cooks Illustrated recipe, May-June 1998.
Paging Pennywise.
Speaking of which, I see a future of childrens parties for Doughy the Conservative Clown.
-G
mmmmmm, I worked as a waiter in a little belgium restaurant in philly that had awesome creme brulee
don’t do that to children!
yeah, he is a little isolated there on his show isn’t he
That is so cool, thanks for bringing back some great memories.
i got adopted by a baby pigeon that had fallen out of a palm tree and broken its leg so badly it was crook’d sideways.
That was the neatest little critter. Used to ride around on my head and would kick my cats ass.
I know that the distinction is subtle but clowns and clown cars are quite different. Clowns are creepy assholes that enjoy scaring the crap out of kids. Clown cars take them there to do it. Clown cars are much more passive than clowns.
g’nite bluestateredhead and any other leaving sleepy pups i may have missed while walking token, cutest dog in the world (9lb category)
are you saying that clown cars are passive aggressive?
Oh my, creme brulee!
I loved that article, thanks so much!
Most certainly. Passive aggressive but get good gas mileage.
Good advice :)
My ma is one of the best. Good at the breads too. I picked up on the bread thing but haven’t baked anything in quite a time.
Thank you, Mr. Heckler, whoever you are!
No, it’s my creme brulee!
But I’ll share *g* here’s a spoon, just leave me a couple of raspberries, please.
“A few hundred votes and just a few hours. That’s all that separates Barack Obama from John Edwards in the Courage Campaign’s online poll of progressives in California. Meanwhile, Senator Hillary Clinton and Representative Dennis Kucinich are fighting it out for third place.”
Now if the Courage Campaign can only get all the other folks in California not to turn out to vote ;-)
Hey tw3k,
Is the restaurant in Philly still there? I have a daughter in Wilmington, DE that we visit often.
Hey Chris!
“tap, tap, tap…” Thanks for the spoon Mommybrain!
hey everybody, stepped away for a moment, but i’m back
Sorry, Teddy, got here late (and may not be able to stay up too much longer, it being New York time and all) but, yeah, absolutely, likewise.
it ain’t real unless there’s a photo ya know!
Mr. and Mrs. Heckler lived a simple life until the democratic debate in Las Vegas. Mr. Heckler made a name for himself and became a celebrity. Mrs. Heckler developed a gambling addiction and frittered away the children’s college fund. They divorced a year after their trip to Nevada.
TeddySF, have you been keeping up with “our Chris” on Project Runway? Great night for him.
No idea but i doubt it at the rate restaurants open and close in philly. Wow, that was over ten years ago!
Hey Margot,
Thanks for the “friend.” I opened email this morning to you, Betsy, Nom DePlume, and Eureka Springs! What fun! Really made my day.
Pantload: “hi, ole heckler!”
And take over the job after the vote is done :)
And then there is the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR)…so presumably those Socialists who wanted to create a big Soviet were “Republicans”.
Not a Democrat in sight!
They’re all in Siberia…!
suprise, surprise!
Account of C.I.A. Tapes Is Challenged
from NYT > Home Page by MARK MAZZETTI and SCOTT SHANE
The former C.I.A. official who authorized destruction of videotapes of harsh interrogation of terrorism suspects had apparently been directed to save them.
And how is Philadelphia? We are from Wilmington DE, Chadds Ford PA and around, and miss it (the big city). We moved here 26 years ago, but still have all our family near there. I haven’t been in the city for 25 years.
Newtonusr still on?
Sorta Betsy… paperwork. What’s up?
tex, i bet he is planning his macworld day (i think the convention is this week)
EW is all over it, Ma’am…

If you had $500 to spend on a computer for a HS student, would you try for something new? Refurbished? What? We already have router and printer.
Yep. A student journalist interviewed me on an issue I am active on. The conversation came around to how he would report if he were in the industry…he said of course he could npt be open and honest but must do the will of the editor.
Honesty is not held highly…from cheating in schools to the board room. Parsing is as is monetary sucess.
Anything that does not run windowsfuckingvista.
Other than that, whatever.
I don’t know what 500 will buy you in your neighbourhood.
Apple refurbished Macs are available with the exact same warranty coverage that their new machines are, so i have a bit of confidence in them.
But $500 gets you nothing new or refurbished in the Mac line.
Now Now
I run Vista no problems… of course it’s not a $500.00 machine. Vista has some nice stuff in it. It does take some learning though… I have been using Pc since the early 90’s.. had to learn for work.
ergh. ok.
I thought that Vista was unstable.
Well, it’s true that I have become resigned to it. But I was profoundly cranky there for a while.
The Revolution Comes Like Thunder
We need to pull together more money for the girl. A reasonable figure would be around $1,500.00, maybe $1,000.00. Mac is too expensive. PC’s are much less suckie than they used to be.
I was even crankier when I found out that they had gone BACK to shipping with XP the week AFTER I made my emergency laptop purchase. And had to replace a perfectly good printer because HP did not have drivers for Vista.
I actually got a pretty decent laptop for $700CDN – before the recent kerfuffle in currency rates.
what about something like this?
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/ol…..8559783852
Lo-fucking Ell, Mary!
No fun if you are trying to put in a system you are building…. I had a few hiccups… Ended up needing a laptop sooo I got a dell 1720 with 2gigs memory with Vista ultimate, the gui is ok but not too happy with the command line they made a lot of changes to the OS that makes have to RTFM a lot… shit I hate read in manuals. Oh well need tp learn it any way… and yes drivers are a pain. Ms Will be releasing SP1 soon… I will have to look when… Ther are a lot of cool things and gadgets if you like them. Well back to Hotel California!
Cracked History, better than most efforts from the frauds in Hollywood:
“REDS!”
Once, we were giants!
And we read “The Masses“.
Woo Hoo, “The Masses was a graphically innovative magazine of socialist politics published monthly in the U.S. from 1911 to 1917, when government suppression shut it down. It was succeeded by The Liberator and then later the New Masses.”
So what, pray tell, is graphically innovative about FireDogLake?
It’s time for a Revolution… in print/html!
Dennis Kucinich was on Democracy Now. Amy had him comment on the same questions from the other three candidates. So you can see it all tied together. It was interesting. The war issue was a totally different policy for Dennis: Get out as multi national troops come in to keep order. All US troops put and begin diplomacy with Iran and Syria. Begin serious humanitarian repair and peace building.
To be fair the National Socialists (NSDAP) did have some Socialist elements in their agenda. But these programs were restricted to those of German blood and who contributed to the “State” (i.e. the Nazi Party).
Some of the 25 Points resemble much of the Republican agenda of today. Many I suspect Jonah would heartily endorse (well, not the stuff about eliminating Jews, of course).
1) We demand the unification of all Germans in the Greater Germany on the basis of the right of self-determination of people. That’s a call for expansion into German ethnic areas.
2) We demand equality of rights for the German people in respect to the other nations; abrogation of the peace treaties of Versailles and St. Germain.
Funny, it’s the Republicans who hold that International Treaties, Constitutionally a part of American Law, should be ignored and abrogated.
3)We demand land and territory (colonies) for the sustenance of our people, and colonization for our surplus population.
Lebensraum… or expansion when there is a need to control resources for the German people.
4)Only a member of the race can be a citizen. A member of the race can only be one who is of German blood, without consideration of creed. Consequently no Jew can be a member of the race.
5) Whoever has no citizenship is to be able to live in Germany only as a guest, and must be under the authority of legislation for foreigners.
Hmm! Sounds exactly like what the anti-immigration zealots are demanding. A Bracero program and rights only to be given to Citizens, not all who reside in the US.
6) The right to determine matters concerning administration and law belongs only to the citizen. Therefore we demand that every public office, of any sort whatsoever, whether in the Reich, the county or municipality, be filled only by citizens. See 4 & 5 above.
7) We combat the corrupting parliamentary economy, office-holding only according to party inclinations without consideration of character or abilities. Now that’s quite Anti-Republican. Of course the NAZI’s behaved more like Republicans on this once they took office.
8) We demand that the state be charged first with providing the opportunity for a livelihood and way of life for the citizens. If it is impossible to sustain the total population of the State, then the members of foreign nations (non-citizens) are to be expelled from the Reich. Hmm! Sounds oddly familiar!
Any further immigration of non-citizens is to be prevented. We demand that all non-Germans, who have immigrated to Germany since the [2 August 1914], be forced immediately to leave the Reich. That too!
9) All citizens must have equal rights and obligations.
The first obligation of every citizen must be to work both spiritually and physically. The activity of individuals is not to counteract the interests of the universality, but must have its result within the framework of the whole for the benefit of all Consequently we demand:
Abolition of unearned (work and labour) incomes. That is, an end to social welfare programs.
In consideration of the monstrous sacrifice in property and blood that each war demands of the people personal enrichment through a war must be designated as a crime against the people. Therefore we demand the total confiscation of all war profits. Of course this went back into the war economy, so the corporatists got it right back as social welfare from the State.
We demand the nationalisation of all (previous) associated industries (trusts).
We demand a division of profits of all heavy industries.
In this the Nazis were “socialist”…but they certainly rewarded capitalists who worked with them. It was only that the corporate interests were managed and folded into those of the State and Party. It’s actually quite similar to what the Republicans have done, rewarding campaign contributors with government largesse.
We demand an expansion on a large scale of old age welfare. This was, after all, the Depression. And the Nazis had to appeal to the growing mass of unemployed and destitute…and compete with truly socialist parties who were Democratic, including those in the Weimar Government.
We demand the creation of a healthy middle class and its conservation, immediate communalization of the great warehouses and their being leased at low cost to small firms, the utmost consideration of all small firms in contracts with the State, county or municipality. Again, pandering to the idea that banks and large corporations were owned by foreigners.
We demand a land reform suitable to our needs, provision of a law for the free expropriation of land for the purposes of public utility, abolition of taxes on land and prevention of all speculation in land.
We demand struggle without consideration against those whose activity is injurious to the general interest. Common national criminals, usurers, Schieber and so forth are to be punished with death, without consideration of confession or race. Hard-core law and order platform.
We demand substitution of a German common law in place of the Roman Law serving a materialistic world-order. IOW replacement of the Constitution based on rights with one that was “common law”…sounds practically “Huckabeen”.
The state is to be responsible for a fundamental reconstruction of our whole national education program, to enable every capable and industrious German to obtain higher education and subsequently introduction into leading positions. The plans of instruction of all educational institutions are to conform with the experiences of practical life. The comprehension of the concept of the State must be striven for by the school [Staatsbuergerkunde] as early as the beginning of understanding. We demand the education at the expense of the State of outstanding intellectually gifted children of poor parents without consideration of position or profession. IOW the interests of INDUSTRY and PATRIOTISM was to supplant anything like a liberal education with all that stuff about Universal rights and understanding other peoples. Kids who show obedient promise to these ends will be subsidized. And no foreigners.
The State is to care for the elevating national health by protecting the mother and child this was code for anti-abortion by outlawing child-labor, by the encouragement of physical fitness, by means of the legal establishment of a gymnastic and sport obligation, by the utmost support of all organizations concerned with the physical instruction of the young. IOW building a future military force.
We demand abolition of the mercenary troops and formation of a national army. Germany was banned from having a national army…and people and cities had established defense forces to defend themselves against Hooligan Nazis.
We demand legal opposition to known lies and their promulgation through the press. In order to enable the provision of a German press, we demand, that: a. All writers and employees of the newspapers appearing in the German language be members of the race: b. Non-German newspapers be required to have the express permission of the State to be published. They may not be printed in the German language: c. Non-Germans are forbidden by law any financial interest in German publications, or any influence on them, and as punishment for violations the closing of such a publication as well as the immediate expulsion from the Reich of the non-German concerned. Publications which are counter to the general good are to be forbidden. We demand legal prosecution of artistic and literary forms which exert a destructive influence on our national life, and the closure of organizations opposing the above made demands. Pretty clear mirrors to the building of a servile obedient Media that the Bush Administration has attempted. Plus the demands for English as the “National Language” is reflected in the above.
We demand freedom of religion for all religious denominations within the state so long as they do not endanger its existence or oppose the moral senses of the Germanic race. The Party as such advocates the standpoint of a positive Christianity without binding itself confessionally to any one denomination. It combats the Jewish-materialistic spirit within and around us, and is convinced that a lasting recovery of our nation can only succeed from within on the framework: The good of the state before the good of the individual.
Whoa…this sounds almost identical to the Wedge of the Intelligent Design movements “Discovery Institute” (of course, “Jewish” is removed…but they clearly imply such when they prate on about Marx and Freud…oh, and Darwin.
For the execution of all of this we demand the formation of a strong central power in the Reich. Unlimited authority of the central parliament over the whole Reich and its organizations in general. The forming of state and profession chambers for the execution of the laws made by the Reich within the various states of the confederation. The leaders of the Party promise, if necessary by sacrificing their own lives, to support by the execution of the points set forth above without consideration. Unitary Executive, anyone?
I’d get a refurbished laptop with a decent set of software. She’s likely not going to be doing advanced work on it (animated graphics, etc.) for a few years more. She may build a web site, want to download some files (get decent anti-virus, trojan protection). But I would not splurge on anything for a few years until she enters college. THEN she will be eligible for COLLEGE discounts at the University Bookstore and her field of consideration may require a better computer. But at any decent University there are also very good computer labs, so she likely won’t need anything really fancy until she’s a soph or junior. Then she may have to upgrade. Especially if she gets into something like Design, Computer Science, Engineering or like technical fields.
Most students use their computers for word-processing, with a little bit of graphic editing. Some have web-sites. But mainly it’s for entertainment…storing music files, photoshopping, stuff like that.
From which, the Pantloaded One cherrypicked the old age welfare bit and claimed they really were teh socialists.
There were a couple of hecklers during the Jay Leno show last night when Bill Maher was on. Leno and Maher commented on it briefly saying it must have had to do with the writers strike. I think the first one shouted something about Kucinich not being allowed to debate and the second one shouted something about impeachment. They went to commercial pretty quick when the one shouted what sounded like “Impeach”. Leno and Maher did their best to ignore the hecklers. Too bad.

Tim Russert and Brian Williams are trainwrecks. And these trainwrecks are questioning a potential president! Russert always looks constipated to me.
Pumkinhead and Williams were pretty relentless in the beginning. It wasn’t until (what seemed to me) the smaller part of the last half of the debate that policy and legislative record was discussed. Pumpkinhead made the debate as dull as possible with the gender/race baiting. Even after the heckler. I would have loved to hear Edwards speak more on second chance schools, or have Obama state his position on No Child Left Behind more clearly (sounds like he doesn’t want to scrap it.) For some voters, this is the only chance they get to hear the positions, (beside the commercials.) Pumpkinhead obstructed that.
For a topic you might suggest he write on the Republican Party’s idea that ‘government is the enemy’ and how that idea has manifest itself in policies and government behavior that Democrats find offensive or even criminal.
That might be hard to cover in 300 words, but it is a major difference in the party’s.
Oh, and he should just write from the heart, like John Edwards does. :-)
