Via -- yes, Hotair -- last night was a childish pigpile on the part of GOP:
I'm told that the Romney campaign and the McCain campaign spoke tonight to arrange a time for McCain to give his concession and to allow Mitt Romney his opportunity to give the victory speech. I am told by a source sympathetic to McCain that after making the arrangement, Romney went ahead and spoke at the same time McCain was giving his, bumping him off the airwaves.
Then McCain cut off Huckabee -- class acts all around.
Speaking of St. John the Divine -- did anybody catch Lieberman standing dutifully at his side looking like the doting little woman? The only one who looked more ridiculous was the inappropriately grinning Lindsey Graham. I guess nobody told him McCain just had his ass kicked.
Lieberman made robocalls to Democrats, imploring them to cross over and vote for McCain. (Very active Michigan Democrat Marcy Wheeler got 5 of them -- the notion that Democrats were not targeted, as the McCain campaign contends, is pure horseshit).
At least Holy Joe had the good sense to look gastrically pained at McCain's demise.
And with good reason. I don't really know where Lieberman goes from here if McCain is gone as a political lifeline. He loses any value he has to the Democrats in the senate if they pick up any seats, and by stabbing the presidentials he marginalizes himself on that front too.
BTW, looks like CFL platform is alive and well in California...really sharp political instincts, that one.
Wonder if the Clintons are sorry now they didn't put him out of our misery when they had the chance? Really is a delightful irony that he is now campaigning against them.

Jane!
Hi, Jane!
no 2?
I’m still predicting nomination deadlock come convention time for the Repugs, and maybe for the Democrats too.
I betcha!
Oh well, number 3. Good post, off to get some work done! See you later at the next “break.”
You may be right, but I bet you revise your predictions the night of Feb. 5.
I was disgusted by what went on in CT. Really grotesque.
Lieberman has about as much political muscle as GW Bush- who will lose another election for the pathetic gooper party.
He always has one version or another of that “gastric pain” look on his face. BTW, thank you from the bottom of my heart for not making us look at your stock Liberman photo: him and that dog in the red clothes.
OT:
Emails…where the hell are those emails. It seems that Dems are not taking calls on this issue.
Jane said: Really is a delightful irony that he is now campaigning against them.
And oh, so predictable.
J-Lie 4 J-Lie…always.
He’s sealed his own fate….shoulda grabbed the Lott-out option while he had the chance. Unless he’s relying on the little woman to bring in the big bucks.
“looking like the doting little woman”
That is some charged up language. Lieberman is a puke an all.
Huck (dreaming of grilled squirrels): “fo’ sizzle, mo-fo!”
I live in Lantos district and have never heard of Yul Kwon and I keep up with everything that I possibly can. What is holy Joe thinking of - Jackie is a great candidate and will win. Can’t imagine anything else.
Yul Kwon won the Survivor: Cook Islands teevee show.
Jackie Speier survived being shot in Jonestown, Guyana, when Congressman Leo Ryan was killed.
Easy to see who RGJoe would support.
And what good, exactly, is Lieberman doing Old Lord McCain in South Carolina? I don’t see his perpetual whine being much help. Maybe no one knows how to tell him to go home.
Lieberwurst has impecable political timing- turnin gooper just as they go down for the third time.
How does he DO it?
In response to your downstairs question — it was snark.
Bullseye, as per usual.
Leiberman has always been in the valueless category to me along with people like Imhoff, Kyle, and the Lieberman’s home girls, the Bobsie Twins in the Senate from Maine, Duh Susan Collins and More Duh Olympia Snowe (with an “e” which took her until her Jr. year in high school to spell).
That cutting edge, prescient, insightful Congress is holding it’s umpteenmillionth hearing on Iraq, in which Democrat Loretta Sanchez helped me realize I’m watching people out of Kafka and Satre. She exclaimed brightly “The Surge is Working, but I see it as a tactic.” (Smily Face on Sanchez).
I’d like someone to predict for me when it will dawn on the American people that the fiasco of death and money hemorrhage in Iraq is here to stay forever no matter who they elect, and the Iraq Fiasco ain’t the OJ Trial and the O.J. Trial ain’t the Nevada primary.
Don’t watch that TV show but it doesn’t qualify him to be in Congress. Have known Jackie for something like 40 years - what a great and strong person.
Perfecto.
I’m pickin Grampa John and the Hillster to slug it out in November. The Hillster will win by bringin out the picture of McCain suckin the Shrubbery’s armpit on national teevee.
Never had grilled squirrel..fried squirrel legs are quite good, however.
Yes, on all points.
Lieberwurst has impecable political timing- turnin gooper just as they go down for the third time.
How does he DO it?
lol. Practice, practice, practice…
Not sure you were there in an earlier thread when we were ragging on this:
http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/063883.php
That should make a loverly parade float, design to be duplicated around the country.
Contrary to conventional wisdom, I think Romney would be our toughest opponent in November.
Why? By then, I suspect the economy is going to in very rough shape. In a recession the American voter might be looking for someone with strong economic credentials. Romney, much more than any other Republican candidate, has that selling card.
I’m pickin the Hillster to go down hard come Feb. 5. I’ve never seen a more hypocritical person in my life. The only battle she’s managed is the battle between the deserts and Bill’s Tummy in the White House Kitchen, and not one of the Candidates has done anything but paint any policy initiative in broad brush strokes.
There has been no details on any policy proposed, and escept for Dodd there hasn’t been a peep out of these candidates on the Civil Liberties demise and the Constitution’s shreeding and what they propose to do about it.
I was delighted to vote against the Hillary Girl this afternoon. And it wouldn’t have made any difference if she were the Hillary Boy.
Message to all of you up in arms over perceive mysogyny–any informed voter voting Hillary down is voting against her hypocrisy, her votes in the Senate, and her stance.
And when Jeralyn Merritt says “Obama’s just not ready yet as she said last night–I’d love to ask Jeralyn to tell me how the hell Hillary is ready from what experience and for what?”
OT:
Fitz is the one to first report those 5 million missing emails. Awww geee we taped over the backups. We are smart enough to say this 1 minute before the deadline but shucks we are so “dumb” we taped over our archive…. guess we should have had the inventor of the internets as president. WTF happend to those emails!
Josh picks up AP reporting that Ron Paul’s the only R who’s running ads in Nevada, and none of them had stepped foot in the state in 2 months. What a win that would be!
http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/063905.php
Sorry except for Dodd there hasn’t been a burp about Civil Liberties out of the 3 people debating last night in any substantive way.
Edwards’s hasn’t found that as a cause he should be fight for. Hillary is going to vote for every possible way to screw your Civil Rights, and Obama has paid a little lip service to the rape of Civil Rights.
Because of this, you have McConnell planning out in the open to have your internet service wiretapped. You have a billion dollar biometric tracking service now that has a 20% accuracy at night courtesy of the FBI. Check it out in this month’s New Yorker.
But that’s where cHucklebee had the killer line: People don’t want to vote for prez for the man who laid them off.

This poll result is a mind bender. Sure we know that Clusterfuck has only about 33% Job Approval- but it’s really WORSE than that. Only 17% want any more of his direction- 79% want nothin more to do with anything he wants, plans, or talks about- but here’s the thing- that 17% is about 99% gooper- so they represent about half of the gooper voters….this makes life very tricky for gooper candidates. They can’t reject the fuckwad entirely or they lose the primary- but if they EMBRACE him IN ANY WAY–it will lose em the general election….
Somethin bout cats high steppin on an electric line.
These guys have a narrow line to walk- and it oughta be easy to shove em off the fence….
I think they’re fucked.
Thanks for the link..the legs are about the only thing worth eating on a squirrel.

Do you ever stop campaigning?
Great question to ask. But you can bet they’ll never see the light of day, and you won’t get the straigh answer you’re entitled to as to what happened to them.
OT..More news from the surge:
I tell you PhysioProf–I try to forget the election. But if you ever start reading these comments, you’ll find out I’m hardly the only one to express a reason for voting one way or the other.
I thought the headline up top was “Hi Mitt” and I saw a few comments before mine praising Hillary. I’ thought I’d add my evaluation. There’s never a gun in your face to read them. You’re free to ignore them if they’re not up to your standards.
OT

At last count about 75% of the posts in the last 4 weeks at FDL have to do with the campaign and of those about 75% are “campaigning” or advocating their reasons why they prefer or don[’t prefer a dcandidate. Be sure to ask all of them the same question. You’ll get an array of interesting answers. Has that occured to you?
Actually Pete, on this thread, you are the first person praising one of the Presi candis. NO one else had mentioned her other than that she screwed up by backing Lieberman in the primary.
I should be nice and stay off this thread. Anymore, Lieberman REALLY brings out my inner potty mouth.
FOD, Shortride.
I think the only person I despise more than hojo (outside the current admin, of course) is Lindsay Graham.
Actually Pete, on this thread, you are the first person praising one of the Presi candis. NO one else had mentioned her other than that she screwed up by backing Lieberman in the primary.
It’s been my experience that no matter what the topic of the headline, there isn’t a homogenous tone to any of these threads. I’ve posted in context to the headline topic a lot of times, but you’re going to see ectopic causes in the posts.
If any post offended your sensibilities, I’m really sorry, but I haven’t detected any preferred subject matter yet in comments. Take a look at all the threads yesterday and just scan the comments.
Lieberman really is an unpleasant character. It is so hilarious that he picked this moment to throw his lot in with the Republicans.
On a not so funny note: Can we really be sure that he would not get some cabinet position with a Clinton or Obama presidency? (I can’t picture Edwards even talking to him.)
Anyone here from CT who can inform what the CT Ds are contemplating about LIEberman? I guess he’s officially out of the party, so perhaps there’s nothing they can do.
OT..Thugs plan for the failing economy:

I hear they’re planning to TP his house.
How about Ambassador to Israel, killing two birds with one stone (all apologies to birds for the obvious ond to English majors for the cliche).
I was just pointing out that the only praising of Hillary that had occurred on this thread was in your imagination.
Many commenters here know the difference between comments and a blog-within-a-blog. It’s like porn, I can’t define it but I know it when I see it. just sayin’.
Damn, that just boggles the mind. Do these people have no shame?
Christo like, in orange?
Better go to the train station for the free TP, the airport stalls are fresh out.
Am I the only New Yorker who thought the Gates sucked?
Not in CT now but did see a story that Short Ride had re-registered as a Dem very quietly. This was after the CFL party was taken over by someone who set the rules that made Short Ride ineligible to be a member of CFL (IIRC).
Little kown fact: Western Europe standards of living are just as high as U.S., on a labor-hour-worked basis. U,S, works longer hours & has more stuff, Europeans work fewer hours & have more leisure. I’m sure what my preference is. How about you?
I thought they did until I went to see them. I found them strangely intriguing. I went on a sunny April (iirc) afternoon. The orange color banners & low yellow toned sunlight worked for me. I was pleasantly surprised.
And again if you thought all comments should be confined to Leiberman in this thread, I’m sorry I didn’t pick up on that. That doesn’t seem to be happening, but in all sincerity I’m sorry if I didn’t pick up on that. If the only information I had on HRC is that she backed Leiberman in the primary, that’d be a metaphor for her performance in the Senate and for her phony page out of the Rove book fear mongering last night. I don’t see a scintilla in her that exudes more experience that would show up in any situation that makes her better than Obama or
Edwards.
I do understand that when at FDL you advocate for Obama, against Edwards or HRC it seems to ruffle an awful lot of feathers. Take a peek tonight in Nevada, the next few days at SC, Florida, and Sup Tue. You’ll find I’m not exactly the Lone Ranger.
Wow. I didn’t see that LIEberman had re-registered as a D. Is that kosher, after the election?
I wonder when McCain will get the memo that things are slipping away quite drastically?
Then we’ll be back to hearing the same pre-surge arguments…..
-G
No Pete, I was just pointing out that you were the only one who had seen comments praising Hillary on this thread before you started praising Obama. See your comment @ 39 responding to PhysioProf.
Who would have guessed that the first congressman indicted for laundering terrorist money would be a GOP-er?

Re The Huckster:
Let it not be forgotten that, just yesterday, he proposed that the Constitution of the United States of American be amended as necessary in order to more closely reflect teh bible.
I’d hate to see this *very* important and radical position fade to black in the collective memory of voters.
I have spent huge amounts of time in Central Park over the years, walking, running, and riding my bike. I thought they looked so jarring and out of place in the context of Central Park, which is a contrived “wild space”, that I couldn’t enjoy the installation directly as a visual experience.
I did really enjoy the fact that so many people did seem to be enjoying it, however.
I found this through Google and Kos but I know it happened a few months ago.
Raising hand.
Make it stop. Please. Just make.it.stop.
in which I respond to myself:
Wolfie’s gonna have a piece on Huck’s theory of constitutional principles on sometime this hour…
Just in time for the flood from global warming.
I always have thought of CP as man-made, which is why I don’t find human additions (of which, overwhelming, there are humans) jarring. It’s a great space, but wild has little to do with it.
Go to Inwood Park if you want to experience what Manhattan was before. (You have to ignore the sounds of jets overhead, though.) http://www.nycgovparks.org/sub....._park.html
I don’t think that’s ever going to happen, or this cycle will ever stop. And if you check out what scores of Democrats are saying in Congress, they are uttering the pre-surge statements. Not 30 minutes ago, I heard Loretta Sanchez, tell the House Armed Services Committee the “surge was working.” Nothing could be further from the truth, so Democrats in Congress couldn’t be more cowed, snowed, or eating out of Bush’s hand.
By the way, have you heard any Democratic candidate have the guts to say “the surge is a disaster” because that’s precisely what it is.
During the next few years, you will hear scores of excuses to keep the sons and daughters of lower socio-economic class families in Iraq proferred by the elitsia who wouldn’t dream of having their kids over there.
Lieberliar looked literally letdown. I wonder if he sees the writing on the walls or will “change” parties after the general election if the Dems pick up enough seats to shitcan him from any juicy committee positions.
If the Dems control the Senate, they ought to send Joe to the most junior and ignominious positions possible, since he is after all the “junior” senator from CT.
Joe Lieberman is just struggling to stay relevant. He may be a swing vote but he’s burned to many bridges to be that influential. I don’t think he has any real convictions, he’s just hangin around with John McCain so that he can be the maverick of the senate if McCAin gets elected. boooo. Check out what Veracifier says at Veracifier.com. They know what they are talking about.
Very confusing. But I suppose that is on purpose.
Read last week that the standard of living in great Britain is now higher that the US…for the first time since the 19th Century. Another Thug milestone reached.
All the nitwit Democrats have to do is point out what is going on around the Middle East outside of Iraq.
Aghanistan is in chaos.
Pakistan is on the brink of civil war. If you didn’t hear a Pakistan military outpost was overrun today.
Israel and Palestine are heating up a new Intafada.
Iran is telling Bush to STFU and the regional Arab powers, Saud’s and Egypt are making nice again with Iran.
Turkey is invading Iraq on a weekly basis.
Al Qaeda is putting out more videos than Hollywood, though they are apparently honoring the strike for the moment.
Yep, that strategy to promote regional stability in order to reduce terrorism has been a real winner.
-G
Yep, I saw that too. But let not facts get in the way. Everybody shout together: U.S. IS BEST IN EVERYTHING.
It’s just more of short Ride trying to have things all ways.
Hey, my 79 is relevant as a response to you too.
So, I have to ask. What is the origin of Short Ride? That’s one I missed.
You could be entirely right. The debate pissed me off so much last night, I guess it bled into my comment.
I’m trying to wean myself from the whole election–and it’s not working. Every time I try to forget about politics, I pick up a paper or hit a website and see Mukasey or McConnell has pushed for one more way to spy on me and it makes me want to drive the Republicans out of the White House and Congress forever. I hope you’ll take a look at the article in the New Yorker this month.
I’ve heard one crazy speech in Senate Judiciary or on the floor of the House or Senate too many. I wish some times, I had no interest in the whole thing. I absentee voted today on the worst possible Deibold touch screen. I was thinking how easily my vote could be hacked. I guess the election was on my mind.
IIRC it’s because the state passed a law allowing Catholic hosptials to refuse to give out the morning after pill to rape victims. He supported the hospitals and is supposed to have stated “it’s only a short ride to another hospital.”
Absolutely. That’s why I said “contrived”. It was very carefully designed to look wild.
Bill Clinton is appearing in Eureka, CA this evening. Here’s what an activist friend of mine is proposing be asked of the man:
(COPY>
A few questions for asking Mr. Clinton:
1) Why do you feel there is no mention of the criminality and outright treasonous acts of these so-called leaders that brought us the Iraq tragedy? And being true, why are we not addressing that first, rather than talking about being there to win something or have our presence for years, if it’s not all about getting their resources?
2) Considering the truth of what got us this nightmare in Iraq ,why is Mrs. Clinton continuing to talk aggressively about it and our further presence there?
3) What is to be done about impeachment proceedings in your mind and why does this shape up as some kind of partisan issue rather than everyone, regardless of party, being ready to remove anyone who has committed such acts?
4) If you were president, what would you be doing regarding the massive evidences of the Truth of 9/11…and reopening the Commission immediately?
5) With this obviously fatally flawed electoral processes, why are we bothering to carry on primaries leading to the same results, without first resolving this issue?
6) What does Mrs. Clinton plan to do for the mounting thousands of returning veterans suffering from massive physical injuries and life altering mental break downs from being victimized by this needless war?
7) What will Mrs, Clinton do to eliminate our mercenary armies, before they have so much power they are not only this ongoing threat to other cultures, but to us?
8) Considering the massive implications of Global Warming and your awareness of this even during your administrations, why would you have first promised to protect forests in northern California and then traded it off for corporate support of boom-and-bust.com economic policy?
9) Why does Mrs. Clinton campaign for a guaranteed profit contract for “health” through insurance companies over a nonprofit single-payer system?
10) Why does Mrs. Clinton support recruiting for the military on Campuses, considering it inspires such ongoing tragedies and furthers the causes of so much criminal violence?
Also the origin of the “Rape Gurney Joe” name as well for the same reason I believe.
I think I figured out the problem. Coming to FDL to wean yourself from the election is like going to Murphy’s Tavern to wean yourself from Irish whisky.
Duh. I used to know that.
Thanks. I never knew where that came from. I had seen it here all the time. After everything I’ve read or heard of Leiberman, that he’d make that kind of statement as bad as he is surprises me. Wow.
Talk about a disaster. Watching the ship going down while a bunch of deckhands tell you about how wonderful the food, the weather and the music is.
Blecch.

I’ll drink to that.

My Chinese delivery just arrived. And there’s only so much you can say about Lieberman. Astounded to see his mother’s age, though. That was new news to me.
China Fun?
Jing Du.
And Mrs. Bilbo finally arrived home. We’re off to have dinner. See all you firedogs tomorrow.
Haven’t tried that. China Fun has been my preferred for years.
