Polling accurately in Nevada is tough to do, and ARG has Ron Paul in fifth place (9%) while Research 2000 has him in sixth (6%). But the Associated Press says the Paulistas just might strike it rich in Vegas:
Republican candidates have stayed away from the diverse electorate and unfamiliar electoral landscape as Nevada voters weigh in earlier than ever before.
No major GOP candidate has set foot in the state for two months, and some Republicans are bracing for a possible surprise first-place showing by long-shot Texas Rep. Ron Paul, the only Republican to broadcast TV ads in Nevada.
He beat Rudy Giuliani like a drum in Michigan. And the Michigan GOP thinks McCain won. The party is in complete disarray, with a pack of flawed candidates and no clear winner emerging. It’s hard to imagine anything making the GOP presidential race any more chaotic, disorganized and comical than it is, but a Paul victory in Nevada could do it.
It’s a long shot, but I’m pulling for him.

ZED!
Ha
Well, this could make the Republican convention even more interesting.
the loonies are running the asylum
I have been conditioned to try to figure out the nefarious angle that the mainstream media have in touting one or another candidate, and I admit I am coming up short. Paul is way down in the polling, yet AP is claiming he “could win”. Why are they doing that?
Oh, sorry: Hi, Jane!
sport?
yes Hi everybody
I left you a link & a comment downstairs.
TradMed trying to pre-discredit Nevada and a possible Edwards victory there?
remember good Republicans like say,Eisenhower?
yup…..marginalize
Because, as the post says, Paul is actually paying attnetion to the state while the rest of the Gooper’s are ignoring it. Plus, I’d say there will be a small turnout for them which means a dedicated few can cause big problems.
Hi, all.
TSF: That’s an interesting idea. They are trying to make Nevadans seem like loonies. You think like a real conspiracy theorist!
I hope everyone knows that the Nevada caucuses are nonbinding for the Republicans.
I am impressed that Ron Paul has gotten 5 percent in each state so far. Dennis Kucinich could not pull that off last time.
EPU’d from last thread:
OT– but many Firepups are concerned about good journalism, so this is for us: The quote below is from Newstrust.net’s weekly newsletter:
What follows is a list, with abstracts, of their most highly rated articles of the day.

However, the Kooch did well in caucus states.
Bob, I really enjoy NewsTrust and thank you for turning me on to it!
Polls are two days old, primary is in three days. Is it really plausible that such a huge swing could occur in that time frame? (Yeah, NH polling was all wrong.)
Ah but especially in caucus states, polling doesn’t really reflect those who will go and take the effort to caucus. It probably wouldn’t take a lot of extra effort for the Paul supporters to make a splash in a state the size of NV.
Perhaps, but that’s good news for the GOP.
(I’m not sure why, mind you. It’s just that everything that happens is good news for the GOP. Right?)
OT: Economist Joe Stiglitz sez:
(QUOTE)
the U.S. economy risks tumbling into recession because of the “mess” left by former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan. “I’m very pessimistic,” Stiglitz said in an interview in London today. “Alan Greenspan really made a mess of all this. He pushed out too much liquidity at the wrong time. He supported the tax cut in 2001, which is the beginning of these problems. He encouraged people to take out variable-rate mortgages.”…
Paul’s immigration policies ought to go over well with GOPers in a Latino state:

Well after midnight last night, CNN had folks on air spinning 3 percent in Michigan as very good for Rudy.
“Bob, I really enjoy NewsTrust and thank you for turning me on to it!”
Thanks! I’m glad that at least one other Firepup appreciates that outfit!

I guess I am just so cynical at this point that I can’t believe that the reason AP wrote the article in the way they did is because of some dispassionate assessment that Paul really has a shot.
Ray;
Watched first of three-part ‘…Nightmare’ series.
Left review for you on ‘begging for oil’ thread’.
Excellent, best description of Struassian Neo-Con yet by media (BBC).
Well after midnight last night, CNN had folks on air spinning 3 percent in Michigan as very good for Rudy.
lol. Well, he *did* kick that “Uncommitted” guy’s ass, right?
ummm, right?
Here’s another pup who’s interested in the NewsTrust. Thanks for the info.
Thanks ECAHN for the Ron Paul succinct immigration policies.
Just gone home from training for a few days. Lots to catch up on at the lake. It was hell watching the Democratic debate last night enduring the ignorant Russert questions especially.
What would a Ron Paul victory speech be like?
Thanks. I concur about complexity.
Like a Ron Paul stump speech with smiles.
Ya can’t omit Brian! I thought the true winner of the debate was the heckler! BTW, wasn’t that a first in Prez debate history, the moderators being heckled…? ;-)
Have you ever seen Ron Paul smile? Creepy.
I’m sure Romney would schedule his classic “silver medal” speech to overlap with it. CNN would go to a split screen, and turn the sound up on both speeches. Faux would assure viewers that this is bad news for the Dems. MSNBC would have Tweety sputtering over Paul, Keith shaking his head over Tweety, and Pat Buchanan arguing with Bay Buchanan for no apparent reason.
And Comedy Central would be archiving it for posterity. “Who needs writers, when we’ve got this?”
Speaking of Nevada. Perhaps this is the icing on the cake for us as to how much we adore Senator H.R. Clinton:
From the NY Times:
“Clinton does carry significant support among Nevada party regulars, including Rory Reid, a Clark County Commissioner who also happens to be the son of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (Nev.).”
They’re siblings. Siblings don’t need reasons for arguing. Just part of the standard rules package.
It does write itself…! Truth is stranger than fiction…
Didn’t see the debate. Anyone have a youtubies of that?
I couldn’t bear watching past the first break by myself. I heard the heckler. Did they allow him to stay for the whole debate? Or did they throw him down and taze him? I couldn’t quite hear what he was saying, but I thought it might match my own comments yelling at the screen. Dumb ass, why don’t you ask questions that we care about? Oh yeah, he doesn’t know what we do care about.
Corrected it for you.
*g*
Oh, and Buchanans always win. Even when they don’t. (Where do you think the GOP learned that nifty “it’s always good news for the GOP” trick?)
Much fun live commentary threads last night. Couldn’t have listened without FDL company.
We don’t much care for Ron Paul or his flawed Republican opponents. That’s what we like so much about Hillary. The Senator is so unflawed. We’re thinking of Iraq, Iran, big pharma, WalMart, Rupert Murdoch, and the DLC, etc., here. Our view is that a Presidential Clinton is fraught with possiblities.
It’s a two-fer then since it is in their nature genetically AND they are brother and sister so I guess they get a double whammy
We are in favor of President Edwards.
Are the Rs having a Nevada debate? With only Ron Paul on stage?
And with Hillary you get two. Too.
Is it fall guy’ time’?
AP – The CIA official who gave the command to destroy interrogation videotapes apparently acted against the direction of his superiors, the top Republican on the House Intelligence Committee said Wednesday.
I think whatever gives the Repug Party gas is great. And Ron Paul supporters are definately doing that. About every third or fourth call into CSPAN’s Washington Journal is a Paul supporter. I think it’s great. During the New Hampshire election FOX completely ignored his numbers and this morning CNN did an interview with what they called the fourth place Michigan winner Fred Thompson. Unless they found about 20,000 votes for Fred after I went to bed………I don’t think he was fourth. He is treated like the “retarded” or disfigured kid in the classroom. “Don’t stare, Johnny, it’s not polite”

OMG. It’s getting so you can’t even trust a Republican or a Saudi (9-11).
WASHINGTON – A former congressman and delegate to the United Nations was indicted Wednesday on charges of working for an alleged terrorist fundraising ring that sent more than $130,000 to an al-Qaida supporter who has threatened U.S. and international troops in Afghanistan.
Mark Deli Siljander, a Michigan Republican when he was in the House, was charged with money laundering, conspiracy and obstructing justice for allegedly lying about being hired to lobby senators on behalf of an Islamic charity that authorities said was secretly sending funds to terrorists.
The 42-count indictment, unsealed in U.S. District Court in Kansas City, Mo., accuses the Islamic American Relief Agency of paying Siljander $50,000 for the lobbying — money that turned out to be stolen from the U.S. Agency for International Development.
BTW, I’m a little concerned about my name being published in the Congressional Record, I may be within the first batch, if not, I know I’ll be in the second batch… *g*
Another day of political bafflement and foreign intrigue. My lady has made the suggestion that one way I can maybe alleviate my confusion over these matters is to perhaps concentrate my attention on two huge root beer floats. I think she’s right.
Doesn’t matter. NSA has been keeping records on all of us since at least 01. You would be in good company, but I’m afraid we’ll each be kept in isolation.
Well wouldn’t this be a sweet scenario?
Our view is similar to yours, perhaps a little bit less jaundiced, but very similar.
I’m a little worried about the ‘No Fly’ list, personally! I’d have a long way to paddle if I couldn’t fly…! ;-)
I’m so glad you brought that up. I just flew back & forth from Salt Lake City, so I guess I’m not on it yet. Whew.
I just read the previous thread about Obama talking about Reagan.
Here’s why I don’t think Obama is ready to be president: He doesn’t believe in the vast right-wing conspiracy.
ok, this is REALLY sick, oboma actually thinks what reagan did was a GOOD thing!
ya, the man responsible for destroying the middle class, the man responsible for Iran contra and funding al qaeda
that reagan and THIS oboma;
this is one uninformed ignorant man
Get out of Iraq. Now.
And the Dems in Congress are promulgating a resolution to condemn the Republican party for harboring this traitorious hater of America and the troops, a stain on their entire party, right? And the Republicans are going to join in the resolution, condemning this kind of pernicious behavior by a Republican Congressman, right?
Yet another reason!
Hi gang, I heard my first Ron Paul radio ad today “the taxpayer’s friend.” I think it was on KCBS but I was channelsurfing like mad at the time. This is SF Bay Area. Plus I’m seeing an increase of RP bumper stickers.
IOKIYAR!
Wow. That’s really great news. Link? /snark
Oh, jeez, I haven’t flown in the last few yrs. I just booked an April flight. Hope I make it on board. (There isn’t a cross-check against those who donate to Move-On I hope.)
O/T
Jane: will we be treated to a Jose Padilla update sometime? I think I heard something about sentencing not going so well…just asking.
thanks.
I’ve donated to move-on, so I guess they haven’t gotten the lists coordinated yet.
It is interesting that he was ’shocked’ at the number of people who support impeachment, ‘SHOCKED’.
Thanks for link, bigbrother.

Seems so to me as well, perris.
the GOP would be a-Pauled
Prof this is such an appropriate name for a ‘universal’ not to say quintessential ‘American Dream/Nightmare’ linkerage. And to think that it actually exists. Will miracles nevah cease?
There is hope after (f)all.
Thanky (grinning broadley now …)
punaise;
Would that be an a-paul-cryphal term?
If Pon wins will we all have to a-paul-ogize for our snarkliness.
To the best of my knowledge Ike was the first and the last, none of the rest was/is worth a flying fuck!
Ron Paul takes Nevada. Fred’s going to win something…
Divvy all the other delegates up between the Mittster, Rudi and the Old Fart ,and what do you get?
You get a brokered convention…
DRAFT JEB!!!
