State Del. Lionel Spruill introduced a bill Tuesday to ban displaying replicas of human genitalia on vehicles, calling it a safety issue because it could distract other drivers.

Under his measure, displaying the ornamentation on a motor vehicle would be a misdemeanor punishable by a maximum fine of $250.

VERDICT: New Hampshire is unable to document its chain of custody properly, lacks written procedures, its secretary of state has said he doesn’t know where its memory cards are, and LHS has been encroaching on state elections with near-total control. I’ll be preparing a Special Report when I return from New Hampshire with documents and video to support this assessment.

VIDEO CAMERA CONFISCATION?

In New Hampshire, ballots are brought from each town and ward to a central location for recounts. We got a tip today that the location would be the state archive building, so we went there hoping for a walk-through.

There, police told us that videotaping the delivery of the ballots and the unloading of the ballots, would be prohibited and cameras would be confiscated if people were caught doing this. The rationale, we were told, was that they had placed the ballot delivery area in a state building with a parking lot that belonged to a mental hospital located on the grounds about a block away. On the theory that cameras might catch a mental patient wandering around and invade his privacy, all videotaping would be prohibited.

Now, there was 14 inches of snow yesterday and the drifts and mounds are up to 10 feet high, so the idea that a mental patient could even walk through this to the state archives to get their privacy invaded by a camera filming ballot unloading seemed preposterous. Paddy Shaffer got on the horn and called the chief of the “campus police” handling the mental hospital and he confirmed that cameras would be confiscated. We later alerted Secretary of State Bill Gardner, who called off the police video-busting rule.

SECRECY IN CHAIN OF CUSTODY

One official told us he thought the location of the delivered ballots should be a secret and that there would be no public observation of the intake process. We asked for the written procedures for the ballot intake and he said he hadn’t been provided with any. Another member of the secretary of state’s office said he could not confirm or deny that the ballots would be delivered to the archive building at all, and when you see the video of this you’ll see that this was evasiveness, not lack of information.

We received a verbal description of the check-in process, which included a list of locations coming in and a check-off sheet. When we asked about the observaton area the official left, then came back and said no ballots would be delivered to the archives. Later, we learned that they would, after all, be delivered to the archives but only one city at a time. No written procedures for any of this, and quite a confusing time was being had by all.

If Romney is their man, and I don’t see anyone beating him right now, and Romney tries this outsider who is going to reform and change Washington when he is Bush Redux position wise, I hope the Dems dissect what is a ridiculous position.

Can anyone give me some advice about Digg? I signed up for Digg recently so I could Digg posts on FDL, but I don’t really know much about the site. I received an e-mail from Digg that read as follows:

Nobody can opine meaningfully on the propriety of the court decision here without first knowing about, and then analyzing and resolving, those legal claims.

The Zogby/CNN poll had this a 1% race with McCain leading 27%-26% over Romney (15% for Huck). The American Research Center called it 31% to 30% McCain (19% Huck). The Detroit News also had it a 1% race (27% McCain, 26% Romney; 19% Huck). So where is all the commentary on just how flawed the polls are?

One would think that there is a story about the pattern of these “late surge” polls consistantly being wrong by large numbers. But nary a peep from the MSM.

So, I suppose the question is where was this snark in early 2001 when we really needed it?

I got here late and didn’t get the general reaction to the debates.

FWIW, I found Russert and (to a lesser extent) Williams to be embarrassing. By contrast, I was favorably impressed with the candidates.

I still favor Edwards, but now (for vague reasons) I feel better about Obama and Hillary than I did earlier.

A couple of months ago, an extremely bright friend of mine has had some official interactions with Hillary. He was amazed by her command of details. He said that for their meetings she was one of the best prepared people he has ever met. He said that she is either extremely bright or has an awsome staff; and probably both. Tonight for the first time, I got a sense of what he was talking about.

Brian Baird, the Bush dog Democrat who represents my conservative-voting district, who last night in front of a group of Democrats said (this is not word for word, but the gist of what he said): Who will get the blame for Iraq? If we (The United States military) stay a little longer, not us but the Iraquis. This is rather discouraging. Kucinich’s legal team apparently didn’t have a clue how to argue the case before the Nevada Supreme Court. Look for “Big Tent Democrat”’s comments in thi article for the explanation that Kucinich’s team failed to present the appropriate rejoinder to the flaming bullies from war profiteering NBC.
