Al Wynn sends out robocalls:
Hello, this is Congressman Albert Wynn. My opponents have invested in a massive media campaign of distortions and outright lies. Their ads claim I received vacations paid for by lobbyists. The truth is I was invited by trade associations such as the Railroad Association and minority business organizations to give keynote speeches and participate in panels during overnight and two-day business trips. Next they say I voted myself five pay raises. The truth is, that I and every member from our region voted for a cost-of-living allowance, or COLA, for federal employees. By law, members of Congress automatically receive one-half percent less than federal employees. I'm Albert Wynn, and I just wanted you to know the truth. Thank you.
When you're engaged in pushback, it's generally unwise to repeat your opponent's talking points. You risk making even more people aware of your shortcomings, and that's what this bizarre, rambling robocall probably manages to do.
Stoller says that Pelosi and the DCCC are under pressure to back up Wynn. They really need to stay out of this.
Go Donna.

Jane!!
Senator Obama. My lady and i have decided to vote for Hillary if the choice is between you and Senator Clinton. However, that decision is subject to change. Mr. Obama, we would like to invite you to change our minds.
If Al Wynn is doing robo calls this early in the year (although I don’t knw when the MD primary is held), it sosunds sorta like he’s running with a bit of fear.
Go, Edwards! Both of them… ;-)
It’s sickening to think that the Democratic elite are pushing for this guy against the true agent of CHANGE Donna Edwards. Arghhhhhhhh….
Edwards winds our clock. We like this man and his lady. Very much so.
When it comes to presidential timber, Edwards is solid oak.
Pelosi needs to stand up for real democrats
ironwood?
According to Donna Edwards webpage the Maryland primary is February 12.
Senators Clinton and Obama. Is there anyway we can talk you both into acting like states-persons?
But that requires a spine… 8-(
I’m going to volunteer some time for Donna. I live within a reasonable driving distance so I’m going to help her kick Al to curb.
Clinton and Obama. As you continue to enjoy your cocktail weenies on the circuit, in the coming months, do you think you might manage to throw us hungry Demo dogs a bone once in a while?
He needs to hang in until the convention..If/when Rezko blows up on Obama..it will be a new game.
Milleryman,
I’m going to a fundraiser for Donna on Sun in Montgomery County. Wanna come?
Senator Clinton and Obama. I admire you so much for speaking out against the Bush policy of war mongering.
Obama and Clinton. I almost forgot your many condemnations of Joe Lieberman. Thank you so much.
I can’t do Sunday, I have a previous comittement. My e-mail is millineryman at mac dot com, please drop me a line.
Lessee….wasn’t the topic of this post Al Wynn and Donna Edwards?
Pelosi needs to stand up for real democrats
Aren’t you assuming that she’d know one if she saw one?
Harry, Lieberman, Nancy, DiFi, Obama and Hillary. What a bunch of true leaders. Anyone want to disagree?
Oh my goodness. Are you attempting to spank me? ;0)
funny thing is, when I raised the issue of all of our “change candidates” walking the walk and endorsing Donna Edwards (and those like her) in the “what’s wrong with NOW” thread, you could hear a pin drop.
If we could do this for Donna we would be doing it for ourselves and it would certainly send a message to Ms. Pelosi.
I hear several now.
For msmolly:

You need to have a great country to have such leaders. Otherwise the country couldn’t survive the damage they do.
Hello, this is Congressman Al Wynn.
Some may say that my opponent is better qualified than I am.
Some may say that my opponent is more in tune with the views of my district.
Some may say that my opponent is more progressive than I am.
Some may say that my opponent is better at standing up to George Bush than I am.
Some may say that my opponent is better financed than I am.
Ha! That last one is wrong!!! Fooled you!
Thank you.
Of course, with a little love for Donna, all of these could be true.
That’s been my “nickname” for about 40 of my nearly 65 years. I have a neighbor who addresses emails to me, “GGMM”
And not meaning to pick on you, but 8 of the first 22 comments were yours about the presidential candidates. I am up to here *holds hand at eyebrow level* with the presidential race. I would love to take a little break and talk about something else.
But maybe that’s just me.
Ha! That is a really bad phone call. It’s almost like a push poll! What an idiot.
Don’t miss tomorrow morning’s “Pull Up A Chair,” where we take a break and talk about “stuff.” It’s fun, and a welcome change of pace for the weekend.
Well, gosh golly, Miz Molly, OKK wears his heart on his sleeve… *g*
I like discussing the Presidential race, but I’m really trying hard to not get into fist fights. Although I have a favorite, I try to accentuate the positive in all three top-tier candidates. Dkos is in meltdown. I have to ignore 90% of it.
OT - unfortunately i’ll be in a class when Muhammad Yunus will be here on Book Salon. But I will be able to go see him this Sunday here in Austin.
Attention Central Texas Firepups:
Muhammad Yunus will be at Book People in Austin at 1pm this Sunday. With a reception to follow at Whole Foods. link
DU, Huffpo,… ad nauseum… Circular Firing Squad keeps rearing its’ ugly noggin…
We need to get back to the truth, get the word out, and implement it:…
Who has the most power in the United States of America according to the Constitution???
Purportedly, ‘We the People’… 8-(
We do. It’s just that people don’t remember that. They think it is 1. The President, 2. Congress, 3. The Supreme Court, 4. The Military, 5. The Police, 6. Blackwater.
I want my country back, now.
Why you can pick on me all you want to. And I promise I will pick back. ;0)
Pitchforks and Lanterns…???
Based on what I hear on the TeeVee, it’s either God or Jesus. Is that right? :)
I’d say Congress has the most power, not counting the people who elect them.
I read PUAC regularly. It’s one of my favorite regular posts. I’m a FDL regular, but I mostly lurk.
After this week’s marathon “all Hillary/Obama/Edwards” and all of the navel gazing about the polls, and who’s up and who’s down, I’m just ready to read comments about something else.
Maybe I’ll just go finish my sewing project.
I’m really looking forward to Pull up a Chair…I’ve been trying to pull up my chair all day by doing stuff outside today, because it has just been too frustrating…just too much…this week.
That’s fine, pick away. I’m not thin skinned.
Oops, I left out the chamberpots… BTW, does anyone else think that Chuck Todd should’ve stayed at Hotline…?
Just in case folks missed the end of Jane’s post… Go Donna!
Bill Clinton is acting off the wall lately…what is up with that?
I am on overload on politics. (I miss “edit” — that’s “I’m aN FDL regular” @43.)
Since I’m on a Little Richard jag tonight. This is for you my love. Tomorrow night I’m takin’ you dancin’ in OK. City, lahoma.

Keith says there will be a recount in New Hampshire???
Sometimes I have to wonder if he isn’t a teensy bit jealous of the spotlight shining elsewhere.
Oooh, that’s turning me on.
I’m glad that DONNA EDAWARDS is taking it to Wynn. She’s the real think.
But I don’t see how this topic shifted over to JOHN EDWARDS?
I tried to find out what John Edwards WAS DOING in the years since he lost the campaigan back in 2004. Was he out there fighting cases for the underprivileged and making fees from that? How was he making money for his prospective run for the Presidency?
Apparently he broke up his joint law firm and started working as a coprporate lawyer for something called the Fortress Investment Group. Turns out this is a massive offshore hedge fund based in the Bahamas that offers wealthy investors a tax-shelter. Edwards was, according to his FEC filing paid $479,512 in salary from FIG!
And contrary to his assertion that he doesn’t take corporate money for his Presidential run just look at the number one source for his contributions (outside of contributions filtered through Blue America…which may also be from concealed corporate sources). Yep! #1 source of donations $188,000 is from… tada… Fortress Investment! Then Mr. “I don’t accept corporate donations” has $77,000 from Goldman Sachs; $54,750 from Deutsche Bank and $49,000 from Citigroup.
Oh…and a ton of lawfirms (of course, NO LAWFIRMS ever are lobbyists…no sireee, nope they never, ever lobby). Someone once said to me…but maybe these are “good lawyers” and only lobbyists for good causes. Well, then Edwards should say that, and show that each and every one of these LOBBYISTS are in fact only defending progressive interests. But I bet they are simply large lawfirms like Skadden Arps (big telecomm lawfirm).
Sheesh…you’re a cheap date. Lahoma, come get this guy! *g*
I read earlier that Kucinich had requested one.
Want to bounce msmolly?

I don’t watch Countdown until I can TiVo past the commercials, so I will catch it in a bit. What on earth? I read a very good, rational argument somewhere yesterday about why voting machines couldn’t possibly have affected the outcome. What gives?
Steve AR, thanks for that link on Obama in the Chicago Tribune last night. He doesn’t seem like such a “bridge to the other side” character after reading about his state campaigning, does he?
It is gone, far as I can tell…
Maryland Primary is Feb. 12
Ummmm….bounce?
Uh huh. Been wondering a little about sabotage - conscious or unconscious.
That would certainly put a crimp in the works, particularly, later on in Denver… added to the MI and FL fiascoes…

The Sun-Times is a Rupert rag..but these stories are pretty specific..
Fitz is taking Tony Rizko to trial on Feb 25.
That’s my feeling. He says things that are taped, and then he denies it. Weird. He seems different.
“I’d say Congress has the most power, not counting the people who elect them.”
However, they have apparently unilaterally decided not to use their powers, abdicating their use of impeachment power, and also apparently choosing not to push for contempt charges against the laggards who are ignoring their subpoenas. So, having emasculated themselves, they prefer to shadow box, making a great deal of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
Apparently they hope thereby to entice us into electing more shadow-boxers.

give Donna some digg love <3
OT, and appropriate to nothing visible on this thread, but the mods have asked me to point out that the use of certain words is pretty much going to guarantee your comment does not appear in the thread. Perhaps rewording it would help.
Thanks.
Hey, LS, thanks for all of your energy. Take a break as needed, but I’d really miss you if you burned out. I so miss AK.
Oh, thanks! I didn’t understand the term. Well, since I live in NW Indiana, it probably won’t be anytime soon, but I will keep it in mind. I’ve never been in many of the western states, including OK. I should probably take a road trip one of these days — maybe after I retire.
“Bill Clinton is acting off the wall lately…what is up with that?”
Perhaps Iowa scared the bejesus out of him, and he realized that the coronation of the Queen was not going to be a cakewalk?

Re:
Alas, it is also consistent with the conservative nature of the party since the 1970s to always try to dissuade progressives from running.
In the 1990s a good friend of mine named Harry Lonsdale ran for U.S. Senator from Oregon over two cycles. He wrote a book about his experiences called “Running”.
Harry was a sucessful entrepreneur, having started his own business and sold it off making enough money for a very plush retirement. Instead, he dove into politics. His views were akin to Russ Feingold’s or Paul Wellstone’s with a dash of Ralph Nader in the mix. Harry recieved zero financial support from the DPO, the Democratic Party of Oregon, in either race. He was actively discouraged by the DPO from running a second time after nearly prevailing in the first race by spending about $1 MM of his own money.
So, I don’t consider the controlling interests in the party to be remotely progressive (i.e. willing to tame the corporation and provide public utilities and help for the underdog). Nor should anyone be so naive. Remember the line about your “friends”? “Yeah, they’re the ones that stab you in the front.”
Sorta hard to translate that, if we have no clue what those words might be and this has been a very placid thread, so far. Maybe you mods should post a list or something (with appropriately placed asterisks)?
I’m just going to say this once … all right, I lie; I’ll probably keep mumbling about it for weeks. It’s OT, I know, but it bothers me:
If I have, say, 10 moderate precision estimates of something that all give about the same answer — for the heck of it, say that they are polls predicting the outcome of the NH primary — and I have one supposedly high-precision estimate — say, the primary itself — and the two estimates are in violent disagreement with each other, I TEND to look to see if something went wrong with the high-precision estimate: there only was one of those, but 10 of the other.
Where can I find ALL the low-precision polls and a detailed description of the progress of the high-precision primary? Should I worry that Diebold machines were used extensively in the primary, and that (Blacklisted News site) the person who programmed the machines has a shady background? That a candidate added votes in increments of 100? etc. etc.?
Should we all worry? Is this primary season being hijacked under the radar?
BradBlog has noted some interesting features of Diebold in New Hampshire, such as convicted drug dealers counting votes.
I do not know if these are actual and official numbers. But there is an interesting difference between hand counted and (evil) Diebold counted votes, making 49.049 a magic number.
Diebold HC: 91717, BO 81495 (47.0493 % for Barack).
Hand counted: BO 23509, HC 20889 (47.0494 % for Hill)
These numbers are such that a difference of one hand counted vote would have changed it to 49.050 % or 49.048 %. A difference of 4 votes (out of 173212) for (evil) Diebold counting would be needed for a similar difference from the magic 47.049 %. It could be a coincidence.
Here is a hopeful and positive piece on Edwards. This guy is well respected.
http://pundits.thehill.com/200.....n-edwards/
Forgive me but it made me feel better.
Keith saying machines are in areas where Hill polled better (cities) and Obama had more hand done ballots in rural areas where he polled better. Kucinich is calling for a recount.
I suppose this means that Kucinich will endorse Obama.
Am totally with you about DKos. Just looked at the top recommended diaries there, and half of them are pushing Edwards. That’s just the ones with Edwards in the name! Others may be doing the same. I didn’t read them.
Don’t know who is directing the PR for Edwards but the shameless promotion of him at Kos has become downright embarassing. And boring. And I like Edwards! It has been this way for months. Believe me I would love to see a pro-Hilary diary just for variety.
Have to say that my reading at Dkos is much less frequent now.
While I’m at it, I am getting pretty tired of all the bashing of Dem Presidential candidates. Sooner or later, most of us will be supporting one of them. Why trash them now?
Very interesting, ca.
NPR at 4 am (with BBC news) gave a report re: huge uprising of the people of Kenya protesting the stolen election there. At 8 am, NPR (this time American Public Radio News) began its broadcast. They began to tell the story about the massive public activism occuring in Kenya and then suddenly pulled the story - stating that they would get back to it. They never did run the story.
Did the Republicans in charge of NPR content make them pull that story?
Thanks so much!
Perhaps Bill needs some meds. He sometimes appears to act as though he’s gone bonkers. I don’t know. We voted for the man four times, two times in the general elections and twice in the Cali primaries. I don’t know what, if anything, that says about us. My lady thinks he has become somewhat bizarre.
There are many sad things about the last 7 years but I think the saddest is that we no longer trust our gov’t about anything - and we shouldn’t. I always thought that at least the vote was safe but not so much any more. I wonder if the people will ever quite feel good about the DC elite again.
Lahoma and I are prepared to say we like Obama as well as we like Hillary.
Re:
LS, the U.S. Constitution is abasolutely no impediment to form of government we have today.
My gut tells me so… *g*
I’m afraid we’ll learn why impeachment was off the table after Bush/Cheney are gone. And I think we’ll understand. Something is terribly wrong. Murder and war crimes do not have a statute of limitation, right?
I’m not excusing the lack of action, but I can’t help remembering when Pelosi said we don’t know the half of it.
Obama - Joe Lieberman is his mentor. Lots of aisle reaching. Hillary - Nukes are on the table. Lots of aisle reaching.
Edwards spent six years in the U.S. Senate. In that time, he championed policy initiatives such as raising the minimum wage, expanding the earned income tax credit, creating matching savings accounts for low-income families, and providing incentives for teachers to teach in low-income schools. Edwards also focused on poverty during last year’s presidential campaign.
UNC-Chapel Hill creates Center on Poverty, Work and Opportunity;
names former Sen. John Edwards as director
Something Edwards was doing in between elections.
Sigh. I’m okay…Mostly, I’m upset about Operation Phantom Phoenix in Iraq…I’m a bit eaten up over it.
Oh, and I was just wondering what happened to AK too???
Wynn: dick, see?
We in this house are beginning to think we will be reduced to supporting the ‘best of the worst’ of our party. HRC and Obama.
My opponents have invested in a massive media campaign

Lahoma and I are prepared to say we like Obama as well as we like Hillary.
really going out on a limb there, aren’t you? :~)
Isn’t that great? Obama and Hillary, the best and the brightest? ;0)
Didn’t Kucinich make noise about throwing support Obama’s way? This tid bit is lodge in my recent memory. Maybe I’m just in overload.
We the People have the most power - then the 3 equal branches of government.
The President and Congress and SCOTUS are subordinate to the people.
That was the name of it? I miss Al the Spook, too…
He told his supporters in Iowa to support Obama.
No.

“Here is a hopeful and positive piece on Edwards. This guy is well respected.
http://pundits.thehill.com/200.....ds/”
I agree with this guy, and have in fact made something of the same argument in some of my comments over the past week. The way I have been putting it, since the Iowa caucuses, is that while Edwards has clearly shown us who he is fighting against, he has not shown us what he is fighting for. In other words, like Obama in Iowa, he needs to show us his vision for America. What kind of America is he fighting for, and why should we want him as our leader in that fight?
I also like Budowsky’s point that now that the Democratic field has been narrowed to Four, he will get more air time in subsequent debates. He should use the time to show us what kind of America is he fighting for (the Obama Vision meme), and how he proposes to make it happen (the Clinton meme). He can’t just do those things in passing; he has to show us that he OWNS those memes.
Bob in HI
ah ahh! That means I’m still functioning while in overload. I needed that reality check.
Well you might as well know right now, that she (lahoma) and me, live on the edge.
Not incidentally… lahoma and i like your stuff.
Murder and war crimes do not have a statute of limitation, right?
Even if they did under American law, they do not at the The War Crimes Tribunal. Neither would the pardon of an American President have any standing before such a court.
Hard to swallow either of them - neither are progressive candidates. Edwards is the closest thing to progressive and he don’t like no weed. Between Obama and Hills, I think I like Obama better. Obama is a damn fine orator.
He did during the caucus in Iowa, because the voters have to make a second choice if their candidate doesn’t have enough people for a viable vote.
Hmmm… That cite doesn’t seem to contain the alterations from the MCA of ‘06…
