Yeah…but it’s not really personal attacks that I’ve seen. Just hot.

I think people are pissed off at the failure of Edwards to do better. Some are trying to rationalize it as a conspiracy theory. Others think that Obama was rooked (but to be honest Obama would have lost the hand-counted tallies as well). I looked at the variance between the hand-counts and Opti-Scan tallies (those are the old punch card or fill-in the circle ballots…not computerized). I couldn’t see any pattern of some sort of directed pattern. In fact, the variance went different ways in different sized communities. Obama got more net Opti-Scan ballots (vs. hand-tallied) in Urban areas, Edwards and Clinton in the small and medium towns. Edwards numbers were not very different. In other words, the numbers of those that voted by mail/hand votes were about the same as his opti-scan numbers. But Hillary had a lot more mail in votes than her optiscan walk up votes in the cities, and Obama had more mail in votes than walk-up votes in the more rural areas.

Either the foul conspirators stole votes from Obama in the rural areas only to give them back in the Urban areas, or this is due to some other phenomenon (differences between mail-in voters and walk-up voters; some of the hand-tallied votes being late arrivals when they ran out of ballots; or simply precincts that were in different areas that differentially supported candidates despite being “same-sized”).

Oh, and there was a ba lot of heat about whether we should simply give in to the Republican party because the Democrats are no different and there is no hope because we have a two party system and no one will ever support a third party. But no names were called…and no reservations were made for flights to Canada ;-)

I admire your efforts. :) I was struck by the size of your email list. I’ve got one almost exactly the same size consisting of most of the progressives who come out for any sort of activity in Central Oregon.

Good luck on the GOTV effort walking the precincts. That’s one of my least favorite things to do. When I tried it we had the most current lists of likely or leaning Dem voters so that we wouldn’t be getting into shouting bouts with the GOP faithful. The lists were astonishingly out-of-date only months after they were created. Lots of people moving and vanishing into thin air. These days, I prefer to go to our local library or downtown to leaflet. This has felt a lot more productive to me than scurrying around neighborhoods where half the folks are away from home, and the other half are divided between people who have barely heard about the candidate or the petition issue at hand and the other residual quarter who are truly clueless. That bunch really has me concerned.

MSM on Sibel Edmonds: I have found that a good way to gauge the penetration of a news story is to search for the item on Google News. This yields 35 hits using the term “Sibel Edmonds”.

As a comparable, “Posh Spice” who was just listed as the World’s Worst Dressed Woman got 1,381 hits.

As you can see, the MSM is certainly not interested in reality any longer. Which is why I’m mystified by all the endless and pointless chatter about Chris Matthews. Who, by the way, was the butt of a very long joke on The Daily Show this evening. Hopefully Crooks & LIars will pick this up soon.
