Golly, you think Michael Gerson and Maureen Dowd had to do some last minute revisions to their Hillary Clinton Obitutorials?
I am curious if anyone has the print edition of either of these, because they are classic styles of their individual forms of wretched hackery. Both are literally cheering over Clinton's freshly dug political grave with a couple of offhand mentions that "oh and she won in New Hampshire". They sure could be shortened to read like this, Dewey beats Truman Truman wins, that manipulative bastard!
Meanwhile, I can only imagine the regularity problems David Broder and the rest of the villagers are having this morning, with John McCain having his moment of triumph stolen from him and his "magic 3x5 cards" by Hillary Clinton (seriously, was McCain impersonating Admiral Stockdale last night?). Time to rub their lamps...or rub something...and attempt to summon Michael Bloomberg.

do magic 3×5 cards beat magic underwear?

Maybe Bloomberg and company can stay over for another day and draft a different announcement.
For some reason, the Village was quite happy/content with the anticipated Obama candidacy, leading many of us to wonder what they have one him. It’ll be interesting to read their take on the fact that Hill is still in the race.
Good Morning, Firepups!
It’s another unseasonably mild morning here in central Jersey (New Brunswick area, for those who are curious), with some rain on the way today.
I’ve got an exta big pot of coffee made, with some hot water for the tea drinkers, and I’ve picked up some bagels. Help yourselves.
Work for peace, every day.
Mornin’, gang -
Attaturk - started reading dowd….stomach went, “Barf!”….stopped reading.
Having kept to my resolve to stop watching the idjit talking heads, on-line indicates tweety got ripped last night. Can anyone provide a blow-by-blow (literally) account of how big an ass he made of himself? No linkys, plez….dial-up here.
Digby had a few choice things to say about Tweety Bird recently.
So I looked into the matter and wrote up what I thought I understood of his effect in the real world. Here’s my comment:
It’s hard to imagine that Chris Matthews actually has much of an effect among the general electorate. The most recent figures I can find indicate that he got an audience that averages under 400 K viewers daily. New Hampshire’s share of that, if proportionate to the country’s population would be 1,600 viewers, with a disporotianate bias toward male viewers that would mean between 400 and 800 women in New Hampshire might watch Chris Matthews on any given day. The overall voter turnout was a little over 500,000, so the female Matthews viewers who voted in New Hampshire were about one-tenth of 1% of the total vote in New Hampshire. IMHO, no matter how offensive Matthews is, I think we can put the Tweety Effect to rest.

1,720 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND..
Citizen Attaturk and the early Mornin’ Firepup Freedom Fighters:
Let’s remember that this nomination bidness is far from over, even though the corporatist powers have tried ta compress the process into as small a time frame as possible, the range of geography, demographics and local foibles make this year one of the best for the Democratic Party. My hope is that the stress of a prolonged contest will make Mrs. Clinton and Barak O’Lieberman expose themselves and make committments to change something other than a rhetorical excercise.
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION…FASCISM NEVER SLEEPS!!
Mike Gravel rates Democrat opponents
video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vH9SbwSQCk4
He has an interesting point of view, and not all that positive I’d say.
It’s not even about that right now is it Norske?
Morning Atta. Well despite all I tried corporate politics won in the end. HRC and BO took most of the votes. I guess it goes to show that big money will out and to hell with issues. Rhetoric and the almighty dollar win again.
It also seems to me that the illegal invasion of Iraq (and soon Iran) made not a whit of difference. hillary and the never mentioned by MSM ‘I love a war’ clinton and barrack and never mentioned by MSM ‘We need more money for defense contractors’ obama bought sufficient teevee time to persuade thousands of voters that being republican was no problem. Of course when one realizes that Independents in NH ARE, in the vast majority, republican lite it does begin to make sense.
If this trend continues we will be stuck in this bloody stupid invasion of Iraq for many a year to come and we will not have universal health care and we will not have strong unions and decent working conditions and we will not have free and fair elections and we will continue to be ridiculed by the rest of the world and we will continue to be ruled solely for and by the almighty dollar.
A sad day for the people indeed but I guess this country worships celebrity.
OT. Shithead in chief is in Israel can we convince them not to return him?
And yes Norske you are right, right and right again.
With her book “Into the Buzzsaw” investigative journalist Kristina Borjesson exposed the rotten heart of the mainstream media. This week, she continues her gallant efforts to get a the truth of the world we live in.
Here’s her very well written and cogent de-bunking of much of the fraudulent psyop called Osama Bin Laden. Well worth the time to read and consider, IMHO.
Michelle Malkin also ‘buried’ the Clintons in today’s NY Post (don’t bother reading it - not worth burning up those eye movement calories on it)-
http://www.nypost.com/seven/01.....841061.htm
Bushicle is never OT even when offshore. In fact, his lucky anyone is paying attention to him. Which is reason to worry about Mr. Petulance will do next.
Something that may have gone unnoticed yesterday. BushCo DOJ took a small licking for stacking the supposedly bipartisan Civil Rights Commission with Republicans decked out to look like Independents so it’s not 4-2. Won’t stand up in court.Anyone want a link?
Iam going to sparse on the ground these next days with a deadline hanging. Just wanted to say hi, teas on, Honey Bell oranges on the counter, and wishing I could share with anyone BlueBayish in the vicinity.
Oh yes. Jane did us proud on Young Turks via BraveNewFilms last nite. Great way to follow the elections. They’ll be back for FL.
Malkin is in the Post? I thought she was too highly moral to work for Murdoch any more.
Warning: This post contains strong language…
In attempting to get a handle on the blogosphere’s current obsession with Chris Matthews and his crassness, I followed along at Digby’s blog to see a response to the Tweety Bird Scandal that I think absolutely nails the issue and puts it into perspective. This impassioned plea is for people to understand who Hillary Clinton happens to be (hint: neocon and imperialist).
(Copy)
I also fucking love Rachel Maddow. She gets it. Hillary is every bit as emotionally damaged and cynicaly manipulative as any of the rest of the neo-cons. She has a lot of blood on her hands and hope of ending this war before it spirals completely out of control go right out the window if Hillary gets nominated.
I can’t fucking believe you would take any pleasure in this outcome. What. The. Fuck.
So showing up idiots like Matthews is more important than ending the Iraq Occupation. How sick do you have to be to have priorities so far out of whack?
I’ve been accused of hating women. I don’t. I hate women (and men) who are so angry and twisted and screwed up emotionally (and especially here, sexually) that they lash out randomly at entire groups of people for no goddamned reason.
(Text deleted)
I am just sick right now. But you think “this is glorious”. Well fuck you.
This war will go on for years. I don’t even want to think what Hillary is capable of as CINC. A lot more people are going to die. I think I’m supposed to go back in 2009. Don’t know that for certain, but that’s what I hear. I don’t know if I can do it again.
I just want to know if you’re really so blind as to not know what Hillary’s intentions are if she becomes the next POTUS. Do you really think she’s capable of admitting the error of her hawkish ways?
Or is showing up guys like Matthews just more important?

Thanks, Ray -
Don’t know about the impact tweety alone might have on voter decisions but can’t help but think the flood of blatant sexism from the entire media world has to have *some* effect, even if it can’t be quantified or “pollified”.
Adding your Buzzsaw recommendation to the reading list….”bunk” is by and far the nicest descriptor that could be applied to what the MSM turns out these days.
Good morning, pups. MoDo has the only column, but BoBo did some sort of “bloggy thingy” too. MoDo wants to know if Hillary can “cry her way to the White House.” She says there was a poignancy about the moment, seeing Hillary Clinton crack with exhaustion from decades of yearning to be the principal rather than the plus-one. Bobo doesn’t really have a column, but he slapped together some piece of tripe for I guess a “bloggy” piece in the Times that starts with one of the most amazing pieces of hooey I’ve seen in a long time. It’s #1 on his list. I’m no mathematician, but… His first point was:
Not my interpretation of the numbers, but there you go…

The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got cranberry pecan muffins today. Have a grand day.

Re:
I’m quite concerned right now at how I see people processing the matter of sex in relation to our solemn decision to elect our next national leader. As far as I’m concerned, I’m in total agreement with the soldier whose words I copied above. What everyone seems to be losing sight of is that we really, really, really need to vote Hillary Clinton up or down on the basis of her intended policies, which I believe can be inferred from her record. And that record is frightening to any sane individual. She’s a war monger, ferchrissakes. Why do people want to focus on the supposed hurt she’s suffering at the hands of a buffoon like Chris Matthews when it is our responsibility to decide if Hillary Clinton has the moral sense to have her finger on the nuclear trigger or has the ability at the drop of a hat to send our troops into battle on five separate continents where she seems to be able to find terrorists in the shadows who need rooting out.
What really needs rooting out is childishness on the part of the electorate. We have a nation that is in deep trouble. Wannabee imperialists have us mired down in two unwinnable wars and seeking more, the Treasury is insolvent in all but name, the infrastructure is going to hell and Hillary wants to attack the Iranian Revolutionary Guards? This is nuts.
Focus people. Michelle Malkin and Tweety Bird are not worthy of our attention.
oh darn it, I was sending you vibes of french toast waffles for this morning. I’ll have to work on my transmitter.
Independant white males in NH opted not to vote for HRC or BO. They gave thier vote to McCain, rather than vote for a “women or a man of color.” This is why HRC won by 2% points over Obama. Racism and sexism among white independant males in NH is real! Demographics, if half of the independant white males who voted for the MAc voted for Obama, would he have defeated HRC? Is the reality in NH. Not one person in the media has the testicles to point this out! Racism and sexism, even when identified in a political context is ignored. It no longer PC, even if it is real. Pretty sad.
I’ll polish up my receiver, and hopefully that will work!
Hi Crosstimbers,
You do understand that the text you copied was something I did not write? I can understand that fellow’s emotions. Hell, I don’t know what I’d be doing or saying if I were trapped as he is into another season of hell in that godforsaken desert surrounded by enemies. Too bad Canada isn’t an option in this war.

No, I didn’t. Thanks for telling me. My reaction was just, “jeez, let me get a little coffee first.”
Here’s a link to images of today’s frontpages from papers across the country, great morning to poke around over there.
You are quite correct. A lot of those white independents have recently moved from Mass and are “me first and fuck you” reaganites. A number of them have moved into our neighbourhood and are not a pleasant sight.
Boy, howdy, do I agree with you there! Look where choosing as prez the guy you’d most like to have a beer with has gotten us….exactly in the position you describe. “Childishness” is part of the problem but, more importantly, the dumbin’ down of the educational system is gonna land us in even worse shape than we are now. I was in education for 30 years and the decline in the quality of preparation of students coming into the university over that period of time was just plain scarier than hell.
Elliot,
I am looking and failing so far. Waaaaaaaaah. Sorry. I tried TPM and NYT and googling “civil rights commission” federal to no avail.
Maybe TalkLeft.com. Back when I check that out.
PS to me at 29. A number of them own dogs and they crap in my yard and run in my organic garden. Not nice people or dogs
1968: The year that changed the world
Tariq Ali is a fabulous writer and activist. He was at the forefront of anti-war efforts in Britain during the 1960s and hooked up with John Lennon, Yoko Ono and was well acquainted with Che Guevara. He’s a walking encyclopedia about the history of the New Left.
If you like elegant and compelling reads, I highly recommend his “Street-Fighting Years: An Autobiography of the Sixties“
His blog is here.

I used to live in central NJ too before I moved here.
But anyway, I love this place. That’s why I come here. That’s why I’m here now. That’s why I’ll be here tomorrow and in the future. Yesterday though, I was disappointed. The story of Hillary’s “tears” aroused great ire. (I know she didn’t cry, but I’m going to use “tears” as shorthand for her display of emotions, is all. I think that’s fair since many complained that men are allowed to cry, so things were pretty much framed in terms of tears.) Males are allowed to cry; the msm is making it a story because she’s a woman; it’s so unfair. Yet, this shoulda-been-a-non-story was the subject of at least 3 posts yesterday -Jane’s pithy; TW (I think) with impressive linkage; ansd Christy’s lawyerly verbose. Prertty big story here. A slow news day maybe. I think not. I did, however, think this was overkill and along with the posts it generated was overdone. But I’m not pickin’ on the people at FDL. I’m writing because as an Edwards supporter, I was disappointed at the negative reaction to his reamarks about Hillary’s “tears” from all quarters. He was criticized and, in some cases, trashed. Many progessives thought less of him. This was unjustified.
Many jumped on the “it’s OK to cry” and “we’d be better off if more people cried” bandwagon. But is this really true? Are tears, or “tears” always appropriate? I think not. Last night’s results lead me to reasonably wonder: At the time of her “tears”, didn’t Hillary’s polling show that, at the very least, the race would be close? If so, why the tears? Didn’t she know that in a short time she’d get to pinch Tweety’s cheek so hard it would permanently turn redder than the former Confederacy?
That she could say “Fuck you, Tweety.” Shouldn’t she have been relishing the thought of showing the punits how wrong they were? Instead, we got “tears.” Why? If she knew, at that time, it was going to a close race and she might win, were “tears” appropriate? Hmmm. Under those circumstances I think the question has to be asked: Were they bogus? In light of the result last night, it’s a legitimate question.
Myself, I answer that question in the negative. Maybe that’s because I want to think that the person I’ll vote for if she gets the nomination is not so craven, shallow and shitty. I know that, in fact, she is. Nevertheless, I still think the “tears” were genuine. But why, if she knew she’d be “Comeback Kid II” and/or that IA & NH award a miniscule number of delegates and she’s in pretty good shape to pick up alot on Super Tuesday? She surely knew that.
I believe that,at least in part, it can be chalked up to the rigors of the campaign trail. What candidates have to go through is nuts. To that extent, though, Edwards’s remarks were absolutely legitimate. He’s out there ferezing his ass off for 36 hours straight and no media or money to show for it and he’s supposed to feel sorry for a candidate who has
a ton more money and is in every single media story? Bullshit. Why should he? Surely no one suggests because she’s a woman, I know that from the posts and remarks yesterday. Edwards got criticized - in many cases by supporters - but if Hillary’s “tears” were not contrived and can be attributed in some degree to the difficulty of the campaign, his message was dead on - Suck it up. Do any of the people who were critical of Edwards’s remarks really believe he would have given a different answer were it a male candidate in the same situation. I have no doubt he’d have said the same thing. So, at least as far as Edwards goes, lay off the “double standard” stuff.
I said repeatedly yesterday, even when I tought Hillary would lose, that the race was not over. This morning it’s definitely not over. Hllary, you and your people and lotsa progressives may have pounced on Edwards’s remarks to your advantage. Hillary, you’ve got alot of work to do. Hillary, you’d be wise to listen to Edwards. Suck it up.
How’s that for lawyerly verbosity?
Hi Waccamaw,
Re:
And the scariest thing of all is that this dimming down of the public was planned by the elite and willfully executed in order to create a more docile general public. This is why I posted the article about Tariq Ali immmediately above. The youth of America in 1968 were in full rebellion against another immoral, illegal and totally venal war for profit and plunder.
Then, we went into the streets and rioted. Today, we type our anguish to anonymous others across the cybersphere and accomplish nothing. It’s time to figure out a better plan.
Good morning Attaturk and firepups.
Watched this. It’s a little over 7 minutes long. I find it hard to argue with much that Gravel says. Pretty depressing, really, but worth the time.
Hillary’s supporters should keep quiet about Matthews. He’s you guys’ ace in the hole. Every time he bashes Clinton, you get to complain about her “victimization” by the MSM.
He’s like Pavlov ringing the bell. He rang it yesterday, and you guys are salivating. No issues. No facts about her track record; nothing about her electability in the general…just…saliva.
Advice.
I have been asked where I got my news from someone abroad who just got totally turned off by lastnite’s coverage. where do I “get our news” as opposed to talk about it, which is here.
I am putting together my list of recs. Meanwhile, something I need your help on.
What are you suggestions for blog news sources for a young person just entering the progressive blogosphere?
Yay!
Thank you!
Your efforts are to be commended. So I commend them. It’s sad to see tbe way this is unfolding. But, unfortunately, pretty predictable. Someday, maybe nopt in my lifetime, sad to say, we’ll get an Edwards who’s an Obama. I mean by that someone commited to all those things - peace, universal health care, strong unions, etc. - like Edwards, but who moves and inspires like Obama.
Good Morning Everyone!
Quite a win last night. I couldn’t be happier. As we move forward perhaps some more people will be drawn into the process because we have a race developing. The turnout has been great, and if the race keeps developing, hopefully it will drive more people to vote because they will feel their vote matters.
Even the “so called stupid” Americans who might not be aware as some think they are, and pontificate a narrow view that unless everyone agrees with them, or sees it they way the way they see it, they are less worthy to have an opinion.
Good morning pups!
The biggest loser in NH? The media. The Russerts, Matthews, Courics et al need to be exposed as the military industrial media complex hacks that they are. Once they lose their ill deserved credibility the sooner the media can begin to clean house.
Bilbo@38, All you need to hear of that, is Gravel saying that funding universal healthcare will cripple business.
Oh. It’s also truncated my interest, that he says Edwards, Obama, and Clinton are the equivalent of Britney Spears.
Excuse me for not watching the whole thing. :o)
An Obama/Edwards ticket? What do you think and is it possible?
As for HRC, Rachel Sklair of HuffPost was pretty convincing about why one should be bothered by her last nite on the video streaming on young turks at
http://bravenewfilms.org/ where I watched listened, thereby missing all the Tweety twiting.
helps not to have to fight temptations to throw things at tv. I used to but it scares SignifOther when I do. even if its a soft bunny slipper from the kids’ room.
signing off. real work calls.
Speaking for myself, as someone who’s really interested in Edwards’ candidacy and who didn’t post yesterday, I was disappointed that Edwards handled it the way he did.
One of the canards the press has been using during this race is that Edwards’ (and his wife’s) being up front with their family sorrows and their passion for what they’re doing is somehow distasteful and a sign that he’s not presidential.
JMO, he could have done himself a great deal of service by using one of the first times that cameras have been pointed at him during this race to point that out in the context of telling them to back off Hillary. He could have also used it to point out substantial reasons to vote for him instead. Instead he took a shot, and it wasn’t really a fair shot. There are plenty of fair shots available.
Enabling the narrative does no Democrat good, and I expected better of him.
The first person I’d ask for advice on that subject would be SnarKassandra. Cassie’s tremendously sharp, and she has her own blog: Cassie’s blog.
MillineryMan@43, you’re talking as if last night, pore little underdog Hillary pulled off a huge upset against the big, bad, “machine” candidates, Obama and Edwards.
It’s nonsense. New Hampshire was a safe state for her, and she barely won it.
We already HAD the race. Obama and Edwards gave it to us when they beat her in Iowa.
I will still vote for whoever Democrats nominate. Personally, I’m glad that last night forestalled an avalanch which would have decided the nomination in the first real primary. Actually, I was proud of all three candidates last night and believed that they sincerely want to stop and reverse the decline that the country has undergone in the last three years. I really think the vicous name calling regarding any of them only helps the Republicans.
Thanks. you have a good day too.
Edwards? Machine? surely you jest
Julia@48; Let’s see if I’ve got this right:
Edwards having Elizabeth on the stage with him to talk about her cancer, and the loss of their son, is cheap coin, but Hillary snuffling her way to 3 percentage-point win in a state that a month ago, was supposed to be safe for her, is evidence of her character and strength?
Interesting.
I agree, particularly about derailing the juggernaut. (Do juggernauts travel on rails…?)
Correction: I have no idea why I typed “three years.” I think the country has gone straight down for the last SEVEN years.
Nomolos; I WAS jesting. The idea that Hillary “upset” the two frontrunners, in a state in which, until fairly recently, she enjoyed a 22 point bulge, is just campaign bullshit.
Ha ha. The media got the middle finger from the women of New Hampshire.
Disagree ray about those two not being worthy of our attention. I agree they aren’t worthy of anything. But we better pay attention to the bullshit and outright lies and respond to them pronto. You probbaly didn’t mean to suggest otherwise. I force myself to watch FOX and read malkin pretty often. Malklin can be good for a quick laugh. But she’s tapped into something. Don’t know how significant that “something’ is, but it’s something. And FOX can be good. Like when that guy in New orleans before Katrina hit told Shep Smith on live TV: “None of your fuckin’ business.”
Ray -
It’s time to figure out a better plan.
Well, you won’t find any place more receptive to suggestions than the Lake. *g*
tanbark @ 39 -
I think you’re being a bit harsh wrt the tweety reaction. He is only a symptom of the cr*p coming out of the MSM and as Bluetoe2 said:
The biggest loser in NH? The media. The Russerts, Matthews, Courics et al need to be exposed as the military industrial media complex hacks that they are. Once they lose their ill deserved credibility the sooner the media can begin to clean house.
Re:
Thank God you see through this manipulative bitch. When I read John Edwards’ totally reasonable response to Hillary’s most likely feigned or possibly real emotional moment I thought that Edwards was to be lauded for keeping things in perspective. The utter hostility among some sectors to Edwards’ rational thought came across to me as irrational, emotionally immature and screechy. For Christ sakes, we’re trying to select the person who can blow this whole goddamn planet up and people are concern about how empathetic and comforting opponents should be to a craven and manipulative professional politician? My mind reels at the superficiality of it all.
Let’s just all get on the same page here people. Hillary Clinton is a 35 year veteran of deceit, chicanery and manipulation in her careers as a lawyer, First Lady and Senator. She’s as thick-skinned as they get. She’s also a dangerous neocon. And furthermore, why in the world would she evoke such a round of empathy from so many when what she seems to have gotten so teary-eyed over was the prospect that she wasn’t going to be elected the homecoming queen? At least that’s the level of selfishness I saw being expressed in that brief show of emotion. Her words, to paraphrase her was that she was getting emotional over her fear that she might not be able to lead us. Hell, I’m not crying over the fact that I can’t lead Hillary. It’s really past time for some adult supervision in America.
I do. I wanna link, at your lesiure. thanks in advance.
No, and I’m not sure how you got that from what I said.
The press has portrayed having Elizabeth on the stage with him to talk about her cancer, and the loss of their son, as cheap coin. He’s being treated as not a serious candidate worthy of coverage, and one of the reasons is that our punditry have decided he’s not manned up enough to be taken seriously because they’ve decided he’s inauthentic.
The same shit was pulled on Hillary that’s been being pulled on Edwards - who, again, I like a lot - and he responded to the ginned-up handfluttering of the press as if they had a point.
why is canada not an option, eh?
Morning everyone. Can anyone answer this for me? I can understand why the polling done before the voting could be wrong. But was the EXIT polling wrong as well? Because that would make me distrust the machines.
Sorry I am still pissed off about the vote for “same as usual” last night and am not thinking too clearly
So far in the writer’s strike the only guests Stewart and Colbert can get are right-wingers willing to cross a picket line.
…
Oh, and if I can blogwhore myself in my own post…
Hugh Hewitt is still masturbating over Mitt
Not as disturbing as it sounds (no pictures)
Madeline Albright???!!! But i’m tryin’ to wake up here. A Hill Shill.
Lay off the dogs.
Only if they lay off my organic garden… They are required to be on leashes in this city and their bloody owners should be too.
I agree about the owners but the dogs can’t read the ordinance cuz they are, well, dogs.
Thanks,
It is unbelievable this reality is ignored! I refer the Massholes who moved north, over the border as “Yuppy Scum.” They say one thing and do another because it is all about, “me myself and I.” I now these people I work with these people, they are selfish and self serving, it is only “their” bottom line that matters….
Haven’t read the reaction to this yet. i assume you’ll get trashed like yesterday. And, like yesterday, I agree with you.
Okay, I’m watching my tape of last night’s Daily Show, Stewart blithely and hilariously ripped David Frum and the GOP a new one.
It was fabulous.
Now settle the goddamned strike Producers.
Remember the times Christy has had to call time out because it was getting so nasty and negative here?
Agree. But then, most of here have been saying they were losers for some time now. We’ve just been proven correct for the whole fucking world to see.
Where’s Mother when ya need her? *g*
What’s happenin’ in your world these days?
Ha, that’s the way we feel about the students here in Athens!
Nuttin, been in a flame war with some cat I never heard of before here on the lake.
How bout choo?
Here’s BlueStateRedHead’s link to the article mentioned
http://www.tpmmuckraker.com/archives/005036.php
Fair enough. I was disappointed in Edwards, too, but he said it so…… His initial reaction was that he didn’t know about it. Great setup or substitute for no comment which I think would have been best. Taking a shot is risky business as he/we found out. he could have defended her you are correct but he was in “marginalize Hillary” mode. You kn ow, “only me and BO are for change. “Marginalize Hillary.” Looks pretty stupid today. But the guy had to have some strategy.
IF the machines were accurate (and that’s a big IF) then I think Hillary was helped most by those “Iron my shirt” guys. Haven’t seen such an overtly sexist remark in a long time. That, more than anything, made me sympathize with Hillary.
I can’t see that ticket. i think he’ll go for an outside Washington person. Bill Richardson??? I have no idea, really. But I don’t think it’ll be Edwards. Don’t know if Edwards wants it but I don’t think BO wants him. Edwards is probably only gonna get media attention if they talk about his chances for being the VP nominee. Sad.
Would anyone like to take a little peek into the repubs ammo dump, in case we’re stupid enough to nominate Clinton? Of course you would! Everyone on here is a cold-eyed realist when it come to choosing the candidate who has the best chance to deliver a big win in November, right?
RIGHT???!!!
Here’s SuitablyFlip, a business blog which actually seems to be fairly even-handed, in that he bring up Abramoff, to compare with Norman Hsu, who raised about a mil for Hillary, using bogus contributors and “bundling” technique.
Clinton had initially agreed to return only $23,000 of it, but the story was beginning to get traction, despite repubs laying off it, in the hope that they could save it until the general, in case Clinton got the dems nomination.
The date of Shu’s trial will, itself, be a contest, since if Hillary is nominated, the GOP will want it to be happening in the middle of the elections, and Clinton, already guaranteed of a VERY close fight if we decide to committ ritual political seppuku, and nominate her, will be desperately trying to put it off until after the vote. But I seem to recall that the judiciary is much influenced by bushCo, and I expect that if we nominate her, they’ll hang this around her neck with a lot more effect than we got from laying Abramoff on them.

Just sayin…:o)
What’d I miss? Name of flamer?
Been in process of shifting houses for the winter therefore not keeping up with all threads at the Lake. Been good about resolution to keep away from the talking heads but broke it this morning just to see what scar would say. He’s spent a good part of the time whining, “but……but…….but…the Clinton campaign *told* us she was gonna bomb.” Guess he’s just too plain stoopid to wonder if they might have been puttin’ him on.
Oh, but I think he’s correct, tanbark. Universal healthcare needs to be single payer. That’s the only way it will work. And the single payer must be the central government, not business. So, Gravel’s correct when he says that requiring business to pay for health care insurance will cripple it. In fact, that’s already happening to the auto makers and others.
Hi BSRH,
Re:
I have over 100 blogs bookmarked now, mostly on politics and war, but also some econ, some environmental stuff and a little fun stuff to boot. So please let me know if your friend has any specific areas of interest. Otherwise, here’s several news digest sources that I consider to be among the best I’ve run across. There’s no hierarchy of excellence here. Your friend should sample the world widely and make his/her own choices. :)

I agree basically 100%.. That doesn’t happen all that much, does it? But I’ll still probably feel compelled to vote for her if she’s the nominee. Bet you don’t agree with me there.
We’ll be leaving the flame behind and hope for a better day. You have 2 houses us there, sweet!
It sucks. Coulter called her a “faggot” a long time ago and the MSM has been running with that line - using different words, of course - ever since. They’re taking cues from Ann Coulter for goodness sakes.
Could the moderator make a suggestion on the maximum number of URLs to be used in a post without requiring your intervention? Thanks for any reply. :)
you mean entitlements!!!
I meant called HIM a “faggot.”
Julia@53; you damn Edwards with faint praise. He did no such thing. He didn’t even mention her by name, only pointed out that it’s tough to be commander-in-chief, etc. The idea that his comments were sexist is shreiking double-standard paranoia. If he had said those relative to the same situation, and it was a man, instead of Clinton, no one would have given it a second thought.
But because Queen Hillary is supposed to have the democratic nomination for president as her inheritance bandaid for the fact that conservatives hate her and will turn out like lemmings to vote against her in the general, her supporters are, more or less successfully, portraying Edwards
as a Visigoth with a horned helmet, beating up on a small child.
You guys can get away with this to some extent now, but if you’re successful at getting enough democrats to ignore her support for bushCo, and if can get them to forget the huge negatives that she will bring to the general, you’re going to be shocked at how little interested the GOP is, in handling her with kid gloves.
If the campaign in New Hampshire, which is as NOTHING to what she’ll have to deal with if she’s nominated, is enough to elicit that kind of snuffling from her, just think about how she’s going to deal with what the republicans throw at her.
You make some excellent points. Thank you.
But Bilbo, the MONEY for it will have to come from a tax increase (Don’t forget that $3 billion a week “health care” plan that bush has created for Iraq. :o) ) and that tax increase is going to have to come, and SHOULD come, from the fatcats whom george bush has been letting skate/
THAT part of it was accurate, but the part about them being “crippled” by it was bullshit; it just means that they won’t be able to afford a new Hatteras 52 every year, and will have to make do with last year’s model for a bit longer. :o)

“The common denominator is expanding and entrenching the role of the insurance giants who are largely responsible for the current morass by transforming our nation’s health from a system that delivers care to one that has become a funnel for higher profits, usually made by denying care. It’s time to stop expecting the insurers and the market will solve a crisis that continues to financially benefit them. Only one solution guarantees healthcare for everyone, ends insurance industry interference with care, and actually does share responsibility with fair share costs on employers, government, and individuals alike. It’s the approach of a form of expanded Medicare for All type system taken by every other industrialized nation, represented in HR 676 in Congress or SB 840 in California.”
Great post here! Comments from FDLers on it would be nice. The CNA Executive Director of California has “nailed it.”
sigh.
I’m sorry yesterday was so hard for you.
Another reason to wonder if it was contrived. Again, I don’t think so. But she’s had a ton of shit thrown at her before. Some tweaks from Edwards and Obama shouldn’t have elicited much reaction. Just sayin’ almost everybody -except you me and Edwards - jumped to her defense yesterday and today there is a legitimate question as to the authenticity of the whole display. And today nobody seems to want to talk about the incident. Coincidence? Again, just so people don’t waste time and space, I personally think it was for real, but whether it was or not is a legitimate question - and one we really shouldn’t have to ask.
I’m sorry. Almost everybosy except you, me, Edwards and tanbark. Sorry to have left tanbark out. My bad.

Julia, Thank you for your insightful take on this matter.
Admittedly, I have come around to hoping for HRC to win the democratic nomination, but will happily vote for whoever does win, feeling that any of them is so far superior to anyone that the GOP side will eventually opt for.
I believe that a long an extended fight on our side is good for two reasons: (1) Of course, we get a better understanding of what each candidate stands for (and I take issue with the characterization of HRC by many posters here) and (2) A long shot but, an extended struggle COULD lead to a stalemated convention and (hope against hope) a possible DRAFT GORE movemtent. Ok, it’s a long shot, but…

What was done in Mass is also done in California?

Morning everyone.
On the Mike Gravel piece, I disagree with it fundamentally. First I think there are sizable differences between both Edwards/Obama and Hillary on the war. Second when he says all the Rethug candidates are crazy but the Democrats will be no better: I strongly disagree. Again there is the war, but also issues of changing the tax codes to take the weight off the middle class. And, they will have very different appointees to the supreme court. And, unlikely to be any where near as corrupt with respect to K-street.
On Hillary’s victory. Good on Rachel Maddow for rubbing Tweeties face into sexism. And I know several women who sent around the Gloria Steinem op ed to people on their lists. And lots of men who looked at Hill’s “moment” and said in contrast to the MSM she actually looked human here. The ties they made with Muskie were clearly over the top. In short not only was MSM shown for what they are on this, but I think it also showed the danger for both the Rethugs and the Dems and the array of MSM people (and think Dowd’s ludicrous piece today) with pushing the “sex” card. It will back fire, just as the race card will.
I agree. That nails it. Nice find.
Hillary must have alot of money if she can change signs so often.
“Experience”

Also, fwiw, on the first day of the business section of the NYT is a column lamenting McCain’s success because unlike Romney and Guillani, McCain does not believe in keeping taxes low for the elite of the elite. In short, there is going to be alot of blood ahead in the Repub waters, especially if Huckabee’s numbers nationally remain what they are today (tied for #1)
Americans need to know the facts. The media is silent. The print press runs full page ads for these tax exempt not for profit health organizatiion seeking enrollees and is compromised. In Mass a large number of “Tax exempt healthcare entities” lobbied the legislature for mandated healthcare!!! Now they use the tax code to penalize persons who at $61,000, is mandated. Who is getting *ucked here!!!! Not the legislator, whose healthcare is paid foe by tax payers or the “tax exempt” health services, who now have the force of law to keep them in business!
Sounds just like a King and his corporate cohorts and colonial crime!!!
BL,
Unlike you, I strongly suspect the “Iron-y” boy incident was staged. Here’ my train of thought on the matter.
How come the incredible writers on this site have not taken the time to delve into this crap shoved down the throats of the governed by our politcal leader who are on the corporate take!
MS,
You express support for Hillary, who happens to be a war monger, from all indications. And then you suggest a “deux ex machina” with the declared anti-Iraq War Al Gore riding onto the stage to save us all. What’s up with that? I kinda feel my schizophrenia coming on…
Juia@99; thank you for the sympathy.
It was hard for me. I had hoped to see one more stake driven into the heart of the candidacy of the only politician in america who can keep the white house in republican hands and return control of congress to them.
Who, co-incidentally, just happens to have been a staunch enabler and supporter of the worst presidential foreign-policy decision in our history.
Who, co-incidentally, has been part and parcel of the beltway process which made that decision possible, and who has not shown one iota of political courage in denouncing it, nor has she taken a single political risk on the behalf of the progressives who WERE her natural constituency.
Yes, Julia, it was hard on me, to watch so many “progressives” voice support for her and speak of her as if she were a small child being whipped within an inch of her life in New Hampshire, by the big, bad, mainstream media, so as to extend the chance that she can make it through the primaries and capture the democratic flag and then emerge into the happytimes of the “fair and balanced” treatment she will receive at the hands of the gentle, tender-hearted, republicans.
You have no idea. Really.
STATE MANDATED HEALTH INSURANCE, CONSTITUTIONAL?
Are there any “Lawyers” with expertise who would comment on the Constitutionality of States to “Mandate” the taxpayer purchase Health Insurance? In Massacusetts Tax Exempt oraganizations lobbied via tax exempt Political Action Committees, Beacon Hill and Mitt to pass a law that now uses the tax code to penalize taxpayers who do not comply with this law, while a large number of the corporations in the process are 501 c 3’s. A religious oranization is precluded from partaking in polical matters, or risk losing tax exempt status. However corporations with the identical tax exempt status in the health service industry buddy up to state legislatures and utilize PAC, tax exempt also, to aide in crafting law that now mandates that health insurance must be obtained, while many entities in the process making the law benefit finacially from the mandate? Do IRS Rule of Inurement apply in this instance to the corporations who now collect the health insurance premiums??? The links below are relevant to this issue.
http://www.guaranteedhealthcar.....elievable.
“Yesterday most of California’s major insurance corporations (Blue Shield, Kaiser, Cigna, etc. etc.) testified in support of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s healthcare reform bill…and the donations they have given to Assemblymembers was money well-spent, as the bill passed and was sent to the Senate.”
http://www.guaranteedhealthcar.....hcare-scam
“So much for the overblown rhetoric about shared responsibility in healthcare reform. Apparently the Massachusetts officials who enacted the law that has been hyped from coast to coast as the model for other state and national plans believe that only low and middle income individuals and families should carry the financial burden for resolving the healthcare crisis.”
Only one solution guarantees healthcare for everyone, ends insurance industry interference with care, and actually does share responsibility with fair share costs on employers, government, and individuals alike.”
The appearance of impropriety?? Any takers… or will silence and censorship trump critical thinking skills, and fairness.
Not that young. Although Cassie’s blog is great for the real young ‘uns.
I meant mid 20s young.
Re:
Exactly. What the heck was up with that? Sheesh. I was mortified at how few people could understand that the New Hampshire vote as all votes should be about the policies that we seek through our representatives so we can rule ourselves, and not about the personalities who hope to lord it over us.

Ray: Clinton’s campaign slogan:
“Winning through victimhood!”
If she can get the nomination, the republicans will happily supply the victimhood, but not the win.
JJ,
Re:
I wished I were your knight in shining armor on this one. Of course what Schwarzenegger proposes reeks of corruption and corporate welfare. But alas, I’m not in California, I’m not a lawyer and I’m fighting a losing battle of my own with a local hospital in Oregon.
One of my absolute heroes is the late socialist Premier of Saskatchewan, Tommie Douglas. Today he’s recognized as the most beloved Canadian in history. In the 1960s he fought an uphill battle against free-market doctors and various right wing ideologues to introduce North America’s first Medicare system. He’s a national treasure to Canadians, and all too unknown to those of us in the United States of Amnesia.
Re:
“Winning through victimhood!”
So, yeah, there you go. The meek shall inherit the earth.

I kinda got a feeling that Hillary’s true campaign zeitgeist however is:
“You need me more than I need you.”
The major ”news” organizations shared MoDo’s and Tweety’s prejudices and predicament.
Abc’s Charlie Gibson and his elf-like commentator George somebody [sic] were again caught off-guard when the facts refused to align with their program. Their recovery amounted to, ”She won (!?), but it was such a surprise, no one’s here to help her celebrate except the busboys; maybe someone will show up later.” And this gem, ”Hillary benefited from the sympathy vote,” elicited because the boys beat her up on the playground a few days earlier.
The coverage is so pathetic, it would, well, make a grown man cry.
