The last time I checked, Pelosi carried her district with about 80% of the vote. I think Pelosi and Reid govern by consensus and presumably are doing the bidding of their caucuses. What should they do, hold a gun to the heads of the Blue Dogs? Pelosi and Reid over-promised when Dems “took over”. They believed, and so did I, that a few Rethugs would see that it was in their interest to end the war at least. Rethugs did not do that so Blue Dogs became more frightened and “prevailed”. I agree that it’s a mess, but I am far from clever enough to see a way out.

Commodities (or “Futures” contracts if you will) is the way to do it. But your comment “Gold is confusing and the sellers seem shady” is the nice way to describe what that market is.

The wikipedia has no entry under “the hamilton project,” but their entry under Robert Rubin mentions:

Rubin has written a memoir, In an Uncertain World: Tough Choices from Wall Street to Washington (ISBN 0-375-50585-7), co-written by Jacob Weisberg. It was a New York Times bestseller as well as one of Business Week’s ten best business books of 2003.

He is currently engaged actively as a founder of The Hamilton Project, an economic policy think tank, which produces research and proposals on how to create a growing economy that benefits all Americans. In October 2003, he was named Vice Chairman of the Council on Foreign Relations and in June 2007, he was named Co-Chairman. He serves on the Board of Trustees of Mount Sinai-NYU Health. Super delegates are -at this time- moving toward Obama. And -tend- to move as the people and fortunes change (so they can get favors…nice eh?)

On Jackson - there is a PBS special out now, take a look. He was the devil to all but white males. But he did fight for them against the banks, the birth of Corps. He brought fourth the battle that perhaps (I think) Edwards is talking about. To make a fair market. Also look up some stuff on robber barons and see more about the Fed and places like JP M, etc were the ones to give the loans (or no one else) and the ones to rate the investments… kinda like Enron deal. Anyway on Jackson - he thought that on occasion capitalism had to be rescued from capitalists.
